At first glance, the Malbim would seem to object to the government s ban to FGM.
The Malbim argues that individual freedoms are greater than societal needs. Each
individual must pursue his/her goal of fulfilling the divine purpose, the elevation
of the physical through the spiritual. This can be done through the pursuit of self

according to the Malbim, should help individuals reach moral perfection by giving

As observed by the Journal of American College Health and Rivero, E.M. et al
(2014), 90% of all individuals who die by suicide ... have a diagnosable psychiatric

Visual culture describes the aspects, things and objects, in our world made to be
looked at. It is most often associated with art however could include advertisements,

The carving is a representation of a she devil urinating on a cardinal, pope, and a
king. This is an example of visual culture as its purpose is to be viewed. This carving
dates back to the early 13th century before the new technologies of vision. With the
introduction of photography, television and social media coupled with the boom of
consumerism, contemporary visual culture was born.
Contemporary visual culture involves an extremely broad range of mediums due to
the technology at hand today. With computer technology, artists are capable of
manipulating and creating images in ways that were once inconceivable. Figure 2
was made digitally in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop . This image demonstrates

Reality Television is a relatively new phenomenon that has exploded over the last
several years. Whether it has to do with an extreme makeover or finding the
supposed love of your life, reality television has given us the opportunity to become
voyeurs in others lives. Approximately, 50% of television audiences are watching
reality shows (Webster University). Long gone are the days of whole television
programs. Today, most reality shows depict women as an object, only defined and

teenage girls. This matters because it can lead to the sexualization of young girls.
The greater the exposure to reality television, the higher the sexualization of young
girls. These findings can be of interest to TV programming executives, who may
change their business strategy as a result of our findings. This research differs from
the past in that it focuses solely on girls and not the differences that arise between
girls and boys in reality television viewing.
Problem of Practice: The sexualization of women in many of today s reality shows
leads to a negative effect on young girls. How girls learn about their value and

My most recent series of paintings, Society s Reflection, deals with religious
stereotypes. Starting with six traditional religious figures, I alter their appearance in
ways society wouldn t expect such as adding tattoos, piercings, or including a
transgender figure. This allows me to break up stereotypes and reflect the true

Income equality has been on a steady rise since 1970 in both the United States and
Europe. Over the past several years, many researchers, such as Thomas Piketty and
Emmanuel Saez have been conducting and publishing empirical studies which
indicate that economic inequality is growing in wealthy countries, like those in
Europe and the United States. In fact, according to a graph published in Piketty and
Saez s study Inequality in the Long Run, both the United States and Europe s income
and wealth inequality generally decreased from 1900 1970, and then started
increasing in the time period after that. The results of this study suggest that social
classdifferences may be growing in the long run. This paper will examine this graph
from the perspectives of both Adam Smith and Karl Marx. Using Marx and Smith s
findings in German Ideology and Wealth of Nations, this paper will discuss Marx and
Smith s main theories on capitalismand describe how these theories can be applied to

William Butler Yeats Never Give All The Heart is about vulnerability, love, and
blame. It warns of both the fickleness of women and that if one loves in an
overbearing manner it will actually be detrimental. Yeats personal inspiration for the
poem was likely Maud Gonne, a woman whom he proposed to four times, who
rejected him all four times and then proceeded to marry someone else. The poem
begins in a manner suggestive of a lover scorned. Yeats talks about how passionate

Yeats also uses the word dumb, which in context likely means unable to speak, but
also carries a connotation of being incapable of intelligent thought. Entering a heart
into the game of love will damage the heart s owner on multiple levels. Yeats then
references himself, as he who has already given his heart up to the game and lost
miserably. He knows the pain and the loss that giving up one s heart to someone who
does not want the whole heart brings. In fact, he was later quoted as saying, [about
his first marriage proposal] that was when the troubling in my life began. He gave his
whole heart to this woman and she didn t want it. Now, to his credit, Yeats isn t
saying giving any heart is terrible. He is simply stating that giving the entirety of
one s heart is more likely to come off as overeager and overbearing than romantic.
Towards the end of the poem, he isn t blaming the woman as much, he is accepting
the gamble that love is.
The structure of this poem is rather notable. It mimics the structure of a Clare sonnet,
fourteen lines, iambic pentameter, AABBCCDDEEFFGG rhyme scheme. Both
Italian and Shakespearean sonnets tended to be love poems. However, the Clare
sonnet doesn t quite fit properly with either, it s a touch more simplistic in nature,
which lends this poem something akin to irony. This poem isn t simply a love poem,

The novel Uncle Tom s Cabin, written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, depicts an Anti
Slavery view as the author tells the story of a slave named Uncle Tom and the
different journeys he takes showing readers how harsh and cruel the slave life was.
In this book the main characters are Uncle Tom, Eliza and George Harris. Although
this book is not non fiction it is truly based on various events that actually took place
in southern history.
Uncle Tom s Cabin takes place in Mississippi and Kentucky in the late 1800s right
after the civil war based on Uncle Tom who was a very obedient slave who followed

From the very beginning of this novel I admired the main character Uncle Tom in
various ways, but by the very end of the story Uncle Tom became my hero. As author
Harriet Beecher Stowe illustrates the events that takes place in Uncle Tom s life he
reacted with God in his heart. When Stowe walked readers through each stage of
his life as a slave being passed on to owner after owner, readers were given a clearer
and better understanding of the African American slaves struggle. As Stowe
narrates the description of the way the slaves were treated I was truly affected and
with each description my feelings of hurt grew deeper and deeper. I realized in
reading Uncle Tom s Cabin that he was a strong but yet so gentle individual and I
