Impose An Income Tax On Americans Occurred During The War...
The first proposal to impose an income tax on Americans occurred during the War of 1812. After
two years of war, the federal government had accumulated a whopping $100 million of debt. To
fund the war against Britain, the government doubled the rates of its major source of revenue,
customs duties on imports, which obstructed trade and ended up yielding less revenue than the
previous lower rates. At the height of the war, excise taxes were imposed on goods and
commodities, housing, slaves and land were taxed. Finally when the war ended in 1816, these taxes
were abolished. A high tariff was then passed to retire the accumulated war debt. Thankfully, the
notion of an incometaxwas conquered (Young, 2004). However, the thought of the income tax
reappeared as an idea to fund the Union armies in the war to prevent the secession of the
Confederacy. The war was expensive, costing on average $1,750,000 a day. Struggling to meet
these expenses, the Republican Congress borrowed heavily, doubled tariff rates, sold off public
lands, imposed a maze of licensing fees, increased old excise tax rates and created new excise
taxes. But none of this was enough to fund the debt (Young, 2004)..
In July 1861, the Congress passed a 3% tax on all personal net income above $600 a year that is
equitant to about $10,000 today. However, no revenue was ever raised because a second tax
passed before the first was due on June 30, 1862. The war s demand on resources made the earlier
tax ineffective, and

There is necessity of aligning three critical levers to build a successful CRM: insight into customer
decision making, information about customers, and information processing capability. The sales
people pull up the customer data base in having the data about customer profile to adjust behavior
and offer before and during the sales call. Novel technical capabilities facilitate the adaptation of
sales presentations structure and content according to customers. Technology capacities allow the
adaptation of sales presentations structure and content according to customers. Also the way we use
CRM creates an impact on the information is delivered to customers in timely, accurate and adapted
manner.
We identify two critical components in the customer decision process: decision making assistance
and empathy. Keeping in mind the decision making assistance, the main concern for customers
remains reduction to ensure decision quality in risk monitoring. Customer uncertainty may be
related to different factors: the amount of information available, decision consequences forecast and
trust in decisions (Achrol and Stern 1988). The increase of salesperson knowledge (informing the
customer), personal attributes (proposed alternatives) and behaviors (customized information and
assistance in problem solving) through CRM is likely to guide customer in the decision

ABSTRACT
Natural products are invaluable resource of anticancer drug discovery. They generally viewed as
safe but weak, within the framework of nanotechnology, they can serve as template for potent
anticancer drugs. We first evaluated the cytotoxic activity of different propolis extracts (water,
hydroalcohol, ethanol and hexane) in many cancer cell lines, then the solid nanoparticles from the
organic solvent extracts were prepared and their cytotoxicity was evaluated as well. Finally, 1,2
dipalmitoyl sn glycero 3 phosphocholine (DPPC) and 1,2 dioleoyl sn glycero 3 phosphocholine
(DOPC) liposomes were prepared from the most cytotoxic organic solvent extract and their
cytotoxicity was also evaluated.
All results collectively showed that hexane extract and its solid nanoparticles as well as its
liposomal form exhibited high cytotoxic activity. DPPC/DOPC hexane extract cytotoxicity was

The Film Of All Time
During the summer of 2008, one of the greatest animated films of all time was released by Pixar
Animation Studios. This movie, WALLВ·E, was an instant classic in my mind, both the first
time I saw it, and to this day. The most shattering part of the film was its depiction of both our
future as humans, as well as that of our planet. Earth has become a wasteland filled with
discarded trash. Garbage has piled up in landfills, until the entire surface has become one endless
ocean of waste. There is no water to be found, no vegetation, and no life of any kind, except for
one desolate cockroach. The only other habitant is a small, box shaped robot, the title character,
programmed to clean up Earth; however, we can plainly see that this will be an... Show more

This is a plausible future for our world. Certainly not this year, maybe not in fifty years, but at
some point, our arrogant use of hazardous materials without regard for the well being of the Earth.
And I m not talking about industrial pesticides or obscure beauty products, but rather everyday
plastic. The type seen in the dozens of food wrappers you threw out just today. A safer, more
environmentally friendly alternative is critical to the future of our planet; and there is hope, in the
form of bioplastics, specifically shrilk, that is more eco friendly product and has countless potential
applications. Currently, plastics are an enormous environmental concern, and their negative impacts
on our world are becoming more evident over time. Chemicals from plastics are now being found
throughout our environment, in the air, in dust, and even in the food we eat (Knoblauch, 2009).
Such chemicals can be extremely harmful and should not be ingested or consumed by humans. One
such substance, bisphenol A, known as BPA, is found in the plastic of water bottles and pop cans,
even reusable ones (Knoblauch, 2009). This has led to 93% of people currently having traces of
BPA in their bodies (Knoblauch, 2009).
However, the harmful effects of plastics are not limited only to humans; many other living
organisms suffer from the use of plastics. In particular, marine animals are affected, as

Rhetorical Analysis Of Fdr s Pearl Harbor Address

Rhetorical Strategies in FDR s Pearl Harbor Address December 7th, 1941 a date which will live in
infamy are the famous words Franklin Delano Roosevelt used to describe one of the most
damaging surprise attacks placed on the United States. On this day of heartbreak, Japanese planes
attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, killing over two thousand people and
leaving Americans terrified and confused. The day after Japan attacked the U.S, Franklin Delano
Roosevelt delivered a speech to the nation, now known as FDR s Pearl Harbor Address to the
Nation. With the use of pathos, ethos, and logos, FDR creates one of the most persuasive speeches
in history convincing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states that The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was
still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace
in the Pacific. This proving that the United States had not done anything to provoke this attack.
Because the U.S. have done nothing to deserve this attack, FDR believes it is only logical to fight
back. FDR wants the people of the United States to know that they do not deserve to be walked on,
which is why it is logical to fight back. After FDR told the audience that we did nothing to provoke
this attack, he then let the audience know that Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an
attack against Malaya. Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong... Guam... Philippine
Islands... Wake Island. And this morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island. The fact that Japan
attacked seven different places in such a short amount of time, means that they are capable of
attacking anyone at any time. FDR s intention in announcing Japan s multiple attacks, was to have
the audience think logically of how much danger they will be in if they do not act soon.
Furthermore, FDR states that There is no blinking at the fact that our, people, our territory, and our

Lyndon Baines Overcome Rhetorical Analysis
The Civil Rights Movement of 1954 1968 is a time of struggle and efforts for African American
equality and can be categorized as a peaceful movement of restless seekers of justice. But after the
Selma to Montgomery March in Alabama in 1965, where many ended injured and one ended up
killed, President Lyndon B. Johnsonsaw this as his executive duty to show the nation that this was
an American problem that we all needed to fix. On March 15, 1965, a week after Selma, Johnson
gave We Shall Overcome, a speech whose purpose was to motivate civil rights to African
Americans and make it into a civil cause, as well as gain support for a bill that rightly legally aids
to this solution of discrimination. By using literary devices, diction, sentence... Show more content

This, in turn, aids his purpose as it brings reflection on familiar terms and people. In addition, he
uses diacope in Lines 22 ( There is no Negro problem. There is no Southern problem. There is no
Northern problem. ) where there is no ... problem is repeated. This only emphasizes his next
line, which reads There is only an American problem , which shows that there is no placing
blame for the wrongdoings of this nation. With this, he means to emphasize that we have all
been a part of this problem, and we shall all be part of the solution. Lastly, Johnson also uses
epistrophe in Lines 190 191 ( All Americans must have the privileges of citizenship regardless of
race. And they are going to have those privileges of citizenship regardless of race ), where the
phrase regardless of race is repeated. Using epistrophe has the same effect as if the speaker repeats
the same phrase for the people in the back . In other words, the use of epistrophe emphasizes
Johnson s point that race does not matter in citizenship issues. Likewise, Lyndon B. Johnson uses
diction to make his speech s purpose more impactful and echo across the country. For example,
Johnson avoids using the term U.S citizen and instead uses American, or Americans. The word
America has more powerful connotations than using the term prior. Being a U.S citizen is of legal
matters, whereas being an American refers to loving your country and being patriotic, and it has
nationalistic connotations, and in

difficulty. They are in contrast in that one helps the firm and the other helps the firm s
customers. The jobs involve working together with people so that both sides are happy in the
end. Their salaries differ as a result of their educational needs for each job. They both have a

I don t think so, as they serve different purposes. Prescriptiveists enforce cultural cohesion through
language. They help keep the written language, at least, from changing too quickly, and they do
their best to make sure everyone they have influence over knows the rules for correct grammar. No
matter your station in life, it can be an advantage to be able to use the prestige dialect in some
situations. Descriptivists are not interested in enforcing rules, but in discovering the rules and the
patterns behind them, and comparing languages and dialects. They do not consider some dialects as
substandard. Each is worthy of study. Pedagogical sentence structure is a depiction of how to use
punctuation of a language to convey, for people wanting to learn the target language. It can be
contrasted and a reference punctuation, which just portrays the sentence structure of the language.
It possesses a center ground between the ranges of Prescriptive sentence structure, which puts
forward standards about how language ought to be used accurately. It recommends language the
way that a specialist endorses prescription by saying what it should be

Abuse Of Power In Animal Farm And Antigone

necessarily the problem however excess of it or the potential holder of power may be. Countless
people have abused their power when in a position of authority. As I was taught, along with
numerous schools today, literature such as Animal Farm or Antigone portrays clear examples of
abuse of power and how it affects how the user. Introduced to me in the eighth grade, Animal Farm

The assignments are simply not intended to be exercises in arriving at a predetermined answer.
Rather, the applications of the suggested readings have the following objectives:
To provide a means for improving the writing skills of students. From all reports, accounting majors
too often leave college lacking in the basic ability to compose and construct sentences and
paragraphs. Accounting and auditing (especially as one moves up in an organization) obviously
require skills other than the purely quantitative. Memos, reports, footnotes, audit and accounting
guides, etc., all require accountants and auditors to be effective communicators of the written word.
Indeed, the instructor may want to team up with a member of the school s English or
communications department to enhance the effectiveness of these assignments. The auditing
instructor can then evaluate the technical and research portions of the assignment, while the
English instructor would make suggestions as to grammar, syntax, construction of sentences and
paragraphs, logic of the thought process, etc. As a preliminary step, the instructor may want to
assign articles such as Word Crunching: A Primer for Accountants from the March 1990 issue of
the Journal of Accountancy.

Dorothea Lynd Dix Research Paper
From the early years of her youth, Dorothea Lynd Dix endured more than her fair share of
burdens and obstacles. While growing up in Maine throughout the early 1800 s, her journey began
with her impoverished, dysfunctional family. Dorothea s father, Joseph Dix, was an unstable
religious preacher and her mother, Mary Bigelow, suffered from a mental illness and remained
emotionally distant (Staff, History.com 2009). Growing up as the eldest, Dorothea felt a
responsibility to take great care of her siblings and family. Ultimately, her family s shortcomings
and her compassion were what fueled her desire to help the less fortunate and helpless.
With limited schooling and access to job professions as a female, Dorothea still exhibited a passion
for education and learning. As she grew older, she acted upon her passion and became a
schoolteacher for children who needed an education. She even worked to develop and open up
various schools for children and each with an established curriculum (Staff, History.com 2009).
However, after experiencing serious episodes of sickness, she stopped her teaching and began to
write educational textbooks for the youth instead, some of which were published in the late 1820 s

People wonder why they have been diagnosed with cancer, they also wonder how it could have
happened. Some people don t understand why tobacco and radiation cause cancer, and that is what
is answered in this essay. The smoke that emits from smoking tobacco holds a radioactive chemical
called polonium 210. Additionally, X rays and gamma rays are recognized as human carcinogens.
As a result, smoking causes DNA damage which leads to cancer! To what extent does tobacco and
radiation cause cancer?
Polonomium 210 Major tobacco industries found that polonium 210 was in tobacco for more
than 40 years and tried to remove the substance but failed. Studies have detected polonium 210 in
the airways of smokers, where they are concentrated in hot spots. They remain there because other
chemicals in cigarette smoke damage the body s cleaning systems, which would normally get rid
of gunk in our airways (Yong). In the end, polonium 210 forms up and disturbs nearby cells to
larger amounts of alpha radiation. This leads to far larger and lengthier exposures to ... Show more

Intraductal papillary mucinous duct neoplasms of the pancreas (IPMN p) are one of the subtypes
of cystic neoplasms of the pancreas. They are neoplasms that arise in the pancreatic ducts and can
be visualized as they are usually greater than 0.5 inch in length. They are comprised of tall mucin
producing columnar cells, that have the capability of transforming into pancreatic cancer if left
untreated. Their ability to develop into pancreatic cancer is one of the main reasons behind their
significance. IPMNs commonly exhibit cell atypia, papillary propagation, and cyst production.
Their main feature is the ability to produce copious amounts of fluid.
In general pancreatic cysts are not an uncommon finding on abdominal computerized
tomography (CT) scans. A study done at University College Dublin in 2008, in which, 2,832
abdominal CT scans were evaluated for presence of pancreatic cysts, showed that 2.6% of
people have pancreatic cysts. These patients had no history of pancreatic disease, and had no
pancreatic symptoms at the time of the scan i.e the abdominal scan was done for other reasons.
Pancreatic cysts increased with age, with zero cysts found in patients below 40 and up to 8.7% of
scans of those above 80 years of age had cysts present. (12)
IPMNs of the pancreas can occur in either the main pancreatic duct or in one of its branches. The
smaller the branch size in which the neoplasm arose, the higher the likelihood of a less aggressive
neoplasm. Tumors

Comparative Advantage: Challenges
Theory of Comparative Advantage
One of the most powerful propositions of classical trade theory is that the pattern of international
trade is determined by comparative advantage. That is, a country with the comparative advantage in
a given commodity exports, and the other with the comparative disadvantage imports. Adam Smith
has founded the comparative advantage originates theory, and there have been numerous attempts
to identify the economic conditions that determine comparative advantagelet us began with Adam
Smith theory, and then we will discuss one correction of this theory was founded by Palley s

Smith s original theory was discussed and compared to its representation in modern textbooks. It

Cash Flow Planning will help you understand where your income is going and give you a better
idea of your expenses. Your cash flow planning should be realistic and paint a clear picture. As
seen earlier in your cash flow statement you have a surplus of $9,000 at the end of the year.
This tells me that your family is doing a good job of being financially responsible. I have
included a pie chart that breaks down your cash outflows. This pie chart will give you a better
idea of where your money is going. As you can see from the pie chart you biggest sources of
cash outflows are taxes and living expenses. While I think your family is doing well financially
you could benefit greatly from reducing your everyday living expenses. Your family spends a
significant amount of money on recreations, vacations, and other personal expenses. By cutting
down on these expenses you would be able to invest more money into your children s education
expenses or your own retirements. Currently you are only investing 9% of your income into
educational expenses and 6 percent of your income towards retirement. Investment Vehicles There
is no one single financial product or philosophy that is right for every family. There are many
different ways to obtain your financial goals. This section will discuss some of the different types
of investment vehicles you can use to meet your financial goals. An investment vehicle refers to

Advantages Of The Confederate Flag
The Confederate Flag Debate in Today s Society
The confederate flag has always been a symbol that has caused much controversy. It has been called
a symbol of pride, also a symbol of hate. Many people wonder why it is still seen in today s society
or why it causes so much tension if it is just a flag to some. The flag has bisected the country for
a long time (Kozlowska, 2014). It is a definite border between some citizens and a huge social
problem. It has caused issues for decades and still carries on racial slurs, white power, and bad
morals. Nonetheless the information provided compares both sides of the debate.
Research over whether or not the confederate flag is racist or a symbol of pride has been conducted
for many years now and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, the people who are confederate ignorant play a problem to society. Learning about the
reasons why is it a social problem gives a deeper understanding of where each individual comes
from.
Negative societal issues regarding the Confederate Flag
Now this was a common research scenario and many felt that it had no connotation to their life
or lifestyles. However, some were deeply hurt by the flag. In the article by Wallace Best he
states, Mama suggested that she had never seen the Confederate flag during her years in the
South because the community in which she lived was strictly segregated, and few people, black
or white, ever crossed the line (Best, 2001, p. 14. Surely this portrays that the flag to them was a
sign of racial segregation and power. The whites were powerful over the flag and many African
American s failed to see it. It was seen as stepping out of place for the blacks. (Best, 2001). Blacks
and whites were not cohesive in being together.
Even though the confederate flag stands by two different sides in society, actions were not taken
upon until recently. It happened when racial actions and hate became more prevalent through
society. An example that was shown through research was in South Carolina. This state struggled
with deciding to keep or remove the flag. The debate over whether the battle flag should remain
flying on public space went on for fifteen years

Wise Choice Tours and Bus Services The Company
Wise Choice Tours and Bus Services (WCTBS) is a new sightseeing company in its formative
stages. It is owned and managed by entrepreneur Michael Miles. The company is located in the
capital city of Georgetown. It is being organized to take advantage of a specific gap in the local
sightseeing tour market. The gap exists in high quality, reasonably priced sightseeing tours in the

The Characters Of Hawkeye And Uncas In The Last Of The...
This paper will be highlighting the characters of Hawkeye and Uncas from The Last of the
Mohicans, by James Fenimore Cooper. Showing how these two characters were changed by the
war they became a part of. Some of the growth in these men might be subtle, but there are definite
changes you see by the end of the story. In the beginning of the novel, Uncas is extremely reticent,
and prefers to let his actions speak for themselves. However, he has a strong moral compass and
does not often stray from the path that will help his companions, no matter the circumstances.
Being one of the last two Mohican Chiefs, he fights with valor against the Mingos and French,
and is strongly devoted to his father, Chingachgook and his companion Hawkeye. Uncas is an
expert at hunting and tracking, and these skills come in very handy when his love interest, Cora,
and her sister Alice are taken captive by Magua, a rival Indian who wants revenge. Uncas being
enamored with Cora is one of the romantic aspects in the novel, and one that, at the time, was
quite controversial. Being that interracial marriages were not common, and in some places was
not allowed. Uncas role in early stages of their adventure was to see to Cora and Alice. He
attended their needs without complaint, and this shows the compassionate side that until this point,
was not seen in him. By the end of the novel, Uncas had a major shift in how he was perceived
and how he viewed himself. When it was revealed

Overpriced Airlines even though you don t really have a choice because this was still the
cheapest flight you could find two weeks before your boss sprung this surprise no expenses paid

to your destination, not taking into account the 45 minute delay due to some less than
cooperative passengers, and some very smart regulations. I know that having you board was a
pain especially since we have you do it by group number, which you have no control over,
instead by row number, which just creates a giant clump of people that takes an extra 20 minutes
to sort out. Also, we are very (not) sorry about the fact that a controlling boyfriend stole your seat
without asking you or us to try and accommodate him, just so he can sit next to his girlfriend that
is clearly not enjoying life as of right now so either way your flight is going to suck because he
is supposed to sit next to a mother with a newborn baby who is not having any of this. Also, we
are kind of sorry, but not really, about the fact that people who clearly needed to check a bag in

when the flight attendant tells them to, insisting, I got this. They will finally check it in after many

The Pursuit Of Heroism In A Mystery Of Heroism By Stephen...
Heroism is a word that is difficult to define. Anyone can be considered a hero; it could be
someone with special abilities, flying around in a cape and saving the world. A hero could also be
an ordinary person, like a firefighter, risking their lives to save people from a burning building. But
just because someone does something daring, doesn t mean they are a hero. A hero must be selfless,
courageous, and clever. In the short story, A Mystery of Heroism by Stephen Crane, the theme
what it means to be an american hero is explored. Fred Collins is a member of a company who is
trapped in the middle of an intense battle. Thirsty, Collins escapes from safety, and makes a
break for a well across the battlefield, returning with the water, only for it to be spilled. Fred
Collins, a soldier from the story A Mystery of Heroism by Stephen Crane, is not an American
Hero because he behaved foolishly and irrationally, he was not admired for his actions, and he only
did it out of spite or to prove a point.

treacherous and deadly excursion. When the men realize what he is going to do the are surprised
and even start to get a little worried. Crane writes that they were amazed, staggered by the whole
affair. Their astonishment found vent in strange repetitions (Crane par. 43). They began to worry
for his safety; they did not think that Collins was brave or courageous. The men thought it was a
ridiculous idea and Collins was out of his mind. Although gutsy, Collins actions were not admirable,

The Story Of Sir Carnell
Countess Aurelia crumpled up her paper and tossed it in a pile of other balls of paper that had piled

But there was something about him that compelled her to keep trying, and poetry was what she

Sir Carnell headed for the keep.
Aurelia followed him across the bridge. They went into the keep then into the hall. Sir Carnell

Sir Carnell looked up at his king. Yes, your highness?
Respectful? Aurelia carved the word into her tablet, though it left a bad taste in her mouth.
You re coming with me, said Richard. He stood and descended the steps.
Special? Aurelia lifted her stylus to write, but stopped. Special was too general.
Queen Fayre waved at Aurelia. Hi, Aurelia! Did you write something?
Aurelia? said Richard. He leaned on the table. Didn t notice you come in.
Aurelia smiled at him and slid her tablet off the table and into her lap. She looked up at Fayre. Uh,
not yet. I m still thinking.
Alright, said Fayre. Good luck. She looked to Richard. Richard, what color do you think I look best

Potato Latkas Research Paper
The Jewish community is distinguished by a rich history, rooted in traditions that have been in
place for thousands of years, many customs, and possibly the most are dietary in nature. Foods
like potato latkas1, falafel2, and fried doughnuts are traditionally eaten during my favorite festival,
Chanukah3, a Jewish festival that commemorates the miracle of the anointing oil that burned for
eight days during the rededication process of the Temple in Jerusalem.4 Although Hanukkah5 is
an eight day festival, the best night is the last when my family has the nonpareil dinner. A great

Cooking the potato latkas is my favorite part. Potato latkas are creamy mash potatoes that are fried
in sizzling oil resulting in the crispy goodness of a perfect potato pancake. I remember the first time
we made them, they were disgusting! They were too salty and mushy, others burnt and others
turned out black which was certainly not appealing to the tastebuds. The irony of the situation was
that my dad is somewhat of a chef and he had never made anything unappetizing until that day and
as a result of that farcical moment we have adjusted the recipe, but Hanukkah has never been the
same. In spite of the fact that it was our first failed attempt, the memory allows me to remember that

Marie Antoine CarГЄme Research Paper
Marie Antoine CarГЄme
The next famous French chef that greatly changed this great cuisine is Marie Antoine CarГЄme.
Born in to a poor family on June 8th 1784, Marie Antoine CarГЄme was named in honor of Marie
Antoinette. He preferred to use the name Antonin because of his name sake s actions(Olguta).
Being one of 15 kids he had to fend for himself at a very early age. Having been kicked out of his
house, Antonin roamed the streets of Paris until a tavern keeper offered him lodging and work.
That is how he got his first job in a kitchen. Within his 6 year stay at the tavern he went from being
a pot washer to being a cook (Olguta). Without this experience Antoine would never have learned
how to cook and we would never have his many great contributions to the French cuisine. ... Show

see this uniform in kitchens today (Oulton). Another thing that CarГЄme modernized was the
organization of sauces. He classified the different sauces in to different categories, BГ©chamel,
Espagnole, Veloute, and Allemande (History of Sauces). His classification would later be changed
by Auguste Escoffier. These categories were made up by looking at the characteristics of the
sauces. For example, all sauces under the bГ©chamel category would be made from a roux, which

Violence, Mental, And Mental Health

Violence and mental health in Brazil
Today, mental disorders, violence and injuries are more prominent in low and middle income
countries (Rebeiro, 2013). Violence stems from all age groups and genders, however, Brazil faces
disproportionately high rates of violence. Violence is a major contributor to morbidity and
individual and collective costs (Reichenheim, 2011). Unfortunately, nearly 90% of people living in
Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro faced at least one lifetime traumatic experience and if only
investigating events constituted as direct exposure to violence (assaultive violence), 59.4% of
residents in Sao Paulo and 63.4% in Rio de Janeiro reported a lifetime exposure (Ribeiro, 2013).
Overall, crime is ignored in Brazil, especially interpersonal violence. The corruption in the
government and police force in conjunction with weapons, drugs, and alcohol create a system
vulnerable to violence (Reicheinheim, 2011). The relationship between population growth, which
more than tripled from 52 million in 1950 to 170 million in 2000, directly relates to increasing
rates of violence. Additionally, there is also a direct relationship with the rapid growth, and
economic burdens associated with mental disorders (Ribeiro 2013, Becker, 2013). Rates of mental
disorders surpass major categories of noncommunicable disease including diabetes, cardiovascular
diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, and cancer (Ribeiro 2013;

What Was The Impact Of The Second World War Essay
The massive impact the second world war has had on the world can still be seen today. On the

the Axis powers and Allies, which lasted from 1939 to 1945, left a definite mark on the world.

The Brain Drain and Revolution in the Late 19th and Early...
Introduction
By the end of the 19th century, Chinese officials were beginning to realize that their country s
educational infrastructure was becoming increasingly anachronistic. Traditional education largely
ignored technology considered it low class, even and students instead focused on cultivating a sense
of moral righteousness. Yet, the Confucian centered examination system was beginning to prove
ineffective in a world where modern militaries predominated in international relations. China
learned this painful lesson during a succession of lost wars, eventually entering a long period of
introspection, quite notably, by first looking outward. Foreign education systems were of particular
interest to this nation in transition. Foreign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the late Qing Empire s encounter with Western civilization was necessarily heralded by
guns, warships, and other new instruments of Western military might. The narrative of China s
dynastic glory was replaced with a newer, less flattering image of China as the sick man of Asia
(Holcombe 193). Fears of the encroaching imperial powers were only heightened after China
lost in the 1865 60 Opium War, as were fears of increasing internal disorder, as evinced by the
1851 64 Taiping Rebellion (Bary 661; Rhoads 1 2). China would later suffer yet another
humiliating defeat in the Sino Japanese War of 1894 5, but they first instituted a series of
reforms in an attempt to curtail foreign dominance, particularly in the military sphere. China thus
entered a period of so called self strengthening, a government led restoration that spanned the
years between 1961 and 1895. This movement was largely a response to these early military
defeats and the nation s perceived sense of inferiority (Rhoads 1 2; Holcombe 201). In a phrase,
the goal of self strengthening projects and the larger Tongzhi Restoration (1862 74) was to emulate
the Western countries and master their technical skills (Holcombe 201; Rhoads 9). In order to do
this, China first had to open its borders to Western influence; the late Qing first allowed

The Social Differences Between Oral And Oral History
Oral accounts are crucial to understanding historical events which may have not been recorded
through text. The whole process in oral history is important to create the bigger image of the story
and provide the meaning. The act of listening is just as complex as interpreting the story, both
aspects give historya better understanding. The uniqueness of oral history can t compare to written
history due to the compassion and emotions that are evoked while talking. There are social
implications of oral history that come in various forms which effect the process. Although it is a
complex process, it enhances historical practices for many reasons.
The comparison between oral and written history has many discrepancies that impact the
understanding of history in a great way. Oral history has the ability to evoke many emotions due
to being able to see the body language of the speaker. Gestures create emphasis on various words
which may have a significant meaning to the speaker. These gestures would not be seen through
text thus it allows readers to experience the story through emotions as well as facts. The intensity
of words also creates emphasis which is only available through speech. Francis Good uses an
analogy to express the difference between text and oral accounts. Good states manuals and
handbooks invariably provide advice on the issues, problems and strategies involved, but practice
and comment show considerable divergence at times (Good, 362) which alludes to the conclusion
that textual accounts can leave out some information. These aspects contribute to how the audience
perceives the information given, importance will be given to items which can t be expressed
through text. Oral history serves a social purpose in today s society. Oral accounts give the public a
better understanding about social, political and economic issues which may not be written about.
Oral history changes the precedent of how history is interpreted. It enhances the historical practices
by emphasizing important aspects and revealing stories which may not have been heard otherwise.
Oral history and interviews are particularly beneficial for minorities, including women and the
illiterate, to express their stories. In Telling

Tragedy And The Common Man
According to Aristotle s theory of tragedy, tragedies are best equipped to be based on a
protagonist that is renowned and prosperous, so his good fortune can be dramatically changed.
In contrast, Arthur Miller s essay Tragedy and the Common Man states that the common man is
as apt a subject for tragedy in its highest sense as kings ever were. He proves in his modern essay
that the characteristics and emotions of the common man and the highly placed are entitled to
be similar. Miller even identifies emotions of a average person and how they result in a better
tragedy than those who are highly ranked. In his play Death of Salesman he demonstrates that
the normal life of a sales man can still make for a great tragedy and that his protagonist, Willy
Loman, is worthy of a tragedy. One of the central themes related to his essay and play is that the
presence of fear in a common man s life is more prevalent and perhaps draws us closer the
character. Willy Loman s fear of not meeting the standards to the successful people around him,
such as his brother and neighbor, and the failure in his job as a father that correlates with his
children s failures is the storyline Miller presents in his play that weights down the... Show more

Physical Therapy ( Pt ) And Occupational Therapy
Physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) are two careers that help people heal and
rehabilitate. PTs and OTs may seem similar at a glance, but they have just as many differences. The
job descriptions and history vary, but the salary, and requirements are fairly alike. They both take
much skill and expertise, but few people actually understand the difference between the two.
Therapy is the treatment of disease or disability through rehabilitation processes. Both physical and
occupational therapists treat patients who have injuries or disabilities. A physical therapist treats
patients with specifically physical disabilities. They help patients recuperate from pain and injuries,
and they are also a huge part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They help theses people relearn how to perform everyday activities, like getting dressed and
brushing their teeth. PTs and OTs must both be strong, encouraging, and nurturing. For the patient,
being unable to do something is frightening, and relearning how to do certain activities can be
difficult. PTs and OTs are much needed encouragers and the quality of their work has developed
throughout the years. Since day one, physical and occupational therapy have steadily progressed
and evolved into crucial, prestigious careers. Physical therapy began around 460 BC. Hippocrates
used hydrotherapy, which uses pools or water for exercises and relief of pain, and massage
treatment. Many universities started programs for massage and physical therapy. The industry grew
during WWI because the war produced many injured soldiers who were in need of therapy. In 1921,
the American Women s Physical Therapeutic Association, later the American Physical Therapy
Association (APTA), was founded by Mary McMillan, who became known as the Mother of
Physical Therapy. The APTA official website describes the APTA as a professional membership
organization that funds and releases research and fights legal battles for PTs (Who we are).
Throughout the years, physical therapy has become a respectable career and has, and will, continue
to grow as more research and

Mass Markets and Mass Production
In today s world, Mass Markets have lost its appeal. The time where mass production of goods
and services for all customers are long gone. Mass Marketing is paving way for Niche Marketing
using more personalised approach. Mass Markets as we know are large unsegmented or
undifferentiated market where products and services are offered to every consumer using mass
marketingtechniques. On the other hand, Mass Marketing is referred to as the market coverage
approach where companies use one particular idea on the entire mass market.
The focus of Mass Markets is gradually shifting towards Niche Markets. Such markets mainly
focus on particular products to a much defined audience unlike mass markets. The product is
customised and made according to customers needs hence the customer is also ready pay for their
preferred product.
One of the examples of such mass markets was Coca Cola. Around the 1880 s, Asa Griggs Candler
bought the rights of Coca Cola originally from John Pemberton. He made unique changes to its
packaging and logo to attract its customers. He sold Coca Cola through huge advertising spending
to the mass audience becoming the first person to use this technique of mass marketing which made
Coca Cola one the most successful brands in the soft drinks sector.
The concept of mass markets first came into existence during the Second World War. During this
time, there was an increased need to produce electronic equipment s like the Radio and Television
giving rise to mass

Windows Vs. Linux 7 Drive
An operating system, abbreviated OS, is a product, software type that is part of a system,
equipment or computerized equipment, which deals with management and coordination of its
activities. The computerized system may be a computer, a workstation, a server, a PC, a
notebook, a smartphone, a road navigation device or another system with intelligence of its own.
The operating system plays the role of host for all applications running on the hardware. [2]
Windows vs. MAC vs. Linux 7 drive. After a file is stored, a person can use the Finder to locate
the file. The Finder is Mac s equivalent to the Windows Explore on Windows OS but they have a
noticeably different look. When the Finder is accessed, the default file folders will appear in a
window. With the Mac, unless you are creating a file on the desktop, any open or downloaded
files will be saved to a specific default location unless otherwise specified. File management
between Windows and Mac is not that different with the exception of the look and default file
folders. While Windows and Mac file management is very similar, Linux is much different. Many
say Linux is a system based off UNIX, but this is not true. However, they both do use an inverted
tree structure to organize the files on the operating system. It is called an inverted tree because the
file path for Linux is backward; hence the name inverted (upside down) tree structure. Linux is not
user friendly like Windows. Actually, it is far from it because

Free Market System in Belize
According to the Investopedia, a free market system is a market economy based on supply and
demand with little or no government control. It is a completely free market in which buyers and
sellers are allowed to transact freely based on a mutual agreement on price without Government
intervention in the form of taxes, subsidies or regulation . Therefore, the free market system is good
for Belize. Belize positively benefits from this system because it ensures competitive markets, the
consumers are part of the decision making process, and the supply and demand create competition.

Supply and demand create competition, which helps ensure that the best goods or services are
provided to consumers at a lower price. This will lead the businesses to having better quality and
service and by having this the business itself becomes an overall better business. This benefits the
society because they are receiving better goods and services and at a lower price. An example
would be the fruits and vegetables sold at the market. Different stalls at the market may have
different prices, so the consumer may have the option to buy the one with the lowest price or the
one with the best quality. If the good is bought based on the lowest price then the other stalls will
need to lower their price as well because if they don t then they might not sell their goods. In an
article by Chris Seabury, he states that in the United States those who want the removal of
government intervention say the free market would force the businesses to protect the consumer.
This in turn would provide the customers with quality goods and services at low price. Also he
stated that there are several disadvantages to having government intervention. Government
intervention can create a huge government bureaucracy, it can create huge monopolies, and it can
compress innovation by over regulating. Firstly, government regulation creates a huge government
bureaucracy that stifles growth. In USA many labor and environmental regulations

Jonathan Harr A Civil Action Analysis
In the novel A Civil Action by Jonathan Harr there is an obvious abuse of the judicial system by
those whom have money, connections, and resources that ordinary middle class people don t.
The main plot line of this novel is about an aspiring lawyer who hopes to be a champion of the
people affected by gross negligence on the part of two major corporations in their handling of
dangerous chemical byproducts. A Civil Action is a classic yet trust shattering tale of how our
legal system can be brought to its knees by money, greed, and power. In the beginning of this story
numerous cases of chronic illness and a overwhelming number of cancer cases are brought to our
attention. There seems to be no direct cause or correlation between these cases,

Psalm 146
Psalm 146, according to many Old Testament scholars, is thought to have been written sometime
between Judah s return from exile in 538 B.C.... [and] the time of Ezra and Nehemiah in the
middle of the fifth century B.C. One reason that scholars think that Psalm 146 was composed at
a later date is because of its use of Aramaisms in verses four (i.e. estonotayw or their plans ) and
five (i.e. sibro or whose hope ), as well as its use of the late Hebrew word zoqep (i.e. lifts up ) in
verse eight. The biblical scholar John Kselman also points out that Psalm 146 is a collection of
partial quotations and [it has] echoes of other biblical poems... [, which clearly denotes an]
anthological style, [and] this technique... [is] considered an indication

Theoretical Modeling Of Resource Depletion
The original work in theoretical modeling of resource depletion was by Harold Hotelling (1931).
Hotelling provided a method for analyzing producer behavior when extracting a scarce, non
renewable resource. In this modeling framework, the owners of a resource choose the extraction
rate so as to maximize the present value of the profit. The main conclusion of Hotelling s rule, in
its straightforward form, is that the resource price rise over time at the rate of interest. Indeed, if
the resource price increased faster than the interest rate, producers would choose to delay
extracting and selling the resource till its price had arose, since the resource owners could make
more profit by delaying the sale. If the resource price were declining or going up slower than the
rate of interest, owners would decide to sell more of the resource early and invest their returns at
the going rate of interest.
The efficient point occurs when prices are rising at exactly the rate of interest, making resource
owners indifferent between extracting now or holding reserves for the future. The Hotelling model
depends on several assumptions. The price path can be adjusted with more extensions of the
original model. One common assumption is to allow the extraction cost to be different based on the
cumulative extraction of the resource or the quantity of the resource remained in the ground, to
reflect the fact that as the resource becomes more depleted, the resources that remain get more
costly to

How Does Walter Mitty Escape His Fantasies
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a short story by James Thurber, is a story of man who goes
through an ordinary life fantasizing about a secret life where everything is great for him. In his
fantasies Walter Mitty is everything he isn t in real life. Mitty uses these fantasies to forget the
things he dislikes about his reality. Walter s life isn t anything special and he goes into his
fantasies to escape from the fact that he is insecure/shy, he s being bossed around by his wife,
and he can t do simple tasks. The first reason why Walter Mitty escapes his fantasies is because
he is not confident, or able to stand up for himself in real world. For example in the text Mrs.
Mitty asks Walter, Why don t you wear your gloves? (232) and he puts them on. As soon as she
leaves, though, he takes them off. This demonstrates that Walter... Show more content on

with everyday tasks. He also talks to the parking attendant in a low, nervous voice. Walter isn t
calm person in real life. Walter Mitty makes up for these mistakes in his another fantasy by
becoming a famous surgeon. He imagines saving the life of a millionaire, and president friend.
Thurber writes how the other doctors in Mitty s fantasy tell him, No one in the East knows how
to fix it (233). Mitty responds in calm voice and takes over. This shows how in his fantasies
Walter Mitty is calm since being a surgeon requires complete concertation and calmness. He is also
able to take on difficult tasks in his fantasy unlike reality. Mitty fantasizes to fight the reality of him

The Government Should Limit Advertising Aimed At Children
The Government Should Limit Advertising Aimed at Children
The government should exercise more control and limits on advertising that is aimed at children.
Children are the leaders of the future and the children watch on average two or more hours of
television a day. These are children s most formative years. When children form ideas that prove to
be substance of how they will think as adults.
There are several reasons why advertising aimed at young children should be banned. Advertisers
and marketers influence young children. Children are the future leaders of our world. Television
encourages them to become consumers and equate ownership of things with self worth. Thus, at an
early age, children are influenced to associate status and self worth with materialistic things. We are
producing young consumers rather that productive citizens who will add value to society. While
the government states its purpose for protecting children, in general terms, children are simply
influenced and cannot tell advertising agenda from the truth.
There are some specific and real problems that advertising can cause upon children (William A.
Ramsey). Fast food restaurant advertising it s influencing our children to be obese. Childhood
obesity around the world is causing worries, especially detrimental as its effect carries on into
parenthood. The ratio of children s who are overweight has approximately tripled in the same
period, reaching fourteen percent (Center for disease control

moving and inspirational tale.
Esperanza lived in the ghetto while in sharp contrast Sam grew up moving from motel to motel.
While Esperanza faced the many problems that girls face, Sam was busy facing abuse from his

The Legacy Of John Ireland
Unlike presidents, state governors tend to fade in the memories of citizens. Overtime, despite many
accomplishments and two terms, John Ireland has joined the long lost list of forgotten governors.
The mention of his name fails to incite anything but blank expressions from Texas citizens. In light
of his influence on one of Texasmost famed buildings, it might seem as though his name might
ring a couple of bells, but no such luck. Clearly, John Ireland has been forgotten for too long.
What did this man do for Texas and why should he be remembered? Time to find out. Although
Ireland lived in Texas for the majority of his life, he was born in Millerstown, Kentucky in
January of 1827 (Elliot). His lifetime law career began at the young age of eighteen when he
took on a deputy sheriff position in his home county (Who was John Ireland?). Even in the face
of limited educational opportunities (his parents were Irish immigrants), Ireland succeeded in
becoming a lawyer in 1852 (Johnson 42). Only a year after this triumph, John moved to Seguin,
Texas and began a prosperous law career (Johnson 43). Following the proper order of things,
Ireland married Matilda Wicks Faircloth in 1854, but she would die two years later (Elliot).
However, John Ireland does not seem to be the kind of man anyone could keep down for long, as
he married again in 1857 (Elliot). With his new wife, Anna Maria Penn, Ireland had three daughters
(Elliot). Although he was starting a family, John continued

Peace Unreachable In Israel And Palestine
Peace Unreachable in Israel and Palestine
Peace in Israel and Palestine has been unreachable for a long time. They have been fighting since
the end of World War 1 when the British promise both these countries the same land. And still to
this day the two countries are fighting. These two countries haven t made peace in over 103 years
so I doubt they will anytime soon.
The war between Israel and Palestine started when the British promise both of them the same land.
This promise has caused many wars between Israel and Palestine making it almost impossible for
them to make peace again. This promise made by the British was called The Balfour Declaration,
made in November 1917 by the British Government. (If Americans Knew.) The Balfour Declaration

These wars have been going on since the British made the promise to the two groups. Although
some of these war are major wars for example, the six day war which was a war that lasted six days.
In this war Israel won and gained control over the West Banks, the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula,
and the Golan Heights. By 1967 Israel controlled all of Palestine. (Crash Course, John Green) By
the late 1980s Palestine Launched its first intifada. This began with boycotts of Israeli products
and services and refusing to pay Israeli taxes. These boycotts also caused the the first suicide
bombing against Israel in 1993. (Course Hero s) Another example of a major war that made it
hard for the two countries to make peace again happened on March 11, 1978. Nearly a dozen
armed Palestinian terrorists landed their boats near a major coastal road in Israel. There they
hijacked a bus and sprayed gunfire inside and at passing vehicles, killing thirty seven civilians.
All of these wars have made it hard for the two countries to make peace, even mosts of the
Palestinians don t believe there will be peace any time soon. This can be proven by a quote found
on wikipedia.org The expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank has led the majority of
Palestinians to believe that Israel is not committed to reaching an agreement, but rather to a pursuit

Alexis De Tocqueville Summary
Alexis de Tocqueville was a French sociologist and a political theorist. He grew up in France,
however, traveled to America to study the prison system and returned to France with a broader
knowledge and observation from the United States. He condensed his finding in a book called
Democracy in America, which he published in 1835. In the book, he showed how he admired the
individualism and the stability of the economy, yet questioned its embrace of slavery and treatment
of Native Americans. Chapter 13, in Alexis de Tocqueville
, He compares Europe s government to
the United States. He talks about how it is hard to make the comparison due to Europe having
democracy and aristocracy. Having both of these forms of government makes it difficult to isolate
the democracy in Europe. However, in the United States democracy is the only form, making it
easy to see how it works and the effects it has. Tocqueville is trying to make the comparison due to
France being driven blindly to democracy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He speaks about how the talented people are not always in office. He questions the people s
decision in who they elect concluding that Americans just do not do their research on the people
running. However, he says when danger threatens the state, citizens usually elect someone fit to
lead us out of the problem. Tocqueville shows how elections can be problems. Having elections
too frequently causes you to have an unstable government due to constant change. He also goes
on to quote Alexander Hamilton in saying how making laws in an excessive manor can become
a problem. Tocqueville admires many parts of democracy in government. He admires how the
citizens keep the people in office humbled and also the office is what is respected more than the
people filling it. He talks about how after one term in office is complete that the ways of the last
person in office is not passed on to the person filling the

All the costumes were normal attire people wear everyday. Richard wore a maroon collared

first walked onto stage I thought he was a businessman because he was clean cut, dressed
professionally, and carried a briefcase. Richard s hair color was light grey which means he was
an older gentleman like Anne said in the play. The next costume I thought was interesting was
the superintendent outfit because it looked like a janitor uniform. When the superintendent
made her first appearance she was eating a cookie and taking the garbage can out of the room.
Therefore, I initially thought she was just a janitor. Later in the performance the audience found
out she was the superintendent in charge of the apartments in the building and also did a lot of
repairs. The third costume was Paul s plaid shirts that stood out to the audience. This costume
tells the audience about the time the performance is taking place. In today s world people tend
not to wear buttoned up plaid shirts because they are out of style. However, back in the 70s plaid
shirts were in style and all the men wore them as causal attire. The last costume I thought was

  • 2. Impose An Income Tax On Americans Occurred During The War... The first proposal to impose an income tax on Americans occurred during the War of 1812. After two years of war, the federal government had accumulated a whopping $100 million of debt. To fund the war against Britain, the government doubled the rates of its major source of revenue, customs duties on imports, which obstructed trade and ended up yielding less revenue than the previous lower rates. At the height of the war, excise taxes were imposed on goods and commodities, housing, slaves and land were taxed. Finally when the war ended in 1816, these taxes were abolished. A high tariff was then passed to retire the accumulated war debt. Thankfully, the notion of an incometaxwas conquered (Young, 2004). However, the thought of the income tax reappeared as an idea to fund the Union armies in the war to prevent the secession of the Confederacy. The war was expensive, costing on average $1,750,000 a day. Struggling to meet these expenses, the Republican Congress borrowed heavily, doubled tariff rates, sold off public lands, imposed a maze of licensing fees, increased old excise tax rates and created new excise taxes. But none of this was enough to fund the debt (Young, 2004).. In July 1861, the Congress passed a 3% tax on all personal net income above $600 a year that is equitant to about $10,000 today. However, no revenue was ever raised because a second tax passed before the first was due on June 30, 1862. The war s demand on resources made the earlier tax ineffective, and ... There is necessity of aligning three critical levers to build a successful CRM: insight into customer decision making, information about customers, and information processing capability. • 5. The Film Of All Time During the summer of 2008, one of the greatest animated films of all time was released by Pixar Animation Studios. This movie, WALLВ·E, was an instant classic in my mind, both the first time I saw it, and to this day. The most shattering part of the film was its depiction of both our future as humans, as well as that of our planet. Earth has become a wasteland filled with discarded trash. Garbage has piled up in landfills, until the entire surface has become one endless ocean of waste. There is no water to be found, no vegetation, and no life of any kind, except for one desolate cockroach. The only other habitant is a small, box shaped robot, the title character, programmed to clean up Earth; however, we can plainly see that this will be an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a plausible future for our world. Certainly not this year, maybe not in fifty years, but at some point, our arrogant use of hazardous materials without regard for the well being of the Earth. And I m not talking about industrial pesticides or obscure beauty products, but rather everyday plastic. The type seen in the dozens of food wrappers you threw out just today. A safer, more environmentally friendly alternative is critical to the future of our planet; and there is hope, in the form of bioplastics, specifically shrilk, that is more eco friendly product and has countless potential applications. Currently, plastics are an enormous environmental concern, and their negative impacts on our world are becoming more evident over time. Chemicals from plastics are now being found throughout our environment, in the air, in dust, and even in the food we eat (Knoblauch, 2009). Such chemicals can be extremely harmful and should not be ingested or consumed by humans. One such substance, bisphenol A, known as BPA, is found in the plastic of water bottles and pop cans, even reusable ones (Knoblauch, 2009). This has led to 93% of people currently having traces of BPA in their bodies (Knoblauch, 2009). However, the harmful effects of plastics are not limited only to humans; many other living organisms suffer from the use of plastics. In particular, marine animals are affected, as ... Rhetorical Analysis Of Fdr s Pearl Harbor Address Olivia Blanda Professor Seo young Park English 102 16 February 2018 Rhetorical Strategies in FDR s Pearl Harbor Address December 7th, 1941 a date which will live in infamy are the famous words Franklin Delano Roosevelt used to describe one of the most damaging surprise attacks placed on the United States. On this day of heartbreak, Japanese planes attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, killing over two thousand people and leaving Americans terrified and confused. The day after Japan attacked the U.S, Franklin Delano Roosevelt delivered a speech to the nation, now known as FDR s Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation. He states that The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. This proving that the United States had not done anything to provoke this attack. Because the U.S. have done nothing to deserve this attack, FDR believes it is only logical to fight back. FDR wants the people of the United States to know that they do not deserve to be walked on, which is why it is logical to fight back. After FDR told the audience that we did nothing to provoke this attack, he then let the audience know that Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya. Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong... Guam... Philippine Islands... Wake Island. And this morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island. The fact that Japan attacked seven different places in such a short amount of time, means that they are capable of attacking anyone at any time. FDR s intention in announcing Japan s multiple attacks, was to have the audience think logically of how much danger they will be in if they do not act soon. • 7. Lyndon Baines Overcome Rhetorical Analysis The Civil Rights Movement of 1954 1968 is a time of struggle and efforts for African American equality and can be categorized as a peaceful movement of restless seekers of justice. But after the Selma to Montgomery March in Alabama in 1965, where many ended injured and one ended up killed, President Lyndon B. Johnsonsaw this as his executive duty to show the nation that this was an American problem that we all needed to fix. On March 15, 1965, a week after Selma, Johnson gave We Shall Overcome, a speech whose purpose was to motivate civil rights to African Americans and make it into a civil cause, as well as gain support for a bill that rightly legally aids to this solution of discrimination. In addition, he uses diacope in Lines 22 ( There is no Negro problem. There is no Southern problem. There is no Northern problem. ) where there is no ... problem is repeated. This only emphasizes his next line, which reads There is only an American problem , which shows that there is no placing blame for the wrongdoings of this nation. With this, he means to emphasize that we have all been a part of this problem, and we shall all be part of the solution. Lastly, Johnson also uses epistrophe in Lines 190 191 ( All Americans must have the privileges of citizenship regardless of race. And they are going to have those privileges of citizenship regardless of race ), where the phrase regardless of race is repeated. Using epistrophe has the same effect as if the speaker repeats the same phrase for the people in the back . In other words, the use of epistrophe emphasizes Johnson s point that race does not matter in citizenship issues. Likewise, Lyndon B. Johnson uses diction to make his speech s purpose more impactful and echo across the country. For example, Johnson avoids using the term U.S citizen and instead uses American, or Americans. The word America has more powerful connotations than using the term prior. Being a U.S citizen is of legal matters, whereas being an American refers to loving your country and being patriotic, and it has nationalistic connotations, and in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dorothea s father, Joseph Dix, was an unstable religious preacher and her mother, Mary Bigelow, suffered from a mental illness and remained emotionally distant (Staff, History.com 2009). They are neoplasms that arise in the pancreatic ducts and can be visualized as they are usually greater than 0.5 inch in length. They are comprised of tall mucin producing columnar cells, that have the capability of transforming into pancreatic cancer if left untreated. Their ability to develop into pancreatic cancer is one of the main reasons behind their significance. IPMNs commonly exhibit cell atypia, papillary propagation, and cyst production. Their main feature is the ability to produce copious amounts of fluid. In general pancreatic cysts are not an uncommon finding on abdominal computerized tomography (CT) scans. Potato Latkas Research Paper The Jewish community is distinguished by a rich history, rooted in traditions that have been in place for thousands of years, many customs, and possibly the most are dietary in nature. Foods like potato latkas1, falafel2, and fried doughnuts are traditionally eaten during my favorite festival, Chanukah3, a Jewish festival that commemorates the miracle of the anointing oil that burned for eight days during the rededication process of the Temple in Jerusalem.4 Although Hanukkah5 is an eight day festival, the best night is the last when my family has the nonpareil dinner. A great effort is made in order for this glorious dinner to occur. Potato latkas are creamy mash potatoes that are fried in sizzling oil resulting in the crispy goodness of a perfect potato pancake. I remember the first time we made them, they were disgusting! They were too salty and mushy, others burnt and others turned out black which was certainly not appealing to the tastebuds. The irony of the situation was that my dad is somewhat of a chef and he had never made anything unappetizing until that day and as a result of that farcical moment we have adjusted the recipe, but Hanukkah has never been the same. In spite of the fact that it was our first failed attempt, the memory allows me to remember that incident every Hanukkah hence making it a tradition in my household. Once we began making the potato latkas I realized that there is no Hanukkah without them. Born in to a poor family on June 8th 1784, Marie Antoine CarГЄme was named in honor of Marie Antoinette. He preferred to use the name Antonin because of his name sake s actions(Olguta). Being one of 15 kids he had to fend for himself at a very early age. Having been kicked out of his house, Antonin roamed the streets of Paris until a tavern keeper offered him lodging and work. That is how he got his first job in a kitchen. Within his 6 year stay at the tavern he went from being a pot washer to being a cook (Olguta). Another thing that CarГЄme modernized was the organization of sauces. He classified the different sauces in to different categories, BГ©chamel, Espagnole, Veloute, and Allemande (History of Sauces). • 34. Violence, Mental, And Mental Health Monique Nguyen Global Health Paula Palmer 3 December 2014 Violence and mental health in Brazil Today, mental disorders, violence and injuries are more prominent in low and middle income countries (Rebeiro, 2013). Violence stems from all age groups and genders, however, Brazil faces disproportionately high rates of violence. Violence is a major contributor to morbidity and individual and collective costs (Reichenheim, 2011). Unfortunately, nearly 90% of people living in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro faced at least one lifetime traumatic experience and if only investigating events constituted as direct exposure to violence (assaultive violence), 59.4% of residents in Sao Paulo and 63.4% in Rio de Janeiro reported a lifetime exposure (Ribeiro, 2013). Overall, crime is ignored in Brazil, especially interpersonal violence. The corruption in the government and police force in conjunction with weapons, drugs, and alcohol create a system vulnerable to violence (Reicheinheim, 2011). The relationship between population growth, which more than tripled from 52 million in 1950 to 170 million in 2000, directly relates to increasing rates of violence. Additionally, there is also a direct relationship with the rapid growth, and economic burdens associated with mental disorders (Ribeiro 2013, Becker, 2013). Yet, the Confucian centered examination system was beginning to prove ineffective in a world where modern militaries predominated in international relations. In fact, the late Qing Empire s encounter with Western civilization was necessarily heralded by guns, warships, and other new instruments of Western military might. The narrative of China s dynastic glory was replaced with a newer, less flattering image of China as the sick man of Asia (Holcombe 193). Fears of the encroaching imperial powers were only heightened after China lost in the 1865 60 Opium War, as were fears of increasing internal disorder, as evinced by the 1851 64 Taiping Rebellion (Bary 661; Rhoads 1 2). China would later suffer yet another humiliating defeat in the Sino Japanese War of 1894 5, but they first instituted a series of reforms in an attempt to curtail foreign dominance, particularly in the military sphere. China thus entered a period of so called self strengthening, a government led restoration that spanned the years between 1961 and 1895. This movement was largely a response to these early military defeats and the nation s perceived sense of inferiority (Rhoads 1 2; Holcombe 201). In a phrase, the goal of self strengthening projects and the larger Tongzhi Restoration (1862 74) was to emulate the Western countries and master their technical skills (Holcombe 201; Rhoads 9). • 38. The Social Differences Between Oral And Oral History Oral accounts are crucial to understanding historical events which may have not been recorded through text. The whole process in oral history is important to create the bigger image of the story and provide the meaning. The act of listening is just as complex as interpreting the story, both aspects give historya better understanding. The uniqueness of oral history can t compare to written history due to the compassion and emotions that are evoked while talking. There are social implications of oral history that come in various forms which effect the process. Although it is a complex process, it enhances historical practices for many reasons. The comparison between oral and written history has many discrepancies that impact the understanding of history in a great way. Oral history has the ability to evoke many emotions due to being able to see the body language of the speaker. Gestures create emphasis on various words which may have a significant meaning to the speaker. These gestures would not be seen through text thus it allows readers to experience the story through emotions as well as facts. The intensity of words also creates emphasis which is only available through speech. Francis Good uses an analogy to express the difference between text and oral accounts. Good states manuals and handbooks invariably provide advice on the issues, problems and strategies involved, but practice and comment show considerable divergence at times (Good, 362) which alludes to the conclusion that textual accounts can leave out some information. These aspects contribute to how the audience perceives the information given, importance will be given to items which can t be expressed through text. Oral history serves a social purpose in today s society. Oral accounts give the public a better understanding about social, political and economic issues which may not be written about. Oral history changes the precedent of how history is interpreted. It enhances the historical practices by emphasizing important aspects and revealing stories which may not have been heard otherwise. Oral history and interviews are particularly beneficial for minorities, including women and the illiterate, to express their stories. In Telling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tragedy And The Common Man According to Aristotle s theory of tragedy, tragedies are best equipped to be based on a protagonist that is renowned and prosperous, so his good fortune can be dramatically changed. In contrast, Arthur Miller s essay Tragedy and the Common Man states that the common man is as apt a subject for tragedy in its highest sense as kings ever were. He proves in his modern essay that the characteristics and emotions of the common man and the highly placed are entitled to be similar. Miller even identifies emotions of a average person and how they result in a better tragedy than those who are highly ranked. In his play Death of Salesman he demonstrates that the normal life of a sales man can still make for a great tragedy and that his protagonist, Willy Loman, is worthy of a tragedy. One of the central themes related to his essay and play is that the presence of fear in a common man s life is more prevalent and perhaps draws us closer the character. This will lead the businesses to having better quality and service and by having this the business itself becomes an overall better business. This benefits the society because they are receiving better goods and services and at a lower price. An example would be the fruits and vegetables sold at the market. Different stalls at the market may have different prices, so the consumer may have the option to buy the one with the lowest price or the one with the best quality. If the good is bought based on the lowest price then the other stalls will need to lower their price as well because if they don t then they might not sell their goods. • 46. Theoretical Modeling Of Resource Depletion The original work in theoretical modeling of resource depletion was by Harold Hotelling (1931). Hotelling provided a method for analyzing producer behavior when extracting a scarce, non renewable resource. In this modeling framework, the owners of a resource choose the extraction rate so as to maximize the present value of the profit. The main conclusion of Hotelling s rule, in its straightforward form, is that the resource price rise over time at the rate of interest. Indeed, if the resource price increased faster than the interest rate, producers would choose to delay extracting and selling the resource till its price had arose, since the resource owners could make more profit by delaying the sale. If the resource price were declining or going up slower than the rate of interest, owners would decide to sell more of the resource early and invest their returns at the going rate of interest. The efficient point occurs when prices are rising at exactly the rate of interest, making resource owners indifferent between extracting now or holding reserves for the future. The Hotelling model depends on several assumptions. The price path can be adjusted with more extensions of the original model. One common assumption is to allow the extraction cost to be different based on the cumulative extraction of the resource or the quantity of the resource remained in the ground, to reflect the fact that as the resource becomes more depleted, the resources that remain get more costly to ... • 53. Peace Unreachable In Israel And Palestine Peace Unreachable in Israel and Palestine Peace in Israel and Palestine has been unreachable for a long time. They have been fighting since the end of World War 1 when the British promise both these countries the same land. And still to this day the two countries are fighting. These two countries haven t made peace in over 103 years so I doubt they will anytime soon. The war between Israel and Palestine started when the British promise both of them the same land. This promise has caused many wars between Israel and Palestine making it almost impossible for them to make peace again. This promise made by the British was called The Balfour Declaration, made in November 1917 by the British Government. (If Americans Knew.) The Balfour Declaration ... In this war Israel won and gained control over the West Banks, the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, and the Golan Heights. By 1967 Israel controlled all of Palestine. (Crash Course, John Green) By the late 1980s Palestine Launched its first intifada. This began with boycotts of Israeli products and services and refusing to pay Israeli taxes. These boycotts also caused the the first suicide bombing against Israel in 1993. (Course Hero s) Another example of a major war that made it hard for the two countries to make peace again happened on March 11, 1978. Nearly a dozen armed Palestinian terrorists landed their boats near a major coastal road in Israel. There they hijacked a bus and sprayed gunfire inside and at passing vehicles, killing thirty seven civilians. All of these wars have made it hard for the two countries to make peace, even mosts of the Palestinians don t believe there will be peace any time soon. This can be proven by a quote found on wikipedia.org The expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank has led the majority of Palestinians to believe that Israel is not committed to reaching an agreement, but rather to a pursuit of ... • 54. Alexis De Tocqueville Summary Alexis de Tocqueville was a French sociologist and a political theorist. He grew up in France, however, traveled to America to study the prison system and returned to France with a broader knowledge and observation from the United States. He condensed his finding in a book called Democracy in America, which he published in 1835. In the book, he showed how he admired the individualism and the stability of the economy, yet questioned its embrace of slavery and treatment of Native Americans. Chapter 13, in Alexis de Tocqueville , He compares Europe s government to the United States. He talks about how it is hard to make the comparison due to Europe having democracy and aristocracy. Having both of these forms of government makes it difficult to isolate the democracy in Europe. However, in the United States democracy is the only form, making it easy to see how it works and the effects it has. Tocqueville is trying to make the comparison due to France being driven blindly to democracy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He speaks about how the talented people are not always in office. He questions the people s decision in who they elect concluding that Americans just do not do their research on the people running. However, he says when danger threatens the state, citizens usually elect someone fit to lead us out of the problem. Tocqueville shows how elections can be problems. Having elections too frequently causes you to have an unstable government due to constant change. He also goes on to quote Alexander Hamilton in saying how making laws in an excessive manor can become a problem. Tocqueville admires many parts of democracy in government. He admires how the citizens keep the people in office humbled and also the office is what is respected more than the people filling it. He talks about how after one term in office is complete that the ways of the last person in office is not passed on to the person filling the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All the costumes were normal attire people wear everyday. Richard wore a maroon collared shirt, with black dress pants, and had a briefcase that matched his collared shirt. When Richard first walked onto stage I thought he was a businessman because he was clean cut, dressed professionally, and carried a briefcase. Richard s hair color was light grey which means he was an older gentleman like Anne said in the play. The next costume I thought was interesting was the superintendent outfit because it looked like a janitor uniform. When the superintendent made her first appearance she was eating a cookie and taking the garbage can out of the room. Therefore, I initially thought she was just a janitor. Later in the performance the audience found out she was the superintendent in charge of the apartments in the building and also did a lot of repairs. The third costume was Paul s plaid shirts that stood out to the audience. This costume tells the audience about the time the performance is taking place. In today s world people tend not to wear buttoned up plaid shirts because they are out of style. However, back in the 70s plaid shirts were in style and all the men wore them as causal attire. The last costume I thought was interesting was Larry s, the expectant father, he wore a sweater vest and dress pants, his hair was comb to one side, and he wore glasses. This costume tells the audience that he comes from a wealthy yuppy family and is a smart person because he wears nerdy glasses and wears a sweater ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. African-Caribbean Concert Report Last week, I went to an African Caribbean Concert located in Lee Hall Auditorium at Florida A M University. There were so many great performances starting with little girls dancing to African music and ending with people dancing to the beat of drums. There was a total of ten performances at the concertand I liked that there was a variety of ways to showcase the talents. Instead of only dancing, there was poetry, and singing. Out of the ten performances, there were three that really had my attention throughout the whole performance.
