Narrative Essay On Megan s Law
On a stormy day in midsummer, with clouds swirling overhead and rain drops pounding down on the
earth, one couple raced to the hospital in need of medical attention. Their hearts were pounding,
adrenalin coursing within their veins, and butterflies filling their stomachs among other things. They
were nervous and slightly scared for what might happen once they arrive. They had finally made it to
the parking lot of the hospital; they suddenly find themselves gathering their essential belongings, so
ready to embark into the other side of unknown that awaited them behind those hospital doors. But
they stopped, only for a moment to look one another in the eyes and give that unspoken go ahead that
they were ready to stand together no matter what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among many laws and acts that were signed and pushed through during his presidency one that
Clinton moved to pass was Megan s Law. This law was created following the saddening incident
involving the rape and murder of a seven year old girl, Megan Kanka. Megan and her family had been
unknowingly living right across the street from Jesse Timmendequas, a formerly convicted sex
offender. One day Jesse lured Megan to into his home with the false promise of letting her see his new
puppy and then attacked the child. This terrible event set in motion this law that would require each
state to register and track any formally convicted sexual predators into a system. The state would be
responsible for making the community aware of any offenders moving into the area. The law also
stated that any second time offender would be sentenced to life in prison with no opportunity for
parole. This law put in place helpful tools to keep vulnerable and innocent children out of harm s way.
It was a part of history in the effort to prevent more sexual assaults on children, teens and even adults.
In a way this law was passed with me in mind. So that as I got older and began playing in the yard, or
riding my bike out front we d as least know of any dangerous individuals that very well could be our
next door neighbor where near. It was quite sad in all honesty to find out that in studies conducted in
the 2000 s that Megan s Law had to no real effect on the issue at hand. But at the time I merely an
infant focused on putting anything and everything in my

Analysis Of Ryan s The Flies
Similar to a circle, Ryan s face is rounded just enough for his Aunt to love it. Despite a chubby face
and fingers, his body is small. Fragile. In the six years of his life he has come to enjoy learning new
concepts. He understands that to draw a house he must start with a square base. A roof is nothing more
than a triangle on top. Add two squares for Windows and a rectangle for a door and Ryan has drawn a
squiggly lined house. Red. Yellow. Green. One plus two equals three. Ryan understands these
concepts, because they re easy to control. Understanding becomes hard when the shapes are replaced
by feelings, and the colors and numbers are replaced by people. Why is it hard to be understanding
towards one another? How come it is difficult to put myself into someone else s shoes and say they
had every right to mock me. Could it be because I am too simpleminded to understand? Or, is it
because I am too unwilling to let myself be carried away by someone else s life. If they refuse to
accept my world, then why should I try to understand theirs? It s that kind of thinking that keeps me
from truly enjoying life. When I fail to see the rough aspects in others lives, it not only makes them,
but also me, feel frustrated as well. I know how it feels to be unheard. I know how it feels to have
someone watch me talk, but ignore my words; like I wasn t there to begin with. Who am I if my peers
are willing to treat my voice as if it was nothing more than a gust of air? I crash

A Narcissistic study of The Picture of Dorian Grey
General Overview
Oscar Wilde s The picture of Dorian Grey s novel is about a young man named Dorian Gray, the
subject of a painting by artist Basil Hallward. Basil is impressed by Dorian s beauty and believes his
beauty should not be wasted and it is responsible for a new mode in his art. Dorian meets Lord Henry
Wotton, a friend of Basil s, and becomes enslaved by Lord Henry s world view. He shows him a new
hedonism, and suggests the only things worth following in life are beauty and fulfillment of the
senses. When he realizes that one day his beauty will fade, Dorian feels a desire to sell his soul to
ensure the portrait that Basil has painted would age instead of him. Dorian s wish ... Show more

But first we need to know what narcissism is, so there will be an introduction about different kinds of
narcissism.
Methodology
We will study The Picture of Dorian Grey through Narcissism which is an excessive interest in or
admiration of oneself and one s physical appearance. There are different kinds of narcissism such as
sexual narcissism and phallic narcissism.
This research tries to show and analyze different types of narcissism in the main characters of the
novel.
Definition of key terms
Narcissism: is a term that originated with Narcissus in Greek mythology who fell in love with his own
image reflected in a pool of water. Currently it is used to describe the pursuit of gratification from
vanity, or egotistic admiration of one s own physical or mental attributes, that derive from arrogant
pride.
Pathological narcissism: It is the state of having high levels of narcissism such as narcissistic
personality disorder; the person s libido has been withdrawn from the objects in the world and
produces megalomania.
Megalomania: It is a psychopathological disorder characterized by delusional fantasies of power,
relevance, or omnipotence, Megalomania is characterized by an inflated sense of self esteem and
overestimation by persons of their powers and beliefs.
Phallic narcissism: When an individual is elitist, a social climber, admiration seeking, self promoting,

Theme Of Imperial Discourse In A Passage To India
It ensures that the colonized reacts to the colonizers. In any case, the expressions of the colonized are
as the colonizers need them to talk. Basically Aziz is made to talk in A Passage to India however he
considers, talks and goes about as colonizers need him to do. Whatever he supposes outside this
particular talk, is brimming with energetic disdain and it neglects to free him from the chain of
colonialism.
On the othe hand, imperial discourse thwarts the improvement of the mental self view of the
colonized. Clearly, colnial discourse decides the objective of the colonized. In this association, it
might be specified that after the trial Aziz tries to raise his voice against the colonizers. Despite the
fact that subsequent to being absolved of the charge of Adela he was enraged with her, at last he
couldn t make any compelling move aside from detesting her. Be that as it may, he can t continue with
his assurance. He can t get away from the significant impact of the universe of the colonizers. In this
association Diminish Morey has said:
Imperial discourse must, by necessity, be dialogical in a regime that purports to govern by consent. ...

The Importance Of Family Law
To begin with, family law is a dense practice that can result in emotional, psychological, and physical
distress for all parties involved. Depending on the outcome, divorce cases can end in devastating ways
that result in the loss of college and retirement funds and the destruction of family traditions and
values (Wray 1). The traditional litigated process puts a strain on families, especially in cases where
minor children are involved; this strain includes anxiety, negative emotions, and feelings of
helplessness (Wray 1). Though not all family law cases go to court, the adversarial process is taxing
for the parties and professionals. In 1990, Stuart Webb posed the idea that family lawyers can help
their clients without representing them in court (Tesler 9). Instead, this new settlement process was
labeled as Collaborative Practice, in which lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial
professionals worked with clients to reach a resolution that everyone is comfortable with.
Collaborative Practice is a better approach when handling family law cases due to the involvement of
mental health professionals to help clients maintain their mental well being during the difficult time.
Clients are guided to express their emotions and prepare for the after effects, while recognizing the
burden and emotional distress.
Collaborative Practice spread across the United States and across the globe (Wray 1). The approach
was revolutionary because it took off the pressure to litigate

Does The Amount Of Salt Affect The Mass Of Ice Cream
Title: Does the amount of salt used in ice cream formation affect the mass of ice cream produced?
Purpose
To discover whether varied amounts of salt used in ice cream formation affect the mass of the final
product.
Background Information In order for water or milk to freeze, the temperature needs to be at or below
0ºC. In order to lower the freezing point of solution, different solutes are dissolved in solvents. When
a solute is combined with a solvent, such as dissolving sugar (solute) into water (solvent), a solution is
formed. The process of decreasing a freezing point of a liquid by dissolving a solute in a solution is
referred to as freezing point depression. The freezing point is a colligative property, which means that
the freezing point depends on the number of solute particles dissolved in a solution. For example,
CaCl2, which has three particles, would lower the freezing point of a solution more than NaCl would,
which only has two particles (Helmenstine).
Freezing point depression is utilized in the environment as well, such as placing salt onto roads in
winter during which the temperature is around or right below 0ºC to prevent any precipitation that
falls from freezing onto the road. When ice is exposed to salt (NaCl), hydrogen bonds in the ice
require more energy to join together. The energy used by the hydrogen bonds is in the form of heat
energy, decreasing the temperature of the small amount of melted water surrounding the ice
(Litherland).

Unbroken Movie Analysis
Throughout the duration of both of the World Wars, soldiers from every perspective of each war
endured many physical and moral challenges that tested their limits of survival. With various
technological advancements changing the art of war, influence to the wars outcomes was inevitable.
The amount of danger and challenges that the soldiers faced increased greatly. Fear struck into the
hearts of the men using tactics developed year by year in the early 20th century; warfare would never
be the same as it was before the wars. Examinations between the movies War Horse, directed by
Stephen Spielberg, and Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie, depict many of the same aspects of

How The Sand Felt So Warm Against My Skin Essay
The sand felt so warm against my skin, as Robert and I basked in the sunlight. This was our ritual
every Sunday afternoon. We both loved the beach, and this was a moment for us to relax, as well as
have some alone time. Our lives are very stressful. I m a corporate attorney, and Robert s a singer
songwriter, signed with RCA records. When Robert s not touring or in the studio, and I m not dealing
with contracts or legal documents, we like to find time for one another. He and I have been married for
four years now. We met while we were in college. We both attended the great University of Southern
California. He was studying music and I was studying law. It s weird that we met, now that I think
about it,... but we just clicked. Robert s smile still melts my heart to this day. We both want to have
kids some day, but just have to fit it into our busy schedules, which is harder than it sounds. When the
sun began to set, Robert looked over at me and said, Are you ready? Every Sunday when the sun
began to set, Robert and I would swim to the drop off in the Pacific. Once we reached the drop off, we
raced back to the shore. The last one to make it to the beach cooked dinner that night. Robert usually
won, which is a good thing, since he can t cook anything. But tonight I didn t feel like cooking, and if
all else fails, he could just order a pizza. As we neared the drop off, I saw a change in Robert s swim

Correlation Between Land Use Land Cover And Water Quality...
Why use correlation and regression in your work
It is very important in selecting the right kind of statistical, presentation, and analytical methods to
determine the relationships between land use land cover and water quality parameters. This is very
important because of the issues associated with spatial autocorrelation and non independence of
sampling site that often accompany research into water quality and land use.
Literally, autocorrelation is where a variable is said to be correlated with itself and it states that pairs
of subjects that are close to each other are more likely to have values that are more similar, and pairs
of subjects far apart from each other are more likely to have values that are less similar. The spatial
structure of the data in autocorrelation refers to any patterns that may exist in this nearness or distant
relationships. When data are spatially autocorrelated, it is possible to predict the value at one location
based on the value sampled from a nearby location using interpolation methods. When autocorrelation
does not exist, then the data is said to be independent.
Because of the qualitative nature of water quality analysis, there are a lot variety of statistical analyses
that can be performed on water quality data for reporting and interpretation purposes. Though most of
this statistics can be said to be intense, many inferences can be made from simple descriptive statistics
such as mean, minimum, maximum, median, range, and standard

Analysis Of Homer s The Iliad Essay
A major theme seen in Homer s The Iliad is one of war and the politics that play a role in it. A key part
of politics is the interactions that take place between people when determining policies and courses of
action. The focus of this paper will be on the interactions between the Greek leaders and the army in
the opening of book 2. There will be a section where I will analyze these interactions and provide
evidence showing what degree I believe the Greek leaders care about their army. The way that the
leaders negotiate with one another also plays an important role in the war and story. One of the
interactions that takes place between the leaders and the Greek army is when Agamemnon decides to
test the army s loyalty. This comes after he received a message from Zeus in his dream. In lines 74 to
75, Agamemnon talks about how he will test them with words, as is right, and I shall urge them to flee
(Homer, Verity, Graziosi, 2011, p.20). Agamemnon wants to test the loyalty of his people. It is crucial
to the war that those fighting in the army are completely loyal to Agamemnon and his leadership. The
army s loyalty allows Agamemnon to know that they will do what he believes they must do in order to
win this war. There are issues that arise from the nature of this interaction that will be addressed later
on. Those fighting in the Greek army tend not to know the exact plans that Agamemnon and other
leaders have all of the time. As the earlier example shows, the people had

Analyzing The Metamorphosis Essay
Analyzing The Metamorphosis
Upon first reading The Metamorphosis, a person might think the author is a little strange for writing
such a story. It seems to defy anything rational, yet it has been regarded as a masterpiece in literature.
I, myself, still wonder how Kafka could write such a great story that is, in my opinion, extremely
bazaar and, well, weird. And that is putting it lightly. In the beginning of the story, Kafka abruptly
brings us into the sad life of a traveling salesman, named Gregor. When he wakes up in the morning,
the first picture that is painted is a round bellied sort of insect lying on its back with its numerous legs,
which were pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his ... Show more

I found this dependence frightening and would probably make me want to turn into a bug, too. Kafka
was brilliant in not actually letting his readers know exactly what kind of bug Gregor was. It was
obviously intentional. When the book got published, Kafka was actually worried that the publisher
would want to illustrate a picture of the bug like creature. He wrote the publisher explaining that he
didn t want any pictures that depicted what Gregor might have looked like. I like this idea because it
really helps the reader of the story use their imagination. One of the worst things in the world is to
read a book, get a picture in your head of what characters look and act like, and in the end, flip
through pictures generated from another person s mind. In John Updike s commentary of Kafka s The
Metamorphosis, he alludes to Gregor maybe being a centipede instead of a beetle or a cockroach.
Though Kafka says Gregor has numerous legs , I do not necessarily think that means he has to be a
centipede. To a human being, numerous legs would be six legs as compared to our normal two legs.
Besides, never have I seen a centipede with a domed like brown belly . Also, a cockroach (which
would be a fitting choice) does not seem to match the description Kafka gives. I have concluded for
myself that the bug that Gregor has sadly

The Struggle Of Women In Boys And GirlAndThe Yellow...
The short stories Boys and Girls by Alice Munro and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins
Gilman are both stories that focus on the roles women are forced to play. However, the difference
between the stories is how the author chooses to address these roles. Both of these stories are told in
the first person from the perspective of a girl who struggles with accepting the expectations that have
been forced upon them. Even though the stories were written at a different time, they both focus on the
main struggle that women had at both time periods. However, the way that the roles are addressed in
each story is very different and create different outcomes for each.
The constant battle that both girls are facing in the story is escaping the expectations set by society. In
The Yellow Wallpaper , the narrator is forced to stay in her room because her husband says and no one
will listen to her because she is a woman. I sometimes fancy that in my condition if I had less
opposition and more society and stimulus but John says the very worst thing I can do is to think about
my condition, and I confess it always makes me feel bad (Gilman, 526). The wallpaper in her room is
like a prison to her, which is a symbol for her life because she is caged in her own mind with her
husband doing everything and commanding her like a dog.
The girl in Boys and Girls also has this struggle with not conforming to society. She didn t want to
work in the kitchen or act like a lady. She wanted

and repeated movements or vocal sounds, known as tics. Until 1970, TS was frequently misdiagnosed
as schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, epilepsy, or nervous habits, concluding that this
mental disorder is extremely rare and has similar characteristics as other mental disorders (Kahn and
Fawcett 375). Since there is no specific test that can diagnose TS, doctors have to rely on a person s
behaviors and personal history to identify the disorder. About one person in two thousand people is
likely to have TS; additionally males are four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people often misunderstand TS as rudeness, offensive behavior, and even craziness. Thus,
children with TS are often ridiculed or teased by their fellow peers. Due to this, many children avoid
social gathering and suffer from depression or substance abuse. This is one of the many reasons why
children with tics should be informed of their disorder and should receive tremendous amounts of
support and love from their friends and families. People with TS are also likely to have other mental
problems like depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and self injurious behaviors. As mentioned above,
TS can occur in anyone, even famous people. Some of the famous people that had TS were Jim
Eisenreich, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Marc Summers. TS does not disable a person from
working efficiently or living a perfectly normal life. People with TS can attend and succeed school
just as a normal person can. The disorder does not affect their intelligence or their ability to learn, thus
enabling them to live a perfectly normal life. They have the same earning potential, intelligence, and
working ability similar to any other person. One of the best ways to cope with TS is to remember that
the tics usually lessen in severity as an individual gets older. Tics usually reach its highest potential
during early teens to the middle years of adolescence. If a person with TS

Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover
World War II raged around the world, but the people of London faced it on their doorsteps. The
Blitzkrieg destroyed not only the cities buildings but affected the people who lived there. Elizabeth
Bowen, a native of the city, used the devastation to draw, inspiration from her own traumatic
experiences ( The Home Front ). This inspiration manifested itself into the 1945 short story The
Demon Lover. The Demon Lover is full of a variety of elements meant to create an ambiguous view
on the plot and its outcome. It s symbolism aids the reader in understanding how the Blitzkrieg left
immovable marks not only on London the city but on its people while the themes confuse the reader
with the blending of imagination and reality. The Demon Lover ... Show more content on

The Working Poor s Impossibility of Survival Essay
According to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), all employers must abide by the minimum wage
policy which states that they must not pay their employees a wage below the set minimum wage. It is
often believed that it serves as a protection for the citizens. Though the minimum wage law benefits
employees because employers cannot pay them below the minimum wage, the minimum wage,
however, does not protect them from the struggles and hardships they will most likely encounter.
Rather, as millions of Americans work in full time minimum wage jobs, several of them discover that
their wages are insufficient to survive in today s society. In the book Nickel and Dimed, the author

When a personal trainer (one of The Maids clients) discusses the way of being fit is by firing their

repetitive, and as likely to destroy the musculoskeletal structure as to strengthen it (90). Vacuuming,
scrubbing the floors, cleaning the bathrooms, reaching for items, and the other physical duties of this
job, if done repetitively, result in permanent injuries. This is evident in The Maids job, where several
of her coworkers suffer through back pains, cramps, and arthritic attacks caused by their jobs. Thus,
the idea that `hard work was the secret of success (220) is an unreasonable conclusion because several
minimum wage workers exert their best effort, only to find themselves physically hurt and [...]sinking
ever deeper into poverty and debt (220).
The biggest problem minimum wage workers encounter, however, is not the physical demands of the
job, but the inability to support themselves financially. In America, according to the welfare reform, it
is assumed that [...] a job was the ticket out of poverty [...] (196). However, as Ehrenreich experiences
the life of a low wage worker, she claims that her low wages are simply not enough to survive. The
major factor that destroyed the workers financial status was the soaring prices of rent.

What Was The Role Of Communication In American Civilization
The ability for the common person to write and read opens new worlds of possibilities while also
influencing common writing materials. Increasing communication between all cultivates a unified and
peaceful society. The written word is such a powerful tool, in fact, civilizations have chosen at times
to limit the number and type of people who could comprehend it. Being able to read and write enabled
shifts in the class system by accelerating the learning process and enabling speedy career training. For
universal literacy, commoners must be able to access affordable and quick to use writing materials. In
the Sumerian Civilization, written word was revered and feared. Very few people could read or write
and the idea of becoming a literate civilization was discouraged. Because of this, a distinct class of
writers was formed. These writers were called scribes and were taught to write what they were told to
write, word for word and read without personal bias or elaboration. For the privacy of their masters,
scribes were not to add their own thoughts or think about the content they were inscribing. ... Show

Scribes were trained from a young age and taught that loyalty to master and secrecy of trade paved the

was a military officer, a high official, or an accountant. A few women became scribes, but most
students were boys, and they attended school from sunrise to sunset until they reached adulthood (77).

Thunder on their ships can be used to describe Herman Cortes when he landed at what is now
Veracruz, Mexico in 1519 A.D. The light skinned and bearded Spaniard led his men into territory
occupied by the Aztec civilization. Little did Cortes know, but that happened to be the same year in
the Aztec culture when a white and bearded deity was expected to arrive. Montezuma, the Aztec s

The Aztec empire began when groups of nomads and wanderers in the wilderness of what is now
South America joined together. They arrived in the Mexican Valley between 1200 and 1267 A.D. At
the time, the Mexican Valley was a rich environment, full of deep plentiful soils with shallow swamps
and lakes full of fish, turtles, insects, and blue green algae. The Aztecs resided there and began to
expand and invade other territories for a variety of reasons: in order to obtain goods and land to
support a growing population, a more abundant supply of sacrificial victims, and to maintain their
religious beliefs that the lands of Mexico were theirs by divine right . The expansion and movement of
the Aztecs had a distinct effect on the Mexican Valley and surrounding areas. Their capital,
Tenochtitlon, was constructed in the middle of Lake Lexcoco and eventually a new lake based
agricultural system was established. As the Aztec population flourished, central Mexico was
transformed into a social landscape with plentiful resources (Teresi, 342 4).
When Cortes witnessed the native lifestyle and traditions in breadbasket of the Valley of Mexico, he
took the opportunities given to him, mainly through chance, and overthrew Montezuma, beginning the
Spanish reign in this new part of the world. Europe, at the time, was going through

George Bush Multilateralism
In the days surrounding president George W. Bush s address to the United Nations regarding the
political climate in Iraq, Washington had become a whirlpool of two different approaches:
unilateralism and multilateralism. After an attempt to appeal to both sides in Washington with his
initial address to the UN, George Bush s action of waging an arguably unjustified war against Iraq
without assistance from the United Nations can ultimately be explained using realist theory.
The dominant approach supported by Bush s Republican party was unilateralism. Assuming the
Republicans led by Cheney and Rumsfeld were truly under the impression that Saddam Hussein
possessed weapons of mass destruction, while also having ties to international terrorist groups, their
wishes were not irrational. The unilateralists felt that every day the United States did not act was
another day closer to an attack like 9/11. The main idea behind realism is that war is inevitable, and
that the number one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Liberalism is centered around the ideal that peace is maintained through policy, rather than war. In the
eyes of a regulatory liberalist, international organizations can peacefully facilitate conflicts before they
turn into war. Powell urged Bush to seek the UN security council s assistance in re administering
nuclear inspections teams within Iraq. The idea was that the inspections teams would find monitor
Iraqi facilities to keep Hussein under control. If Saddam did not agree, then war could be waged. The
key is seeking alternative means of promoting peace before waging a costly war. Under republican
liberalism, democratic states do not wage war under the premise that the citizens pay the costs of war.
The multilateralists knew the war and reconstruction of Iraq would be very demanding. With this in
mind, they felt it was in the US s best interest if members of the United Nations shared the

The Quest in M. Butterfly and American Beauty
Happiness is defined as enjoying, showing, or characterized by pleasure; joyous; contented. Based on
this definition we all search for happiness our entire lives. Two very different stories address this idea
of the quest for happiness. M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwang is the story of a man named
Gallimard who is longing for his love Butterfly to return to him. John Deeney describes it as him,
clinging to his idea of a Perfect Woman to the end by costuming himself into the victimized Butterfly

Not only is he using Gallimard for the government, but also for the control he has over him. Song
knows that Gallimard thinks he is the perfect woman. He allows him to believe this for more than
twenty years during their affair. It was not until the end that Song told Gallimard the truth. Song lived
most of her life as a lie, only because she thought it was making her happy.
On the other side of Song s insecure image was his lover Gallimard. Gallimard first lived a happy life
with his lover Song. He changed his whole life and even got a promotion because of his new attitude.
Not praising himself he said, It is because of you that I was promoted tonight. You have changed my
life forever. My little Butterfly, there should be no more secrets: I love you (Meyer 1233). Gallimard
truly loved Song and after finding out that Song was really a man, he was crushed. He was ridiculed

Edvard Munch s Painting Scream Munich Essay
Edvard Munch s Painting Scream Munich
Edvard Munch is looked upon as one of the most significant influences on the development of
expressionism. Edvard Munch was quoted as saying We want more than a mere photograph of nature.
We do not want to paint pretty pictures to be hung on drawing room walls. We want to create, or at
least lay the foundations of, an art that gives something to humanity. An art that arrests and engages.
An art created of one s innermost heart. I believe in The Scream Munch did just as he said.

In 1908, Munch had a nervous breakdown, a culmination of his anxiety and fears going all the way
back to his childhood. During the years pervious to this he had experienced some of the most extreme
emotions humans can. At age 5, his mother died and at 14 , his favorite sister, Sophie dies as well.
Tuberculosis entered his childhood bring him horrid visions of death, pain, paranoia, and despair.
It was with these emotions Munch eventually, in 1893, brought to the canvas of The Scream. He tried
to create the all encompassing emotion of total complete undeniable despair. When all hope is gone;
when death is eventual; when the world seems to be completely aganist you and there is nothing you
can do about any of it. The Scream displays the despair of life as he had experienced one day while
walking with his friends. As he has written himself I was walking along the road with two friends. The
sun set. I felt a tinge of melancholy. Suddenly the sky became a bloody red. I stopped, leaned aganist
the railing, dead tired, and I looked at the flaming clouds that hung like blood and a sword over the
blue black fjord and the city. My friends walked on. I stood there, trembling with fright. And I felt a
loud, unending scream piercing nature.
How did Munch achieve sunch an enormously disturbing effect? Looking at it we see a deformed

The Myth Of Aeschylus The Eumenides
From the classical period until present day, artists have attempted to portray Aeschylus The
Eumenides in various forms of art. However, in order to appreciate the work of these artist one must
first become familiar with the subject of the myth they depict. According to Greek and Roman
mythology, the Furies were female spirits of justice and vengeance. Known especially for pursuing
people who had murdered family members, the Furies punished their victims by driving them mad.
There are various stories on the origin of the Furies. According to Hesiod s Theogony, the Titan
Cronus castrated and threw his father, Uranus, genitalia into the sea. When Cronus blood fell onto the
earth, the Furies were born. Other stories circulated in Greek and ... Show more content on

Currently housed in the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia is one of his most famous
painting The Remorse of Orestes (1862). At the center of the painting, we have Orestes naked except
for a discreet white drapery. With and look of pure anguish he attempts to cover his ears as the Furies
appear to be screaming behind him. Behind him to the left of the painting, we see Clytemnestra in a
white dress, draped in a disarranged red cloak, with a dagger in her heart. As Clytemnestra is falling,
one of the Furies holds her up. It is as if the murder has just taken place and Orestes is immediately
regretting his actions, and one of the Furies is refusing to let Orestes burry the sense of guilt he feels.
Another of the Furies is holding a torch, which similarly to the last painting discussed, could be
symbolic of the Furies enacting justice for the crime of matricide. All of the Furies are partially
clothed and have their characteristic snake like hair. The positioning of the Orestes body and face
looking away from the Furies also adds to the overarching theme of the painting. It is as if he cannot
face what he has done, he cannot even look at the Furies, let alone try to justify his actions. No matter
how he tries to run from the crime, he will never be able to get away from it. This all encompassing
dread is not something that Orestes can escape even after being pardoned for his crime; it is something
that he will have to live with for the rest of his life. The canvas is 7.5 feet by 9 feet and reflects how
important the message of the painting that the guilty feel an unceasing torment that they cannot escape
is to the artist. When submitting the painting Bouguereau wrote about his painting

Dinitrogen Research Paper
A catalytic route to ammonia from dinitrogen has been one of the most intensively researched areas of
chemistry in the last 50 years. Nitrogen gas constitutes 78% of Earth s atmosphere, and is easily
accessed through the fractional distillation of air. Despite this enormous potential for use as a chemical
feedstock to synthesize ammonia, the inert nature of elemental nitrogen makes it extremely difficult
for most practical purposes. Currently, ammonia is synthesized via the Haber Bosch process, which
uses nitrogen, hydrogen, and an iron catalyst at an excess of 200 °C and 300 atm. The enormous
energy demands of this process consume approximately 2% of the world s annual energy supply.
Despite this high cost, the Haber Bosch process has been invaluable as a chemical process over the
last century because it has solely allowed the agricultural industry to keep up with the rising food
demand of the modern world by enabling the large scale production of nitrogen based fertilizers. Still,
a more efficient route to ammonia would remove a huge burden from the worlds energy supply.
Despite our struggles to efficiently reduce dinitrogen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

unsuccessful, and the field began to grow stale. While ammonia was observed to be formed

Vargas is content to cut down only two of the Treanor s eight redwoods. That does not seem overly
unreasonable, being only a fourth of the tress are being cut down. As an environmentalist, he should
not be flaunting his right to treat these redwoods as public nuisances. He betrays his green ideals with
his wishes to chop down these trees, and brings light to an outdated law that others might consider
using. With that being said, this will spark a movement of people attempting to use the Solar Shade
Control Act. First, it may be only one or two said trees. However, this disagreement exposes an act
that can easily be taken advantage of. Others can take on this idea and get their neighbor to cut down
even more trees, and by this time, an abundance of trees are cut down and neighbors across the nation
will become the leading cause of tree death. Mr. Vargas should have seen the risks in the investment
he made. You re never in complete control over how much sunlight will shine on your property.
According to the Solar Shade Act, The law seeks to prevent property owners from allowing trees to
shade an existing solar energy system, provided the shading trees were planted after the solar system
was installed. (Go Solar California). Mr. Vargas uses this Solar Shade Act, yet it is clear that the
requirements for this act are after the solar system was installed. Using this act should be considered

The Unjust Double Standards In Cosi By Lewis Nowra
Realism is a significant style of theatre as it enables audience to empathise, thus this style can educate,
empower and challenge audiences. Realism is an aesthetic mode which broke with the classical
demands of art to show life as it should be in order to show life as it is (Christopher Keep, 2000). Cosi
is an Australian realism play by Lewis Nowra, the play was written in the 1970s a time of political
movement, therefore the play explores various themes. In this concept, I want to specifically showcase
the unjust double standards that men have regarding women. In order to highlight this unfair double
standard through use of directorial techniques of lighting and staging interconnected with the dramatic
elements of symbol, tension and language. Through the utilisation of these elements and techniques
the theme of the unjust double standards will be effectively conveyed. This is a critical issue for
audiences to understand as this issue is still prevalent in society today. By educating audience on this
issue, this production will challenge how Australian society conduct themselves in everyday life.
Thus, leaving audience members with a sense of empowerment as they reflect on how women were
treated in the past and how this still mirrors modern day society.
Directors intent:
Through this directorial concept I intend to expose the unjust double standards that men have
regarding women. Through clear emphasis on this theme I want to capture the raw human emotion of

  • 2. Narrative Essay On Megan s Law On a stormy day in midsummer, with clouds swirling overhead and rain drops pounding down on the earth, one couple raced to the hospital in need of medical attention. Their hearts were pounding, adrenalin coursing within their veins, and butterflies filling their stomachs among other things. They were nervous and slightly scared for what might happen once they arrive. They had finally made it to the parking lot of the hospital; they suddenly find themselves gathering their essential belongings, so ready to embark into the other side of unknown that awaited them behind those hospital doors. But they stopped, only for a moment to look one another in the eyes and give that unspoken go ahead that they were ready to stand together no matter what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among many laws and acts that were signed and pushed through during his presidency one that Clinton moved to pass was Megan s Law. This law was created following the saddening incident involving the rape and murder of a seven year old girl, Megan Kanka. Megan and her family had been unknowingly living right across the street from Jesse Timmendequas, a formerly convicted sex offender. One day Jesse lured Megan to into his home with the false promise of letting her see his new puppy and then attacked the child. This terrible event set in motion this law that would require each state to register and track any formally convicted sexual predators into a system. The state would be responsible for making the community aware of any offenders moving into the area. The law also stated that any second time offender would be sentenced to life in prison with no opportunity for parole. This law put in place helpful tools to keep vulnerable and innocent children out of harm s way. It was a part of history in the effort to prevent more sexual assaults on children, teens and even adults. In a way this law was passed with me in mind. So that as I got older and began playing in the yard, or riding my bike out front we d as least know of any dangerous individuals that very well could be our next door neighbor where near. It was quite sad in all honesty to find out that in studies conducted in the 2000 s that Megan s Law had to no real effect on the issue at hand. But at the time I merely an infant focused on putting anything and everything in my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Ryan s The Flies Similar to a circle, Ryan s face is rounded just enough for his Aunt to love it. Despite a chubby face and fingers, his body is small. Fragile. In the six years of his life he has come to enjoy learning new concepts. He understands that to draw a house he must start with a square base. A roof is nothing more than a triangle on top. Add two squares for Windows and a rectangle for a door and Ryan has drawn a squiggly lined house. Red. Yellow. Green. One plus two equals three. Ryan understands these concepts, because they re easy to control. Understanding becomes hard when the shapes are replaced by feelings, and the colors and numbers are replaced by people. Why is it hard to be understanding towards one another? How come it is difficult to put myself into someone else s shoes and say they had every right to mock me. Could it be because I am too simpleminded to understand? Or, is it because I am too unwilling to let myself be carried away by someone else s life. If they refuse to accept my world, then why should I try to understand theirs? It s that kind of thinking that keeps me from truly enjoying life. When I fail to see the rough aspects in others lives, it not only makes them, but also me, feel frustrated as well. I know how it feels to be unheard. I know how it feels to have someone watch me talk, but ignore my words; like I wasn t there to begin with. Who am I if my peers are willing to treat my voice as if it was nothing more than a gust of air? I crash ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Narcissistic study of The Picture of Dorian Grey General Overview Oscar Wilde s The picture of Dorian Grey s novel is about a young man named Dorian Gray, the subject of a painting by artist Basil Hallward. Basil is impressed by Dorian s beauty and believes his beauty should not be wasted and it is responsible for a new mode in his art. Dorian meets Lord Henry Wotton, a friend of Basil s, and becomes enslaved by Lord Henry s world view. He shows him a new hedonism, and suggests the only things worth following in life are beauty and fulfillment of the senses. When he realizes that one day his beauty will fade, Dorian feels a desire to sell his soul to ensure the portrait that Basil has painted would age instead of him. Dorian s wish ... Basically Aziz is made to talk in A Passage to India however he considers, talks and goes about as colonizers need him to do. Whatever he supposes outside this particular talk, is brimming with energetic disdain and it neglects to free him from the chain of colonialism. On the othe hand, imperial discourse thwarts the improvement of the mental self view of the colonized. Clearly, colnial discourse decides the objective of the colonized. In this association, it might be specified that after the trial Aziz tries to raise his voice against the colonizers. Despite the fact that subsequent to being absolved of the charge of Adela he was enraged with her, at last he couldn t make any compelling move aside from detesting her. Be that as it may, he can t continue with his assurance. He can t get away from the significant impact of the universe of the colonizers. • 9. The Importance Of Family Law To begin with, family law is a dense practice that can result in emotional, psychological, and physical distress for all parties involved. Depending on the outcome, divorce cases can end in devastating ways that result in the loss of college and retirement funds and the destruction of family traditions and values (Wray 1). The traditional litigated process puts a strain on families, especially in cases where minor children are involved; this strain includes anxiety, negative emotions, and feelings of helplessness (Wray 1). Though not all family law cases go to court, the adversarial process is taxing for the parties and professionals. In 1990, Stuart Webb posed the idea that family lawyers can help their clients without representing them in court (Tesler 9). Instead, this new settlement process was labeled as Collaborative Practice, in which lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial professionals worked with clients to reach a resolution that everyone is comfortable with. Collaborative Practice is a better approach when handling family law cases due to the involvement of mental health professionals to help clients maintain their mental well being during the difficult time. Clients are guided to express their emotions and prepare for the after effects, while recognizing the burden and emotional distress. Collaborative Practice spread across the United States and across the globe (Wray 1). The approach was revolutionary because it took off the pressure to litigate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Does The Amount Of Salt Affect The Mass Of Ice Cream Title: Does the amount of salt used in ice cream formation affect the mass of ice cream produced? Purpose To discover whether varied amounts of salt used in ice cream formation affect the mass of the final product. Background Information In order for water or milk to freeze, the temperature needs to be at or below 0ºC. In order to lower the freezing point of solution, different solutes are dissolved in solvents. When a solute is combined with a solvent, such as dissolving sugar (solute) into water (solvent), a solution is formed. The process of decreasing a freezing point of a liquid by dissolving a solute in a solution is referred to as freezing point depression. The freezing point is a colligative property, which means that the freezing point depends on the number of solute particles dissolved in a solution. For example, CaCl2, which has three particles, would lower the freezing point of a solution more than NaCl would, which only has two particles (Helmenstine). Freezing point depression is utilized in the environment as well, such as placing salt onto roads in winter during which the temperature is around or right below 0ºC to prevent any precipitation that falls from freezing onto the road. When ice is exposed to salt (NaCl), hydrogen bonds in the ice require more energy to join together. The energy used by the hydrogen bonds is in the form of heat energy, decreasing the temperature of the small amount of melted water surrounding the ice (Litherland). ... I m a corporate attorney, and Robert s a singer songwriter, signed with RCA records. • 15. Correlation Between Land Use Land Cover And Water Quality... Why use correlation and regression in your work It is very important in selecting the right kind of statistical, presentation, and analytical methods to determine the relationships between land use land cover and water quality parameters. This is very important because of the issues associated with spatial autocorrelation and non independence of sampling site that often accompany research into water quality and land use. Literally, autocorrelation is where a variable is said to be correlated with itself and it states that pairs of subjects that are close to each other are more likely to have values that are more similar, and pairs of subjects far apart from each other are more likely to have values that are less similar. The spatial structure of the data in autocorrelation refers to any patterns that may exist in this nearness or distant relationships. When data are spatially autocorrelated, it is possible to predict the value at one location based on the value sampled from a nearby location using interpolation methods. When autocorrelation does not exist, then the data is said to be independent. Because of the qualitative nature of water quality analysis, there are a lot variety of statistical analyses that can be performed on water quality data for reporting and interpretation purposes. Though most of this statistics can be said to be intense, many inferences can be made from simple descriptive statistics such as mean, minimum, maximum, median, range, and standard ... • 17. Analysis Of Homer s The Iliad Essay A major theme seen in Homer s The Iliad is one of war and the politics that play a role in it. A key part of politics is the interactions that take place between people when determining policies and courses of action. The focus of this paper will be on the interactions between the Greek leaders and the army in the opening of book 2. There will be a section where I will analyze these interactions and provide evidence showing what degree I believe the Greek leaders care about their army. The way that the leaders negotiate with one another also plays an important role in the war and story. One of the interactions that takes place between the leaders and the Greek army is when Agamemnon decides to test the army s loyalty. This comes after he received a message from Zeus in his dream. In lines 74 to 75, Agamemnon talks about how he will test them with words, as is right, and I shall urge them to flee (Homer, Verity, Graziosi, 2011, p.20). Agamemnon wants to test the loyalty of his people. It is crucial to the war that those fighting in the army are completely loyal to Agamemnon and his leadership. The army s loyalty allows Agamemnon to know that they will do what he believes they must do in order to win this war. There are issues that arise from the nature of this interaction that will be addressed later on. Those fighting in the Greek army tend not to know the exact plans that Agamemnon and other leaders have all of the time. As the earlier example shows, the people had ... • 18. Analyzing The Metamorphosis Essay Analyzing The Metamorphosis Upon first reading The Metamorphosis, a person might think the author is a little strange for writing such a story. It seems to defy anything rational, yet it has been regarded as a masterpiece in literature. I, myself, still wonder how Kafka could write such a great story that is, in my opinion, extremely bazaar and, well, weird. And that is putting it lightly. In the beginning of the story, Kafka abruptly brings us into the sad life of a traveling salesman, named Gregor. When he wakes up in the morning, the first picture that is painted is a round bellied sort of insect lying on its back with its numerous legs, which were pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found this dependence frightening and would probably make me want to turn into a bug, too. Kafka was brilliant in not actually letting his readers know exactly what kind of bug Gregor was. It was obviously intentional. When the book got published, Kafka was actually worried that the publisher would want to illustrate a picture of the bug like creature. He wrote the publisher explaining that he didn t want any pictures that depicted what Gregor might have looked like. I like this idea because it really helps the reader of the story use their imagination. One of the worst things in the world is to read a book, get a picture in your head of what characters look and act like, and in the end, flip through pictures generated from another person s mind. In John Updike s commentary of Kafka s The Metamorphosis, he alludes to Gregor maybe being a centipede instead of a beetle or a cockroach. Though Kafka says Gregor has numerous legs , I do not necessarily think that means he has to be a centipede. To a human being, numerous legs would be six legs as compared to our normal two legs. Besides, never have I seen a centipede with a domed like brown belly . Also, a cockroach (which would be a fitting choice) does not seem to match the description Kafka gives. I have concluded for myself that the bug that Gregor has sadly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the difference between the stories is how the author chooses to address these roles. Both of these stories are told in the first person from the perspective of a girl who struggles with accepting the expectations that have been forced upon them. Even though the stories were written at a different time, they both focus on the main struggle that women had at both time periods. However, the way that the roles are addressed in each story is very different and create different outcomes for each. The constant battle that both girls are facing in the story is escaping the expectations set by society. In The Yellow Wallpaper , the narrator is forced to stay in her room because her husband says and no one will listen to her because she is a woman. I sometimes fancy that in my condition if I had less opposition and more society and stimulus but John says the very worst thing I can do is to think about my condition, and I confess it always makes me feel bad (Gilman, 526). The wallpaper in her room is like a prison to her, which is a symbol for her life because she is caged in her own mind with her husband doing everything and commanding her like a dog. The girl in Boys and Girls also has this struggle with not conforming to society. She didn t want to work in the kitchen or act like a lady. She wanted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After an attempt to appeal to both sides in Washington with his initial address to the UN, George Bush s action of waging an arguably unjustified war against Iraq without assistance from the United Nations can ultimately be explained using realist theory. The dominant approach supported by Bush s Republican party was unilateralism. Assuming the Republicans led by Cheney and Rumsfeld were truly under the impression that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, while also having ties to international terrorist groups, their wishes were not irrational. The unilateralists felt that every day the United States did not act was another day closer to an attack like 9/11. The main idea behind realism is that war is inevitable, and that the number one ... Nitrogen gas constitutes 78% of Earth s atmosphere, and is easily accessed through the fractional distillation of air. Despite this enormous potential for use as a chemical feedstock to synthesize ammonia, the inert nature of elemental nitrogen makes it extremely difficult for most practical purposes. Currently, ammonia is synthesized via the Haber Bosch process, which uses nitrogen, hydrogen, and an iron catalyst at an excess of 200 °C and 300 atm. The enormous energy demands of this process consume approximately 2% of the world s annual energy supply. Despite this high cost, the Haber Bosch process has been invaluable as a chemical process over the last century because it has solely allowed the agricultural industry to keep up with the rising food demand of the modern world by enabling the large scale production of nitrogen based fertilizers.
