2. the effects of divorce on children and adolescents Essay...
The effects of Divorce on Children and adolescents
Divorce or the parent separation is a major life change for the children and can
lead to dreadful consequences. Divorce affects children and adolescents
negatively, from different aspects resulting from the change in their family and
the multiple stressors that they are facing.
The Psychological, educational, emotional and social effects of divorce can be
really devastating for both parent and children. Children and adolescents have
different ways of dealing with divorce, which reveal their emotions and feelings
towards their parent separation.
Divorce has a negative effect on the psychological and emotional aspect.

4. Women s Destruction In Native American Myth
Myth a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of people or explaining some
natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events. Motif a
distinctive feature or dominant idea in an artistic or literary composition. Destruction the action or
process of causing so much damage to something that it no longer exists or cannot be repaired.
Women since the beginning of time have been blamed and ridiculed for every single thing they do.
But it seems that nobody really has wondered why this is the way it is. Why is it that women are
under the microscope for everything? Looking back into the myths that explain our creation,
women are the main person to blame. Myths blame women for the destruction... Show more content

The most important duties for a city dwelling woman were to bear children preferably male and
to run the household. In the myth Pandora s box, Pandora was created as a punishment to the
mankind. Zeus wanted to punish people because Prometheus stole the fire to give it to mankind.
Her gifts were beautifully evil, according to Hesiod. Hephaestus created her from clay, shaping
her perfectly, Aphrodite gave her femininity and Athena taught her crafts. Hermes was ordered
by Zeus to teach her to be deceitful, stubborn and curious. Pandora was given a box or a jar,
called pithos in Greek. Gods told her that the box contained special gifts from them but she was
not allowed to open the box ever. Then Hermes took her to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus,
to be his wife. Prometheus had advised Epimetheus not to accept anything from the Gods, but he
saw Pandora and was astonished by her beauty, thus he accepted her right away. Pandora was
trying to tame her curiosity, but at the end, she could not hold herself anymore; she opened the
box and all the illnesses and hardships that gods had hidden in the box started coming out.
Pandora was scared because she saw all the evil spirits coming out and tried to close the box as fast
as possible, closing Hope inside. Due to Pandora s curiosity, she not only let evil out into the word
but closed hope inside of

5. Juvenile Crime In Juveniles
There is an amplified rate of recurrence with which dangerous or habitual youthful offenders are
judged in criminal court and then imprisoned in adult prison. The biggest increase in youthful
offender crime has been among the youngest offenders. A juvenile is a young person, mostly a
child. In the early 1800s, children used to be judged in the identical court as adults. They were
exposed to the same conditions as adult offenders and even received the same penalties and
punishments. In 1822, an organization (society for the reformation of juvenile delinquent)
conducted research, which showed that the penitentiary system of the United States could not
fully cater to the specific needs of the juveniles. (Weis, Crutchfield Bridges, 2001) They further
suggested the invention of a different court for the juveniles. Towards the late 1800s, the United
States experienced a movement that advocated for a clear cut line to be drawn between adult and
juvenile offenders. (Mays Ruddell, 2012) More groups advocating for the same emerged, they
were arguing on a common fact, that children and adults are very unusual and bear distinctly
different levels of thinking. They were not perfect; there were reports of abuse and mistreatment.
In 1899, however, the Illinois Juvenile Court Act of 1899 was passed and the first Juvenile court
was established in that state. The act considered anyone under the age of sixteen years as a
Juvenile. It insisted on a rehabilitative approach to the solving of

6. Essay On The Secret Of Humanity
Humanity is a term that is used to describe essential characteristics of a human s nature. When
most people think of humanity, they would think of it as having the emotional right to feel for
others, compassion and morally good behaviors. While I do agree with this, in regard to this film, I
view humanity as the total opposite. With the world evolving and changing every day, the
definition of humanity has no exact answer. I would align the broad term of humanity with the
phrase survival of the fittest, meaning that a person would do anything it takes to survive in this
world. In the film The Secret of NIMH, it uses various animals to show many different perspectives
of humanity that people have on a humans nature. While characters such... Show more content on

This is very uncommon for a small animal such as herself to be doing alone, especially with a
huge cat by the name of Dragon lurking nearby. These actions alone demonstrate the depth of
risks that she would take in order to save her children and her home. By her going out of her way
to protect her loved ones, this shows the loving and determined characteristics she has as a mother
which could possibly be described as being humane.
Another character that many people may say have various aspects of humanity is Sullivan.
Personally, Sullivan is a very interesting character in my opinion. Sullivan is Jenner s gullible,
reluctant sidekick and temperamental pushover. Although he may seem very vulnerable, Jenner
has a significant identity of his own. For example in the scene where the rats of NIMH were in
the council chamber discussing their ideas about relocating to Thorn Valley, Sullivan was very
intense and passionate about his opinions and he was not afraid to robustly voice them at all. I
would also describe Sullivan s position in this movie as an anti villain due to his nervous and
hesitant reactions when he and Jenner concocts the plan to kill Nicodemus. Jenner takes full
advantage of Sullivan s weakness and manipulates him until Sullivan has change of mind during the
act of killing Nicodemus. Many people could argue that Sullivan s neutral position and his change
of heart in order to do the right thing justifies that he

7. Ethical Arguments For And Against Torture
International conflict has evolved in recent decades from wars among nations to cat and mouse
games of terrorism and counterterrorism between nations and non state factions. National defense
requires the development of reliable intelligence to prevent horrific acts of violence. The U.S.
Central Intelligence Agency s use of enhanced interrogation techniquesto extract information from
suspected terrorists has led to considerable debate of the morality and usefulness of torture. The
moral dilemma asks whether agents of a democratic government should disregard the nation s
founding principles of liberty and the rule of law for the purpose of preventing a potential act of
violenceagainst its citizens. The answer to the moral question has policy implications about the
conduct and costs of national... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay will explore the moral arguments for and against torture and the policy implications of
those arguments. The moral defense of torture, however, ultimately rests on unrealistic scenarios
and would require policies that, in themselves, pose ethical challenges. The United States can do
better than resort to torture to protect itself. Torture is condemned by worldwide consensus through
documents such as the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Mappes, Zembaty DeGrazia,
2012, p. 345). Torture involves detaining someone suspected of planning violent acts or who may
know of such plans, thereby violating the individual s right to liberty (p. 384). It is also defined by
extreme interrogation techniques that cause mental or physical pain, such as simulated drowning
or Alan Dershowitz s example of poking sterile needles under fingernails to get information (p. 345).
Generally speaking, ethical theories would condemn torture.

11. The Bob Ross Painting Method
Bob Ross and his happy little friends have introduced millions of PBS viewers to the world of
art. Bob may be gone but his gentle legacy of painting technique continues to charm and instruct.
Not only are there books and DVDs available, but a full line of Bob Ross painting supplies are
sold on line and in select venues. There are also over 3000 certified Bob Ross instructors

How Does He Do That?
The Bob Ross painting method is the wet in wet technique. Artists have used this method for
hundreds of years, and for the oil painter is the fastest method to use.
The Bob Ross oil paints are specially formulated to meet the consistencies he prefers in the various
colors on his palette. He also has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This results in the edges remaining crisp while the bulk of the mountain takes on a misty, grayed
appearance, due to the blending of the background paint into the dark of the mountain paint.
Evergreen Trees
Just as with clouds, Bob uses the fan brush to paint evergreen trees. The paint is heavily loaded
onto a fan brush. Using the edge lay a very fine vertical line to represent the treetop. Use the
corner to dab tiny bits of paint to represent the uppermost branches of the tree on the sides of the
vertical line. As the artist progresses down the trunk, he applies more pressure and uses more of
the edge of the brush. Use a choppy, erratic motion to emulate the uneven, jagged shapes of the
evergreen. The underlying layer of paint will blend with the tree color as the brush runs out of
paint. Add more as necessary, but do not try to keep all the branches the same color. This is
representational, and not meant to be graphically correct. It is the essence of the tree and there is
no need to go for authenticity.
Wildlife
In the Ross method of painting wildlife, preparation is different from painting landscapes. The
canvas is thinly coated with grey gesso and allowed to dry thoroughly. Draw or transfer the subject
to the canvas using graphite carbon paper.
Rather than using the wet in wet technique, this painting starts with an underpainting of the animal
using grey, black and white acrylic paint. The student proceeds with oils

interested in learning about Knowledge Management, Business Intelligence and Analytics because
of how useful it is and how profitable it can be if used properly. Most companies are using big

their customers while increasing profits. They are not only using it to see past behaviors but they
are also using it to forecast and predict future customer actions. If they know who their ideal

The Parent Trap is a film from 1998 that takes place in London, Napa (California) and Maine.
First it begins in the Summer Camp in Maine, where two redheads Annie and Hallie
coincidentally meet. In there they found out that they were twins and that the last 12 years they
have lived apart, but not only from each other also from their parents. As well they decided to
change places, so Hallie instead of going to Napa with his father, goes with her mom to London
and Annie with his dad to Napa. After the unconventional plan of reunited their parents, they
decided that they needed to know more about each other, so the plan could work. Eventually it
was the end of the summer camp, so each sister went to their new home, but in the end their
parents figure it out. The kids try to be subtle because only her mom knew about the switch.

in this movie the actress was Hayley Mills. This film has the same story of the one of Lindsay
Lohan, but in this one the events change, it tells you about that two sisters were separated since
birth, and one lived in Boston and the other one in California. In my opinion I think that both
movies are good, but honestly, IВґd rather watch the one of Lindsay Lohan. Supposing you never

What has infection obtained to do with joint affliction? By and large, a healthful immune

Explanations of joint discomfort as a result of chronic infection The reasons of persistent

sophisticated carbohydrates and even as too low in primary fatty acids. A excessive carbohydrate
diet can extend for a very long time in terms of excessive stages of insulin which is able to disrupt

Plants are the major source of vitamin B6 for animals, yet the biosynthesis pathway and the
function of vitamin B6 in plants are not well elucidated. In this study, an Arabidopsis pyridoxine
synthase gene PDX1 was characterized and its in vivo functions were investigated. The PDX1 gene
was expressed in all plant parts examined and its expression level was not significantly regulated
by abiotic stress or the phytohormone abscisic acid. In roots, PDX1 was highly expressed in a
defined region behind the root tips that undergoes rapid cell division. The PDX1 protein was mainly
associated with the plasma membrane and endomembranes, implying a potential involvement of
vitamin B6 in membrane function. To reveal the in vivo role of PDX1, Arabidopsis insertional
mutants were isolated. Strikingly, the pdx1 knockout mutants were impaired in root growth and
early seedling development. The stunted roots resulted from both reduced cell division and
elongation. Supplementation of the growth media with pyridoxine or reintroduction of the wild
type PDX1 gene into the mutants completely restored the mutant growth, demonstrating that PDX1
is required for pyridoxine biosynthesis in planta. In addition to the developmental defects, pdx1
mutants are hypersensitive to osmotic stress and oxidative stress. These mutant seedlings had
increased peroxidation of membrane lipids following UV treatment. Our study establishes a
17. Who Is Dido In The Aeneid
On the Deaths of Dido and Turnus
In Virgil s Aeneid, the hero is frequently referred to by the epithet Pius Aeneas, or in English,
Aeneas the True . While pius does not necessarily translate to pious in English, it does carry the
connotation of being good and dutiful, in whatever ways the context demands. In Aeneas case, he is
dutiful to the gods and to the quest they give him, as well as to his homeland, his people, and those
close to him in that order. In the Aeneid, there are two times in particular where his sense of duty
conflicts with his personal interest, and both of these situations end in a death. The first are the
events that lead to the death of the Carthaginian queen Dido, and the second are those that lead to

Juno, unwilling to let the Trojans settle in Latium, sets the populace against them. This populace
is lead by their princess betrothed, Prince Turnus. The war culminates in the second, less official
duel between Turnus and Aeneas. The gods intervene on both sides until Jupiter and Venus
convince Juno to surrender, right before the end of the duel. A Fury scares Turnus out of his
strength, allowing Aeneas to win the duel. It s clear that he considers Turnus plea to stretch not
your hatred further , until he sees that his defeated opponent is wearing Pallas baldric as a
trophy and kills him on the spot (XII, 338). This death tells the reader more about Aeneas
character than Dido s did. In this case, there were two dutiful options, rather than only the one
which had existed in Carthage. On one hand, Aeneas could have allowed Turnus to go home,
following the advice of his father, Anchises, who told him that the duty of the future Roman
civilization was to show mercy to the conquered, and to wage war until the haughty are brought
low. (VI, 173). On the other hand, he could avenge his close friend, Pallas, a duty of honor. The
choice was left to Aeneas the True, to decide which duty he should follow. His quest is complete:
he is in Italy, and either way, this decision will end the war. When he does choose, it s obviously
spur of the moment, allowing the reader to

Do you consider yourself a part of the upper class? In the society in which we live in today, it is
widely known that people at higher social classes obtain finer access to premier education. On
account of the statement previously mentioned, prestigious institutions steer the way to more
business relationships and eventually, a greater chance of obtaining a higher income due to
increased job opportunities presented through connections and networking. This concept is known
as elitism and is fairly popular belief amongst the competitive population. Elitism is the belief that
certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of
their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources1 . But I would like to
question the basic premise of this argument since there is something more than just wealth which
determines one s social class. The argument I make throughout my paper focuses on the aspect of
why attractive people are, on average, wealthier and have higher paying jobs than less attractive
people. This statement is a theory I do not stand by alone. In order to persuade and convince to
my readers that attractive people are more successful, I will be citing documentation of well
known facts reported by leading psychologists, economists, and their research studies. A book that
I occasionally will be referencing to is Beauty Pays: Why Attractive People Are More Successful

During the night of July 1, 1947, the 509th airfield base in New Mexico was on high alert. They
were catching blips of something, something that moved too fast to be any earthly aircraft. The
small flashing dots would start at one corner of the radar and dart to the opposite, moving at

By the time the military had its own aircraft in the sky, the intruders were already gone. This told
the commanders that they were under strong surveillance by a presence that could only be hostile.
At first, no one considered the possibility of flying saucers or extraterrestrials, despite the
abundance of sighting and newspaper stories the last few weeks of Spring. There hadn t been any
close encounters , so it seemed impossible. The army officers of both White Sands and the 509th
believed the aircraft to be Russians, spying on the country s first nuclear bomber base and its
guided missile launching site.
The Army Counterintelligence sent their best World War II Operatives to Roswell. CIC personnel
began to show up when the reports of strange radar blips where file through the intelligence and
they kept coming as the reports piled up.
On the day of July 4, 1947, the blips appeared to be changing shape. As they moved back and
forth on the radar, they seemed to be pulsating, glowing very bright and then dimming. The pattern
of its movements suddenly changed as it darted to the lower left hand quadrant of the screen,
disappeared for a moment, and then exploded in a magnificent white fluorescent light and
evaporated before the officers eyes. The radar screen was clear. The pulsating blips were gone. All

Due to the extensive amount of harm that photo manipulation causes, it is an ethical issue. Digital
photo manipulation in women causes widespread harm, long lasting damage to women s self
esteem and other negative psychological thought processes. Research has also found that it causes
a large number of eating disorders. It does this by making women chase the ideal, thin body image
that is being portrayed in the different pictures and advertisements. There was a study done that
examined both the thin ideal and body classification. Results from this showed that viewing the

A false idea of what one actually looks like is being portrayed within the photograph. They are
providing the viewers with an inaccurate and unreliable picture. It is also important to know who
the parties involved in this issue are. The company that decides to alter the image is first handedly
involved in this matter. The model that is posing for the shot, which in this case are the women
that are being altered, are also involved. Lastly, the viewers of the photograph, which includes all
of society and their target audience of females are involved as well.
Knowing the relevant laws when analyzing this issue is crucial as well. Given that the First
Amendment grants people with the freedom of speech, these companies are allowed freedom of
press as well. This allows the companies to do what they want with the images they have. They are
allowed to advertise for their company however they choose, regardless of outside opinions on their
methods. They can send whatever message, whether indirect or not to their audience without any
restrictions. However there are some company policies that these businesses try to follow. First and
foremost they try to market however they think will get them or their product the most attention.
They do this at the cost of unethical photo manipulation. Some different companies such as Dove
and Aerie have spoken out against this issue and have started campaigns of their own in response to

27. A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry
Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun is a remarkable play written in 1959 by an African
American author about an African American family. This time period was in the early days of the
modern awakening of civil rights awareness. It was a timely play challenging the then current
stereotypical view of a black familyby depicting a realistic portrayal of a specific black family with
aspirations, hopes, dreams, dignity, and ambition as would be expected from all families regardless
of race. The play is also timeless because it presents relevant themes of preserving family unity
and breaking through racial stereotypes that still challenge current society. Robin Bernstein s
critical analysis Inventing a Fishbowl: White Supremacy and the Critical Reception of Lorraine
Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun , cites a reviewer from the Philadelphia Inquirer who asserts that
this play is both timely and timeless. We do not know if Miss Hansberry has written a timeless
play ... but she has certainly written a timely one. (Bernstein 23), furthermore Bernstein cites
George Murray noted in the Chicago American that the play couldn t be better timed for box office
success. Its advent coincide with a rising wave of general interest in the Negro. (Bernstein 23).

archeological works, the burial sites for the Scandinavian Bronze Age man have been seen to be

30. The Impact Of Aviation On The United States
You haven t seen a tree until you have seen its shadow from the sky. Amelia Earhart, the first
woman to fly a solo nonstop trans Atlantic aircraft, spoke these words about the joys of flight in
1932. She and others, such as Orville and Wilbur Wright, Charles H. Lindbergh, and Frank
Whittle, recognized early on how aviation would change our view of the world. Since these early
discoveries of aviation, society has relied on flight as a primary means for safe transportation.
This feeling of security was challenged on September 11, 2001, when nineteen hijackers took
control of four commercial airliners and aimed the planes at targets in the United States. These
terrorists attacks, referred to as 9/11, created the need for improved airport and airlinesecurity and
reformed the United States Government s entire security strategy and infrastructure.
Aviation has long existed as target for criminals, mentally deranged, and more recently, terrorists.
John Graham blew up United DC 6 over Colorado in 1955 with twenty five sticks of dynamite in
his suitcase. In the 1960s, hijackers would commonly take over flights and divert them to Cuba.
The government responded by developing laws with tougher penalties. On November 24, 1971,
D.B.Cooper had a bomb with him on the plane and passed a note to the flight attendant explaining
that he would detonate the bomb if he were not given $200,000. After receiving the ransom, he
forced the plane to take off again, parachuted out of the aft door,

Saul Alvarez English 101 The Plight of Low Income Individuals and Their Families According
to the PRB article U.S. Low Income Working Families Increasing , 42.7% of people live below
the poverty line, with 32.1% of them living 200% below the poverty line; this group is
categorized as the low income group.(PRB) 59% of low income working families have one or
more minority parents. Living in a low income community limits one s standard of living through
academic gaps, the selection of food available, an ever present fear of victimization , and a lack
of resources available to both children and adults. The differences in academic gaps between
children and teenagers from low income neighborhoods and affluent neighborhoods present
themselves in the schools the students attend. A study by the Department of Education showed
that students in low income areas did not have access to the same rigorous courses, and when
they did, the resources available to the low income students was lacking compared to the
resources the students in high income neighborhoods had access to. In the low income areas black
and Hispanic students were twice as likely to have teachers with less experience, with one or two
years in the profession, compared to schools in affluent neighborhoods with well to do white
students. Another thing increasing the academic gap is that only 22 percent of local districts
reported offering pre kindergarten or other early learning programs for low income children.

How would you feel if you were told that you and your beloved ones will face a terrible disaster

Indian ocean tsunami that was on December 26, 2004 when a giant earthquake occurred in the
Indian ocean and unleashed a series of killer waves towards more than thirteen countries in which
the most affected ones were Sumatra in Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Maldives. In this essay
we will discuss the cause of this tsunami and its environmental, humanitarian and economic impact
in the worst affected countries, Indonesia.
First of all, to understand the meaning of the tsunami, we have to know first the causes of it.

Bernard, tsunami generally occurred when a sudden large disturbance happens in the undersea

36. Star Wars Nonverbal Communication
Throughout the movie of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith you can see a plethora of examples of
interpersonal communication between the due of Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. The
major three that are seen throughout the film are conflict, emotions, and their nonverbal
communication. The conflict is the most serious compenment in this movie because you can sense
the conflict that is brewing, and when it explodes, it is massive. The conflict that is used in this
film is what makes the emotions of the film so exuberant. Then with these two characters being
together as master and apprentice in the two previous films of the trilogy their non verbal
communication is key to their relationship. Being able to have good interpersonal communication
is key to any duo, and Obi Wan and Anakin show that they have this chemistry.
A major concept throughout the movie is the conflict that goes on between the characters of Obi
Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Described by Floyd (2017), as an expressed struggle between
interdependent [parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from
one another (p. 343). There are many characteristic of interpersonal conflict, a few include, conflict
is natural, conflict can direct and indirect, and conflict can be harmful and beneficial. Sex, gender,
and culture are just some of the many things that can affect an interpersonal conflict. Another major
aspect of conflict is power, which comes in many forms (Floyd, 2017).

A Criticism of Akio Toyota s Speech for Recall Issues Apologetic discourse is a very important
form for the accused to express their sorry, defend their reputation and regain speakers support or

efforts to present its contents. Apologia (from Greek бјЂПЂОїО»ОїОіОЇО±, speaking in defense )
is a formal defense of a position or action. (Oxford DictionaryпјЊ2016) In modern usage, apologia
describes a formal defense and should not be confused with the sense of the word apology as the
expression of regret. (Merriam Webster Dictionary.пјЊ2016) It is apparent that an apologia is more
like speaker s self defense, which is pretty consistent with what Ware and Linkugel testified in
their article They Spoke in Defense of Themselves: on the Generic Criticism of Apologia . Thus
in this paper, the author will make some appropriate and reasonable comments on Akio Toyota s

intervene, since the child s death would be directly intended while the mother s would not. On a
strict parallel with cases not involving the unborn we might find the conclusion correct though the

mother turns into the need and not the baby. In this manner, the therapeutic professional ought to

On the other hand, on health grounds where the life of the mother and the child and that of the

44. George Washington University History Course Analysis
My Freshman year of college, I was a mechanical engineering student at the George Washington
University. It was there that I learned how difficult school could really be. My past schooling
experience had not prepared me for this extremely rigorous program. As one of my requirements
for the program was a social science, I had registered for a history course my first semester.
Unknowingly, I had registered for a third year history class, clearly not the correct class for a
freshman engineering student. I went on to struggle with the amount of work that was assigned for
the course including an 18 page research paper. This course, on top of the difficult engineering
curricula was extremely challenging. At this point, I also realized that although... Show more

in the field of Environmental Science. In addition, the Center for Environmental Prediction is an
organization that shares my concern and commitment to the environment. I am hoping to become
involved with the CEP and conduct research and lobbying in conjunction with them. I am also
attracted to Rutgers because it has the best of both worlds from a campus standpoint. I can
enjoy the more rural Cook/Douglass campuses and truly experience nature at places like the
Bamboo garden and the log cabin hiking trails. Yet, just a bus ride away is the hustle and bustle
of George Street and the College Avenue campus. I believe that by attending Rutgers, I can learn
in a professional, experienced environment with access to knowledgeable faculty and leading
edge technology and research. More importantly, I believe that the Rutgers Curriculum can
allow me to develop the skillset I need to actually make a difference. Classes on solar energy and
environmental tax policy serve as the environmentalist s weapons in the fight for our planet. I
want to use Rutgers as a resource to help not only myself, but the entire planet. When I think
about the term world changing , I think free clean energy for a nation, zero dependence on fossil
fuels, and stopping the extinction of several keystone species. The world is in a delicate balance
now more than ever. With the geopolitical scale shifting the way it is, environmentalists will face
the greatest challenge yet to protect and preserve. Now it is my time to step up and do my part, all

48. Preparation of Aspirin and Determination of the Melting Point
PREPARATION OF ASPIRIN AND
DETERMINATION OF THE MELTING POINT
Ferrer, Lara Melissa V.
Faculty of Engineering
University of Santo Tomas
Manila, Philippines
ABSTRACT
This experiment involved three steps: synthesis of aspirin, isolation and purification, and the
estimation of purity of the final product. The synthesis involved the reaction of salicylic acid and
acetic anhydride in the presence of a catalyst, phosphoric acid, H3PO4. When the aspirin was
prepared, it was isolated and filtered. The percentage yield of the synthesis was calculated to be
78.42%. The experimental melting point range of aspirin was determined to be 122 132В°C. Due
to its wide range, and lower value than that of the theoretical melting point of 136В°C, it was ...

Salicylic acid is also used in a variety of other personal care items such as dandruff shampoo,
antiseptic and toothpaste. [2] METHODOLOGY
3.0g of salicylic acid was weighed then 3.0mL of acetic anhydride and 6 drops of 85% H3PO4
were added to it. The mixture was warmed over a water bath for 5 minutes while stirring. After
warming, 20 drops of distilled water was slowly added. 15mL of water was added then the solution
was heated until it became clear. It was allowed to cool and was placed in an ice bath until the
solution becomes cloudy. Using pre weighed filter paper, the mixture was filtered and was allowed
to dry in the filter paper.
In determining the melting point range of the aspirin, a capillary tube (sealed at one end) was one
third filled with the dried aspirin. The capillary tube and a thermometer were immersed in an oil
bath. The temperature at which the solid started to melt and the temperature when the entire sample
was completely liquefied were recorded as the melting point temperature range.
DISCUSSION OF DATA AND RESULTS
Aspirin was synthesized by reacting salicylic acid with acetic anhydride in the presence of
phosphoric acid, H3PO4, as a catalyst:
The aspirin was synthesized when it was placed in a cold bath. Purification was necessary to
remove any unreacted salicylic acid and acetic anhydride as well as the acetic product and

49. Synthetic Vs. Natural Polymers
Synthetic vs Natural Polymers in Conditioning Shampoos
Introduction and Thesis
Cosmetics have been used for thousands of years to enhance the visual appearance of people, either
through ritualistic or aesthetic motivations. With the turn of the 20th Century, the growing trend of
the film industry caused an uprising in the commercialism of cosmetic products. This coincided
with the increasing development in the chemistry industry, to accommodate the multi billion dollar
industry which is present today. Previously, cosmetics were extracted out of natural resources such
as minerals and natural plants, however it became necessary to synthetically produce some
components included in cosmetics to accommodate the major increase in product demand (Polymer
Solutions, 2014). Polymers are the second largest class of ingredients in the cosmetic industry
(Lochhead, 2016).
Polymers are molecules made up of a large number of low molecular mass units, or monomers, that
are covalently bonded together (Cosmeticsandtoiletries.com, 2016; Gruber, 2016). The combination
of monomers in a chain determines the structure, performance and physical properties of each
polymer. The backbone of a polymer includes repeating monomers; if there is only one repeating
monomer than it is a homopolymer; if there is more than one repeating monomer then this forms a
copolymer, which can either be linear or branched depending on the side groups attached
(Cosmeticsandtoiletries.com, 2016; Draelos, 2016).

50. The Issue Of The Abortion Policy Essay
The topic on the issue of the abortion policy is one that has been around for decades. This topic
is one that has caused great controversy throughout the course of history, prompting individuals
to side either, pro choice or pro life, allowing little room for any gray area. Regardless of which
position one sides with, there has been, and possibly always will be, strong emotions and feeling
attached with the topic. The connation and denotation attached with both sides has prompted
discussion on not just the issue at hand, but, as well as, the personal views and possible
repercussions stemming from said views. There are a multitude of different U.S. Health Policies
that fall under the umbrella of abortion. However, there is one specific policy that especially
caught my attention. The specific abortion I would like to focus on is the Hyde Amendment,
which withholds federal funding from abortions, unless the pregnancy is a danger to mother, or a
product of rape or incest. ( S.142 113th Congress (2013 2014): Hyde Amendment Codification Act
) First and foremost, before I can discuss the aspects of the Hyde Amendment, I must first give an
overview into the history of abortion. Although one of the, if not the, most notable cases
surrounding the abortion topic is Roe v. Wade, the history of abortion dates farther back than that
one monumental case in the issues in abortion policies timeline. Abortion techniques have dated
back as early as 1550 BC in ancient Egypt, where the

51. Macbeth Movie Vs Play Essay
The goal of the movie, Great Performances: Macbeth, is not to change the original play to mean
something different, but to enhance it. The original play was already successful in conveying to
the readers or viewers the effects of guilt and evil, but the movie made it even more intense
because of the level of intimacy between the screen and the audience. The director did make some
changes to the original play, such as the setting, but those changes did not alter the moral of the
story in any way. Despite some differences between the original work and Great Performances:
Macbeth, the movie helps to convey Shakespeare s original plot, characters, and themes in a deeper
sense.

The motifs cause the reader to feel certain emotions toward specific actions including the deaths
described in the play. For example, when King Duncan is killed the reader of the play is shocked
but does not blame Macbeth for going through with the murder because the prophecy given by the
witches had to come true eventually. The movie portrays this accurately because the viewer is able
to tell through his facial expressions and staccato speech that Macbeth feels strong guilt for going
through with the murder. The prophecies told by the three witches are able to control Macbeth s
actions and his future because they are all fulfilled in both the original play and contemporary
movie. Another theme presented in the play that is included in the movie is the pity for the
characters suffering from hallucinations. The film strongly focuses on this theme because it is able
to let the audience see what the guilty character is seeing and reality at the same time. In the dinner
party scene, Macbeth sees Banquo s ghost covered in blood and

52. Comparing Aristotle And John Stuart Mill
Chelsea Kearney
PHIL 231: Ethics
28 April 2015
Essay 2
Comparisons on Pleasure in Morality
The role of pleasure in morality has been examined thoroughly throughout the beginning of
philosophy and continues to be a questionable issue. With these in depth examinations, some
similar outlooks as well as differing views have been recorded. Many philosophers have dissected
this important topic, however I intend to concentrate of the famous works of Aristotle, Immanuel
Kant, and John Stuart Mill. After meticulously analyzing each of the above philosophers texts, I
personally prefer the position of utilitarian and Benthamite, John Stuart Mill. After comparing and
contrasting the positions and reasonings of these philosophers, I will demonstrate my own reasons
why I have chosen John Stuart Mill as the most established in his theory of the role of pleasure in
morality.
Aristotle was a particularly influential Grecian philosopher and student of Plato who lived from
384BC 322BC (ADD CITATION). Within Nicomachean Ethics
, Aristotle outlines the thoughts of
the general population along with his regards and rationales in explaining many philosophical
premises. But to concentrate on how Aristotle feels about the role of pleasure in morality, Aristotle
introduces the idea that most people think happiness involves pleasure. He goes on to interpret the
roles of different pleasures and their virtues and vices, giving examples such as as bodily pleasures
and soul pleasures.

53. Ageism, Or Prejudice And Discrimination Associated With A...
Ageism, or the prejudice and discrimination associated with a person s age, has become a widely
researched topic among scholars over the last few decades. The deficit model of ageing
characterizes old age as a pathological condition in which individuals undergo physical and
mental decline (Allen, 2011). Growing old has developed into a major social problem in
Western culture, and most individuals accept the stereotypes and stigma related to ageing.
Companies, often phase out older employees by hiring young individuals who are perceived as
being less of a risk, and more of an asset to the company. The exclusion of older individuals is
especially prevalent in industries related to media and professional sports. Media, favors young
individuals because they convey an image of beauty, vigour, and energy. Similarly, professional
athletes are often forced to retire early, due to the recruitment process of professional sports teams.
The objective of this study aims to uncover ageism in the dancecommunity, because dance
combines beauty and athleticism, two traits that are considered to decline with age.
The study discusses age discrimination within the dance community through an exploration of
previous research conducted on the topic, and a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with
three dancers via email. The dancers who participated in this study discuss their background as
dancers, their age, and their perception of age as a dancer. The participants acknowledge that

Ships have been around for thousands of years, we used them to conquer other countries, to
transport food and people, and for our enjoyment. Every ship that has been made, was unique.
The Vikings made ships in different sizes, shapes, and made out of different types of wood.
Ships have evolved from a huge row boat, to a steam boat, to a huge engine and with lots of little
changes in between. We always need someone to make sure that those ships are running perfect
and that it will make it home safe. Those people that work in the ships are called Marine Engineers
they are the ones that make sure the ships will make it home. One very important marine engineer
was Robert Fultonhe was the person who created the steam boat and first to try and put an engine
on a boat. Even though we have been making bigger and better ships we still look back at the older
ships and how the Marine Engineeringbegan and how our ships have changed.
Boats were made before 4000 BC but most of these boats were rafts, logs of bamboo, bundles of
reeds, air filled animal skins tied together to float down the river or any little body of water. The
first boat was a hallowed out log that was like a canoe. That was estimated to be made around
8000 BC. The sail boat was made around 4000 BC it was made out little logs tied together with
intestine and leaves. They made a sail out of reeds, this boat was called the Egyptian reed boats.

Reflecting upon the title of this essay, The American People Are Too
Sensible to Waste Their Time Upon Such Silly Rot, taken from the review of

that the novel did receive a certain amount of public success. Chesnutt
revealed the popularity of the novel to daughter Ethel in October of its

review is obviously a mean spirited attack by a racist reviewer, and is
ultimately ironic in that it did not accurately depict the sentiments of
the reading public. And in a series of letters to Booker T. Washington
Chesnutt expresses his belief that the novel has helped him to arrive as
a popular novelist. He also notes the probable popularity of the novel in
