Personal Note On The View Of The Prince
How am I being perceived and how do I want to be perceived? This is a question I can be found
asking myself in most interactions I have with people. Nine times out of ten I settle for someone
s approval. Much of my life has been lived with a people pleasing mindset and only recently have I
become aware of it. Only recently have I begun to question whether or not it is always in my best
interest to pick love over fear. Two years ago, I was in a distinct position of leadershipover a group
of individuals. I had not undertaken much self examination at this point and unconsciously
chose to seek love. After reading The Prince, I want to reanalyze this scenario and attempt to
apply Machiavelli s perspective. The setting of this story is unlike any I will every find myself
in again. The summer began with me struggling to catch my breath as I stepped out of my car at
9,000 feet. Immediately after arriving, I starting training to become a white water rafting and
backpacking guide. Unfortunately, I did not have the luxury of stepping confidently into this job.
The previous ten months had been full of more rejection than I hope anyone else has to endure in
a lifetime. After a six week training period, we were expected to lead customers up mountains and
down class VI white water. Much to my chagrin, I was one of the first guides to receive a
backpacking trip. The group traveled from Alabama and seemed nice enough. However, after
shrugging off a barrage of trivial questions I didn t

American Romanticism Controversy
The first thing we must look at is characteristics of American Romanticism typical in the story
and in the protagonist. Initially, the issue of this story is that a minister, Father Hooper, that one
day comes to a sermon with a black veil covering his face. The outcome of this was a whole
controversy in the little town, though does not show signs of discomfort. The characteristics
focused on in this parable are from the view of adulthood as corruption and betrayal, (source 3)
to an individual separate from the masses, (source 3), and feelings, emotions, and imagination
take priority over logic and facts.(source 3) The view of adulthood can be seen on page 3 when he
gives the psalm with the black veil on, Did he seek to hide from the dread

The Number Four Components Of Successful Relationships
What is a relationship? A relationship is a way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people
are connected, or the state of being connected. Relationships are apart of our everyday lives. There
are professional relationships, intimate relationships, family relationships, etc. Overtime some
relationships grow stronger and some fall apart. In order to maintain or create a strong relationship,
you need communication, commonalities, respect, and trust.
While all four components of successful relationships are important, the number one key to a strong
relationship is communication. In a relationship you it s important to discuss your wants, needs,
feelings, etc. They are very important because if you hold everything in, the other person

THE INNOCENT MAN: MURDER AND INJUSTICE IN A SMALL TOWN, by John Grisham.

This result required analysis from another technician, who ultimately concluded that some of the
samples were consistent with Fritz hair. It took this expert over two years to do his analysis, and
he did so with the knowledge that when he was analyzing Fritz hair, Fritz was a suspect in the
case. (Other hair samples that he analyzed were not marked as having come from a suspect).
[*604] The prosecution s case may have been strengthened when it was able to prove during cross
examination of Dennis Fritz that he had lied to the school system when he indicated on his job

marijuana. (When the police had discovered this fact during its investigation, they called the junior
high school where Fritz was working and told them that he was under investigation for murder and
had lied about his marijuana growing conviction. The school system fired him immediately). The
prosecution also established that Fritz had lied about the marijuana growing conviction on an
application for a gun permit. Although this testimony may have strengthened the prosecution s

Compare And Contrast Christina s World By Andrew Wyeth
In Christina s World, a painting made in 1948 by Andrew Wyeth, I see a woman sitting on a
grassy field. The woman in the foreground is looking out towards the background to a brown
house. In front of the house, there is a shed and what appears to be a wire fence. There are two
narrow tire tracks leading to the house. Further off in the distance, there is another house.
The majority of the painting is the previously mentioned grassy field. The sky is free of clouds.
The woman sitting on the grass is wearing a dress and her hair is tied in a bun, a few strands
blowing off in what can be assumed is a light breeze.
Christina s World is a two dimensional representational painting on canvas. The artist uses the
elements of color, space, motion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strokes that make up the grass all have a slight sway that point towards the house, as well as
strands of the woman s hair. The slight breeze can mean something calling the artist back to where
they wish to be, a calmer place with a simpler life.
I believe this because this is the mood that looking at Christina s World puts me in. The simpler
life that the artist might be wishing for might not be a literal countryside, but simply the idea of
something simple. The idea of wanting a less complicated or more relaxed way of life can be
what the farm and grassy fields are portraying. To me, someone who has always been in the busy
urban areas, only having visited suburban and country areas, this painting makes me feel
something in the sense of longing. I ve never seen myself as a person fitting in with the hustle
and bustle of urban life. After staying in a more suburban to country ish style of living for a
month, I feel that s where I really want to be. The motion of the woman crawling to the little
house on the prairie in the middle of nowhere gives me a feeling a longing from the artist to be
somewhere where all that hustle and bustle of urban life can t reach

The Secret To Raising Smart Kids
The Way to Success
Thomas Edison once said, Many of life s failures are people who did not realize how close they
were to success when they gave up. When it comes to success and achievements, people often
believe that success is complicated and can not be reached easily. Many authors explain the
reality on how we can accomplish our goals and become successful. We recently read several
articles describing the keys that make us successful in our profession. The authors that discuss this
journey toward achievement are Carol S. Dweck in her article The Secret to Raising Smart Kids,
Geoffrey Colvin in his piece What It Takes to Be Great, Malcolm Gladwellin his novel chapter The

There are many factors that play a very important part in our lives. Consistent practice, a growth
mind set, and supportive mentors light up the road that leads us to success. If someone practice
for hours, but does not have a growth mind set or supportive mentors, then it is next to impossible
to accomplish his goal. And if another one has a growth mind set, but does not practice or has
someone to support him, then he can not make it to the end. Thus, all of these factors complete
each other to pave the road of success. Practicing for hours makes us better at doing that thing.
Having a growth mind set helps us improve ourselves. The supportive mentors give us the strength
to make it through the bad times. High achievers are not naturally gifted, but they had all the

Art of Love
The Art of Love
Framing for a Misogynist
The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the
contemporary social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social
activities, proper style, women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid s perspective, there are
three different ways to consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a
beautiful treasure, and as a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanuswrites
in a way that makes women seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly
devote his life to. Both men have a clear fascination with women and their relationship to men.
However, their distinct writing styles cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective
on women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a
negative viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says never a virgin there was
free from the lust of a hand , which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high
prize, one that is worth committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89 126). On the other end,
Capellanus views the trophy of virginity as futile and counters that while you know some other
man is enjoying the embraces of your beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the
more (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the argument against adultery, again opposing the views of
Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in detail by stating that a man in love is adorned with the
virtue of chastity, because he who shines with the light of one love can hardly think of embracing
another woman, even a beautiful one (1.4, 2).
Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his
tenderness, Ovid shares his heart, saying, do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses;
do not think it a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet (Art 2. 522 553) . This is simply an outstanding
statement, as it serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be
taken lightly

Why Tanning Should Be Banned
You may think they are just getting a nice looking tan when going to a tanning salon, but what they
actually are doing is putting their lives in danger. Around 1.6 million teenagers use tanning beds
each year; unfortunately, this could cause the development of the deadliest skin cancer. While
some people believe that they are getting a base tan, this really does not exist. Instead, their skin
will slowly age prematurely, acquire age spots and wrinkles, and in time may even develop cancer.
Indoor tanning should be banned for minors and regulated more thoroughly for adults. The first
thing that many people think is that they are going to get a base tan to help protect them from the
sunwhile engaging in outdoor activities such as going to the beach or sitting by the pool. What
they do not know is that a base tan protects their skin the same amount that spf 3 sunblock would.
According to the U.S. surgeon general, someone who gets pink after ten minutes of exposure to
sun, would only increase their time to 20 or 30 minutes. David Leffell, the chief of dermatologic

vitamin D is by having a good diet. There are many food options from dairy to oatmeal to orange
juice. Just eating a good breakfast can help in the quest to a balanced lifestyle. Also, if you eat a
six ounce salmon you can get half of the daily recommendation. There are so many options that
trying to justify using the tanning bed as a source with the known risks makes little

Marie Curie Accomplishments
No one would have expected that a young Polish girl from an impoverished family would have
made such great contributions and become one of the most influential scientists to ever live.
During the 1860 s, society did not expect poor young women to become more than a housewife, let
alone pursue a career in science. However, Marie Curiebroke through these stereotypes and in
doing so, inspired many women to follow in her footsteps. Many would believe that someone
who has gained so much recognition in the scientific community and achieved their lifetime goal
would have a positive outlook in life and a optimistic attitude. However, this was not the case for
Marie Curie, who battled severe depression from an early age. Although Marie Curie found herself
in some dark places, she worked even harder to overcome many societal and personal challenges.
Without Marie Curie s lifetime dedication to science, her discovery of radium and polonium, and
her scientific contributions to radiation, our world would not be the same.

BRP2 Summary
The Behavior Rating Profile, Second Edition is an instrument that s designed for student s
ranging from 6 to 18. The purpose of the BRP 2 is to help identify students with emotional,
behavioral, personal, or social adjustment problems in many settings. The BRP 2 assesses
behavior at home, in school, and in interpersonal relationships for individuals. According to
Kelley, Reitman, Noell (2003), The system is comprised of six elements, which can be used
independently, or in conjunction with each other to provide a more ecological view of the
individual s behavioral functioning (p. 132). There are three Student Rating Scales, a Parent
Rating Scale (home), a Teacher Rating Scale (school), and a Sociogram (peers). The Sociogram is
not really a scale, but provides a classroom based peer nomination procedure. The assessment
should be given to the teacher, the parents, and used to observe Jay during a peer interaction
This assessment was chosen, because each after reviewing the many components of this assessment
it gives information to help find interventions regarding Jay s behavior. For example, the Parent
Rating Scale will help discover underlining issues at home that might contribute to Jay s ongoing
behavior. One of the cons of this assessment is that Spanish version is available, however, it was
normed in Mexico and caution should be applied to interpreting these norms with Spanish speaking
students from the United States. Assistive technology does not play

Theories Of Attachment
Attachment is defined as an emotional bond that is formed between a child and an individual that
is developed throughout the child s development. As a human, it is common for us to form
emotional bonds with people we are close with especially to our parents. Most of the studies
conducted on the attachment theory mainly focuses on the attachment between infants and their
parents, although attachments between adults can also occur. Attachment behaviour is not only
observed in humans but also in animals, which is also referred to as imprinting by biologists. This
essay will examine the attachment theory, explore Ainsworth strange situation experiments and
discuss how infant attachment styles affect later development. Early studies on attachment were
conducted on animals and one of the earliest ones was carried out by Konrad Lorenz. His studies
eventually led to the discovery of imprinting, which is defined as the behaviour that takes place

Learning theory of attachment proposes that infants form attachments based on the provision of
food. In other words, an infant will form attachments to whoever who feeds it. This theory also
involves the processes of classical and operant conditioning because infants form attachments by
learning that some people provide comforts and responses. The more widely accepted evolutionary
theory of attachment states that humans and biologically set to form attachments with others to
ensure survival. The theory also claims that it is care and responsiveness which forms attachment
instead of food. To explain, the greater the response towards an infant s signal, such as crying,
smiling and clinging, the more likely it is to form an attachment with the infant. With complex

Persuasive Essay On Guns In Schools
Since 2013, there have been 306 school shootings in America. That is an average of one
shooting per week. The mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, located in
Parkland, FL was committed by nineteen year old, Nikolas Cruz. He was armed with an AR 15
and open fired in the school, killing seventeen people and wounding several others. This is the
deadliest school shooting since the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown,
Connecticut. It s extremely unfortunate to know that children are also victims of America s gun
violence crisis, even while attending school. It is even more unfortunate and frustrating to know
that the National Rifle Association (NRA) use school shootings like Parkland to encourage
policies that allow guns in schools. According to Everytownresearch, there is no evidence to
validate the increased safety of arming teachers in schools. As a future early childhood educator, I
am against bringing guns into my school and classroom. I hope this is not the change we take as a

It s logical to employ more officers in schools, but it s illogical to arm teachers with guns.
According to the Harvard Injury Control Research Center, areas with more guns also result in more
gun deaths. In an active shooter emergency, professional police officers hit their intended targets
less than twenty percent of the time. Armed teachers will certainly have an even lower chance of
hitting the active shooter in an emergency. The people that are adamant about guns in schools need
to understand that the only arming a school needs is to be armed with more officers, social

Tom And Tim Personality Traits
Tom and Tim display traits that can be found in the Big Five traits of humans. Tom scored high
on traits like timid, tense, fearful, and excitable. These traits fall into the cat dimension of
emotional reactivity and within the Big Five traits for human, it falls under neuroticism (Gosling
John, 1999). As for Tim, he scored high in traits like playful, curious, active, and energetic. These
traits fall into the cat dimension of energy and within the Big Five traits, it falls under
extraversion (Gosling John, 1999). Since both cats fall into two different and specific categories I

The difference in their personality is not due to their day to day lives since we adopted them.
They were born in different situations and I think that has molded their personalities today. Tom
s mother was a stray and had her kittens in a backyard. The kittens were found and I adopted
Tom with his brother. I was told Tom got hurt as a kitten a lot. He burned his nose on the stove,
fell from shelves, and was dominated by his brother. I think this is why he is more skittish and
exhibits the traits like timid, fearful, and excitable. He has experienced the consequences of
being curious and adventurous and is now very wary of a lot of things. Tim, on the other hand,
was born in a home and taken care of by an elderly lady who was always with him. We adopted
him from the elderly lady. Tim has formed a strong attachment to my mother and follows her
around. He has always been taken care of and has stayed within a confined, safe environment. I
think his security in my mother and not getting hurt as much as a kitten like Tom is why he
feels he can venture out more. Something else to take into account is that Tom has a lot of
health problems. We have been told he is in pain sometimes and tires more easily because he is
overweight. This can also contribute to his actions. Perhaps Tom would be more like Tim if it
were not for his health problems. Vice versa, Tim might be more like Tom if he had Tom s health
problems. My cats upbringing up until my family and I adopted them and their specific physical
situations play a big role in their respective

intruder took advantage of this is to gain super user privileges and created several user accounts
by gaining root privileges. All it takes is a one time access as super user to establish his base
into the defenders zone. This book describes how the intruder took advantage of brute force
method to hack user accounts and password. Also, the intruder was smart enough to steal the
password information file and even managed to encrypt all the dictionary words by using the
same encryption algorithm and then compared those words with the stolen encrypted passwords

Professional Public Health Associations. Essay
Professional Public Health Associations
Patti Maisner

Public Health Professional Associations
There are several Public Health Professional Associations/Organizations that can be accessed
whether a student or MPH (Masters in Public Health) graduate. The number one organization is
APHA (American Public Health Association) who has services like: membership, newsletters, a
professional journal, meetings, and webinars (American Public Health Association, 2015). I cannot
afford to join now, but will upon graduation, utilizing as much as possible on the site. They also
have internships and fellowships, but they all take place in Washington D.C. Nevertheless,
students and graduates can take advantage of the job search and sign up for job alerts. I will also
follow them on social media and LinkedIn.
The next association that I would like to be a member of is: SOPHE (Society for Public Health
Education). Students as well as graduates can join and they have multiple chapters around the
United States and participate on social media. I plan on attending meetings that are local, as well
as digital webinars, summits, and signing up for their newsletter and other professional
publications (Society for Public Health Education, 2015). They, too, have a career center that I will
access on a regular basis until I have secured a position as a health practitioner. Although, I have
little experience but one class in the environmental health area, I

Nancy Wexler Case Study
Nancy Wexler was clearly motivated to accomplish her goals of finding a treatment/cure by the
factors of personal tragedy such as when her family members were being affected by the disease
and also by the advances of DNA technology such as when she discovered the gene responsible
for the disease, courtesy of this. We know that Mendelian s law of inheritance had been accepted
into the scientific approach of discovering a knowledge base such. For instance, this enabled
scientists to discover some facts of HD such as that it affects parts of the brain. Because of this
knowledge, people such as Americo Negrette can investigate this fact even further by discovering
neurological (brain) diseases that helped Dr. Wexler find the genetic cause of HD disease in the
end. It is important to note that a vague scientific fact can contribute to a specific issue, which
may eventually lead to some incredible discovery. This was the case that Dr. Wexler followed in
order for her to accomplish her goals.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in the case of HD, genetic technology allowed scientists to conduct research on the
gene of the disease through the use of living organisms such as mice. This can also be useful for
other things such as medical areas because scientists can also use mice for testing new drugs and
antibiotics, perhaps to find an effective drug that is capable of treating patients who suffer from
Huntington s Disease. Genetics can also promote other technologies regarding Huntington s
Disease such as PET scans which produces nuclear images for areas around the body. This can be
applied to monitoring the progression of the disease in the brain (since that is what it affects). This
advance also contributes to stem cell research where scientists can use affected human stem cells

Jay Gatsby Influences
The Great Gatsby is generally regarded as a story of love and tragedy, but in actuality, it was a
story of a sad man chasing a baseless obsession with a woman and in trying to obtain this
relationship, succumbing to immoral practices and ultimately dying alone. The author of The
Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a widely acclaimed author who had a life of tragedy and loss
that greatly impacted his writing. He was able to see not only the light hearted, celebratory, and
successful side of the American Dream, but also the negative effects of overindulging with alcohol
and incessant partying. He was able to indirectly write about himself and his losses in the stories he
wrote. Unfortunately, he was not able to see how successful he had become.... Show more content

All of his decisions are based on his need to feel superior and his interminable chase after the idea
of Daisy that he has created. Part of the genius of the novel that Fitzgerald included was the two
dimensionality of the characters. Almost all of the characters lacked a human aspect of their
characterization. Fitzgerald wrote them this way on purpose. He wrote the characters of The Great
Gatsby the way that he saw people around him in his everyday life: shallow and vapid. Instead of
filling the novel with well rounded characters, he filled it with characters who at best made
questionable decisions, even with good intentions in mind. His decision in doing this is extremely
important to the themes portrayed in the novel. The Great Gatsby brought a lot of the social issues
that were going on in the 20 s into the light, and in a brilliant way. Writing Jay Gatsbyas a static
character was an integral part of the themes that Fitzgerald hoped to depict with the The Great
Gatsby, and an extremely effective way to expose the general public of the 20s for whom
Fitzgerald truly saw

Brady Tragic Hero
Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee s drama Inherit the Wind depicts the story of the Scopes
Monkey Trial. It takes place in a small religious community where talking about evolution is
against the law. A schoolteacher within the town had been caught teaching Darwinism to his
science class, which drew attention from people all over the country. A famous lawyer named
Henry Drummond arrived to defend him, while a man named Matthew Harrison Brady, a well
liked religious figure, visited to prosecute him. It could be argued that Brady possessed the traits
of a tragic hero, which is a flawed character that suffers for his beliefs. Brady s choices and ways

His death was a result of his choice. He chose to not take proper care of himself, especially in the
extreme heat. As an illustration, when the buffet was brought out when the Bradys arrived, he
piles mountains of food on his plate. Even though his wife had warned him to be careful in the
heat and eating, he takes a large amount of food from the table. It had to have been a repeated
behavior, since Mrs. Brady mentioned the doctor warning Brady about overheating. He let his
appetite control him, and ignored the risks of eating so much outside in the heat. Furthermore,
Brady didn t stop to calm down after getting worked up over the lack of attention from observers.
To illustrate, as Brady s face began turning red, he freezes. His lips move, but nothing comes out.
Paradoxically, his silence brings silence. Brady was too focused on the crowd that he neglected
himself. He continued attempting to gain their attention until he was physically unable to speak.
He neglected his health throughout enough to the point where he couldn t handle what he was

Les Demoiselles D Avignon Andre Salmon Analysis
I will be focusing on two of the readings; the Andre Salmon essay an Anecdotal History of
Cubism written during Picasso s time in 1912, and the David Lomas article In Another Frame: Les
Demoiselles D Avignon and Physical Anthropology. The Salmon essay, as the title suggests,
focuses on the Cubist movement as it was understood during his time, making sure to delineate
Picassos early work as Picassisme. Salmon recognises the novel aspect of Cubism as a way in
which to depict an object holistically through geometric forms and painting beings and things such
as they are and not as our eye recognizes them... . He describes the disjointed history of the
movement and its artists, quoting Metzinger saying Cubism is a means, not and end. Salmon

The Lomas article takes a more specific approach by looking at Picassos Les Demoiselles D
Avignon and how the form of the prostitutes could have been shaped by the dominant physical
anthropological doctrine of the day. Lomas also studies Demoiselles as Picasso s challenge and
in many ways, celebration, of the widespread belief about the degeneration of Western civilized
society. Lomas provides a background on the common anthropological beliefs of the day with a
focus on anthropometry, which gave scientific backing to the racial, cultural and sexual hierarchy;
a hierarchy that Picasso rebels against through the usage of primitive sources and morally
degenerate subject matter. The degeneracy of the prostitute s profession associated them with races
at the bottom of the established hierarchy. As a result of this association, Picasso depicts the
prostitutes with the anthropometrically assumed masculine body type of non western, and more
specifically, African and Oceanic people. Lomas provides examples of the preparatory sketches for
Demoiselles allowing the reader to see Picasso research and develop the prostitute s body

Traditional Marital Customs Still Play Essay
Introduction
Family has long been treated as the basic unit in Chinese society. Traditional marital customs still
play a pivotal role in people s common life, especially in their own marriage practices. The
majority of Chinese people follow the basic ancient marital principle: a man or woman should get
married upon coming of age. In contemporary Chinese society, when young people coming to the
age of marriage, parents, realities and other significant others usually push them to take their
heterosexual boyfriend or girlfriend back home (Lee, 2013). Their pressure has been exacerbated
becasue most of the family have only one kid due to the Chinese one child policy. Parents almost
focus all their attention on the success of career and marriage of their only child. British
Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) news had reported that in order to release the pressure from
families, some single young people are resorting to renting fake boyfriends or girlfriends and come
back to their home to appease their parents and significant others on some important holidays
(Hatton, 2013). Obviously, the homosexual individuals suffered more pressures from family and
society. Traditional cultural values exert much influence upon young people s mentality and make
them struggle between their sexual identities and expectations from the outside environment. In
particular, parental attitudes toward marriage and participants endorsements of filial piety values

Descriptive Narrative Story
In hindsight, I realize I was not ready for a job, maybe I was just too immature. That Thursday
night, in what felt like an empty cold room, I lay there crying, wishing for everything to be over.
It all started the day I turned 15, I was just a young man, who for some reason decided that it was
time to get a real job.
I woke up that hot summer day and decided that it was time I go out and apply for some jobs. I
chose to apply at my favorite restaurant, not knowing that it would be one of the worst ideas I
have ever had. I remember it took about three weeks for a response, those three weeks felt like
years waiting and waiting not hearing a thing, until finally I got the call. I remember walking in for
my interview all dressed up, with my hair looking shinier than the paint on my car, slicked back
like G Eazy.
As I walked in I was greeted by the store manager a middle aged woman with wildly frizzy hair,
her face resembling someone who just ran a 5K. Rushing me to a table she sat down quickly,
short of breath, she makes out the words Hi my name is Meeghan . Nervously, I greeted her
instantly Andrew, Andrew Sherman nice to meet you realizing how dumb that sounded I felt a

The Aspect Of Faux Furs In The Fashion Industry
The Aspect of Faux Furs in the Fashion Industry
Faux (f oh) Made in imitation; Fake
Faux furs in the fashion industry is the only moral substitute against real furs. Furs in the fashion
industry, is it moral? This has been an alarming question for quite some time. In response, the
creation of Faux furs has taken the industry by storm. For years, the bearing of fur in fashion was
associated with wealth, luxury, and glamour. With this perception of status, comes the perception of
faux furs. Associated with cheap, knock offs of furs; identified as a cheap imitation for the mass
markets. (Trew, 2012).
Faux furs have taken primary standpoint for use of fashion, and are a predominant political
statement in the industry. Designers are using faux fur in a proud statement against the fur
industry. Faux furs are being used as political protest statements, and have evolved into a
creature of their own from a life of being a tacky counterfeit. While faux fur has very recently
created a strong positive presence in fashion, it s debate has been dated back to the 19th century.
PETA s campaign of naked celebrities protested that they would rather go naked than wear fur ;
while David Bailey s Dumb Animals campaign for Greenpeace protested that It takes 40 dumb
animals to make a fur coat, but only one to wear them. These campaigns were some of the most
publicized and controversial and took place in a controversial time for the great fur debate, the
eighties and nineties. The protest

Essay on Racism and Interracial Marriage in Othello
Racism and Interracial Marriage in Othello
Othello: The Moor of Venice is probably Shakespeare s most controversial play. Throughout this
work, there is a clear theme of racism, a racism that has become commonplace in Venetian society
which rejects the marriage of Othello and Desdemona as anathema. The text expresses racism
throughout the play within the language transaction of the dialogue to question the societal ethos
established by Othello, thereby making him nothing less than a cultural other. Furthermore, the
character of Desdemona is displayed as mad, or out of her wits, for marrying such an other, and
the audience sees her slip from an angelic state of purity to that of a tainted character. Also, the

Why else would he address the senator Brabantio with something that was really none of his
business? If one believes that miscegenation is a taboo currently manifested within the play then
he/she will see how Iago was acting as a representative of society a synecdoche responsible for
pointing out that something has gone wrong with a hidden purpose or motive that was the locus
for his actions. Iago is the antithetical character of Shakespeare s creation. He is the catalyst of all
the destructive happenings within the play starting from the very beginning of the play when he
and Roderigo approach the residence of Brabantio, Desdemona s father, in Act 1 scene 1. He
uses racist language to appeal to the senator s traditional beliefs, including such phrases as Even
now, now, very now, an old black ram / Is tupping your white ewe (1.1.85 86). Iago even goes so
far as to hypothesize that Brabantio s grandchildren will be animals because of his daughter s base
marriage with an other.

you ll have coursers for cousins, and gennets for
germans. (1.1.108 111)
Iago plays out the importance of his role when he further states that he is the one, almost as if he
were appointed to such a position, who must inform Brabantio that his daughter and the Moor were
making the beast with two backs (1.1.112 113). But

Online Social Networking sites have been rapidly emerging over the past decade. They are
changing the way people interact, make and break friendships, gossip and communicate. This

networking could be defined in many ways depending on which book, article or journal you are

Life s most important social interactions no longer rely on face to face exchanges. Brown s
research tells us that the internet has drastically re shaped our individual social lives over the
distance of just a couple of decades, luring us into a virtual world where traditional interactions
such as living, loving, belonging and separating require new protocols (Brown, A, 2011 p 29).
For many in the future, the path followed when falling in love may be via an online website.
Dating sites, which we have once thought of as an uncool way to meet and connect with new
people, have grown in popularity. They may perhaps be seen to have taken on the role that was
once filled by family and friends. Facilitating and managing relationships online is projected to
become close to a billion dollar industry in the United States in 2011 , (Brown, A, 2011 p30).
Changes in online social relationships have increased rapidly, particularly over the past 30
years. Generational differences increase as the pace of social change increase , Shapiro said,
(Salman, J, 2009). Several different generations, for example the baby boomer generation,
generation Y and generation X, have embraced online social networking. As of 2009, 73% of
teenagers between the ages of 12 17 use online networking sites. This is an increase from 58% in
2007. Specifically, 82% of teenagers between the ages of 14 17 and 55% of youth between 12 13

point that the author made is that there is a lot of people in the world that are non informed
about what was going on in the world. He says that people tends to think that things are
becoming worst or didn t change which is not true. He said that there is a need to communicate
because the data of what happening in the world is well aware. He compares the life expectancy
and fertility rate of many countries since 1960. He found out that they is a lot of countries that
have improved in term of life expectancy. As example China and India has improved and are
moving toward better health care and small families like develop countries. He also compared
the income distribution in the world and found out that there wasn t a gap between rich and poor
anymore and that there were a lot of countries that were in the middle and had 24% of the
income. Looking at the graph, the actual distribution was mounded shaped while it used to be a
bump. He shows that it is dangerous to use average data because there is a lot of differences
between countries and that policy makers have to take that into consideration while designing the
laws for one region. He thinks that data should be used more often and that organization should be
will willing to release these information s and make it available to the rest of the world. 2)Read the

handling. Valka is a company in Iceland that develops and provides technology and equipment for
the fishing industry. Their equipment can cover the whole process of grading and batching,
trimming, cutting and portioning, and packaging the fish as well as use software to manage the
entire order and production process (Valka, 2017). Most of the country and its population is near

domestic side of packaging and handling, but the farther away the fish is shipped the more
advanced and complex the solutions need to be. The domestic channels are fairly simple due to the

The Deficit And Its Effect On The Next Decade
*As the day goes by almost never ending so to will the U.S. budget continually growing.
However, in the previous years the deficit has sharply declined from one year to the next.
Specifically, in 2014, the deficit in total, was 514 billion (2014). Yes, 514 billion dollars is
unbelievable, yet this number is surprisingly less than what the United States had previous to new
laws being implemented. Specifically, in 2009, the deficit was 1.4 trillion dollars (2014). This
trend is highly permissible, however is this decline something that we may expect to occur in the
next decade. Unfortunately, as the Congressional Budget Office states, Under current law, deficits
will drop through 2015 but rise thereafter, boosting the already high federal debt, CBO projects.
Economic growth will be solid in the near term, but unemployment will not drop below 6.0 percent
until 2017 (2014). With the aforementioned statement, what will the deficit impact in the next
decade? Feasibly one may conclude that when the deficit rises, so may other portions. Particularly,
the size of the economy will open endedly flourish, with this so will spending. Unnervingly,
spending will grow more rapidly than the GDP as the age of our population grows, so will their
contributions to the economy. These contributions as the CBO states are, the expansion of federal
subsidies for health insurance, rising health care costs per beneficiary, and mounting interest costs
of federal debt. By contrast, all federal

Summary Of Preface To God s Determinations By Edward Taylor
Numerous people have a theory about how the world was created. Some say it was evolution, and
others trust that it was the magnificent Lord that reigns above. In the poem, Preface to God s
Determinations, Edward Taylor exposes God s handiwork through his countless use of metaphors.
By comparing the immense land features to mediocre objects, he reveals the wonders Godhas
shaped. Taylor uses the word infinity to start the poem, this states that God is everlasting and has
been since the beginning of time. God created the world from nothing and shaped it to his liking.
He single handedly formed the world into what it is today.
The use of metaphors throughout the poem allows the audience to picture what God has made
with objects that we see today. This is evident when he states, Who in this Bowling Alley bowled
the Sun? Countless people have been bowling before, and Taylor compares the sun to a bowling
ball being hurled down the alley. With Rivers like green Ribbons Smaragdine? is another example
that Taylor uses. He compares the endless rivers to ribbons displaying an emerald green color.
Taylor also conveys his message through his precise description and tone. This poem transmits the

The use of rhyme and plain style allows the poem to flow and both make it easier for the audience
to interpret. There are a few occasions when he uses off rhyme. One instance is when he reveals
who created all the marvelous work. He says, Who? Who did this? Or who is He? Why, know It s
Only Might Almighty this did do. The words do and know do not rhyme, emphasizing the
importance of the lines. Taylor also uses an abundance of visual imagery throughout the poem. This
helps the audience comprehend the land features that he compares to everyday objects. When he
says, Who hung the twinkling Lanthorns in the Sky? he compares lanthorns to the stars that
shimmer through the shadowy black

Marijuana User Summary
In relation to the differences in experimental, recreational, and being addicted to an illicit drug, I
would have to agree with Howard Beckers Becoming a Marijuana User, which he wrote in 1953.
As for the action of those in the category of experimental drug users, I believe that those are the
ones who have been aroused by some external factors, such as friends and/or media influences, as
to the high feelings that are associated with the effects of drugs, for the first time. Becker put it in
a better sensible notion when his study revealed: the process of learning to use and learning to
associate its effects with a sense of pleasure (Humphrey Schmalleger, 2012). With recreational drug
usage, those are the people who have come to know

Gender Stereotyping Of Sports Media
Gender stereotyping in sports media is something we see everyday in magazines and on TV.
Since sports were invented, males have dominated one of Canada s largest pastimes. Reasons
for this being physicality and strength, but as time progressed women began to become more
involved in the culture of sport. Today there is almost an equal amount of women participating
in sports as man, yet women are still not being represented with the same approach as men.
About a month ago I found a video online that followed a sports reporter who was trying to make
a point about gender stereotyping within sports media. He would interview professional male
athletes but rather than ask them the typical interview questions we see in male sports, such as
has your workout routine changed since... but rather asked them questions that are typically
related to female athlete interviews such as one that was asked to swimmer Michael Phelps
Shaving your body hair gives you an edge in the pool, but how about your love life , or any
comments about reports about your girlish figure . At the end of the video they show real women
athletes being asked these types of questions in real interviews. The men s reactions of
embarrassment to disgust vs. the women s reactions of showing no surprise to being asked these
derogatory questions, says it all. It is no surprise that the sexualization of female athletes is
something all too common in sports media. We ll be looking into the idea of sexualisation in

What Motivates Employees Essay
How do you get things done in an organization? First, you must have managers who can delegate to
employees. Effective managers have the ability to get things done through other people. This is
accomplished by motivating employees to accomplish tasks. A manager must be able to delegate
these tasks to employees. The technique a manager uses to motivate employees to work for him,
will either motivate or dissatisfy employees. Motivated employees will work with the manager to
achieve company goals. Those employees who are dissatisfied will work against company goals.
It wasn t that long ago that employees were considered just another input into the production of
goods and services. (Linder 1998) Elton Mayo had a big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This style is involved with the charisma, ability to inspire motivation,..., and ability to relate to
others. (Davidhizar 1997, 17) The encouragement the manager offers must be genuine or else it is
perceived as a form of manipulation. Some employees see non genuine encouragement as
management being fake and trying to get one over on them. This will make the managers job much
more difficult. Encouragement doesn t cost the company anything and it s in all managers best
interest to practice it freely and regularly.
Transformational leadership is about empowerment, cooperation and shared responsibilities.
(Davidhizar 1997, 20) So managers must be comfortable with all forms of encouragement. Also,
when positive actions are encouraged those actions are more likely to be repeated. Many managers
only punish negative behavior never reinforcing positive behavior. When employees are constantly
punished they learn not to vary from what is safe. Managers that reprimand are usually the type of
managers that leave very little of an employees job to the imagination. This type of management
style leads to employees being unmotivated, because the job doesn t let them use their abilities.
Many managers believe that punishment will stop undesirable behavior, punishment doesn t
necessarily assure the behavior will not happen again. It will most likely lead to employees only
exhibiting behavior that attracts praise and reward and

Saving the Ballona Wetlands Essay
Before development exploded in California, the state contained about 5 million acres of wetland
habitat. Unfortunately, over the years California has been willing to part with 91 percent of its
wetlands, Southern California having lost 95 percent. Los Angeles County has only one wetland
remaining. This being the Ballona Wetlandslocated between Marina del Rey and the Westchester

There has been a settlement made between the Friends of Ballona Wetlands and Thomas
Maguire partners (now Playa Capital) to develop two thirds of the land with the DreamWorks
Playa Vista project. One third is to be saved and will undergo a restoration project headed by
Playa Capital. Playa Capital has agreed to provide for 297 acres of wetland and surrounding area,
in exchange for the right to develop the rest of the land. They have promised to manage and
maintain these 297 acres of land to function as a natural wetland. They have donated $12.5 million
for a restoration fund they say will not be used as mitigation by Playa Capital.
With all the restoration and funding being put into Ballona, there are still many environmental
groups that are adamantly opposed to the settlement and prefer to save all of Ballona s acreage.
These groups consist of the Ballona Ecosystem Education Project, the Sierra Club Ballona Task
Force, Ballona Valley Preservation League, Alliance for Survival, Ballona Wetlands Land Trust, LA
Green Party, LA Earth First, CALPIRG, Sea Shepherd Society, and the Wetlands Action Network.
They acknowledge that Playa Vista is not all wetland, but open space that needs to be saved from

detrimental harm to the wetland and surrounding community. If completed, the DreamWorks

Pros And Cons Of American History Essay
American history is a very important subject in our education, therefore, this vital topic shouldn t
be thought of as scary. By learning our country s history, we understand the society we live in,
the changes that occurred, and inspire us to do better. For better understanding of the subject
some teachers believe that students will benefit from thinking American history as a story , while
others look down on that idea. There are several pros and cons for the idea for thinking history as
a story . Some people look at history as a boring subject, but that s because they haven t thought of
it like a marvelous tale of action, drama, tragedy, and whole lot of chaos. By thinking of it that way,
it will make the subject much more interesting.

Baseball Is A Sport Of Baseball
There are only two seasons, winter and baseball (Veeck). For most people, baseball is a way of
life, not just a sport they play or watch. The history of baseball goes all the way back to the
1800s, and is a sport played in many countries around the world. Baseball is one of America s
most popular sports, and it would not be called America s Pastime if it wasn t. The rules of
baseball might be simple to grasp, but the game in itself is very difficult. Baseball has history
that cannot be forgotten and rivalries in the American and National Leagues that cannot be
ignored, these things fuel peoples burning desires within to play and watch this thrilling game.
What is Baseball? A game played on a large field by two teams of nine players who try to score
runs by hitting a small ball with a bat and then running to each of the four bases without being
put out (Merriam Webster). In baseball, you not only have someone hitting the ball, but you
also have someone who pitches the ball to the batter and someone who fields the ball after it is
hit. In order to get a batter or runner out, you have to tag them with the ball in your glove, catch
the ball in the air, strike out the batter, or touch the base with the ball in your glove. Each batter
gets four balls and three strikes which determines whether the batter walks or strikes out. These
are the basic rules of baseball that have been enforced by umpires for over a century. Have you ever
wondered what the origins of baseball are?

Distance Education Means Online Education
To most people in the 21st century, distance education means online education, the use of the
Internet to create a computer based learning connection between instructor and student
(Larreamendy Joerns Leinhardt, 2006). In today s increasingly technological world, nearly 70%
of top academic leaders agree that online learning is part of the academic world s future, and as of
2013, nearly 1/3 of higher educationstudents were enrolled in an online course (Kentnor, 2015).
Although distance educations rapid evolution began alongside the growth of technology in the late
1990s, the history of distance learning goes back much farther than modern technology.
First distance learning
The first educational occurrence that can be viewed as distance learning occurred in the 18th
century. Caleb Phillips took out an advertisement in the Boston Gazette that offered shorthand
lessons. Phillips s idea was to send lessons via the Postal Service, which some view not as actual
distance education because a lack of two way communication. Regardless, the basic principle of
distance learning was present (Kentnor, 2015). As cited in Kentnor (2015), according to Verduin
and Clark (1991), the first real distance educator was Issac Pitman, who taught shorthand by
correspondence via mailed postcards in 1840. Students mailed their work back to Pitman, thus
establishing the first true distance education. This method continued from the 19th to the early 20th
century, as desire for a college

purchased a building which was covered by restrictive racial covenant. The growing use of
racial covenants to maintain residential apartheid led the National Association for the

The issue is much broader than that of simply preventing discrimination against negroes, the
NAACP noted in 1930, for already such restrictive covenants have been used against Jews and
Catholics. Thurgood Marshall, NAACP special counsel, guided the attending lawyers toward a
coordinated legal campaign in courts around the country, designed to force the Supreme Court to
accept on or more cases for decision. William K. Koerner was appointed judge of the case.
George Vaughn argued against the covenant. He pointed out that there are five houses on the

At the end of this time, a brief, unfruitful experience at Brook Farm was followed by marriage to
Sophia in 1842: After a three year engagement, Hawthorne lost patience waiting to marry Sophia
until he had more money (20).
Between 1838 and 1845, Hawthorne published 22 stories in the Democratic Review, which paid
him between three and five dollars per page. Henry James in his biography Hawthorne from 1879
testifies in eloquent fashion to the state of Hawthorne s finances:
It strikes the observer of to day that Hawthorne showed great courage in entering a field in which
the honours and emoluments were so scanty
as the profits of authorship must have been at that time. . . Hawthorne
never, I believe, made large sums of money by his writings, and the early profits of these
charming sketches could not have been considerable; for many of them, indeed, as they appeared
in journals and magazines, he had never been paid at all. . . .(chap. 2)
Grandfather s Chair (1841), a children s book of New England history through the Revolutionary
War, sold a million copies, but Hawthorne received only a hundred dollars for the mansucript he
wrote. Again he needed to supplement his writing income. In 1846, President Polk signed
Hawthorne s appointment to the customhouse at Salem with a salary of $1200 a year (Swisher 21).

  • 2. Personal Note On The View Of The Prince How am I being perceived and how do I want to be perceived? This is a question I can be found asking myself in most interactions I have with people. Nine times out of ten I settle for someone s approval. Much of my life has been lived with a people pleasing mindset and only recently have I become aware of it. Only recently have I begun to question whether or not it is always in my best interest to pick love over fear. Two years ago, I was in a distinct position of leadershipover a group of individuals. I had not undertaken much self examination at this point and unconsciously chose to seek love. After reading The Prince, I want to reanalyze this scenario and attempt to apply Machiavelli s perspective. The setting of this story is unlike any I will every find myself in again. The summer began with me struggling to catch my breath as I stepped out of my car at 9,000 feet. Immediately after arriving, I starting training to become a white water rafting and backpacking guide. Unfortunately, I did not have the luxury of stepping confidently into this job. The previous ten months had been full of more rejection than I hope anyone else has to endure in a lifetime. After a six week training period, we were expected to lead customers up mountains and down class VI white water. Much to my chagrin, I was one of the first guides to receive a backpacking trip. The group traveled from Alabama and seemed nice enough. However, after shrugging off a barrage of trivial questions I didn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. American Romanticism Controversy The first thing we must look at is characteristics of American Romanticism typical in the story and in the protagonist. Initially, the issue of this story is that a minister, Father Hooper, that one day comes to a sermon with a black veil covering his face. The outcome of this was a whole controversy in the little town, though does not show signs of discomfort. The characteristics focused on in this parable are from the view of adulthood as corruption and betrayal, (source 3) to an individual separate from the masses, (source 3), and feelings, emotions, and imagination take priority over logic and facts.(source 3) The view of adulthood can be seen on page 3 when he gives the psalm with the black veil on, Did he seek to hide from the dread ... • 4. The Number Four Components Of Successful Relationships What is a relationship? A relationship is a way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected. Relationships are apart of our everyday lives. There are professional relationships, intimate relationships, family relationships, etc. Overtime some relationships grow stronger and some fall apart. In order to maintain or create a strong relationship, you need communication, commonalities, respect, and trust. While all four components of successful relationships are important, the number one key to a strong relationship is communication. In a relationship you it s important to discuss your wants, needs, feelings, etc. They are very important because if you hold everything in, the other person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Call, Department of Criminal Justice, Radford University. Email: jcall [at] RADFORD.EDU. John Grisham s legal novels are well known to avid readers of that literary genre. THE INNOCENT MAN is Grisham s first (and so far only) venture into non fiction. It tells the story of Ron Williamson, an Oklahoma boy with great promise as a professional baseball player. However, the demons of drink, drugs, and mental illness prevented Williamson from fulfilling that potential. Eventually, Williamson s demons also destroyed his marriage, prevented him from holding a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This result required analysis from another technician, who ultimately concluded that some of the samples were consistent with Fritz hair. It took this expert over two years to do his analysis, and he did so with the knowledge that when he was analyzing Fritz hair, Fritz was a suspect in the case. (Other hair samples that he analyzed were not marked as having come from a suspect). [*604] The prosecution s case may have been strengthened when it was able to prove during cross examination of Dennis Fritz that he had lied to the school system when he indicated on his job application that he had no criminal convictions. In fact, he had once been convicted of growing marijuana. (When the police had discovered this fact during its investigation, they called the junior high school where Fritz was working and told them that he was under investigation for murder and had lied about his marijuana growing conviction. The school system fired him immediately). The prosecution also established that Fritz had lied about the marijuana growing conviction on an application for a gun permit. Although this testimony may have strengthened the prosecution s case a little by showing that Fritz had lied on at least two occasions, the case in chief from the prosecution was so weak to start with that it is difficult to imagine how the case survived a motion for a directed verdict from the defense, much less provided a ... • 6. Compare And Contrast Christina s World By Andrew Wyeth In Christina s World, a painting made in 1948 by Andrew Wyeth, I see a woman sitting on a grassy field. The woman in the foreground is looking out towards the background to a brown house. In front of the house, there is a shed and what appears to be a wire fence. There are two narrow tire tracks leading to the house. Further off in the distance, there is another house. The majority of the painting is the previously mentioned grassy field. The sky is free of clouds. The woman sitting on the grass is wearing a dress and her hair is tied in a bun, a few strands blowing off in what can be assumed is a light breeze. Christina s World is a two dimensional representational painting on canvas. The artist uses the elements of color, space, motion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The strokes that make up the grass all have a slight sway that point towards the house, as well as strands of the woman s hair. The slight breeze can mean something calling the artist back to where they wish to be, a calmer place with a simpler life. I believe this because this is the mood that looking at Christina s World puts me in. The simpler life that the artist might be wishing for might not be a literal countryside, but simply the idea of something simple. The idea of wanting a less complicated or more relaxed way of life can be what the farm and grassy fields are portraying. To me, someone who has always been in the busy urban areas, only having visited suburban and country areas, this painting makes me feel something in the sense of longing. I ve never seen myself as a person fitting in with the hustle and bustle of urban life. After staying in a more suburban to country ish style of living for a month, I feel that s where I really want to be. The motion of the woman crawling to the little house on the prairie in the middle of nowhere gives me a feeling a longing from the artist to be somewhere where all that hustle and bustle of urban life can t reach ... • 7. The Secret To Raising Smart Kids The Way to Success Thomas Edison once said, Many of life s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. When it comes to success and achievements, people often believe that success is complicated and can not be reached easily. Many authors explain the reality on how we can accomplish our goals and become successful. We recently read several articles describing the keys that make us successful in our profession. The authors that discuss this journey toward achievement are Carol S. Dweck in her article The Secret to Raising Smart Kids, Geoffrey Colvin in his piece What It Takes to Be Great, Malcolm Gladwellin his novel chapter The 10,000 Hour Rule, and Jonnelle Davis in Liz Murray Shares ... Consistent practice, a growth mind set, and supportive mentors light up the road that leads us to success. If someone practice for hours, but does not have a growth mind set or supportive mentors, then it is next to impossible to accomplish his goal. And if another one has a growth mind set, but does not practice or has someone to support him, then he can not make it to the end. Thus, all of these factors complete each other to pave the road of success. Practicing for hours makes us better at doing that thing. Having a growth mind set helps us improve ourselves. • 8. Art of Love The Art of Love Framing for a Misogynist The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the contemporary social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social activities, proper style, women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid s perspective, there are three different ways to consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a beautiful treasure, and as a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanuswrites in a way that makes women seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly devote his life to. Both men have a clear fascination with women and their relationship to men. However, their distinct writing styles cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective on women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a negative viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says never a virgin there was free from the lust of a hand , which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high prize, one that is worth committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89 126). On the other end, Capellanus views the trophy of virginity as futile and counters that while you know some other man is enjoying the embraces of your beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the more (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the argument against adultery, again opposing the views of Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in detail by stating that a man in love is adorned with the virtue of chastity, because he who shines with the light of one love can hardly think of embracing another woman, even a beautiful one (1.4, 2). Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his tenderness, Ovid shares his heart, saying, do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses; do not think it a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet (Art 2. 522 553) . This is simply an outstanding statement, as it serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be taken lightly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Why Tanning Should Be Banned You may think they are just getting a nice looking tan when going to a tanning salon, but what they actually are doing is putting their lives in danger. Around 1.6 million teenagers use tanning beds each year; unfortunately, this could cause the development of the deadliest skin cancer. While some people believe that they are getting a base tan, this really does not exist. Instead, their skin will slowly age prematurely, acquire age spots and wrinkles, and in time may even develop cancer. Indoor tanning should be banned for minors and regulated more thoroughly for adults. The first thing that many people think is that they are going to get a base tan to help protect them from the sunwhile engaging in outdoor activities such as going to the beach or sitting by the pool. What they do not know is that a base tan protects their skin the same amount that spf 3 sunblock would. Marie Curie Accomplishments No one would have expected that a young Polish girl from an impoverished family would have made such great contributions and become one of the most influential scientists to ever live. During the 1860 s, society did not expect poor young women to become more than a housewife, let alone pursue a career in science. However, Marie Curiebroke through these stereotypes and in doing so, inspired many women to follow in her footsteps. Many would believe that someone who has gained so much recognition in the scientific community and achieved their lifetime goal would have a positive outlook in life and a optimistic attitude. However, this was not the case for Marie Curie, who battled severe depression from an early age. Although Marie Curie found herself in some dark places, she worked even harder to overcome many societal and personal challenges. Without Marie Curie s lifetime dedication to science, her discovery of radium and polonium, and her scientific contributions to radiation, our world would not be the same. The purpose of the BRP 2 is to help identify students with emotional, behavioral, personal, or social adjustment problems in many settings. The BRP 2 assesses behavior at home, in school, and in interpersonal relationships for individuals. According to Kelley, Reitman, Noell (2003), The system is comprised of six elements, which can be used independently, or in conjunction with each other to provide a more ecological view of the individual s behavioral functioning (p. 132). There are three Student Rating Scales, a Parent Rating Scale (home), a Teacher Rating Scale (school), and a Sociogram (peers). The Sociogram is not really a scale, but provides a classroom based peer nomination procedure. The assessment should be given to the teacher, the parents, and used to observe Jay during a peer interaction This assessment was chosen, because each after reviewing the many components of this assessment it gives information to help find interventions regarding Jay s behavior. For example, the Parent Rating Scale will help discover underlining issues at home that might contribute to Jay s ongoing behavior. One of the cons of this assessment is that Spanish version is available, however, it was normed in Mexico and caution should be applied to interpreting these norms with Spanish speaking students from the United States. • 19. Theories Of Attachment Attachment is defined as an emotional bond that is formed between a child and an individual that is developed throughout the child s development. As a human, it is common for us to form emotional bonds with people we are close with especially to our parents. Most of the studies conducted on the attachment theory mainly focuses on the attachment between infants and their parents, although attachments between adults can also occur. Attachment behaviour is not only observed in humans but also in animals, which is also referred to as imprinting by biologists. This essay will examine the attachment theory, explore Ainsworth strange situation experiments and discuss how infant attachment styles affect later development. Early studies on attachment were conducted on animals and one of the earliest ones was carried out by Konrad Lorenz. His studies eventually led to the discovery of imprinting, which is defined as the behaviour that takes place during a critical period and involves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theory also claims that it is care and responsiveness which forms attachment instead of food. • 20. Persuasive Essay On Guns In Schools Since 2013, there have been 306 school shootings in America. That is an average of one shooting per week. The mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, located in Parkland, FL was committed by nineteen year old, Nikolas Cruz. He was armed with an AR 15 and open fired in the school, killing seventeen people and wounding several others. This is the deadliest school shooting since the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. It s extremely unfortunate to know that children are also victims of America s gun violence crisis, even while attending school. It is even more unfortunate and frustrating to know that the National Rifle Association (NRA) use school shootings like Parkland to encourage policies that allow guns in schools. According to Everytownresearch, there is no evidence to validate the increased safety of arming teachers in schools. They were born in different situations and I think that has molded their personalities today. Tom s mother was a stray and had her kittens in a backyard. The kittens were found and I adopted Tom with his brother. I was told Tom got hurt as a kitten a lot. He burned his nose on the stove, fell from shelves, and was dominated by his brother. I think this is why he is more skittish and exhibits the traits like timid, fearful, and excitable. He has experienced the consequences of being curious and adventurous and is now very wary of a lot of things. Tim, on the other hand, was born in a home and taken care of by an elderly lady who was always with him. We adopted him from the elderly lady. Tim has formed a strong attachment to my mother and follows her around. He has always been taken care of and has stayed within a confined, safe environment. I think his security in my mother and not getting hurt as much as a kitten like Tom is why he feels he can venture out more. Something else to take into account is that Tom has a lot of health problems. We have been told he is in pain sometimes and tires more easily because he is overweight. This can also contribute to his actions. Perhaps Tom would be more like Tim if it were not for his health problems. Vice versa, Tim might be more like Tom if he had Tom s health problems. He was able to see not only the light hearted, celebratory, and successful side of the American Dream, but also the negative effects of overindulging with alcohol and incessant partying. All of his decisions are based on his need to feel superior and his interminable chase after the idea of Daisy that he has created. Part of the genius of the novel that Fitzgerald included was the two dimensionality of the characters. Almost all of the characters lacked a human aspect of their characterization. Fitzgerald wrote them this way on purpose. He wrote the characters of The Great Gatsby the way that he saw people around him in his everyday life: shallow and vapid. Instead of filling the novel with well rounded characters, he filled it with characters who at best made questionable decisions, even with good intentions in mind. His decision in doing this is extremely important to the themes portrayed in the novel. The Great Gatsby brought a lot of the social issues that were going on in the 20 s into the light, and in a brilliant way. Lomas provides a background on the common anthropological beliefs of the day with a focus on anthropometry, which gave scientific backing to the racial, cultural and sexual hierarchy; a hierarchy that Picasso rebels against through the usage of primitive sources and morally degenerate subject matter. The degeneracy of the prostitute s profession associated them with races at the bottom of the established hierarchy. Traditional marital customs still play a pivotal role in people s common life, especially in their own marriage practices. In contemporary Chinese society, when young people coming to the age of marriage, parents, realities and other significant others usually push them to take their heterosexual boyfriend or girlfriend back home (Lee, 2013). They are changing the way people interact, make and break friendships, gossip and communicate. This essay will explore the extent to which social networking has re defined social relationships and consider whether or not the impact of social networking is generationally specific. Online social networking could be defined in many ways depending on which book, article or journal you are reading. Brown s research tells us that the internet has drastically re shaped our individual social lives over the distance of just a couple of decades, luring us into a virtual world where traditional interactions such as living, loving, belonging and separating require new protocols (Brown, A, 2011 p 29). For many in the future, the path followed when falling in love may be via an online website. Dating sites, which we have once thought of as an uncool way to meet and connect with new people, have grown in popularity. They may perhaps be seen to have taken on the role that was once filled by family and friends. Facilitating and managing relationships online is projected to become close to a billion dollar industry in the United States in 2011 , (Brown, A, 2011 p30). He says that people tends to think that things are becoming worst or didn t change which is not true. He said that there is a need to communicate because the data of what happening in the world is well aware. He compares the life expectancy and fertility rate of many countries since 1960. He found out that they is a lot of countries that have improved in term of life expectancy. As example China and India has improved and are moving toward better health care and small families like develop countries. He also compared the income distribution in the world and found out that there wasn t a gap between rich and poor anymore and that there were a lot of countries that were in the middle and had 24% of the income. Looking at the graph, the actual distribution was mounded shaped while it used to be a bump. He shows that it is dangerous to use average data because there is a lot of differences between countries and that policy makers have to take that into consideration while designing the laws for one region. The labor force has risen to a high of 196,500 people in 2016 and participation in the job market has risen to 83%, both of which could be attributed to the recently booming tourism industry (Iceland Chamber of Commerce, 2017). However, in the previous years the deficit has sharply declined from one year to the next. Specifically, in 2014, the deficit in total, was 514 billion (2014). Yes, 514 billion dollars is unbelievable, yet this number is surprisingly less than what the United States had previous to new laws being implemented. Specifically, in 2009, the deficit was 1.4 trillion dollars (2014). This trend is highly permissible, however is this decline something that we may expect to occur in the next decade. Unfortunately, as the Congressional Budget Office states, Under current law, deficits will drop through 2015 but rise thereafter, boosting the already high federal debt, CBO projects. Unnervingly, spending will grow more rapidly than the GDP as the age of our population grows, so will their contributions to the economy. Some say it was evolution, and others trust that it was the magnificent Lord that reigns above. In the poem, Preface to God s Determinations, Edward Taylor exposes God s handiwork through his countless use of metaphors. By comparing the immense land features to mediocre objects, he reveals the wonders Godhas shaped. Taylor uses the word infinity to start the poem, this states that God is everlasting and has been since the beginning of time. God created the world from nothing and shaped it to his liking. He single handedly formed the world into what it is today. The use of metaphors throughout the poem allows the audience to picture what God has made with objects that we see today. This is evident when he states, Who in this Bowling Alley bowled the Sun? Countless people have been bowling before, and Taylor compares the sun to a bowling ball being hurled down the alley.
