Comparing Machiavelli s The Prince And Letter To Francesco...
Niccolo Machiavelli, a Renaissance philosopher and historian, is regarded as one of the founders
of classical political philosophy and political science. To this day, scholars continue to debate
whether the Florencian writer is more sympathetic to the few or the many. With some of his texts
containing views contradicting the others, it is difficult to contend whether or not the philosopher
is a true democrat. Despite many of Machiavelli s seemingly democratic views and ideas, his
personal ideology appears to be more of a Republican nature. His republicanismis most informed by
his remarks on the people, nobles, and ideal state structure. Through analysis of his writings in The
Prince and The Discourses , and his Letter to Francesco Vettori,... Show more content on

If there is a minority, then the majority is much too large and may even impede on it. Democrats
govern by the masses according to majority rule, leading to critics labeling the structure as a
tyranny of the majority because of the lack of legal preservation of rights. For republicans,
however, justice is administered accordingly with set rules and guidelines, so as not to infringe
upon the minority. Machiavelli recognized the ongoing tensions between the few and many,
each trying to control the other, but never regarded it as an issue. In Discourses he writes, In
every republic there are two different inclinations: that of the people and that of the upper class,
and that all the laws which are made in favor of liberty are born of the conflict between the two.
(I IV). Here, Machiavelli actually sees this conflict as a source of political stability, necessary for
the growth of every Republic. Without tension, that would mean there is no coexistence between
regimes and only a single type left to dominate the platform. The existence of a dominant upper
class was necessary to keep a Republic in check; otherwise a, democracy could emerge and
dominate the political sphere. Machiavelli s sympathy to the few emerges from his view of human
nature. The reason why the philosopher has many critics is because his writings tend to sound quite
evil, dark, and gruesome in nature. To others,

Tones At Past Two Tone
There are two main tones in this story, a happy one and a gloomy one. These both tones come
together in the poem to create the theme of desires and significance in life. The poem first
begins with a happy tone. The old man in the story is happy and welcomes/accepts his chances
of dying. This is shown by him saying things like he is ready for heaven and is finally done with
picking apples. In line eight he says, I am dosing off, he is indicating that he has finished
everything planned and is ready for his judgment. I believe that this tone sets up the theme of
desires and the significance in life, but does not necessarily complete it. As we keep reading
through the poem, it starts to introduce a sad mood. He starts accepting his fate when

Societal Values Of The Puritans
The Puritans have been portrayed to be a society which lives based on values, and very strict
interpretations of those values. Societal values revolve around the Puritan religion, with the main
idea being that God had made a covenant with their people to live according to the Scripture and to
set an example for other societies to follow. With God s covenant in mind, the Puritans lived a very
straightforward, yet tense life. Through Puritanliterature, it is clear the lives of the Puritans were
based around the covenant between God and the society, with any mistakes leading to
punishment and fear within the people causing the inevitable demise of Puritan society. The
Puritans lived a life in which there was a very fine line between what was agreeing with God s
covenant, and what was going against the agreement. Much of the actions taken by the Puritans
was not to help themselves, but rather to please God. In their voyage to Cape Cod, the Puritans
were faced with many challenges, yet they never backed down, because it was God s will they
succeed, So they committed themselves to the will of God and resolved to proceed, (Bradford ,
Of Plymouth Plantation (26)). Because the Puritan s believed God s strong assertion for their
society to succeed and to follow through on the covenant, they kept sailing until the ship landed at
Cape Cod. Moreover, the passengers and sailors on the ship were faced with fear that if they failed
to reach the New World, it would be a failure on

me. I didn t,t look back as they cal no pleaded for me to return. I stubbornly ignored them but
quickly regarded it as their voices became more clear, He s there! Don t go near him! No one
returns! Suddenly the darkness covered me, eating me whole. Music, that s the first thing I
noticed. The tune that filled my ears reminded me of a children s song. The medley was soft but
had this odd second tune mixed in, it sent chills down my spine. Then there was a wild wind
blowing from the left of me? It was all so hard to tell with the darkness around me. Finally, it all

Greed In King Lear
To begin with, King Lear is tragic play written by William Shakespeare that revolves around the
themes of greed and selfishness. Furthermore, the play begins with the king of Britain, Lear, who
decides to step down from the throne and divide his kingdom into three parts for his three
daughters. To determine who will receive the largest share of the kingdom, King Learwants them to
express their love for him to see who loves him the most. The two oldest daughters, Goneril and

him stay in their castles. Lear slowly starts to go insane and flees during a thunderstorm
accompanied by the fool and Kent. The other problem is Edmund, the illegitimate son, who
tricks his Gloucester into believing son, Edgar, plans to kill him in order to keep everything he

How Has Technology Influenced The Music Industry
How Technological Advances Influenced the Music Industry
Taking a look back into at the history of America can make one realize just how privileged society
is today. Not long ago, people did not have the luxury of technology. Technology has greatly
influenced the way people learn, communicate, and act, but people are not the only thing that
technology has had an effect on. Throughout American history there have been many technological
advancements that influenced the making, recording, and mobilization of music.
In today s world people listen to music daily, but no one stops to think about how today s music
came to be. From the early 1900s to today the idea of music has been evolving to fit the technology
we have. Before the popularity of music spread, people had to physically play, or go and find a live

Before music was able to be made, people had to watch live music and go to live shows. Then,
phonographs, more commonly known as record players, were created in 1877 by Thomas
Edison, which allowed people to listen to music at their house (Wilkinson 14 15). Records were
created by vibrations hitting a receiver, a cylinder wrapped in tin foil and a thin membrane, or
diaphragm, all attached to a needle. Sound waves would cause vibrations on the needle, therefore
sketching the waves into the record. When the record was plugged in and the needle ran back
over the waves it would repeat the sounds that created the initial vibrations (Wilkinson 15).
Records were only the beginning of take home music. Soon, technology allowed different
machines to pick up radio waves and play audio live as it was happening. Less than twenty years

Essay on Langston Hughes The Weary Blues
Langston Hughes The Weary Blues
Jazz music is often associated with long, lazy melodies and ornate rhythmical patterns. The Blues, a
type of jazz, also follows this similar style. Langston Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, is no
exception. The sound qualities that make up Hughes work are intricate, yet quite apparent. Hughes
use of consonance, assonance, onomatopoeia, and rhyme in The Weary Bluesgives the poem a deep
feeling of sorrow while, at the same time, allows the reader to feel as if he or she is actually
listening to the blues sung by the poem s character.
The Blues musical move was prominent during the 1920s and 30s, a time known as the Harlem
Renaissance. Blues music characteristically told the story of ... Show more content on

Another place that consonance is apparent is in line 5, ?pale, dull pallor of an old gas light. The
sticky l sounds are difficult to produce off of the tongue quickly; therefore, these words slow the
poem down. This is typical of the blues. The slow sounds of blues music are incorporated in the
words of this poem. It seems as if the words with the l sounds get extra emphasis, as well, because
they are so difficult to pronounce. Added strength through word sounds helps boost the poem s
glumness.
Line 10 is another excellent example of consonance in The Weary Blues. The m and p sounds of
He made that poor piano moan with melody give the poem a juxtaposition of warm sounds from
the m to aggressive tones with the sharp p. This is a nice element as it is characteristic of blues
music, as well. Usually there are some elements of comfort and disdain within the blues. The
contrast of the m and p sounds highlights this very well.
There is a great amount of assonance in The Weary Blues. The first example of assonance comes
right away in the poem. Line 1 opens with the long o sound in Droning a drowsy syncopated tune
and continues with Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon in line 2. This long o sound is
representative of the forlorn blues aforementioned. The long o is repeated throughout the poem, for
example in line 10 with

Familiar Spirit Definition
Today, it is not uncommon to see a witch depicted with familiar spirit or guide, referred to as
simply familiar. Popular depictions of these companions include the black cat and the crow or
raven. This image of a witch and her usually animal sidekick has been made popular through
contemporary media, especially films. However, the general majority being acquainted with the
visual does not suggest a complete understanding of familiars. The popular misconception suggests
that familiars are either pets or perform menial favors for witches, such as eavesdropping.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a familiar spiritis a spirit, often taking the form of an
animal, which obeys and assists a witch or other person. Thus, the animal is not... Show more

Mother Cunny, an accused witch in a pamphlet in More Executions at Chelmsford, asks a ferret,
In the name of God, what art thou? and the ferret answered, I am Satan (188). This concept is not
only readily available in the pamphlets, but in fictional texts as well. The familiar in the play,
The Witch of Edmonton, is a common dog, aptly named Dog, who, when asked what he is,
answers: the Devil (2.1.123). However, not all familiar spirits come in the form of an animal,
such as Ariel in Shakespeare s The Tempest, where Ariel s form is never specified; while Ariel is
generally referred with male pronouns, the play also does not specify his gender either. Moreover,
it is suggested that Ariel appears to be human, but is not actually human; in 5.1, he admits he
would feel pity ... were I human to which Prospero explains that Ariel is art but air, further
establishing Ariel s spirit like quality. Another non animal familiar is Mephistopheles from
Christopher Marlowe s play Doctor Faustus. In the play, Mephistopheles appears to Faustus in his
demonic form, leading Faustus to demand, I charge thee to return and change they shape, / Thou
art too ugly to attend on me, / Go, and return an old Franciscan friar (1.3.266 8). Consequently,
Mephistopheles reappears to him in human form. It becomes clear that humans find demons
difficult to look at, so as a result, familiars appear to them in more acceptable forms. However,
having a guise may benefit the spirit more than it comforts the witch in

Rip Van Winkle Allegory
Washington Irving s story of Rip Van Winkle is an allegory of the American Revolutionary War
and the formation of a new nation. Just as Rip Van Winkle struggled to find his freedom and
identity, the new nation also struggled to find their own freedom and identity. In this story, the
character of Rip Van Winklerepresents the colonies, Dame Van Winkle represents England, and the
villagers represent the American citizens. Irving contrasts conditions before and after the
Revolutionary War, and concludes that since obtaining freedom from England, the citizens of
America are more prosperous and engaged in government as they search for a new identity in the
formation of a new nation. Rip Van Winkle, just like the colonies, was viewed by others

He immediately notices the difference in a once dry gully that had changed into a mountain
stream was now foaming down it, leaping from rock to rock, and filling the glen with babbling
murmurs (49). This foretells of a fuller, better life than the old one. Although Rip s house was
abandoned and in ruins and his wife was dead, the village was larger, with more people and
houses. This indicates that the new nation without England s authority was more prosperous,
even though some aspects were ruined in the process of war. Irving writes, The very character of
the people seemed changed. There was a busy, bustling, disputatious tone about it, instead of the
accustomed phlegm and drowsy tranquility (51). Some readers may argue that the new nation
is not as good as the colonies because life is faster paced and people are more involved rather
than a more relaxed society, however life is more lively and full. There is more ambition and
interest in life and government, as opposed to the apathy that existed before the revolution.
While no longer tranquil, there was more engagement from the citizens. Instead of old
newspapers, men were talking about citizen s rights and elections. Instead of idle speeches, Rip

Persuasive Essay On Raising The Flag
Raising the Flag
September 11, 2001 was when the world thought it was over. Just by raising the flag from the
ground, it changed the image of America. Not only did the world suffer in fear, families from all
over America lost loved ones in this tragedy. Every day, there are cops, firefighters, soldiers, etc.,
who put their lives on the line to protect citizens and their freedom from the ones who try to
destroy that. On this day, thousands of citizens watched their fears happen right in front of their
eyes, while the heroes on the ground stood in danger to save the innocent people. This picture
represents heroic symbolism of men and women whose lives will never be forgotten. Even with all
the hate in the world, the United States still keeps its ground by standing as one, keeping the flag
raised to show we can overcome any adversity, a symbolism of freedom, and religion/skin color
does not define us.
The United States has been known for standing its ground since the first war. What used to be the
tallest buildings in America is now known as what used to be the tallest buildings. The top of the
building has now met the ground and in the picture, it shows what strength Americans have to
stand back up and start picking up the debris. These firefighters prove that in this picture. They
are raising the flag from the ground, as if they just got done with a war. Although, it seemed to
have been a war America was not aware of, it left with people dying and demolished buildings.
These three firefighters were the only people in this picture that we can see standing their ground
by raising the flag, but all of America was right next to them knowing they would overcome this
adversity.
What the terrorists did not know was that even with the most heartache event in American history,
America still overcame this disaster and raised the American flag from the ground. As you can see
in the picture, the buildings have crumbled from a strike of hate. There are metal pieces that were
part of the building that are still standing. By the way the firefighters outfits look, you can tell that
the towers have collapsed not long before they started to raise the flag. In the background, there is
dark dust and metal scraps stacked like

Crime Scene Investigation Of The National Forensics Academy
The National Forensics Academy was full of multiple dimensions of crime scene investigation that
I had not even thought about nor learned about in the past. The world of crime scene investigation
is interesting to me because of all these aspects and because they are ever changing, and new and
better methods are being discovered. Throughout the academy I learned about these aspects in
detail and how there are various methods within each aspect. The aspects that I learned were how to
photograph a crime scene, finger printing, foot impressions, crime scene sketches, bloodspatter
analysis, bullet holes, bones, and digging up a grace to recover a body. These aspects work
together to investigate and recreate crime scenes.
A part of crime scene investigation that I had never put much thought into was the photography.
Taking photos of everything at a scene and the methods of how to photograph scenes are
important in working a scene. I had never had the opportunity to work with the type of cameras
that we used at the academy and I was unaware of the work that goes into photographing a
picture. Before taking a photo one must adjust the settings including the F stop, ISO, and shutter
speed of the camera. In order to take a picture of a moving object you must adjust the shutter
speed so it can capture the image clear in its state of movement. Also leaving the shutter speed
open for a long time can capture very clear photos of a still object if the camera is placed on a
tripod. The

November 11, 2016 Island: poetry and history of Chinese immigrants on Angel Island
Chinese immigration to the United States began in large number during the California Gold Rush.
Many people came to the country hoping to find jobs and fortune for themselves and their families
back in China. Among those immigrants many stayed in the country and others went back to China.
The point of entry for these Chinese immigrants to California between 1910 and 1940 was the
Angles Island in San Francisco. The Island was like that of the Ellis Island in New York. These
islands were the immigration detention headquarters for the immigrants waiting on their medical
examinations and immigration papers. It was also the holding ground for deportees awaiting
transportation back to the mother land.
Island: poetry and history of Chinese immigrants on Angel Island, by Him Mark Lai is a collection
of the poems that was restored from the walls and barracks of the Angles Island. The author had
selected the sixty nine poems which were classified into different categories to show the history of
the immigration. The five section are The Voyage, The Detainment, The Weak Shall Conquer, The
Westerners, Deportees, Transients. Each of these sections includes the restored poems found in the
barrack and the oral histories from peoples who spend their time in the Island, Immigration

Class Obervation on Reading Comprehension Skills
Class Observation and Report
I met the instructor before class to discuss overall goals as well as goals for that day s lesson. The
overall goal of the course is to improve reading comprehension skills, increase math problem
solving skills, and develop a strong ability to combine the two and further discussion skills. The
goal of that day s lesson was to work on reading strategies: scanning, identifying main ideas, and
understanding details of different math word problems and equations. The instructor mentioned that
there are only 10 people in the class and almost all of them are between the ages of 11 12. They are
all at pretty much the same reading level, although there is some slight variation. Specifically
though, in her fourth period class, one student had a tremendous difficulty in reading and
understanding word problems and them translating those words into numbers and equations.
In one activity the instructor starts the class by picking up one math assignment that was due and
they check three other math assignments together. All of the students call out the answers in
unison. The unit they had just ended was on integers and they were just beginning their unit on
equations and eventually into inequalities. Then she hands out flash cards with five discussion
questions that pertain to the topic of equations and inequalities, for example What do you think an
equation is? and Why would you ever need to use one? Students get into groups of two to discuss

Persuasive Essay About Dressing Your Children
With the snow on its way, it s time to start thinking about some family fun activities you can do
with your kids in Columbia. There s plenty of activities do when the snow is falling, like building
a snowman, having a fun and friendly snowball fight, making countless snow angels, sledding, and
so much more! However, in areas that snow and reach bitterly coldtemperatures like Columbia it s
important to dress your kids properly. Whether you have an infant, toddler, or school aged child,
you ll want to ensure they have warm enough clothing so that they can enjoy the snow and avoid a
mid sledding meltdown. If you plan on enjoying the snow and participating in winteractivities with
your children follow these simple tips to ensure your child is warm and enjoying the fun!
Add some layers
Spending most of the day outside, you and your child will be active. Dressing your child in layers
is essential for keeping your child comfortable. Plus, throughout the day, temperatures can fluctuate.
However, you can maintain your child s comfort by simply adding or removing a layer based on
the weather. When the temperatures drop and the wind chill rises, consider dressing your child with
the common three layer technique in mind:
Base Layer
A base layer is the layer of clothing that sits closest to the skin and is generally meant to be a
form of insulation. This can be a thick long sleeve shirt and sweatpants or thermal underwear. In
addition, part of the base layer is the socks. You ll want to select a brand of socks that are
breathable and that will keep your kids feet warm throughout the day. Wool is an excellent fiber to
use for base layers both socks and the under clothing and will help keep moisture away.
Middle Layer
The mid layer can be as simple as a hoodie or a sweatshirt. The middle layer is meant to provide
some extra insulation when outside, but also provides enough comfort to be worn indoors while
taking a break to eat lunch or sip delicious hot chocolate.
Outside Layer
When being active outside, the outer layer is very important for your kids. The outside layer
should consist of good quality snow pants and boots, as well as a warm winter jacket. The type of
outside layers needed can depend on what

I Am A My Project On Architecture
For my final photojournalism project I decided to take pictures of really tall buildings in
London such as the Shard. For a while I wasn t sure what I was going to do my project on and I
was thinking about doing it on the process of opening and closing a local shop like Paul s. I wasn
t really that motivated by that topic so I soon forgot about it. The idea to do my project on
architecture came from my visit to the LondonEye. When I was there I realized how vast and large
London was and how many buildings occupied it. I was amazed how tall and massive some of
the buildings were and a couple of them in particular stood out to me. After my visit there I
decided I would pick one famous building in London to photographand then add other pictures to
my project that were less known, but equally as interesting looking buildings. I wanted to try
and photograph the buildings from the ground up to really try and capture how big they actually
were. I also didn t want to shoot the buildings directly head on. I wanted my pictures to be of
interesting angles of the buildings. I decided that in order to capture the look I wanted for these
photographs I had to use a different lens. I used a zoom lens that helped me focus in on the top
of the buildings and make the image appear a lot clearer. Additionally, I placed the camera really
low to the ground and angled the camera directly up and down to get the style that I wanted. When
I looked at these pictures on my camera I was amazed how

Implementing A Sustainable Society Out Of Our Own Country
For my sustainable society I redesigned the central United States and set up new rules,
regulations and a code of responsibility for U.S citizens to start abiding by in order to become
sustainable by reducing carbon emissions and becoming more of a community based society. I
choose to do the U.S because I thought I was an interesting task to think about what it would take
to make a sustainable society out of our own country. The U.S is the second top producer of CO2
emissions in the world and it directly correlates without dependency on fossil fuels for producing
energy. (EPA, 2008). This is why my first thought about creating a sustainable society out of the
U.S then we would have to greatly reduce, and if not that, totally abolish natural gasproduction in
the U.S. Obviously in a real life setting this would seem that it would tear the country apart however
I think the solution would be to start encouraging and rewarding those individuals and organizations
that a using renewable energyand give them things such as take breaks and government funding.
At the same time we would need to stop subsidizing gas slowly over time in order to make it
more appealing to the average American to switch from natural gas. Renewable energy companies
would be able to create enough jobs to replace those in the natural gas industry. According to the
International Renewable Energy Association renewable energy has already created over 7.7
million jobs worldwide (IRENA, 2016). The U.S gas and oil

Labor Market in Singapore
Introduction
Since Singapore gained its independence in 1965, its economy had progressed due to
globalization, rapid technological advances and the rise of China and India. With these different
stages of development, Singapore s labor market had adapted itself by transforming from a labor
abundant and capital limited city into a labor deficient and capital rich country (Chia 2005).
Singapore is now a popular export manufacturing base, regional headquarter for foreign
multinational company and a financial centre (Chia 2005). The industrial structure has also
progressed from a labor intensive export manufacturing to a capital and technology intensive
manufacturing, which hence provided capabilities to compete globally not only for its ... Show more

With the demand for more educated workers, it in turn encouraged the returns to higher levels of
education, resulting an increase in the return to university education in 2004 as compared to 2001
(Yeo et al. 2007). Therefore the labor structure in Singapore had evolved into one having a more
skilled and multi lingual workforce as compared to the past.
Aging Population
Singapore has one of the fastest aging populations due to the lack of babies, this consequently
led to the slow down in the growth of Singapore s labor force. Recent research had also found
that Singaporean life expectancy had increase from 61 years old in 1957 to today average life
expectancy of 80 years old. In order to ensure that these senior citizens have enough savings for
their old age, the government in Singapore had encouraged them to stay employed and work
longer (Sprinter 2007). To achieve this, the government planed to legislate re employment for
older workers to work beyond 62 to 67 (Sprinter 2007). With the support from WDA in helping
companies to redesign jobs and give training for older workers, actions by Tripartite Committee in
recommending Employability of Older Workers and nevertheless the upcoming legislation and
incentives provided by the government, we will be expecting to see more older workers in the
workforce as compare to the past. The result of these efforts had been publicized by NTUC (2007),

Examples Of Ptsd In The Iliad
PTSD and a Reevaluation of Homer s Achilles
In Homer s Iliad, Achilles hears about the death of his dearest friend and says Nothing matters to
me now / But killing and blood and men in agony (19.226). In the fit of reckless violence which
follows, he slaughters so many young men that he clogs the River Scamander with their gore, slays
helpless suppliants, and attempts to mutilate his chief enemy s body after killing him. While it is
impossible to deny Achilles compulsive and violent behavior in much of The Iliad, modern research
on the effects of battle trauma on the human psyche invites us to reevaluate his behavior. In light of
modern research conducted on war veterans suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder),

Achilles, once a figure of godlike power and bravery, now appears a very mortal figure suffering
from the brutality of war. His fall from heroism to barbarism is no less tragic and no less horrid,
but is much more understandable when viewed as a psychological phenomenon only recently
identified by modern psychology. This understanding of Achilles also serves to bridge the
cultural and temporal gaps between Homeric society and our own. The Iliad provides compelling
evidence that PTSD is a cross cultural and cross temporal disorder which warriors have
experienced since time immemorial. From Troy to Vietnam and beyond, soldiers have suffered
trauma from combat which has in turn caused them to inflict violence on others, as well as on
themselves. Achilles almost cuts his own throat in the opening lines of Book 18, and refuses to eat,
drink or bathe for most of the rest of The Iliad. Thus, he effectively makes himself the living dead
(in commiseration with Patroclus). Similarly, the number of Vietnam vets who have committed
suicide exceeds the number who died during and after the war from wounds, and an estimated 1.5

This allows the service provider to manage the business processes which may include resources that
are necessary to providing services. For example, the technology, equipments and personnel are
transferred to the service provider. The amount transferred to the service provider often depends on
the magnitude or complexity of the services to be carried out. Additionally, the magnitude and
complexity of the service also determines the how long the relation between the organization and
the service provider.
Chamberland (2003), also points out that outsourcing s transfer of ownership to the service
provider differentiates it from other business relationships. In other business agreements, if an
organization still retains its processes, then the organization is purchasing time which is a services
relationship. However, if the contracted service provider owns and controls the processes, then the
organization is outsourcing. For example, a manufacturing company that hires an outside IT
company to help repair and maintain its computer system is not outsourcing. On the other hand, a
manufacturing company that transfers some of its business processes to an outside service provider
that will provide customer service and Human resource management services back to the company
for some years is outsourcing.

The Marketing Strategy Analysis of Starbucks Corporation
Introduction
Under today s ever changing market, strategic marketing planning has become more and more
significant whether of the functional or the fundamental. Especially, although financial crisis leaded
economy growth slowdown, it did not cause a serious influence for chain coffee shop. As Howard
Schultz said, CEO of Starbucks, I don t think we had a business plan for the severity of what has
taken place. History demonstrated to us that a downturn in the economy would not affect us, and
in fact, we would be recession proof. (Katie Couric, 2008) Based on Financial Times, Starbucks

(Jobber and Fahy, 2009) Therefore, the strategic marketing becomes more and more significant
since it can help organizations to find its own position of the competitive market; thus, they just can
justify their strategy against whether the existing or the potential competitors. Therefore,
organizations should classify the marketing environment including competitive environment (its
immediate competitors and customers) and the macro environment (the wider social, political and
economic setting they operate.) In order to develop the right strategy whether for short term or long
term, organizations not only need to know the concept of strategic marketing but also how to use it
within the competitive marketing.
In addition, fundamental to strategic thinking is the concept of strategic fit. It indicates how
organizations match the internal resources and capabilities with the opportunities in the external
environment. The strategic model used to evaluate the appropriateness of the vision or decision
making of the organizations (Hooley G et al 2008). A competitive advantage can be developed
successfully by a suitable and unique combination of capabilities and resources. Nevertheless,
organizations should pay more attention to classify the differentiation between resources and
capabilities. Capabilities are focused on the learning effect of the organizations

F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Barn
Sadly, Ruth all but knows that she stays because Paul is white. She is still so ashamed of the
event that she wants to cleanse her blackness and dirtiness with Paul s whiteness and cleanliness.
The binary oppositions that have been passed on from white American culture to black American
culture have claimed another victim and Ruth is left to deal with her emotional scarring alone.
Paul s touch would never release her...whenever he touched her, she became blacker and dirtier
than ever...[but] her blackness was not Paul s fault. Neither was her guilt. She was punishing
herself for something, a crime she could not remember. You dirty...you black and dirty...
(Baldwin). She wants very much to be content with being a black woman in America, who has no
reason to feel shame for being sexual, but the event in the barn weighs heavily on her at all times.
She is so desperate to be cleansed by way of Paul s whiteness that she will not leave a toxic,
unfulfilling, nearly one sided relationship. Instead, she goes to work every day and seethes,
thinking about what conquest he might acquire in her absence.
Ruth s issues with her race and sexuality also come to the fore in the office, as she shares her

Analysis Of Rape Fantasies By Margaret Atwood
Rape Fantasies by Margaret Atwood is a comedic approach to a very serious, concerning topic. I
believe what all of the fantasies discussed have in common is that the perpetrator seems to be
mindless, sensitive, and easily manipulated to produce the outcome the fantasizer is desiring.
Estelle also seems to be sympathetic towards her rapists. I also noticed she seems to very
degrading to herself and personal appearance of both her and the rapists. For example, Atwood
describes her rapist: not only is he ugly, you know, with a sort of puffy nothing face, like those
fellows you have to talk to in the bank when your accountКјs overdrawn of course I donКјt mean
theyКјre all like that but heКјs absolutely covered in pimples (Atwood). In some of

St Paul Book Reports
The saint that I have chosen for my report is Saint Paul. Paul was original called Saul and was a
Roman citizen and a Pharisee. He conducted many persecutions of the early Christians and was
present when St. Stephen was martyred. St. Paul lived a very unholy life until something would
change his life and rethink everything he thought he knew about Christian religion.
One day when Saul was about to go and arrest some Christians for preaching the good news of
God, he saw a great big light in the sky. When he looked up he heard the voice of Jesus. At that
moment he realized that Jesus was truly the son of God. He was quickly baptized and took the
name Paul. He started to travel all across the world preaching and praying in places where people ...

He soon visited Jerusalem to see St. Peter the first pope and to honor him. During his many travels
he preached constantly and often drew negative attention to himself. Jews hated his preaching the
most because they saw him convert people to Christianity from Judaism. Paul soon returned Tarsus
where he was born. In Tarsus he preached until he was called by Barnabus to come to Antioch.
Paul and Barnabus went on mission to Cypress and throughout Asia Minor. They established
many churches in their journey. Paul was very brave and wrote letters to answer questions and to
resolve disputes. Some of his letters that had been contained have become a part of the Bible
which is called the Epistles of Paul. Paul s writings and letters are very important in the Catholic
Church. They provide good advice on how a catholic should live.
Paul returned to Spain for a religious mission. There he was imprisoned in Caesarea by the Jews
for two years. He traveled again, was shipwrecked in Malta, and imprisoned for another two
years for preaching in Rome. No matter how many times Paul was arrested he would continue to
preach the good news of Jesus and about the kingdom of God. In the year 67AD Paul was arrested
in Rome for a second time and then beheaded under the crazy emperor

Monsters Social Commentary
Monsters (2010) is a modern day fictional monster film which, acts as a social commentary,
touching upon political dilemmas, science fiction, romance and public anxieties. The narrative
of the film based in Mexico is a world in which the monsters are huge octopus like aliens. For the
past 6 years they have lived in a large area of Mexico that has now been confined as an infected
zone however, a huge wall has been built on the Mexico USA border to keep the aliens out. The film
follows a photographer; one of the main characters, Andrew, and his boss daughter (Sam) the other
main character as he warily attempts to escort her safely back to her father in the USA after a
rogue alien attack left her injured, and the romance between the two throughout their journey. This
film uses these aliens with dramatic, symbolic effect to also act as a metaphorical narrative for
current societal issues; offering a pragmatic analysis of these underlying... Show more content on

The image of the warzone is elaborated throughout the film, with the settings including tanks,
weapons and general destruction. Another scene in the film when Andrew and Sam got in the
cab, seeing the destructed buildings and Sam asked the taxi driver, Do you feel safe living
here? and the taxi driver replied, Where would we go? My work, my family is all here. This
representation is an iconic resemblance imitating areas of real present civilian conflict zones such
as those in Afghanistan and Iraq, portraying the destruction of the lives of the people who live
there and the difficulties faced by those who have loved ones entangled in conflict, either as a
military or civilian presence. Although we are aware that this destruction was in fact caused by
conflict between military and the aliens, the way the scene has been composed and edited shows
clear visual similarities to images depicted in the media of destruction in contemporary

Globalization Is The Development Of Increasingly
According to Merriam Webster (2015) Globalization is the development of increasingly
integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and tapping of
cheaper foreign labor markets. In general, Globalization has affected many nations in various
ways; socially, politically, economically, and environmentally. Over a period of time
globalization can now turn the world into an integrated economy instead of the isolated
economy. The more trading that takes place, the more wealth is created, and economic growth
will create more jobs, make companies more competitive, and lower consumer cost.

The traditional
classification of these services recognizes four basic forms of exchange. Service exportation,
commercial presence, transnational movement of providers and transnational movement of
consumers all of which is a huge impact on international trade . In general, healthcare has
progressed over time but it is still a work in progress for the United States and other nations. In
today s world, education provides a better chance of employment, which in turn leads to a better
and happier lifestyle. One of the common trends to higher education is the internationalization of
education to help students work and be successful in today s global economy. For example,
most colleges require students to take an international course to be better connected with this
diverse world. Globalization is beneficial for firms and people because it has given countries
the opportunities to work more closely together and has led to the advancement of science and
technology. With advanced technology most businesses can reach new economic markets. For
example, if a small business normally sells consumer goods and service in a local market they
can now reach regional, nationally, and international markets due to the advancement of science
and technology. Retail websites are the most common ground to selling goods and services in
several different economic markets. For example, no one is limited to purchasing goods or
services from just one

Romanticism In It Happened One Night
As the rise of cinema in the usa, came two of a great movies of their own time which captures the
public interest but in different ways. It happened one night (1934), Citizens kane (1941), are both
interesting and different in terms of social issues and also as filming and using technology at the
time of the release.
It happened one night by Frank Capra, came out in depression era (1934) with its humor,
sexiness and wisdom characteristics. The movie tells a romantic story where a spoiled girl runs
away from her rich dad and falls in love with news reporter. American comedies of 1930s
presented marriage and courtship as a vaudeville act, and love is indeed equaled with role
playing throughout It Happened One Night . Donut dunking scene mid way through the movie
shows a perfect example of romanticism and shows the passion the two characters started to have
toward one another. They fell in love but did not sleep together until marriage and meanwhile
until they get to New york they used the famous blanket wall to keep the intensions away from
someone just looking for sex and rather to someone sweet and caring which made the audience
fall more in love with the story. The movie also shows the story taking place in depression era by
showing a mother passing out from hunger and her son telling the story of their hardship that
makes viewer s grab at their heartstrings.
In terms of film techniques, Frank Capra s innovative filming and editing techniques made the
movie drastically

Personal Stereotypes In Russia
To my dear Anastasia, I had heard rumors that you have left Russia and escaped the horrible
demise in which the result of our family faced. It was not until 1930 that I found you hiding
away in Germany, and now I can finally tell you my story so that you can learn from my
mistakes. Throughout the years that we were both together, mother and daughter, I had never
disclosed the turmoil occurring with our family and Russia. Now, as I continue to watch over
the world with a new found wisdom, I send this message to you, a description of my personal
experiences and mistakes made when I was living, and I hope you can learn from my mistakes.

My working citizens of Russia had come to visit me! However, it was not as positive at it had
seemed. They had not come to greet me, but had instead come to petition for better working
conditions, freedom, and a national legislature. And that is when the shooting had begun. I was
terrified beyond belief, too scared to look out the window to figure out what was happening, but
my curiosity had overridden my fear. I gazed out of the window, dazed, and to my horror I had
seen my palace generals and police firing into the crowd of protestors! My beloved citizens were
dropping down like flies, and I was too paralyzed to move from my position and call off the
guards, that was one of the largest regrets of my life. That day, known as Bloody Sunday , has
remained imprinted in my soul, and the repercussions of it, can never be forgotten, it had become a

Response To Public Art
Page 1 description response to public art Art is undefined. There are no rules and no boundaries
to art. Art is whatever you want it to be. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It seems like
today, art is everywhere. Someone is trying to express how they feel or trying to persuade people
to their cause or efforts. Art to us is the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci, or Starry Night by Van Gogh;
but it also can be spray paint on the side of a train, or a drawing on the bathroom stall. However
you feel, you can express yourself through art. It is a way to relay your feelings to the general
public. It seems that the best art, is the art that leaves you guessing the meaning. Wondering what

The Critique Of Culture In The Sand Child By Tahar Ben...
Culture is an amalgamation of shared beliefs, values, and norms within a society. Thus, culture has
the ability to influence the way in which one learns, lives, and behaves. When the cultural values
and practices are negative, the fate of a person growing up in this situation can be critically
affected. In The Sand Child, Tahar Ben Jelloun exhibits how the cultural values of the Moroccan
society such as the inheritance law and the social practices such as the blatant rejection and
demeaning treatment of women in society have affected Ahmed, the protagonist, and provide an
insight into Jelloun s critique of those practices. The codification of misogynistic rules that solely
pertain to leveling up the man s position in a society have had a... Show more content on

They were right. In this way they rid themselves of misfortune. It was an act of wisdom, a brief
pain, an implacable logic (Jelloun 99). Ahmed s father comes to him in a dream and tells him
that he did not have the courage to proceed with this practice himself, but admires the fathers that
were able to follow through with it. He specifically mentions how Ahmed was saved from this
torturous procedure, as his father chose him to take on the male lead, while on the other hand
his sisters were ignored and were figuratively dead to the father. Although, this cultural practice
did not directly affect Ahmed, nor did it affect his sisters, it affected other female babies in this
society, while also subconsciously affecting Ahmed. This sense of betrayal and guilt has affected
Ahmed s life as it is something that will always follow him because he feels as though he
betrayed his father by not following through with his wishes and becoming the man he had
always wished for. The author may have put this section in because he wanted to demonstrate the
guilt that is subconsciously put onto women. All aspects of a woman s life are criticized merely
for having female body parts and being seen as the weaker gender. These cultural practices are
seen as a normal, wise act done in order to keep the honor in the family. Thus,

  • 2. Comparing Machiavelli s The Prince And Letter To Francesco... Niccolo Machiavelli, a Renaissance philosopher and historian, is regarded as one of the founders of classical political philosophy and political science. To this day, scholars continue to debate whether the Florencian writer is more sympathetic to the few or the many. With some of his texts containing views contradicting the others, it is difficult to contend whether or not the philosopher is a true democrat. Despite many of Machiavelli s seemingly democratic views and ideas, his personal ideology appears to be more of a Republican nature. His republicanismis most informed by his remarks on the people, nobles, and ideal state structure. Through analysis of his writings in The Prince and The Discourses , and his Letter to Francesco Vettori,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If there is a minority, then the majority is much too large and may even impede on it. Democrats govern by the masses according to majority rule, leading to critics labeling the structure as a tyranny of the majority because of the lack of legal preservation of rights. For republicans, however, justice is administered accordingly with set rules and guidelines, so as not to infringe upon the minority. Machiavelli recognized the ongoing tensions between the few and many, each trying to control the other, but never regarded it as an issue. In Discourses he writes, In every republic there are two different inclinations: that of the people and that of the upper class, and that all the laws which are made in favor of liberty are born of the conflict between the two. (I IV). Here, Machiavelli actually sees this conflict as a source of political stability, necessary for the growth of every Republic. Without tension, that would mean there is no coexistence between regimes and only a single type left to dominate the platform. The existence of a dominant upper class was necessary to keep a Republic in check; otherwise a, democracy could emerge and dominate the political sphere. Machiavelli s sympathy to the few emerges from his view of human nature. The reason why the philosopher has many critics is because his writings tend to sound quite evil, dark, and gruesome in nature. To others, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tones At Past Two Tone There are two main tones in this story, a happy one and a gloomy one. These both tones come together in the poem to create the theme of desires and significance in life. The poem first begins with a happy tone. The old man in the story is happy and welcomes/accepts his chances of dying. This is shown by him saying things like he is ready for heaven and is finally done with picking apples. In line eight he says, I am dosing off, he is indicating that he has finished everything planned and is ready for his judgment. I believe that this tone sets up the theme of desires and the significance in life, but does not necessarily complete it. As we keep reading through the poem, it starts to introduce a sad mood. He starts accepting his fate when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Societal Values Of The Puritans The Puritans have been portrayed to be a society which lives based on values, and very strict interpretations of those values. Societal values revolve around the Puritan religion, with the main idea being that God had made a covenant with their people to live according to the Scripture and to set an example for other societies to follow. With God s covenant in mind, the Puritans lived a very straightforward, yet tense life. Through Puritanliterature, it is clear the lives of the Puritans were based around the covenant between God and the society, with any mistakes leading to punishment and fear within the people causing the inevitable demise of Puritan society. The Puritans lived a life in which there was a very fine line between what was agreeing with God s covenant, and what was going against the agreement. Much of the actions taken by the Puritans was not to help themselves, but rather to please God. In their voyage to Cape Cod, the Puritans were faced with many challenges, yet they never backed down, because it was God s will they succeed, So they committed themselves to the will of God and resolved to proceed, (Bradford , Of Plymouth Plantation (26)). Because the Puritan s believed God s strong assertion for their society to succeed and to follow through on the covenant, they kept sailing until the ship landed at Cape Cod. Moreover, the passengers and sailors on the ship were faced with fear that if they failed to reach the New World, it would be a failure on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Blues, a type of jazz, also follows this similar style. Langston Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, is no exception. The sound qualities that make up Hughes work are intricate, yet quite apparent. Hughes use of consonance, assonance, onomatopoeia, and rhyme in The Weary Bluesgives the poem a deep feeling of sorrow while, at the same time, allows the reader to feel as if he or she is actually listening to the blues sung by the poem s character. Another place that consonance is apparent is in line 5, ?pale, dull pallor of an old gas light. The sticky l sounds are difficult to produce off of the tongue quickly; therefore, these words slow the poem down. This is typical of the blues. The slow sounds of blues music are incorporated in the words of this poem. It seems as if the words with the l sounds get extra emphasis, as well, because they are so difficult to pronounce. Added strength through word sounds helps boost the poem s glumness. Line 10 is another excellent example of consonance in The Weary Blues. The m and p sounds of He made that poor piano moan with melody give the poem a juxtaposition of warm sounds from the m to aggressive tones with the sharp p. This is a nice element as it is characteristic of blues music, as well. Usually there are some elements of comfort and disdain within the blues. The contrast of the m and p sounds highlights this very well. There is a great amount of assonance in The Weary Blues. The first example of assonance comes right away in the poem. Line 1 opens with the long o sound in Droning a drowsy syncopated tune and continues with Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon in line 2. This long o sound is representative of the forlorn blues aforementioned. The long o is repeated throughout the poem, for example in line 10 with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Popular depictions of these companions include the black cat and the crow or raven. This image of a witch and her usually animal sidekick has been made popular through contemporary media, especially films. However, the general majority being acquainted with the visual does not suggest a complete understanding of familiars. The popular misconception suggests that familiars are either pets or perform menial favors for witches, such as eavesdropping. Mother Cunny, an accused witch in a pamphlet in More Executions at Chelmsford, asks a ferret, In the name of God, what art thou? and the ferret answered, I am Satan (188). This concept is not only readily available in the pamphlets, but in fictional texts as well. The familiar in the play, The Witch of Edmonton, is a common dog, aptly named Dog, who, when asked what he is, answers: the Devil (2.1.123). However, not all familiar spirits come in the form of an animal, such as Ariel in Shakespeare s The Tempest, where Ariel s form is never specified; while Ariel is generally referred with male pronouns, the play also does not specify his gender either. Moreover, it is suggested that Ariel appears to be human, but is not actually human; in 5.1, he admits he would feel pity ... were I human to which Prospero explains that Ariel is art but air, further establishing Ariel s spirit like quality. Another non animal familiar is Mephistopheles from Christopher Marlowe s play Doctor Faustus. In the play, Mephistopheles appears to Faustus in his demonic form, leading Faustus to demand, I charge thee to return and change they shape, / Thou art too ugly to attend on me, / Go, and return an old Franciscan friar (1.3.266 8). Not only did the world suffer in fear, families from all over America lost loved ones in this tragedy. Every day, there are cops, firefighters, soldiers, etc., who put their lives on the line to protect citizens and their freedom from the ones who try to destroy that. On this day, thousands of citizens watched their fears happen right in front of their eyes, while the heroes on the ground stood in danger to save the innocent people. The United States has been known for standing its ground since the first war. What used to be the tallest buildings in America is now known as what used to be the tallest buildings. The top of the building has now met the ground and in the picture, it shows what strength Americans have to stand back up and start picking up the debris. The aspects that I learned were how to photograph a crime scene, finger printing, foot impressions, crime scene sketches, bloodspatter analysis, bullet holes, bones, and digging up a grace to recover a body. These aspects work together to investigate and recreate crime scenes. A part of crime scene investigation that I had never put much thought into was the photography. The overall goal of the course is to improve reading comprehension skills, increase math problem solving skills, and develop a strong ability to combine the two and further discussion skills. The goal of that day s lesson was to work on reading strategies: scanning, identifying main ideas, and understanding details of different math word problems and equations. The instructor mentioned that there are only 10 people in the class and almost all of them are between the ages of 11 12. They are all at pretty much the same reading level, although there is some slight variation. Specifically though, in her fourth period class, one student had a tremendous difficulty in reading and understanding word problems and them translating those words into numbers and equations. In one activity the instructor starts the class by picking up one math assignment that was due and they check three other math assignments together. All of the students call out the answers in unison. The unit they had just ended was on integers and they were just beginning their unit on equations and eventually into inequalities. There s plenty of activities do when the snow is falling, like building a snowman, having a fun and friendly snowball fight, making countless snow angels, sledding, and so much more! However, in areas that snow and reach bitterly coldtemperatures like Columbia it s important to dress your kids properly. Whether you have an infant, toddler, or school aged child, you ll want to ensure they have warm enough clothing so that they can enjoy the snow and avoid a mid sledding meltdown. If you plan on enjoying the snow and participating in winteractivities with your children follow these simple tips to ensure your child is warm and enjoying the fun! Add some layers Spending most of the day outside, you and your child will be active. Dressing your child in layers is essential for keeping your child comfortable. Plus, throughout the day, temperatures can fluctuate. However, you can maintain your child s comfort by simply adding or removing a layer based on the weather. When the temperatures drop and the wind chill rises, consider dressing your child with the common three layer technique in mind: Base Layer A base layer is the layer of clothing that sits closest to the skin and is generally meant to be a form of insulation. This can be a thick long sleeve shirt and sweatpants or thermal underwear. In addition, part of the base layer is the socks. You ll want to select a brand of socks that are breathable and that will keep your kids feet warm throughout the day. Wool is an excellent fiber to use for base layers both socks and the under clothing and will help keep moisture away. Middle Layer The mid layer can be as simple as a hoodie or a sweatshirt. The middle layer is meant to provide some extra insulation when outside, but also provides enough comfort to be worn indoors while taking a break to eat lunch or sip delicious hot chocolate. Outside Layer When being active outside, the outer layer is very important for your kids. The outside layer should consist of good quality snow pants and boots, as well as a warm winter jacket. I choose to do the U.S because I thought I was an interesting task to think about what it would take to make a sustainable society out of our own country. The U.S is the second top producer of CO2 emissions in the world and it directly correlates without dependency on fossil fuels for producing energy. (EPA, 2008). This is why my first thought about creating a sustainable society out of the U.S then we would have to greatly reduce, and if not that, totally abolish natural gasproduction in the U.S. Obviously in a real life setting this would seem that it would tear the country apart however I think the solution would be to start encouraging and rewarding those individuals and organizations that a using renewable energyand give them things such as take breaks and government funding. At the same time we would need to stop subsidizing gas slowly over time in order to make it more appealing to the average American to switch from natural gas. Renewable energy companies would be able to create enough jobs to replace those in the natural gas industry. Achilles, once a figure of godlike power and bravery, now appears a very mortal figure suffering from the brutality of war. His fall from heroism to barbarism is no less tragic and no less horrid, but is much more understandable when viewed as a psychological phenomenon only recently identified by modern psychology. This understanding of Achilles also serves to bridge the cultural and temporal gaps between Homeric society and our own. The Iliad provides compelling evidence that PTSD is a cross cultural and cross temporal disorder which warriors have experienced since time immemorial. From Troy to Vietnam and beyond, soldiers have suffered trauma from combat which has in turn caused them to inflict violence on others, as well as on themselves. Achilles almost cuts his own throat in the opening lines of Book 18, and refuses to eat, drink or bathe for most of the rest of The Iliad. Now, as I continue to watch over the world with a new found wisdom, I send this message to you, a description of my personal experiences and mistakes made when I was living, and I hope you can learn from my mistakes. Take the lessons and learn from my life, something in which I failed to do during my stay on Earth. I wish... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My working citizens of Russia had come to visit me! However, it was not as positive at it had seemed. They had not come to greet me, but had instead come to petition for better working conditions, freedom, and a national legislature. And that is when the shooting had begun. I was terrified beyond belief, too scared to look out the window to figure out what was happening, but my curiosity had overridden my fear. I gazed out of the window, dazed, and to my horror I had seen my palace generals and police firing into the crowd of protestors! My beloved citizens were dropping down like flies, and I was too paralyzed to move from my position and call off the guards, that was one of the largest regrets of my life. That day, known as Bloody Sunday , has remained imprinted in my soul, and the repercussions of it, can never be forgotten, it had become a scar on the heart of Russia ... • 46. Response To Public Art Page 1 description response to public art Art is undefined. There are no rules and no boundaries to art. Art is whatever you want it to be. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It seems like today, art is everywhere. Someone is trying to express how they feel or trying to persuade people to their cause or efforts. Art to us is the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci, or Starry Night by Van Gogh; but it also can be spray paint on the side of a train, or a drawing on the bathroom stall. That is why I related it to the fisherman in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this way they rid themselves of misfortune. It was an act of wisdom, a brief pain, an implacable logic (Jelloun 99). Ahmed s father comes to him in a dream and tells him that he did not have the courage to proceed with this practice himself, but admires the fathers that were able to follow through with it. He specifically mentions how Ahmed was saved from this torturous procedure, as his father chose him to take on the male lead, while on the other hand his sisters were ignored and were figuratively dead to the father. Although, this cultural practice did not directly affect Ahmed, nor did it affect his sisters, it affected other female babies in this society, while also subconsciously affecting Ahmed. This sense of betrayal and guilt has affected Ahmed s life as it is something that will always follow him because he feels as though he betrayed his father by not following through with his wishes and becoming the man he had always wished for. The author may have put this section in because he wanted to demonstrate the guilt that is subconsciously put onto women. All aspects of a woman s life are criticized merely for having female body parts and being seen as the weaker gender. These cultural practices are seen as a normal, wise act done in order to keep the honor in the family. Thus, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
