Abstract: The aim of the experiment is to examine the relationship between personality and
participation in sport. Specifically, it will investigate whether there is a connection between particular
personality traits. The data for the experiment was collected using a questionnaire. There were a total
of 28 participants in this experiment, with 10 males and 18 females. The participants had to state their
gender and what sport they play. Participants were required to indicate their response by circling the
rating on the scale of 1 to 5 that mostly represents what they thought their personality traits were.
Rating 1 and 2 related to the trait presented on the left and rating 4 and 5 related to the trait presented
on the right. All participants were given an anonymous number which they used to record their results
again on the data record sheet with the rest of the classes results. An average of each participant s
results for the Big Five s personality traits was then calculated. The results showed that there was both
a high and weak correlation between the different types of sports and the different types of personality
