Colonial Empires Of The New World
Colonial Empires of the New World
Lea A Bradford
Central High School
November 9, 2015
4th Period Abstract
In my paper I will be discussing the different colonies in the new world. I will talk about the main
settlers in the new world including; the Europeans, the Spanish, the Dutch, the French. How these
settlers interact will be the main topic of my report. I will also discuss the effect these settlers had
on the Indians that lived in the territories they claimed.
Empires and Colonies in the New World The first foreign settlers that came to the new world
were the Spanish. Many countries seeked trade with Asia but had to go around the tip of Africa to
get there. In 1492 the king of Spain at the time King Ferdinand funded the voyage of a Christopher
Columbus to sail across the ocean to find a better rout than what was being currently used. While he
never set foot in North America he opened the door for English exploration.
By the time the English made it over to the new world the Spanish had already explored a lot of
North America and encountered three major groups of peoples; the Incans in present day Peru, and
the Mayans and Aztecs in present day Mexico and South America. With their exploration they
found wealth in the form of gold and silver. They brought guns, horses, and armor that made the
local peoples view them as gods. But along with foreign technologies they brought illness.
Smallpox, influenza, malaria, measles, typhus and syphilis were transported to the

Object Oriented And How It Has Gained Popularity For Cost...
Research Question: Object oriented (OO) technology in software design and implementation
has gained popularity for cost reduction and quality improvement. Research the concept of OO.
In 10 pages ( double spaced, 12 point Times Roman font with 1 inch margins ), explain the
evolution of OO, how it differs from procedural programming, why it is more cost effective and
how it can improve software quality. The research project will be submitted through Turnitin Be
sure to locate at least 6 sources to reference. Cite your sources. Abstract This paper is about the
evolution of Object oriented technology in software design and implementation and its role in
current market for developing web based products or server side scripting. Many Object
oriented languages have come in market but among them companies prefer to use open source
OO languages such as Java, C++, C# .NET, and Visual Basic .NET etc. The demand for these
languages has increased because the cost of licensing is very less or nothing. As these
languages are open source, it easy to find relevant libraries and source code for the developers
while developing a product. The cost of the infrastructure such as development IDE s or testing
tools are also minimal or available for free. Hence all these factors decrease the cost of developing
a product using Object oriented technology. The basic concept of OO language is Objects. An
Object is a combination of attributes and behaviors. An object is an entity that contains

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Chivalier 2 POLYCYSTIC OVARIES SYNDROME By: Christina Chivalier Polycystic Ovaries
Syndrome (PCOS) is an ovulation disorder and infertility that occurs in many women.
Polycystic ovaries syndrome dates back to 1845 where it was described in a French manuscript
as being changes in the ovaries . It was called sclerocystic . Polycystic ovaries syndrome is a
problem that occurs in with the ovaries. A polycystic ovary is characterized as being a tough,
thickened, shiny white covering overlying a layer of many small cysts just under the ovarian
surface. (Thatcher, 10). That was the description that was found in the French manuscript and is
still being used to this day for doctors to define polycystic ovaries. A wedge resection in... Show

in the blame of PCOS are difficult to study. There are many reasons why genetics are very
complicated to study. These reasons are listed below. (Thatcher, 44) В·Lack of a universally
accepted diagnosis of PCOS В·Outward appearance (phenotype) can be vastly different despite
similar genetic constitutions (genotype). В·PCOS patients often come from small families with
a limited number of sisters and brothers (sibs) to compare. В·We are not sure what PCOS looks
like in the male. В·There has been no specific genetic marker for PCOS. В·Problems in
collection of family histories. Males can pass the PCOS gene down through there families just
as much as a female can pass it on. There are some males that are more hairy than other males;
these males have been shown to carry the PCOS gene. Studies also show that males that carry
the PCOS gene are more likely to have a lowered sperm count. It is also mentioned that the males
of PCOS are insulin resistant. Miscarriages happen more often among women that have PCOS.
Miscarriages happen due to hormonal imbalance but when an altered hormonal environment
makes Chivalier 5 the risk of a miscarriage more likely to occur. PCOS causes poor egg quality and
that is the major reason of pregnancy loss.

Malpractice And Malpractice Of A Healthcare Organization
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This paper will be discussing tort as it relates to negligence and malpractice in a healthcare
organization. It will try explain how negligence and malpractice drive up the cost of healthcare and
how there has been a clamor tort reform, what would be the content of the reform and the expected
outcome. Lastly the essay would prove to us that there is no indication since tort reform has been
implemented, that points to a reduction in the cost of healthcare and the cost of running a
healthcare organization in relation to paying high malpractice insurance.
TORT
Tort is a civil wrong for which a court of law provides remedy for a civil wrong that has been
committed against an individual, Remedy could be sought for a personal loss, financial loss, and
personal injury (Smith, 1993). A tort is simply the Norman word for a wrong but torts have
typically been distinguished from crimes and from wrongs identified with contractual relations. Tort
law, then, is concerned with civil wrongs not arising from contracts (White, 2003,
p.xxiii).During the very early years of tort been introduced in to legal discourse and proceeding, tort
was considered as a wrong that came by way or forceful damage or hurt. It was widely regarded
both as a civil wrong and a criminal during those early years, civil wrongs can be classified as a
wrong that involves no violence and also a wrong that involves an element of force and violence
(Street, 1906).

The Discovery Of The New World
The discovery of the New World brought many irreversible changes not only for the European
countries, but to the natives of the land that was being discovered. The sense of exploration began
expanding more and more among the European powers. Every time the explorers invaded, they
would be more avaricious and aggressive against the natives of the land. Along with diseases and
inhumane treatments, the European powers also brought education to the uneducated crowds of
areas such as India, Africa, and China. The main intention of the foreign powers was to
Europeanize the natives of these lands and enslave them into doing the European s dirty work. To
attain such results, the Europeans tried converting the natives lifestyles completely. These
conversions ranged from substituting the natives religionwith Christianity, to the way they labored,
and to the way they portrayed themselves. All the changes the natives had to go through, are clearly
seen in excerpts of Feng Guifen, Afghani, and Gandhi. Each of these men describe the different
aspects changed by the Europeans, for instance Feng Guifen describes the education system brought
by the Europeans and how that affected Asia. Afghani describes the input of science in Islam, while
Gandhi describes the cold heartedness that has spread among the natives and how they have
become civilized. The emergence of the European powers on territories such as Asia became
visible especially in education. Once Europeans began taking over

An Essay About The World Of The Black, White, And Die Out...
So many tribes. So many factions. Straight, queer. Black, white. Male, Female. Tall, short. Fat,
thin. Happy, unhappy. Trapped, free. Oppressed, Liberated. Doubting, self assured. Old, young.
Birthing, dying. Wasted, realised. So many lives, so many stories. Some reach fruition, while
others are stifled never fulfilling their fullest potentials. Some of us are born into privilege and
yet others live and and die out on the street. For the vast majority of us however, we are born, we
live what is termed an average life and we die. We become markers in a field someplace. There s
not a single one of us however who shouldn t be here. We each have our own reason for being.
We are each a part of life and shouldn t ever feel apart from it. We are needed. Why then is there
so much struggle? So much competition. Such a great need for supremacy and righteousness.
Many of us squander what we have here hoping for something better around the corner or
perhaps in the next life. Paradise is here, all around us all of the time, well it is in theory at least.
I m fortunate to live in a part of the world which allows me freedoms. The freedom to live as I
choose. The freedom to write posts without having to worry about people turning up, taking away
my basic rights to express myself and hauling me off to some murky prison cell to languish and
perhaps make me doubt my very existence. Even if that were the case, someone somewhere would

Economic definitions of productivity usually centre on its wealth creating potential. Language such
as satisfying market needs and maximizing input/output relationships are typical.
Productivity centers in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia talk of productivity being a state of mind
and the will to continually improve the faith in progress. According to the Productivity Committee
of the European Productivity Agency, mind set is the most fundamental factor in achieving
productivity growth where productivity is defined as an attitude of mind that strives for and
achieves the habit for improvement as well as the system and sets of practices that translate that
attitude into action.
The more sophisticated definitions address directly the involvement of all the resources or factors
of production that are available and generate measures of total factor productivity.
Strong linkages exist between total factor productivity and the financial performance of individual
organizations. High levels of total factor productivity will lead to high (and sustainable) levels of
profitability. Other definitions refer specifically to the relationship between output and labour, or
labour productivity since the link between labour

Religious Sensitivities Between Religion And Art Beckons...
Religious Sensitivities
And
Art
Savannah Lewis
Many artists have broken old traditions by allowing a shroud of their faith and many others have
not needed or intended to do so. The clash between religion and art beckons controversy and the
wrath of family and community. Despite the sensitivities, ideas, or faiths of any given group or
person, religion should not create taboo stipulations on any type of art. [1a] The word taboo On the
one hand it means to us sacred, consecrated: but on the other hand it means, uncanny, dangerous,
forbidden, and unclean. [1b] The question is where is the line drawn that separates what artwork
can and can t be show without upsetting the public?
The taboo restrictions are different from religious or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a part of the exhibit Beware, Religion! that opened at the Andrei Sakharov Museum in
Moscow. This is one of 4 renderings, two digital prints and 2 acrylic on canvas paintings. This
digital print mixes the modern pop art logo of Coca Cola with an image of Jesus. It is one of the
modern poster children for a stand against consumerism. The controversy jams the gears because of
the fact that it is taboo , meshing a religious icon with a logo that isn t habitually associated with
religion immediately turns into something perceived as disrespectful.
Another example of controversial art is Piss Christ by Andres Serrano. It is a photo of a crucifix
submerged in Serrano s urine. Protesters stated that in this work Serrano had desecrated something
sacred by not showing appropriate respect for Christ. But with so many different religions and
denominations how can one pinpoint what is and what isn t the appropriate respect for Christ?
Further dissection of this piece might lead one to believe it lacked respect for the Christian faith.
A final example of controversial art is Yo Mama s Last Supper by RenГ©e Cox; this 5 (31 x 31 )
panel photo shows Cox nude posed as Jesus, from Leonardo Da Vinci s Last Supper, surrounded
by 12 fully clothed male disciples, all of them Black with the exception of Judas, who was white.
This was obviously very controversial due to the fact that there s

AN INVESTIGATION TO FIND THE EFFECT OF BILE SALTS OF ON THE DIGESTION OF
LIPIDS
I have investigated that if there is an effect of bile salts on the digestion of lipids in the milk.
When lipids are broken down in to fatty acids and glycerol (see below), the acid lowers the pH of
the mixture. To help me determine and measure the digestion of lipids, a pH indicator
phenolphthalein has been used to measure the pH of the mixtures. The pH indicator will change the
colour from pink to either white (if bile is not contained) or brown (if bile is contained), this will
indicate that the solution is changing from alkaline to acidic. So if I want to use phenolphthalein, I
will have to firstly make the mixtures alkaline. This will be achieved by ... Show more content on

Case Study Of Euphorbia
An unusual case of Euphorbia.tirucalli sap poisoning
ABSTRACT: Euphorbia .tirucalli sap is extremely irritating to the skin and mucosa .on accidental
exposure it causes vesication in the skin and inflammation involving eye sight in the eyes. On oral
ingestion, it acts as an irritant, causing vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions and coma. It is used as a
local irritant application for procuring criminal abortion, but rarely for homicidal and suicidal
purposes.
We came across a case of oral consumption of sap of Euphorbia .tirucalli for suicidal purpose.
Patient responded to supportive treatment and recovered over a week without any sequalae. This
case highlights the fact that, even though Euphorbia .tirucalli sap poisoning is very rare, these

Euphorbia tirucalli (E.tirucalli) is also known as Indian Tree Sponge, Milk Hedge, Fire stick Plant,
Pencil tree (2).
Euphorbium is an acrid milky juice exuded from stems of various euphorbius plants belonging to
Euphorbiaceae. The toxic part is latex. Toxins differ based on species (1).The latex of E.trucalli
contains poly cyclic diterpene esters (3).
The latex on oral ingestion acts as an irritant causing vomiting, diarrhea, burning sensation in the
abdomen, convulsion and coma. Irritant toxins indirectly stimulate contraction of the
gastrointestinal smooth muscles by mechanical irritation. Skin exposure produces an irritant
dermatitis and ocular exposure causes an irritant keratoconjuctivitis. Our patient had gastro
intestinal symptoms (vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain).Management includes symptomatic
and supportive care (1). In Europe veterinary practitioner used this sap as vesicant. One to four
drops of the juice is used as a purge. Twig of the plant is used as a local irritant for procuring

Kaz II is a catamaran that was found drifting of the northern coast of Australia on April 2007.
The fate of her crew is still unknown, and the circumstances in which they disappeared can be
compared to that of Marie CГ©leste as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle fictionally refers it to). The Kaz II
started its journey from Airlie Beach on Aprill 2007, going towards Townsville on the first part of a
journey that was supposed to take it around the northern part of Australia to the western part of the
country. On the catamaran were Derek Batten, the owner, and his neighbours, the siblings Peter and
James Tunstead. Three days later after the departure, a helicopter spotted the boat and reported that

In a drawer additional ammunition of the same caliber was found. A video recording that
showed footage taken by the crew during the trip was found. It revealed some clues as to the
men s last day. The last footage recorded by James Tunstead at 10:05 am on the 15th of April,
shortly before the men disappeared, showed, among other things: Fenders were hanging from
the safety rails on both sides of the boat, choppy sea and none of the men wearing a life jacket,
Mr. Tunstead s shirt and sunglasses were in a diferent place than where they were later found.
Several explanations have been formulated for the crew s disappearance. But the one that lights
up my thrill seeking vein is the one that Hope Himing, niece of Derek Batten has pointed out.
Hope said: The fenders were out on their yacht, and the only reason you ever put them out is
when another boat comes aside or if you come to rest against a wharf. Suggesting that the Kaz II
may have docked with another as yet unknown vessel to which the crew might have voluntarily,

together since they were 18 years old, and were radio operators of the Volunteer Sea Rescue. The
last known contract of the family with any of the crew was made one and a half hours after it left
the port, when one of the crew members was contacted by his wife. Ivan Ormes, Volunteer radio
operator, recorded that the Kaz II checked in

The Performance Appraisal Process Is Defined As The...
The performance appraisal process is defined as the process which a manager (1) examines and
evaluates an employee s work behavior by comparing it with preset standards, (2) documents the
results of the comparison, and (3) uses the results to provide feedback to the employee to show
where improvements are needed and why (Business Dictionary, 2015). Performance appraisals
are used to determine who needs what training, and who will be promoted, demoted, retained, or
fired within organizations (Business Dictionary, 2015). Performance appraisals have changed
over time (Glen, 1990). The BARS or behaviorally anchored rating scales evaluated employee
traits such as reliability and cooperation (Glen, 1990). This system was later replaced by a
management by objectives which sets performance objectives and appraised (Glen, 1990). More
recently this was replaced by the merit pay and pay for performance systems (Glen, 1990). All the
appraisal system attempt to maximize objectivity while minimizing uncertainty and subjectivity
(Glen, 1990). Performance appraisals are often viewed as a no win situation by both managers and
employees (Glen, 1990). Managers view performance appraisals as their job to provide
performance feedback and motivate employees in order to drive individual and organizational
improvements (Glen, 1990). Employees see performance appraisals as the means to an increased
income, improved skills through developmental training and promotional opportunities (Glen,

Gender Discrimination In Nursing
Today, most people perceive nursing as a women profession. Men who enter this field have been
looked at as outcasts. Many individuals feel that a man does not belong in a female profession. I
believe that statement to be untrue and unfair. The issue of gender discrimination in nursing is the
same as any other professions. The only difference is nursing is dominated by women, and men are
the minority fighting for equality. My goal in this paper is to help you understand why I m arguing
that men should be welcomed in the nursing profession. Genderor sex discriminationinvolves
treating an employee or a category of employees differently because of gender. Whenever this
discrimination affects the terms or conditions of employment, it is illegal. Gender based different
treatment of employees with regard to pay, title, position, hours worked and vacation time is
generally considered illegal and wrong. Just 2.7 percent of the working nursing population in the
United States are men. To understand why nursing is dominated by women we have to analyze the
history. Malenurses may belong, but there s still not many around. According to the U.S. Labor
Department statistics, 6.7 percent of registered nurses were male. Gender discrimination in
nursing exists because of prejudices male students encounter in the classroom, in the workplace
and with patients. Over the years discrimination of males in the nursing has declined but just like
racial discrimination it still exists. To understand gender discrimination in nursing we must first
understand the past. Nursing was found in the 3rd century in ancient Rome and was dominated
by men. Since the 20th century women have dominated the nursing profession. Actually, in the
1897 American Nurse Association was founded, and no men were allowed. The rule eventually
changed in 1930, allowing men the right to be a nurse. Are male nurses accepted by female
nurses? I feel like if you are in the nursing profession and don t understand that there is a shortage
of nurses in the world then it shouldn t matter if they are male or female. Every gender should be
accepted. The require for male nurses is on a rise, partly because there is a growing demand for
nurses in general. That also

Hallucinogens Effective For Therapeutic
Hallucinogens effective for Therapeutic in Addiction Treatment
Hallucinogens are drugs that produce hallucinations which produce distortions in a person s

Research on Ibogaine as a treatment for addiction started in New York City in 1962 by Howard
Lotsof.
Ibogaine doses ranging from 0.14 to 19mg/kg were given to heroin dependent group and they
experienced an unexpected elimination of the physical symptoms of opioid withdrawal. In 1980,
Lotsof received a US patent for using Ibogaine in opioid dependence and many countries like,
France, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovinia,, Panama, Mexica, Canada and South Africa
used Ibogaine in nonmedical settings (Alper, 2007). Ibogain is used to reduce or eliminate the
addiction to opioids, and to alleviate the symptoms of opioids withdrawal. It is also used in treating
dependence on cocaine, and other stimulants, alcohol, nicotine, and polysubstance abuse (Bastiaans,
2004).
Experiences of patients who are treated with Ibogaine consist of three stages: acute, evaluative and
residual stimulation. Acute phase starts within an hour of taking the ibogaine, their physical
changes, and patients lose coordination and feel the need to lie down. It relates to visual
experiences like dreams rather than hallucination and visual experiences ranges from
autobiographical, life narratives, themes relating to prehistory and evolution and sometimes surreal
or comical cartoon like images. But visual phenomenon from Ibogaine varies due to doses and they
cannot recall the visual images afterwards (Alper, 2007). In the evaluative phase, which

Durkheim Prohibition Of Religion
Durkheim goes more into depth of rites and prohibitions of religions but, he also goes into depth
about magic. We see cults where people have worshipped objects in a sacred way but, there are
cults that do the opposite of committing sacred acts, these cults are called negative cults. Negative
cults do not mandate obligations to be carried out by the faithful , they just prohibit certain ways of
acting (304). However, that does not mean they do not follow prohibition; all religions and cults go
by taboo. Taboo is a term most commonly used in languages like Polynesia, which means, to denote
the institution in accordance with which certain things are withdrawn from ordinary use; it is also
an expression that expresses the distinctive characteristic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He must withdraw from the society where he has spent his life until then, and from virtually all
human society. He is not only forbidden to see women and uninitiated men, but he goes to live
in the bush, far from his peers, under the supervision of a few old men serving as godfathers. So
much is the forest considered his natural milieu that, in quite a few tribes, the word for initiation
means that which is of the forest. For the same reason, the novice is often decorated with leaves
during the ceremonies he attends. In this way, he spends long months punctuated from time to
time by rites in which he must participate. For him, this is a time for every sort of abstinence. He
is forbidden a great many foods, and he is allowed to only as much food as is strictly necessary to
sustain life. Indeed, rigorous fasting is often obligatory, or her is made to eat disgusting food. When
he eats, he must not touch the food with his hands; his godfathers put it in his mouth. .

INTRODUCTION At its height, the ancient Assyrian Empire stretched from the north in the
upper Tigris river valley, south to the northern tip of the Persian Gulf including Babylon, along
the Mediterranean Sea from Tarsus to Jerusalem and all the way down into Egypt to the city of
Thebes. This vast empire took several thousand years to build. Early settlements can be traced
back to the northern city of Nineveh around 5000 B.C. The success of this nearly 2000 year
empire had a lot to do with the way the rulers divided up the empire into states with local
governors; a radical idea during that time. The advances they made in the area of science and

For the most part, these common people felt that their lives improved greatly under Assyrian
rule. CONQUERORS The Assyrians were considered brutal conquerors that conducted their
wars with shocking ferocity. The leaders of these conquered cities were often interrogated,
tortured, mutilated and then finally killed. Everyone seemed to be generally frightened by the
Assyrians when they saw them on the horizon. Although their military and usurping tactics were
greatly feared, they never conquered a civilization to destroy it. They were in the business of
acquiring cultures to enrich their dynasty. They would conquer an area, secure it and start
setting up local government. The government would be responsible for re educating the subjects
in their newly acquired heritage. This gave these subjects a sense of belonging and pride. This
also allowed for the greatest achievement of the Assyrian Empire; the cultural unification of the
Middle East. Not an easy task as can be seen today by the turbulent violence and unrest. The
Assyrians were very viscous to any group who revolted and tried to fight against them. There are
several horrific stories of piles of bodies being stacked and left to rot at the front gates of the cities

Cat s Cradle Dialectical Journal
Book Selection #1 (from the Grade 9 Required Reading List with an asterisk): Cat s Cradle
(1) Although there are many different parts of the satirical novel, Cat s Cradle that I would like to
discuss, the ending really sticks out to me as a major part of the book. In my opinion, Kurt
Vonnegut wrapped up his fictional commentary perfectly. The last chapter of the 287 page novel
differed from the rest of the story. In this last chapter, titled just, The End, the narrator changes
from John to Bokonon for the first time. Bokonon, in this final chapter, sat on a rock wearing only
a white bedspread. He was trying to finish the Books of Bokonon as the world itself was coming to

The whole book itself is confusing. John starts off the novel writing his own book titled the Day
the World Ended. As you read the book, at least as I read it, I kept remembering that this is a
book inside of a book so to speak, and to think of it as a historical account of fictitious events. This
is a very hard and confusing thing to do because you cannot just read the book through; you have to
think about each line, and frankly each word you read. Although this is very hard to do, it helps you
understand the greater meaning in this satirical commentary, something you have to look for in all
of Kurt Vonneguts many stories.
(3) This novel is a 10 out of 10 in my opinion. The story that Vonnegut writes is not only
intriguing but also relevant to the world we live in. Vonnegut created a whole fictionalized world
with San Lorenzo; even it s own language and most importantly religion. Bokonon, the main
religion of the San Lorenzan people is fascinating. Lionel Boyd Johnson, a.k.a Bokonon, created a
religion that, although it is based fully on lies, it is very relevant. What is sacred to Bokononism? I

Similarities Between Jazz And Hip Hop
Jazz and Hip Hop
Jazz and hip hop, two forms of music born out of the historical and social struggles of the African
American culture. Jazz finds its origins in New Orleans, Louisiana, uniting military music with
ragtime, Creole and European traditions, and finally the blues, with its painful history of slavery
and racial abuse. Hip Hop however born out of the streets of New York City, reflecting on the
treacherous gang violence and social inequalities for inner black kids. Most would say that hip hip
is somewhat of a grandchild to jazz. Whether it is or not, both constantly deal with racial issues,
finding their roots and icons in the African American culture.

The looping and use of breaks in hip hop definitely maybe the main difference between the two
genres. These techniques were used to satisfy the audience. The pauses in the music when the
MC or DJ talked to the crowd made the hip hop scene a lot more enjoyable. Lots of
documentaries on Netflix show this particular era. The first hip hop pioneers, such as DJ Kool
Herc, realized that in the parties they were throwing in the Bronx, playing disco and funk music,
people were responding very well to how he played the music. These technics were born out of an
effort to isolate these bits of music that were thrilling the crowd, and repeat them in order to make
the parties more fun. This is where we see the difference between the enjoyment of jazz and hip
hop. Jazz improvisators build up to reach ultimate, thrilling levels of music. Try to listen to Coltrane
s legendary Acknowledgment, starting in the middle of the solo, you might feel a little lost and not
enjoy the intensity of the tune as much as you might if you had listened to the whole piece.
Hip Hop does not have this patience. Much younger than jazz, living in New York City, where
everything goes fast and the youth lives at a hundred miles per hour, there is no time to sit down
and let the music build up to a thrilling climax. Hip hop unleashes the thrill at the first second. It
finds the sound bite that people love and bang it, repeat it with a

The Federal Reserve: A Knight in Shining Armor

The credit system of the country had ceased to operate, and thousands of firms went into
bankruptcy (Born...,.12). Something had to be done that would provide for a flexible amount
of currency as well as provide cohesion between banks across the United States. (Hepburn, 399)
This knight in shining armor, as described in the story of the bank run, was the Federal Reserve.
The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 helped to establish banks as a united force working for the
people instead of independent agencies working against each other. By providing a flexible
amount of currency, banks did not have to hoard their money in fear of a bank run. Because of
this, there was no competitive edge to see who could keep the most currency on hand and a more
expansionary economy was possible.
The evolution of the Federal Reserve did not begin on December 23, 1913 with the passage of the
Federal Reserve Act. Rather, it began with the Banking Panic of 1907, the most severe of the four
national banking panics that had occurred in the precious thirty four years.
In response to this panic, a committee was established to find the flaws of the current banking
system. This committee, the National Monetary Commission, found there were two main flaws
dominating the system. First, the currency was not responsive to changes in demand. (Born...13).
This meant that the bank had a fixed amount of currency, regardless of the

expand their business by choosing the next location abroad for a new start up site. Glass
Etching Incorporated has been in business since August of 2003 and currently provides services
within the United States. The business was originally created in the home of its owners, Tom
and Heidi Morgan. Tom and Heidi started this business by selling their products online through
various forms of social media websites and buying and selling sites, such as EBay. The products
offered by GEI include an array of glassware items to choose from, in which, these items are then
sand blasted (etched) with a specific illustrated design, letters, and/or wording, chosen by the
customer. These products are then expedited to the customer. The company s mission is to
provide high quality etched artwork and design on glassware. Also, the company s purpose is to
provide a one of a kind product for the customer, priced reasonably and competitively and to have
the business be solely conducted online by means of electronic commerce. With the momentum of
the company s progress, profit and popularity, the Morgan s decided it was time to expand and

reform, or an attempt to improve upon issues in society, occurred in America during the mid 1800
s. Reform movements such as public education and women s rights both made essential impacts on
American Society. One of the many changes in the Age of Reform was the reform of public
education. The first schools were built for religious purposes, but during this period, the reformers

Originally, the rights of American women were minor. Women could not vote, serve on juries, or
attend colleges among other restrictions. Women like Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton
fought long and hard for civil, religious, and social rights of American women. Stanton wrote the
Declaration of Sentiments which was modeled after the Declaration of Independence. This
declaration demanded equality of men and women. Women s suffrage, or the right to vote, was
another struggle for the women to overcome. These women did win some small victories such as
convincing New York to pass a law protecting women s property rights, and some states even
began to allow married women to keep their wages. Education also improved for women.
American schools were focused on educating boys, who would grow up to be voters, so Emma
Willard started The Troy Female Seminary. Eventually, Mary Lyon built Mount Holyoke Female
Seminary, which was the first college for women, although it was not called a college at the time.
Even though education improved for women, it would not be until 1920 that a constitutional

Discontentment In The Sun Also Rises
While Faulkner writes with complex, disorganized sentences, and Hemingway writes more simply,
both unique author s distinctive styles capture the feeling of discontentment in their fictional
characters, such as Jake, in The Sun Also Rises, and Darl in, As I Lay Dying, by supplying
insight on their daily life and the environment surrounding them. While Jake s discontentment is
caused by a war wound, and Darl s sadness is created by his mother s death, Jake tries to conceal
his emotions while Darl chooses to confront his issues directly. In, The Sun Also Rises, Jake Barnes
is described as being physically damaged because of a war wound that impaired him during WWI.

Comparing Donatello s David And Goliath
The story of David and Goliath is inspirational. It is about a courageous shepherd called David,
who s rescued Israel by defying a colossal giant called Goliath and killing him with a slingshot and
a bag of stone rocks. Donatello and Gianlorenzo Bermini made each a sculpture showing David.
Each sculpture differs from each other starting with material, size, and style. One important thing to
consider is the material used to create these statues. Donatello s Davidis nude and made of bronze.
Definitely, Donatello made it to history with this first male free standing statue that was entirely
unsupported, also Donatello captured the emotions in the statue. Whereas, Bernini s David is
half clothed and made of Marble, also the energy seen on donatello s David is not projected on
bermini s David. Bermini was more of an action men, and projected David with an ideal body.
Donatello s David is shown more weak and incapable of causing the killing of a giant. I would say

Moby Dick By Herman Melville
Moby Dick by Herman Melville is a tale of many things, and has become perhaps one of the most
widely known revenge stories ever told, wherein the mad Captain Ahab chases the titular white
whale to the ends of the earth, willing to sacrifice everything for revenge. The novel is known
for its extensive symbolism and abstract or open ended meaning. Many people find different
meanings in the story, and the debate over what certain elements mean has been a point of
contention since the novel was published. The criticisms and analyses by Randall Bass and R.C.
Sproul give great insight into the most symbolic element of the plot, the whale itself. The whale
Moby Dick may mean many things, including the other to the self , God, or, as I believe, the
unknowable, inscrutable, and ineffable of the world. Both criticisms agree on one element of the
story: the white whale, Moby Dick, means more than it is. The whale is symbolic of something
unknown, feared, or hated. Any serious analysis of the novel will agree with this, but with many
different interpretations, a few of which are more widely supported than others. The interpretation
of what the whale symbolizes is where the criticisms diverge. Bass claims the conflict between
Ahab and the whale to be the conflict between the self and the other , respectively. Sproul
disagrees, favoring the somewhat widely held theory that the conflict is of a man against God.
Both analyses of the whale s symbolic meaning have validity and a

Dance A Sport
Is Dance Considered a Sport? Three laps around the gym, minute long planks, crunches, sit ups,
and pushups in a matter of thirty minutes. As a dancer, experiencing and realizing the strength that
needs to be present in order for an athlete to grow is vital. We go through long hours of
choreography sessions, pain and strain on our bodies, and vigorous training. Many people will
disagree on the status of if danceis a sport or not. Both Mary Elizabeth Esquibel, in her article Why
Dance Will Always Be a Sport and the infographic entitled Is Dance a Sport? attack this
controversial dilemma. Even though these arguments use different formats, they use rhetoric
similarly.
In Esquibel s article, she battles with the use of ethos. Her article is created on a site called The
Odyssey , which is a tool for college students to upload essays. Many people would argue the fact
the Mary Elizabeth isn t credible because she doesn t pertain a profession or have a degree in the
works of which she s talking about such as dance. If she was trying to convince the audience
with her own words, it should not be biased based on her own experiences. The article reads, I
was a competitive dancer for 13 years and I know the strength and grace that dancers must have
while dealing with the pain and strain that their bodies are going through ( Esquibel 1). This may

Comedy Of Manners Analysis
The comedy of manners is a genre of comedy that became established on the English stage during
the Restoration period. It can be said that the English comedy of manners started with George
Etherege, second would be William Congreve (Palmer 2). Their plays focused on the behavior of
people in a society and the feigned values that they cared about ( Comedyof Manners 1). These men
constructed realism in their plays keeping their writings authentic and unique while also putting the
comedy on stage as close to reality as possible, to show general life of time, its movements, its
amusements, its general conceptions, were mirrored upon stage (Dobree 26 29). They used their

Comedy of Manners has became well known and grown widespread over many periods in
theatre history. Most theatrical genres begins in a certain era but spans upon many periods only
if the works of later playwrights successfully tries to restore them which didn t happen a lot.
English theatres were closed down between 1642 and 1660 when Oliver Cromwell and the
Puritans conquered England and there was no aristocracy. In 1660 King Charles II took the throne
and one of his first actions was to grant several key theatrical figures licenses to produce plays and
breathe life into the theatre once more.
Most of the writers wrote about things that they were passionate about or things that were popular
during the time. To provide some examples, George Etherege has been called the actual founder
of English comedy of manners (Palmer 31). Etherege described himself as being lazy and too
careless to be ambitious, so he decided to write plays for his own enjoyment and for entertainment
(Dobree 60). Etherege wrote Sir Fopling Flutter (1676), which is about a young aristocrat that takes
place in London during the Restoration period who tries to win the affection

The play focuses on the romance of the mind and the body. Remarked by early reviewers to be
similar to Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, Tom Stoppard had excelled in this field and gives a
glimpse of his theatrical genius with Arcadia.
Arcadia covers the two different ages the early nineteenth century and the present modern world,
matched, juxtaposed together bringing in a rare combination of the different facets of Classicism
and Romanticism. The two timelines talk about sex, literature, love, epistemology, landscaping, the
Second Law of Thermodynamics and the romance. Stoppard s intellect looms large over the plot
of the play and is efficiently presented in the form of this play. It is a two act play containing
seven scenes. The characters belonging to the early nineteenth century are Septimus, Thomasina,
Mr. and Mrs. Chater, Lady Croom, Captain Brice, Mr. Richard Noakes. Hannah Jarvis, Valentine,
Bernard, Gus and Chloe are the characters belonging to the present modern world. Thomasina

is driven not only by intellectual knowledge but by sexual desires also. Although Lady Croom tells

Of course a prospective sunk cost is different and, as we mentioned earlier, would certainly affect
the firm s decisions looking forward.
How do we know which costs are fixed and which are variable?
Over a very short time horizon say, a few months most costs are fixed.
Over such a short period, a firm is usually obligated to pay for contracted shipments of materials.
Over a very long time horizon say, ten years nearly all costs are variable.
Workers and managers can be laid off (or employment can be reduced by attrition), and much of
the machinery can be sold off or not replaced as it becomes obsolete and is scrapped.

Organ Donation Essay
As organs continue to fail in the bodies of hundreds of thousands of people, the demand for them
has increased, while the ability to easily acquire them has decreased. Many men, women and
children are struggling to live due to an unhealthy organ that resides in them, so the demand for a
replacement organbecomes critical. With a lack of people willing to donate their organs,
individuals will soon be getting compensated to do so, which will increase the willingness of
people to donate, giving those in need the chance to live. Even the families of the deceased will
be compensated if any part of their body was donated. In addition to the increase of donations,
organs will soon be grown from the stem cells of a patient, as well as be printed from a three
dimensional bioprinter.
When a person decides to donate their organs, it should not be taboo to expect some form of
payment in return. Every year, the number of people who need an organ transplant grows and are
added to the national transplant waiting list, monitored by UNOS. As of November 2017, more

Marie De France Composed A Works Of The French Aquitanian...
From the works of the French Aquitanian and Champagnian troubadours, the framework/ideals of
fin amour grew and spread throughout Europe, reaching the courts of Britain. As the conception of
fin amour became increasingly popular amongst the literature of the aristocracy, writers such as,
Andreas Capellanus wrote of the stages and rules of courtly love. Inspired by this movement in the
culture and literature of court, the poet Marie de Francecomposed a collection of romantic lays. In
the Breton Lays , Marie presents her narratives as a guide for courtly lovers. For, each lay
exhibits the problems, consequences, and rewards that can occur if a lady or knight does/or does
not follow the three principles of fin amour which, as explained by the scholars Jeri S. Guthrie
(1976) and F.R.P Akehurst (1995), include mezura (to have self restraint and patience in love, to
have discretion within an affair), joven (to be spontaneous in love, to woo with grand gestures and
gifts), and cortezia (to follow the moral and societal rules of court).
The first standard of courtly love Marie de France presents within The Breton Lays is mezura.
Through the narratives of Lanval and Yonec , Marie reinforces the importance mezura plays in
maintaining a courtly affair; she shows that being open about a relationship can lead to disaster. In
the story of Lanval , Lanval breaks the principle of mezura by rashly exposing his affair with the
amie to Queen Guinevere. When Guinevere propositions

Peter the Great ruled 1689 and 1725 continuing many cultural aspects of Russia, but making
changes and further advancing the state. Peter traveled to Western Europe incognito to
westernize Russia further and brought back hundreds of artisans from Europe and educated
himself in Western science and technology. An example of a change in culture to westernize by
Peter was the abolition of the whip giving practice. In upper class marriages it was customary for
the father of the bride to give the groom a whip, symbolizing the control of men over women.
This change in Russian illustrates how drastic a change was necessary for Russia to westernize
and it is likely many people were not accepting of this change as it had been engrained in Russian

Experiential Learning Paper
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate my experiential learning of personal and social
adjustments when confronted with life changing events and the mechanisms utilized to effectively
cope from traumatic experiences. The components supporting this piece include: confronting the
problem, learning to adapt and cope, cultivating self worth, the importance of a support system and
over time change influencers. To support my understanding of personal and social adjustments, I
will use the content of this paper to speak as evidence of my experiential learning derived from
confronting a long term spiritual abuse situation and process of unraveling and coping from its
affects. Confronting the Problem When I was thirteen, my family and I started... Show more content

His leadership became oppressive and extracted any self will and identity we possessed,
requiring the yielding of complete blind submission (also known as faith and obedience) to his
spiritual authority over our life. Intuition and discernment are natural to my reflective nature and
my gut instinct is usually right ninety nine percent of the time; however, this innate ability was
gradually silenced under his leadership because questioning meant we were rebellious and
disobedient resulting in being out of the favor and will of God. At least that is what his
leadership taught his; therefore, I learned to suppress my innate instincts until I know longer
recognized how much of me was me and how much of me was him. If I dared to pursue a
passion, it required his approval regardless of whether it was related or unrelated to the church.
For example: he taught us that if we were contemplating any major purchases such as a car or

Cultural Impact On Cross-Cultural Communication
Introduction
When a company starts to do business in a foreign country, there are often many business practices
that are different and difficult to understand. Cross cultural communication refers to communication
conducted by people from different ethnic, social or gendered backgrounds, that is, communication
between people who do not share the common linguistic or cultural values. Through identifying
some most important influential factors in cross cultural communication, the paper points out some
steps and sugestions which can be use to make a successful meeting between an Australian young
business women and a traditional Japanese manager and discusses how those factors can lead to
cross cultural communication failures. After that, it provides solutions for main types of cross
cultural communication breakdown and strategies for enhancing effective communication. Finally,
the paper ends with a restatement of the main points, which is also the conclusion part.
Influential factors on cross cultural communication
Socio cultural influence
An important factor which also influences cross cultural communication is the socio cultural effect.
From the meaning of culture mentioned above, it is not difficult to see that socio cultural influence
is crucial to a successful cross cultural communication. Gumperz (2002) once wrote that ...socio
cultural assumptions concerning role and status relationships as well as socialvalues associated
with various message components also play an

Comparing To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet 138 by William Shakespeare
I am comparing To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell (1640) and Sonnet 138 by William
Shakespeare (1590). The similarities between both poems are that they both use a certain amount
of syllables throughout each poem. To His Coy Mistress uses 8 syllables per line, and Sonnet 138
uses 10 syllables per line. Another obvious similarity is that they both end with a couplet. They
both also tell a story. The differences in the poems are that To His Coy Mistress is arguing why
they should get on with life, and Carpe diem whereas Sonnet 138 is telling us about how he doesn t

Essay On Symbolism In Tangerine
Similar to many other novels, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor is filled with symbolism. The author
uses symbols as a more unseen way to infuse hidden messages or lessons into the story. Although it
is greatly instilled everywhere throughout the book, there is quite a bit of symbolism surrounding
and focusing on Erik Fisher. The main antagonist in this novelis Erik Fisher, Paul s older brother;.
He always gets what he wants, whether he deserves it or not. He s a your basic popular, football
star; athletic, self centered and overly praised. But, Paul is the only one who sees him as he
truly is. His parents coaches and peers perceive him as this amazing athlete, but that, by no
means, defines his true self. I think many can agree that Erik deserves complete humiliation. Not
only readers believe thi9s, but supporting characters in the book such as Antoine Thomas do too.

It states, His front was clean and white, but his back was now filthy. This is Paul s description of
his older brother after his banana flop incident . The author likely added this vivid sentence to

clean, prefect, well rounded student, kid and role model. Mr. Costello, his parents, his friends,
his coaches, they all see him this way. However, Paul really is one of the only ones who sees his

here is that Erik s initial impression on people is the front of his jersey, while his true self is the

Intersectional Framework Of Criminology
of earlier radical feminists, more contemporary feminist criminologists have since argued for a
more intersectional approach for explaining crime and criminal justice processes (Belknap 2001;
Britton 2004; Burgess Proctor 2006; Chesney Lind 2006; Daly 1997; Morash 2006; Potter 2006).
Intersectionality strengthens criminology in many ways. In particular, an intersectional framework
is important because it is applicable to all individuals in that it recognizes how some intersecting
social identities (e.g., white, middle class, men) advantage certain individuals in some respects
while disadvantaging others (e.g., Black, working class, women) (Burgess Proctor 2006). In this
way, a more complete understanding of differences in crime patterns is ... Show more content on

Researchers such as Simpson (1989) and Britton (2004) have noted criminology s narrow use of
intersectional perspectives, focusing mostly on whites and Blacks involvement in crime. Both
scholars have advocated strongly for more research examining other racial and ethnic groups (e.g.,
Asian and Hispanic) and their relationship to crime. Simpson (1989: 619) specifically notes how
feminist criminologists have often relied on an add race and stir method when it came to studies on
gender and crime, assuming that all women have similar experiences. In order to more fully
integrate feminist and intersectional methods into criminological work, feminist criminologists
must recognize that the standpoint of woman is not monolithic, rather they should approach their
research with the understanding that differences among women exist (Burgess Proctor 2006; Daly
and Chesney Lind 1988; Flavin 2004; Simpson

The Stresses that Come with Being a Nurse
Multiple studies over the past twenty plus years have looked at factors affecting the nurse s
workday and the effects it has on them. When an individual first enters a chosen career, he or she
is driven. If the work environment is not encouraging of the individual s efforts and concerns, the
reality of the job and the individual s prospects begin to deviate and frustration and disappointment
happens. (Kerri, 2014) These feelings can bring about job displeasure, resulting in decreased
efficiency, loss of confidence and concentration, and behavior changes. If these circumstances are
not addressed, stressaccumulates and causes typical stress related symptoms. The definite stressors
within the work environment that lead to stress and burnout can be different among occupations
and between individuals within an occupation. The starting place of burnout is in the work
environment, but because not every individuals working in a certain environment will experience
burnout, personal risk factors must have a role in putting the individual at risk for burnout.
Therefore, personality is another important factor to be considered.
Jennings (2010) found that: Neuroticism has been associated with exhaustion. External locus of
control has demonstrated a positive relationship with burnout and stress. Findings are mixed for
hardiness. Evaluations of anxiety reflect a link with stress and burnout. Anxiety is viewed as having
two components state anxiety, the temporary component which manifests

The Theme Of Responsibility In Avi s Nothing But The Truth
Thesis: The author, Avi, shows two themes, truth and responsibility, throughout the novel. In
Nothing But the Truth, Avi makes sure that the reader does not forget these themes. Truth and
responsibility are major lessons that a child should know while growing up. This story shows
that the truth can get out of hand if you don t take responsibility for your actions. Philip Malloy
is known as a good kid. He doesn t act out in class, isn t mean to anyone, and gets pretty good
grades except for Ms. Narwins class. Therefore having a bad grade in her class means that he
cannot try out for the track team. In a conversation between Philip and his father, Philip blames his
bad grade on the teacher and doesn t want to share the truth. I saw your grades.... Show more

Responsibility is a big deal in this book. Philip could have avoided the media and the nation if he
took responsibility for his actions. Philip started humming the national anthem during morning
announcements. Everyday they say Please all rise and stand a respectful, silent attention for the
playing of our national anthem. This has been routine for years. During a conversation between
Dr. Palleni and Philip in the assistants principal s office shows that he could have owned up to
his actions, but decided to stand next to his decision. ...What do you say, Phil, you get up, go
back there, and apologize? To Miss Narwin. Say you ll follow rules. Than, as far as I m
concerned, we forget it. Nothing on your record. What do you say? ... She s wrong. That s all.
She s wrong. No way I m apologizing (61). This conversation proves that Philip did stand up for
himself, but in the wrong way. He was humming the national anthem loudly, but told the
principal he was humming to himself. One final example of responsibility is when Dr. Palleni
was being interviewed by Ms. Stewart and would refuse to talk about his actions. You d didn t
inform your superior, or you didn t suspend the boy for singing The Star Spangled Banner ?
Which? I am simply trying to get my facts straight. Dr. Palleni? Are you still there? I don t wish to
talk to you. No comment? No comment. But you ve got your facts all wrong (93).

Healthcare Comparison of the Usa and Nigeria
Four Main Differences between the healthcare systems in Nigeria and the USA.
Paul Fortune
College of Nursing After living in my native country, Nigeria for nearly twenty years of my life, I
had the opportunity to relocate to the United States of America to live with my Dad while pursuing
a career in Nursing. On getting to the United States of America or the USA as it is commonly
called, I discovered how lovely and different the country really is. The USA was a lot different
from what I had heard from stories back home in Nigeria. The previous three years, since January
2009 to be precise, has provided me first hand experience of some major differences between my
country of origin and the United States of America. In comparison, ... Show more content on

The buses run on a strict schedule most of the time; many are spaced out between every thirty
minutes to an hour. An alternative to riding the bus was catching a cab which was expensive.
This transportation process is very different from Nigeria where there is always a bus or taxi
running by the streets looking for passengers to pick up, most transporting up to four different and
unrelated passengers at the same time. Often the maximum amount of time a person would have
wait to catch either a cab or bus is five minutes. Nigerian cabs usually have a fixed price form one
stop to another, and most of the time prices can be bargained down.
Thirdly, the other major difference in between the United States of America differs from Nigeria is
the Climate. In United States of America there are four seasons in a year namely fall, summer,
spring and winter. Winter starts from December through February, and then comes spring which
starts from March through May, followed by summer from June through august and finally fall
/ autumn which start from September through November. While in Nigeria we have just two
season comprising of the raining and dry season (harmattan). The raining season usually begins
around February or march and last till around September. In September the dry season kick in and
last through January. It snows in United States of America while there has never been a record of
snow in Nigeria.

Something s Got Ta Give By Diane Keaton
In society age is a key aspect in the way people view others and how they communicate, a person
s age sets a tone for the language they use in communication with different groups be it their
peers, elders, or the young. Three aspects of age in society are communication, ability, and
socially constructed stigmas. Many of such aspects are portrayed in the movie Something s Gotta
Give , where a swinger on the cusp of being a senior citizen with a taste for young women falls in
love with an accomplished womancloser to his age. Harry, the soon to be senior citizen is played
by Jack Nicholas and Erica, played by Diane Keaton is an accomplished writer and the mother of
Harry s young companion. The movie makes you stop and think; what does age mean in the
dating world today. In the world of dating many people ask, does age matter? The answer is yes
and no; as many different components come into play. In the movie Somethings Gotta Give ,
Harry dates a younger woman and when he meets her mom she doesn t seem to mind that her
boyfriend is much older than her. An older male and younger woman is accepted in society,
whereas an older woman dating a younger man becomes labeled as a cougar . A man who dates
a younger woman receives no such title, this is socially constructed by the white male dominant
group, as to say it is ok for a man to do it, but when a woman does it, she s a cougar . A man
dating a young woman has been around for centuries and coming from a dominant group the

on erosion and sediment control.
One example of someone who came before, and understood the importance of land conservation

without every piece of the puzzle, we cannot produce a result that serves our companies,

How Does Catullus Poem 64
Poem 64 is one of Catullus most ambitious and complex works. The mini epic comprises of 408
lines, making it the longest poem of all Catullus works. The poem is written in the dactylic
hexameter, the traditional meter of epic poetry. The poem is further told through ekphrasis an
ancient doctrine denoting any poetic or rhetorical description, including descriptions of landscape,
buildings, battles, and storms.
The focal point of this report will be on the content of poem 64 and how it, reflects Catullus
himself and his relationship with Lesbia. Further, I will examine the mirroring of characters and
emotions and ambiguity of the poem as it stands in relation to his other works.

Our first introduction of Ariadne is of her abandonment by Theseus. Ariadne looks on as Theseus
abandons her on the island bearing wild furies in the heart.
Catullus uses the female narrative express his feelings of grief due to his abandonment by Lesbia.
Theseus careless forgetfulness, which in the legend causes his father s mistaken suicide, parallels
the fecklessness of Lesbia.
Surrounding this, there is the perfect wedding of Peleus and Thetis represents a kind of high point
in the age of heroes. Achilles, destined to be born of this match, will distinguish himself chiefly by
his bloodthirstiness (as we learn in the marriage hymn sung by the Fates, 323 81).

The Odyssey
In Homer s epic, The Odyssey, each culture treats strangers and guests with distinct differences
from every other culture. One of the most hospitable cultures was that of the ancient Greeks,
exemplified in Homer s The Odyssey by both gracious hosts and guests. In Greece and The Odyssey
, not only was good hospitality etiquette expected, but the added pressure that if they didn t treat
their guests with respect the gods would punish them further compelled excellent manners. The
Odyssey illustrates the proper etiquette when dealing with guests. In Homer s ancient Greece their

strangers. As a guest, Odysseus is very selfish and inconsiderate towards his hosts. Throughout the
duration of Odysseus absence, the suitors are treated well, and in response to this, they refuse to
leave when asked. The suitors are fed and housed, and after a number of years they overstay their
welcome. In response to this Telemachus, prompted by Athena, informs the suitors that his
father is returning home and they are all to vacate Odysseus home. The suitors, in turn, ignore
him and continue to eat drink and be merry, at the cost of Telemachus and Penelope s household.
What are the consequences of these actions taken by the suitors? Although the primary
consequence is their death, they also lose the hand of Penelope. None of them are able to pass
the test of stringing the bow of Odysseus except Odysseus himself. This is followed by the main
consequence of the suitors execution at the hands of Odysseus and Telemachus. By not
respecting the hospitality given by Penelope, they set the stage for their own deaths. This is
quite possibly a reference to the fact that they saw hospitality as a way to honor the gods; giving
hospitality to a stranger was the same as offering it to a god. Zeus being the god of hospitality,
one of the primary ways to worship this aspect of Zeus godliness was to be hospitable to strangers
and travelers. A

Being the second cause of preventable death in the United States, obesity increases the risk of
numerous adverse health problems including breast cancer, heart disease, type II diabetes,
osteoarthritis, colon cancer, stroke, and more. Obesity is defined as an excess proportion of total

The people who stand in this position believe that an individual should have choices in the items
he or she buy, and be guilt free. In the article Childhood Obesity: A Global Public Health Issue
published in International Journal of Preventive Medicine , writer Amar Kanekar states that the
main cause of childhood obesity in today s public health crisis in both developed and
underdeveloped countries is because of the disproportion between the child s caloric intake and
the calories effectively used for growth/development and physical activities. To these people,
what we eat is not the sole reason of the cause of obesity; genetic, behavioral, and environmental
are all constituents of childhood obesity. Moreover, many health related risks are present when a
child is obese; negative body image and low self esteem inevitably result in psychological and
social issues. Cardiovascular disease, increased cholesterol levels, and high blood pressure are all
possible potential health risks involved and that there is, indeed, preventive programs that help
regulate obesity by educating individuals about healthy nutrition and diseases (Kanekar 2).

  • 2. Colonial Empires Of The New World Colonial Empires of the New World Lea A Bradford Central High School November 9, 2015 4th Period Abstract In my paper I will be discussing the different colonies in the new world. I will talk about the main settlers in the new world including; the Europeans, the Spanish, the Dutch, the French. How these settlers interact will be the main topic of my report. I will also discuss the effect these settlers had on the Indians that lived in the territories they claimed. Empires and Colonies in the New World The first foreign settlers that came to the new world were the Spanish. Many countries seeked trade with Asia but had to go around the tip of Africa to get there. In 1492 the king of Spain at the time King Ferdinand funded the voyage of a Christopher Columbus to sail across the ocean to find a better rout than what was being currently used. While he never set foot in North America he opened the door for English exploration. By the time the English made it over to the new world the Spanish had already explored a lot of North America and encountered three major groups of peoples; the Incans in present day Peru, and the Mayans and Aztecs in present day Mexico and South America. With their exploration they found wealth in the form of gold and silver. They brought guns, horses, and armor that made the local peoples view them as gods. But along with foreign technologies they brought illness. Smallpox, influenza, malaria, measles, typhus and syphilis were transported to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Object Oriented And How It Has Gained Popularity For Cost... Research Question: Object oriented (OO) technology in software design and implementation has gained popularity for cost reduction and quality improvement. Research the concept of OO. In 10 pages ( double spaced, 12 point Times Roman font with 1 inch margins ), explain the evolution of OO, how it differs from procedural programming, why it is more cost effective and how it can improve software quality. The research project will be submitted through Turnitin Be sure to locate at least 6 sources to reference. Cite your sources. Abstract This paper is about the evolution of Object oriented technology in software design and implementation and its role in current market for developing web based products or server side scripting. Many Object oriented languages have come in market but among them companies prefer to use open source OO languages such as Java, C++, C# .NET, and Visual Basic .NET etc. The demand for these languages has increased because the cost of licensing is very less or nothing. As these languages are open source, it easy to find relevant libraries and source code for the developers while developing a product. The cost of the infrastructure such as development IDE s or testing tools are also minimal or available for free. Hence all these factors decrease the cost of developing a product using Object oriented technology. The basic concept of OO language is Objects. An Object is a combination of attributes and behaviors. An object is an entity that contains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Polycystic ovaries syndrome dates back to 1845 where it was described in a French manuscript as being changes in the ovaries . It was called sclerocystic . Polycystic ovaries syndrome is a problem that occurs in with the ovaries. A polycystic ovary is characterized as being a tough, thickened, shiny white covering overlying a layer of many small cysts just under the ovarian surface. (Thatcher, 10). That was the description that was found in the French manuscript and is still being used to this day for doctors to define polycystic ovaries. A wedge resection in... There are many reasons why genetics are very complicated to study. These reasons are listed below. (Thatcher, 44) В·Lack of a universally accepted diagnosis of PCOS В·Outward appearance (phenotype) can be vastly different despite similar genetic constitutions (genotype). В·PCOS patients often come from small families with a limited number of sisters and brothers (sibs) to compare. В·We are not sure what PCOS looks like in the male. В·There has been no specific genetic marker for PCOS. В·Problems in collection of family histories. Males can pass the PCOS gene down through there families just as much as a female can pass it on. There are some males that are more hairy than other males; these males have been shown to carry the PCOS gene. Studies also show that males that carry the PCOS gene are more likely to have a lowered sperm count. It is also mentioned that the males of PCOS are insulin resistant. Miscarriages happen more often among women that have PCOS. Miscarriages happen due to hormonal imbalance but when an altered hormonal environment makes Chivalier 5 the risk of a miscarriage more likely to occur. • 5. Malpractice And Malpractice Of A Healthcare Organization EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This paper will be discussing tort as it relates to negligence and malpractice in a healthcare organization. It will try explain how negligence and malpractice drive up the cost of healthcare and how there has been a clamor tort reform, what would be the content of the reform and the expected outcome. Lastly the essay would prove to us that there is no indication since tort reform has been implemented, that points to a reduction in the cost of healthcare and the cost of running a healthcare organization in relation to paying high malpractice insurance. TORT Tort is a civil wrong for which a court of law provides remedy for a civil wrong that has been committed against an individual, Remedy could be sought for a personal loss, financial loss, and personal injury (Smith, 1993). A tort is simply the Norman word for a wrong but torts have typically been distinguished from crimes and from wrongs identified with contractual relations. Tort law, then, is concerned with civil wrongs not arising from contracts (White, 2003, p.xxiii).During the very early years of tort been introduced in to legal discourse and proceeding, tort was considered as a wrong that came by way or forceful damage or hurt. It was widely regarded both as a civil wrong and a criminal during those early years, civil wrongs can be classified as a wrong that involves no violence and also a wrong that involves an element of force and violence (Street, 1906). • 6. The Discovery Of The New World The discovery of the New World brought many irreversible changes not only for the European countries, but to the natives of the land that was being discovered. The sense of exploration began expanding more and more among the European powers. Every time the explorers invaded, they would be more avaricious and aggressive against the natives of the land. Along with diseases and inhumane treatments, the European powers also brought education to the uneducated crowds of areas such as India, Africa, and China. The main intention of the foreign powers was to Europeanize the natives of these lands and enslave them into doing the European s dirty work. To attain such results, the Europeans tried converting the natives lifestyles completely. These conversions ranged from substituting the natives religionwith Christianity, to the way they labored, and to the way they portrayed themselves. All the changes the natives had to go through, are clearly seen in excerpts of Feng Guifen, Afghani, and Gandhi. Each of these men describe the different aspects changed by the Europeans, for instance Feng Guifen describes the education system brought by the Europeans and how that affected Asia. Afghani describes the input of science in Islam, while Gandhi describes the cold heartedness that has spread among the natives and how they have become civilized. The emergence of the European powers on territories such as Asia became visible especially in education. Once Europeans began taking over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. An Essay About The World Of The Black, White, And Die Out... So many tribes. So many factions. Straight, queer. Black, white. Male, Female. Tall, short. Fat, thin. Happy, unhappy. Trapped, free. Oppressed, Liberated. Doubting, self assured. Old, young. Birthing, dying. Wasted, realised. So many lives, so many stories. Some reach fruition, while others are stifled never fulfilling their fullest potentials. Some of us are born into privilege and yet others live and and die out on the street. For the vast majority of us however, we are born, we live what is termed an average life and we die. We become markers in a field someplace. There s not a single one of us however who shouldn t be here. We each have our own reason for being. We are each a part of life and shouldn t ever feel apart from it. We are needed. Why then is there so much struggle? So much competition. Such a great need for supremacy and righteousness. Many of us squander what we have here hoping for something better around the corner or perhaps in the next life. Paradise is here, all around us all of the time, well it is in theory at least. I m fortunate to live in a part of the world which allows me freedoms. The freedom to live as I choose. The freedom to write posts without having to worry about people turning up, taking away my basic rights to express myself and hauling me off to some murky prison cell to languish and perhaps make me doubt my very existence. Even if that were the case, someone somewhere would be caring enough to appeal for my conviction to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Economic definitions of productivity usually centre on its wealth creating potential. Language such as satisfying market needs and maximizing input/output relationships are typical. Productivity centers in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia talk of productivity being a state of mind and the will to continually improve the faith in progress. According to the Productivity Committee of the European Productivity Agency, mind set is the most fundamental factor in achieving productivity growth where productivity is defined as an attitude of mind that strives for and achieves the habit for improvement as well as the system and sets of practices that translate that attitude into action. The more sophisticated definitions address directly the involvement of all the resources or factors of production that are available and generate measures of total factor productivity. Strong linkages exist between total factor productivity and the financial performance of individual organizations. High levels of total factor productivity will lead to high (and sustainable) levels of profitability. Other definitions refer specifically to the relationship between output and labour, or labour productivity since the link between labour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Religious Sensitivities Between Religion And Art Beckons... Religious Sensitivities And Art Savannah Lewis Many artists have broken old traditions by allowing a shroud of their faith and many others have not needed or intended to do so. The clash between religion and art beckons controversy and the wrath of family and community. Despite the sensitivities, ideas, or faiths of any given group or person, religion should not create taboo stipulations on any type of art. [1a] The word taboo On the one hand it means to us sacred, consecrated: but on the other hand it means, uncanny, dangerous, forbidden, and unclean. [1b] The question is where is the line drawn that separates what artwork can and can t be show without upsetting the public? The taboo restrictions are different from religious or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was a part of the exhibit Beware, Religion! that opened at the Andrei Sakharov Museum in Moscow. This is one of 4 renderings, two digital prints and 2 acrylic on canvas paintings. This digital print mixes the modern pop art logo of Coca Cola with an image of Jesus. It is one of the modern poster children for a stand against consumerism. The controversy jams the gears because of the fact that it is taboo , meshing a religious icon with a logo that isn t habitually associated with religion immediately turns into something perceived as disrespectful. Another example of controversial art is Piss Christ by Andres Serrano. It is a photo of a crucifix submerged in Serrano s urine. Protesters stated that in this work Serrano had desecrated something sacred by not showing appropriate respect for Christ. But with so many different religions and denominations how can one pinpoint what is and what isn t the appropriate respect for Christ? Further dissection of this piece might lead one to believe it lacked respect for the Christian faith. A final example of controversial art is Yo Mama s Last Supper by RenГ©e Cox; this 5 (31 x 31 ) panel photo shows Cox nude posed as Jesus, from Leonardo Da Vinci s Last Supper, surrounded by 12 fully clothed male disciples, all of them Black with the exception of Judas, who was white. AN INVESTIGATION TO FIND THE EFFECT OF BILE SALTS OF ON THE DIGESTION OF LIPIDS I have investigated that if there is an effect of bile salts on the digestion of lipids in the milk. When lipids are broken down in to fatty acids and glycerol (see below), the acid lowers the pH of the mixture. To help me determine and measure the digestion of lipids, a pH indicator phenolphthalein has been used to measure the pH of the mixtures. The pH indicator will change the colour from pink to either white (if bile is not contained) or brown (if bile is contained), this will indicate that the solution is changing from alkaline to acidic. So if I want to use phenolphthalein, I will have to firstly make the mixtures alkaline. This will be achieved by ... Toxins differ based on species (1).The latex of E.trucalli contains poly cyclic diterpene esters (3). The latex on oral ingestion acts as an irritant causing vomiting, diarrhea, burning sensation in the abdomen, convulsion and coma. Irritant toxins indirectly stimulate contraction of the gastrointestinal smooth muscles by mechanical irritation. Skin exposure produces an irritant dermatitis and ocular exposure causes an irritant keratoconjuctivitis. Our patient had gastro intestinal symptoms (vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain).Management includes symptomatic and supportive care (1). The Kaz II started its journey from Airlie Beach on Aprill 2007, going towards Townsville on the first part of a journey that was supposed to take it around the northern part of Australia to the western part of the country. Several explanations have been formulated for the crew s disappearance. But the one that lights up my thrill seeking vein is the one that Hope Himing, niece of Derek Batten has pointed out. • 14. The Performance Appraisal Process Is Defined As The... The performance appraisal process is defined as the process which a manager (1) examines and evaluates an employee s work behavior by comparing it with preset standards, (2) documents the results of the comparison, and (3) uses the results to provide feedback to the employee to show where improvements are needed and why (Business Dictionary, 2015). Performance appraisals are used to determine who needs what training, and who will be promoted, demoted, retained, or fired within organizations (Business Dictionary, 2015). Performance appraisals have changed over time (Glen, 1990). The BARS or behaviorally anchored rating scales evaluated employee traits such as reliability and cooperation (Glen, 1990). This system was later replaced by a management by objectives which sets performance objectives and appraised (Glen, 1990). More recently this was replaced by the merit pay and pay for performance systems (Glen, 1990). All the appraisal system attempt to maximize objectivity while minimizing uncertainty and subjectivity (Glen, 1990). Performance appraisals are often viewed as a no win situation by both managers and employees (Glen, 1990). Managers view performance appraisals as their job to provide performance feedback and motivate employees in order to drive individual and organizational improvements (Glen, 1990). • 15. Gender Discrimination In Nursing Today, most people perceive nursing as a women profession. Men who enter this field have been looked at as outcasts. Many individuals feel that a man does not belong in a female profession. I believe that statement to be untrue and unfair. The issue of gender discrimination in nursing is the same as any other professions. The only difference is nursing is dominated by women, and men are the minority fighting for equality. My goal in this paper is to help you understand why I m arguing that men should be welcomed in the nursing profession. Genderor sex discriminationinvolves treating an employee or a category of employees differently because of gender. Whenever this discrimination affects the terms or conditions of employment, it is illegal. Gender based different treatment of employees with regard to pay, title, position, hours worked and vacation time is generally considered illegal and wrong. Just 2.7 percent of the working nursing population in the United States are men. To understand why nursing is dominated by women we have to analyze the history. Malenurses may belong, but there s still not many around. According to the U.S. Labor Department statistics, 6.7 percent of registered nurses were male. Gender discrimination in nursing exists because of prejudices male students encounter in the classroom, in the workplace and with patients. Over the years discrimination of males in the nursing has declined but just like racial discrimination it still exists. To understand gender discrimination in nursing we must first understand the past. Nursing was found in the 3rd century in ancient Rome and was dominated by men. Since the 20th century women have dominated the nursing profession. Actually, in the 1897 American Nurse Association was founded, and no men were allowed. The rule eventually changed in 1930, allowing men the right to be a nurse. Are male nurses accepted by female nurses? I feel like if you are in the nursing profession and don t understand that there is a shortage of nurses in the world then it shouldn t matter if they are male or female. Every gender should be accepted. The require for male nurses is on a rise, partly because there is a growing demand for nurses in general. That also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This vast empire took several thousand years to build. Early settlements can be traced back to the northern city of Nineveh around 5000 B.C. Moby Dick By Herman Melville Moby Dick by Herman Melville is a tale of many things, and has become perhaps one of the most widely known revenge stories ever told, wherein the mad Captain Ahab chases the titular white whale to the ends of the earth, willing to sacrifice everything for revenge. The novel is known for its extensive symbolism and abstract or open ended meaning. Many people find different meanings in the story, and the debate over what certain elements mean has been a point of contention since the novel was published. The criticisms and analyses by Randall Bass and R.C. Sproul give great insight into the most symbolic element of the plot, the whale itself. The whale Moby Dick may mean many things, including the other to the self , God, or, as I believe, the unknowable, inscrutable, and ineffable of the world. Both criticisms agree on one element of the story: the white whale, Moby Dick, means more than it is. The whale is symbolic of something unknown, feared, or hated. Any serious analysis of the novel will agree with this, but with many different interpretations, a few of which are more widely supported than others. The interpretation of what the whale symbolizes is where the criticisms diverge. Bass claims the conflict between Ahab and the whale to be the conflict between the self and the other , respectively. Sproul disagrees, favoring the somewhat widely held theory that the conflict is of a man against God. Both analyses of the whale s symbolic meaning have validity and a ... • 31. Comedy Of Manners Analysis The comedy of manners is a genre of comedy that became established on the English stage during the Restoration period. It can be said that the English comedy of manners started with George Etherege, second would be William Congreve (Palmer 2). Their plays focused on the behavior of people in a society and the feigned values that they cared about ( Comedyof Manners 1). These men constructed realism in their plays keeping their writings authentic and unique while also putting the comedy on stage as close to reality as possible, to show general life of time, its movements, its amusements, its general conceptions, were mirrored upon stage (Dobree 26 29). They used their observations from their own life to represent the setting, events, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... English theatres were closed down between 1642 and 1660 when Oliver Cromwell and the Puritans conquered England and there was no aristocracy. In 1660 King Charles II took the throne and one of his first actions was to grant several key theatrical figures licenses to produce plays and breathe life into the theatre once more. Most of the writers wrote about things that they were passionate about or things that were popular during the time. To provide some examples, George Etherege has been called the actual founder of English comedy of manners (Palmer 31). Etherege described himself as being lazy and too careless to be ambitious, so he decided to write plays for his own enjoyment and for entertainment (Dobree 60). Etherege wrote Sir Fopling Flutter (1676), which is about a young aristocrat that takes place in London during the Restoration period who tries to win the affection ... Many men, women and children are struggling to live due to an unhealthy organ that resides in them, so the demand for a replacement organbecomes critical. With a lack of people willing to donate their organs, individuals will soon be getting compensated to do so, which will increase the willingness of people to donate, giving those in need the chance to live. • 36. Marie De France Composed A Works Of The French Aquitanian... From the works of the French Aquitanian and Champagnian troubadours, the framework/ideals of fin amour grew and spread throughout Europe, reaching the courts of Britain. As the conception of fin amour became increasingly popular amongst the literature of the aristocracy, writers such as, Andreas Capellanus wrote of the stages and rules of courtly love. Inspired by this movement in the culture and literature of court, the poet Marie de Francecomposed a collection of romantic lays. In the Breton Lays , Marie presents her narratives as a guide for courtly lovers. For, each lay exhibits the problems, consequences, and rewards that can occur if a lady or knight does/or does not follow the three principles of fin amour which, as explained by the scholars Jeri S. Guthrie (1976) and F.R.P Akehurst (1995), include mezura (to have self restraint and patience in love, to have discretion within an affair), joven (to be spontaneous in love, to woo with grand gestures and gifts), and cortezia (to follow the moral and societal rules of court). The first standard of courtly love Marie de France presents within The Breton Lays is mezura. Through the narratives of Lanval and Yonec , Marie reinforces the importance mezura plays in maintaining a courtly affair; she shows that being open about a relationship can lead to disaster. In the story of Lanval , Lanval breaks the principle of mezura by rashly exposing his affair with the amie to Queen Guinevere. When Guinevere propositions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An example of a change in culture to westernize by Peter was the abolition of the whip giving practice. In upper class marriages it was customary for the father of the bride to give the groom a whip, symbolizing the control of men over women. This change in Russian illustrates how drastic a change was necessary for Russia to westernize and it is likely many people were not accepting of this change as it had been engrained in Russian culture for hundreds of years. Another cultural change was the requirement that all boyars cut of their beards, pigtails, and long sleeves that were Mongol style and had been adopted by the boyars. Curley s wife has become virtually another person because of loneliness. Her insecurity is evident by the way she dresses and utilizes her make up. She uses her appearance to receive attention like when Curley s Wife was standing there looking in. She had full, rouged lips and wide spaced eyes, heavily made up. Her fingernails were red. Her hair hung in little rolled clusters, like sausages. She wore a cotton housedress and red mules, on the steps of which were little bouquets of red ostrich feathers (Steinbeck) Acting in flirtatious ways is the only way Curley s Wife thinks she can deal with her loneliness. His desire for friendship makes him have an obsession for soft objects. The relationships in Lennie s life do not provide him with a sufficient amount of care and affection that Lennie needs. Namque fluentisono prospectans litore Diae Thesea cedentem celeri cum classe tuetur Indomitos in corde gerens Ariadna furores. Our first introduction of Ariadne is of her abandonment by Theseus. Ariadne looks on as Theseus abandons her on the island bearing wild furies in the heart. Catullus uses the female narrative express his feelings of grief due to his abandonment by Lesbia. Theseus careless forgetfulness, which in the legend causes his father s mistaken suicide, parallels the fecklessness of Lesbia. Surrounding this, there is the perfect wedding of Peleus and Thetis represents a kind of high point in the age of heroes. One of the most hospitable cultures was that of the ancient Greeks, exemplified in Homer s The Odyssey by both gracious hosts and guests. In Greece and The Odyssey , not only was good hospitality etiquette expected, but the added pressure that if they didn t treat their guests with respect the gods would punish them further compelled excellent manners. As a guest, Odysseus is very selfish and inconsiderate towards his hosts. Throughout the duration of Odysseus absence, the suitors are treated well, and in response to this, they refuse to leave when asked. The suitors are fed and housed, and after a number of years they overstay their welcome. In response to this Telemachus, prompted by Athena, informs the suitors that his father is returning home and they are all to vacate Odysseus home. The suitors, in turn, ignore him and continue to eat drink and be merry, at the cost of Telemachus and Penelope s household. What are the consequences of these actions taken by the suitors? Although the primary consequence is their death, they also lose the hand of Penelope. None of them are able to pass the test of stringing the bow of Odysseus except Odysseus himself. This is followed by the main consequence of the suitors execution at the hands of Odysseus and Telemachus. By not respecting the hospitality given by Penelope, they set the stage for their own deaths. This is quite possibly a reference to the fact that they saw hospitality as a way to honor the gods; giving hospitality to a stranger was the same as offering it to a god. Zeus being the god of hospitality, one of the primary ways to worship this aspect of Zeus godliness was to be hospitable to strangers and travelers. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
