A rite of passage is a public ceremony that marks, recognizes, celebrates or is
believed to actually cause a change in a person and her or his status, usually brought
about or related to increasing age (Peoples, Bailey). Almost every culture has rituals
that signal a change in life. Marriage is one of the most common rites of passage in
any culture. Weddings and marriage ceremonies are clear transitions from
adolescence to adulthood. Some form of marriage is known to have existed in all
human societies. Its traditional function in most of these societies has been to
stabilize sexual relations and to unite a man and a woman in order to provide care
for the young. In addition, marriage has linked and allowed for economic
exchanges between different kin groups and has served as the primary coming of
age ritual for women (Nelson). In America we are known for throwing lavish
ceremonies and expensive parties to celebrate the union between two people. I ve
attended quite a few weddings and participated in one during my lifetime thus far.
Most weddings in the American culture follow the same itinerary.
Before a wedding ceremony is thought of or takes place the couple preparing for
marriage usually separate from their families and begin to make a home together.

Henry Ford introduced his Model T in 1908, which astounded the public due to its
simplicity and reliability, according to History.com. While the Model T was
inexpensive, Ford didn t find his product to be as inexpensive as he wanted. Ford
challenged himself to find a way to make his dream of supplying the whole nation
with affordable cars a reality. Ford realized that he must change his methods of
production in order to decrease the price of his automobiles. His invention of the
assembly line actually started before the Model T came out, but Ford did not
know it at the time. The Model N was built prior to the Model T. The workers on
the Model N automobiles placed the parts in order along the floor while the under
construction auto was on skids and moved down the line. The workers placed their
respective parts on the machine as it passed by. For the Model T, Ford tried to
make his process even better. He broke the assembly process into 84 small steps.
On top of this, workers were trained for only one of the 84 steps. By having a
machine that could make interchangeable parts faster than any human, the process
accelerated quickly and there was no shortage on supplies. With the combination of
the new parts machine, line of workers trained per step, and an order of parts, the

Introduction As human beings, we all have our own values, beliefs, and attitudes.
These things develop over the course of our lifetime and at any point can change
based on an experience that we may have. Our family, friends, community and the

This study investigates the effects of high hydrostatic pressure processing (HPP)
treatments (200 600 MPa) of eight different lamb cuts on lipid oxidation, fatty acid
and free amino acid content. In general, the eye of loin, flat, heel and tenderloin cuts
treated between 400 and 600MPa had higher oxidation values exceeding 0.5 mg
MDA/kg. Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids content were lower in HPP
treatment of almost all cuts (except rump and heel cuts) at all pressures.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids content was lower in HPP treated inside, knuckle, and
tenderloin cuts at 600 MPa compared to control. Nine essential and 8 non essential

When I first read these lines, I was shocked. The gods in Lewis novel represent the
Christian God. Furthermore justice is considered, by Christians, to be a cardinal
virtue. It made no sense that Lewis, a devout Anglican, would imply that God was
not just. I began to wonder: What is justice that could possibly make it a quality
separate from the divine attributes of God? I then realized that justiceis only ever
ethical, when paired with mercy. An eye for an eye, despite being just, is considered
by most everyone to be immoral and cruel. Justice in and of itself is not a virtue, but
rather, when joined with mercy, becomes capable of promoting goodness.
In his memoir Just Mercy, Bryan Stevenson shares his experiences with justice and
mercy or the lack there of; be these experiences his own, or the experiences of
others which he has witnessed. Unfortunately, because of the color of their skin or
their social standing, Stevenson and his clients are often treated with a justice
rendered from mercy. An example of this is when the two police officers accosted
Stevenson. Had they been calm and clearly expressed that there were concerns of
burglary in the area, they could have peacefully come to the conclusion that
Stevenson was no threat. Instead one of the officers immediately drew his gun which
lead to a hostile treatment of Stevenson, a cruel violation of his rights, and, when the
officers rummaged through his files, an unlawful breaking of attorney client privilege.

The Role Of Socioeconomic Status And Behavior As...
As a native born African Ghanaian, I have lived in an underserved community in
Ghana where there is a disproportionate burden of disease, so I understand the role of
socioeconomic status and behavior as determinants of health. This inspires me to
pursue a career in public health where I can help to control epidemics in Africa and
other underserved communities worldwide.
My career interest is to work in conjunction with non profit organizations to research
the etiology of diseases, distribution, and preventive measures, and to increase public
awareness through health education. My ultimate goal is to team up with health
professionals and policy makers to help eliminate health disparities in the world.
Based on the knowledge and experience I intend to gain, I am very optimistic that I
will be able to make rational proposals and write grants that will improve health
policies and interventions.
My interest in disease prevention and control motivated me to study Public Health as
my undergraduate program at Temple University. During my undergraduate course
work, I developed a great interest in the field of epidemiology due to a strong passion
for health related research. My research area of interest is to analyze and simplify the
mechanism of the pathogenesis of hypertension and other vascular abnormalities
affecting minority populations, particularly African Americans. I am interested in

Electronic Surveillance And Its Historical Context
The first part of this paper framed FISA in its historical context. The 1978 Act
initially enacted dealt only with electronic surveillance. It provided a statutory
framework for collection of foreign intelligence information through the use of
electronic surveillance of communications of foreign powers or agents of foreign
powers. However, the Congress amended the act in 1995 and 1999 to provide a
statutory framework for gathering foreign intelligence information through the use
of electronic surveillance, physical searches, pen registers or trap and trace
devices, access to business records and other tangible things. In sum, FISA grants
broader authority than the Crime Control Act, but under a narrower range of
circumstances. To limit the abuse of the Executive power that led to its passage,
FISA also established the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Courts (FISC). The
FISC requires the government to submit an application to obtain a surveillance
warrant to a specially appointed FISA judge. Moreover, since the FISA warrant is
secret, the government in order to benefit from this higher level of secrecy bears a

Introduction: How d He Do That? Recognizing patterns can make reading easier by
helping me comprehend what it is that I am reading. Memory. Symbol. Pattern.
These are the three items that, more than any other, separate the professional
reader from the rest of the crowd. (Foster xxvii). When I recognize the patterns that
the author used when writing, I am able to better understand the structure of the
chapter, the plot of the story, the point of view of all the characters and the
language used. A time when my appreciation for a literary work was enhanced by
my understanding of a symbol or pattern was when I was reading Shakespeare s
Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare wrote in iambic pentameter whenever a character
of a higher class spoke. It was easier to understand and keep track of who is who
when I understand if what I was reading had a meter or not. It made it easier to
decipher whether the prince was talking or a servant was. Also, recognizing the
pattern of Romeo and Juliet finishing each other s sentences in iambic pentameter

In the essence we see Bram Stoker s character search for his gothic novel and he
makes the perfect choice: Vlad III, the prince of Wallachia, an area now within the
borders of Romania, the southern part to be specific. Vlad III, known as Vlad the
Impaler, had fought with the Ottoman Turks in the name of the church, who were
expanding into the Balkans. During his fights with the Turks, he lost his throne
several times but each time managing to get back onto it. It is mostly believed that
he had fallen dead in a fight with the Ottoman army, beheaded and his head taken
back to Istanbul, to the Sultan as a proof that the quot;impaler quot; was dead. He
was also known with his atrocities and impalement where the victim was impaled
between the legs with a large, sharpened but not too much stake that was the width

An epic poem takes readers into the world of ancient civilizations and reflects the

The topic of this experiment is Density. The objective is to find two ways in which
the density of a given object can be determined, and to find out which of the two
ways is more accurate and hence better to use in such a case. The two methods used
in this experiment are finding the dimensions of the object and water displacement.
These are two ways of finding the volume of an object, and they were chosen since
the density of an object may be found using its mass and its volume. The experiment
yielded two different density values, however when error analysis was conducted, the
water displacement method was proven to be more accurate.

Americans equal civil rights. The 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were created, but
the black codes denied legal rights to African Americans. The black codes eventually

amendments were created for equality, African Americans were discriminated against
and many groups were created to participate in the Civil Rights Movement. The most

This distinctive book called, Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, is one
of very few exquisite readings I ve completed so far. Daniel Kahneman is a
psychologist in Princeton University, and due to his research, he won a Nobel
Prize in 2002 in economics. In the beginning of his book, he speaks of our
cognitive System 1 and System 2 ways of thinking. System 1 generates feelings,
impressions, and memory. It is very instinctive, automatic, and is considered quick
thinking. System 2 on the other hand, is alert during complex problem solving,
while dealing with facts and knowledge, and is attentive while working with
difficult calculations. For example, a problem such as 24 x 13, this takes more time

In the United States, robot assisted surgery currently is performed at more than 2000
hospitals. Growth in hospital ownership of robotic systems parallels the increase in
the volume of robotic assisted procedures, which is in excess of 25% annually [1,3].
This growth has been driven by multiple factors: surgeons preference, patient
attraction to new technology, industry pressures, and marketing efforts of hospitals
