Essay about Work-Life Conflicts
5.1. Conclusion In conclusion the literature suggests that working long hours is perceived to impact
negatively on various aspects of work and home life. Compressed workweeks (one Work Life
Balance practice) tend to be associated with positive effects such as increases in job satisfaction and
performance. Those who did not feel in control of their working lives were much more likely to
report a sense of powerlessness in their organisation; much less likely to feel loyal to their
organisation or that their organisation was loyal to them. They were also significantly less likely to
recommend their organisation as a place to work; to want to leave their organisation; to feel that
they were being exploited by their organisation and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could also further investigate the acute effects of long hours (for example after a long day) and the
cumulative effects (for example, after weekly or monthly long hours). Good quality studies that look
at the effects of reducing working hours would shed more light on the impact of long working hours
on health and safety. Data from other countries, where a working week of 35 hours has been
adopted, can help to make implementation plan for same in Pakistan. Work–life balance programs,
Flexible working hours in the U.S. and EU are known everywhere in the world which can be
adopted by the organizations for its employees. The following lists some of the more common
work–life benefits: o Flex–time o Telecommuting o Child care o Elder care o Leave (e.g. paternity,
etc.) o Job–sharing o Employee Assistance Programs o In–house store/services o Gym subsidies o

Identification Of Ethical Dilemma Of Global Environment :...
1) Identification of Ethical Dilemma in Global Environment: The quality of life is one of many
ethical dilemmas seen globally. The quality of life can be described as "the degree to which a person
enjoys the important possibilities of his/her life. Possibilities result from the opportunities and
limitations each person has in his/her life and reflect the interaction of personal and environmental
factors. Enjoyment has two components: the experience of satisfaction and the possession or
achievement of some characteristic (The Global Development Researcher Center)." A person cannot
experience these things if he/she is overworked. The United States is at the bottom of the chart for
quality of life because of over–worked employees with little ... Show more content on

"Work should ennoble, not kill, the human spirit. Promoting workers' well–being isn't just ethical; it
makes economic sense. Fostering positive inner lives sometimes requires leaders to better articulate
meaning in the work for everyone across the organization (Teresa Amabile, 2011)." Setting a
workweek limit is part of promoting workers' well–being, therefore, I do not think that the French
parliament should have eliminated the 35– hour workweek limit. A better option would be to have
changed the limit to 40–hours per workweek, along with other implications. I believe that the limit
served as a reminder to allow each person time for rest and enjoyment of life. As the Ethical
Dilemma article states, the 35–hour maximum puts the decision of how much to work in the
employee's hands. This may be so, but I believe it to be fair for the employee to decide how much
he/she works as long as the employee meets the minimum amount of work hours required and does
not exceed the workweek hour limit. A recent study found that "of 1,200 American adults, 18
percent worked 60 hours or more every week, with another 21 percent claiming to work between 50
and 59 hours. Still another 11 percent estimated between 41 and 49 hours per week, leaving a total
of 50 percent of American adults working more than 40 hours every week (DeMers, 2015)." DeMers
goes on to explain that this is sometimes the choice of the employee, but these harsh work week
hours are usually mandated by the upper

The Great Depression France
The Start to the French Depression: Another country that suffered just as much as the United
Kingdom had was France. Causes of their downward spiral were due to an underdeveloped
economy. France's industry was far inferior to Great Britain's, particularly in farming. Tourism was
also a big part of France's economy, and during this time, many individuals simply did not have the
money to travel around the world. France, like the United Kingdom, also suffered to recover from
World War I. While not as bad, France relied heavily on German reparations, to pay for
reconstruction. Once reparations had ceased, the Depression in France took place. Starting in 1931,
France did not recover from the Depression until the remainder of the decade. ... Show more content

The broad overview shows rapid growth in the 1920s,a sharp decline from 1930 to 1932,then a mild
decline from 1932 to 1936,and slow recovery toward the eve of World War II. Figure 2:
Unemployment grew PIB: This Graph shows how the GDP (gross domestic product) in France
declines in the year of 1932 which is when the depression had impact on the country. It slowly
recovers in the year of 1933 but experiences a moderate fall in the 2 to 3 next years due to industrial
and political issues. Government act: In May 1936,a coalition of Socialists and Communists won the
elections, and the Socialist leader L´eon Blum became Pr´esident du Conseil in June. The new labor
market regulations imposed by the Front Populaire provoked a large increase in the cost of labor.
First, the government imposed collective bargaining on wage contracts between employers and trade
unions. Second, the workweek was reduced from 48 to 40 hours, keeping the weekly or monthly
wage constant. The rigid and sudden reduction of the work week to 40 hours in 1936 also seems to
have caused bottlenecks in many industries, which blocked the beginning of recovery. Third, workers
were granted two weeks of paid holidays, again keeping the weekly or monthly wage constant.
Fourth, the civil servant wage cut was suspended. At the same time,a nationwide strike movement
led to the Accords de Matignon, where wages were increased on average by 12%. It seems that these

"Based on what Myung Soo Cha, Yeungnam University said about South Korea Economy; South
Korea's economic transformation from poverty to one of Asia's biggest economies remains one of
the enduring stories of the 20th century, dubbed the 'Miracle on the Hanggang River.' An isolated
nation of farmers now leads the world in Internet access, is a global innovator in consumer
electronics, and is now home to some of the biggest automotive, electronic, and shipbuilding
companies. Per capita GNP, only $100 in 1963, exceeded $16,000 in 2005." Economic history:
Wrecked in spirit, and wounded economically by the Japanese occupation, World War II, and the
Korean War of the 1950s, South Korea literally rose from the ashes. Subsisting initially on aid from
the U.S, the South Korean government substantially encouraged manufacturing, leading to

Should The Minimum Wage Be Paid?
Many case in USA suffering from the very low hourly payment according to Talk poverty: As wages
go down, the percentage of workers relying on public assistance gets higher: 60 percent of workers
earning less than $7.42–only slightly higher than the $7.25 federal minimum wage–receive some
form of means–tested public assistance. Overall, 70 percent of the benefits in programs meant to aid
non–elderly low–income households–programs like food stamps, Medicaid, and the Earned Income
Tax Credits–go to working families.and it help some people get out of the food stamp Because the
low minim wage many low income worker live with their children under a poverty. The first reason
for raise the minim wage because it will help the government to save million dollars. As talk poverty
state that a new report from the Economic Policy Institute indicates that raising the federal minimum
wage to $12 by 2020 would lift wages for more than 35 million workers nationwide and generate
about $17 billion annually in savings to government assistance programs. By this big saving the
government improve the economy by using this money in different investment field, such as
education instution, offer a good insurance plan for the middle –class.
Addition reason, for raising the minim wage will eliminate the income inequities. According to
Waltman, There are two secondary goals of minimum wage policy as well. The first of these is to

Job Performance As A Software Developer Myself
As a software developer myself, I found the story of SAS interesting, even more so now that I have
recently been placed in a management position at work. While looking at the factors that have the
strongest influence over work behaviours and looking at how I could apply those factors to my
team, I found the following with regards to SAS: Job Performance Job performance refers to how
successfully and employee meets the specifications set out in the job description 1 . Factors within
the category of job performance that have an influence on job performance are "General mental
abilities", "organizational justice and interpersonal relations", "stress", "positive work attitudes", and
"personality". 1 In order to delve into these factors more deeply within the management framework
and strategies that SAS used, I explored their website and found an array of content outlining the
kind of work they do, the kind of environment they create for their employees, and many other
details designed to attract candidates with strong "general mental abilities", and encourage them that
they will be in an environment with reduced stress. The following excerpt is taken from their careers

Sweatshops Research Paper
Nowaday, the fashion develops very fast and more and more fashion industry have been established
especially the sweatshops for the unethical fashion industry. Some people think the sweatshops
should not establish because it cause the problems for the workers but some of people go against
and show the advantages of the sweatshops opening. In my viewpoint, the sweatshops can not be
closed down but they can be improved by the consumers. Therefore, the essay will be focus on the
determine of sweatshops, the problems for the workers if establishing the sweatshops and the
advantages of opening the sweatshops.
The sweatshops for the fashion industry
"Sweatshops" which is written by Gary Chaison who is an industrial relations scholar and labor
historian at Clark University claim that the sweatshops are the workplace which is organised by the
unethical employers. It means the workers work for a long time under the stressful and dangerous
conditions but only get less wage in the sweatshops. The sweatshops are normally established for
the fashion industry. The reason why are the sweatshops help the fashion industry to separate the
higher and lower skilled job and contract out the lower skilled one easily. Moreover, the cost for
establishing the sweatshops is lower because the equipment for making the clothes will cost less
money and can be used for a long time. However, there are some advantages and disadvantages of
the sweatshops that cause the argument of establishing.

Apple Incorporation, to advance its Code of Conducts and efficient operation, has made the decision
to disclose the names and locations of supplier factories. In 2014, Apple Incorporation released the

This is to ensure that every supply chain division is operating a fight–free zone and the operations

adhering to environmental regulations. Apple Incorporation has received an outstanding
accomplishment its overall management. Some of Apples accomplishments represents the picture
that are, however, meaningless that how the company indicates. Nevertheless, the company's public
image has ominously improved due to its positive portrayal of its actions. For instance, the company
has unconstrained report that shows that 95% of all weeks the employees work in the supply chain
met the Apple's regulation of 60 hours (excepting Chinese law that limits workweeks to 49h hours).
However, this compliance report of is slightly higher than 35 percent figure that was released in
2011. It is importance to acknowledge that while degree of compliance may be overstated and
maybe understated, the company is making fundamental progress. According to many of its verified
reports, the averaged workweeks for the overall employees in the company's supply chain are
approximately 54 hours per week: 54 hours of repetitive, physical and hard labor (Andersen, 2011).

The Psychological Contract Of The Company, Sas And Its...
Assignment 1 Response 1: The psychological contract that I conclude to exist between the company,
SAS and its employees is trust in regards to "creating a great work environment" and "employee
commitment." The employees are expecting the company to continue its efforts in creating an
environment that fosters a phenomenal work/life balance in exchange to produce quality work. The
excess hours spent at work would normally be spent with family or as a time of relaxation, so being
in an environment where you are home away from home is a necessity that impacts directly on
customer service. For an example, the study published in the Harvard Business Review article, "The
Employee–Customer Profit Chain at Sears" proved that an increase in employee satisfaction resulted
in customer satisfaction, which resulted in higher profits. (The Psychological Contract and
Commitment 3). A good relationship between employees and their working environment has a
definite success rate for better service. The psychological contract of earning its employee's
commitment is an unwritten understanding that takes SAS to new heights. The company continues
to reward their work with unbelievable benefits, in order to keep their lives outside of working hours
and family living significant. The company's treatment of their employees, without a doubt, is the
reasoning behind its employee's commitment to SAS. Based on employee testimonials in the link
provided, its evident they are not fully committed

**Marginal Product measures additional output from one more unit of the variable input.**
o MPA = MS/MA
= ∂Sales (units) / ∂Advertising (OR ∂Q/∂A) = 100 – A
B. What is the rule for determining the optimal amount of a resource to employ in a production
system? Explain the logic underlying this rule.
o The rule for determining the optimal amount of a resource to employ is:
MRPA = PA (see slide 17)
MPA * MRQ = PA (see slide 9)
The above equation turns to:
∂Q/∂A * ∂TR/∂Q = ∂TC/∂A
 Q's cancel each other out and the equation turns to:
∂TR/∂A = ∂TC/∂A
This leads to Marginal Total Revenue (MTR) = Marginal Total Cost (MTC), which means the
inflow = outflow.
C. Using the rule for optimal resource employment, determine the profit–maximizing number of
radio ads.
o Using the above equation MPA * MRQ = PA
 (100–A )* $2 = $100
$200–2A = $100 $100= 2A  A=$50

Impact Of Industrialization On Child Labor
During Industrialization in America, children were working and being mistreated, adults were
suffering as well. Industrialization happened in the late 1800's when people no longer wanted to
work in farms and decided to move to the city. Factories and mines needed workers but they would
pay them very little. Children were working instead of going to school and getting an education.
This only benefited the bosses of factories and railroads because they were the ones making the
most money. While the workers were struggling to be healthy and earn at least 2 dollars a day.
Children were in danger of getting their arm or leg seriously injured. The impacts of Industrialization
on workers was mostly negative because they were allowing workers to work in dangerous areas for
long hours and their health was being affected negatively. The response for these two topics did not
improve as the years passed. On the other hand, child labor was also an impact which its response
did improve.
Workers worked long hours. According to primary source document G which was created in 1894,
"The most of the men got under two dollars per pay." This document is titled, "Homestead and Its
Perilous Trades Impressioning of a Visit." It is for the workers and government of the United
States. This impact was negative because long work hours was bad for the health and it was also for
minimum wage. People were suffering to earn a living. These workers had families to maintain and

The Cost Of The United States
An increase in the number of vacation days or limiting the hours worked in a week by the
government may increase the quality of life by providing more leisure time. However, the overall
quality of life would struggle because in this day and age one has to have money to have a good
time. Recently after much debate, the French eliminated their 35–hour workweek limit with strong
justifiable arguments by both parties. The law was first put in place in 2000 due impart to the
unemployment rate that was around 10% at the time. Ideally with shorter workweeks companies
would have to hire more employees to maintain current outputs. Although, in recent years it has
become apparent that instead of lowering the unemployment rate, it has remained near ... Show

Despite having an extremely productive American companies are hesitant to open factories in
France when they may have to pay workers more than they would in America because of operating
cost of after an employee works 35
5
hours. With companies paying less overtime more foreign investments would be made creating jobs
and lowering unemployment would increase the quality of life as a nation as with greater disposable
income the quality leisure time itself would rise.
Ethical Hazards
While agreeing that with the elimination of the law, restrictions should still be enforced to protect
workers from exploitation by their employers. Giving companies more of an edge in their industries
by tampering with the workweek hours could become a slippery slop. The 35–hour week was not
just 35 hours and everyone goes home it's like the standard 40–hour week the United States
recognizes. After the 35 hours overtime pay is required which can cost companies millions and if
not kept in check companies could cut their operation cost to an all time low.
Ethically speaking companies should protect their workers from being overworked, but in reality
some of these companies are the same ones with sweatshops in 3rd world nations. The world is
money driven plain and simple. If allowed, companies will either overwork an employee or find one
that they can. Care for quality of life in the business world is a relatively new concept thanks to laws
and demands by customers.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind the practice of its professional responsibilities in an

"Subject to regulation 5, a worker's working time, including overtime, in any reference period which

The Directors of SAJA should make sure that they are taking reasonable steps, in keeping with the

A way in which we can improve staff working hours is by turning down projects that we cannot

expectations. Principle 2.2 – Competence of the 'RIBA Code of Professional Conduct' states that;
"Members should realistically appraise their ability to undertake and achieve any proposed work.
They should also make their clients aware of the likelihood of achieving the client's requirements

Essay On Spanish Culture Vs American Culture
The first dimension I will discuss is that of power distance. The United States has a fairly low score
of 40, whereas Spain is 57 and France is 68. This shows that both European countries are more
accepting of the hierarchal structure of their culture. France has a very structured class system, with
strong competition between each layer. The French are also raised as children to rely on their
parents, and this relationship further transfers into their adolescence, as they continue to rely on
other leadership roles such as teachers for guidance.
A fair level of inequality is also accepted in French society. Spain is very similar to France in this
aspect. A majority of Spain's population accepts that there is a hierarchical dynamic, and believes
that each person has their own place and duties within the hierarchy. People ... Show more content

All other countries in Europe, except for Portugal, are considered individualistic. Although, with a
score of 51, Spain could still be considered as one in comparison to other cultures who have a very
low score. Teamwork in Spain is something that flows very effortlessly through employee groups. In
America, employees are expected to rely more on themselves than a collective group. Another
difference is the Spanish place a high importance on family connections. It is not uncommon for
children not to go to college, and to instead live with their family until they marry. Even those who
do go off to school tend to migrate back to where their family resides and work close to home.
Americans frequently attend schools that are farther away from their families, and don't hold being
close to home as a priority. I, for example, go to school in Miami when my parents live in Dallas,
and wouldn't mind working in another state than them, which is a reflection of the individualistic
culture. In this section, France and the United States share more similarities, and Spain is the
opposite of both

Sector Report: the Aviation Industry in France
1. Introduction
The aerospace industry is a sovereign, high–tech, performing industry, which is essential for the
French economy as it creates prosperity for the country and aggrandizes its international reputation.
France's export success is the evidence that its products own the necessary quality and
competitiveness, as more than 75 percent of its consolidated incomes are realized through
exportation. This industry profile is a useful tool to help investors understand the emergence of the
French aerospace industry, as it aims to analyze the evolution of the sector and the influence of
different factors and developments on its existence. The French aerospace industry is divided in six
different market segments: civil and military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The development of the aircraft required enormous investments to around €12 billion. Up to now, in
its second life year, 200 orders have already been made and 13 A380's have been delivered. Off
course, this is insufficient to regain the huge development costs and everything depends on the
success of the first A380 planes. Nonetheless, as the world passenger traffic and congestion of
airports increases each year, it is almost certain that new orders on the A380 will soon be placed,
especially by emerging countries such as China and India.
2.1.4 Investment in R&D
According to the Invest in France Agency, French aerospace companies invest more than 16% of
their turnover in R&D activities in order to prepare for the future and to preserve their place in a
highly competitive environment. This is more than their competitors in other countries. In order to
keep developing competitive products, the French industry players have joined forces in 2 ambitious
research programs: Clean sky (EU level) and an agreement with the ministry of ecology and
sustainable development to establish a Civil Aeronautics Research Council. Various new
technologies and breakthrough inventions have been developed for the A380, making it the world's
most advanced and efficient airplane.
2.2 Weaknesses
2.2.1 Governmental support
The financial budget of the French government available for aerospace companies is quite small, in
comparison with the government support in the United States.

Nazi Party Ideologies
Nationalism is a far right party. In today's world we would be considered the "Nazi Party". Meaning
we have a very strong sense of an individual loyalty to our nation that exceeds any other interests
from outsiders. Due to this party we hold very strong ideologies. The three main topics we
researched were immigration, relations with the United States, and a 35–hour workweek
configuration. Then we determined which position our party would most closely stand with. For the
35–hour workweek we leaned towards position number 4 which was to require businesses to pay 1.5
times a worker's wage above 44 hours per week. 44 hours per week is about a 9AM–5PM shift,
which is a pretty standard work schedule. 8 hours a day is common. Concerning our relations with
the United States we choose position number 3 in which we neither censure nor assisted the United
States. This is the status quo. The reason for this is because we don't want to be involved at all. If the
nationalists became involved then wit would give the other countries being attacked to have reason

Based on the beliefs of nationalists we went with position number 5 which was to refuse asylum to
to anyone and deport as many illegal immigrants as possible. Being a nationalist means you tend to
want to keep the community as it is. You don't want any additions that aren't under qualifications
you agree with. Immigration is expensive to maintain. We also don't want them to take away jobs or
opportunities for our people. So if immigration is weeded out, it will be better for the nationalist
society to strengthen their workforce and policies on immigration. The reason for nationalism, is to
stay connected to our roots. Nationalist are with the people. It is to promote our people. It's the
common good. It's not something to be made flexible. It provides order for the people and is
important in society. By being a nationalist it can give you that

History Repeats Itself, A Fight For Fair Wage
In 1933, Roosevelt enacted the National Industrial Recovery Act (NRA). The act suspended anti–
trust laws so industries could enforce fair–trade resulting in less competition and higher wages. In
the beginning of the NRA, Roosevelt promulgated a President's Re–employment Agreement.
Employers signed more than 2.3 million agreements, covering 16.3 million employees. Employers
agreed to a 35–40 hour workweek, with a minimum wage of $12 to $15 per week. In turn,
businesses who signed the agreement displayed a blue eagle over the motto "We do our part."
Therefore, Patriotic Americans would buy only from "Blue Eagle". As a result, the economy would
recover from the "Great Depression". Unfortunately, May 27, 1935, the Supreme Court disarmed the

The actual percentage of income needed for taxes without inclusion of tax credits is 18%. However,
with tax credits included, as in the Standard, the family receives money back, and the amount owed
in taxes is reduced to 12%.
Opponents, who object to raising the minimum wage, argue that we should subsidize, not regulate.
In this case, that we should expand the Earned Income Tax Credit, an existing program that provides
significant aid to low–income families. The Tax Reduction Act of 1975 enacted the Earned Income
Tax Credit during the Ford administration. Originally, the EITC was supposed to be a temporary
refundable tax credit for lower–income workers to offset the Social Security payroll tax and rising
food and energy prices. The Revenue Act of 1978 made the credit permanent. The EITC was
considered both an anti–poverty program and an alternative to welfare because it incentives worked.
The EITC has changed since first enacted in 1975. The Tax Reform Act of 1986, signed by President

Should College Athletes Be Paid?
For over a century, college athletics have thrilled generations of fans; from alumni gathered in
stadiums to armchair quarterbacks, the fervor of team loyalty reaches spiritual proportions. This
popularity is evident from the gigantic economy college athletics have created, with the NCAA
raking in nearly eleven billion dollars last year (Edelman 7). A problem overlooked in spite of this
boom is the exploitation of the people who make this venture so profitable: the players. Although it
has not always been the case, the majority of players now are grossly undercompensated for
contributions to their alma maters, the sport, and the burgeoning economy created by the two.

As Katz notes, only in the 1950's did colleges introduce the athletic scholarship, when colleges
made little from athletics and demanded less from the athletes (1). The NCAA considers college
players "student–athletes", and it contends with the noble spirit of amateur athletic competition by
the college scholar. As Taylor Branch wrote in The Atlantic, this term was invented by the NCAA in
the 1950's, and came to prominence in a Colorado court case. A football player on athletic
scholarship died from a head injury while playing, and his widow sought workmen's compensation
benefits as a result. The school contended that he was not eligible for benefits, since they were "not
in the football business" (State Compensation Ins. Fund 1), and thus he was not an employee. The
Colorado Supreme Court agreed, and the myth of the student–athlete was born (Branch 4). Since
then, as Branch contends, the term has been used not to protect the "nobility of amateurism, and the
precedence of scholarship over athletic endeavor", but to protect educational institutions from
liability arising from injured player's claims (4). The physical toll taken on the bodies of college
athletes must be taken into account as an occupational hazard. In the Colorado case and others,
colleges and the NCAA persistently claim that they are not employers and have no responsibility as
such, when the players are in fact required to play to pay for their school.

The Complex Subject of Minimum Wage in Our Economy
The legally established minimum wage is a complex aspect of our economy. On the surface, the idea
is simple: the minimum wage fixes the minimum hourly amount an employer must pay his
employee. But at a deeper level, calculating the economic impact of a minimum wage is a
challenging task full of projections and speculations, and with this uncertainty comes contentious
political debate. Economic liberals argue that the minimum wage should be aggressively raised,
while conservatives argue that it should remain at its current state.
Ultimately, a combination of historical evidence, economic analysis, and an understanding of
psychology suggest that we should not raise the minimum wage. The minimum wage makes low–
skill work less affordable to employers, meaning that fewer people can be hired. Since work
experience is a vital part of building a successful career, this means that fewer people will have the
opportunity to move up the economic ladder. Rather than institute a simple, short–term minimum
wage increase, extensive training programs should be implemented to help give low–skill workers
real–world knowledge and skills. Likewise, employers should be granted tax incentives for hiring
more employees.
The minimum wage has had an effect upon our economy for over 75 years. When the Fair Labor
Standards Act was signed into law by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1938, it set a federal
minimum wage, stipulations for overtime, and minimum working conditions for child labor

Ohio Constitution Limitations
The Ohio Constitution is a massive document that not only details the rights of individuals as one
would expect, but it also details how the state and local governments are to be set up as well as
conduct business including their limitations. It begins with five pages of the Bill of Rights for every
Ohio citizen with many mirroring the US Constitution. Most were enacted in 1851 with only four
amended or created within the last century. The most shocking is the §10a Rights of Victims of
Crime that was not added to the Bill of Rights until 1994. This section leaves me puzzled and trying
to determine if it is because it is included as a Right or the fact that it was not included before 1994.

Types Of Flexible Work Arrangements
Corporations all around the wolrd are now providing with flexible work arrangements that allow
their current employees to create an equilibrium between their personal lives and their careers.
Although having these arrangements helps companies engage and retain outstanding employees,
they have presented some challenges and predicaments as well. Some of the most common types of
flexible work arrangements include: flextime, compressed work weeks, and telecommmuting. The
first work arrangement, flextime, is a type of arrangement that enables an employee to modify their
work day hours outside a traditional work schedule and business hours. An employer 's core hours
fluctuate from one company to another and even within departments/subdivisions. The purpose of
flextime is to establish a pliable environment where employees are able to fuse their work and
private life more productively. One of the advantages of flextime is that allows a company to save in
overtime expenditures. Instead of paying an employee for working hours beyond their schedule in
order to meet their quota, an employee who chooses flextime receives a regular wage. On the other
hand, one of the disadvantages of offering flextime is the lack of administration and supervision
towards those who work unusual hours. This type of inconvenience induces a lack of responsibility
and respect towards a company 's regulations and/or policies. Flextime could also force a company
to modernize their security and time recording

The name "Korea" is from Goryeo, a dynasty which ruled in the middle Ages. Its neighbours are
China to the west, Japan to the east, and North Korea to the north. South Korea lies in the North
Temperate Zone with a mostly mountainous terrain. It covers a total area of 99,392 square
kilometres and has a population of 50 million. The capital and largest city is Seoul, with a
population of 9.8 million.
Archaeology indicates that the Korean Peninsula was occupied by the Lower Palaeolithic period.
Korean history begins with the founding of Gojoseon in 2333 BC by the legendary Dan–gun.
Following the incorpotion of the Three Kingdoms of Korea under Silla 668 AD, Korea was ruled by
the Goryeo Dynasty (918–1392) and Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910). It was annexed by the Empire of
Japan in 1910. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided into Soviet and U.S. zones of
occupation. An election was held the U.S. zone in 1948 which led to the creation of the Republic of
Korea. Although the United Nations passed a resolution declaring the Republic to be the only lawful
government in Korea, the Soviets set up a rival government in the North.
The Korean War began in 1950 when forces from the North invaded the South. The war lasted three
years and involved the U.S., China, the Soviet Union, and many other nations. The border between
the two nations remains the most heavily fortified in the world. In the decades that followed, the

French businessmen saw a devaluation coming. Many sent funds abroad, further impairing the
economy. The French economy did not decline further after the sharp 1932 decline, but it also did
not recover. The econmy stagnated for 3 years. Unemployment and industrial production in 1935
were basically the same as in 1932. [Hill, p. 37.] The left–wing parties increasingly attacked the
Government and charged it with a callous social outlook. Tardieu defended his policies and warned
that the left–wing parties (Communists and Socialists) would bring further economic decline,
anarchy and ruin. The end result would be the Popular Front. The Popular Front: In 1935, the parties

Upton Sinclair's The Jungle: An Analysis
In The Jungle, Author Upton Sinclair uses Jurgis, the main character of the book, as an example of
what the common working man's life was like. Jurgis, along with all his family are Lithuanian
immigrants, who just immigrated to the U.S. Not knowing the foreign culture, they were hired by a
meatpacking plant. This plant, ran by corrupt politicians, applied strict rules and regulations; not
reimbursing/paying their workers enough, long hours, etc. Jurgis joined a Union, after realizing he
should fight for his rights as a laborer. Sinclair's opinion about labor rights was, that the common
working man should fight for, and be granted more rights to increase their chance of supporting their
families.

For after all the hard work a man did, he was only paid for part of it." (Sinclair 95). Sinclair hits two
rights that laborers were fighting for in the unions in this quote. The first right Sinclair spoke of was
of long working hours, when he said "And so on Christmas Eve Jurgis worked till nearly one o'clock
in the morning, and on Christmas Day he was on the killing beds at seven o'clock.". Sinclair visually
paints a picture in the reader's mind of how long the common working man's hours were. The other
right Sinclair spoke of was unfair pay when he wrote "All this was bad; and yet it was not the worst.
For after all the hard work a man did, he was only paid for a part of it.". Sinclair suggests how
unethical the wages were with emotion. The reader can almost picture how little a laborer might get
paid for his long hours of work. Sinclair united these two rights he thought laborers should fight for,
into one powerful sentence.
In conclusion, Upton Sinclair has a strong opinion that the typical working man should quarrel for,
and be granted more rights. When they get more rights, they boost their chance of supporting their
families. Sinclair used his novel The Jungle to express many things about what life was

use, in addition to the fewer resources used to put the building up in the first place. 3. Drew Miller

Particularly if that 'play' involves drugs, sex, and discussing Foucault over pork chops in a
coffeehouse. As the late great president of Tanzania, real socialism doesn't involve more free time
and less work. That's hipster (fake) socialism, a pale substitute for the real thing. Real socialism
involves hard labor and shared sacrifice. It is a creed for tough men and tough women, not for
hipster cosmopolites. 13. Hector says: July 28th, 2009 at 2:56 pm Re: As usual, the hipster's answer
to everything is "More work, and less play". Sorry, correct that. Real Christians and real Socialists
believe in More Work, and Less Play. Hipsters believe in Less Work, and More Play. 14. Drew says:
July 28th, 2009 at 2:56 pm Before I labeled the change from a 10–hour workday to an 8–hour
workday "relatively painless," I'd ask the workers effected by the change whether they found it to be
"relatively painless." It may be the same number of hours per week, but the physical and mental
stress of a 10–hour day may be disproportionately larger than that of an 8–hour day. In my
experience, that's definitely been the case. 15. Adam says: July 28th, 2009 at 2:57 pm They serve

Western France Ethical Issues Essay
I do not think that ethical concerns of half a century ago are things of the past. The social–welfare
states of Western Europe were founded with specific ethical concerns in mind that cannot be ignored
during a time of economic change. Reducing social and economic inequality, improving the living
standards of the poor, and providing nearly free health care to all are goals that are good for the
society as a whole; therefore, they will continue to hold importance no matter how much time has
passed. France is committed to protecting workers rights, and that priority should always exist. I
believe that market reform will not be able to protect these priorities and it will re–create conditions
seen before these priorities were established, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the Totalization Agreement that the United States and France share provides American
workers in France with more benefits. For example, before this agreement, if both the U.S. and
French social security systems covered an employee's work, the employee and his or her employer
would normally have to pay Social Security taxes to both countries for the same work (ssa). The
agreement eliminates this double coverage, so that taxes are paid to only one system; an employee
working in France will only pay taxes to France (ssa). This will increase an employee's annual
earnings, which makes working abroad more attractive. In addition, an employee may have some
Social Security credits in both the United States and France but not have enough to be eligible for
benefits in one country or the other (ssa). The agreement makes it easier to qualify for benefits by
letting an employee add together his or her Social Security credits in both countries (ssa). This
further increases the "social safety net" of American workers in

PROFESSIONAL AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS ORGANIZATION V. REAGAN: THE
STRIKE THAT HELPED SHAPE U. S. LABOR RELATIONS
Thirty one years ago, when President Ronald Reagan threatened to fire approximately
13,000 air traffic controllers unless they called off an illegal strike, the president not only
transformed his presidency, but also shaped the labor relations in the United States.
The Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) strike of August 3. 1981 was a
remarkable day in the history of this country. Under the direction of union president,
Robert E. Poli, 14,500 members declared a nationwide strike. Approximately 11,500 members
walked off their jobs because of contract disputes with the Federal Aviation ... Show more content

"It won an order directing that the stoppage be ended and that controllers return to work. The FAA
won similar orders in Minnesota and Alaska" (Northrup 169). As a direct result, the FAA fired fifty
two controllers, of whom forty six were later reinstated to their positions. The FAA also suspended
nearly on thousand more controllers for a short period of time. As a result of the strike, Bailey's
tenure as executive director of PATCO came to an end when his position was abolished.
Subsequently, John F.
Leyden was chosen as president, a position that he held for the next ten years. In addition,
Assistant Secretary of Labor W. J. Usery disqualified PATCO as a bargaining agent for 126 days.
The union was later reinstated by Usery and it won exclusive bargaining rights election in 1972. In
July and August of 1976 tensions ran high again after the Civil Service Commissioner declined to
reclassified controllers to a higher salary grade. The result was that PATCO staged slowdowns for
five days at the nation's busiest airports. Its tactics proved successful when on
January 13, 1977, the Commission reversed itself and increased controllers' wages (Northrup
170).
In preparations for subsequent strikes, in 1977 PATCO established a strike fund known as the
National Controller Subsistence Fund. 15 percent of the membership dues were

Work-Life Balance and Long Hours

  • 1. Essay about Work-Life Conflicts 5.1. Conclusion In conclusion the literature suggests that working long hours is perceived to impact negatively on various aspects of work and home life. Compressed workweeks (one Work Life Balance practice) tend to be associated with positive effects such as increases in job satisfaction and performance. Those who did not feel in control of their working lives were much more likely to report a sense of powerlessness in their organisation; much less likely to feel loyal to their organisation or that their organisation was loyal to them. They were also significantly less likely to recommend their organisation as a place to work; to want to leave their organisation; to feel that they were being exploited by their organisation and that ... It could also further investigate the acute effects of long hours (for example after a long day) and the cumulative effects (for example, after weekly or monthly long hours). Good quality studies that look at the effects of reducing working hours would shed more light on the impact of long working hours on health and safety. Data from other countries, where a working week of 35 hours has been adopted, can help to make implementation plan for same in Pakistan. Work–life balance programs, Flexible working hours in the U.S. and EU are known everywhere in the world which can be adopted by the organizations for its employees. The following lists some of the more common work–life benefits: o Flex–time o Telecommuting o Child care o Elder care o Leave (e.g. paternity, etc.) o Job–sharing o Employee Assistance Programs o In–house store/services o Gym subsidies o Concierge services o Vacation o Work hours Works Cited Baltes, B.B., Briggs, T.E., Huff, J.W., Wright, J.A., and Neuman, G.A. • 5. Identification Of Ethical Dilemma Of Global Environment :... 1) Identification of Ethical Dilemma in Global Environment: The quality of life is one of many ethical dilemmas seen globally. The quality of life can be described as "the degree to which a person enjoys the important possibilities of his/her life. Possibilities result from the opportunities and limitations each person has in his/her life and reflect the interaction of personal and environmental factors. Enjoyment has two components: the experience of satisfaction and the possession or achievement of some characteristic (The Global Development Researcher Center)." A person cannot experience these things if he/she is overworked. The United States is at the bottom of the chart for quality of life because of over–worked employees with little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Work should ennoble, not kill, the human spirit. Promoting workers' well–being isn't just ethical; it makes economic sense. Fostering positive inner lives sometimes requires leaders to better articulate meaning in the work for everyone across the organization (Teresa Amabile, 2011)." Setting a workweek limit is part of promoting workers' well–being, therefore, I do not think that the French parliament should have eliminated the 35– hour workweek limit. A better option would be to have changed the limit to 40–hours per workweek, along with other implications. I believe that the limit served as a reminder to allow each person time for rest and enjoyment of life. As the Ethical Dilemma article states, the 35–hour maximum puts the decision of how much to work in the employee's hands. This may be so, but I believe it to be fair for the employee to decide how much he/she works as long as the employee meets the minimum amount of work hours required and does not exceed the workweek hour limit. A recent study found that "of 1,200 American adults, 18 percent worked 60 hours or more every week, with another 21 percent claiming to work between 50 and 59 hours. Still another 11 percent estimated between 41 and 49 hours per week, leaving a total of 50 percent of American adults working more than 40 hours every week (DeMers, 2015)." DeMers goes on to explain that this is sometimes the choice of the employee, but these harsh work week hours are usually mandated by the upper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Great Depression France The Start to the French Depression: Another country that suffered just as much as the United Kingdom had was France. Causes of their downward spiral were due to an underdeveloped economy. France's industry was far inferior to Great Britain's, particularly in farming. Tourism was also a big part of France's economy, and during this time, many individuals simply did not have the money to travel around the world. France, like the United Kingdom, also suffered to recover from World War I. While not as bad, France relied heavily on German reparations, to pay for reconstruction. Once reparations had ceased, the Depression in France took place. Starting in 1931, France did not recover from the Depression until the remainder of the decade. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The broad overview shows rapid growth in the 1920s,a sharp decline from 1930 to 1932,then a mild decline from 1932 to 1936,and slow recovery toward the eve of World War II. Figure 2: Unemployment grew PIB: This Graph shows how the GDP (gross domestic product) in France declines in the year of 1932 which is when the depression had impact on the country. It slowly recovers in the year of 1933 but experiences a moderate fall in the 2 to 3 next years due to industrial and political issues. Government act: In May 1936,a coalition of Socialists and Communists won the elections, and the Socialist leader L´eon Blum became Pr´esident du Conseil in June. The new labor market regulations imposed by the Front Populaire provoked a large increase in the cost of labor. First, the government imposed collective bargaining on wage contracts between employers and trade unions. Second, the workweek was reduced from 48 to 40 hours, keeping the weekly or monthly wage constant. The rigid and sudden reduction of the work week to 40 hours in 1936 also seems to have caused bottlenecks in many industries, which blocked the beginning of recovery. Third, workers were granted two weeks of paid holidays, again keeping the weekly or monthly wage constant. Fourth, the civil servant wage cut was suspended. At the same time,a nationwide strike movement led to the Accords de Matignon, where wages were increased on average by 12%. It seems that these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some people think the sweatshops should not establish because it cause the problems for the workers but some of people go against and show the advantages of the sweatshops opening. In my viewpoint, the sweatshops can not be closed down but they can be improved by the consumers. Therefore, the essay will be focus on the determine of sweatshops, the problems for the workers if establishing the sweatshops and the advantages of opening the sweatshops. The sweatshops for the fashion industry "Sweatshops" which is written by Gary Chaison who is an industrial relations scholar and labor historian at Clark University claim that the sweatshops are the workplace which is organised by the unethical employers. It means the workers work for a long time under the stressful and dangerous conditions but only get less wage in the sweatshops. The sweatshops are normally established for the fashion industry. The reason why are the sweatshops help the fashion industry to separate the higher and lower skilled job and contract out the lower skilled one easily. Moreover, the cost for establishing the sweatshops is lower because the equipment for making the clothes will cost less money and can be used for a long time. Assignment 1 Response 1: The psychological contract that I conclude to exist between the company, SAS and its employees is trust in regards to "creating a great work environment" and "employee commitment." The employees are expecting the company to continue its efforts in creating an environment that fosters a phenomenal work/life balance in exchange to produce quality work. The excess hours spent at work would normally be spent with family or as a time of relaxation, so being in an environment where you are home away from home is a necessity that impacts directly on customer service. For an example, the study published in the Harvard Business Review article, "The Employee–Customer Profit Chain at Sears" proved that an increase in employee satisfaction resulted in customer satisfaction, which resulted in higher profits. (The Psychological Contract and Commitment 3). A good relationship between employees and their working environment has a definite success rate for better service. The psychological contract of earning its employee's commitment is an unwritten understanding that takes SAS to new heights. The company continues to reward their work with unbelievable benefits, in order to keep their lives outside of working hours and family living significant. Industrialization happened in the late 1800's when people no longer wanted to work in farms and decided to move to the city. Factories and mines needed workers but they would pay them very little. Children were working instead of going to school and getting an education. This only benefited the bosses of factories and railroads because they were the ones making the most money. While the workers were struggling to be healthy and earn at least 2 dollars a day. Children were in danger of getting their arm or leg seriously injured. The impacts of Industrialization on workers was mostly negative because they were allowing workers to work in dangerous areas for long hours and their health was being affected negatively. The response for these two topics did not improve as the years passed. On the other hand, child labor was also an impact which its response did improve. Workers worked long hours. The Cost Of The United States An increase in the number of vacation days or limiting the hours worked in a week by the government may increase the quality of life by providing more leisure time. However, the overall quality of life would struggle because in this day and age one has to have money to have a good time. Recently after much debate, the French eliminated their 35–hour workweek limit with strong justifiable arguments by both parties. The law was first put in place in 2000 due impart to the unemployment rate that was around 10% at the time. Ideally with shorter workweeks companies would have to hire more employees to maintain current outputs. Despite having an extremely productive American companies are hesitant to open factories in France when they may have to pay workers more than they would in America because of operating cost of after an employee works 35 5 hours. With companies paying less overtime more foreign investments would be made creating jobs and lowering unemployment would increase the quality of life as a nation as with greater disposable income the quality leisure time itself would rise. Ethical Hazards While agreeing that with the elimination of the law, restrictions should still be enforced to protect workers from exploitation by their employers. Giving companies more of an edge in their industries by tampering with the workweek hours could become a slippery slop. The 35–hour week was not just 35 hours and everyone goes home it's like the standard 40–hour week the United States recognizes. After the 35 hours overtime pay is required which can cost companies millions and if not kept in check companies could cut their operation cost to an all time low. Ethically speaking companies should protect their workers from being overworked, but in reality some of these companies are the same ones with sweatshops in 3rd world nations. The United States has a fairly low score of 40, whereas Spain is 57 and France is 68. This shows that both European countries are more accepting of the hierarchal structure of their culture. France has a very structured class system, with strong competition between each layer. The French are also raised as children to rely on their parents, and this relationship further transfers into their adolescence, as they continue to rely on other leadership roles such as teachers for guidance. A fair level of inequality is also accepted in French society. Spain is very similar to France in this aspect. A majority of Spain's population accepts that there is a hierarchical dynamic, and believes that each person has their own place and duties within the hierarchy. People ... Although, with a score of 51, Spain could still be considered as one in comparison to other cultures who have a very low score. Teamwork in Spain is something that flows very effortlessly through employee groups. In America, employees are expected to rely more on themselves than a collective group. Another difference is the Spanish place a high importance on family connections. It is not uncommon for children not to go to college, and to instead live with their family until they marry. Even those who do go off to school tend to migrate back to where their family resides and work close to home. Americans frequently attend schools that are farther away from their families, and don't hold being close to home as a priority. • 94. Nazi Party Ideologies Nationalism is a far right party. In today's world we would be considered the "Nazi Party". Meaning we have a very strong sense of an individual loyalty to our nation that exceeds any other interests from outsiders. Due to this party we hold very strong ideologies. The three main topics we researched were immigration, relations with the United States, and a 35–hour workweek configuration. Then we determined which position our party would most closely stand with. For the 35–hour workweek we leaned towards position number 4 which was to require businesses to pay 1.5 times a worker's wage above 44 hours per week. 44 hours per week is about a 9AM–5PM shift, which is a pretty standard work schedule. 8 hours a day is common. Concerning our relations with the United States we choose position number 3 in which we neither censure nor assisted the United States. This is the status quo. The reason for this is because we don't want to be involved at all. If the nationalists became involved then wit would give the other countries being attacked to have reason to possibly be ... We also don't want them to take away jobs or opportunities for our people. So if immigration is weeded out, it will be better for the nationalist society to strengthen their workforce and policies on immigration. The reason for nationalism, is to stay connected to our roots. Nationalist are with the people. It is to promote our people. It's the common good. It's not something to be made flexible. The act suspended anti– trust laws so industries could enforce fair–trade resulting in less competition and higher wages. In the beginning of the NRA, Roosevelt promulgated a President's Re–employment Agreement. Employers signed more than 2.3 million agreements, covering 16.3 million employees. Employers agreed to a 35–40 hour workweek, with a minimum wage of $12 to $15 per week. In turn, businesses who signed the agreement displayed a blue eagle over the motto "We do our part." Opponents, who object to raising the minimum wage, argue that we should subsidize, not regulate. In this case, that we should expand the Earned Income Tax Credit, an existing program that provides significant aid to low–income families. The Tax Reduction Act of 1975 enacted the Earned Income Tax Credit during the Ford administration. Originally, the EITC was supposed to be a temporary refundable tax credit for lower–income workers to offset the Social Security payroll tax and rising food and energy prices. The Revenue Act of 1978 made the credit permanent. The EITC was considered both an anti–poverty program and an alternative to welfare because it incentives worked. • 103. Should College Athletes Be Paid? For over a century, college athletics have thrilled generations of fans; from alumni gathered in stadiums to armchair quarterbacks, the fervor of team loyalty reaches spiritual proportions. This popularity is evident from the gigantic economy college athletics have created, with the NCAA raking in nearly eleven billion dollars last year (Edelman 7). A problem overlooked in spite of this boom is the exploitation of the people who make this venture so profitable: the players. Although it has not always been the case, the majority of players now are grossly undercompensated for contributions to their alma maters, the sport, and the burgeoning economy created by the two. College athletes are exploited when universities refuse to acknowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Katz notes, only in the 1950's did colleges introduce the athletic scholarship, when colleges made little from athletics and demanded less from the athletes (1). The NCAA considers college players "student–athletes", and it contends with the noble spirit of amateur athletic competition by the college scholar. As Taylor Branch wrote in The Atlantic, this term was invented by the NCAA in the 1950's, and came to prominence in a Colorado court case. A football player on athletic scholarship died from a head injury while playing, and his widow sought workmen's compensation benefits as a result. The school contended that he was not eligible for benefits, since they were "not in the football business" (State Compensation Ins. Fund 1), and thus he was not an employee. The Colorado Supreme Court agreed, and the myth of the student–athlete was born (Branch 4). Since then, as Branch contends, the term has been used not to protect the "nobility of amateurism, and the precedence of scholarship over athletic endeavor", but to protect educational institutions from liability arising from injured player's claims (4). The physical toll taken on the bodies of college athletes must be taken into account as an occupational hazard. In the Colorado case and others, colleges and the NCAA persistently claim that they are not employers and have no responsibility as such, when the players are in fact required to play to pay for their school. ... • 115. The Complex Subject of Minimum Wage in Our Economy The legally established minimum wage is a complex aspect of our economy. On the surface, the idea is simple: the minimum wage fixes the minimum hourly amount an employer must pay his employee. But at a deeper level, calculating the economic impact of a minimum wage is a challenging task full of projections and speculations, and with this uncertainty comes contentious political debate. Economic liberals argue that the minimum wage should be aggressively raised, while conservatives argue that it should remain at its current state. Ultimately, a combination of historical evidence, economic analysis, and an understanding of psychology suggest that we should not raise the minimum wage. The minimum wage makes low– skill work less affordable to employers, meaning that fewer people can be hired. Since work experience is a vital part of building a successful career, this means that fewer people will have the opportunity to move up the economic ladder. Rather than institute a simple, short–term minimum wage increase, extensive training programs should be implemented to help give low–skill workers real–world knowledge and skills. Likewise, employers should be granted tax incentives for hiring more employees. The minimum wage has had an effect upon our economy for over 75 years. When the Fair Labor Standards Act was signed into law by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1938, it set a federal minimum wage, stipulations for overtime, and minimum working conditions for child labor ... Ohio Constitution Limitations The Ohio Constitution is a massive document that not only details the rights of individuals as one would expect, but it also details how the state and local governments are to be set up as well as conduct business including their limitations. It begins with five pages of the Bill of Rights for every Ohio citizen with many mirroring the US Constitution. Most were enacted in 1851 with only four amended or created within the last century. The most shocking is the §10a Rights of Victims of Crime that was not added to the Bill of Rights until 1994. Among these last few Articles is where the Constitution lays out how and when the state is allowed to tax its citizens. In three short pages, it manages to lay out how property, real estate, estates, motor vehicles and fuel, income, inheritance, and food can be taxed. While researching Ohio's Constitution, I was particularly amazed at how many section have not been updated since the document was adopted in 1851. Some of the wording used in those days would be considered offensive by a majority of citizens, yet they have updated many sections around them and left those certain ones untouched. Types Of Flexible Work Arrangements Corporations all around the wolrd are now providing with flexible work arrangements that allow their current employees to create an equilibrium between their personal lives and their careers. Although having these arrangements helps companies engage and retain outstanding employees, they have presented some challenges and predicaments as well. Some of the most common types of flexible work arrangements include: flextime, compressed work weeks, and telecommmuting. The first work arrangement, flextime, is a type of arrangement that enables an employee to modify their work day hours outside a traditional work schedule and business hours. An employer 's core hours fluctuate from one company to another and even within departments/subdivisions. The purpose of flextime is to establish a pliable environment where employees are able to fuse their work and private life more productively. One of the advantages of flextime is that allows a company to save in overtime expenditures. Instead of paying an employee for working hours beyond their schedule in order to meet their quota, an employee who chooses flextime receives a regular wage. On the other hand, one of the disadvantages of offering flextime is the lack of administration and supervision towards those who work unusual hours. This type of inconvenience induces a lack of responsibility and respect towards a company 's regulations and/or policies. Flextime could also force a company to modernize their security and time recording ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following the incorpotion of the Three Kingdoms of Korea under Silla 668 AD, Korea was ruled by the Goryeo Dynasty (918–1392) and Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910). France, like the United Kingdom, also suffered to recover from World War I. While not as bad, France relied heavily on German reparations, to pay for reconstruction. Sinclair suggests how unethical the wages were with emotion. The reader can almost picture how little a laborer might get paid for his long hours of work.
