Essays On A Separate Peace
Crafting an essay on the theme of "Essays On A Separate Peace" can prove to be a challenging
endeavor. The novel itself delves into complex themes, characters, and the intricacies of human
relationships. Navigating through the layers of the narrative, dissecting the characters'
motivations, and interpreting the subtle nuances embedded in the text requires a keen analytical
eye.
One of the challenges lies in striking a balance between summarizing the plot and delving into
deeper analysis. The temptation to focus solely on the surface-level events can be alluring, but a
truly compelling essay necessitates a profound exploration of the underlying themes and
character dynamics.
Moreover, the task is compounded by the need to contextualize the novel within its historical
backdrop, considering the impact of World War II on the characters and the societal milieu. It
requires weaving a tapestry of historical context while maintaining a clear focus on the novel's
central themes.
The essay also demands a nuanced understanding of the characters' psychological struggles and
the evolving relationships between them. Interpreting the protagonist's journey and the catalysts
for the conflicts within the narrative necessitates a careful examination of the author's stylistic
choices and narrative techniques.
Furthermore, ensuring that the essay maintains a coherent structure and logical flow while
addressing the multifaceted aspects of the novel adds another layer of complexity. Balancing
between providing evidence from the text and presenting original insights requires finesse and a
deep engagement with the material.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Essays On A Separate Peace" is a demanding task that calls
for a combination of literary analysis, historical understanding, and critical thinking. Successfully
navigating through the intricacies of the novel requires a writer's commitment to unraveling its
layers and presenting a cohesive interpretation. For those seeking assistance with such essays or

Medical Malpractice Cases
Medical malpractice cases are notoriously complex, requiring an expert opinion on
every phase of your treatment. It may be difficult even to determine whether you
have a valid case without the assistance of doctors and an experienced malpractice
attorney. Reynolds, Horne Survant, a law firm with a 40 year history of helping
Macon, GA, residents collect compensation for their injuries, suggests speaking to a
lawyer if you suspect you ve received substandard medical care.
No doctor, hospital, or health care worker is perfect, and even the most highly
trained, conscientious medical professional can make a mistake. However, the basis
of a medical malpractice claim is not whether a mistake was made but whether the
care you received lived up to the established standard for your condition. To make a
claim, your malpractice attorney must demonstrate that reasonable professionals in
the same field would have acted differently and deviations from that standard resulted
in physical harm.
Some of the most common medical malpractice cases involve:

Dualism Vs Physicalism
I would like to begin this paper by addressing what question I hope to answer
through the entirety of this paper: is the mind physical? As simple as this question
may seem to be, there still, to this day, is not a definite answer. There are, mostly, two
approaches to answering this problem, through dualismor physicalism. The dualist,
for the purposes of this paper, simply believes that the mind and the body are not
equal and therefore, they are not one in the same. The physicalist, however, would
come back to say that there are no such things as non physical objects and therefore,
they would conclude that the body and the mind are both physical. After weighing on
both sides of this argument, I am going to defend the physicalist ideas and... Show

An objection to this statement would be that we are not actually gaining any new
knowledge after experiencing events. What if, in reality, all we are doing is
obtaining a new ability? Since we already know all the physical information about
experiencing the color red, the physicalist would say that there would not be any
new knowledge to obtained from this event, but instead, we just know the ability
to see the color red now. But, in another section of Jackson s article, he refers back
to the famous article What is it Like to Be a Bat?, written by the philosopher
Thomas Nagel, to help strengthen his argument against physicalism. Jackson
states how there is no amount of physical information that could possibly tell us
what it is like to be anything other than a human being (Jackson 416 417). For
instance, the dualist would say that I cannot possibly understand what it is like to
actually be a dog. Even if I were able to obtain all the possible physical information
there is about dogs, according to the dualist, I would still be missing the actual
experience of being a dog. However, the physicalist would still argue that, although
I am not a dog, I can still know the physical information about what it is like to be a
dog and know how they perceive and experience everything in life. Then if, some

Describe The Victorian Era
The Victorian Age (1830 1901)
Introduction
The Victorian era is a term used to refer to the period during which Britain was
under the control of Queen Victoria. It was a period that was different from all the
other periods in the history of Britain. The Victorian era was before the Georgian
era. This period of British history has lasted about 63 years, starting from when
Queen Victoria began to rule in 1837 and ended when she died in 1901.
This essay aims to completely describe the Victorian era, the reason why I choose
this era specifically is because one of the greatest novels that I have read were
written in that era, therefore I would like to analyze this era in order to know what
happened in that era and what influenced the authors to write such great novels.

During the Victorian era, women did not have any rights, and they were abused
and oppressed, as a result, policies in against discriminatory laws were existed.
Women could not vote, could not own a property and they could not hold
professional jobs apart from teachers or a domestic servant, factory workers or
agricultural labors. At that time society did not consider that women need a proper
education and consequently it was only for men. As a result, it was rare to find
women in skilled jobs that required higher or intermediate education. Women then
were generally expected to be housekeepers or housewives .The role of women did
not go beyond a wife or mother who took care of her children and maintained her
house of her husband in proper order. Furthermore, the status of women their rights
and duties cannot be generalized since they varied according to the social class a
woman come from. That means social class determines the traditional of women s

Reristopher Grau Bad Dreams Evil Demons And The
Matrix...
In Bad Dreams, Evil Demons, and the Experience Machine: Philosophy and The
Matrix , Christopher Grau analyzes Rene Descartes argument concerning reality. The
argument starts on page 181 in the bottom left hand corner of the page and continues
onto page 182, ending at the bottom right corner of the page. In this text, Grau
explains Descartes argument that what one may interpret as reality may not be more
than a figment of their imagination and then uses it to develop his own argument.
Grau explains that you cannot know whether you are in the dreamworld or the real
world, and therefore argues that we cannot be sure that our beliefs about the world
are true. Grau manifests that we cannot justify any of our beliefs to be true if, in fact,
the possibility that we may always be dreamingis true. Using Descartes personal
experience with dreams, about how he often wakes up at night thinking he was at
one place when he was actually laying undressed in bed, Grau develops plausible
reasoning for not being able to rule out the possibility that we are always dreaming.
Grau asserts that there are times when one wakes up from a dream that often seems
as vivid and realistic as real life, however, soon after we will find that it is not.
Therefore, we find that our experiences of reality in our dreams are just components
of our mind. Descartes example of dreams establishes that we cannot trust what we
are experiencing to actually be real. How can we prove that we are awake other than
Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon Bonaparte was a ruthless killer who hungered for power alone. He
sacrificed much in order to contribute a great deal to the world by winning battles
and discovering things such as the Rosetta Stone in Egypt. His thirst for control and
power cost him everything he worked so hard for consequently leading to exile.
The notorious Napoleon Bonaparte was born August 15, 1769, the second of eight
children, on the little island of Corsica. The industrial revolution in Britain had
already begun. In the mean time Napoleon matured quickly and reached the height
of five feet five and was pale and thin. He did not care very much for anything in his

Napoleon and Josephine ended up married within that same year. On their
marriage certificate he put that he was two years older than he actually was and
she put that she was four years younger. Two days after his wedding he left for
Italy. His revised plan for the invasion of Italy had been approved by the directory
and Bonaparte was appointed. Since he was the reason that the revolution ended
he assumed his new commanding authority and it marked a historical turning
point. Italy was under the control of Napoleon by this time, the peninsula was
overrun by the French. His troops attacked Papal States and Napoleon forced Pope
Pius VI to surrender his lands. When he refused, the pope was arrested and taken to
Valence. Pope Pius VI died August 29, 1799. In May 1798, General Napoleon
Bonaparte sailed from Italy with an army of about 40,000 men along with a
smaller army of scientists, engineers, artists and linguists. His plan was to conquer
Egypt so he could undermine British trade with India after he stopped by Malta
first. There he established Malta as a satellite and looted gold and silver from the
nation. On July 21, 1798 the Battle of the Pyramids was a major success. His army
of 25,000 was victorious against the Mamluks with an army of 75,000. Napoleon
reached Cairo on July 24th. He declared himself the protector of Islam which

Pontormo focused on adding distorted figures that defined natural body curves and
movements. The composition of Descent from the Cross is too crowded, the forms
are compressed into the foreground, and has a central void. His color choices were
known as a sour palette , during the Mannerism art period. He experimented freely
with traditional subjects from the Bible and mythical religious themes by
incorporating dark visual references. The painting hangs in a dark corner of Florence

Relationship Between Volume And Pressure
In determining the relationship between volume and pressure, there are numerous
scientific concepts to be considered. Firstly, understanding the concept of gas
pressure is extremely important. So what is gas pressure? Gas pressure is the force
on the system exerted by the gas. This pressure can be measured using a pressure
sensor; it is often measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Additionally, there is
a standard pressure, which is 1 atm (standard atmosphere). Pressure is a pushing
force, and it is determined by using a tool called a manometer. A manometer works by
contrasting the pressure of the surroundings with the pressure of the system. Once it
is confirmed that the temperature and number of particles in the system remains
constant, the only factor affecting the pressure is the volume occupied by the gas.
Higher temperatures result in more pressure, and more particles also result in more
pressure, but once temperature and the number of particles are controlled, as the
volume increases and decreases the pressure changes accordingly. Pressure has a
specific relationship to temperature and the number of particles and these
observations are scientifically proven. Pressure has a direct relationship with
temperature in kelvins (c+273). This relationship exists because when the volume
and number of particles remain unchanged, as the particles heat up, they have more
energy and collide more causing more pressure. The absolute zero, or the temperature
at which the pressure
Fall Of Rome Dbq
What were the primary reasons for the fall of Rome? During it s time Rome was
one of the biggest powerhouses on the planet. Rome had many achievements but
what comes up must come down and Rome eventually fell. Some people still don t
know what the main reason why rome fell but there are a couple of reasons it fell.
Some reasons our having a weak army, political and leadership problems, and
economic problems. Here is some evidence why Romefell.
First off is economic problems and the main problem is that Roman money
became less and less valuable everyday. Another problem of the roman economy is
that the law was very easy to bribe the rich can basically avoid the law by just
paying them. This is said by Pricus a Roman ambassador to the Huns in document
E. Taxes were also very high and this made Roman citizens mad and began to riot.
This piece of evidence is also said by Priscus in document E. The emperor themself
would steal just for their own personal gain. This was said in the brain PoP The Fall
of Rome . Rome had a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rome s army became lazy and didn t want to train right and do other things like
they abandoned their armor since they were too lazy to wear it. This was said by a
roman historian Vegetius in document B. Also said by Vegetius the roman army
abandoned their ground drills which made them an easy target. This problem was
created because of the army s laziness and the army didn t care about training.
Rome also had to draft soldiers but their was a major fluad in the system and
certain groups can avoid or escaped being drafted like cooks, bakers, and slaves.
This was written by Michael Grant a reappraisal and since different groups of
people can escape the draft the military didn t get as many soldiers. If you want a
huge empire you need good leadership but that what rome lacked the

Car Accident Essay

drivers record or photograph how they are speeding up in the streets while driving
just for impressing people in social media . People don t realize that doing those
minor things causes severe pains or even death . people are on their phones, sending
text messages , drivingdrank and most of them are having fatigue from driving for
long hours or overly stressed after having a though working day, but after having a

only issue was drinking and speeding up while driving, now people have to be

of death that had been occurred as a result of texting , then it is a strong and
important issue to be concerned about. Having a life taken away because a person
could not wait to text until after the car has stopped, is something that people

people resist to pick up their phones when they are behind the wheel? Despite the
warnings and laws that have been given by the government , for many people their
brain is in battle between picking up the phone and leaving it alone while driving.
There are many facts about texting and driving that should really open up peoples

Some people argue that car accidents are under the responsibility of the government

mutations are believed to be works of the devil. His father, Joseph Strorm, is a
strict religious leader in their community, strongly against mutants like David. He

they do all deviants, even though David is his son. These two characters, despite
them having different beliefs, can be similar. David and Joseph Strorm are the same
because they both think they are doing the right thing and are both seen as leaders.

While that is true, this difference is also a similarity. The reason Joseph and David
are such important characters and why they are so strongly against each other is
because they both think they are doing the right thing and are stubborn about it.
Readers might see Joseph and the bad guy, being against mutations and beating his
son for hiding one, but he was brought up this way, hating mutations and thinking the
worst of them. He thinks he is doing the right thing and following God s will by
getting rid of, what he deems, the devil. David is technically doing the same thing.
He s doing what he thinks is right, and although they may not see eye to eye, they are
both doing what they think is
Gas Utilization Of Oil And Gas Technologies
Although the difficulty in storing processing, transporting and distributing gas makes
it difficult to utilise (Cost of transporting per unit energy is about 10 times higher
than that of oil) (Thomas et al, 2000), the evolution in oil and gas technologies has
presented many new ways for the commercialisation of APG, Technological options
for the monetisation of APG categorised into the methods available for getting gas
from production sites to consumers where it can consumed. In this chapter the
various methods would be briefly described, highlighting obtainable products and

Seizures.
Seizures/Epilepsy Epilepsy occurs as a result of abnormal electrical activity in the
brain. Brain cells communicate by sending electrical signals in an orderly pattern.
In epilepsy, these electrical signals become abnormal, giving rise to an electrical
storm that produces seizures. These storms may be within a specific part of the brain
or may be generalized, depending on the type of epilepsy. Epilepsy is the oldest
known brain disorder; in the early ages people did not understand the causes, people
often thought that it was a demon possession. It was not until the late 1880s that the
disease was correctly identified. Dr. John Jackson, a famous English neurologist, was

is the first symptom of a seizure, often the aura is an unrecognizable feeling. Other
times it s easy to recognize and may be a change in feeling, sensation, thought, or
behavior that is similar each time a seizure occurs. The middle of a seizure is often
called the ictal phase. It s the period of time from the first symptoms to the end of
the seizure activity, This correlates with the electrical seizure activity in the brain.
Sometimes the visible symptoms last longer than the seizure activity on an EEG.
This is because some of the visible symptoms may be after effects of a seizure or
not related to seizure activity at all. As the seizure ends, it is the recovery period.
Some people recover immediately while others may take minutes
Ethical Issues In Counseling Profession
During this week, there were two events that took place that awaken my awareness
of how dangerous the counseling profession is if one doesn t pay close attention to
clients/patients and follow all rules and regulations (state, federal, ethical). There
was a patient admitted to the floor that was extremely agitated in the ED. He was
found dangling off a local bridge and brought in TDO by the police. The patient
slept for the first few hours after being admitted to the floor from the ED. When he
woke up, he was agitated and began to pace the floor. There was another patient, a 4
foot 9 female, that had been verbally aggressive towards other patients and staff.
While the male patient was pacing the floor, the female patient was verbally
aggressive towards another patient and the male patient assumed she was talking to
him. He immediately became physically aggressive towards the patient by lifting her
and slightly throwing her against the wall. At that moment, the staff called the
appropriate code for security to arrive. Once security arrived, he became even more...

yes it was scary at some points but I was mostly uncomfortable when I was instructed
to stay in the room with the rest of the patients. During that time, all the patients were
either crying from being scared, angry at the aggressive patients, psychotic, or smelly.
There was on patient in the room that started masturbating while staring at me. At that
moment, I left the room and went to the staff and told them that I needed a break. I
told them to imagine being in a small room with 12 patients, some psychotic, angry,

The Measuring Of Flow Volume Loops Essay
Introduction: The measuring of flow volume loops (FVL) in laboratory settings
during exercise are becoming increasingly popular to identify the limiting
mechanics of ventilation (Johnson, Beck, Zeballos Weisman, 1999a). The
collection of a maximum flow volume loop (MFVL) through a forced maximal
maneuver at rest allows researchers to compare a baseline value with tidal loops
obtained during exercise (Johnson et al., 1999a). Dominelli and Sheel state that
MFVL provides information on an individual s capability to produce volume and
flow with respect to their mechanical ceilings (2012). Placing the respective tidal
loops associated with different exercise intensities within a resting MFVL shows the
difference in volumes during exercise and rest. An MFLV maneuver would yield the
largest loop; whereas, the resting tidal loop would be the smallest (Johnson,
Weisman, Zeballos Beck, 1999b). Additionally, tidal loops during exercise will fit
somewhere between resting and maximal tidal loops; increasing in volume as
intensity increases; however, the loops still remain small in comparison to the MFVL
(Johnson et al. 1999b). This aforementioned trend observed in healthy individuals
during increasingly intense exercise is related to the lack of constraints on ventilation
(Johnson et al. 1999b). Major factors responsible for limiting ventilation at rest and
during exercise are bronchodilation and bronchoconstriction; these in turn affect total
lungcapacity (TLC) a key measure with
How Speakers Affect The Credibility Of The Speaker
The process of globalization is rapidly expanding. More and more people are
learning languages and looking for a job in a foreign environment. However, a
study conducted in 2010 proposed that having an accent could diminish one s
credibility. This finding was widely promoted in a New York Times article named
A Failure to Communicate., but was not accurately reported. The research was
conducted by Shiri Lev Ari and Boaz Keysar, both of whom possessed accents
different from that of native English speakers. They were concerned about how
having an accent could impact the credibility of the speaker. There were two
reasons accounted for this phenomenon. Firstly, it is illustrated that native speakers
are sensitive to foreign accents, which serve as signals for outsiders. These signals
then led to prejudices as a result of foreign stereotypes and difficulty in processing
speech. Secondly, accented speech could be difficult to comprehend for native
speakers. In this study, researchers intended to specifically explain how speakers
reliability could be hampered by others comprehension. The researchers attributed
the low credibility to the lack of processing fluency . They stated that the ease of
processing stimuli could positively affect how the stimuli are evaluated. For
example, the idiom Woes unite foes is easy to process because of its rhyme, so
people accept it effortlessly. Other evidence of processing fluency is a particular

The influence of grass roots marketing to build brand loyalty is down played as a
strategy to reach consumers effectively. Shifts in culture have proved that response to
mass media marketing is declining and there are other alternatives to build your
brand. Lifestyle clothing companies have started to implement strategies to reach
youth consumer markets in a personalized way. Through the use of grass roots
consumer marketing brands can capitalize on the growing field of youth consumers
to build brand loyalty and create returning customers for life. By investigating the
current strategies used to market clothing brands to youth it will benefit marketing,
public relations, and clothing companies who consistently develop and manage
brands.

Power Ranger Research Paper
When I was four years old, I wanted to be a Power Ranger. I remember every
Saturday morning watching them fighting and defeating their foes. My favorite
character was the Black Ranger. I loved his vitality, his charisma, and his zeal. As a
young boy, he showed me that anything could be accomplished or overcome
through teamwork. Through him, I learned what it meant to accomplish a goal
and set new ones. Power Rangers was a way I could escape from what I saw every
day in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Outside of my living room and on the streets, I
saw the same villains in my favorite TV show. However, these villains were not
defeated as easily. There were no Power Rangers to save the people in my
neighborhood. I was born in a city that had more bullet shells on the ground than
the city s population, San Pedro Sula, Honduras. It was a place where lying,
stealing, and cheating were at the top of everyone s agenda. These were the three
essentials to survive day in and day out. I remember on my walks to school I would
see kids just like me collecting plastic bottles and metal cans to sell for scraps at the
recycling plant. Sometimes I would join them because I thought that was what...

The Employment Laws
Introduction The purpose of this research is to prove that the employment at will
doctrine does not protect the employee population in the United States. The fact that
if you look at the way the doctrine is written it protects the employers and firms, and
this as a result creates discrimination. This in itself creates an unsafe and sometime
unstable work environment because of the potential for high turnover, costly training,
and low morale amongst employees. There are certain factors that must be considered
within the employee at will doctrine such as union protection, the economy,
contracting verses employment, discrimination and the economic stance on the

Insurance rates are constantly growing in cost and companies both large and small
try to minimize risks as much as possible in order to avoid being dropped from a

possibilities. Health and safety training Health and safety training includes the
review of responsibilities, the knowledge of policy settings, videos, interaction

Analysis Of The Entertainer By Scott Joplin
The Entertainer by Scott Joplin
The Entertainer composed by Scott Joplin, was created because, rag time in the 1902
was extremely popular between 1897 1917 . Moreover this music piece is resurrected
for our entertainment in the 1973 Oscar winning movie The String
The famous song published by John Stark Son of St. Louis, in the summer of
December 29, 1902 was an song created for the lovers of ragtime music and dancers
of the two step piece that was popular during this period. The original piece key
signature is C Major but got transposed to F major for Tenor Saxophone playing.
Therefore, the time signature is 4/4 with a tempo of 77 BPM with Mezzo Forte being
the starting dynamic.
One of the many style that you could analyze this ragtime piece is by using AA, BB,
A, CC and in the second time DD. This technique was used in what many
commentators would say African Americans... use.... freedom of speech in order to
enhance their identity and presence in the United States of America , giving in those
times a more inferior community, in America, a freedom a way to communicate.
Throughout the song, the tone of the piece gives off a relaxing sound but gets tedious
after a while since there is not much variation between the notes, and is quite
repetitive all through the piece. The rhythm of the song is 4/4 timing which makes
the characteristic identity with ragtime in its two step andate. Highlighted throughout
the musical piece, there a waves of ostinato due to the
Historical Analysis Of The Zoot Suit, By Luiz Valdez
Zoot Suit was written by Luiz Valdez and published in 1978. The story is based on
the Sleepy Lagoon murder trials of the 1940s and follows protagonist Henry
Reyna. This play deals with the intercultural conflicts between Henry s generation
and his parent s, as well as those between Mexican Americans and white
Americans. Mexican and American culture is effortlessly blended to show the
transcultural influences on Henry and his group of friends. In this historical
analysis, I will not only be looking at what historical events influenced this play
and the author, but how this play uses those historical influences to showcase the
battle of cultural expression in 1940s Los Angeles. Los Angeles was undergoing
severe demographic changes in the early 1940 s. Mexican refugees were escaping
the Mexican Revolution, farmers were fleeing the Dust bowl, and American
servicemen rushed to Los Angeles because of World War II ( People Events ). The
economy was booming from the war as American production increased and the youth
was appreciating jazz culture and began wearing zoot suits, just like in the play.
Because of the Sleepy Lagoon murders, the zoot suitwas associated with Mexican
violence. Eventually, fights escalated between the rebelling Mexican American youth
and Marines because the racial tensions. This led to the Zoot Suit Riotsof 1943 that
left hundreds injured. As stated by the citizens committee investigating the riots,
racism was the central cause of the riots ( People

The Historical Existence Of Jesus Essay
Introduction
Some scholars argue that evidence of Jesus of Nazareth s existence can only be
found within the writings of the New Testament. They believe that the New
Testament is a biased and unreliable source for the existence of Jesus. They therefore
claim that Jesus did not exist. The historical existence of Jesus is necessary to
demonstrate the truth of Christianity. While Christian scholars do not discount the
reliability of the New Testament as a historical document, they are also able to point
to other historical documents and consider non Christian writings which support the
existence of Jesus. In this paper I will argue that Jesus the Nazarene was an actual,
historical person and that this can be demonstrated through extra Biblical resources.
Tacitus
Tacitus, perhaps the greatest Roman historian, provides us with an account of the fire
of Rome.1 It is within this account, recorded in The Annals, that Tacitus mentions
Jesus. In chapters 38 through 45 of Annals 15, Tacitus discusses how Nero implicated
Christians as those responsible for the fire.
But neither human resourcefulness nor the emperor s largesse nor appeasement of
the gods could stop belief in the nasty rumor that an order had been given for the fire.
To dispel the gossip Nero therefore found culprits on whom he inflicted the most
exotic punishments. These were people hated for their shameful offences whom the
common people called Christians. The man who gave them their name, Christus, had
been executed
Misrepresentation In Film
Representation of Females in the Film Industry
Introduction
This work is to write about the position of women in the film industry. Women had
played an important role in the growth of film industry playing a range of roles.
However, they have been marginalized and sexualized over the years. This is
evident with simplistic roles such as the femme fatele , which is a typical seductress
who will ultimately end the life or career of the male lead.
Women Advancement in the FilmIndustry
Additionally, statistics prove that women have not progressed as much as men have
in the industry. In the past, females wouldn t t have dominant roles in the industry

how to achieve this goal. There are things that can be done to help ensure hair good
health. t444z hair products are one such brand that can be used to help one s hair.
There are also many other ways to care for your hair. Read on for easy to follow tips.
Be gentle
Many people are way too rough on their hair. Try some tenderness. Never use a
comb on hair, unless it s wet. Don t yank, and pull hair. Use products to detangle, if
tangling is a problem. When the hair is pulled hard, often strands come out. This is
a sure sign that it s time to try being gentle. Dry the hair gently with a towel, before

This hair food is made from a variety of natural ingredients that are good for the hair.
Using this can minimize shedding, and hair loss. It leaves the hair soft, and
manageable. It stops scalp itching, and dandruff. It s a great all around product for the
hair.
Don t overprocess the hair
While it s a lot of fun to try new looks, the more that the hair is processed, the more
it s damaged. Once a process is done, whether a perm, hair color, or something else,
give the hair time to heal. Don t go from one thing to another, it s harmful. Too many
procedures done one after another can cause serious damage.
Avoid heavy oils
Heavy oils coat the hair shaft. They encase the hair follicle in dirt, and dandruff.
Instead use a natural oil such as coconut, or olive oil instead.
Take care of your hair and it will stay healthy, and will look it s best. Keep the
above simple tips in mind as you go about daily activities. Be kind, and gentle to the
hair, let it air dry, and don t overprocess. Use products designed to help the hair

Essay On Identification Of Spectroscopy
Several thousands of compounds are yet to be discovered, but there are many tools
and methods available to uncover the identity of newly synthesized compounds.
These techniques include performing NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and mass
spectrometry, as well as analyzing melting points and refractive indexes. In particular,
spectroscopyand spectrometry are especially useful in determining chemical and
physical properties, and they are highly applicable to pharmaceutical product
development. According to a study published in 2011, pharmaceutical researchers
have focused on the implementation and presence of metals, trace metals, and active
ingredients in developing drugs (Lewen, 2011). Nuclear magnetic resonance

To prepare an NMR sample, a small amount of sample is dissolved in a deuterated
solvent and placed in a tube. Then, the sample tube is placed in an NMR spectrometer
and a spectrum depicting the chemical shifts of protons or carbons can be produced.
Another instrumental method that helps identify chemical compounds is infrared (IR)
spectroscopy. In this type of spectroscopy, molecules are subjected to molecular
vibrations from an infrared light source. Frequencies and percent transmittance are
plotted in the spectra, which allows for the identification of functional groups (Putzig
et al., 1994). This experiment involved the infrared spectroscopy using attenuated
total reflectance, or ATR. Specifically, no sample preparation was needed as the
unknown samples were directly applied to the IR spectrometer. The IR light beam
deeply penetrates and interacts with parts of the compound and reflects off and into
the detector (Putzig et al., 1994). The IR spectrum simply depicts the types of
functional groups present, but not the actual number of each functional group. The
frequencies are measured in wavenumbers, in units of inverse centimeters. Generally,
the significant functional groups appear above the 1400 cm 1 region. Heavier
molecules and weaker molecules produce lower wavenumbers and vibrate less. One
other critical technique to determine the
The Machine Stops, By Jonathan Forster
Society today possesses an over reliance on technology. Advancements in technology
paved the way for the formation of new applications and forms of social media that
potentially lead to the loss of the intimacy of communication and personal
relationships among users. As a result of the ease of communication through
technology, face to face interaction rarely occurs anymore. Long before technology
began advancing at a rapid pace, authors used their medium of writing to comment on
the dangers of relying on technology too excessively. E.M. Forster s short story, The
Machine Stops, written in 1909, highlights a dilemma that society s over reliance on
technology created between virtual connectivity and face to face interaction. That
over reliance, perfect for the futuristic, dystopian society in The Machine Stops, also
serves as a cautionary tale for the technological culture of today.
Vashti takes comfort in all the luxuries that the Machine provides, but that comfort
comes with a price. Immediately after his birth, Kuno was taken from Vashti and

In the futuristic society of The Machine Stops, the expectations of parents do not
include actually raising their children. Not once in the short story did Vashti voice
any reluctance she may have had when Kuno was taken from her. Maternal instincts
would prevent any mother from allowing her child to be whisked away, but Vashti s

The Play Symbols
Symbolism played a fundamental role in the play as it was commonly used in the
most confronting, emotional points of the play, for example the police visit and the
funeral. Giving such meaning to objects and simple actions urges the audience to
make connections and inferences, encouraging them to contemplate the messages and
issues in the play. Having a similar effect as rhetorical question in literature and
cementing an understanding of the situation, contributing the performances
educational value and providing a further depth and meaning to the play. Costuming
contributed an effective but also overlooked symbol. All actors wore a green and gold
jersey throughout the entire play, even as they played other characters, only ever

Executive Branch Influence
Due to the concept that I choose, I gained a better understanding on how much
influence the executive branch has over the people. The reason why secondary
position exerts a strong influence over the people, is due to how close they are to
their constituents. Using the state of California as an example, the executive
branch is entrusted with implementing the laws that are passed from the national to
federal level, and if it was not for the governor of California being in sync with the
people. Any proposed law that was passed from the national level would ve not
exercised its effectiveness, however, if the governor of California does not facilitate
its power appropriately, its people have the ability to call in an early recall: the voter

The Pros And Cons Of Immigration Laws
Immigration is a hot button topic today and so many people have different opinions
about it, but who oversees its laws? Our government is split into three main branches,
Legislative, Executive and Judicial. Every branch contributes in a different way to
have a law in action. The Legislative branch, which contributes to the first step of
making any law, consists of the house of representatives and the senate, which
together form the United StatesCongress which have the supreme authority to enact
legislation, the privilege to confirm or reject many presidential appointments, and
massive investigative powers ( The Legislative Branch , 2017). The Executive branch,
contributes to enforcing the laws and it mainly involves the President of the United
States, who also acts as head of state and commander in chief of the armed forces.
The President is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by
Congress and, to that end, appoints the heads of the federal agencies, including the
Cabinet ( The Executive Branch , 2017). The Judicial branch, puts the final touches
on the law and polishes it. It consists of the United States Supreme Court and lower
federal courts. The Supreme Court s primary function is to hear cases that challenge
the constitutionality of legislation or require interpretation of that legislation ( The
Judicial Branch , 2017). Immigration laws are made within the Legislative branch,
carried out by the Executive branch, and evaluated by the Judicial

caverns are a joy to see. Environmentally, these caverns are beautifully maintained.

Racism Vs Racial Profiling
Racism and racial profiling has been a big argument for years in America. This
prejudice blew up in the town of Ferguson, Missouri, over the shooting of a black
teenager by a white policeman. Consequently, riots and looting sparked overnight in
the streets and the whole controversy spread across the nation as the world watched.
This whole thing all started at 11:47 a.m. officers Wilson responded to a call for a
baby with breathing problems and drove to Glenark Drive, east of Canfield Drive.
Around three minutes later and several blocks away from their, Michael Brown
was recorded on camera stealing a box of swisher cigars and was seen pushing
away the store clerk on camera. Brown and his friend, Dorian Johnson, left the
market at about 11:54 a.m. At 11:53, a policedispatcher reported a stealing in
progress at the Ferguson Market and the description that the dispatcher gave was a
black male wearing a white T shirt running toward QuickTrip. At 11:57, the dispatch

Manifest Destiny Research Paper
Manifest Destiny is the idea that God intended the United States to expand from
sea to sea. This means to expand and settle all land from the Atlantic Ocean to the
Pacific Ocean. The idea really came into light in the 1830 s and 40 s, but really you
could see the American s desire to continuously expand all the way back to the 17th
and 18th centuries (A Patriot s History of the United States). However, the term itself
came from an 1840s Democratic newspaper supporting the Mexican American War.
Thomas Jefferson was the first president to have a huge impact on western expansion
with the Louisiana Purchase that greatly increased the size of the United States (The
Monroe Doctrine and American Expansion). By the 1830 s, however, Americans
were looking to expand western again. Simultaneously, Texans were looking for
independence from Mexico.
The Texas Mexico relationship dated back to when Mexico won their
independence. Mexico was trying to entice new settlers to settle the area, and they
originally looked to America to cover the vast area. However, this policy ended up
being too successful and eventually Mexico became wary of American influence on
their land (A Patriot s History of the United States). This resulted in ... Show more

Polk was able to squeak out a victory in the election of 1844. President Polk had four
main goals in his presidency, three of which dealt with Manifest Destiny. The first
was to expand to Texas. The second gain complete control of the Oregon Territory.
And third to also gain control of the California Territory which at the time of his
election Mexico had control over. President Polk turned out to be one of the most
accomplished presidents, especially one term presidents, accomplishing all four of
his main goals, two of which came directly from victory in the Mexican American

The League Of Legends World Championship
Imagine an enormous arena completely filled with screaming, ecstatic fans
cheering for their corresponding teams that have come to compete that day.
Behind the scenes, the athletes are nervous, they are about to compete in the
biggest, most important event of their lives. However, they are professionals, so
they have trained a majority of their lives for this moment, constantly practicing
their craft, going over film, and working alongside their teammates in order to
achieve their ultimate goal, winning the championship. This description at first
look may seem to be describing a championship sporting event such as the NBA
Finals, the World Series, Stanley Cup Finals or even the World Cup Final.
However, none of these events are what is being depicted. What is actually being
illustrated is the finals for numerous Esports competitions such as the League of
Legends World Championship or the StarCraft World Championship Series. Ever
since the first invention of video games, there has always been a stigma that came
with being a gamer. Gamers have always been labeled as geeky, nerdy, immature, and
even fat and lazy. Some of the public s perception of Esports as well as their desire to
not have it labeled as a real sportin Esports brief history exemplifies the stigma and
negative connotation of the word gamer. However, in the increasingly innovative
and technological modern world, the idea that Esports should not socially or legally
be considered to be a real sport has become
The Purpose Of My Research Conducted For This Paper
Was
The purpose of my research conducted for this paper was to examine the relationship
between Parkinson s disorder and its connection to the anatomy of the human body.
Parkinson s is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement due
to the loss of Dopamine. Dopamine which is a neurotransmitter located in the brain
allows signals to be transported from one nerve cell to another. Its purpose is to
regulate both movement and cognition. The loss of these chemical messengers can
cause both stiffness of the body and tremors, which are two common effects of
Parkinson s. Throughout this paper I will include more information gained through
my research of the disease and its relationship to the human body.... Show more

Several decades after the publishing of An Essay on the Shaking Palsy Charcot took
it upon himself to conduct research of his own. Known as The Father of Neurology
Charcot differentiated tremors found in Parkinson s disease with those of patients
with multiple sclerosis (Aslinia, Kumar, Mazza, 2011). After his findings he found it
necessary to pay homage to the first physician who originally brought recognition to
this disorder. Naming the disease maladie de Parkinson which in English means
Parkinson Disease .
What exactly is Parkinson s? Known commonly as a movement disorder. It affects
movement, muscle control, and balance. It is the second most common progressive
neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer s disease, and the second most prevalent
and disabling condition in the expanding elderly population (Mikkelsen,Stinson,
2011, pg xix). For those that aren t aware what neurodegenerative means it s simply
the loss of nerve cells. Nerve cells which are also known as neurons are located in
the nervous system. Neurons are broken down into three different types. They are
sensory (receptor), motor (effector), and interneurons (connector). Each one of these
neurons plays a different role in the nervous system. The purpose of neurons is to
receive incoming information and in return send signals to other neurons, muscles or
glands. Neurons are made up of three parts. First the cell body which controls the
neuron
Mark Edmundson Anti-Idealism
In Mark Edmundson s Polemical Introduction to his novel, Self and Soul, he
analyzes how the modern world has lost the ideals held by the ancient world, such
as the heroic ideal, the religious ideal, and the ideal of contemplation. Edmundson
cites the loss of these ideals through modern writers, such as Shakespeare and
Freud. Edmundson specifically calls Freud a relentless enemy of the warrior ideal,
the religious ideal, and the ideal of transcendent philosophy. The truth in
Edmundson s analysis of Freud s anti idealist view can be seen in Freud s novel,
Civilization and Its Discontents. In this novel, Edmundson s assessment is most
evident that Freud sees a desire to follow ideals as a fall to illusion, as well as Freud
s obvious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These attempts can be defined through Freud s pleasure principle, which aimed for
an absence of pain and unpleasure, and, on the other hand, at the experiencing of
strong feelings of pleasure (42). Therefore, happiness is not really possible all the
time, as it seems to only come from unhappiness, or a release from unpleasure. Since
the purpose of life is not to be happy but rather, only to survive, it calls in to
question whether there is a meaning to life brought upon by a higher power. Freud s
idea of transcendency and the purpose of life seems to be answered when he writes,
the question of the purpose of human life has been raised countless times; it has
never yet received a satisfactory answer and perhaps does not admit of one (41
42). His answer seems that be that there is no real purpose to existence, except for
survival; rather, life only has the meaning that we give it. Overall, this seems to be
very dismissive of the idea of a higher power, deity, or purpose, which is represented
the ancient world ideal of transcendent philosophy. Another ideal that Edmundson
saw as one held by the ancient world was that of the heroic ideal, which Edmundson
typified through Achilles and Hector, who characterized the warrior soldier and the
citizen soldier, who

Examinations and a culture of merit remain greatly valued in China today. In recent
years, a number of New Confucians (not to be confused with Neo Confucianism)
have advocated that democratic ideals and human rights are quite compatible with
traditional Confucian Asian values . With the rise of European economic and military
power beginning in the mid 19th century, non Chinese systems of social and political
organization gained adherents in China. Some of these would be reformers totally
rejected China s cultural legacy, while others sought to combine the strengths of
Chinese and European cultures. In essence, the history of 20th century China is one
of experimentation with new systems of social, political, and economic organization
that would allow for the reintegration of the nation in the wake of dynastic collapse.
Teas culture
Tea is the agricultural product of the leaves, leaf buds, and internodes of various
cultivars and sub varieties of the Camellia sinuses plant, processed and cured using
various methods (Tea Guardian, 2010). Tea also refers to the aromatic beverage
prepared from the cured leaves by combination with hot or boiling water, and is the
common name for the Camellia sinuses plant itself. After water, tea is the most
widely consumed beverage in the world. It has a cooling, slightly bitter, astringent
flavor which many enjoy (Penelope Ody, 2000).
There are at least six varieties of tea: white, yellow,
Rhetorical Analysis Of Civil Religion
Through the use a newspaper front page, it was possible to express the ideas of
civil religion and lead the audience to the rhetorical purpose. This was the main
form of allowing news to be spread in the 1800s which played an enormous role in
the acknowledgment of the USS Maine. This genre convention was chosen to explain
civil religionbecause it brought forth the opportunity to present a tragic event while
still having the opportunity to relive the past and present civil religion. Robert
Bellah coined the term civil religion as a way to describe how the nation follows
traditions and ideas that could be attributed to a private religion. This newspaper is
dated to have been published a day after the battleship Maine exploded in the port of

The speech itself was given by President Monroe who is seen as important figure as
one of the founding father. In civil religion, the Founding Fathers are often idolized
for their contribution to the creation of the nation in similar manners that God is
idolized in the Judeo Christian realm. The image of James Monroe was included as a
reminder of his strong demeanor and once again use pathos to build trusting
relationship with the audience. The rhetorical purposes of James Monroe and the
rhetorical purpose of the newspaper are different which supports the rhetorical
purpose that the newspaper is trying to radiate. The inclusion of the speech represents
the rhetorical purpose of Monroe which is to approve the Western expansion along
with protecting the borders of the Northern Hemisphere from eastern powers. The
speech took place in Yorktown which was the location of the last great battle in the
American revolution and therefore this place can express the origin story of our
nation and thus has an importance to convey the audience of the importance of the
matter. Monroe also mentions the responsibility to follow the ideals of the Founding
Father had when constructing the Constitution in efforts to continue to uphold the
values that the nation was built upon. The mention of God also signifies the
important role that a greater being has on the success of the

  • 1. Essays On A Separate Peace Crafting an essay on the theme of "Essays On A Separate Peace" can prove to be a challenging endeavor. The novel itself delves into complex themes, characters, and the intricacies of human relationships. One of the challenges lies in striking a balance between summarizing the plot and delving into deeper analysis. The temptation to focus solely on the surface-level events can be alluring, but a truly compelling essay necessitates a profound exploration of the underlying themes and character dynamics. Moreover, the task is compounded by the need to contextualize the novel within its historical backdrop, considering the impact of World War II on the characters and the societal milieu. It requires weaving a tapestry of historical context while maintaining a clear focus on the novel's central themes. The essay also demands a nuanced understanding of the characters' psychological struggles and the evolving relationships between them. Interpreting the protagonist's journey and the catalysts for the conflicts within the narrative necessitates a careful examination of the author's stylistic choices and narrative techniques. Furthermore, ensuring that the essay maintains a coherent structure and logical flow while addressing the multifaceted aspects of the novel adds another layer of complexity. Balancing between providing evidence from the text and presenting original insights requires finesse and a deep engagement with the material. • 2. Medical Malpractice Cases Medical malpractice cases are notoriously complex, requiring an expert opinion on every phase of your treatment. It may be difficult even to determine whether you have a valid case without the assistance of doctors and an experienced malpractice attorney. Reynolds, Horne Survant, a law firm with a 40 year history of helping Macon, GA, residents collect compensation for their injuries, suggests speaking to a lawyer if you suspect you ve received substandard medical care. No doctor, hospital, or health care worker is perfect, and even the most highly trained, conscientious medical professional can make a mistake. However, the basis of a medical malpractice claim is not whether a mistake was made but whether the care you received lived up to the established standard for your condition. To make a claim, your malpractice attorney must demonstrate that reasonable professionals in the same field would have acted differently and deviations from that standard resulted in physical harm. • 3. Dualism Vs Physicalism I would like to begin this paper by addressing what question I hope to answer through the entirety of this paper: is the mind physical? As simple as this question may seem to be, there still, to this day, is not a definite answer. There are, mostly, two approaches to answering this problem, through dualismor physicalism. The dualist, for the purposes of this paper, simply believes that the mind and the body are not equal and therefore, they are not one in the same. The physicalist, however, would come back to say that there are no such things as non physical objects and therefore, they would conclude that the body and the mind are both physical. After weighing on both sides of this argument, I am going to defend the physicalist ideas and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An objection to this statement would be that we are not actually gaining any new knowledge after experiencing events. What if, in reality, all we are doing is obtaining a new ability? Since we already know all the physical information about experiencing the color red, the physicalist would say that there would not be any new knowledge to obtained from this event, but instead, we just know the ability to see the color red now. But, in another section of Jackson s article, he refers back to the famous article What is it Like to Be a Bat?, written by the philosopher Thomas Nagel, to help strengthen his argument against physicalism. Jackson states how there is no amount of physical information that could possibly tell us what it is like to be anything other than a human being (Jackson 416 417). For instance, the dualist would say that I cannot possibly understand what it is like to actually be a dog. Even if I were able to obtain all the possible physical information there is about dogs, according to the dualist, I would still be missing the actual experience of being a dog. However, the physicalist would still argue that, although I am not a dog, I can still know the physical information about what it is like to be a dog and know how they perceive and experience everything in life. Then if, some day, I
  • 4. Describe The Victorian Era The Victorian Age (1830 1901) Introduction The Victorian era is a term used to refer to the period during which Britain was under the control of Queen Victoria. It was a period that was different from all the other periods in the history of Britain. The Victorian era was before the Georgian era. This period of British history has lasted about 63 years, starting from when Queen Victoria began to rule in 1837 and ended when she died in 1901. This essay aims to completely describe the Victorian era, the reason why I choose this era specifically is because one of the greatest novels that I have read were written in that era, therefore I would like to analyze this era in order to know what happened in that era and what influenced the authors to write such great novels. At that time society did not consider that women need a proper education and consequently it was only for men. As a result, it was rare to find women in skilled jobs that required higher or intermediate education. Women then were generally expected to be housekeepers or housewives .The role of women did not go beyond a wife or mother who took care of her children and maintained her house of her husband in proper order. Furthermore, the status of women their rights and duties cannot be generalized since they varied according to the social class a woman come from. That means social class determines the traditional of women s life in which they live and work depending
  • 5. Reristopher Grau Bad Dreams Evil Demons And The Matrix... In Bad Dreams, Evil Demons, and the Experience Machine: Philosophy and The Matrix , Christopher Grau analyzes Rene Descartes argument concerning reality. The argument starts on page 181 in the bottom left hand corner of the page and continues onto page 182, ending at the bottom right corner of the page. In this text, Grau explains Descartes argument that what one may interpret as reality may not be more than a figment of their imagination and then uses it to develop his own argument. Grau explains that you cannot know whether you are in the dreamworld or the real world, and therefore argues that we cannot be sure that our beliefs about the world are true. Grau manifests that we cannot justify any of our beliefs to be true if, in fact, the possibility that we may always be dreamingis true. Using Descartes personal experience with dreams, about how he often wakes up at night thinking he was at one place when he was actually laying undressed in bed, Grau develops plausible reasoning for not being able to rule out the possibility that we are always dreaming. Grau asserts that there are times when one wakes up from a dream that often seems as vivid and realistic as real life, however, soon after we will find that it is not. Therefore, we find that our experiences of reality in our dreams are just components of our mind. Descartes example of dreams establishes that we cannot trust what we are experiencing to actually be real. How can we prove that we are awake other than

  • 9. Relationship Between Volume And Pressure In determining the relationship between volume and pressure, there are numerous scientific concepts to be considered. Firstly, understanding the concept of gas pressure is extremely important. So what is gas pressure? Gas pressure is the force on the system exerted by the gas. This pressure can be measured using a pressure sensor; it is often measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Additionally, there is a standard pressure, which is 1 atm (standard atmosphere). Pressure is a pushing force, and it is determined by using a tool called a manometer. A manometer works by contrasting the pressure of the surroundings with the pressure of the system. Once it is confirmed that the temperature and number of particles in the system remains constant, the only factor affecting the pressure is the volume occupied by the gas. Higher temperatures result in more pressure, and more particles also result in more pressure, but once temperature and the number of particles are controlled, as the volume increases and decreases the pressure changes accordingly. Pressure has a specific relationship to temperature and the number of particles and these observations are scientifically proven. Pressure has a direct relationship with temperature in kelvins (c+273). This relationship exists because when the volume and number of particles remain unchanged, as the particles heat up, they have more energy and collide more causing more pressure. The absolute zero, or the temperature at which the pressure

They are capable of doing so because of the position that GMCR is in as an emerging
  • 20. Seizures. Seizures/Epilepsy Epilepsy occurs as a result of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Brain cells communicate by sending electrical signals in an orderly pattern. In epilepsy, these electrical signals become abnormal, giving rise to an electrical storm that produces seizures. These storms may be within a specific part of the brain or may be generalized, depending on the type of epilepsy. Epilepsy is the oldest known brain disorder; in the early ages people did not understand the causes, people often thought that it was a demon possession. It was not until the late 1880s that the disease was correctly identified. Dr. John Jackson, a famous English neurologist, was the first person to correctly determine the characteristics of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Normal EEG readings and lack of response to epileptic drugs are clues that they are not true epileptic seizures. These types of seizure may be treated with psychiatric medications. (Devinsky) Some people are aware of the beginning of a seizure, possibly as much as hours or days before it happens. On the other hand, some people may not be aware of the beginning and therefore have no warning. Some people may experience feelings, sensations or changes in behavior hours or days before a seizure. These feelings are generally not part of the seizure, but may warn a person that a seizure may occur. Not everyone may experience these signs, which are an indication that may help a person change their activities. An aura or warning is the first symptom of a seizure, often the aura is an unrecognizable feeling. Other times it s easy to recognize and may be a change in feeling, sensation, thought, or behavior that is similar each time a seizure occurs. The middle of a seizure is often called the ictal phase. It s the period of time from the first symptoms to the end of the seizure activity, This correlates with the electrical seizure activity in the brain. Sometimes the visible symptoms last longer than the seizure activity on an EEG. This is because some of the visible symptoms may be after effects of a seizure or not related to seizure activity at all. As the seizure ends, it is the recovery period. Some people recover immediately while others may take minutes

Ethical Issues In Counseling Profession During this week, there were two events that took place that awaken my awareness of how dangerous the counseling profession is if one doesn t pay close attention to clients/patients and follow all rules and regulations (state, federal, ethical). There was a patient admitted to the floor that was extremely agitated in the ED. He was found dangling off a local bridge and brought in TDO by the police. The patient slept for the first few hours after being admitted to the floor from the ED. When he woke up, he was agitated and began to pace the floor. There was another patient, a 4 foot 9 female, that had been verbally aggressive towards other patients and staff. While the male patient was pacing the floor, the female patient was verbally aggressive towards another patient and the male patient assumed she was talking to him. • 22. The Measuring Of Flow Volume Loops Essay Introduction: The measuring of flow volume loops (FVL) in laboratory settings during exercise are becoming increasingly popular to identify the limiting mechanics of ventilation (Johnson, Beck, Zeballos Weisman, 1999a). The collection of a maximum flow volume loop (MFVL) through a forced maximal maneuver at rest allows researchers to compare a baseline value with tidal loops obtained during exercise (Johnson et al., 1999a). Dominelli and Sheel state that MFVL provides information on an individual s capability to produce volume and flow with respect to their mechanical ceilings (2012). Placing the respective tidal loops associated with different exercise intensities within a resting MFVL shows the difference in volumes during exercise and rest. An MFLV maneuver would yield the largest loop; whereas, the resting tidal loop would be the smallest (Johnson, Weisman, Zeballos Beck, 1999b). Additionally, tidal loops during exercise will fit somewhere between resting and maximal tidal loops; increasing in volume as intensity increases; however, the loops still remain small in comparison to the MFVL (Johnson et al. 1999b). This aforementioned trend observed in healthy individuals during increasingly intense exercise is related to the lack of constraints on ventilation (Johnson et al. 1999b). Major factors responsible for limiting ventilation at rest and during exercise are bronchodilation and bronchoconstriction; these in turn affect total lungcapacity (TLC) a key measure with

More and more people are learning languages and looking for a job in a foreign environment. However, a study conducted in 2010 proposed that having an accent could diminish one s credibility. This finding was widely promoted in a New York Times article named A Failure to Communicate., but was not accurately reported. The research was conducted by Shiri Lev Ari and Boaz Keysar, both of whom possessed accents different from that of native English speakers. They were concerned about how having an accent could impact the credibility of the speaker. There were two reasons accounted for this phenomenon. Firstly, it is illustrated that native speakers are sensitive to foreign accents, which serve as signals for outsiders. These signals then led to prejudices as a result of foreign stereotypes and difficulty in processing speech. Secondly, accented speech could be difficult to comprehend for native speakers. In this study, researchers intended to specifically explain how speakers reliability could be hampered by others comprehension. The researchers attributed the low credibility to the lack of processing fluency . They stated that the ease of processing stimuli could positively affect how the stimuli are evaluated. For example, the idiom Woes unite foes is easy to process because of its rhyme, so people accept it effortlessly. Other evidence of processing fluency is a particular color makes a font easy to read. The story is based on the Sleepy Lagoon murder trials of the 1940s and follows protagonist Henry Reyna. This play deals with the intercultural conflicts between Henry s generation and his parent s, as well as those between Mexican Americans and white Americans. Mexican and American culture is effortlessly blended to show the transcultural influences on Henry and his group of friends. In this historical analysis, I will not only be looking at what historical events influenced this play and the author, but how this play uses those historical influences to showcase the battle of cultural expression in 1940s Los Angeles. Los Angeles was undergoing severe demographic changes in the early 1940 s. Mexican refugees were escaping the Mexican Revolution, farmers were fleeing the Dust bowl, and American servicemen rushed to Los Angeles because of World War II ( People Events ). The economy was booming from the war as American production increased and the youth was appreciating jazz culture and began wearing zoot suits, just like in the play. Because of the Sleepy Lagoon murders, the zoot suitwas associated with Mexican violence. Eventually, fights escalated between the rebelling Mexican American youth and Marines because the racial tensions. This led to the Zoot Suit Riotsof 1943 that left hundreds injured. They believe that the New Testament is a biased and unreliable source for the existence of Jesus. They therefore claim that Jesus did not exist. The historical existence of Jesus is necessary to demonstrate the truth of Christianity. While Christian scholars do not discount the reliability of the New Testament as a historical document, they are also able to point to other historical documents and consider non Christian writings which support the existence of Jesus. In this paper I will argue that Jesus the Nazarene was an actual, historical person and that this can be demonstrated through extra Biblical resources. Tacitus Tacitus, perhaps the greatest Roman historian, provides us with an account of the fire of Rome.1 It is within this account, recorded in The Annals, that Tacitus mentions Jesus. In chapters 38 through 45 of Annals 15, Tacitus discusses how Nero implicated Christians as those responsible for the fire. But neither human resourcefulness nor the emperor s largesse nor appeasement of the gods could stop belief in the nasty rumor that an order had been given for the fire. To dispel the gossip Nero therefore found culprits on whom he inflicted the most exotic punishments. These were people hated for their shameful offences whom the common people called Christians. To prepare an NMR sample, a small amount of sample is dissolved in a deuterated solvent and placed in a tube. Then, the sample tube is placed in an NMR spectrometer and a spectrum depicting the chemical shifts of protons or carbons can be produced. Another instrumental method that helps identify chemical compounds is infrared (IR) spectroscopy. In this type of spectroscopy, molecules are subjected to molecular vibrations from an infrared light source. Frequencies and percent transmittance are plotted in the spectra, which allows for the identification of functional groups (Putzig et al., 1994). This experiment involved the infrared spectroscopy using attenuated total reflectance, or ATR. Specifically, no sample preparation was needed as the unknown samples were directly applied to the IR spectrometer. The IR light beam deeply penetrates and interacts with parts of the compound and reflects off and into the detector (Putzig et al., 1994). The IR spectrum simply depicts the types of functional groups present, but not the actual number of each functional group. The frequencies are measured in wavenumbers, in units of inverse centimeters. Generally, the significant functional groups appear above the 1400 cm 1 region. Heavier molecules and weaker molecules produce lower wavenumbers and vibrate less. One other critical technique to determine the

As a result of the ease of communication through technology, face to face interaction rarely occurs anymore. Long before technology began advancing at a rapid pace, authors used their medium of writing to comment on the dangers of relying on technology too excessively. E.M. The idea really came into light in the 1830 s and 40 s, but really you could see the American s desire to continuously expand all the way back to the 17th and 18th centuries (A Patriot s History of the United States). However, the term itself came from an 1840s Democratic newspaper supporting the Mexican American War. Thomas Jefferson was the first president to have a huge impact on western expansion with the Louisiana Purchase that greatly increased the size of the United States (The Monroe Doctrine and American Expansion). The Purpose Of My Research Conducted For This Paper Was The purpose of my research conducted for this paper was to examine the relationship between Parkinson s disorder and its connection to the anatomy of the human body. Parkinson s is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement due to the loss of Dopamine. Dopamine which is a neurotransmitter located in the brain allows signals to be transported from one nerve cell to another. Its purpose is to regulate both movement and cognition. The loss of these chemical messengers can cause both stiffness of the body and tremors, which are two common effects of Parkinson s. Throughout this paper I will include more information gained through my research of the disease and its relationship to the human body.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several decades after the publishing of An Essay on the Shaking Palsy Charcot took it upon himself to conduct research of his own. Known as The Father of Neurology Charcot differentiated tremors found in Parkinson s disease with those of patients with multiple sclerosis (Aslinia, Kumar, Mazza, 2011). After his findings he found it necessary to pay homage to the first physician who originally brought recognition to this disorder. Naming the disease maladie de Parkinson which in English means Parkinson Disease . What exactly is Parkinson s? Known commonly as a movement disorder. It affects movement, muscle control, and balance. It is the second most common progressive neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer s disease, and the second most prevalent and disabling condition in the expanding elderly population (Mikkelsen,Stinson, 2011, pg xix). For those that aren t aware what neurodegenerative means it s simply the loss of nerve cells. Nerve cells which are also known as neurons are located in the nervous system. Neurons are broken down into three different types. They are sensory (receptor), motor (effector), and interneurons (connector). Each one of these neurons plays a different role in the nervous system. The purpose of neurons is to receive incoming information and in return send signals to other neurons, muscles or glands. Neurons are made up of three parts. First the cell body which controls the neuron

Mark Edmundson Anti-Idealism In Mark Edmundson s Polemical Introduction to his novel, Self and Soul, he analyzes how the modern world has lost the ideals held by the ancient world, such as the heroic ideal, the religious ideal, and the ideal of contemplation. Edmundson cites the loss of these ideals through modern writers, such as Shakespeare and Freud. Edmundson specifically calls Freud a relentless enemy of the warrior ideal, the religious ideal, and the ideal of transcendent philosophy. The truth in Edmundson s analysis of Freud s anti idealist view can be seen in Freud s novel, Civilization and Its Discontents. In this novel, Edmundson s assessment is most evident that Freud sees a desire to follow ideals as a fall to illusion, as well as Freud s obvious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These attempts can be defined through Freud s pleasure principle, which aimed for an absence of pain and unpleasure, and, on the other hand, at the experiencing of strong feelings of pleasure (42). Therefore, happiness is not really possible all the time, as it seems to only come from unhappiness, or a release from unpleasure. Since the purpose of life is not to be happy but rather, only to survive, it calls in to question whether there is a meaning to life brought upon by a higher power. Freud s idea of transcendency and the purpose of life seems to be answered when he writes, the question of the purpose of human life has been raised countless times; it has never yet received a satisfactory answer and perhaps does not admit of one (41 42). His answer seems that be that there is no real purpose to existence, except for survival; rather, life only has the meaning that we give it. Overall, this seems to be very dismissive of the idea of a higher power, deity, or purpose, which is represented the ancient world ideal of transcendent philosophy. Another ideal that Edmundson saw as one held by the ancient world was that of the heroic ideal, which Edmundson typified through Achilles and Hector, who characterized the warrior soldier and the citizen soldier, who
