imperative to achieve accurate on time results, which Justin did with much extra effort. His
customers and I appreciated his sense of urgency and commitment to quality. Feedback from his
customers praised the detailed quality of his work and his receptiveness to addressing any and all

not able to commit the required time to a thorough job with the extreme daily pressures involved
with the SMC program, along with complication of lost data due to a computer crash. This work
has gained priority in December and will continue through 2017. Justin has led an activity, with
support of our summer intern, to determine the variation of single cylinder fuel flow measurement

valuable enough to include in Justin s SMC final report as error bars on NSFC status.

Patient...
...She s somethin of a cunt, ain t she Doc? Although Milos Foreman s character, Randle
McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), put his opinion of Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) in the most
vulgar of terms, he was not so far from the truth. In the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest
(1975), Nurse Ratched s treatment and care of the patients was unethical when compared to the
standards one would expect of a health care administrator. She used control over her patients to
ensure order, without regard to the feelings and concerns of the patients. This issue is presented by
the director, Milos Foreman, through symbolism, characterization and scenes. This, in turn,
determines how the director wants us, as viewers, to feel about the issue. The... Show more content

The psychiatrists, with Ratched present, concluded: He s not crazy, but he s dangerous.
Ratched insists on committing Mac in spite of the danger, and her superiors defer. Thus we see
Ratched s need to win trumps good judgment. She does win. Mac comes within seconds of
crushing her windpipe. The ethical thing to do following the attack would have been to assign
Mac to the disturbed ward or to have him released into the custody of the corrections dept. She
doesn t. She arranges a lobotomy for Mac. That s how she wins. Ratched destroys Mac s ability
to function at all; she neutralizes him; she takes away his humanity. There are many situations in
which Nurse Ratched exhibits control over her patients, by treating them as subordinates,
humiliating them and de masculinizing them without concern for their well being. She uses
control to withhold simple privileges, such as being able to watch a baseball game on the
television, tub privileges and their right to have possession of cigarettes. It seems she actually
derives satisfaction from this through hints of smiles, which are so seldom seen. This only brings
about anger and hostility in the patients because of the way she treats them: like children instead
of men. This is put best when one patient, Charlie Cheswick (Sydney Lassick) says, Rules? Piss

The Godfather In the chosen scene, we see Sonny Corleone heading home after an incident
where he threatens his brother in law with death if he continues to abuse the sister of Sonny. On
his drive back, he stops at a toll booth; however, cars pull up behind him, and to each side boxing
him in. The passengers of all 3 vehicles open fire on Sonny resulting in his tragic death. I believe
that this scene in particular helps to embody the movie as a whole due to its tragic and violent
nature. For instance, earlier in the movie Don Corleon attempts to help his Godson, Johnny

I believe that this scene in particular truly captures the devastation, destruction and sadness that
the true attack brought on both in reality and in the fictionalized account created within the
movie. The pain, the sorrow and the desire for revenge that is reflected in the eyes and faces of
the attendees helps to set the stage for the subsequent scenes in the movie where the bombing run
on Japan occurs. While I do have to admit that there are an assortment of better scenes in the
movie such as the scene where Danny dies and tells Rafe with his last breath that Rafe will be a
father or the ending scene where Rafe and his young son ride off in a small plane, the fact remains
that these scenes could be attributed to any other fictional movie while the memorial scene truly

5. Making Better Decisions on Environmental Issues
Intro to GIS and environmental management
GIS (Geographic Information System) is a new geographical research technology since the 1960s,
which is a powerful software that allows a virtually unlimited amount of information to be linked to
a geographic location. The more and more extensive environmental causes, abundant data resources
from scientific researches, as well as the continuous improvement of the computer and GIS
technology, all call for wider and deeper application of GIS in the environment field, such as the
environmental management, environmental impact assessment, pollution monitoring, environmental
graphics, etc. In ArcGIS, one well known product of ESRI, various analytical tools are used to help
people make better decisions on environmental issues.
GIS is an interdisciplinary technology, integrated by computer science, geography, surveying,
cartography and stuff. Generally, GIS includes computer hardware and software systems and
processes that are used to solve complex planning and management problems, supports spatial data
collection, management, operation, analysis and simulation. Main functions of GIS include the
input, storage, processing and output of geographic data collected from map vectorization, remote
sensing data, GPS, etc. GIS s characteristics are: strong system of spatial data management; vivid
and intuitive user interface; powerful spatial analysis capability.

Imagine being in a room with 10 people talking to you. Would you be able to understand the
conversations? It would be hard to concentrate on any one person s conversation, but you could
probably do it. Now, imagine being at the Superdome with 70,000 people talking to you. Would
you be able to understand any of the conversations? You probably could not understand any one
person for a length of time, but again you might pick out some of the words. Well, what if the
scenario was 7 billion people speaking 6 thousand languages at an auctioneer s pace on the topic
of their personal family lineage; would you be able to create someone s whole family tree? This
is the type of scenario that represents the different facets of Big Data. What does it mean to say
big data ? Big Data is more than just massive amounts of data stored together. It is more than just
data delivered or analyzed fast. Meta Group s Doug Laney described it as data that has volume,
velocity, and variety (2001). This is the 3 V s of Big Data and is widely used to define it.
Additions to this definition include other V s, such as veracity and value (XXX). What is volume?
Volume could be 7 billion people speaking at once. It can be the data created by millions of
Americans uploading photos, buying shoes online, or searching for the definition of Big Data. It is

7. Amusing Ourselves To Death Neil Postman Analysis
In 1985, when Neil Postman penned, Amusing Ourselves to Death, CNN, and the twenty four hour
news cycle existed in its infancy and televangelism was still unscathed by the Jim Baker and Jimmy
Swaggart scandals. A B movie actor sat in the Oval Office. Conceivably most importantly,
television, the love child of the photograph and the telegraph, had reached maturity to become fully
entrenched in American culture after thirty some years (p. 100). Newscasters, preachers, and
politicians had become celebrities. The information presented on the tube was deficient in
meaningful content and lacked context. Nevertheless, the public s level of amusement rode high.
Televisions capacity to manipulate public persona and information on the news, in religion, and in
politics creates a vaudeville atmosphere on these modes of public discourse.

8. Character Analysis Of Mae Holland In The Circle
Mae Holland is an ambitious, intelligent young woman and the main character in Dave Eggers
novel The Circle. Although her character is paramount to telling the novel s main story (detailing
the prominence of the monopolistic, power hungry tech company known as The Circle ), she is
hardly a protagonist, with her being ill informed at best at the book s beginning, and complicit in
the Circles nefarious doings by the novel s conclusion. Mae is an exceptionally bland character
who offers little interesting internal dialogue and who s only notable overarching character trait
is her ever present insecurity and her need to please others. Arguably, it could be said that Mae
truly is not the main character of The Circle at all; Rather The Circle company itself, or more
precisely Mae s relationship with the The Circle (and by association its dystopian philosophies)
are what take center stage. As a character, Mae is malleable; a clean slate waiting to take orders
and eager to agree with her superiors, she yearns for attention from others, is figuratively trapped
inside The Circle s elaborate campus, and acts as a mouthpiece for the The Circle s leaders;
repeating whatever they want her to say. Due to the fact that Mae Holland possess these
characteristics, she is comparable to a parrot.
The same way a parrot enters its cage with a blank mind, devoid of any calls or phrases, Mae
approaches her job at The Circle with an open mind, not influenced by any previous work
experiences. When thinking of the occupation she previously held prior to working at The
Circle, Mae expresses extreme discontent. Her final day at the public utility in her hometown
had been only three weeks ago they d been stupefied when she gave notice but it already seemed
impossible that she wasted so much of her life there. Good riddance, Mae thought, to that gulag
and all it represented (pg 4). The passage above indicates that Mae loathed her previous job,
considering it a waist of her life and likening it to a gulag . This shows that Mae felt little passion
or allegiance to her old job, and thus approaches her new job at The Circle with a blank mind, not
considering her previous experiences valuable to her in any way.

The way soccer teams do this is by using their skills. Maybe they are faster so they will show it

is how they see the world becoming the best selves so they can succeed in life. These people

12. How Dmitri Shostakovich Adhere From The Conventions And...
In this essay I will be discussing the extent that Dmitri Shostakovich adhered to and rebelled from
the conventions and traditions that were normalized in classical music and I will offer varied
examples of the many times Shostakovich has obeyed and dissented within music throughout his
career. The career span of Shostakovich extends from 1926 when he presented his first major work,
SymphonyNo.1 to 1970 when he presented Quartet No. 7.
Born Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich on the 25th September, 1906, in St. Petersburg, Russia,
the composer began his descent into classical music at the age of 9, before later moving on to
study at the Petrograd conservatory. Throughout his life he compiled 15 symphonies, 15 string
quartets and 36 film scores as well as many other compositions. Within his musical work and the
course of his career Shostakovich managed to both adhere to traditions set within classical music as
well as dissent from them, I will be exploring these.
I would first like to address what traditions are associated with classical music to highlight how
Shostakovich dissented from these.
I will begin by briefly explaining the definition of chamber music, the definition of chamber music

form being the string quartet. (www.oxforddictionaries.com)
Traditionally chamber music was often intended for a small and intimate audience rather than for

14. The Not So Glamorous Reality of Best in Show Dogs
For over a century breeders have shown off their wonderful dogs in large scale dog shows such as
Westminster or Crufts. It is a great tradition and celebration for most and an event anticipated by
many dog lovers. Breeders from all over the nation come to compete with their champion show
dogs, in which they have invested a great amount of time, money, and energy. Every competitor
dreams of ultimately winning the glorious title of best in show.
However, behind the glitz and glamour of the dog shows there is a dark reality for these pedigree
dogs. The majority of the dogs in shows suffer from a variety of genetic diseases, disorders and
deformities that are specific to their breed. The Kennel Clubs that manage the dog shows have a
book of breed standards that dog breeders follow religiously. The problem with these breed
standards is the fact these standards are only based off of what they believe would be the best
features for the dog s overall appearance. These do not take the general health of the animal into
consideration. On the contrary, some of these standards actually make genetic defects more
desirable in a purebred dog because the physical features in these particular standards are an
indicator of deformity. For example, the standarsd set for the Rhodesian Rigdebackinclude the
requirement for the characteristic ridge on their back, which is a line of hair going in the opposite
direction of the rest of the dog s coat. Although it is thought that this is the correct

15. Odysseus Fighting For Justice In Homer sOdyssey
In Homer s Odyssey, towards the beginning, Homer uses the specific epithet raider of cities to
illuminate the negative side of Odysseus when he plundered without any self control. Later, while
Odysseus is fighting for justice by killing the suitors, Homer narrates, And Odysseus raider of cities
struck Eurydamas down (418). When Odysseusis fulfilling his revenge against the suitors, he is
still described as a raider of cities by Homer. Now, since Odysseus is fighting in the name of
justice against the sinful suitors, is Homer still using the epithet in a negative way? Or is Homer
using the epithet to express a more positive aspect of Odysseus? Moreover, does Homer emphasize
that the raider of cities has changed with respect to his self possession? Homer illuminates the
transformation in the raider of cities due to his mastery of self possession. The change in Odysseus
mercifulness towards innocent women accentuates his grasp on self possession. Before, Odysseus
did not show mercy towards anyone, especially women. When his army stormed a town, he himself
states, Plunder we took, and we enslaved the women, to make...equal shares to all (146). When
Odysseus enslaves the women, Homer seems to particularly emphasize the negative quality of
mercilessness in him as a raider of cities. Odysseus does not feel any compassion when he enslaves
innocent women handing them off to men as if they are objects. Moreover, Odysseus plunders and
enslaves without any self control, which highlights that he is glorifying and enjoying himself.
Destroying a city, killing many people, and raping innocent women evidently shows the immense
amount of self possession that Odysseus completely lacks. Later on, Odysseus seems to change his
stance on mercy. After he kills every suitor, Odysseus tells Eurykleia, To glory over slain men is no
piety...Your part is now to tell me of the women...who dishonored me, and the innocent (422).
Homer accentuates the change in Odysseus with respect to his mercifulness towards innocent
women. Rather than disregarding innocent women, he now differentiates between them and the
dishonorable. Furthermore, he himself says that it is impious to glory over murdered men, which
reveals the transformation

work on the Constitution, Madison s life reflects a legislative talent (Wills 3). Through his interest
in politics, he was able to shape the forming nation. Education, illness, and religion dominated the

Partly because of ill health, but also suiting his bookish nature, Madison spent the years prior to the
American Revolution studying where he resumed his investigations of government (Sheldon 25).
Through these investigations, Madison found himself being drawn down into the real turmoil of
Virginia politics, inflamed by the impending revolution (Sheldon 26).
Madison s high education and religious morals later shaped his political career, while his own ideas
center around a religious emphasis. Garrett Sheldon, who specializes in political philosophy,
analyzed the religious influences in James Madison s ideas. Madison s naturally studious
inclinations meshed nicely with the reformed Christian emphasis on learned faith (2). His
writing often reflected the thoughtful religious faith, reverence for Scripture, and view of his
political career as a divine calling (3). Madison used religious ideals in his reasoning. His ideas
came from Protestant theology, and Madison, under the teaching of the Presbyterian minister,
kept notebooks on his studies of John Locke, Plato, Fontenelle, and Euclid (3 4). His education
was full of Christian beliefs as well as political studies. Madison was guided by the Christian
realist views of man s weak, sinful nature and followed the Calvinist views of human evil (1; 23).
Sheldon further concludes that Madison s religious upbringing underlies his application of other

Abstract: The treatment of dominantly inherited neurodegenerative disease has been not feasible

cause gene silencing due to the molecule forming a complex with messenger RNA (mRNA),

However the prevalence of such diseases is in areas where there are small community resulting in
interbreeding, for example Huntington s disease (HD) and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); are
prime examples of such incidents. This class of diseases causes the apoptosis of neurons and
surrounding cells. The outcome for the sufferers has often been death. However there is promising
developments in gene therapy, including SiRNA therapy in the treatment of these diseases.
Small Interfering RNA (SiRNA) was discovered by Andrew Fire and Craig Mello, receiving the
Nobel Prize in 2006 for their work. (Kaur et al, 2012) Typically SiRNA are between 21 and 23
RNA nucleotides in length. SiRNA has the ability to cause the inactivity of a genes expression in
somatic mammalian cells; has proven to be an exceptional tool for researchers for the control of
disease causing genes and theoretical treatments of inherited diseases in the future. However
siRNA can only be used once the target mRNA sequence is known. (Sioud, 2004) However due to
the Human Genome Project, a large portion of the target genes have been sequenced allowing
SiRNA to become more practical.
The siRNA molecule is the product of the RNA interference(RNAi) pathway. The starting
molecule in the pathway is a long triggering double stranded RNA (dsRNA). The dsRNA is
formed from either an RNAi molecule inserted into the cell or a siRNA which complexes with a
specific strand of messenger RNA

isn t very different from how Captain Hook dresses, both wear pink, very frilly/ feminine
clothing, as well as both characters extremely careful about their appearances. Let alone how they
both act, exaggerated movements, flowery language and very prissy like. But what was happening
during the time Wreck It Ralph came out? Wreck It Ralph came out in 2012, during this time man

was also major pushback from many states who banned same sex marriage before their district
courts could rule it unconstitutional or even be brought up. Not only was that an issue a lot of
homophobia and the f slur (sorry I personally refuse to say it let alone type it, but I am sure you
know what I mean). King Candy is also another stereotypical gay man represented in Disney with
the only difference to Captain Hook, is that King Candy isn t seen going after boys. Between
these two characters and the time eras, Disney hasn t made much of an effort to change when it
comes to how it portrays the LGBT community since it has viewed Captain Hook and King Candy

20. Pros And Cons Of The First Amendment
First Amendment
When talking about the First Amendment, the law protects us from freedom of speech and free
exercise of religion and it also stops Congress from making any new law to prohibit free speech
and free exercise. The case involving a Christian printer who refused to print gay pride T shirts. The
printer declined the printing job for T shirts promoting a gay pride festival on religious grounds,
but he did offer the customer to help them find other local printers to do the work for the same
price. Based on the information that was provided the printer had a history of rejecting other orders
for shirts promoting sexually explicit material/actions and violence.
There are a couple of argument that the owner could argue about one would be is that it is his
own business and he put his blood, sweat, and tears into the business. On top of that, it was his
own money that started the business without any government helps or assistance. No one should
be forced to do anything against what they believe in. For example, you are an Asian business
owner of a printing shop and a customer came in and requests to do a print job of a man holding
chopstick and a bowl of rice, hanging by the neck with a rope with X as eyes and a tongue sticking
out of the mouth. Who would in their right mind take that job?
The second argument would be is that the owner has a right to decline to print anything against
their belief, and a photographer gay or not has a right to decline to photograph anti gay or gay
rally and a Christian printer has a right to decline to print messages that violate their belief. The
right of free speech is to protect everyone, and it means that the government doesn t get to force
anyone to say things that contradict their deeply held belief. This is not a straight or gay issue but
this is a human issue.
The third argument would be that he did indeed offer the customer a different a route to go for
the print job. He also went out of his way and contact different local printer to take the job that he
couldn t do. He is just want to be a good Christian and doesn t want to break any rule. Just like a
good citizen of U.S., no one dares to break any laws intentionally.

21. Mansfield Park Marriage Analysis
Marriage as a Dubious Goal in Mansfield Park
Jane Austen s 1814 novel Mansfield Park begins and ends with the topic of marriage. In this regard
it seems to fit into the genre of the courtship novel, a form popular in the eighteenth century in
which the plot is driven by the heroine s difficulties in attracting an offer from the proper suitor.
According to Katherine Sobba Green, the courtship novel detailed a young woman s entrance into
society, the problems arising from that situation, her courtship, and finally her choice (almost
always fortunate) among suitors (2). Often the heroine and her eventual husband are kept apart
initially by misunderstanding, by the hero s misguided attraction to another, by financial obstacles,
or by family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is plain to the reader, and seemingly to Fanny as well, that she faces a difficult, dreary, and
perhaps dangerous life without either an advantageous match or the continued protection and
support of her uncle, neither of which, at this moment in the plot, she can take for granted.
If marriage can have the effect of saving a woman from economic hardship, it also can have the
opposite effect. The novel s note of warning about marriage is sounded in the first few sentences,
with the comparative history of the three Ward sisters of Huntingdon (Fanny Price s two aunts
and her mother), beginning about thirty years ago, when the eldest sister, Maria, although
possessing an income of only seven thousand pounds, had the good luck to captivate Sir Thomas
Bertram, of Mansfield Park, in the county of Northampton, and to be thereby raised to the rank of
a baronet s lady, with all the comforts and consequences of an handsome house and large income
(5). From the beginning, readers learn the factors influencing the marriage market for the
daughters of respectable country families in late eighteenth century England. A woman was
expected to bring a dowry to a marriage and the higher the better. As Elizabeth Bergen Brophy
explains, Depending on the circumstances dowries ranged from vast fortunes and estates
especially if the bride were the sole heir of the family to a few hundred pounds (or less), enough to

22. Atonement Theme Love Essay
In Atonement, the theme of love is explored in a variety of different ways. McEwan explores
many different kinds of love including romantic love, platonic love, self love and family love.
One way that McEwan explores love in the novel is through letters. The epistolary form of the
novel gives the readers an insight at what the characters are thinking and feeling, as they more
profoundly express their feelings through their letters. For example, Robbie and Cecilia have
expressed their feelings to eachother through letters since the earlier chapters of the novel, where
Robbie sends an explicit letter to Cecilia (Chapter 8). Their letters continued even when Robbie
went to prison and Dunkirk. Cecilia uses her words to tell Robbie that she... Show more content on

These different kinds of love help to make the novel more complex and offer more viewpoints to
the story. Family love is a great theme in the novel, and we see it in many forms. For example,
we see it in the early chapters between Cecilia and Briony Cecilia and Briony have an extremely
strong relationship that falls apart as the novel progresses. The memory of Cecilia comforting
Briony in a nightmare It s only a dream. Come back in Chapter 3, Page 44 helps tell us about the
relationship they have with eachother, and also helps to show how Briony has unconditional
support and loyalty to her family. Briony s fault is that she cannot comprehend the idea that her
siblings can be in any way sexual she fails to see that Cecilia could be in a consenting
relationship with Robbie in the library, and she tries to get her brother Leon to provoke his
admiration, and guide him away from a careless succession of girlfriends, and towards the right
form of wife . This strong family love is shown through Briony being undeniably loyal to Cecilia
as she calls herself Cecilia s protector and thinks a tragedy will bring them closer together.
Everything she does is a step towards protecting her family. Family love is explored through all the
characters, and the different relationships offer different viewpoints to the story Lola and Briony,
Robbie and Grace, Emily and Briony...these relationships show pure and strong family love.

There are two ways to classify the nervous system: structural and functional classifications.
Structural classification includes all the organs of the nervous system. There are two groups that
forms nervous system: central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS). CNS
covers the brain and spinal cordof the human body. It unites and gives orders to the nervous system.
It translates incoming sensory information and gives directions based on past experiences and the
current environment. PNS covers parts of the nervous system outside the CNS. It includes the
cranial and spinal nerves which extends from the brainand spinal cord of the human body. Spinal

24. Lying In The Truman Show
The Truman Show was an odd show because the idea of the plot could potentially be in effect at
this very moment. Just like how The Matrix could also be in effect, but this show seemed very
creepy to me because of the plain lie to Truman. One thing that hits a button within me is the
whole concept of lying. I don t know if I was lied to once when I was young and how it made me
feel never changed, or if it is the idea that the truth for whatever reason can t reveal itself is such
a bullshit idea. I think that even if the truth is so bad the person still deserves to know even if
not knowing would be in their best interest. If we shelter an individual of how bad life can really
be then when the time comes for them to actually experience life first hand then it would be worse
and potentially too late for them to learn. Also, if the person or people who are lying think it
would be in the best interest of the person they re lying to, I think it is that person s right to
determine what the best interest of their own life and how they handle the situation is just as
important as the bad situation is.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

26. Radiation Quantity And Units Essay
Radiation quantity and units Most scientists in the international community measure radiation
using the System International (SI), a uniform system of weights and measures that evolved from
the metric system. In the United States, however, the conventional system of measurement is still
widely used.
2.2.1) Units of Radioactivity:
The original unit for measuring the amount of radioactivity was the curie (Ci) first defined to
correspond to one gram of radium 226 and more recently defined as: 1 curie = 3.7x1010 radioactive
decays per second. In the International System of Units (SI) the curie has been replaced by the
Becquerel (Bq), where One Ci is equal to 37 billion (37 X 109) Bq.
Ci or Bq may be used to refer to the amount of radioactive materials released into the environment.
2.2.2) Radiation exposure unit:
The exposure rate defined as the exposure per unit time. The special unit of exposure is the
roentgen (R) defined as the amount of gamma ray and X ray radiation that produced a charge of 1
electrostatic unit (esu) of charge per 0.001293 g (1cm3) of dry air at standard temperature and
pressure (IAEA, 1989). The SI (stander international) units of exposure are coulomb/Kg of dry air.
1R = 2.58 Г— 10 4 C/Kg in air

Do patients who undergo renal transplantation suffer from long term dental/health complications as
opposed to individuals who have not undergone transplantation?
My search strategy for the scientific literature started with PubMed. I input the following phrase
into the search bar: Dental complications from kidney transplants . 100 articles were gathered as
potential scientific literatures that could be used for my specific learning issue. In finding articles
that provided general dental and health complications, the task offered a manageable list of
scientific articles to sift through. For the next time, I would like to focus on specific dental/health
complications from kidney transplants and how it could affect patients in such ways instead of in a
general systemic manner.
The first selected article, The status of dental and jaw bones in children and adolescents after
kidney and liver transplantation , focuses on the main systemic complications patients may
encounter after renal transplantation within the oral cavity. The research question the Department
of Pediatric Dentistry at the Medical University of Warsaw in Warsaw, Poland, posed was to
evaluate the incidence of various dental abnormalities within children who underwent kidney
transplantation with the added factor of taken immunosuppressant drugs. A benefit of the article in

resulted in the extinction of ninety percent of the species on earth, including the dinosaurs. For
many years scientist have been working to solve the age old question, how did life originate on
Earth? Many have come up with hypotheses ranging from evolution to extraterrestrial beings.
However new evidence has come into light that the same comet that destroyed the dinosaurs could

They had performed a number of experiments, where they tried to recreate the conditions of the

30. The Goodness Of Matt Kaizer Character Analysis
Matt Kaizer, the protagonist in Avi s short story The Goodness of Matt Kaizer, is a 6th grader
who develops a new perspective on himself as a person. After being told his entire life to act
good like his father, Matt Kaizer now struggles to find himself; he turns to be unlike his father and
becomes a daredevil. However, a dare to visiting a dying manleads him to see the goodness in
himself. After visiting Mr.Bataky, Matt s perspective of himself begins to change.
The Goodness of Matt Kaizer begins with Matt as insecure and heartless. He attempts to change
the image that everyone expects of him due to his father s reputation. Early in the story, Matt
Kaizer was insecure; he tried to do anything that would help him fit in. Reverend Kaizer, Matt s
father, is known as an upstanding member in the community. He is a well respected man and
Matt is adamant to be unlike him. Because Matt and his father converse, Matt s insecurities are
revealed, Matt, I do believe that there is goodness in everyone. That goes for you too ... I m not
good Matt insisted... Long as my friends dare me to do bad things, I ll do them (Avi 36). Matt
Kaizer is insecure about how others perceive him, since he is the son of a minister. Matt Kaizer
would have taken on any dare that his friends give him. No matter how deplorable it would
seem, he would take it as he is desperate to not to be as his father s son. He is insecure about the
way people perceive him as a reverend s son, because a large weight rest on his shoulders to be
good. He surrounds himself with bad children; he hoped that they will be a poor influence on
him. Likewise, Matt Kaizer is heartless throughout the beginning of the story. While he takes a
dare to visit an alcoholic on the verge of death, his lack of feelings is uncovered, My mother said
that he may die at any moment. Mary Beth informed us... Who cut the cheese? he said with a
grin (Avi 42 43). The insensitive remark Matt spoke about Mary Beth s household suggests he
does not care about how she must be feeling. He never cares about the people around him, because
he desires to be unlike his kind father in every way imaginable. This compels Matt to act as if he

The Better Online Ticket Sale Act will prohibit the usage of computer softwares to purchase
large amounts of tickets and reselling them at a higher price, claiming the ticket scalping is
unfair. If I was a member of congress, I would have supported this act because using softwares to
buy and resell tickets drives up the price for the buyers, who had less chance of purchasing it
competing with the software at the original price. Aristotle would have also been supportive of this

John Ruskin would make similar decision, due to his concern with the way we obtain wealth, and
inequality in the economy. However, Andrew Carnegie would have thought... Show more content on

Thus, in this case, the consumers are getting poorer in response to the ticket scalpers earning a
profit. In his article, he wrote about two examples about events that happens in life, and ways of
pursuing money that can leads to inequality. Also arguing that inequality of wealth distribution
will leads to less accumulative production, because those who are wealthier will choose not to
work not because they are incapable, but they have the ability to fulfill their needs by paying the
others. In this case, the consumers who purchase the tickets are working hard to be able to pay for
them at a much higher price, while the ticket scalpers are earning a huge profit, which will lead
them to work less, therefore, the community will have a lower total output.
Some will also argue against Better Online Ticket Sales Act, claiming that its benefits to the
economy outweighs the negative effects. Andrew Carnegie, one of the most wealthy man in U.S.
history, takes a different standpoint than Aristotle and Ruskin. Carnegie believe the distribution of
wealth is important in an economy, and the wealthier are more capable of handling money. The
way of obtaining wealth is not so important as compared to the way of spending it, Carnegie
believe the rich have the responsibility of improving the society, and they should allow their wealth
to flow back into the society. He then would argue the ticket scalpers are

33. Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
An Analysis of Tragic Heroism of Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
This literary study will define the tragic heroism of Biff Loman in Arthur Miller s play The Death
of a Salesman. Biff is initially a victim of Willy s continual harassment to make more money and
find a better career. In this family unit, Biff must endure the unrealistic and fantasy based elusions
of his father in his fanatical pursuit of the American Dream. However, Biff soon learns of Willy s
extra marital betrayal to his mother, which allows him to experience an epiphany against the self
deception of his father s abusive fantasy world. Biffs tragic role in this family is found in the
ability to accept reality and overcome the victim role imposed on him by his father. This tragic
aspect of Biffs heroism defines a single voice of reason in a self deceiving family unit, which
defines his liberation from his father s tyrannical behavior. In essence, Biffs tragic heroism will be
examined by analyzing the journey towards self realization in Arthur Miller s The Death of a
Salesman. The beginning of Miller s play presents Willy Loman, a failed salesman that is
continually putting pressure on his children to get better jobs and make more money. Willy s
pursuit of the American Dream exploits Biff and Happy as a type of retirement plan in this
materialistic mindset: You ll retire me for life on seventy goddamn dollars a week? (Miller 28). In

Abigail Adams Book Critique In the novel, Abigail Adams: A Revolutionary American Woman,
Charles Akers portrays the life of a strong, revolutionary woman named Abigail Adams. She was
known as the first lady of the United States under John Adams and she played an indirect role in
influencing the American Revolution. She is called one of the founders of the country for her
revolutionary thinking and her being a rights activist. Abigail Adamsfaced many hardships
throughout her life. She was the daughter of a minister and had two sisters and a brother. In the
1700 s, children did not have a high survival rate due to the amount of diseases and nothing to
treat them with. Abigail Adams said in her old age that she was always sick (Akers 5). This
reminds people how tough life was in the 1700 s and how easy it was to pass away from a mere
cold. Abigail also did not have any education growing up. Women, in the colonial era, were not
supposed to have an education and were supposed to watch the kids, cook, and clean. Readers of
this book learn that many women back then were illiterate and were self taught, if they had any
education. Abigail did find a love for literature due to her sister s spouse, Richard Cranch. He
influenced her love for literature at a young age and she started to become more literate. Along with
the disease and educational deficiency, women were considered as property. A young womancould

38. Health Financing Is Not For Effective Public Health Essay
Health financing refers to the function of a health system concerned with the mobilization,
accumulation and allocation of money to cover the health needs of the people, individually and
collectively, in the health system... the purpose of health financing is to make funding available,
as well as to set the right financial incentives to providers, to ensure that all individuals have
access to effective public health and personal health care (WHO 2000). It is a well established
fact that all countries must have efficiently organized and managed health financing systems in
order to ensure human welfare. Or it can be simply said that without the necessary funds, no health
workers will be employed, no medicines would be available nor will any health promotion or
prevention activities take place (WHO). However it should also be noted that financing is not
merely the generation of funds. It is one of the critical determinants that influence health outcomes
in a country. It is mandatory to have a good financing mechanism in place to ensure equity and
accessibility as well as to protect the majority of the population from catastrophic health
expenditures. Even in a high income country like the United States, cost escalations have put even
the basic healthcare inaccessible to several segments of the population, where carefully planned
financing arrangements have not been implemented (HLEG Report on UHC 2011). To arrive at an
appropriate strategy, policy makers would need to assess

In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 73, the speaker claims that through recognizing life s brevity,
love can be made stronger, and more permanent, by learning to appreciate the limited time each
person has left. Shakespeare establishes this argument by developing three metaphors comparing
a succinct amount of time to life. The first metaphor compares the seasons of a year to stages of
life. The second quatrain contains the next metaphor comparing the sun s journey across the sky
to the speaker s lifetime. And the final metaphor, found in the third quatrain, compares the glow
of a fire to a lifetime. Shakespeare s choice of applying shorter periods of time being compared to
the speaker s lifetime emphasizes the brevity of a person s life.

reminiscing about what he has lost and has yet to look towards what the future holds.
The speaker starts the second quatrain, again, telling the listener to witness in him the approach
of old age. The extended metaphor in the second quatrain compares the sun s journey across the
sky to the speaker s lifetime. The speaker tells the listener that they can see the twilight of such
day, as after sunset fadeth in the west , or the aging of the speaker after the brightness and
energy of his youth have started to fade just like the sun does as it approaches the end of its
journey. The speaker continues with which by and by black night doth take away , black night
signifying old age taking away what little remains of the speaker s youthfulness, and the eventual
passing away of the speaker. A shift in tone occurs here from somber to one of forlorn as the
speaker recognises that he will eventually die. The speaker finishes the metaphor by explicitly
saying the dark of night represents Death s second self, that seals all up in rest. Night in the
metaphor seals up all in eternal rest through death. The rhyme between day and away draws
attention to the number of days the speaker has left are diminishing. The image of the diminishing
number of days builds on the depressed tone already expressed in the quatrain by emphasizing the
certainty of

40. Rehearsal-Personal Narrative
It s the end of the season now. The weather outside is getting cold, the leaves are falling, and the
smell of winter is coming. After school I go to the auditorium for play rehearsal. We begin
discussing about what parts we each will be responsible for. I m not doing very much on the
stage in the beginning because I don t have a part assigned until a later time. To be honest it s
very boring when you don t have a part during a play rehearsal. We are taking a break and I began
contemplating the last cross country racewe had as a team.
Its 4 o clock in the evening and we are warming up for practice. Our coach talks to us for a couple
of minutes before we start running:

42. Argumentative Essay On Family Guy
Family Guy Created in 1999 by Seth MacFarlane, Family Guy is an adult animated cartoon,
commonly aired on FOX ( Family Guy ). Since its start, 269 episodes have been created; each
teetering on the edge of morality and ethics. It is true that Family Guy is a chat topping, clever,
and properly thought out cartoon; however, it s easy to discern the creator s common use of
inappropriate topics and remarks. Every episode is a new story into the craziness and chaos of the
town. This cartoon is about a small family living on Spooner Street in a made up town called
Quahog in Rhode Island. The characters include a dimwitted father, a desirable mother, a disgusting
son, a daughter who is often harassed by all, an intelligent, democratic dog, and a... Show more

people may view this as offensive, because John F Kennedy was a widely liked president who
was assassinated from a shot to the head back in the year 1963 ( John F. Kennedy ). Bobby
Kennedy was JFK s younger brother, was also shot to death five years later ( Robert F. Kennedy
). In another episode, Peter is on a boat, standing on a stage. He introduces Mr. Bruce Jenner.
Bruce Jenner walks out in shorts carrying a pink feather boa. He starts dancing for a group of
sailors, who are awestruck by the performance. This episode came out in 2011 ( Lottery Fever ),
while Bruce did not announce that he was going to transition to female until 2015 ( Caitlyn
Jenner ). Some would say that it pokes fun at the idea of being gay because it is still an arguable
topic. Lastly, there s a scene where Osama Bin Laden is trying to film a video to send to
Americans. He has a very serious attitude, and then starts laughing and grabs a rubber chicken. This
is incredibly offensive to most people, because Bin Laden helped with the planning of 9/11. Family
Guy has no restrictions on humor, and will use any horrible or disgusting event for their show.

times. The FCC is an agency that monitors radio and television, to make sure it s appropriate (

A literature review is a body of text that determines the aims to review the critical points of
current knowledge including substantive findings as well as theoretical and methodological
contributions to a particular topic. The review of relevant literature is nearly always a standard
chapter of a thesis or dissertation. The review forms an important chapter in a thesis where its
purpose is to provide the background to and justification for the research undertaken. Bruce , who

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there are 840,000 wrecks due
to blind spots. This feature alone will drastically reduce that number and ultimately save lives.
Another innovative feature this helmet provides is a HUD (Heads Up Display). This display
can provide the rider with a more interactive setting. Such as blinking dot when a vehicle is too
close and also when you might get cut off. The HUD can also display your current gear and
speed your traveling. This is very beneficial due to the fact that many drivers get complacent
behind the wheel and that usually leads to accident. With these three astonishing features the Ap

: What is the impact of China s one child policy on its economic growth over the years? This paper
will show that the standard econometric estimation conceals the takeoff effect and thus
underestimates the economic impact of demographic changes. In effect, the impact of China s one
child policy moved the timing of the economic take off by a decade. The original intent of the one
child policywas for economical purposes. The authorities envisioned reducing the demand of natural
resources, reducing the rate of exploitation, and reducing unemployment caused by surplus labor,
and maintaining a steady labor rate. 100 words

1. Introduction
At the start of China s economic reforms in late 1970s, the Chinese leadership established
population control as one of its main priorities. The post Mao leadership believed that China
population control was the key to ensure growth in per capita income. This led to the elevation of
the one child policy. The one child policy of China was the official family planning policy that was
aimed at controlling the population of China. The one child was introduced in 1979 mainly to help
in alleviating economic, social and environmental problems in China. It was estimated by
demographers that the policy helped avert about 200 million births between 1979 and 2009

49. Political Parties Disadvantages
A political party is an alliance of like minded people who work together to win elections and
control of the government. Political parties compete against one another for political power and for
the ability to put their philosophies and policies into effect. Political parties are therefore essential
institution in modern democratic politics. By definition, competitive party systems contain at least
two important parties, but they sometimes have many more. Hence, the simplest distinction to
make is between two party and multi party systems. Caribbean politics is typified by a two party
completion. Jamaica is the classic case of the British style two party model, it is the only country
in which two large parties competed under the first general election; in which there was a perfect
record of two party alternation in governmentbetween 1944 and 1980; and where third parties and
independent candidates never posed a challenge to the established parties namely Peoples National
party (PNP). The Jamaican system has been the best example of a two party system.
Advantage of competitive party system in Jamaica
It creates a linkage and shape democratic policy. This system shapes the electoral linkages between
citizen and policy makers / government. Moreover, parties are a means through which constitutional
arrangements developed and shape democratic policy making. These democratic policy making are
inclusive of constitutional reforms, new labor laws,

50. The Concept Of Fair Trade
In this essay, I will discuss the concept of Fair Trade, and what it means in regards to
globalization. More specifically, in this essay I will attempt to explore the potential of this
theory, in regards to how it addresses the exploitations and inequalities created by the current
system as addressed by certain authors. I also look to see if the concept of Fair Trade conforms
to the ideology of modernization as some scholars seem to believe. Finally, I look into the
application of this theory in the real world, and see if it reaches the potential that many believe it
is capable of. In order to discuss Fair Trade, one must first know what it is. In 2001, the FINE
Consensus (the initials of the FLO, the IFAT, NEWS!, and the EFTA) defined Free Trade
as, ..[A]
trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, which seeks greater equity in
international trade. (FINE Consensus 2001) What stunned me is the fact that this is considered a
revolutionary idea. Instead, the narrative now is much closer to the idea of neo liberalism. Neo
liberals draw their beliefs from many classical economic thinkers, such as Adam Smith. What Smith
believed was best for the market was for there to be very little interference by the government, and
to allow the invisible hand of the individual consumer determine the outcome. John Bishop states
the argument as such: The invisible hand of the market will transform the individual s pursuit of
gain into the general utility of society.

Making sense of the sciences is important to being able to use their mind and convey their
emotions. Using one language to convey these feelings is important to not only a person s
personal growth but the emotional growth. Having emotional growth gives the person an
opportunity to help others achieve their own emotional maturity. Although some do not achieve
this maturity, they will attempt to achieve this maturity at some level in their lives. Comte s
theories were seen as a type of new religious experience. Comte also founded the social sciences,
and it is important to remember in our more cynical times the ideals to which they aspired.
Comte and other early social scientists assumed that human behavior must obey laws just as strict
as Newton s laws of motion, and that if we could discover them, we could eliminate moral evils in
exactly the same way that medical scientists were then discovering how diseases worked and were
eliminating much of the physical suffering which had always been an inevitable part of the human
condition (victorianweb.org). Seeing suffering as routine, Comte gives the sense that he has seen a
lot of suffering in his life and does not internalize this because it is an every day occurrence.
Treating trauma as this makes Comte seem detached from the reality of suffering. Positivism has
had it share of stereo types. Positivists

54. Disadvantages Of Americanization
Although America was able to gain much political power through its ever growing economy there
were many social costs during the process of growth and wealth creation, which are the negative
and undesirable effects of large US corporations (Galambos, 933). One disadvantage of the
American corporate system is the tendency towards monopolization within the market (Galambos,
933). This, in turn, will create oligopolies within industries and thus there will be little chance or
incentive for competition (Galambos, 937 38). Little plurality of firms dominating the economy is
problematic as economic power is so closely tied to political power (Galambos, 937 38). Now, in
an international framework, as a nation, it is quite arguable why this would be... Show more content

has successfully adopted parts of the American style corporate structure, it has hybridized them with
socialist values and features (44). European states have been selective in the process of doing so in
order for the system to work successfully within national preconditions and at the same time

55. As I Lay Dying Language Analysis
In As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner effectively uses linguistic abnormalities to challenge the
potency of language. This produces an overarching idea on the cyclic nature of mortality and its
ultimate nihilistic significance. To unite these otherwise restricted concepts, the novel requires an
unusual relationship between its characters and the author. This relationship is only complicated by
the delicate nature of mortality. Thus, Faulkner antagonizes the limitations of language and
challenges words to convey more significance than their flat definitions. Faulkner overcomes the
boundaries of language by stream of consciousness. This allows him to encompass contemporary
artistry and cultural phenomena. Therefore, the novels unique construction... Show more content on

Its linguistic complexities seem unnecessary and flawed. This effect is produced because of the
novel s twisted humor and structures such as unexplained italicized paragraphs, a pictogram of a
coffin (Faulkner 88), sporadic punctuation, and a line of blank space (Faulkner 173). These
things make the novel seem chaotic and even contradictory. Regardless of its complexity, these
linguistic abnormalities are necessary to explicate the novel s purpose: the insignificance of life
and death. This attitude is apparent only because of stream of consciousness, artistry, and cultural
diction. Stream of consciousness unifies the narrators and the author. This change in scope
produces a more intimate understanding of each character. For example, it allows for Addie s
postmortem narration. Thus, stream of consciousness operates as a fundamental platform for the
novel s purpose. Similarly, the surrealist and cubist point of view heightens the dark comedy of
mortality. The unification of these two perspectives the symmetry of cubism and the cynical
surrealism creates Dewey Dell: the mirror and product of Addie s suppressed station. Just as
Addie never wanted her children, Dewey Dell attempts to have an abortion. Upon Addie s death,
the novel s dark humor comes full circle: Dewey Dell is made a motherless mother and left a
child with child. This cynical creation is only possible because of the reader s context in cubism and
