Jet Blue and West Jet Essay
JET BLUE AND WESTJET: A tale of two IS projects
1. How important is the reservation systems at airlines such as WestJet and JetBlue. How does it
impact operational activities and decision making?
Over the past years, customers have been heavily relying on airline reservation systems to book
their tickets, reserve seats, pay for the tickets and also check in online. For customers, this has been
a very convenient method and they are able to easily plan their trips. For the Airline companies,
these systems have the whole flight inventory managed. They have all the flight information stored
and records are maintained. It also provides a platform for communication between other airline
companies for their code sharing plans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
WestJet faces the risk of losing many of their customers due to their system crashes and delays.
This benefits their competitors and hence a lot of revenue is lost in this process. WestJet also
spent a lot of money for testing the system and training the employees well in advance however
there was a high risk of damaging the brand name since other surrounding issues such as website
crashes made customers angry and brought a bad reputation. After seeing what happened to
WestJet, JetBlue faced a similar risk of losing customers during the upgrade system however they
had to incur costs to build up a back up site. There s always a risk when customers don t like the
upgraded system. It raises many questions; What if the customers prefer the older system? Big
losses can occur. However, on the other side the upgrade can be efficient and if it works better than
the previous version, it can lead to attract more customers. 3. Classify and describe the problems
each airline faced in implementing its new reservation system. What people, organization, and
technology factors caused those problems?
WestJet faced problems in transferring files containing data on transactions for customers who had
already purchased their tickets before the system upgrade. They could not access the passenger
bookings and this caused delays because it took time to transfer the files. Another problem they
faced was angry customers who flooded their site and

Rise And Fall Of Justinian Essay
The Rise and fall of Justinian
By: Aaron McCollum
Justinian s Rise and Fall Justinian began his rule in A.D. 527 to 565. (History.com Staff Empire
under Justinian ) One Justinian s greatest accomplishment was the code of Justinian which was a
set of reformed laws that the entire empire had to rule by and was a stepping stone for many laws
created later in history. During Justinian s rule he had a hunger for reclaiming the lost land that
once belonged to his Empire and as such he reclaimed many of them through war and trade. As a
consequence this later brought high taxes upon the people of the Byzantine Empire. The fall of
Byzantine was a slow and gradual one. Over many years the wares of conquest and what seemed to
be a fate of unlucky turns of events brought Byzantine to its knees and eventually to its death.

The Role Of Australian Securities And Investments Commission
Introduction
There are several things to consider when forming and operating a business. In Australia, laws
established by the Australian Government govern businesses. There are regulators to business and
also there are market exchanges that require strict adherence to different regulations in order for
organisations to participate.
In this report, we will examine the procedures required by the Corporations Act 2001 in order to
establish a small proprietary business. We will also examine the role of the Australian Securities
Exchange in society and what is required for a company to have its shares listed on the Exchange.
Finally, we will examine the role the Australian Securities and Investments commission has in
regulating company behavior.
Establishing a Small Proprietary Business
When it comes to open a new business, small or bigger, it has to follow determined rules and laws
described in the Corporations Act 2001.
Those rules relate to all different aspects of the business: directors, secretaries, type, number and
price of shares and it is necessary to fill an application form that will be sent to ASIC (Australian
Securities and Investments Commission).
The first thing that has to be decided is if the company will be limited or not by shares. This means
that the members will have to cover with their private funds and assets the company s liability.
The company will have at least one member and maximum 50 shareholders. It is important that a

Examples Of Contingency Approach To Management
The contingency approach to management holds that management techniques should be dependent
upon the circumstances. From this paper, you will learn what the contingency approach to
management is and the key elements of contingency management. Information in depth was
gathered from books, course texts and various reviews and articles.
There are many definitions of leadership. According to The Collins English dictionary defines
leadership as the leader(s) of a party or group. A leader can be anybody; he/she can be the CEO of
an organization, or a first year employee. A leader has the ability to lead through official authority
and power, as often, great leaders lead through inspiring the followers, through personal connection

Although, this theory s weaknesses are the fact that it is cumbersome to use, as it does not
explain what to do when there is a mismatch between style and situation and it does not take into
account situational variables, which also have an impact in a leader s effectiveness. However, it
is used to help management choose suitable leaders for each work group type. Although, there are
doubts on whether the Least Preferred Co worker scale is a true measure of leadership style and
the leadership style lacks flexibility. A major contribution of Fielder s work is that it has prompted
others to conduct studies about the contingency nature of leadership. The model has also alerted
leaders to the importance of sizing up the situation to gain control. A major problem centers on
matching the situation to the leader (Andrew J. p.142). In most situations, the amount of control
the leader exercise varies from time to time (Andrew J.

Essay Analysis of Norman Bates
The character I chose to analyze is Norman Bates. Norman Bates originated as the main character
in Alfred Hitchcock s movie Psycho . In the movie Psycho , Norman is a middle aged who runs
a motel. He is a psychotic serial killer with many psychological issues. More recently Norman
Bates became the main character in a television show called Bates Motel. In the show, we see
Norman in his teenage years. This is where we see Norman s psychological issues begin to
develop. As a teenage Norman, we also get to see more of Norman s relationship with his mother.
When Bates Motel begins, Norman seems to be a normal teenage boy, who is a bit of an
introvert. He prefers school work and reading to going out and being social. He has an extremely...

Then we see Norman go a little crazy. She kills a man, stabbing him several times after he
attempts to rape her. Norman sees it and helps his mom cover it up. We see him as he begins to
black out and can see him change. Norman also seems to hallucinate while in these black outs or
fugue states. He sees his mom who tells him while he is in this state that everything is his fault
and he needs to fix it. However in the process he gets woken up. His mom then asks what he is
doing and he tells her he is doing what she told him to do. She says that she did not tell him to do
that. She then realizes that Norman is having blackout episodes but protects him instead of
getting him help. Norman can not remember anything from his fugue states. Later we learn that
Norman killed his dad. His dad was fighting with Norma and it was getting physical. Norman was
washing dishes and blacks out and then hits his dad over the head killing him. Norma is
shocked and then tells Norman to go to his room, as he is still out of it and he goes to his room.
That is when Norma moves the body to the garage and sets it up like he died from an accident.
She protects Norman. After Norman wakes up from the black out, he finds his dad and does not
remember anything. He believes his dad fell and hit his head. He thought it was an accident, later
on in the show he starts to suspect his mother of killing his father. At this time Norman is also

Saving the Ballona Wetlands Essay
Before development exploded in California, the state contained about 5 million acres of wetland
habitat. Unfortunately, over the years California has been willing to part with 91 percent of its

Maguire partners (now Playa Capital) to develop two thirds of the land with the DreamWorks
Playa Vista project. One third is to be saved and will undergo a restoration project headed by
Playa Capital. Playa Capital has agreed to provide for 297 acres of wetland and surrounding area,
in exchange for the right to develop the rest of the land. They have promised to manage and
maintain these 297 acres of land to function as a natural wetland. They have donated $12.5 million
for a restoration fund they say will not be used as mitigation by Playa Capital.
With all the restoration and funding being put into Ballona, there are still many environmental
groups that are adamantly opposed to the settlement and prefer to save all of Ballona s acreage.
These groups consist of the Ballona Ecosystem Education Project, the Sierra Club Ballona Task

detrimental harm to the wetland and surrounding community. If completed, the DreamWorks

After Effects Of Volcanoes Research Paper
Unlike other volcanoes, the eruption of composite volcanoes is unique. The eruption of the
composite volcano is known to be very explosive because the amount of pressure tends to build
up. That is why the composite volcano is known as the deadliest volcano. Therefore, when the
volcano explodes all of the pressure is released causing the results to be destructive. After there is
no more volcanic activity, or when the volcanois dormant, erosion will start wearing the cone
down. The main cone is worn down to reveal the hard lavaneck inside the conduit after thousands
of years. After more eruption, the volcanic neck , which is the result of erosion, abolishes any
remnants of the cone. Another after effect of eruptions is the formation of a caldera. A caldera
is formed when volcanoes disintegrate. In addition, they vary in shape and size depending on the
size of the original volcano. Usually, the location of a caldera is a sign of a new composite volcano.
An example of a caldera formed by a composite volcano is Crater Lake in Oregon.... Show more

The magma is known to block the vents of the volcano, so that is why the eruption is hazardous.

Default Risk And The Ways Of Identifying It Essay
Default Risk and the ways of identifying it in corporate bond market
Introduction
In bond market, there are a number of bonds offered for investors to purchase such as Treasury
bonds, municipal bonds, mortgage securities and so on. Among these various bonds, one particular
kind of bond is the corporate bond which attracts a wide range of investors with their higher return.
However, there are no free lunches in financial market. Being accompanied by the high yield, the
corporate bond investors have to face higher default risk which is the risk that the issuer will
default on its debt obligation in bond market. Especially after the 2008 crisis crunch in which vast
amounts of debt default occurred, an increasing number of investors realize the significance of
identifying the default risk in the bond investments. This essay will first consider the reason why
investors ought to recognize the default risk and secondly, will explore the different ways in which
investors can identify the default risk of corporate bonds.
Importance of recognizing default risk
In bond market, one important indicator of distinguishing the different bonds is the degree of
default risk. A good example of this is Treasury bonds and corporate bonds. These two bonds are
similar in the structure of coupon payment and the principal return, however, Treasury bonds
generally may be viewed as the free of default risk as we all know the government would not go
bankruptcy easily, which is a good option for

African American Freedom And Injustice
The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without restraint, is what we know today as
Freedom. While an unjust act or occurrence is implied as Injustice. These two terms are examples
of the issues that many African Americans face daily in America. Freedom and Injustice could be
combined to define the term of Slavery. Slavery in America began when the first African slaves
were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, to aid in the
production of such lucrative crops as tobacco. It was practiced throughout the American colonies in
the 17th and 18th centuries, and African American slaves helped build the economic foundations of
the new nation. Slavery was ultimately outlawed and laws prohibiting discrimination against
African Americans passed, racismagainst this community remains and is manifested in more subtle
ways today. The song Be Free is a response to the accident of African Americanteen, Mike Brown,
who was shot by a police officer due to the color of his skin. J. Cole was moved by the event, and
instead of ignoring it, he uses his power to voice his feelings and thoughts of the issue that has
been present in the world for Decades. Cole s song punctuated what was already a strong reaction

Features Of Cubism And How It Represented Through The...
Between the nineteenth and twentieth century, with the development of new technology diverse
new art style was defined by artists in various genres such as architect, painter and poet. Especially,
in the beginning of the twentieth century in Europe, an avangarde art movement had started and
spread rapidly across the world. The movement was called Cubism, which was described as the
most innovative and influential visual art style at that time, because the idea of Cubism was aside
from a fixed idea of realism after the Renaissance and it has opened a new era of art. Accordingly,
nowadays, some people said that the art of the twentieth century would be totally different without
effect of Cubism. This essay will explain the feature of cubism and how it represented through the
artwork of cubist.
First of all, one of the characteristics of Cubism is that the cubist made a painting from diverse
view points. Instead of looking at one side of the object, changed viewpoint differently.
Accordingly, the cubist artworks are expressed the plurality of view than the one point perspective
to the screen perspective. Andrew Glassner also wrote that Cubist painters explored the process of
creating images from multiple, simultaneous points of view and Erika Gonzaiez claim that Cubism
involved looking at the same object from a variety of different perspectives and showing all these
perspectives at the exact same time . At the same time, the cubist painters ignored the idea that

Analysis of A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor
In Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard To Find, one is struck by the unexpected violence at
the end of the story. However, if you re read the story a second time, you will see definite signs that
foreshadow the grotesque ending. The story begins with the typical nuclear family being challenged
by the grandmother who doesn t want to take the vacation to Florida. She has read about a crazed
killer by the name of the Misfit who is on the run heading for Florida. Unfortunately, she is
ignored by every member of the family except for the little girl, June Star, who can read the
grandmother like an open book. The fact that she admonishes Bailey, her son, of this Misfit... Show

A strong foreshadowing imagery can be read into these lines. Knowing the definite ending of the
story, the grandmother?s elaborate dress symbolizes a preparation for her coffin. When a person
dies, they usually are dressed in their best outfit, just like the grandmother was dressed in what
seemed to be her Sunday best. A stronger foreshadowing is when O?Connor states the reason for
the grandmother?s immaculate dress, in case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the
highway would know at once that she was a lady. She herself predicts her own death.
Unfortunately, she doesn?t know this yet. Although this is beyond the parameters of this essay, it
is interesting that in the grandmother s mind wearing her best clothes prevent any misgivings
about her status as a lady IF she was to die. But as the Misfit later points out, there never was a
body that gave the undertaker a tip. The grandmother s perceived readiness for death is a stark
contrast to her behavior when she encounters the Misfit; for she shows herself to be the least
prepared for death.
As the trip progresses, the children reveal themselves as funny, spoiled brats. O Connor s desire to
illustrate the lost respect for the family and elders among the young is quite apparent in her
illustrations of the children. One evidently notices another foreshadowing image when the family

EBSCO provided me with 27 different articles. I found one that would work perfectly for my

Nuclear Waste Research Paper
Nuclear fuel has been providing energy to the world for around sixty years, and it is the second
most used energy source, first being fossil fuels. Nuclear energy is closely chained to the
invention of the atomic bomb and is in fact, nuclear fission and/or fusion. The problem with
nuclear energy is that while it can provide energy without air pollutants, there is nowhere to put
the radioactive nuclear waste. With the spent nuclear fuel, we currently dump it in places
relatively far from people or we reprocess it. However there is more to that than meets the eye.
Dumping is not the best method for dealing with nuclear waste, the best way is to reprocess the
nuclear waste because it recovers a portion of reusable energy that can be recycled back into the
plant, recovers fuel that can be reused for other purposes and also helps reduce the effects on the
environment.
The reusable energy that is recovered may not feel like much, however once you reprocess tons
and tons of nuclear waste it adds up to an enormous amount of saved waste. When reprocessing the
nuclear waste, they add a variety of different substances at different times such as acids and

T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land
T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land The Most Influential Work in Modern Literature
T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land is considered by many to be the most influential work in modern
literature. First published in 1922, it captures the feelings and sentiments of modern culture after
World War I. Line thirty of The Waste Land, I will show you fear in a handful of dust, is often
viewed as a symbol of mankind s fear of death and resulting love of life. Eliot s masterpiece with
its revolutionary ideas inspired writers of his era, and it continues to affect writers even today.

of Mary, Ade is forced to leave the mission. A few weeks later, Santigie must also return home
after the death of his father, Chief Bombolai. The Brothers Three, seemingly separated forever,
are not appreciating life more than they did before. Each boy is dead to the others; none of them
believe they will ever see each other again. After several months, however, the Brothers Three are
reunited. They promise to always stay together, and each boy has an optimistic outlook on life again.
Eliot s own pessimism toward life amid the destruction of World War I is evident throughout
most of the poem. He uses many dark images to suggest death and brokenness, but Eliot contrasts
those depictions with pictures of life and energy. In the second stanza of section one, Eliot
vividly describes a desert wasteland. A few lines later in the same stanza, he depicts a young

death are mirrored in the final pages of No Past No Present No Future. Ade and Bodil move

dissolve the outer shell of a raw egg. This experiement required six household items: two bowls,
two eggs, vinegar, and water. The question that evolved was, what happens to an eggsubmerged in
vinegar (acid) vs. water (neutral)?
My hypothesis is that there will be a chemical reaction to the egg as result of the vinegar however
the egg in water will remain the same. I think this because vinegar is an acid, about 4% acetic acid,
and acids have the ability to break down certain subtances through a chemical reaction. Water is a
neutral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then place the other egg into a bowl and cover that egg with water. From this point, daily
observation as well as photographing the eggs took place monitoring for any changes to the egg
s shell. The fourth and final step was to drain the liquids, rinse each egg with water and observe
for any visible changes. My independent variable was the type of liquid used, my controlled
variable was the same time of day in the same amount of liquid, and my dependant variable was
the time (days) in the liquid. Observing the results, I could see that the water egg remained the
same as predicted. The shell on the vinegar egg had fully dissolved leaving a translucent appearing
egg intact in only the membrane of the egg. Based on everything I ve done as well as researched
regarding this experiement, I can conclude that the vinegar dissolved the shell due to the acid of the
vinegar breaking down the calcium carbonate in the egg shell constantly until it reaches the thin,
clear membrane that the vinegar cannot break down.
This chemical reaction produced carbon dioxide gas resulting in fizz formation and after 4 days in
the solution, this reaction dissolved the entire egg shell. You see the same type of reaction when

Tuesday s Lecture Analysis
This week s seminar started with the disappointment about the Tuesday s lecture with Faith Austin
being cancelled. We commented and discussed about it with Daisy, that informed us about Austin
being ill. After numerous propositions from my colleagues to have the lecture at the end of the
term, the teacher claimed that she will do her best so we can manage to have the lecture about
Production and Stage management. After that, together as a whole group we talked about the
recent news, including Bristol funding cuts for arts increasing, The Faction and their website
(following Mark Leipacher s lecture from 31/01/2017). In addition, we talked about the different
ways to stay informed and be aware of the latest theatrenews, following websites like... Show more

The topic was playwrights, and Daisy asked us our favourite playwright. They were all varied,
from Sophocles, to Lorca or Sarah Kane. What I learned about Sophocles from the lecture was the
amount of plays he wrote (around 120), and that only 7 remain complete: Electra, Oedipus Rex,
Ajax, Antigone, Philoctetes, The women of Trachis and Oedipus at Colonus, that was very
interesting unknown information that I received. In addition, another interesting fact that I
learned was that Sophocles introduced the third actor and the concept of Skenographia (scenery
painting). Another playwright mentioned was Tom Stoppard with plays like Arcadia or R and G
are dead, crucial to make himself known. Federico Garcia Lorca was also mentioned, a Spanish
playwright and poet that I already knew, but interesting to hear that other people from the seminar
class share the love for him. Willy Russell with Blood Brothers, was another playwright named, it
was the first time to hear it. In addition, it was the first time to hear about Arthur Miller, with plays
like The Crucible, The Death of a Salesman or Tragic Hero. Samuel Becket was definitely a well
known name, and we talked about how different is Waiting for Godot. In contrast to the last
statement, Alan Bennett is a playwright that I discovered in this seminar, with

Change. No one wants to accept it; no one wants to live with it. Why is it? Is it because we lack
the willingness to change ourselves or is it because we don t want it? None of it, it is mainly
because we fear change. But the fact is we can t stop it from happening. We either adapt to change,
or we get left behind. But here s the fun fact: Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay
the same. And sometimes, change is excellent. Sometimes, change is everything we want. Its funny
how things appear the same every passing day but when we look back, many things have changed!
To perform a Greek dramawe need three things; they are audience, performers and something to
perform. I must exclaim that it is the same with modern theatre. All the three elements are required
today also. So does it means nothing has changed in past twenty five hundred years? I don t think
so. From presentation of a particular subject to the elitism in the drama, everything has changed
over period of time.
I choose to write about the transformation in status of women from Greek drama to Victorian Era
because it is a form of triumph. Along with progress in field of science and technology, the
inevitable revolution in the field of literature shouldn t be disregarded. In Prometheus Bound, the
character of Io is very destitute and desolated. Where as, Mrs. Erlynne is portrayed as an
autonomous and liberated woman. It s not the drama that has strained the writers to inscribe
particular response for the

Short Essay On Amelia Earhart
The Lockheed air ship carrying American pilot Amelia Earhart and guide Frederick Noonan is
reported missing on July 2, 1937. Earhart s round the world flight was cut short when her
Lockheed Electra disappeared over the Pacific Ocean.
She was born in Atchison, Kansas 1897. One year her and her family went on a Christmas vacation
to visit her sister in Toronto, 1917. During this vacation, a pilot flew his plane near her. That
Christmas vacation would have the biggest impact the rest of her life. She started flying at the age
of 24 and later known as one of the most punctual female pilots. In 1927, Charles A. Lindbergh
flew solo nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean. A year later, in 1928, the publisher of Lindbergh s
autobiography, George P. Putnam, also Earhart s soon to be husband, invited Earhart to become the
first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.
Departing from Miami first, on June 1, 1937, Earhart and Fred, the navigator, set out on her
journey around the world. This trip would be 29,000 miles long heading east. As Earhart was
approaching Howland Island, she sent out a message to the U.S. Drift Guard that she was lost and
running low on fuel. To get fuel she would need to stop and land on Howland Island, which is
only 1.5 miles long and a half mile wide. Landing on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Noonan landed on one of the islands by the Japanese and was captured and held as prisoners. But
another theory of her disappearance is she landed safely and came back to America, changed her

Thermal Fracture Lab Report
Giselle Torres Period 1 November 29, 2017 Thermal Fracture of Rocks Lab Background:
Naturally, rocks go through a process in which they are broken down into smaller sediments of
rock. This process is known as Mechanical Weathering. Physical weathering, on the other hand, is
the same process but without changing their chemical composition. Physical weathering is
caused by changes of temperature in which results in rocks being fractured. A type of physical
weathering is heat fracture. Heat fracture is the result of a rapid change in temperature. Sudden
exposure to high temperature causes expansion and when it cools the rock contracts which then
leads to the breakage of the rock. Frost Wedging is also very similar to heat fracture. Frost
wedging pries apart a rock by having water seep in through cracks and wedges of a rock. The
water will then freeze due to extreme temperatures. This creates internal stress in the rock, causing
it to shatter. For heat fracture, the way a rock is fractured is slightly different. During the day a
rock would be heated. Since rocks are poor conductors of heat, the exterior of the rock heats... Show

If a rock is rapidly heated then cooled quickly multiple times, then the outer layer of the rock will
break down faster because the change in temperature will cause it to expand and contracting
making it undergo more stress, weakening the bonds. The data shown supports the hypothesis. In
the data, the first rock, coquina, took 9 minutes and 20 seconds for it to fracture. Then the
obsidian rock took 30 minutes and 27 seconds. And finally, the marble rock took 27 minutes until
it fractured. The graph shows that the longer time spent heating and cooling in separate beakers,
the longer it took for the rock sample to fracture. It is noticeable that the trendline goes upwards
since all three points of data increase. If another set of data were to occur, the trend will still be the

How Tornadoes Happen
Each year about a thousand tornadoes hit the United States, much more than any other country.
Tornadoes are very dangerous in multiple ways! A tornado is a spinning cloud that has a funnel
shape. They can have very rapid and high wind speeds. They sound very powerful! A tornado is
made up of many factors. This paper will discuss where most tornadoes occur. How a tornadoforms.
The various windspeeds of a tornado. Last but not least, the sound of tornadoes.
Most tornadoes occur in Tornado Alley. This is just East of the rocky mountains. Tornado Alley is a
name given to the Southern Plains because many tornadoes happen in that area. (Stormware, 9/12
/15). States like Oklahoma, and Missouri are in Tornado Alley. Many serious tornadoes happen in
Tornado Alley. One of the most frightening tornadoes was in Oklahoma in 2011. Although, most
tornadoes happen in tornado alley, they can happen in all states of the United States. Usually
tornadoes move Southwest to Northeast, but can move in any direction. Tornadoes happen where

The average wind speed is about 100 miles per hour. Some tornadoes can get up to 300 miles per
hour. Tornadoes turn in a clockwise direction. A fact that shows that tornadoes are very fast is
that debris has been found 130 kilometers away from the actual tornado. (Aniss, 2013). One of
the fastest tornadoes ever was going 318 miles per hour in Oklahoma in 1999. (Bryan, 2014). An
average forward speed of a tornado is 30 miles per hour, but may vary up to 70 miles per hour.
(Stormware, 9/12/15). The speeds of tornadoes are measured using a tool called the EF scale.
Tornadoes are very dangerous because they move so fast. People typically have little or no warning
that they are coming. Many tornadoes bring winds that are so powerful that they destroy everything
they touch. This includes homes, buildings, farms, cars, animals, and

Protein Thermal Stability Essay
Proteins are a series of connected amino acids, and in food products, proteins provide both
nutritional and functional properties that contribute to the quality of a food system (Christen and
Smith 2000). Protein in the diet is essential to the maintenance of life and health. Proteins are
compounds with a function that do work in the body such as facilitate reactions; however,
proteins are also functional in food systems. Proteins are used for a variety of reasons such as: to
create an emulsion, join pieces of meat together, form a skin on the surface of a product, and form
a stable foam matrix. Milk proteins such as whey and casein are isolated for many different
functions in food systems such as: foaming, whipping, gelation,... Show more content on

There are multiple methodologies implemented by scientists to determine protein concentration.
One of the oldest and most commonly used methods is the Biuret method (Okutucu and others
2007). The Biuret method is a colormetric assay that utilizes a spectrophotometric change
accomplished by reactions containing peptide bonds in conjunction with copper (Okutucu and
others 2007; Gornall and others 1949) to determine protein concentration based on a standard
reference. Thermal stability of a protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly
used to cook and/or sterilize a food product for a number of reasons. Heat is used in cooking to
denature the proteins present in bacteria to destroy them; however, if certain food proteins are
denatured, the food product could lose its functionality. Heating can also have beneficial effects on
proteins such as flavor, tenderness and digestibility (Christen and Smith 2000).
Protein thermal stability is not fully understood and can be due to a host of factors such as internal
folding, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic forces, and calcium affinity (Vogt and Argos 1997). There
are many types of proteins that convey thermally stable properties such as malate dehydrogenase,
lactate dehydrogenase, ferrodoxin, hydrolase, phosphofructokinase, and others (Vogt and Argos
1997). Argos and others (1997) explain that protein thermal stability is a result of the amino acid
sequence and the

The Human Brain Essay
The Human Brain
The human being is considered to be the ultimate form of life on the earth. This is not because the
human body is strong and agile. Many other animals posses skills much superior to humans and are
able to perform feats humans can only dream of. The one thing that distinguishes humans from all
of the other organisms on this planet is the brain. The brain is the site that controls the human body.
However, unlike in animals, in man, the brain is also the site of the mind. The mind gives humans
superiority over other creatures. It provides humans with the ability to reason, to feel and to adapt.
Because of this, man has achieved so much, and has also realized that much more is still ahead.

This increase in knowledge is partly due to the recent advances in nuclear medicine. Although X ray
machines have been the chief mechanical tools for internal observations of the human body since
Wilhelm
Roentgen discovered X rays in 1901, the development of computers made it possible for better and
more accurate techniques to be applied to scan the human body. These methods employ various
scanners like the CAT, PET, MRI and SPECT.
The CAT is an acronym for Computerized Axial Tomography. This method of scanning generally
involves X rays and enables scientists to view the inside of the head in a three dimensional format
on a computer screen. PET stands for Positron Emission Tomography and it is much more
complicated than the CAT scan. PET machines bombard the subject with doses of positrons the anti
matter equivalents of the electrons. As the positrons enter the body, they encounter electrons which
are escaping from radioactive elements which have been injected into the bloodstream. When the
positrons and the electrons collide, they give off energy which is recorded by a computer. The
result is a far more detailed 3 D picture of the brain than the one obtained from the CAT machine.
To obtain an even better image, physicians use the MRI, which stands for Magnetic Resonance
Spectroscopy. With these three

Haier Case Study
1. Discuss the primary reasons why Haier moves from a single and dominant business strategy to a
diversified strategy.
The single and dominant business strategy, which denote relatively low levels of diversification,
more fully diversified firms are classified into related and unrelated categories. A firm is related
through its diversification when there are several links between its business units; for example,
units may share products or services, technologies, or distribution channels. The more links among
businesses, the more constrained is the relatedness of diversification. Unrelateness refers to the
absence of direct links between businesses.

applied innovation to product design and production from the Liebherr Corporation of Germany.
This strategic move created value by not only competing and expanding its product categories, but
also by creating market needs. (pg. 7) The activity sharing and market need helped create product
breakthroughs like washing machines that operated without detergent or water, and refrigerators
that needed no compressors. (pg. 8) Another example of creating value was when Haier entered a
strategic business alliance with Sanyo. Sanyo wanted to increase its competiveness in China taking
advantage of Haier s extensive distribution network, whereas Haier hoped to enter the Jampanese
market by utilizing Sanyo s distribution and service centres s. (pg. 12) In the end Zhang Ruimin
utilized this diversification strategy in an attempt to gain market power. B.Also discuss how Haier
can use unrelated diversification strategy to create value.
Zhang Ruimin recognized that pursuing strictly a related diversification strategy might make
Haier susceptible to failure. He states, This is a globalised era..., no single industry can survive.

from washing machines to mobile phones as well as pharmaceuticals and tourism. This wide range

The Benefits Of New Media And Technology
What is the self in the digital age? One might say that their true online self is on Facebook, or
MySpace, or maybe Instagram. The splintering of the self into multiple versions illustrates a desire
to see what one can be online. Truly, new media and technology has allowed one to find their true
inner self, whether that reflect their real self in real life or not. Yet, not everyone sees these
disparate selves with optimism. Sherry Turkle and Natasha SchГјll see the growth of new mediaand
technology as detrimental to the formation of our true selves and both critically analyze specific
cases where it can be harmful. I, however, disagree with the sentiment that new media and
technology is something inherently harmful. Although they can certainly be misused, the benefits
of these digital innovations can, when applied with critical understanding, outweigh the negatives
brought up by Turkle and SchГјll. First, Turkle argues that social media is preventing adolescents
from dedicating time to self reflection and replacing face to face communication with online
communication. Turkle states in her book, Alone Together, that teens need time to discover
themselves, time to think. But technology, put in the service of always on communication and
telegraphic speed and brevity, has changed the rules of engagement with all of this. Here, Turkle
state that since social media is easily accessible and immediate, teenagers will be compelled to
interact online, instead of taking the

Reproductive Rights And Human Rights
Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights In 1973, the US Supreme Court declared abortion a
nationwide fundamental right through a trial called Roe vs. Wade and protected this right
underneath the Fourteenth Amendment, more specifically, the right to privacy. A basic human
right, especially one outlined by the Supreme Court, must never run at risk or threat chiefly because
not everyone agrees with it. Under no circumstances should a pregnancy ever adjudge mandatory.
Abortionis a Constitutional right and as a nation we must fight to give the right and freedom of safe
abortions to women all around the nation, make birth control and sex education accessible to
women, and raise awareness about the topic itself. (LawCornell)
In the United States, per year, twenty million unsafe abortions and sixty eight thousand deaths
from them occur, (Odyssey) while the average death risk for a safe abortion is less than .01
percent. An illegal and unsafe abortion should never result as the last resort, but it tends to
because of a lack of access to safe ones. Morals, usually drawn from religious beliefs, tend to play
a part in one s opinion towards abortion. More than three fourths of Americans consider
themselves as Christians. This means that more than three fourths of Americans believe that it is
morally wrong to undergo an abortion and a person should not hold the right to take someone else

With its evolving and unique sound, Bohemian Rhapsody by the British band Queen may be one

October 31, 1975 in the album A Night at the Opera, Bohemian Rhapsody became very popular,

a million copies sold. Freddie Mercury, the sole writer of this song, never disclaimed the song s

The song becomes operatic, almost as if to show the importance of the situation at hand. The
character begins to plead with lyrics I m just a poor boy, nobody loves me, He s just a poor boy
from a poor family, Spare him his life from this monstrosity, Easy come easy go will you let me
go. However, those who are holding the judgement express no mercy, for then they respond with
Bismillah! No we will not let you go . The seriousness of the condition at hand is also shown by the
stern choir of voices striking the character with judgement.
The song then transitions to a hard rock sound, with the drums and guitar unleashing powerful
rhythms. This sound perfectly matches the character s reaction to their judgers, which anger and
defiance. This can be seen from the lyrics So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye, So
you think you can love me and leave me to die, Oh baby, can t do this to me baby, Just gotta get
out, just gotta get right outta here . However, this doesn t last long, for after a short powerful guitar
riff, the song shifts to a down tempo ballad. This leads to the character feeling resignation and
complacency with the lyrics Nothing really matters, anyone can see, nothing really matters...to me .
Then the song fades out with the character saying Any way the wind blows , as if they are
accepting whatever challenge they had before.
All in all, this work of art manages to be equally loved by young kids

hypothesis states that that the optimum would be at a pH is 7, due to the liver, where catalase usually
resides, being neutral. The experiment consists of introducing the catalase to hydrogen peroxide,
after exposure to certain solutions; hydrogen peroxide, water and hydrochloric acids, all containing
the adjusted pH, and measuring the height of froth formed, an observable representation of the
activity of the enzyme. The final data indicated that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With all living organisms, a process known as cell respiration is integral in order to provide the
body with an essential form of energy, adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Oxygen
, although an essential
part of this process, can form reactants from colliding with electrons associated with carrier
molecules. (pb101.rcsb.org, 2017). Hydrogen peroxide is an integral product of this reaction but
is known to impose negative effects on the body if high levels are introduced. Explicitly, this
reaction is caused If oxygen runs into (one of these) carrier molecules, the electron may be
accidentally transferred to it. This converts oxygen into dangerous compounds such as superoxide
radicals and hydrogen peroxide, which can attack the delicate sulphur atoms and metal ions in
proteins. (pdbh101.rcb.org, 2017). Research has suggested that the hydrogen peroxide can be
converted into hydroxyl radicals, known to mutate DNA, which can potentially cause bodily harm
due to DNA s role in the synthesis of proteins. These radicals can cause detrimental effects on the
human body, and studies have suggested a link to ageing. Due to the harmful effects of these
H2o2, it is important that the body finds a way to dispose of hydrogen peroxide before
concentrations are too great.
However, there exist a natural process occurs which converts hydrogen peroxide into water and
oxygen gas, thus preventing potential harm to the body. This reaction is illustrated by the equation

Anabolic Steroids Are Known As Anabolic Androgenic Steroids
Anabolic Steroids are known as anabolic androgenic steroids. A drug that is structured to relate to
the cyclic steroid ring system. Anabolic steroids can many similar effects to testosterone in the
body. What anabolic steroids do is increase the protein in the cells. The increase in these cells most
happens in the skeletal muscles. Anabolic steroids can also have Androgenic and virilizing
properties, that includes the development and the maintenance of masculine characteristics. With
that, exactly what are the effects of anabolic steroids to the body visually and in health as well
mentally? With anabolic steroids, they can cause many affects with a human s health. For example
the heart, liver, Growth defects, Feminization, and the kidney. With the ways anabolic steroids
affects the heart is how it can have alterations in the structure of the heart. Like enlargement and
thickening of the left ventricle, this impairs its contractions and the relaxation. Other possible
effects of these alterations in the heart that can happen are hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias,
congestive failure with the heart, heart attacks, and sudden cardiac death. With the sudden cardiac
attacks, anabolic steroids are typically the leading the cause, what researchers say. Other problems
with steroids and the heart are how anabolic steroids can lead to the increase in cholesterol levels.
Now not all steroids do but some kinds can. They increase the LDL known as bad cholesterol and
decrease the HDL that

Dr. Phil Analysis
Each and every day, people state their opinions whether they are working, attending school, or
collaborating at home. Many individuals ask for advice from others to help them make difficult
decisions that they could not make on their own. People listen and ask to others for their
opinions in order to help themselves grow as a person whether it is about a life situation, politics,
or a struggle in their life. Most opinions are worthwhile, but could be different depending on the
situation. In today s society there are many television shows that allow the host and attendees to
converse about their own personal opinions. One show in particular that people seek for a
professional s opinion is Dr. Phil. The Dr. Phil show strives to help families that are in need of help

Most citizens have democratic values even if they do not realize it. As Americans, citizens have
freedom of speech, once an individual turns eighteen he has the right to vote and every citizen
has access to be informed about current events occurring in America. It is every citizen s duty to
be a responsible adult and take part in their country s democratic system. The democratic value
freedom of speech is valued by every American because the opinions of others are worthwhile
because they serve as a learning basis for everyone to learn something new. Of course, there are
situations that are private to an individual or his family that the public s opinion is not
worthwhile. For instance, if a family was deciding on whether or not to get an abortion, the
public does not need to have a say in a personal situation like that. Then there are other instances
where an individual does not believe that other s opinions are worthwhile. A person that does not
believe other s opinions are worthwhile will not grow as a person and will not expand their
knowledge of subjects they are not familiar

Allivium Analysis
The script ALLUVIUM is a character driven story. It presents with a very unique and refreshing
voice. It s a dramatic thriller that subtly delivers an eerie and un nerving plot. The tone is alluring.
The script is completely unpredictable and it offers several twists and turns.
The script also offers complex and disturbing characters. These are characters that can attract talent
given the complexity of the roles.
However, ALLUVIUM is actually one of those scripts where you are never sure exactly what s
going on, and you are never sure of the direction of the plot. At times this can be very unsettling and
frustrating. In fact, at the end, some audiences may not even understand the true story, as it could
be up to interpretation. The story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He s a great role for an actor to play. It s subtle, yet so depraved.
The only concern is that, as mentioned, he does go missing for periods of time in the script and he
doesn t feel as if he drives it, although behind the scenes, he s driving everyone.
One doesn t really root for Taelon, because one isn t aware of what they are rooting for. However,
there are telling moments. When he turns the tables on Marsh regarding the authenticity of the
artwork, the audience cheers for Taelon, not fully understanding the scope of his depravity.
At the end one gets the sense that Taelon realizes how his obsession has caused horror for those
all around him, but it s not clear if he cares or not, but that s okay. It s a chilling and un nerving
ending.
Most of the supporting characters are all well sculptured and crafted. Marsh is the greedy, self
centered artist. Maxie is the corrupt and immoral politician with a sensitive secret. One has seen
this type of character before, but he s pushed to the edge. However, there s a little bit too much of
him and this is an area to

The Pico And Peo Formats
The PICO and PEO formats are used commonly in health research and nursing to form a research
question. Using one of these formats will assist you to find out the key concepts of the research
question, develop applicable search terms and determine inclusion and exclusion criteria. PICO
format is mostly used in quantitative research whereas PEO is used in qualitative researchquestions.
In a quantitative PICOT format (P) stands for Population, patient, problem (I) Intervention (C)
Comparison and (O) Outcome (University Campus Suffolk, 2012). One of the safety issues I have
noticed in Summerville is children driving the bicycle without a helmet. This is a serious safety
issue as it can result in serious head injury and death. A quantitative research question was made by
using the PICOT format based on this safety concern.
P Children riding the bicycle
I wearing a helmet
C Not wearing a helmet
O Prevent head injury.
PICOT question Wearing a helmet (I) when children riding a bicycle (P) can prevent head injuries
(O) compared to children not wearing a helmet (C)?
A Descriptive research purpose was used to answer the quantitative research PICOT question. In
human research, a descriptive study can provide naturally occurring health status, behavior,
attitudes and other characteristics of a particular group. In descriptive studies, data is collected
without interfering the environment and is also referred as observational study. Descriptive studies

The Normal Cellular Location Of The Crusoe1
Assignment Michael Layland C1476301 I1417
Q1: What does the comparison of the supernatant fraction between the experimental and control
samples prove, regarding the normal cellular location of the CRUSOE1? [2 marks]
A1: Triton X 100 is a detergent in laboratory practice and is used to permeabalize unfixed
eukaryotic cell membranes and aids in solubilizing membranous proteins. The addition of the
substance Triton X 100 would cause the majority of the cell membranes to become permeable thus
allowing contents of the eukaryotic cell to leave via simple diffusion hence the large concentration
of radioactive prominence to be situated in the supernatant fraction. Again, the detergent property
of Triton X 100 is further reinforced by the fact that it causes the majority of all radioactive sulphur
to be situated in the supernatant. Without the addition of Triton X 100 the graph displays the
greatest quantity of radioactive sulphur to be situated in fraction 3 of which a majority of small
organelles are situated ranging from a diameter 0.2 to 1.5 Ојm. It is due to this fact that one can
assume the normal cellular location of the CRUSOE1 protein to be situated in normal cellular
location in organelles of the previously stated diameter and not it the cytoplasmic structure as the
addition of Triton X 100 would assume.
Q2: Professor Holton s team speculate that CRUSOE1 is located predominantly in the Lysosomes
of the cell. Is this a reasonable assumption to make, and why? [4

Cloke On Conflict
In Cloke and Goldsmith s Resolving Conflicts at Work, strategy 1 gives us an overview of
conflict today and the many factors that influence. The authors also explain the many ways nearly
every conflict can be handled. Cloke tells us that differing human perceptions keep us stuck in
conflict longer than is necessary and productive. Early family development sets the default settings
for each person s perception of the situations they will face for the rest of their lives. Cloke goes
on to say that conflictis unavoidable especially because today s media continually subjects
Americans to conflict following a common injunction, if it bleeds it leads.
Cloke then challenges his readers to release ourselves from pointless, unproductive cultural
patterns. To create a dialogue with opponents to increase awareness and stimulate self
improvement on both sides because victories won in anger lead to long term defeat. Cloke then
describes the internal process that takes place within our minds when we are faced with conflict,
the fight or flight reflex. Fight or flight can be acted out in many ways and all lead to different
outcomes between the aggressor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In all circumstances there is a focus either subjectively on the people or objectively on the result.
You have to decide what type of relationship you want with your opponent when you choose one of
the five methods in responding to a conflict. Cloke firmly believes that collaboration is almost
always the best long term solution to conflicts. In collaborative arguments both parties recognize
conflict can be positive, use empathy to understand the other s position, share responsibility and
satisfy both sides interests, fully resolve issues, are honest with themselves and their opponent,
speak and act with integrity and clarity, search for small scale collaborative alternatives that increase

The following case study critiques Upton s vision to establish a sustainable community through
implementing comprehensive sustainable strategy. The urban periphery development is thought to
demonstrate superior execution of sustainable principles in development (Jackson 2007). As a
parallel, the report focuses on the development of Upton s design code and demonstrates how
large scale mix use developments can incorporate sustainable practice and principles of urban
growth. Site Context Upton is a 44 ha greenfield site forming part of Northampton s South West

The multi faceted characteristics of high quality urban extensions are detailed in the Sustainable
Urban Extensions: Planned through Design (2010), a report from the Princes Foundation, focusing
particularly on the quality of new housing. Paraphrased below are the proposed requirements to
create a successful development indicated by the report: High density and compact design; A mix
of housing types and tenures; Legible neighbourhoods; Communal areas of green space and;
Communal amenities and facilities. The report identifies the physical attributes of a sustainable
urban extension, focussing on quality of new housing. Higher density, a mix of housing types and
tenures, legible neighbourhoods, communal areas including green space and communal amenities
and facilities are all observed as necessary. However, due to adverse effects of the economic
downturn, Upton is yet to provide the substantial amenities as originally proposed. Consequently,
residents of Upton will require transportation to obtain essential services, thus partially offsetting
the sustainable premise of the scheme. Breheny et al (1993) considered the design characteristics of
new communities and summaries the dominant tendency towards oversimplified and functional
concepts. In urban extensions there is an inclination to focus heavily on traditional features of an
English Village, resulting in a pastiche urban fabric, with Poundbury Dorchester

Character Analysis Of Chuck Bass
The pilot episode introduces viewers to the series plot line and its primary characters. In the first
episode, Chuck appears as a privileged, woman obsessed teenager. In fact, referring to the show s
primary protagonist, Serena, he suggests, that level of perfection needs to be violated. Later,
referring to Blair Waldorf, he insists his friend, Nate Archibald, should tap that ass. Ultimately,
Chuck only views his female counterparts as sexual objects, not human beings. Throughout the first
season, in particular, Chuck is mostly characterized as three things: rich, mean, and sexually
aggressive (McNear, 2017). Furthermore, he rarely thinks, or cares, about consequences because he
never actually suffers any negative repercussions for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Misleadingly, Chuck guides Serena to the kitchen, where he orders the chef to make her a
sandwich. While in the kitchen, he suggests, if you re looking for a way to thank me I have a
couple of ideas. He then forces himself upon Serena despite her multiple pleas for him to stop.
Chuck ignores her. Fortunately, Serena hits Chuck and runs away, escaping his assault. The scene
highlights a number of serious concerns. First, Chuck knows Serena is drunk; therefore, she is
unable to give true consent. So, even if Serena had wanted Chuck to make a move, she lacked the
clear capacity to do so, thus making it a problematic sexual encounter. Second, as with many real
life scenarios, Serena does not press charges against her perpetrator. In fact, she tells no one of
Chuck s assault. Since he suffers no repercussions for his first offense, Chuck later assaults Jenny
Humphrey at a party.
Jenny, like many freshmen, is willing to do almost anything to gain popularity. Chuck, on the other
hand, has power over Jenny because he is an upper classman with wealth. In the scene leading up to
his assault upon Jenny, he references the purity and freshness of freshmen, hinting at the allure of
Jenny s innocence. Chuck then uses his charm and social status to lure her in. Throughout the
entire encounter, Jenny is visibly uncomfortable. Noticing Jenny s behavior, Chuck hands her a
flute of

Tom Blake Bully
Bullying is something that should always be prevented anywhere, whether it s online, at school,
at work, etc. It is something that is completely unacceptable, and absolutely nobody deserves to
be bullied especially just to lift someone s confidence up. There can be a stop to bullying, one
just needs to put their mind to it. Tom is your typical teenage guy; he goes to school and enjoys
sports. He has a pretty worry free life, his parents have always taught him to worry about school
and nothing else that could possibly affect him in a negative way. He is very intelligent when it
comes to book smarts; he gets straight As and Bs. At school, he is very well known amongst
people for his great personality. One day however, he notices that there s... Show more content on

kind Tom was; they all knew that Tom didn t care how mean he had been in the past that he would
give him an opportunity to fix things up.
Over the rest of their high school careers, Blake was never classified as a bully ever again. He
went back to the guy that everyone that had known him for a long time remembered, and they
were glad that he was not the same rude and obnoxious person anymore and that his eyes were
opened and that he realized that what he had done was wrong.
Bullying is an act of violence even if there isn t actual physical hurting. Mental violence hurts a
human being more than physical violence could hurt someone. Bullying can become something
horrible if it isn t handled with in its early stages. Bullying is a way in which someone takes out
their anger on an innocent person that might or might have not done anything to that person.
Bullying is something that is an act that can truly be unforgiving depending on the person that its

Redrone Feasibility Study
Robots are re programmable machine that can be programmed to do a specific or many tasks.
Robots are mainly used to perform tasks that humans dislike or cannot perform safely.
Therefore, a robot is a robot as it is capable of movement, is reprogrammable, and can be
programmed in order to complete a task/tasks. The assignment was to develop and program a
robot prototype which would assist an audience/community. Thus, by assisting the needy
communities the Redrone would be improving the quality of life along with creating social,
political, and/or economic conclusions. One specific Robot, the Redrone, was constructed to
monitor and aid bison, the nation s national mammal. The Redrone will aid the bison by
monitoring them to make sure they do not wander off to an area where they may be killed or
injured and also to warn if they are hurt. The Redrone was built with propellers to give it the ability
to fly. By flying/hovering, it can easily monitor the bison without getting caught on grasses, trees,
and bushes. There is a camera attached to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the Redrone the bison population will continue to grow and improve. Therefore, humans can
receive more goods from the bison without diminishing the population to a large extent thus,
improving the economy. Furthermore, bison have mass migrated outside of Yellowstone National
Park which has upset local and state governments. The Redrone will help control these mass
migrations by leading the bison back into National Parks consequently solving political issues and
conclusions. Ultimately, by assisting the bison the Redrone creates political and economic
implications and solutions. Providing a service, improving the life of bison, the grasslands, and
humans along with creating political and economic conclusions are tasks that the Redrone can

Especially, in the beginning of the twentieth century in Europe, an avangarde art movement had started and spread rapidly across the world. The movement was called Cubism, which was described as the most innovative and influential visual art style at that time, because the idea of Cubism was aside from a fixed idea of realism after the Renaissance and it has opened a new era of art. Accordingly, nowadays, some people said that the art of the twentieth century would be totally different without effect of Cubism. This essay will explain the feature of cubism and how it represented through the artwork of cubist. First of all, one of the characteristics of Cubism is that the cubist made a painting from diverse view points. Instead of looking at one side of the object, changed viewpoint differently. Accordingly, the cubist artworks are expressed the plurality of view than the one point perspective to the screen perspective. Andrew Glassner also wrote that Cubist painters explored the process of creating images from multiple, simultaneous points of view and Erika Gonzaiez claim that Cubism involved looking at the same object from a variety of different perspectives and showing all these perspectives at the exact same time . At the same time, the cubist painters ignored the idea that painting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis of A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor In Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard To Find, one is struck by the unexpected violence at the end of the story. However, if you re read the story a second time, you will see definite signs that foreshadow the grotesque ending. The story begins with the typical nuclear family being challenged by the grandmother who doesn t want to take the vacation to Florida. She has read about a crazed killer by the name of the Misfit who is on the run heading for Florida. Unfortunately, she is ignored by every member of the family except for the little girl, June Star, who can read the grandmother like an open book. The fact that she admonishes Bailey, her son, of this Misfit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A strong foreshadowing imagery can be read into these lines. Knowing the definite ending of the story, the grandmother?s elaborate dress symbolizes a preparation for her coffin. When a person dies, they usually are dressed in their best outfit, just like the grandmother was dressed in what seemed to be her Sunday best. A stronger foreshadowing is when O?Connor states the reason for the grandmother?s immaculate dress, in case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady. She herself predicts her own death. Unfortunately, she doesn?t know this yet. Although this is beyond the parameters of this essay, it is interesting that in the grandmother s mind wearing her best clothes prevent any misgivings about her status as a lady IF she was to die. But as the Misfit later points out, there never was a body that gave the undertaker a tip. The grandmother s perceived readiness for death is a stark contrast to her behavior when she encounters the Misfit; for she shows herself to be the least prepared for death. As the trip progresses, the children reveal themselves as funny, spoiled brats. O Connor s desire to illustrate the lost respect for the family and elders among the young is quite apparent in her illustrations of the children. One evidently notices another foreshadowing image when the family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Nuclear Waste Research Paper Nuclear fuel has been providing energy to the world for around sixty years, and it is the second most used energy source, first being fossil fuels. Nuclear energy is closely chained to the invention of the atomic bomb and is in fact, nuclear fission and/or fusion. The problem with nuclear energy is that while it can provide energy without air pollutants, there is nowhere to put the radioactive nuclear waste. With the spent nuclear fuel, we currently dump it in places relatively far from people or we reprocess it. However there is more to that than meets the eye. Dumping is not the best method for dealing with nuclear waste, the best way is to reprocess the nuclear waste because it recovers a portion of reusable energy that can be recycled back into the plant, recovers fuel that can be reused for other purposes and also helps reduce the effects on the environment. The reusable energy that is recovered may not feel like much, however once you reprocess tons and tons of nuclear waste it adds up to an enormous amount of saved waste. Eliot s The Waste Land is considered by many to be the most influential work in modern literature. First published in 1922, it captures the feelings and sentiments of modern culture after World War I. Line thirty of The Waste Land, I will show you fear in a handful of dust, is often viewed as a symbol of mankind s fear of death and resulting love of life. Eliot s masterpiece with its revolutionary ideas inspired writers of his era, and it continues to affect writers even today. Each boy is dead to the others; none of them believe they will ever see each other again. After several months, however, the Brothers Three are reunited. They promise to always stay together, and each boy has an optimistic outlook on life again. Eliot s own pessimism toward life amid the destruction of World War I is evident throughout most of the poem. He uses many dark images to suggest death and brokenness, but Eliot contrasts those depictions with pictures of life and energy. In the second stanza of section one, Eliot vividly describes a desert wasteland. A few lines later in the same stanza, he depicts a young hyacinth girl (l. 37) and a lush garden full of flowers. To do that, I would see if both liquids were able to dissolve the outer shell of a raw egg. This experiement required six household items: two bowls, two eggs, vinegar, and water. The question that evolved was, what happens to an eggsubmerged in vinegar (acid) vs. water (neutral)? My hypothesis is that there will be a chemical reaction to the egg as result of the vinegar however the egg in water will remain the same. I think this because vinegar is an acid, about 4% acetic acid, and acids have the ability to break down certain subtances through a chemical reaction. Water is a neutral ... From this point, daily observation as well as photographing the eggs took place monitoring for any changes to the egg s shell. My independent variable was the type of liquid used, my controlled variable was the same time of day in the same amount of liquid, and my dependant variable was the time (days) in the liquid. Observing the results, I could see that the water egg remained the same as predicted. The shell on the vinegar egg had fully dissolved leaving a translucent appearing egg intact in only the membrane of the egg. Based on everything I ve done as well as researched regarding this experiement, I can conclude that the vinegar dissolved the shell due to the acid of the vinegar breaking down the calcium carbonate in the egg shell constantly until it reaches the thin, clear membrane that the vinegar cannot break down. This chemical reaction produced carbon dioxide gas resulting in fizz formation and after 4 days in the solution, this reaction dissolved the entire egg shell. We either adapt to change, or we get left behind. But here s the fun fact: Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, change is excellent. Sometimes, change is everything we want. Its funny how things appear the same every passing day but when we look back, many things have changed! • 24. Thermal Fracture Lab Report Giselle Torres Period 1 November 29, 2017 Thermal Fracture of Rocks Lab Background: Naturally, rocks go through a process in which they are broken down into smaller sediments of rock. This process is known as Mechanical Weathering. Physical weathering, on the other hand, is the same process but without changing their chemical composition. Physical weathering is caused by changes of temperature in which results in rocks being fractured. A type of physical weathering is heat fracture. Heat fracture is the result of a rapid change in temperature. Sudden exposure to high temperature causes expansion and when it cools the rock contracts which then leads to the breakage of the rock. Frost Wedging is also very similar to heat fracture. Frost wedging pries apart a rock by having water seep in through cracks and wedges of a rock. The water will then freeze due to extreme temperatures. This creates internal stress in the rock, causing it to shatter. For heat fracture, the way a rock is fractured is slightly different. During the day a rock would be heated. Since rocks are poor conductors of heat, the exterior of the rock heats... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Protein Thermal Stability Essay Proteins are a series of connected amino acids, and in food products, proteins provide both nutritional and functional properties that contribute to the quality of a food system (Christen and Smith 2000). Protein in the diet is essential to the maintenance of life and health. Proteins are compounds with a function that do work in the body such as facilitate reactions; however, proteins are also functional in food systems. Proteins are used for a variety of reasons such as: to create an emulsion, join pieces of meat together, form a skin on the surface of a product, and form a stable foam matrix. Milk proteins such as whey and casein are isolated for many different functions in food systems such as: foaming, whipping, gelation,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thermal stability of a protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly used to cook and/or sterilize a food product for a number of reasons. Heat is used in cooking to denature the proteins present in bacteria to destroy them; however, if certain food proteins are denatured, the food product could lose its functionality. Heating can also have beneficial effects on proteins such as flavor, tenderness and digestibility (Christen and Smith 2000). Protein thermal stability is not fully understood and can be due to a host of factors such as internal folding, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic forces, and calcium affinity (Vogt and Argos 1997). There are many types of proteins that convey thermally stable properties such as malate dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase, ferrodoxin, hydrolase, phosphofructokinase, and others (Vogt and Argos 1997). • 36. Reproductive Rights And Human Rights Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights In 1973, the US Supreme Court declared abortion a nationwide fundamental right through a trial called Roe vs. Wade and protected this right underneath the Fourteenth Amendment, more specifically, the right to privacy. A basic human right, especially one outlined by the Supreme Court, must never run at risk or threat chiefly because not everyone agrees with it. Under no circumstances should a pregnancy ever adjudge mandatory. Abortionis a Constitutional right and as a nation we must fight to give the right and freedom of safe abortions to women all around the nation, make birth control and sex education accessible to women, and raise awareness about the topic itself. (LawCornell) In the United States, per year, twenty million unsafe abortions and sixty eight thousand deaths from them occur, (Odyssey) while the average death risk for a safe abortion is less than .01 percent. An illegal and unsafe abortion should never result as the last resort, but it tends to because of a lack of access to safe ones. Morals, usually drawn from religious beliefs, tend to play a part in one s opinion towards abortion. More than three fourths of Americans consider themselves as Christians. This means that more than three fourths of Americans believe that it is morally wrong to undergo an abortion and a person should not hold the right to take someone else s life away. • 37. Bohemian Rhapsody Analysis With its evolving and unique sound, Bohemian Rhapsody by the British band Queen may be one of the strangest, most inspired and least understood songs in the history of rock. Released on October 31, 1975 in the album A Night at the Opera, Bohemian Rhapsody became very popular, staying at the top of the UK Singles Chartfor nine weeks and by the end of January, had more than a million copies sold. Freddie Mercury, the sole writer of this song, never disclaimed the song s official meaning, but Brian May, the lead guitarist of the band, believes it is about his struggles in life and how he tried to get past society s standards, for the lyrics progress through the central character s understanding of the situations portrayed in the song.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The song becomes operatic, almost as if to show the importance of the situation at hand. The character begins to plead with lyrics I m just a poor boy, nobody loves me, He s just a poor boy from a poor family, Spare him his life from this monstrosity, Easy come easy go will you let me go. However, those who are holding the judgement express no mercy, for then they respond with Bismillah! No we will not let you go . The seriousness of the condition at hand is also shown by the stern choir of voices striking the character with judgement. The song then transitions to a hard rock sound, with the drums and guitar unleashing powerful rhythms. This sound perfectly matches the character s reaction to their judgers, which anger and defiance. This can be seen from the lyrics So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye, So you think you can love me and leave me to die, Oh baby, can t do this to me baby, Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here . However, this doesn t last long, for after a short powerful guitar riff, the song shifts to a down tempo ballad. This leads to the character feeling resignation and complacency with the lyrics Nothing really matters, anyone can see, nothing really matters...to me . Then the song fades out with the character saying Any way the wind blows , as if they are accepting whatever challenge they had before. Effect Of Ph On The Activity Of Catalase Abstract The purpose of this investigation is to discover the effect of pH on the activity of catalase, an enzyme which plays the integral role of converting hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen, and discover which pH level it will work at the most efficient rate (the optimum). The original hypothesis states that that the optimum would be at a pH is 7, due to the liver, where catalase usually resides, being neutral. The experiment consists of introducing the catalase to hydrogen peroxide, after exposure to certain solutions; hydrogen peroxide, water and hydrochloric acids, all containing the adjusted pH, and measuring the height of froth formed, an observable representation of the activity of the enzyme. The final data indicated that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With all living organisms, a process known as cell respiration is integral in order to provide the body with an essential form of energy, adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Oxygen , although an essential part of this process, can form reactants from colliding with electrons associated with carrier molecules. (pb101.rcsb.org, 2017). Hydrogen peroxide is an integral product of this reaction but is known to impose negative effects on the body if high levels are introduced. Explicitly, this reaction is caused If oxygen runs into (one of these) carrier molecules, the electron may be accidentally transferred to it. This converts oxygen into dangerous compounds such as superoxide radicals and hydrogen peroxide, which can attack the delicate sulphur atoms and metal ions in proteins. (pdbh101.rcb.org, 2017). Research has suggested that the hydrogen peroxide can be converted into hydroxyl radicals, known to mutate DNA, which can potentially cause bodily harm due to DNA s role in the synthesis of proteins. These radicals can cause detrimental effects on the human body, and studies have suggested a link to ageing. Due to the harmful effects of these H2o2, it is important that the body finds a way to dispose of hydrogen peroxide before concentrations are too great. However, there exist a natural process occurs which converts hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas, thus preventing potential harm to the body. This reaction is illustrated by the equation ... • 44. The Normal Cellular Location Of The Crusoe1 Assignment Michael Layland C1476301 I1417 Q1: What does the comparison of the supernatant fraction between the experimental and control samples prove, regarding the normal cellular location of the CRUSOE1? [2 marks] A1: Triton X 100 is a detergent in laboratory practice and is used to permeabalize unfixed eukaryotic cell membranes and aids in solubilizing membranous proteins. The addition of the substance Triton X 100 would cause the majority of the cell membranes to become permeable thus allowing contents of the eukaryotic cell to leave via simple diffusion hence the large concentration of radioactive prominence to be situated in the supernatant fraction. Again, the detergent property of Triton X 100 is further reinforced by the fact that it causes the majority of all radioactive sulphur to be situated in the supernatant. Without the addition of Triton X 100 the graph displays the greatest quantity of radioactive sulphur to be situated in fraction 3 of which a majority of small organelles are situated ranging from a diameter 0.2 to 1.5 Ојm. It is due to this fact that one can assume the normal cellular location of the CRUSOE1 protein to be situated in normal cellular location in organelles of the previously stated diameter and not it the cytoplasmic structure as the addition of Triton X 100 would assume. Q2: Professor Holton s team speculate that CRUSOE1 is located predominantly in the Lysosomes of the cell. Is this a reasonable assumption to make, and why? [4 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
