How Did Van Heones Use Propaganda To Show Her It A Man s...
The fifteen years following World War II saw unprecedented growth in the United States economy.
This postwar prosperity fueled the purchase of material goods by the American people as personal
savings were at an all time high (Divine 946). The advertising industry turned from wartime
propaganda to advertisement of consumer goods. The Phillips Jones Corporation, who
manufactured Van Heusen apparel, used print advertisement to promote its product. The Van
Heusen advertisement, Show her it s a man s world , appeared during the 1950 s and symbolized
the perceived ideal that women were subservient to men. The ad pictures various neckties, which
are intended to show male confidence and power when worn. The woman in the ad is pictured

Aircraft Icing
Introduction Plane crashes occur for a number of reasons. There seems to be a consensus with
the general public that flying is dangerous, engines fail and planes crash. That is true some times,
although the majority of plane crashes occur largely due to a combination of human error and
mechanical failure. In much of aviations accidents mechanical failure has been a contributing
factor. It is impossible however to blame plane crashes on one reason since events leading up to
an accident are so varied. Reasoning for plane crashes can be placed in a broad number of
categories. Environmental conditions play a vital part in aviation as a whole. Much planning goes
into a flight based on the current and forecast weather conditions for... Show more content on

It also issued 18 airworthiness directives for all pilots operating small commuter aircraft, instructing
them on how to recognize and respond to dangerous icing conditions. (Krock, 2004, 4). As a step to
resolve icing accident investigations the FAA has issued airworthiness directives for aviation
operators such as: Monitoring ice build up, and getting out of icing conditions if the buildup is
unusually high, on anti icing equipment sooner rather than later, avoid abrupt and excessive
maneuvering that may exacerbate control difficulties, do not extend flaps when holding in icing
conditions (which can reduce angle of attack), If flaps are extended, do not retract until the airframe
is clear of ice, and report icing conditions to ATC. (Holzapfel, 2000, 9). Aircraft icing is closely
studied in wind tunnels, although it is very difficult for them to simulate different icing conditions.
Such icing research is conducted at John H. Glenn Research Center using the Icing Research
Tunnel, the largest refrigerated icing tunnel in the world, and the Twin Otter icing research aircraft.
New techniques are also under investigation for testing subscale components in icing tunnels. A
new area of interest is in the field of remote detection of icing condition. This could encompass
technologies utilizing ground based, in flight, or satellite mounted detection methods (Potapczuk,
6). Goodrich has come up with a high tech solution to the problem of detecting ice on aircraft

These trends are not confined to European or American music markets. Baidu, China s largest
online search company, recently signed a deal with rights holders to license music on its website
for both free download and streaming (Hille, 2011). The surge in popularity has led some to
believe that the digital music market represents the recording industry s next sustainable business
model, along with diversification into live events and merchandise. However, relatively little is
understood about the consumer who uses a combination of legal and illegal sources to acquire
music a la carte. In the decade prior to the Internet, the music industry was relatively healthy overall
with worldwide sales peaking in 1998 (Baym, 2010). Since then, peer to peer (P2P) networks such
as Napster have contributed to the decline in sales of CDs. There is some disagreement about the
extent to which file sharing has negatively impacted the recording; however, evidence points to
copyright infringement as a significant factor. The digitalization of music effectively removed the
industry s monopoly on high quality reproduction so that illegal copies were of equal standard to
the original (May, 2007). Concomitantly, the intangible nature of digital music has resulted in new
consumption practices. Efforts to counter digital piracy have primarily used legal mechanisms to
dismantle P2P networks and prosecute file sharers. More

Tap Water Problem
Assignment 3 In the New York Times article, Unsafe Lead Levels in Tap Water Not Limited to
Flint, journalists Michael Wines and John Schwartz give examples of various cities in America that
have had issues with lead contamination in public drinking water, signaling that the current water
crisis in Flint is not an abnormality. Washington D.C., Durham and Greenville, N.C., and Jackson,
Mississippi are some of the cities in the past 15 years that have been victim to lead contamination
(Wines and Schwartz). Although most of the public water systems in the Unites States are deemed
safe, these intermittent cases of contamination are the result of holes in safety rules and procedures
(Wines and Schwartz). According to Dr. Jeffrey K. Griffiths, professor of public health at Tufts
University and former E.P.A. chairman, there are many threats to the water supplyin addition to
lead. Along with a multitude of potentially harmful contaminants and aging infrastructure, there is
also the possibility of an unprofessional or incompetent actor to break through protective safeguards
(Wines and Schwartz). While commonsense regulations and restorative measures, like new
provisions to the Clean Water Act or investments in new waterlines, have been proposed as
solutions to address these problems, they are met with blowback, with complaints ranging from
intrusiveness to the idea that more regulations unnecessarily hurt business (Wines and Schwartz)....

The s Treatment Of Killer Whales
Ever since the entertainment industry began to capture animals for the enjoyment of others,
activists who believe animals can only subsist in the wild have been protesting against this
monstrous act, using powerful propaganda to entice others to join their cause. The critically
acclaimed film Blackfish, which highlights SeaWorlds treatment of killer whales, apparently reveals
shocking and appalling insight on accidental deaths caused by captive killer whales. One of the
highest grossing documentaries of all time, as stated on director Gabriela Cowperthwaite s website,
Blackfish has captivated millions of viewers, causing them to reevaluate their values and
advocating against SeaWorld. Although Cowperthwaite has stated in an interview that the film is
not at all advocating for anything, and that she attempted to take a journalistic approach to
documenting these phenomena, it is clear that the events depicted in the film reflect opposition to
SeaWorld and its captivity of whales. Although Blackfish extensively applies human emotionand
concepts to the animal kingdom to solicit sympathy from the viewers and provides misleading
information to add to the sense of credibility, further research contradicts the points made in the
film, rendering the conveyance of the film s admonition against the captivity of killer whales
ineffective. The weight of the film lies in the deep emotional underpinnings that convince viewers
to feel compassion for the captive whales. The film

How Principals Can Establish School-Wide Success
Researchers who have examined education leadership agree that effective principals are responsible
for establishing a school wide vision of commitment to high standards and the success of all
students. As previously mentioned, principals, up until now, were seen as nothing more than
building managers, but career success in a global economy depends on a strong education. In a
school, that building towards career success starts with the principal spelling out high standards and
rigorous learning goals, Vanderbilt University researchers asserted with underlined emphasis.
Specifically, they say, The research literature over the last quarter century has consistently
supported the notion that having high expectations for all, including clear and public standards, is
one key to closing the achievement gap between the advantaged and fewer advantaged students and
for raising the overall achievement of all students. During the development phase of CCSSI, this
was the primary goal. Therefore, developing a shared vision around standards, and success for all
students is an essential element of school leadership. In what way can this be done? Using Kotter s
8 Step will demonstrate how to implement a shared vision:
1.Developing a vision and strategy. Administrators need to create a vision and corresponding
strategies to help direct the change effort towards achieving the schools new vision. The best way
to achieve a vision is to look at the characteristics of an effective vision:

An Eco Friendly Architecture, H E C. E B At Muller And The...
Nowadays, sustainability has been taken more into consideration for contemporary designs as it
means people need to leave enough resources for future generation while they are consuming for
their own needs which requires people to keep a balanced relationship with natural environment
when they have their own plannings(van de Kerk and Manuel as cited in Bender, H., Judith, K.
Beilin, R, 2012). That is, some designs are well considered and constructed in order to achieve
sustainabilityin many ways, such as reducing energy consumption, having less impact to the
environment and starting to repay to nature. This essay will use the examples of an eco friendly
architecture, H E B at Muller and the city planning of Melbourne to illustrate how urban designs
can contribute to sustainability.
Some architectures are designed to consume resources more efficiently aiming not to exceed the
availability for satisfying future generation needs and continuing a balanced ecosystem. It seems
that renewable energy is being used in some architectures in order to achieve the low consumption
of resource. This is one attempt for human to try to make the buildings sustainable and ecofriendly,
because it is can be noticed that the buildings may consume materials, energy and functioning the
buildings needs to use energy as well(Cordero, 1992). It has been found that buildings did have an
impact on the environment such as generating greenhouse gas emission(Cordero, 1992). Thus, in

The Importance Of Living In The Central African Republic
The Central African Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world. As Americans, we
have so much to be thankful for, but instead we take it for granted. In this paper, I will see how
much I actually take for granted living in America compared to living in a third world country. I
will also see how different my life would be living in the Central African Republic.
Religion is a huge part of my life and if I lived in the Central African Republic then my life
would be drastically different. I have grown up in the South where mostly everyone attends
church. I attend First Baptist Church in Maiden, NC, on Wednesdays and Sundays. Church is a
stress relief for me and has shaped me into the person I am today. I am lucky that since I live in
America that I can worship whatever religion I want to freely. I also do not have to worry about a
religious war going on in America.
One thing that wouldn t be different from my life in America is that I m not in the religious
minority, since 50% of Central Africans are Christians. In 2013 a political turned religious
conflict broke out between a Muslim group called Seleka and a Christian and animist group called
anti Balaka. This conflict has cost thousands of people their lives. Villages have been burned down
and schools have been taken over by militia as bases. In America, we might not have a full blown
war yet, but tensions are high between Christians and Muslims (Cadman).

General Grain Theory
A variety of programs attempt to achieve the crime control goals established by general strain
theory, but none are explicitly drawn from general strain theory. Restorative justice programs are
an example of this. These restorative programs aim to impose less severe sanctions on offenders to
reduce the risk of offenders viewing their punishment as unjust. This is accomplished by making
offenders aware of the harm they caused and allow offenders to have a say in the sanction they are
subjected to. The offenders also have a voice in mediating with the community and victim of their
crime, which in turn helps teach them to cope with strains through legitimate, non criminal means
(Agnew, 2006). These strategies would be beneficial in allowing students to realize the emotional...

The main reason students resort to weapons carrying, criminal coping, according to general strain
theory is their lack of legitimate coping mechanisms. Schools should be required to teach and offer
students non criminal ways of coping with strains in their life. Teacher mediation would be one
effective strategy to help eliminate strains or effectively deal with strains. When students are
suffering from bullying rather than turning to weapons carrying as a coping mechanism, students
should be taught to inform their teachers of the strain and deal with it through mediation. Mediation
is a way for negative emotions to be expressed and potentially eliminate the negative stimuli of
bullying from a student s daily life. Drawing from restorative justice, which is influenced by
general strain as theory, this tactic for combating weapons carrying could be shown to be very
effective. If utilized to its full potential general strain theory can be combined with other
criminological theories to produce effective policy to oppose weapons carrying in

I.Voltaire. Candide. New York: Bantam Books, 1959. Candide by Voltaire is a very educational and
informative piece. It was chosen to be read so the students could gain a better understanding of
some of the written pieces in the Enlightenment. Voltairealso makes many references as to what
life was like in the 18th century. Voltaire not only describes the scenery but he gives a
description of almost every type of person. Whether it is lower class, working class, middle class or

Candide really teaches us of the class system and structure and we can apply this to our
understanding of the 18th century.
II.Author s Purpose
There are many things that inspired Voltaire to write Candide. The most notably known are the
Seven Years War, the 1755 Libson earthquake, and the publication of Leibniz s Manadology .
The earthquake had a large effect on theories and optimism of Voltaire s age.1 Candide greatly
revolves around optimism and these events and theories developed from other philosophes of the
Enlightenment. Voltaire was hoping to inform and entertain readers simultaneously. Voltaire uses
the idea of optimism and resurrection in a kind of hilarious way that makes it seem impossible.
He is informing readers that people shouldn t believe in this silly things but he is also doing it in a
way that will entertain them. Voltaire also uses the idea of impossibility to draw readers in and it
has a greater effect on the message he is trying to get across. Candide was intended for a critique to
most philosophers of the Enlightenment so the original audience was other philosophes. But
Candide has become so popular in that it is now intended for young adults/adults because it not only
teaches but it does it in an entertaining way. Voltaire portrays many meaningful messages
throughout the book. He mainly tires to exemplify these characteristics: the folly of optimism, the

Analysis Of Stalingrad
THE BATTLE OF STALINGRAD
In August 1942, Hitler s giant Sixth Army marched to the city that was named after Stalin. During
the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were determined to hold it at any
cost. The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on both the Russian and German side, as
well as fighting in inhuman conditions, and some of the experiences from civilians who were
trapped in the battlefield. Written by historian and author Antony Beevor, Beevor interviewed some
of the survivors and discovered new untold stories and facts in a wide range of German and Soviet
archives. Some of these included prisoner interrogations and reports of desertions and executions.
Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of WW II in Europe.
During the course of the war, changes in moods, thoughts, and impressions of the Germans,
Romanians, and Soviets were easily depicted. It documents the impact on the psychological
changes of the war but justifies how it changed the history of modern warfare as we know it. As a
story of cruelty, courage, and human suffering, Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable.
Throughout the war Hitler and Stalin made many mistakes and errors, Hitler s ego was
dangerous to the Germans and his own political power. Hitler s biggest mistake was to stop
listening to his generals who were giving him advice based on experience and impose his own will
on the army . His arrogance and overconfidence

Sexual Orientation Within America s Most Controversial...
Sexual orientation can be considered as one of America s most controversial topics. Although the
rationale and choice differs from person to person, and is considered to be a private matter of
personal preference, many people have experienced negative backlash and harsh criticism due to
their individual likings. In general, sexual orientation is defined as: a person s sexual identity in
relation to the genderto which they are attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, or
bisexual. While the definition seems to be straightforward and concise, the subject of sexual
orientation encompasses much more than just the intensity of emotional and erotic attraction and
response to members of the opposite sex, the same sex, or both... Show more content on

A person s sexual orientation is distinct from a person s gender identity and expression, but without
gender identity and expression, sexual orientation would be hard to distinguish. The term gender
identity, distinct from the term sexual orientation, refers to a person s innate, deeply felt
psychological identification as a man, woman or some other gender, which may or may not
correspond to the sex assigned to them at birth (e.g., the sex listed on their birth certificate). For
example take a child who may be born a hermaphrodite or what is commonly known as an intersex.
When birthed this child would have either male and female sex organs or sexual characteristics.
Unlike those who are heterosexual, homosexual, or even bisexual, an intersexual in my opinion
would have the most difficult time finding their sexual orientation, due to the fact at times they are
given a gender identity based on their genital formation. When in the womb intersex infants can
be spotted. The choice is up to the parent s then if they would like to assign gender to the infant.
Some of the following diagnoses at times seem to be the logical reasons behind assigning gender
to the infant. Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) is an inherited condition that technically can
be found at birth and it does not allow the body to make enough cortisol. When the cells in the
body try to make cortisol they began to become enlarged. If not

Scientific Revolution Vs Industrial Revolution
Studying the Scientific Revolution, Enlightenment, French Revolutions, Revolutions of 1830/1848,
and the Industrial Revolution has shown that these revolutions have similarities and differences.
While some revolutions have been more successful than others, each revolution is unique in its own
way. In addition, each revolution had various factors that caused the uprisings.
The causes of the Scientific Revolution consist of many things. The Scientific Revolution occurred
during the Renaissance period. This was a time of the rebirth of art and learning. This sparked
people to question the teachings of the Church and Aristotle. During the Renaissance period, people
began to use scientific methods which questioned an idea, tested the idea, and then came to ... Show

Similarly, during the Industrial Revolution, the working class formed unions that threatened to
strike if they didn t get the reforms they wanted. Workers came up with the Ten Hours Act that
demanded limiting the workday to 10 hours for children and women. Another act that changed
conditions for the working class was the Mines Act. This act prevented the women and children
from working in the mines. These reforms of the Industrial and French Revolutions helped better
the lower classes lives. The Scientific Revolution and the Industrial Revolution both had inventions
and discoveries that advanced the country and society. For example, during the Scientific
Revolution, Zacharias Janssen invented the microscope. This invention made it easier for scientists
to make precise observations and discoveries. Also, Torricelli invented the barometer to predict the
weather. This allowed people to plan accordingly to the weather. Another example of discoveries
during the Scientific Revolution included Edward Jenner s invention of the vaccine to prevent
smallpox. This kept the population safe and terminated

The Milky-Curtis Debate Analysis
The Shapely Curtis Debate had started because two men who had completely different views of
how the universe worked. At the time, the Milky Way the galaxy that the Earth is inside of, totally
not the candy bar was being debated in regards to how big it exactly was.
Below are listed the five key points in from the debate:
1.) The Milky Ways Size Harlow Shapely believed that everything that existed in the universe
could fit inside the Milky Way, and that there was only one galaxy. However, Herber Curtis was
comfortably fit in believing that our galaxy was smaller, and that there were more galaxies out
there than just the Milky Way. But, in the end, both of them had made one correct and one incorrect
statement. Shapely was correct in saying that it was larger, and Curtis was correct in saying that
there are more than just one galaxy. At this point in the debate, they had one correct and one
incorrect statement each. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Shapely had accepted the fact that the reason why we couldn t see the spiral nebula a
galaxy shaped like a spiral like its name implies was because it simply wasn t in our galaxy. At the
end of this discussion, Curtis had gotten the point due to being almost entirely correct.
3.) Observations of Novae During this third main topic, both Shapely and Curtis had gotten a
point. This was because Shapely had seen the brightness of the novea, which had shown a lot of
luminosity because of its long distance, and Curtis had suggested it was because of a bigger novea.
4.) Brightness and Spectra of the Nebulae Shapely had pointed out that the brightness and colors
that were measured of a spiral nebula far away. While Curtis didn t say anything about this, he did
note that the lines he observed of spiral nebulae were mostly made out of stars. This earned both
men a point

The Growing Importance Of Ethical Business Managers
The Growing Importance of Ethical Business Managers
Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) describe that the need for ethical business managers and practices
has never been greater. Recent financial scandals have exposed issues in the management decision
making process, suggesting a need to develop the necessary analytical and empathetic qualities so
future corporate leaders may be moral managers (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This recent
pattern of business misconduct (Michaelson, 2015) and single minded pursuit of profit has made
the promotion of ethical values a key concern for modern business organizations (Julia Shaw
Hillary Shaw, 2010). This paper will discuss how literary fiction (i.e. novels, literature, narrative,
fiction, drama, comics) can help organizations develop ethical managers by discussing (1) the
growing importance of ethical business managers (2) the benefits of a novel approach to business
ethics, and (3) the moral value of literary fiction to business.
During the past few years, many companies have seen their reputations plummet in the wake of
various corporate scandals (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). With this context of an amoral and
inept set of global management practices, Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) propose the need for a
new breed of manager, namely the moral manager. While Eastwood describes that leadership is an
essentially moral act, he elaborates that there is a disconnection between this notion and the
behavior of some business

Video Storyboard Analysis
Whether you are watching the TV or a video on YouTube, news stories are everywhere. Before
these stories are published, an abundance of filming, editing, and thinking goes into each second
of your enjoyment. Interviews are to be completed, anchors are to be filmed, and many steps are
needed to complete every story. Four years ago I was introduced to Media Broadcasting and since
then, I have grown my knowledge in creating, and producing, a news story video.
Before you begin anything in the video world, you first ought to think of an idea to report on.
This is easily the most difficult part in the entire process because you are required to prove your
creative side. Not everyone is born with a creative mind, like myself, but once you begin to ... Show

An anchor is crucial to a news story because this designated person introduces, explains, and
concludes the project. Once you have an idea of what your interviewee(s) have said, the script
writing process comes much more natural. Script writing means that you are creating the words
your anchor will read. Typically the anchor will proceed the script. For example, at the BBN, our
anchors for monthly broadcasts and individual stories create their own scripts because they are
more in touch with the story than an outsider would be. An exception to this could be TV station
anchors because there are multiple anchors. The beginning of a script is a general introduction that
presents the story and gives a brief description of what the project is about. The anchor is supposed
to be the one who speaks more so than the person(s) who had been interviewed. Paraphrasing what
one had said before is a common technique that can help the viewers better understand the point one
is trying to bring in. This technique helps the story analysis and enables the script writer to put their
own style into the presentation. Commonly this is used for the explanation, or middle of the script.
After the story is explained, like in a paper, one needs to conclude everything they have just said.
The conclusion will summarize the information you have presented without adding anything new.

Blood Ph Test Lab Report
Why am I having this test?
Arterial blood gases testing is performed to determine if you have enough oxygen in your blood.
These tests also show whether or not your blood pH is balanced. Blood pH balance means that
your blood is not too acidic (acidosis) and not too alkaline (alkalosis). A blood pH imbalance may
indicate a lung (respiratory), metabolic, or kidney disorder.
What is being tested?
The tests may include measurements of the following: pH. This is a measure of hydrogen ion
concentration. The pH level indicates the acid base balance of your blood. With increased amounts
of carbon dioxide and other acids, the pH of your blood decreases. This means that your blood
becomes more acidic.
Partial pressure of carbon dioxide. This is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be calculated from the pH and the partial pressure of carbon dioxide. It is a measurement
of the metabolic component of the acid base balance.
Partial pressure of oxygen. This is the amount of oxygen gas that is dissolved in the blood.
Oxygen saturation. This is the percentage of hemoglobin oxygen saturation. This refers to how
much oxygen is bound to hemoglobin in the red blood cells and available to be carried through the
arteries to nourish the body s cells.
Oxygen content. This is a calculated value that indicates the amount of oxygen in the blood.
Base excess or deficit. This is a calculated number that represents a sum total of the metabolic
buffering agents (anions) in the blood.
What kind of sample is taken?
A blood sample is required for this test. It is usually collected by inserting a needle into an artery.
How do I prepare for this test?
There is no preparation or fasting required for this test.
What are the reference ranges?
Reference ranges are considered healthy ranges established after testing a large group of healthy
people. Reference ranges may vary among different people, labs, and hospitals. It is your
responsibility to obtain your test results. Ask the lab or department performing the test when and
how you will get your results.

Brown Seaweed Research Paper
Medicine is always pushing to make new strides and there are millions of scientists worldwide
devoted to figuring out how the body works on a molecular level. Finding products that work in
a targeted way is always a goal in combating illnesses like cancer and while there are a number of
synthesized compounds being created, science is finding that going back to nature can yield
interesting results. Proteins and molecules exist with a purpose and more are being discovered that
work to heal the body and one of those compounds is fucoidan.
This compound is actually a part of the cell wall and gives seaweed its shiny luster. It is classified
as a type of sulfated polysaccharide and science is finding out how much it can actually do. A

Well, fucoidan has been found to also have a role in this. It stops a tumor cell from being able to
anchor to any surface in the body and without being able to anchor, there is no growing it can do.
These are just some of the ways in which this compound is amazing, but science is still working
out what else it can do and how it can be worked into treatments.
That does not mean it is not effective in helping the body. Research supports a role for it in a
variety of health ailments. Historically, eating brown seaweed was thought to help with allergies,
inflammation, hypertension, as well as infection caused by bacteria or viruses.
Foods that are good for your body in specific ways is not a new concept. In fact there is a giant
push for pomegranates as a superfood, but unlike the more well known foods, fucoidan has a
wealth of research behind it and cancer research to boot!
Why not take it in the hopes of preventing cancer? There are no side effects to its ingestion and
so if you re interested in adding this compound to your daily regime, getting some Limu Plus may

Abortion Policy Restrictions
Abortion Policy Restrictions in America
Since the landmark decision of the Supreme Court Case Roe v Wade in 1973, abortion was made
legal across the United States. The court found that it was unconstitutional within the right to
privacy to have abortion illegal under the Fourteenth Amendment; therefore, women obtained the
right to decide their own medical decisions without political interference. According to the CDC
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), since the Roe v. Wadecase abortion procedures are
now 99% safe. This raises the question: if abortion has been legal for more than 40 years, why is
the topic still a main issue today? Though legal, a majority of states have made certain regulations

Scarcity In Nineteen Eighty-Four By Big Brother
One hundred percent of US society functions on scarcity; it is the reason people face choices and
tradeoffs. In economics, scarcity refers to limitations insufficient resources, goods, or abilities to
achieve the desired ends. Figuring out ways to make the best use of scarce resources or find
alternatives is fundamental to economics. Without scarcitythere would be unlimited resources and
everyone would be able to get whatever they would like, thus eliminating competition and making
everything free. Such a utopian society can t possibly exist, as the entire economic system would
collapse with no incentive or any return for investment. Scarcity creates inequality between people
as they compete with each other for resources. In the book 1984, Big Brother... Show more content

working hours or smaller rations (Orwell P.71). Like a monopoly, big brother had no competition

citizens were getting too much food, they could easily just implement portion control and the
citizens could not do anything against it. Using the system they created, the poor and weak

Sanity of the Mind: Edgar Allan Poe
Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality. Edgar Allan
Poe The Tell Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado are both well known short horror stories
written by Edgar Allan Poe. Both short stories share similar themes and atmospheres. They are dark,
creepy, sometimes humorous and sometimes very frightening stories both narrated by a main
character in a first person point of view. Both stories tell the tale of a carefully planned and
constructed murder. Exploring the differences in the setting and atmosphere of these stories, the

This story begins around dusk when the narrator, Montresor, comes upon the antagonist,
Fortunato. As the evening darkens, so does the plot of this short story. Montresor leads Fortunato
into his vaults where he keeps his most prized wines. The vaults go very deep, are very dark, and
are covered in nitre, which is a mineral that grows upon the damp walls of the vaults and irritates
Fortunato s throat. As the story reaches its climax, Fortunato is led into the deepest and darkest
part of the vaults where his fate is awaiting him. In both of these stories, the atmosphere was heavy
with the dread of claustrophobia. In The Tell Tale Heart
, the narrator was not only trapped inside
of his own deluded mind, he was also trapped inside this house with the illusion that he
absolutely must murder this kind old man. He is unable to think about anything else until this
task is completed. The sticky feel of claustrophobia intensifies when the reader realizes the
dismembered old man is hidden underneath the floorboards of the room, in a very small and
cramped space that would require his body to be chopped up before he could fit in. In The Cask
of Amontillado, the vaults are enormously claustrophobic. The walls are damp, there are no
windows or fresh air, and the antagonist will ultimately meet his demise by being trapped in a
small and dark space in the vaults. Poe understands the basic human fear of being enclosed in a
small space and uses it to horrify his readers many

Essay Analysis of Daddy by Sylvia Plath
Analysis of Daddy by Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath uses her poem, Daddy, to express deep emotions toward her father s life and death.
With passionate articulation, she verbally turns over her feelings of rage, abandonment,
confusion and grief. Though this work is fraught with ambiguity, a reader can infer Plath s basic
story. Her father was apparently a Nazi soldier killed in World War II while she was young. Her
statements about not knowing even remotely where he was while he was in battle, the only
photograph she has left of him and how she chose to marry a man that reminded her of him elude
to her grief in losing her father and missing his presence. She also expresses a dark anger toward
him for his political views and actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also presents a slight rhythm to the reading that allows for smooth reading. In keeping with her
open form, there is no set scheme to the rhyme pattern. However, there is a single ending sound
constantly repeated without a set pattern throughout the work. She also connects pairs of lines at
random just for the sake of making connections to make that particular stanza flow. At the same
time, she chose blatantly not to rhyme in certain parts to catch the reader s attention.
There are a few instances where imagery is used to carry out Plath s expression. To cite a
particular example that might lead a reader deduce their own ideas can be found in the last
stanza: And the villagers never liked you. / They are dancing and stamping on you. This
undoubtedly expresses her father s death and burial but more importantly it states a certain
humiliation she faced from everyone knowing what her father had died for, along with her own
rage toward him. Another can be found in lines 24 25: I never could talk to you. / The tongue
stuck in my jaw. The picture of someone being tongue tied along with her statement in line 41: I
have always been scared of you, demonstrate just that; she was fearful of her father. She also
gives an image that provides the reader a view of how Plath physically viewed her father and
chose a man that she states reminds her of him: A man in black with a Meinkampf look.

the sake of tearing it down. I would love to be able to turn around walking down those stairs and

elected officials, but the process and feel like they love government. That s what I love about Mary
Parker that night after dinner in Denver she said if you wantgood government you needto elect
people who believe in good government. That stuck with me so much because my opponent
currently here and Manitou Springs does not believe in good government. Instead, it is here is
what s wrong with it and here s what needs to be different. I love it and I think the process works

Comparison Of Depression In The Big Sur By Jack Kerouac
Depression affects 350 million people and is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Everyone
deals with depression a different way but it is not easy, the best way is to see a professional and
talk about it to try to let it all out, but most people come up with their own way. Depressed modern
poets such as Jack Kerouacand Sylvia Plath tried to shock themselves into reality and heal their
depression and feelings about certain subjects with alcohol and electroconvulsive therapy but could
not. They both decided to chose the outlet of poetry and release their negative feelings by writing
about similar themes. This becomes evident when one draws similarities between themes such as
isolation, nature and loveproven by examining The Big Sur by Jack Kerouac and many poetic
works from Sylvia Plath. Being a popular poet can do alot to one, and if ones fans only care about
their work and not their true feelings the artist tends to feel isolated.
When one is depressed he/she tends to isolate themselves. Kerouac and Plath both do this when
they are writing. In many of Plath s poems she writes about her loneliness, and in some she even
tells God. Plath is so depressed that she associate s life with loneliness, which proves that Plath
feels she is isolated God, but life is loneliness (Under the Night Starry Sky, Plath). Plath feels
empty, she feels useless, she is tired and just wants to relax, this proves that Plath is giving up and
she is so upset with her life that she does

My Favorite Year Essay
The focus of my essay is my favorite year. At 16, what could cause a girl to feel like this is the
best year of her life? There are three reasons that make this my best year. The first reason is
because, for the first time in my life, I felt comfortable in my body. The second reason is my
mother gave me a birthday party, that was more amazing than words. Lastly, this year was great
because I started driving. All of these, moments through this year, added up to be my best and
favorite year. I had always been overweight growing up, and I never felt comfortable in my own
skin. I had been on several diets, all of which ended either gaining, or losing half a pound. It would
depress me because I never thought I could do it. But, somewhere in the month of February, my
motherstarted an extreme diet and got me onboard. We were using her diabetic diet that her doctors
gave her for her gestational diabetes. The diet helped balance blood sugarto give you energy all day.
The UCFC Medical Center states modify your diet to help keep your blood sugar level in the

energy I would say, I could climb a mountain right now! By my birthday, which is in April, I had
lost twelve pounds and I felt great! By the end of spring, I had lost twenty six pounds. I learned so
much about myself during that time. I learned how well my body did under a routine, eating every

Space Force Position Paper
POSITION PAPER ON SEPARATE AIR AND SPACE FORCES 1. This position paper will
defend separating the air and space forces into different branches of the armed services. The first
main point will discuss opinions for separating the forces. The second main point will cover
valid arguments against the separation of forces. The third main point will further advocate for
a separate space force. 2. The most basic reason for establishing a separate space force is the
different terrain.1 We look to the Navy to be experts in the sea and the Army on the ground.2
We look to the Air Force as experts in air dominance and supremacy, not space dominance or
space power.3 Space is an afterthought for most of our leaders due to their extensive flying
backgrounds and lack of space warfare knowledge, at no fault of their own.4 It is unlikely that we
will see a space officer sitting in the Chief of Staff role if the forces remain under one command
due to the large role that air power plays over space power.5 The space terrain deserves a seat at the
table with land, air and sea.6 The only way to make this happen is to establish a separate United
States Space Force.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arguments against establishing a separate space force are becoming less relevant on a daily
basis as the demand and dependence on space capabilities grow. Many leaders view space as a
seamless domain to air, while this may hold some truth, consider the other branches also operate in
the air domain, meaning one domain does not solely belong to one branch of service.7 These
shared environments require joint coordination from all parties.8 Another common argument is the
costs associated with reorganizing efforts.9 These costs would appear steep in the beginning,
however giving the space force a separate budget and command would allow for efficiency and
effectiveness to grow over time.10 History has proven this with the separation of the Air Force
from the Army Air

In Going to Meet the Man by James Baldwin the reader opens up with a scene that is considered
one of the most horrific torture and murder scenes in history; or of the 1940 s. The story is so
graphic that it takes you away from the main idea of racism, hatred and murder. Nevertheless, the
theme of the story is a transformation of a young child into a stereotypical Black Southern
American hating bigot. Through dramatic detail Baldwin explains the mindset of a white southern

It is obvious from the story and the historical period in which the story takes place that Jesse had
grown up in an extremely racist society and experienced prejudice on a daily basis from the
attitude that his father expresses toward the black race. Here, Baldwin shows how any person in
any situation can become the victim of twisted family values and societal expectations. Baldwin
combines attacks on black people during the civil rights era and the period of history to this story
to allow the reader to understand what Jesse feels on the day his innocence and perception of
race was no more. The black body was on the ground, the head was caved in, one eye was torn

The Implementation Of Senate Bill 14
Your question concerns the implementation of Senate Bill 14, which added new voter identification
requirements for in person voting statewide. Prior to June 26, 2013; Texas and a number of other
states and political subdivisions could not alter their voting requirements without preclearance from
either the U.S. Attorney General or a three judge panel sitting for the U.S. District Court of the
District of Columbia. Following the Supreme Court decision in Shelby County, Ala. v. Holder,
states beholden to the preclearance requirement were released, subject to an amendment to the
coverage formula in В§ 4(b) of the VotingRights Act of 1965. While you understand that Texas now
has equal ability to alter its electionprocedures as states never covered by В§ 4(b), you desire to
do so in a way that would not again bring the Texas legislature s exercise of authority under the
scrutiny of Congress or the Constitution. Senate Bill 14 amended, most significantly, Sec. 63.0101
of the Election Code the Documentation of Proof of Identification section. Texas voters could
previously show their (1) voter certificate, (2) any ID issued by a government agency in any state,
whether or not the ID was expired, (3) any photo ID that established identity, (4) birth certificate or

Theories Of Narcissism
1) Introduction
In business world, the type and the level of competition have become very complicated and been
changing rapidly. In this competition, environment, survival of the firms/organizations turns out to
be dependent on their ability to follow/adapt these ever changing updates and behaviours with
regards to their requirements.
It is very obvious that employees in organizations have become more sentient and educated than the
past. Individuals expectations get higher and they question their eigenvalue within the organization.
With this changing profile of employees, the management of relationships become more important
and cause changes on effective leadership styles. This also increases the importance of having
social and individual abilities for being a leader.
Lately, narcissism which is a psychological term has started to be attributed with leadership.

goes home. With 84% of all pediatric surgical procedures performed on an outpatient basis, the
importance of teaching parents how to assess for and manage pain has become more important

it is apparent that pediatric pain is not being treated effectively. The study showed that 58.8% of
children were receiving less than the daily recommended does prescribed by the pediatrician

actually in pain. 36% of parents believed that if their child was in pain, they would cry out for
the parent , 30% agreed that their child would always tell them if they are in pain, while 22% said
that the child would report their pain immediately (Rony, Fortier, Chorney, Perret, Kain, 2010, ).

Essay On Child Discipline
Every human being has been disciplined at some point of their life. The term discipline can be
defined as to teach knowledge and skills; however, it is often equated to punish and control in
parenthood. The different ways to discipline a child has been a hot subject since the early times of
the biblical period. Many states in the United Stateshad created laws to protect children from child
abuse. In the last decade child abuse has been on a rapidly growing issue. The goal of parenting is
to provide a child with the necessaries and emotional care to further their physical, emotional and
social devolvement. This can be a challenging task to meet because every parent has their own
disciplinemethod to get their child fit for the real world, so they can be successful in life. The five
discipline methods are time out, Logical Consequences, Natural Consequences, Withholding
Privilege, and disciplinary spanking. Although many parents believe that disciplinary spanking is
the best discipline method for a child, but many studies shown that it should not be practiced due
to acting out of rage and can have future problems in a child adulthood. Finding the right
discipline method can be difficult and stressful tasks. Many parents want the best for their child
as a result this can create many issues to figure out which discipline method should be use. When
a child doesn t follow direction it can be a headache for a parent. Time out is a good method for
younger children around the age

An Overview Of Business Intelligence
An Overview of Business Intelligence All great organizations share one thing in common, the use of
business intelligence. Business intelligence (BI) provides tools that revolutionize the way
organizations manage business and decision making. It allows them to transform mass amounts of
raw data into reliable information necessary to make important business decisions. BI delivers
relevant and reliable information to those who seek it with the goal of achieving better decisions
faster. An employee is independently able to navigate through a company s data and find what he
or she needs without relying on others. This means an organization no longer needs to dig through
compiled webs of linked spreadsheets, analyze the data manually and mash together reports.
Instead, employees can use BI systems to request the specific information that is useful for them
(Hitachi Solutions Canada, 2014). BI allows managers to reach the most accurate and
contemporaneous information an organization s database cannot retrieve. The software offers
applications for both data analysis and presentation of results. Applications such as data mining and
decision support systems allow one to contemplate how he or she wants to analyze the data. Data
mining refers to the process of searching for valuable business information in a large database, data
warehouse, or data mart. Decision support systems combine models and data in an attempt to
analyze semi structured and some unstructured problems with

Dbr Case
Based on the information in this case analysis, what are the types of threats DBR may be facing?
DBR is facing various kinds of threats like one from its competitors who could try to steal the
intellectual property of DBR and other from the advanced hackers who may be against the
offshore oil drilling projects and could target DBR for their role in those projects.
Corporate Theft Sabotage
Recently DBR released their advanced robotic prototype at an international tradeshow. Industry
experts have termed this prototype as the most advanced robotic system and also suggest that this
prototype is at least 5 years ahead of what DBR s competition has to offer. Because of this reason,
DBR fear that their competitors could try and steal their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Espionage through advanced persistent threat (APT)
Advanced persistent threat (APT) is most critical information security threat. Competitor
companies could try such attacks with intent of having ongoing access to DBR s research data. In
these attacks, the data is not damaged or deleted, but is stolen without raising any alarms. This is
the most advanced and critical threat because with APT attacks, competitors can have unrestricted
access to DBR s network and data for as long as they desire.
Corporate Theft Sabotage
The threat which DBR is facing from its competitors is another significant threat. Before the launch
of the new prototype robot, DBR s competitors had an upper hand in the market which they lost
once the DBR announced their new prototype. Network attacks from the DBR s competitors could
be aimed at either at stealing the intellectual property so that they can again get in front in the
robotics market or those attacks could be for damaging or corrupting the research data so that DBR
is not able to function as efficiently. Such network attacks are also capable of damaging the
company s infrastructure. Competitor s intent behind these threats is straightforward, they want to
get ahead in the market either by stealing the information from DBR or by hampering DBR s
functioning through data and infrastructure damage.
Sabotage Information extortion
Environment hacktivists may attack the network of DBR with

Trenton Narrative
That was the scariest baseball game I have ever experienced! One day we were at Trenton s
baseball game (by they way this was about two years ago). Everything was going fine until I
started to hear large shrieks of panic. I looked up and saw a huge funnel cloud! We were told to
stay there to wait it out but I thought it was the dumbest thing I ve ever heard, so we got Trenton
and ran to the car. By now, we were just racing home since the funnel was turning into a tornado.
Once we got home, we were just hearing sirens after sirens. I think I fell asleep for 2 hours but
woke up to the sound of my mom yelling because we lost the cat! We looked in the house until my
brother, Creighton, found him behind the computer table. Once we found him

Effects Of Containment In The Korean War
Containment in the Korean War
With the help of militaristic and economic aid from Soviet Russia, North Korea had South Korea
cornered in the Pusan Perimeter by September of 1950 and a communist victory looked inevitable.
However, the United States ditched their policy of isolationism and joined the war effort alongside
other United Nations forces and supported South Korea. Since the North Koreans now had to send
their supplies all the way down to their soldiers in Pusan, General Douglas MacArthur took
advantage of this and instead of using ground forces to fight the North Koreans in Pusan,
MacArthur used the United States Navy to flank the supply line in the Battle of Inchon which
occurred in September of 1950. This allowed the United States to take back the capital, Seoul, for
South Korea which weakened the North Koreans on top of the blockaded supply line. After
Inchon was destroyed, United States ground forces moved upwards. On September 25th of 1950,
the North Koreans took back Seoul so the United States released an air raid on the North Koreans.
By October 7th, the Unites States Forces crossed the pre war border. The North Koreans were
pushed up close to the Chinese border when China threatened to send troops into Korea. MacArthur
had similar ideals as Senator Joseph McCarthy in that they felt that the US was being too soft on
communism and needed to do more about it (Mattingly). So when China threatened to send troops
in, MacArthur thought that China was bluffing and

The same person may act as mediator and arbitrator in this type of agreement.
Ombudsman are independent office holders who investigate and rule on complaints from members
of the public about maladministration in government and, in particular, services in both the public
and private sectors. Some ombudsman use me3diation as part of their dispute resolution procedure.
The powers of ombudsman vary. Most ombudsman are able to make recommendations, only a few
can make decisions which are enforceable through the courts.
ADR is a far quicker means to arrive at the solution than resorting to the court. The delays in the
court litigations are well known, and waiting for a case to come to court may (especially in
commercial cases) add considerably to the overall cost and adversely affect business.
Many procedures try to work without any need for legal representation, and even those that do
involve lawyers may be quicker and therefore cheaper than resorting to the court.
Alternative methods tend to be more informal than court procedure; without the complicated rules
that exist in court procedure. The process can therefore be less intimidating and less stressful than
bringing court actions.
ADR proceedings are private. Accordingly, the parties can agree to keep the proceedings and any
results confidential. This allows them to focus on the merits

Arduino Uno is chosen to be the drive the brain of the robot (Fig1). Dinner is served was the

The Beat Movement And Kerouac s On The Road
The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers.
The word beat originally meant weary but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of this
movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular work
and sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs. Works
that capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsbergs long, free verse poem, Howl, published
in 1956, and Jack Kerouacs novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957.
Alan Freed s listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that
grew out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock n roll. In the early
and mid 1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis
Presley brought rock n roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who
bought their records. Elvis Presley, the unofficial King of Rock n Roll, first developed his musical
style by singing in church and listening to gospel, country, and blues music on the radio in
Memphis, Tennessee. Not surprisingly, many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One proposed solution to the housing problem in inner cities was urban renewal. The National
Housing Act of 1949 was passed to provide a decent home and a suitable living environment for
every American family. This act called for tearing down rundown neighborhoods and constructing
low income housing. Later, the nation s leaders would create a new cabinet position, Housing and
Urban Development (HUD), to aid in improving conditions in the inner city. Although dilapidated
areas were razed, parking lots, shopping centers, highways, parks, and factories were constructed on
some of the cleared land, and there was seldom enough new housing built to accommodate all the

Switch from Windows to Linux
Introduction
The switch from Windows to Linux is something that many organizations contemplate doing but
many tread this route with much care. In recent years management has been concerned with the
rising cost of doing business; the security of their patents and customer information were their
major concerns. While most agree that these issues deserve attention, consensus dissolves on how
to solve the concern. This proposal is to elaborate to the process to switch from Windows to Linux.

Plan for Migration from Windows to Linux
The transition from Windows to Linux can be long and take months to achieve, the moving of
data setting the installations of the servers and clients is time consuming and need professionals
to handle it, however the transition is more than worth it. A good transition to take place would
require extensive planning of resources, time and expertise. The best approach to deal with
migrate from Windows to Linux is gradual, one department after another. The service of servers
is the most critical phase to start with. A typical office uses shared resources to maximize on the
resource hence it is critical to start with the services that are shared the most and change those
first. Printing, Storage and application servers are some of the critical areas that any organization
s IT want to see go as smooth as possible. Linux can be configured from installation to be a server
or just a regular desktop client. Once the servers have been installed in place then the clients that
are going to be pulling the resources from it can be installed and integrated gradually to avoid
disruption of services to the workers.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, By Dylan Thomas
Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night is a poem written by Dylan Thomas. It has a strong
universal message, which has inspired and influenced many writers and performers alike over
decades. The poem is encouraging people to push to survive until death and to not succumb to the
peaceful release of dying, but to always fight for more life.
Thomas ultimate purpose in Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night is to inspire people to keep
going and to realize how amazing life can really be. He speaks of fighting against death, even in old
age and bad health. This shows the importance to Thomas of having a meaningful life and not
pettily releasing yourself to death. According to Cyr, the poem is directed towards his father, who
is on his deathbed at the time of writing. Thomas repeatedly tells him to Rage, rage against the
dying of the light. Even though death is inevitable, old people should resist dying for as long as
they can because being alive means having passion and emotions. The theme of this poem
represents mortality, or the struggle to survive. If someone has not truly lived their lives, or left an
impact, they should always fight against the death, ultimately making their life more worthwhile. ...

more personal and emotional because he speaks of his father. The message of the poem and why

Cause Of The Korean War
Cause of the Korean War The Korean War is often referred to as the forgotten war, but when 5
million people are killed during a three year period, the war should not be so easily forgotten.
(Staff, 2009) The causes of the war need to be reviewed, so that in the future, humanity can view
ways to prevent it from happening again. There are numerous factors that need to be considered
when examining the causes of the Korean War, such as the way the Korean peninsula came to be
North and South Korea, the role Korea played during the Cold War, the type of governments that
were put into place after the North and South were separated, and the support that was provided to
the North and South by other countries.

The United States also did not want the Soviet Union to strengthen their hold in the Pacific with the
fear of communism spreading across the world. This caused tensions between the two countries that
would bleed over to the commencement of the Korean War and aggravated Cold War relation
between the world s two superpowers.
The Korean War had a profound effect on the Cold War. The USSR and U.S. provided a lot of
support for North and South Korea during and after the war based on the agendas of Moscow
and Washington. After World War II, with the divided of Germany and Korea, the Cold War had
started. America backed by the United Nations wanted free governments in the world and the
Soviet Union want to have control over the world under communist governments. The Soviets saw
the United Nations as a threat in Europe and the same can be said for the Korean peninsula.
(Encyclopedia, 2016) Both superpowers of the world had their own visions of how the world
should look. This is why the Cold War influence the Korean War, because without the battle of
communism versus capitalism, the Korean War might not have happened, or would have played
out very differently. The cause of the tension in Korea started with the inconclusive split of the
country, but the two governments that were put into place after World War II fueled the fire for the
start of the Korean War. The United States chose a democratic

  • 2. How Did Van Heones Use Propaganda To Show Her It A Man s... The fifteen years following World War II saw unprecedented growth in the United States economy. This postwar prosperity fueled the purchase of material goods by the American people as personal savings were at an all time high (Divine 946). The advertising industry turned from wartime propaganda to advertisement of consumer goods. The Phillips Jones Corporation, who manufactured Van Heusen apparel, used print advertisement to promote its product. The Van Heusen advertisement, Show her it s a man s world , appeared during the 1950 s and symbolized the perceived ideal that women were subservient to men. The ad pictures various neckties, which are intended to show male confidence and power when worn. The woman in the ad is pictured wearing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Aircraft Icing Introduction Plane crashes occur for a number of reasons. There seems to be a consensus with the general public that flying is dangerous, engines fail and planes crash. That is true some times, although the majority of plane crashes occur largely due to a combination of human error and mechanical failure. In much of aviations accidents mechanical failure has been a contributing factor. It is impossible however to blame plane crashes on one reason since events leading up to an accident are so varied. Reasoning for plane crashes can be placed in a broad number of categories. Environmental conditions play a vital part in aviation as a whole. Much planning goes into a flight based on the current and forecast weather conditions for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also issued 18 airworthiness directives for all pilots operating small commuter aircraft, instructing them on how to recognize and respond to dangerous icing conditions. (Krock, 2004, 4). As a step to resolve icing accident investigations the FAA has issued airworthiness directives for aviation operators such as: Monitoring ice build up, and getting out of icing conditions if the buildup is unusually high, on anti icing equipment sooner rather than later, avoid abrupt and excessive maneuvering that may exacerbate control difficulties, do not extend flaps when holding in icing conditions (which can reduce angle of attack), If flaps are extended, do not retract until the airframe is clear of ice, and report icing conditions to ATC. (Holzapfel, 2000, 9). Aircraft icing is closely studied in wind tunnels, although it is very difficult for them to simulate different icing conditions. Such icing research is conducted at John H. Glenn Research Center using the Icing Research Tunnel, the largest refrigerated icing tunnel in the world, and the Twin Otter icing research aircraft. New techniques are also under investigation for testing subscale components in icing tunnels. A new area of interest is in the field of remote detection of icing condition. This could encompass technologies utilizing ground based, in flight, or satellite mounted detection methods (Potapczuk, 6). Goodrich has come up with a high tech solution to the problem of detecting ice on aircraft ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These trends are not confined to European or American music markets. Baidu, China s largest online search company, recently signed a deal with rights holders to license music on its website for both free download and streaming (Hille, 2011). The surge in popularity has led some to believe that the digital music market represents the recording industry s next sustainable business model, along with diversification into live events and merchandise. However, relatively little is understood about the consumer who uses a combination of legal and illegal sources to acquire music a la carte. In the decade prior to the Internet, the music industry was relatively healthy overall with worldwide sales peaking in 1998 (Baym, 2010). Since then, peer to peer (P2P) networks such as Napster have contributed to the decline in sales of CDs. There is some disagreement about the extent to which file sharing has negatively impacted the recording; however, evidence points to copyright infringement as a significant factor. The digitalization of music effectively removed the industry s monopoly on high quality reproduction so that illegal copies were of equal standard to the original (May, 2007). Concomitantly, the intangible nature of digital music has resulted in new consumption practices. Efforts to counter digital piracy have primarily used legal mechanisms to dismantle P2P networks and prosecute file sharers. More ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Tap Water Problem Assignment 3 In the New York Times article, Unsafe Lead Levels in Tap Water Not Limited to Flint, journalists Michael Wines and John Schwartz give examples of various cities in America that have had issues with lead contamination in public drinking water, signaling that the current water crisis in Flint is not an abnormality. Washington D.C., Durham and Greenville, N.C., and Jackson, Mississippi are some of the cities in the past 15 years that have been victim to lead contamination (Wines and Schwartz). Although most of the public water systems in the Unites States are deemed safe, these intermittent cases of contamination are the result of holes in safety rules and procedures (Wines and Schwartz). According to Dr. Jeffrey K. Griffiths, professor of public health at Tufts University and former E.P.A. chairman, there are many threats to the water supplyin addition to lead. Along with a multitude of potentially harmful contaminants and aging infrastructure, there is also the possibility of an unprofessional or incompetent actor to break through protective safeguards (Wines and Schwartz). While commonsense regulations and restorative measures, like new provisions to the Clean Water Act or investments in new waterlines, have been proposed as solutions to address these problems, they are met with blowback, with complaints ranging from intrusiveness to the idea that more regulations unnecessarily hurt business (Wines and Schwartz).... • 6. The s Treatment Of Killer Whales Ever since the entertainment industry began to capture animals for the enjoyment of others, activists who believe animals can only subsist in the wild have been protesting against this monstrous act, using powerful propaganda to entice others to join their cause. The critically acclaimed film Blackfish, which highlights SeaWorlds treatment of killer whales, apparently reveals shocking and appalling insight on accidental deaths caused by captive killer whales. One of the highest grossing documentaries of all time, as stated on director Gabriela Cowperthwaite s website, Blackfish has captivated millions of viewers, causing them to reevaluate their values and advocating against SeaWorld. Although Cowperthwaite has stated in an interview that the film is not at all advocating for anything, and that she attempted to take a journalistic approach to documenting these phenomena, it is clear that the events depicted in the film reflect opposition to SeaWorld and its captivity of whales. Although Blackfish extensively applies human emotionand concepts to the animal kingdom to solicit sympathy from the viewers and provides misleading information to add to the sense of credibility, further research contradicts the points made in the film, rendering the conveyance of the film s admonition against the captivity of killer whales ineffective. The weight of the film lies in the deep emotional underpinnings that convince viewers to feel compassion for the captive whales. The film ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Principals Can Establish School-Wide Success Researchers who have examined education leadership agree that effective principals are responsible for establishing a school wide vision of commitment to high standards and the success of all students. As previously mentioned, principals, up until now, were seen as nothing more than building managers, but career success in a global economy depends on a strong education. In a school, that building towards career success starts with the principal spelling out high standards and rigorous learning goals, Vanderbilt University researchers asserted with underlined emphasis. Specifically, they say, The research literature over the last quarter century has consistently supported the notion that having high expectations for all, including clear and public standards, is one key to closing the achievement gap between the advantaged and fewer advantaged students and for raising the overall achievement of all students. During the development phase of CCSSI, this was the primary goal. Therefore, developing a shared vision around standards, and success for all students is an essential element of school leadership. In what way can this be done? Using Kotter s 8 Step will demonstrate how to implement a shared vision: 1.Developing a vision and strategy. Administrators need to create a vision and corresponding strategies to help direct the change effort towards achieving the schools new vision. The best way to achieve a vision is to look at the characteristics of an effective vision: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. An Eco Friendly Architecture, H E C. E B At Muller And The... Nowadays, sustainability has been taken more into consideration for contemporary designs as it means people need to leave enough resources for future generation while they are consuming for their own needs which requires people to keep a balanced relationship with natural environment when they have their own plannings(van de Kerk and Manuel as cited in Bender, H., Judith, K. Beilin, R, 2012). That is, some designs are well considered and constructed in order to achieve sustainabilityin many ways, such as reducing energy consumption, having less impact to the environment and starting to repay to nature. This essay will use the examples of an eco friendly architecture, H E B at Muller and the city planning of Melbourne to illustrate how urban designs can contribute to sustainability. Some architectures are designed to consume resources more efficiently aiming not to exceed the availability for satisfying future generation needs and continuing a balanced ecosystem. It seems that renewable energy is being used in some architectures in order to achieve the low consumption of resource. This is one attempt for human to try to make the buildings sustainable and ecofriendly, because it is can be noticed that the buildings may consume materials, energy and functioning the buildings needs to use energy as well(Cordero, 1992). It has been found that buildings did have an impact on the environment such as generating greenhouse gas emission(Cordero, 1992). Thus, in order to reduce the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Importance Of Living In The Central African Republic The Central African Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world. As Americans, we have so much to be thankful for, but instead we take it for granted. In this paper, I will see how much I actually take for granted living in America compared to living in a third world country. I will also see how different my life would be living in the Central African Republic. Religion is a huge part of my life and if I lived in the Central African Republic then my life would be drastically different. I have grown up in the South where mostly everyone attends church. I attend First Baptist Church in Maiden, NC, on Wednesdays and Sundays. Church is a stress relief for me and has shaped me into the person I am today. I am lucky that since I live in America that I can worship whatever religion I want to freely. I also do not have to worry about a religious war going on in America. One thing that wouldn t be different from my life in America is that I m not in the religious minority, since 50% of Central Africans are Christians. In 2013 a political turned religious conflict broke out between a Muslim group called Seleka and a Christian and animist group called anti Balaka. This conflict has cost thousands of people their lives. Villages have been burned down and schools have been taken over by militia as bases. In America, we might not have a full blown war yet, but tensions are high between Christians and Muslims (Cadman). Living in the United States I have been able to get a free ... • 10. General Grain Theory A variety of programs attempt to achieve the crime control goals established by general strain theory, but none are explicitly drawn from general strain theory. Restorative justice programs are an example of this. These restorative programs aim to impose less severe sanctions on offenders to reduce the risk of offenders viewing their punishment as unjust. This is accomplished by making offenders aware of the harm they caused and allow offenders to have a say in the sanction they are subjected to. The offenders also have a voice in mediating with the community and victim of their crime, which in turn helps teach them to cope with strains through legitimate, non criminal means (Agnew, 2006). These strategies would be beneficial in allowing students to realize the emotional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason students resort to weapons carrying, criminal coping, according to general strain theory is their lack of legitimate coping mechanisms. Schools should be required to teach and offer students non criminal ways of coping with strains in their life. Teacher mediation would be one effective strategy to help eliminate strains or effectively deal with strains. When students are suffering from bullying rather than turning to weapons carrying as a coping mechanism, students should be taught to inform their teachers of the strain and deal with it through mediation. Mediation is a way for negative emotions to be expressed and potentially eliminate the negative stimuli of bullying from a student s daily life. Drawing from restorative justice, which is influenced by general strain as theory, this tactic for combating weapons carrying could be shown to be very effective. If utilized to its full potential general strain theory can be combined with other criminological theories to produce effective policy to oppose weapons carrying in ... Candide really teaches us of the class system and structure and we can apply this to our understanding of the 18th century. II.Author s Purpose There are many things that inspired Voltaire to write Candide. The most notably known are the Seven Years War, the 1755 Libson earthquake, and the publication of Leibniz s Manadology . The earthquake had a large effect on theories and optimism of Voltaire s age.1 Candide greatly revolves around optimism and these events and theories developed from other philosophes of the Enlightenment. Voltaire was hoping to inform and entertain readers simultaneously. Voltaire uses the idea of optimism and resurrection in a kind of hilarious way that makes it seem impossible. He is informing readers that people shouldn t believe in this silly things but he is also doing it in a way that will entertain them. Voltaire also uses the idea of impossibility to draw readers in and it has a greater effect on the message he is trying to get across. Candide was intended for a critique to most philosophers of the Enlightenment so the original audience was other philosophes. But Candide has become so popular in that it is now intended for young adults/adults because it not only teaches but it does it in an entertaining way. Voltaire portrays many meaningful messages throughout the book. He mainly tires to exemplify these characteristics: the folly of optimism, the corrupting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Analysis Of Stalingrad THE BATTLE OF STALINGRAD In August 1942, Hitler s giant Sixth Army marched to the city that was named after Stalin. During the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were determined to hold it at any cost. The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on both the Russian and German side, as well as fighting in inhuman conditions, and some of the experiences from civilians who were trapped in the battlefield. Written by historian and author Antony Beevor, Beevor interviewed some of the survivors and discovered new untold stories and facts in a wide range of German and Soviet archives. Some of these included prisoner interrogations and reports of desertions and executions. Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of WW II in Europe. During the course of the war, changes in moods, thoughts, and impressions of the Germans, Romanians, and Soviets were easily depicted. It documents the impact on the psychological changes of the war but justifies how it changed the history of modern warfare as we know it. As a story of cruelty, courage, and human suffering, Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable. Throughout the war Hitler and Stalin made many mistakes and errors, Hitler s ego was dangerous to the Germans and his own political power. Hitler s biggest mistake was to stop listening to his generals who were giving him advice based on experience and impose his own will on the army . His arrogance and overconfidence ... • 15. Sexual Orientation Within America s Most Controversial... Sexual orientation can be considered as one of America s most controversial topics. Although the rationale and choice differs from person to person, and is considered to be a private matter of personal preference, many people have experienced negative backlash and harsh criticism due to their individual likings. In general, sexual orientation is defined as: a person s sexual identity in relation to the genderto which they are attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual. While the definition seems to be straightforward and concise, the subject of sexual orientation encompasses much more than just the intensity of emotional and erotic attraction and response to members of the opposite sex, the same sex, or both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A person s sexual orientation is distinct from a person s gender identity and expression, but without gender identity and expression, sexual orientation would be hard to distinguish. The term gender identity, distinct from the term sexual orientation, refers to a person s innate, deeply felt psychological identification as a man, woman or some other gender, which may or may not correspond to the sex assigned to them at birth (e.g., the sex listed on their birth certificate). For example take a child who may be born a hermaphrodite or what is commonly known as an intersex. When birthed this child would have either male and female sex organs or sexual characteristics. Unlike those who are heterosexual, homosexual, or even bisexual, an intersexual in my opinion would have the most difficult time finding their sexual orientation, due to the fact at times they are given a gender identity based on their genital formation. When in the womb intersex infants can be spotted. The choice is up to the parent s then if they would like to assign gender to the infant. Some of the following diagnoses at times seem to be the logical reasons behind assigning gender to the infant. Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) is an inherited condition that technically can be found at birth and it does not allow the body to make enough cortisol. The causes of the Scientific Revolution consist of many things. The Scientific Revolution occurred during the Renaissance period. This was a time of the rebirth of art and learning. This act prevented the women and children from working in the mines. These reforms of the Industrial and French Revolutions helped better the lower classes lives. The Growing Importance Of Ethical Business Managers The Growing Importance of Ethical Business Managers Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) describe that the need for ethical business managers and practices has never been greater. Recent financial scandals have exposed issues in the management decision making process, suggesting a need to develop the necessary analytical and empathetic qualities so future corporate leaders may be moral managers (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This recent pattern of business misconduct (Michaelson, 2015) and single minded pursuit of profit has made the promotion of ethical values a key concern for modern business organizations (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This paper will discuss how literary fiction (i.e. novels, literature, narrative, fiction, drama, comics) can help organizations develop ethical managers by discussing (1) the growing importance of ethical business managers (2) the benefits of a novel approach to business ethics, and (3) the moral value of literary fiction to business. During the past few years, many companies have seen their reputations plummet in the wake of various corporate scandals (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). With this context of an amoral and inept set of global management practices, Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) propose the need for a new breed of manager, namely the moral manager. Four years ago I was introduced to Media Broadcasting and since then, I have grown my knowledge in creating, and producing, a news story video. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An anchor is crucial to a news story because this designated person introduces, explains, and concludes the project. Once you have an idea of what your interviewee(s) have said, the script writing process comes much more natural. Script writing means that you are creating the words your anchor will read. Typically the anchor will proceed the script. For example, at the BBN, our anchors for monthly broadcasts and individual stories create their own scripts because they are more in touch with the story than an outsider would be. An exception to this could be TV station anchors because there are multiple anchors. The beginning of a script is a general introduction that presents the story and gives a brief description of what the project is about. The anchor is supposed to be the one who speaks more so than the person(s) who had been interviewed. Paraphrasing what one had said before is a common technique that can help the viewers better understand the point one is trying to bring in. This technique helps the story analysis and enables the script writer to put their own style into the presentation. Commonly this is used for the explanation, or middle of the script. After the story is explained, like in a paper, one needs to conclude everything they have just said. The conclusion will summarize the information you have presented without adding anything new. ... At the same time, she chose blatantly not to rhyme in certain parts to catch the reader s attention. There are a few instances where imagery is used to carry out Plath s expression. To cite a particular example that might lead a reader deduce their own ideas can be found in the last stanza: And the villagers never liked you. / They are dancing and stamping on you. In Going to Meet the Man by James Baldwin the reader opens up with a scene that is considered one of the most horrific torture and murder scenes in history; or of the 1940 s. The story is so graphic that it takes you away from the main idea of racism, hatred and murder. Nevertheless, the theme of the story is a transformation of a young child into a stereotypical Black Southern American hating bigot. Through dramatic detail Baldwin explains the mindset of a white southern police officer and how he came to hate Black Americans. This was representative of the racial, violent black South because this exemplified what happens to most white Americans and how they are brained washed unknowingly to hate anyone that does not resemble the same... It is obvious from the story and the historical period in which the story takes place that Jesse had grown up in an extremely racist society and experienced prejudice on a daily basis from the attitude that his father expresses toward the black race. Here, Baldwin shows how any person in any situation can become the victim of twisted family values and societal expectations. Baldwin combines attacks on black people during the civil rights era and the period of history to this story to allow the reader to understand what Jesse feels on the day his innocence and perception of race was no more. The black body was on the ground, the head was caved in, one eye was torn out one ear was hanging. But one had to look carefully to realize this, for it was, now, merely, a black charred object on the black, charred ground. Boy, Objects, things; replaceable things. Never first names, last names, Mr or Sir in between names just things. Never remembered other than a picture taken for a personal photo album hanging from a noose. • 34. The Implementation Of Senate Bill 14 Your question concerns the implementation of Senate Bill 14, which added new voter identification requirements for in person voting statewide. Prior to June 26, 2013; Texas and a number of other states and political subdivisions could not alter their voting requirements without preclearance from either the U.S. Attorney General or a three judge panel sitting for the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia. Following the Supreme Court decision in Shelby County, Ala. v. Holder, states beholden to the preclearance requirement were released, subject to an amendment to the coverage formula in В§ 4(b) of the VotingRights Act of 1965. While you understand that Texas now has equal ability to alter its electionprocedures as states never covered by В§ 4(b), you desire to do so in a way that would not again bring the Texas legislature s exercise of authority under the scrutiny of Congress or the Constitution. Senate Bill 14 amended, most significantly, Sec. 63.0101 of the Election Code the Documentation of Proof of Identification section. • 42. An Overview Of Business Intelligence An Overview of Business Intelligence All great organizations share one thing in common, the use of business intelligence. Business intelligence (BI) provides tools that revolutionize the way organizations manage business and decision making. It allows them to transform mass amounts of raw data into reliable information necessary to make important business decisions. BI delivers relevant and reliable information to those who seek it with the goal of achieving better decisions faster. An employee is independently able to navigate through a company s data and find what he or she needs without relying on others. This means an organization no longer needs to dig through compiled webs of linked spreadsheets, analyze the data manually and mash together reports. Instead, employees can use BI systems to request the specific information that is useful for them (Hitachi Solutions Canada, 2014). BI allows managers to reach the most accurate and contemporaneous information an organization s database cannot retrieve. The software offers applications for both data analysis and presentation of results. Applications such as data mining and decision support systems allow one to contemplate how he or she wants to analyze the data. Effects Of Containment In The Korean War Containment in the Korean War With the help of militaristic and economic aid from Soviet Russia, North Korea had South Korea cornered in the Pusan Perimeter by September of 1950 and a communist victory looked inevitable. However, the United States ditched their policy of isolationism and joined the war effort alongside other United Nations forces and supported South Korea. Since the North Koreans now had to send their supplies all the way down to their soldiers in Pusan, General Douglas MacArthur took advantage of this and instead of using ground forces to fight the North Koreans in Pusan, MacArthur used the United States Navy to flank the supply line in the Battle of Inchon which occurred in September of 1950. This allowed the United States to take back the capital, Seoul, for South Korea which weakened the North Koreans on top of the blockaded supply line. After Inchon was destroyed, United States ground forces moved upwards. On September 25th of 1950, the North Koreans took back Seoul so the United States released an air raid on the North Koreans. By October 7th, the Unites States Forces crossed the pre war border. The North Koreans were pushed up close to the Chinese border when China threatened to send troops into Korea.
