Hispanic American Diversity Essay
Summary The purpose of this paper is to discuss the culture and beliefs of four Hispanic groups.
The groups I have chosen to cover are: Puerto Rican, Mexican, Dominican and Cuban. Included
in the paper will be each group s linguistic, social, economical, political, familial and religious ties
or beliefs. Hispanic American Diversity Puerto Rican Puerto Rico s linguistic background is
strongly defined by Spanish and English. Most Puerto Ricans speak both languages fluently and
use both in everyday life such as; work, travel and communication. Puerto Rico s major political
division is the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), which supports commonwealth rank for the island;
has been the leading political party since 1940. The PPD was... Show more content on

Visiting and keeping in touch with one another is more of an obligation in Puerto Rican culture
and failing to do so could lead to harsh feelings. It is also considered offensive to turn down a
meal or gift from an individual. Puerto Rico is not a rich island. Most families are considered
middle or lower class due to the lack of job options. It is not very common for someone of Puerto
Rican decent to attend college or higher education; the norm is to work instead. The religion of
most Puerto Ricans is Roman Catholic, although very few actually attend services. Spiritualism
is also very common; many Puerto Ricans blend Catholicism with other traditions like
spiritualism, an idea that spirits of the deceased roam the island. Family is very important to
Puerto Ricans. They do not usually live in the same homes, but they do live near or in the same
town as their loved ones. This gives grandparents the option to offer child care when needed; like
when both mom and dad work. Living close to relatives also makes it easy to visit one another
often. Most Puerto Rican homes have at least three children that do not leave home until they are
married. They grow with the strict understanding of respect for their elders and are expected to take
care of their loved ones when they get old. Mexican Spanish is a significant joining power in the
Mexican American community. Mexican Americans will not forget their native tongue; though
equally, English and Spanish are spoken in

Connectome is a comprehensive map of neural connections in the brain. The production and study
of connectomes, known as connectomics, may range in scale from a detailed map of the full set of
neurons and synapses within part or all of the nervous system of an organism to a macro scale
description of the functional and structural connectivity between all cortical areas and subcortical
structures. The tem connectome is used primarily in scientific efforts to capture, map, and

The amygdala is an almond shaped region that is key to the normal expression of emotions,
specially fear. Brian imaging studies see high activity in the amygdala when subjects experience
anxiety, stress of phobias. The vmPFC can be thought of a s a higher part of the brain, involved in
less well defined activities such as emptional processing and decision making. The hippocampus is
a larger region that is very simply, involved in memory.
Brain imaging studies of PTSD sufferers shows two things, it reduces activity in the vmPFC and
increased activity in the amygdala. The long studies showed that in PTSD the vmPFC is sleep at
the wheel, allowing the amygdala to go unchecked that more likely produces many of the intense
anxiety symptoms that make it the key feature of PTSD. There are marked differences in
pathways, hormone and glucocorticoid levels and atrophy of the hippocampus is common. The
pathologic development of PTSD only occurs if the response leading to resolution of the trauma is
disrupted in some way.

Dante s Inferno, By Dante The Pilgrim
Dante, Inferno Throughout the epic poem Inferno, Dante the Pilgrim travels in the different
circles of Hell told by Dante the Poet. The story examines what a righteous life is by showing us
examples of sinful lives. Dante is accompanied by his guide Virgil, who takes him on a journey to
examine sin and the effects it has in has in the afterlife to different sinners. Through the stories of
Francesca and Paolo, Brunetto Latini, Ulysses and Guido da Montefeltro, we are able to
understand that people are self interested in the way they act and present themselves to others and
that those in Hell are there because they have sinned and failed to repent their sins and moral
failings. The story of Brunetto Latini teacher us to use the gifts we... Show more content on

Francesca was married to Paolo s brother and one day while Francesca and Paolo were reading the
story of Lancelot and Guinevere, and when they got to the romantic part of the story they
confessed to each other and kissed. Francesca s husband found out shortly after and had both of
them killed. Francesca s sin was not only adultery, but also failure to accept her own responsibility
for her actions. In the story of Lancelot is about the fall of Camelot and the consequence of
adultery, which shows that Francesca and Paolo knew what they were getting themselves into and
that there would be consequences. Francesca blamed Paolo for everything, as if she didn t have
control over anything that happened. This is shown when Francesca is explaining to Dante why
she is in hell. Love, that excuses no one loved from loving, seized me so strongly with delight in
him, (Dante, Inferno, V, line 103 104). From this we can clearly see how she is completing
blaming her actions solely on love rather than standing up and taking responsibility for the actions
she has committed. She said that love held her down so strongly that it drew her to Paolo and that
she had no way of escaping. After hearing this, Dante becomes faint, for Francesca has seduced
him, she disguised her sin with a love story, making it sound like she had no fault at all. From the

The Conflict Of War And Peace
Intro
In todays society there are many conflicts,or disagreements these conflicts and disagreements
need to be solved. Some can be felt with by simply talking it out but others are on a global scale,
and these will need more than talking to settle. Some conflicts on a global scale can lead to war, and
others can be negotiated using peace. If you believe in only peace then you are a pacifist. Today s
society has war and peace as a solution to conflict but it is in everyones beliefs and values that
will help them to form their own opinion on weather they are a pacifist or they believe in only
war or bits of both, it is different for everyone .
P1 war
War is a large scaled, deadly, serious and emotional battle of conflict between two or more sides.
War involves weapons that kill, so the survivors are honoured especially if they are high up in
the ranks. War is good for few, bad for most Latuff. If you are fighting in war then your time is
precious as you only have one life. There are many dangers whilst fighting in war, there are risks
of gas, bombs, surprise attacks, snipers and shooting. If you are fighting then you are most likely
going to be sent out onto no mans land. Before and during the troops sending of on their attack a
bagpipe is played to block out the noise of men dying as they sprint. One man is left in the trench
to kill those who flee and turn around as this shows cowardliness. if anyone turns to retreat, shoot

Sally Hemings Jefferson Research Paper
Thomas Jefferson is a well known name in the United States history. Thomas Jefferson
accomplished many goals and ideas during his lifespan. He was a founding father, he wrote the
Declaration of Independence and serve as president for 2 terms from 1801 to 1809. During his first
term as president, there was speculation of him having a relationship with Sally Hemingsa slave. As
of today, it is still unknown if it was true and if he was the father of 6. For two centuries there
has been disagreement with this controversy however, there has been DNA test on Thomas Jefferson
s male descendants and Sally Hemings relatives and the real answer is still undiscovered.
In September of 1802, a political journalist James T. Callender published an article. In which he
claimed Thomas Jefferson had a sexual relationship with Sally Hemmings a slave and even had
children. Being the president the article spread all around quickly. Sally Hemings was a slave at
Monticello. She was the half sister of Thomas Jefferson s wife Martha Jefferson, her father had a

The Role of Environmental Monitoring at Symrise
Sources of potential microbial contamination can exist in all parts of a manufacturing plant, from
the air and water supply to the operator working on his latest assigned batch of material. Ineffective
cleaning programs can potentially result in pathogenic outbreaks in a manufacturing facility. An
environmental monitoring program is typically used to help a company determine how effective
their sanitation program is. The FDA recommends an environmental monitoring program designed
to detect areas of pathogen harborage and to verify the effectiveness of cleaning and sanitizing
programs in preventing cross contamination (2008). Even though pathogen hits are rare in the
production facility at Symrise, environmental monitoring is necessary to document the state of
control of the plant to ensure food safety and to confirm that good manufacturing processes are met.
Failure to adhere to the guidelines set forth by an established environmental monitoring program
would be a violation of cGMP. While many of these microbes are not... Show more content on

Chemistry Vitamin C
tamin C, ascorbic acid, is one of the most important vitamins found in citrus juices, including orange
juice.
Often projects find that orange juices made from frozen concentrated orange juice (FCOJ) have the
highest vitamin C levels as compared to freshly squeezed or not from concentrate (NFC) juices.
This is probably due to the fact that vitamin C degrades over time in fresh and NFC, but doesn t
degrade as much in FCOJ due to it being frozen until reconstitution. If one is comparing a NFC
product that has been stored for about 3 weeks versus a newly reconstituted FCOJ, the FCOJ would
almost certainly have a higher vitamin C concentration. Also another thing to consider is if the
FCOJ is reconstituted to the same strength as fresh or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, pasteurized orange juice is processed based on fruit availability at the time, and this
could reflect the natural variability of vitamin C throughout the growing season for the fruit.
Pasteurized orange juice showed higher levels of vitamin C during the months of December
through March, when vitamin C rich Hamlin oranges were a major contributor to the orange juice
market. Samples collected between May and July generally had lower values of vitamin C. This
probably reflected the use of larger amounts of Valencia oranges which have lower amounts of
vitamin C of the three major Florida sweet oranges, said Lee. the current study did not take into
account any changes in vitamin C levels that could have occurred during marketing. Vitamin C
retention will also vary depending on the length of storage time and the type of container in which
a product is stored
BACKGROUND INFO
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water soluble vitamin. Unlike most mammals, humans
do not have the ability to make their own vitamin C. Therefore, we must obtain vitamin C through
our diet.
Function
Vitamin C is required for the synthesis of collagen, an important structural component of blood
vessels, tendons, ligaments, and bone. Vitamin C also plays an important role in the synthesis of
the neurotransmitter,

The Slavery Of The Cotton Gin By Eli Whitney
1.Many Americans had expected the practice of slavery to die. Americans were given this
impression in relation to decreasing tobacco production due to lack of fertile soil (Foner, 317).
However, Americans would be presented with factors that would lead to an expansion in slavery.
The expansion of slavery deteriorated already terrible conditions for slaves; slave families would
be separated and many female slaves faced imminent forced reproduction with studs or white
males. In the 1790 s the invention of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney sparked an increase in cotton
production in the South. The cotton gin decreased the labor time it took to pick seeds from the
cotton. Slave owners moved or sold their slaves to deep Southern states... Show more content on

American slave holders answered by creating more hardships and suffrage on slaves. While the
Northern states experienced a greater impact due to the market revolution the market revolution
also impacted slavery expansion. The introduction of new transportation and steam power
decreased the time it took to ship goods and improved canal production. As well, goods could now
travel up stream. The number of large cities near rivers and lakes increased and economics boomed
throughout the country. Due to the market revolution New England experienced an industrial
revolution. Work in factories created mass produced items that were previously made at home or
bought locally. This changed the American family structure, women were now working in mills.
Farmer s daughters worked in the textile mills and boarded nearby. Their leisure time was spent in
church or school. Families now had multiple sources of income, incomes would be impacted by the
arrival of German and Irish immigrants. Irish immigrants settled in New England and were willing
to work unskilled job for low wages, while Germans settled around the North and sought skilled
jobs for lower wages. The industrial revolution further alienated the North and South. Southern
states did not have the resources to benefit from the revolution. In 1819 Missouri requested through
congress to submit a state constitution in order to join the Union. Northern politicians

Effects Of The Voting Rights Act Of 1965

to break down the legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented African Americans from
exercising their right to vote as it s supposed to be guaranteed under the 15th Amendment of the
U.S. Constitution. This law helped to disperse and reduce systematic discrimination that would
ultimately limit and prohibit African Americans from voting. An example of this being the literacy

However, even with them being able to strike at safe distances away, they still weren t

mammoths body parts for other uses besides food. One thing they would use them for is build
their huts and tents out of the mammoths massive bones to make the structure of the tent and
would have most likely used the skin and fur as the roofs. The fur would have also been used to
make clothing too. Other bones would have been used to make tools for digging or weapons for
hunting (Wikipedia, Woolly Mammoth, n.d.). One of the tips that were used for spears was called
the clovis point. The clovis point was the most common arrowhead that was used on spears and

Stained Glass Art Analysis
The piece of art that stuck out to me the most was the stain glass window about the virtues of
love and charity. However, I am very biased towards this piece of artwork because I helped make
it for our group window in Stained Glass. I really like this piece because I understand how much
work and effort is involved in its creation. While Sr. Kelly picked the virtues of the window, love
and charity, the creative process was entirely our own. We all brainstormed ideas of what these
virtues looked like. For some, a dove, a rose, or a tree represented love and charity. On the other
hand, specific colors represented these virtues. In the end, we collaborated our ideas into one

that the window belongs to the school because it represents the lasting impact I made at SHA.
When the light shines directly through the window, it becomes alive and the names of everyone
in my class glitter in gold letters at the bottom of the window. This window will become one of
many in a virtues collection over the years and my name will forever be etched on the first
window, which offers a subtle reminder for SHA girls to think of their sisters that came before
and paved the way for new opportunities like stained glass. In addition, I am glad that this
window in particular will remain at the school because I don t think I could part with my other
windows in which I actually had control over the color scheme and glass selection. Although, the
window did not depict exactly what I wanted, it clearly showed the virtues of love and charity,

Norton Anthology American Literature Robert Levine Analysis
Two forces of history mentioned in Volume C of Robert S. Levine s text, Norton Anthology
American Literature, are realism and naturalism. These forces relate to the literature of that time
period in different ways. Realism relates because it portrays life according to how it was at that
time, and naturalism relates because it exaggerates realism. Both of these forces of history are
important to understand life at that time through a literary standpoint.
Realism was used to refer to literary fiction that was rooted in the observation and documentation of
the details of everyday life (Levine 7). This means that the authors of that time did not solely state
facts in their work, but instead they used their own perceptions. Writers described

Descriptive Writing About Water Park
The Water Park Morgan, Morgan where are you? I shouted loudly. That was me in fear not

experiences I have ever had with her. Just a reminder for myself is to keep an eye on the people

My best friend Morgan and I have been best friends since baby care. We have been through thick
and thin for the past 12 years. Morgan s brother Gene has been doing baseball for a traveling
team since he was 8. Since he plays on a travel team they normally go out of state to play
baseball, so they usually will invite me to come. This time we were going to the state of
Wisconsin where they have cheese as yummy as candy, water parks like no others, and it is home
to the Green Bay Packers.
We got to the hotel that we were staying at for the week while we were overloaded with
excitement. This hotel even had a water park attached to the building. When Morgan and I saw the
water park our jaws dropped. It looked like a humongous play ground full water that flowed down
the slides carrying children and families down the swishing streams that threw them into the
freezing cold water at the bottom of the slide.
We were very excited to go play at the water park, so excited that we grabbed the hotel key out of

systems. The Stuxnet worm, 3 which was first reported in June 2010 by a security firm in Belarus,
appears to be the first malicious software (malware) designed specifically to attack a particular type
of ICS: one that controls nuclear plants, whether for power or uranium enrichment. The malware
attacks and disrupts a Microsoft Windows based application that is employed by a particular ICS
produced by the German company Siemens. 4 The worm can be spread through an air gapped
network by a removable device, such as a thumb drive, and possibly through computers connected
to the Internet, and it is often capable of remaining hidden from detection. It is difficult to
determine the geographic origin of the malware, as cyber attackers often employ

Unilineal Cultural Evolution
From Unilineal Cultural Evolution to Functionalism Several anthropological theories emerged
during the early twentieth century. Arguably, the most important of these was Functionalism.
Bronislaw Malinowski was a prominent anthropologist in Britain during that time and had great
influence on the development of this theory. Malinowski suggested that individuals have certain
physiological needs and that cultures develop to meet those needs. Malinowski saw those needs as
being nutrition, reproduction, shelter, and protection from enemies. He also proposed that there
were other basic, culturallyderived needs and he saw these as being economics, social control,
education, and political organization Malinowski proposed that the culture... Show more content on

She described cultures as being of four types Apollonian, Dionysian, Paranoid and Meglomaniac.
Benedict used these types to characterize various cultures that she studied.
The most famous exponent of the school of Culture and Personality is Margaret Mead. Margaret
Mead was a student of Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. Though in the course of her career she
would eclipse the fame of her tutors, particularly the latter. Mead s first field study was on the
Pacific Island of Samoa, where she studied the lives of the adolescent girls in that culture. From this
field study, she produced her famous work Coming of Age in Samoa (1949). In this work, she
investigated the relationship between culture and personality by comparing the lives of adolescents
in Samoa to those of American youths. She concentrated particularly on the sexual experiences of
the girls she studied in Samoan culture; drawing the conclusion that the sexually permissive
atmosphere of Samoan culture produced healthier less stormy adolescents than that of her own
more repressed American culture.
The theories of Culture and Personality and Functionalism addressed and rebutted many of the more
quaint aspects of the Evolutionary and Diffusionist theories of the nineteenth century. The
methodology developed by these pioneers is still in use by anthropologists today. That is,
participant observation and a complete involvement in the culture and language of the people being

Investment in Human Capital One of the biggest assets a company can have is its human
capital. The quality of employees and the extent to which these employees are trained will
definitely determine the failure or success of the organization. When an individual has worked
for a company for a number of years they gain an expertise and knowledge that can t be easily
replaced. The knowledge that person has is sometimes an even greater cost than the previously
mentioned liabilities incurred when they are lost. This type of loss goes beyond just being a
mere monetary loss. The skill set of person allows them to perform job duties that provide
economic value to the company and/or its products or services. Motivated people are always
seeking advancement and anticipating the next career move. If the company doesn t provide any
lateral or upward mobility for its people the turnover rate may be increased by the glass ceiling that
stops the employees from moving up. A part of investing in human capital is to provide ongoing
training and development that allows people to gain the necessary experience to become flexible in
the company. This must also be coupled with incentives like promotion guarantee, bonuses, or
raises. Compensation Compensation is the

Themes Of Avatar
In the 21st century, movies present a platform for ideas and themes to be conveyed through a
screen. Themes of change, environmental crisis, love, and death are all only a few of the most
common themes that circulate through the Hollywood film industry. According to Annalee Newitz
in her essay When Will White PeopleStop Making Movies Like Avatar? , a recurring theme she s
noticed is the theme of white guilt. In her essay, Newitz depicts the movie Avatar as nothing more
than a colorful rehash of this (apparently) common white guilt scenario. This is where the main
white protagonist leaves the oppressive (white) side to join the oppressed native side upon seeing
the error of his ways. Some Americans, including Newitz, believe that movies... Show more content

Furthermore, when Jake Sully became their leader so to speak, he had already submitted himself
to the Na vi life and made sure to prove his strength as a Na vi, not as a white man. His intention
at that point of the movie was not even to take over as the tribe leader, but rather just to lead his
new family to fight for their land. Another white fantasy observation Newitz makes in her essay is
that the white protagonist always becomes the savior. This is hardly the truth in the Avatar s case.
Throughout the film, Jake is rescued by Neytiri and the Na vi numerous times. Even after the final
battle is over, it is Neytiri who saves his life when he begins to suffocate in his human form. Also,
rather than Jake saving the day during the final battle, the film focuses on the fact that Jake is
unable to combat the opposing side single handedly, and can only succeed with the aid of his Na vi
brethren. In other words, rather than the white man saving the day, it was the teamwork of his
native friends that made the win possible. Admittedly, the start of the movie illustrates the concept
of one species (the humans) infiltrating another s (The Navi s) homeland. This was purposeful, as
the producer James Cameron wanted to represent the way Europeans invaded Native American
lands many years ago. However, this historical correlation was not created based on racial matters,
but rather to show the negative effects of imperialism. James Cameron told The

The Lucid Dreaming And How Can It Be A Method Of...
Introduction
Those who experience lucid dreaming in the stage of REM sleep are aware of their dreams and
able to control their dreams. Lucid dreaming could be a possible treatment for those with post
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who suffer from nightmares. During lucid dreaming in a
nightmare, the PTSD patients would be able to let go of their fear by recognizing the threats
they have in their dreams are not real. PTSD patients can also transform their dreams into
something more pleasant or try to wake up from their sleep. A case study proved this idea to be
true; the reoccurring dreams the patients would experience were going away after they were
introduced into lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming could be difficult to accomplish, but there are
several techniques that can trigger lucid dreaming. For a period of time, researchers have been
pondering and searching for ways to help those who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder.
This topic is interesting to investigate lucid dreaming and how can it be a method of psychotherapy
for posttraumatic stress disorder. During this research, online, primary, and book resources were
used. Therefore, this essay will deal with the following research question: How can lucid dreaming
be used as a method of psychotherapy in those who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder?
What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?
Post traumatic stress disorder is an anxiety disorder that is developed after experiencing a

Flexibility and Adaptability of Youth Movements
Mohamed chased after his 15 years old brother who secretly escaped to Syria to fight and be hailed
a hero, just as his brother was after fighting in the Libyan revolution. Disbelieving, disappointed and
devalued, Mohamed says it s our fault, we started a revolution and didn t finish it (Olivesi, 2014).
His words sum up the contextual reality of many of the countries affected by the Arab Spring, not
only in terms of the power youth asserted to demand change, but also their diminishing reflection
that mirrors their helplessness throughout transcending societal spheres, as they once again become
triumphed by institutional backwardness, prolonged elitism, corruption and socio economic
demands that are yet to be acknowledged. Even though Samuel Huntington (as cited in Kuhn, 2012)
warned policy markers that too speedy modernization could result in rising expectations, popular
anger and violent revolutions, the Arab Spring was long overdue and even though Egypt, Tunisia
and Libyaare not identical cases, their Arabness (Hayes, 2011) united them and garnered the
mobilization effort to challenge the status quo.
Foucault suggests addressing resistance as a chemical catalyst so as to bring light to power
relations, locate their positions and find out their point of application and methods used (780). The
Arab Spring marked a historic event that propelled youth agency and power into the spotlight
through media and the internet as their demands, aspirations and grievances were heard

A Study On Scottish Football Clubs
The focus of this study is on Scottish football clubs that competed in the top two tiers of the league
during the 2014 2015 season, using two club interviews to gain a further insight. It was made clear
in the conclusions of the literature review that the contribution of CSR activities by Scottish
football clubs to the game in Scotland was not clearly understood and so therefore this study
contained three consecutive objectives. These were to:
1.Investigate the CSR measures adopted by Scottish professional football clubs between August
2014 and July 2015, as well as on club websites in July 2016, to distinguish what kind of social and
environmental initiatives have been launched.
2.Evaluate the similarities and differences between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the issue of potential limitations and problems with the chosen strategy will be
discussed, along with any implications this may have had.
Research Strategy
A case study approach was chosen as the research strategy. Yin (2013) describes a case study as:
...an empirical inquiry that investigates a contemporary phenomenon within its real life context,
especially when the boundaries between phenomenon and context are not clearly evident
It is of particular use when the area of investigation is less well developed (Eisenhardt, 1989),
using this methodology allows for multi level analysis to be carried out in terms of this study
secondary data analysis and employee interviews. This research is concerned with an in depth
study of the priorities and motivations behind why Scottish football clubs in particular, participate
in CSR activities and will continue to do so in the future. For example, the review of the literature
showed clearly that corporate social responsibility is an essential aspect of continued added value to
a sports team, however it does not explain how football clubs prioritise their social and/or
environmental projects or combat the theory of sports organisations using CSR for financial gain.
Furthermore, the literature review states that stakeholder theory plays an important part in the
decision making processes within football clubs, yet there is no firm evidence to suggest

Methuselah is a parrot character in The Poisonwood Bible written by Barbara Kingsolver. The
novel is set in the late 20th century in a village of The Congo call Kilanga. Methuselah is a
parrot who is left by brother Fowls for the Price family. He has been denied freedom for very
long and has been kept in a cage. Later when Nathan Price sets him free, he has no idea what to
do with his independence. So he keeps flying near the Price house and depends on the Price girls
for food. When Congo s independence is announced, Methuselah gets killed and eaten by a cat. The

The Belgians had colonized The Congo for its natural resources like many other western powers
at the time that aimed for no more than have dominion on every creature that moved upon this
earth (10) as it is confessed by Orleanna at the beginning of the novel. In a very similar way,
Methuselah was kept in a cage by the humans against its will only because it was a weaker
creature. Just like The Congo, Methuselah is not allowed the freedom of speech as every time he
says something, Nathan Price gets mad and inquires which one of [the daughters] taught [it] to
say that word (76). In a similar way, The Congo is denied the freedom of speech and is not
considered as a sovereign state. The effects of the colonization of The Congo can still be seen as
the country could not cope up with it even after half a century. The country remains poor and
divided as it is not used to work on its own and enjoy the freedom of living. The same happens
with Methuselah after Nathan tells him that (he is) free to go (94) and grants him freedom.
Methuselah had forgotten what freedom feels like and it goes and then it comes back because its
wings aren t any count (133). Because of this Methuselah cannot survive on its own and later he
gets killed and eaten by a cat. Comparing Methuselah with hope Adah declares that she had found
hope fallen already (185) and she adds that a piece of it [was there] beside their latrine, one red

Fairfield Greenwich Group claimed a loss of $7 billion that has vaporized with Bernie Madoff
(Blodget, H., April 1, 2009). The Fairfield Greenwich assured their e clients that they did their
due diligence by thoroughly researched Madoff by learning about their managers, operational

a couple of months to see what kind of results he is getting. The group is being sued by

The Destruction Of The Habitat
The first cost that should always be related to a surface water area is the destruction of the habitat.
Once a habitat is destroyed it is hard and expensive to recover, if it can ever be recovered.
Sometimes destruction is irreversible. According to Myers Kent, Well over half of the human
population lives within 100 km of the coasts (Myers Kent, 2015). Agricultural lands surrounding
these areas, along with other pollution from the metro areas are leading to the destruction on
numerous habitats. As this increase in these area of nitrogencontinue to rise, the nitrogen continues
to pass on through the food chain. It is not just the immediate area that surrounds the surface water
that can suffer, but as birds, reptiles, and mammals also frequently use surface water, and pass
through the area, the nitrogen can have a multiplying effect as it passes from species to the next
species (Myers Kent, 2015). One fish may contain nitrogen levels that are still non lethal, but when
a bird or other species feeds on multiple fish this nitrogen level can increase inside the bird.
Destruction of habitat is not the only effect of nitrogen pollution, and agriculturewhere it may be the
leading problem, is not entirely at fault.
The largest reason for agriculture is the planet s growing population. This is the true reason that
agriculture is growing causing more and more issues with nitrogen pollution. This planet s
population is growing at an alarming rate, and in order to

Descriptive Essay On Computer Store
It s 8:59 A.M. on a Saturday, and I am waiting with my dad in his car. It is the only car in the strip
mall parking lot. I am antsy to get my repaired computer back to play games. A small silver car
pulls in next to us and out walks a college aged guy that smells of a stale smoke. My dad hands
me some cash and I walk into the store behind the young guy as he turns on the lights of the
computerstore.
You come to pick up a computer? the young smoker asks me while he boots up the store s main
computer. He is polite and asks me questions about some of my hobbies; I tell him my
fascination with electronics and how I ve been wanting to build my own computer. I glance
around the store and stare at the variety of computers, devices, and printers within the store. The
printers are piled on top of each other blanketed in a layer of dust. Parts are overflowing from the
shelves, making a thin walkable path throughout the store. Vast amounts of various computer
components are scattered on tables, and there is a stack of desktop computers piled to the
ceiling. This store is a messy computer museum! It s an unorganized chaos, but I am mesmerized.
As I am waiting for the man to print my bill, a middle aged man enters the store and heads
straight to a private cubicle with privacy provided by a sheet of plywood. He is immediately on
the phone with an agitated voice with what must be a customer, creating a sense of discomfort.

Gothic Elements of Castle of Otranto Does Castle of Otranto have all characteristics of gothic
literature? Is this novel enough to create a gothic atmosphere? These questions make us need

which influence the plot and settings. It might be know that Castle of Otranto is generally
regarded as the first gothic novel. It means that this novel created some of the characteristics of

In the good texts, timing and language can not be separated. Because they influence each other.
By creating this kind of language which is a good example for that time s language, the writer
show how he creates the suspense. The language of the novel is effective enough to make us
feel frightened, curious and felt like that these characters literally lived these moments in that
era. The mysterious issues have an important place in the text. For example, curse is the element
which completes the gothic style in this novel. The castle and lordship of Otranto should pass
from the present family, whenever the real owner should be grown to large to inhabit it. The
curse, in the text, creates a tension, especially if we consider its conclusions. Generally, in
Gothic, there should be supernatural elements like in Castle of Otranto. For example, Conrad
being crushed by a helmet, as well as Diego and Jacquez s finding of the giant armored corpse.
Ghosts also are represented throughout the text. For examples; the armor which moves belongs
to Alfonso who is not restful. In the first chapter we also see father of Manfred as a ghost which
can move in and out of the picture and slap the door in front of Manfred. As a conclusion, it has
several features which belongs to gothic literature. In doing so, The Castle of Otranto is a perfect
example of gothic

Should Police Use Deadly Force Research Paper
Should police be able to use deadly force? Deadly force is used by an officer, to defend
themselves from life threatening assault against other people. Police must protect themselves and
others as a citizen they serve. It may not happen as much as we think, but in certain incidents, there
are times it is used (Williams, 1999). My opinion about deadly forceis there is a right time to use it
and a wrong way. The right way to me is when policeenter a situation in gunfire being exchanged
between an officer and a person the officer is then at risk of losing his life and to protect anyone
around and the officer, then deadly force must then take place. Basically, as soon a person was to

However, if he is not tied in with others, still may go and commit dangerous crimes and put
everyone at danger. When using deadly force, we save an officers life and stopped a criminal
from hurting others (Williams, 1996). My opinion in using deadly force the wrong way is when
an officer is chasing someone and they shoot them point blank. I do not agree with that as the
person is running to get away from the problem, as there are other things that could be done such
as tazered the person to get them to fall down a resist. I just feel you must know how to act
accordingly with each different situation to protect yourself and the other around, because when
you go to court to convict the defendant to charge them you must have done the right thing and
evidence of it to back it up. The police deal with people every day, who seem to kill. When
officers are forced to use deadly force, they become scared. The police avoid deadly force at all
cost. When they do fire they first shoot into the air, missing the target on purpose. This happens
so the person will hopefully become scared and will put the weapon down (Williams, 1999).
Police must be quick and alert when dealing with a deadly force situation. The police must do and
choose the right choices when dealing with a situation, because if they do anything unethical can

With the proliferation of threats and uncertainty of the security environment, the role of the army
has become increasingly central in protecting the American interests. Since the realization of this
mission is a collective task, leadership remains the best way to give commanders, at every

environment to ensure the achievement of objectives. The case of the 4th ABCT presents clear
evidence in this area. Three years ago, it was considered one of the best maneuver brigades in

A Study On Alzheimer s Project
Alzheimer s Project As we get older as time goes on there are multiple hardships that a human
encounter and a major one is Alzheimer s disease. As I chose to pursue a nursing degree I realize
that I will see this disease in my future career and I also recognize that it is one of the hardest to
cope with. I m aware that I will be working with the elderly and it is highly likely that a few
might have the diagnosis of Alzheimer s disease. This disease puts stress not only on the patient
but also on the caregivers which most likely end up being family. They watch a person they
knew their entire life change into a totally different person and they have to deal with the fact
that there is nothing they can do about it. They only have the ability to remember how that
person used to be and realize that the individual with AD didn t choose to change into the person
they are now. The person you once knew can control their emotions or actions. They say things
and do things that they never would have done or said before. Aging is a hard to deal with and
adding a disease to the mix can take a hefty toll not only on the individual but on the family as
well. Alzheimer s disease takes a person away from their family because they are not the person
they used to be. There are treatments that can help the symptoms but it can bring the person you
knew back. In this paper I will research the various symptoms of the disease as well as the
diagnosis and the treatment. I will also expand on the

Catherine Salvation Army Revival Essay
Catherine was largely influenced by Charles Finney and the Wesley brothers because of her years
as a child on bedrest. The foundation of her Christianity was in Methodism so, while in her early
years she agreed with the Methodist theology, as she grew in her own relationship with God and
established her own convictions, many of her beliefs began to part ways with those of the
methodists. However this was largely due to the negative change in Methodism, not the original
teachings of the Wesley brothers. The Salvation Armyrevival was quite different than revivals of
the past in a few crucial ways. In fact, it is safe to safe it was the first revival of its kind. The
main difference lies in the focus of the revival. For example, the Wesleyan revival, in which both
Catherine and William had their roots, focused only on the salvation of souls and reaching the lost
with the gospel. While that was a major focus of the Salvation Army Revival, William and

I believe one reason for this was simply the willingness of Catherine to obey the prompting of the
Lord. She was so eager to follow the calling of God on her life, even if it meant risking her health,
breaking away from the church of her family, and completely going against the social norms for
women in her day. That is a quality that few people in her day and in ours posses, and I think
that is and integral reason for why God was able to use her so powerfully. Another reason I believe
Catherine and The Salvation Army s work was so successful was owing to the fact that the
social reform and charitable ministry to the poor was so needed at that time. I think God was
looking for someone who would care for people s bodies and physical wellbeing as well as their
spiritual wellbeing. I think God was looking for someone who wasn t afraid to do what it would
take to see a visible change in the

INTRODUCTION Sudan takes on the meaning of Land of Blacks (Sudan, n.p.g В¶4) and is
located in east central Africa. South Sudan which borders with five other African nations;

Sudan is currently a state that is considered to be one of the most vulnerable countries in the

conflicts. This report will also identify and discuss the main causes. Moreover, the report will also

Frankenstein Character Analysis
When children trip and fall on the ground, they learn how to get up and avoid falling again. Similar
to this, people adjust to their life situations and learn from their previous mistakes. Frankenstein, by
Mary Shelley, exemplifies this attribute through Victor Frankenstein, who is an intelligent and
hardworking scientist. His curiosity and passion drives him to create life out of death, but he
becomes hubristic and winds up creating a monster. This creation results in Victor s great suffering
as it eliminates his family and friends. The monster makes its intentions clear and Victor is aware
of its supernatural powers. Likewise, Victor realizes that his excessive pridecaused all these
miserable outcomes. Despite this, Frankensteinstill maintains the same mentality, even after the
monster s warnings and the horrific events. Although Victor seems to have learned from the
consequences of making the monster, he still fails to change from his arrogant mindset since his
ego misleads him towards outcomes that are more dreadful.
Victor notices the patterns of his creature s revenge and understands the damage that it could bring.
After undergoing the murder of his brother William and hearing the monster s narrative, Victor is
aware that the monster is targeting his close family and friends. Moreover, he understands that it
has supernatural abilities as he brought this creature into being and saw its actions. But even with
this knowledge, Victor is still confident in his own ideas

The groups I have chosen to cover are: Puerto Rican, Mexican, Dominican and Cuban. Included in the paper will be each group s linguistic, social, economical, political, familial and religious ties or beliefs. Hispanic American Diversity Puerto Rican Puerto Rico s linguistic background is strongly defined by Spanish and English. Most Puerto Ricans speak both languages fluently and use both in everyday life such as; work, travel and communication. It is also considered offensive to turn down a meal or gift from an individual. Puerto Rico is not a rich island. Most families are considered middle or lower class due to the lack of job options. It is not very common for someone of Puerto Rican decent to attend college or higher education; the norm is to work instead. The religion of most Puerto Ricans is Roman Catholic, although very few actually attend services. Spiritualism is also very common; many Puerto Ricans blend Catholicism with other traditions like spiritualism, an idea that spirits of the deceased roam the island. Family is very important to Puerto Ricans. They do not usually live in the same homes, but they do live near or in the same town as their loved ones. This gives grandparents the option to offer child care when needed; like when both mom and dad work. Living close to relatives also makes it easy to visit one another often. Most Puerto Rican homes have at least three children that do not leave home until they are married. They grow with the strict understanding of respect for their elders and are expected to take care of their loved ones when they get old. Mexican Spanish is a significant joining power in the Mexican American community. Mexican Americans will not forget their native tongue; though equally, English and Spanish are spoken in ... The hippocampus is a larger region that is very simply, involved in memory. Brain imaging studies of PTSD sufferers shows two things, it reduces activity in the vmPFC and increased activity in the amygdala. The long studies showed that in PTSD the vmPFC is sleep at the wheel, allowing the amygdala to go unchecked that more likely produces many of the intense anxiety symptoms that make it the key feature of PTSD. Dante is accompanied by his guide Virgil, who takes him on a journey to examine sin and the effects it has in has in the afterlife to different sinners. Through the stories of Francesca and Paolo, Brunetto Latini, Ulysses and Guido da Montefeltro, we are able to understand that people are self interested in the way they act and present themselves to others and that those in Hell are there because they have sinned and failed to repent their sins and moral failings. Francesca was married to Paolo s brother and one day while Francesca and Paolo were reading the story of Lancelot and Guinevere, and when they got to the romantic part of the story they confessed to each other and kissed. Francesca s husband found out shortly after and had both of them killed. Francesca s sin was not only adultery, but also failure to accept her own responsibility for her actions. In the story of Lancelot is about the fall of Camelot and the consequence of adultery, which shows that Francesca and Paolo knew what they were getting themselves into and that there would be consequences. Francesca blamed Paolo for everything, as if she didn t have control over anything that happened. This is shown when Francesca is explaining to Dante why she is in hell. Love, that excuses no one loved from loving, seized me so strongly with delight in him, (Dante, Inferno, V, line 103 104). From this we can clearly see how she is completing blaming her actions solely on love rather than standing up and taking responsibility for the actions she has committed. She said that love held her down so strongly that it drew her to Paolo and that she had no way of escaping. After hearing this, Dante becomes faint, for Francesca has seduced him, she disguised her sin with a love story, making it sound like she had no fault at all. From the story ... Ineffective cleaning programs can potentially result in pathogenic outbreaks in a manufacturing facility. An environmental monitoring program is typically used to help a company determine how effective their sanitation program is. The FDA recommends an environmental monitoring program designed to detect areas of pathogen harborage and to verify the effectiveness of cleaning and sanitizing programs in preventing cross contamination (2008). Even though pathogen hits are rare in the production facility at Symrise, environmental monitoring is necessary to document the state of control of the plant to ensure food safety and to confirm that good manufacturing processes are met. Often projects find that orange juices made from frozen concentrated orange juice (FCOJ) have the highest vitamin C levels as compared to freshly squeezed or not from concentrate (NFC) juices. This is probably due to the fact that vitamin C degrades over time in fresh and NFC, but doesn t degrade as much in FCOJ due to it being frozen until reconstitution. If one is comparing a NFC product that has been stored for about 3 weeks versus a newly reconstituted FCOJ, the FCOJ would almost certainly have a higher vitamin C concentration. The expansion of slavery deteriorated already terrible conditions for slaves; slave families would be separated and many female slaves faced imminent forced reproduction with studs or white males. Both of these forces of history are important to understand life at that time through a literary standpoint. Realism was used to refer to literary fiction that was rooted in the observation and documentation of the details of everyday life (Levine 7). Mead s first field study was on the Pacific Island of Samoa, where she studied the lives of the adolescent girls in that culture. From this field study, she produced her famous work Coming of Age in Samoa (1949). In this work, she investigated the relationship between culture and personality by comparing the lives of adolescents in Samoa to those of American youths. She concentrated particularly on the sexual experiences of the girls she studied in Samoan culture; drawing the conclusion that the sexually permissive atmosphere of Samoan culture produced healthier less stormy adolescents than that of her own more repressed American culture. The theories of Culture and Personality and Functionalism addressed and rebutted many of the more quaint aspects of the Evolutionary and Diffusionist theories of the nineteenth century. Themes of change, environmental crisis, love, and death are all only a few of the most common themes that circulate through the Hollywood film industry. In her essay, Newitz depicts the movie Avatar as nothing more than a colorful rehash of this (apparently) common white guilt scenario. Another white fantasy observation Newitz makes in her essay is that the white protagonist always becomes the savior. This is hardly the truth in the Avatar s case. Throughout the film, Jake is rescued by Neytiri and the Na vi numerous times. Even after the final battle is over, it is Neytiri who saves his life when he begins to suffocate in his human form. Also, rather than Jake saving the day during the final battle, the film focuses on the fact that Jake is unable to combat the opposing side single handedly, and can only succeed with the aid of his Na vi brethren. His words sum up the contextual reality of many of the countries affected by the Arab Spring, not only in terms of the power youth asserted to demand change, but also their diminishing reflection that mirrors their helplessness throughout transcending societal spheres, as they once again become triumphed by institutional backwardness, prolonged elitism, corruption and socio economic demands that are yet to be acknowledged. Methuselah had forgotten what freedom feels like and it goes and then it comes back because its wings aren t any count (133). Because of this Methuselah cannot survive on its own and later he gets killed and eaten by a cat. Madoff Ponzi Scheme And Whistleblowers Madoff Ponzi Scheme and Whistleblowers Due diligence is A comprehensive appraisal of a business undertaken by a prospective buyer, especially to establish its assets and liabilities and evaluate its commercial potential. (Oxford Dictionaries). Every investor and self respecting business should do their homework before trusting any other business with their money. Fairfield Greenwich Group claimed a loss of $7 billion that has vaporized with Bernie Madoff (Blodget, H., April 1, 2009). The Fairfield Greenwich assured their e clients that they did their due diligence by thoroughly researched Madoff by learning about their managers, operational practices, staff, and infrastructure. The group also said that they have higher standards and sorting process than any other average consulting firm (Blodget). However, FGG were also supposed to analyze Madoff s trading records. Apparently, they did not do their proper due diligence because Madoff did not have trading records; thus, it was impossible to replicate and analyze those essential documents. In addition, FGG needed to at least, monitor his activities for a couple of months to see what kind of results he is getting. The group is being sued by Massachusetts regulators for not doing due diligence that they claimed they did, misleading their clients, and investing more than a half of their assets into Madoff s firm (Henriques, D.B., April 1, 2009). • 30. The Destruction Of The Habitat The first cost that should always be related to a surface water area is the destruction of the habitat. Once a habitat is destroyed it is hard and expensive to recover, if it can ever be recovered. Sometimes destruction is irreversible. According to Myers Kent, Well over half of the human population lives within 100 km of the coasts (Myers Kent, 2015). Agricultural lands surrounding these areas, along with other pollution from the metro areas are leading to the destruction on numerous habitats. As this increase in these area of nitrogencontinue to rise, the nitrogen continues to pass on through the food chain. It is not just the immediate area that surrounds the surface water that can suffer, but as birds, reptiles, and mammals also frequently use surface water, and pass through the area, the nitrogen can have a multiplying effect as it passes from species to the next species (Myers Kent, 2015). One fish may contain nitrogen levels that are still non lethal, but when a bird or other species feeds on multiple fish this nitrogen level can increase inside the bird. Destruction of habitat is not the only effect of nitrogen pollution, and agriculturewhere it may be the leading problem, is not entirely at fault. The largest reason for agriculture is the planet s growing population. This is the true reason that agriculture is growing causing more and more issues with nitrogen pollution. This planet s population is growing at an alarming rate, and in order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Descriptive Essay On Computer Store It s 8:59 A.M. on a Saturday, and I am waiting with my dad in his car. It is the only car in the strip mall parking lot. I am antsy to get my repaired computer back to play games. A small silver car pulls in next to us and out walks a college aged guy that smells of a stale smoke. My dad hands me some cash and I walk into the store behind the young guy as he turns on the lights of the computerstore. You come to pick up a computer? the young smoker asks me while he boots up the store s main computer. He is polite and asks me questions about some of my hobbies; I tell him my fascination with electronics and how I ve been wanting to build my own computer. I glance around the store and stare at the variety of computers, devices, and printers within the store. The printers are piled on top of each other blanketed in a layer of dust. Parts are overflowing from the shelves, making a thin walkable path throughout the store. Vast amounts of various computer components are scattered on tables, and there is a stack of desktop computers piled to the ceiling. This store is a messy computer museum! It s an unorganized chaos, but I am mesmerized. As I am waiting for the man to print my bill, a middle aged man enters the store and heads straight to a private cubicle with privacy provided by a sheet of plywood. He is immediately on the phone with an agitated voice with what must be a customer, creating a sense of discomfort. Justin? He asks me but I don t hear him, Is your name ... By creating this kind of language which is a good example for that time s language, the writer show how he creates the suspense. The language of the novel is effective enough to make us feel frightened, curious and felt like that these characters literally lived these moments in that era. The mysterious issues have an important place in the text. For example, curse is the element which completes the gothic style in this novel. The castle and lordship of Otranto should pass from the present family, whenever the real owner should be grown to large to inhabit it. The curse, in the text, creates a tension, especially if we consider its conclusions. Generally, in Gothic, there should be supernatural elements like in Castle of Otranto. For example, Conrad being crushed by a helmet, as well as Diego and Jacquez s finding of the giant armored corpse. Ghosts also are represented throughout the text. • 33. Should Police Use Deadly Force Research Paper Should police be able to use deadly force? Deadly force is used by an officer, to defend themselves from life threatening assault against other people. Police must protect themselves and others as a citizen they serve. It may not happen as much as we think, but in certain incidents, there are times it is used (Williams, 1999). My opinion about deadly forceis there is a right time to use it and a wrong way. The right way to me is when policeenter a situation in gunfire being exchanged between an officer and a person the officer is then at risk of losing his life and to protect anyone around and the officer, then deadly force must then take place. However, if he is not tied in with others, still may go and commit dangerous crimes and put everyone at danger. When using deadly force, we save an officers life and stopped a criminal from hurting others (Williams, 1996). My opinion in using deadly force the wrong way is when an officer is chasing someone and they shoot them point blank. I do not agree with that as the person is running to get away from the problem, as there are other things that could be done such as tazered the person to get them to fall down a resist. I just feel you must know how to act accordingly with each different situation to protect yourself and the other around, because when you go to court to convict the defendant to charge them you must have done the right thing and evidence of it to back it up. The police deal with people every day, who seem to kill. When officers are forced to use deadly force, they become scared. The police avoid deadly force at all cost. When they do fire they first shoot into the air, missing the target on purpose. This happens so the person will hopefully become scared and will put the weapon down (Williams, 1999).
