Meditations Of Marcus Aurelius Summary
The title of the book I read for the analysis is The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius written by
Marcus Aurelius. The book was originally written in Greek therefore it has been translated into
English and several other languages. The version that I read was published by Penguin in 2006 and
translated by Micahel Hmmond. The Meditations is a very unique book because it was never
meant to be published.
The author of the book, Marcus Aurelius, was a Roman emperor from 161 180 AD. He was born
in present day Cordoba, Spain to noble Roman parents. His father was a Roman politician and his
mother a Roman heiress. In Rome, the succession rules to become emperor are not based on
consanguinity; instead, the Emperor or Caesar chooses who he wants his successor to be. The
senate then approves or rejects the Emperor s candidate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

however the empire was also troubled by constant warfare on the frontiers of the Empire. He

barbarian hordes. The book, which was originally written as personal writings, or a journal, and
was titled To Myself. The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius were not written in chronological order

Mountain Gorilla Research Paper
Africa holds some of the most beautiful and fascinating animals and landscapes, but a lot of that is
threatened due to human encroachment, poaching, disease, and etc. A particular animal is on the
list of critically endangered animals due to these circumstances and that animal is the mountain
gorilla. The mountain gorilla resides in the beautiful mountain regions of Uganda and Rwanda and
the population of these gorillas is around 700 and is increasing at very slow rate. The most major
factor behind their endangerment is humanencroachment because what human encroachment is the

Ever since her birth in 1932 Dian Fossey has been facturated with all types of wildlife and when
Dr. Louis Leakey gave her the opportunity to travel to Africaand lead a long term field research,
she immediately accepted. During her time in Africa she would learn how to track and identify
different gorilla groups and identify the gorillas in each group. It would take some time but,
sooner or later she was gaining the gorillas trust by imitating the body language, eating habitats
and the vocalizations of the gorillas that she had studied. Throughout her stay she would deal
with multiple poachers, that would kill the gorillas she was studying even her favorite gorilla,
Digit. Her way of dealing with the poachers was that she would use what she calls active
conservation, in which she would fight the poachers face to face. She used active conservation
because she was certain that the long term efforts would eventually become useless because all
the gorillas would be dead and there would be nothing to save. What she did that was considered
active conservation were the efforts that include, wearing mask that scared the poachers, burning
the poachers traps, and on occasion she would force confrontation with the poachers and to stop
the threat of human encroachment she would spray paint cattle to discourage the herders. With
all the good she was doing with these tactics, she soon became the target of the people she was
affecting and would later become the victim of a mysterious death. Her murder was the birth of
multiple conspiracy theories such as angry poachers killed her, political leaders hired poachers to
kill her, and even one of her colleagues became a victim of one these theories. As of today there is
still no definite answer to who killed her, but the work she started is still going on at the

Hospital Sketches Louisa May Alcott Summary
In the nonfictitious narrative Hospital Sketches, written by Louisa May Alcott in 1863, she
develops a strong argument concerning human compassion in a time of war. She was able to do
this with strong uses of dialogue, pathos, and figurative language. The dialogue present in the
narrative provides feelings of sorrow for the patients like John. When John asks whether or not
the doctors think the battle is going to be his last, Alcott responds with I m afraid they do,
providing a mood of hopelessness for John s future, and pity for him (Alcott para. 7 8). Alcott
also has feelings of survivor guilt, in which she feels bad about living when people like John are
dying for their country. She feels empathy, and wants to be able to help John bear it so he can
live (Alcott para. 5). She has compassion for him, and she will be sorrowful to see him go. Pathos,
the appeal to emotions, is shown with the melancholy actions shown by the characters. After Alcott
is told about the hopelessness of the scenario, she could have sat down on the spot and cried
heartily, telling us directly of the deep depression that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. P, one of the doctors in charge of taking care of the wounded soldiers, diagnosed that the
injury pierced the left lung and broke a rib, resulting in every breath taken feeling like a stab,
and that John must lie on his wounded back or suffocate (Alcott para. 1). The imagery painted,
as well as the simile, makes us see that the only path is death and there is no way to block it.
Furthermore, as John continues to lie there, a gray veil, a metaphor for death, was falling over his
face that no human hand could move, exemplifying the mood of uselessness that was set (Alcott
para. 10). It is through these tactics, in which we can see clearly, the compassion that people had
for John in his last hours, and the compassion that people have for one another in a time of

3.1Austria
Austria is member of the European Union since 1995 and entered the Euro Zone in 1999. The
Republic of Austria s economic strategy concerning fiscal and economy policy is to obtain
sustainable economic growth and a high level of employment. That is why they are aiming for a

Focussing on the development from 2011 on, the first half of 2011 is marked of economic recovery,
supported by market regulations like Basel III and the OeNB supplying large amounts of long term
liquidity, leading to a decreasing unemployment rate. In the second half of the year geopolitical
tensions like an earthquake in Japan, growth in debt in several Euro countries, tensions in the bond
and interbank market led to uncertainty in the global financial markets which negatively influenced
the Austrian labour market pushing the unemployment rate on a level of 4.3%.
2012 is considered to be a year of economic slowdown. Decreasing exports, less domestic
investments and consumption led to less demand for la bour and increased the unemployment rate
from 4.0% to 5.0%.
In 2013 a slight increase of the Austrian economy can be spotted inter alia in increasing domestic
consumption. On the other hand more foreign workers are entering the Austrian labour market due
to worse situations in their home countries, making the unemployment rate rise to 5.6%.
The upcoming years 2014 and 2015 are marked by slow economic growth and an ongoing increase
of the Austrian labour force leading the unem ployment rate to settle down around 5.6%. Figure 2

The Ordeal Of Elizabeth Marsh
A biography is defined as a written account of another person s life. The key word in the
definition being another person s life. Biographies are full of great information that can often
times make history fun and exciting. Historical phenomenon is often portrayed through
biographies allowing us to see how society has developed over time and how the past and
present may be similar. Although biographies are full of information often times it is impossible
to prove them to be true because they aren t written by the person themselves. Linda Colley s
The ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh is a great example of an exciting biography that allows us to learn
about British Imperial Rule through someone else s eyes. In Linda Colley s The ordeal of
Elizabeth Marsh it becomes clear very quickly just how much British Imperial Rule effected
Elizabeth s life. British Imperial Rule was so strict that Elizabeth was forced to marry a man
that would offer her the most social advancement not only for herself but for her father as well.
She originally was supposed to marry Henry John Phillips because his family was very high up
on the social latter, however it didn t end up working out. Instead Elizabeth marries pretends and
later marries James Crisp, not necessarily because of love but again because of the social
standings that come with it. James Crisps social and financial background was much greater than
Elizabeth s lowering his overall wealthy and social standing. The seven year war also had

A Research Study On Cystic Fibrosis
Brief History
Cystic Fibrosis was first recognized in 1938, as an individual disease or distinct entity, which
basically means that the symptoms were not related to any other illness (Davis, 2006), but there
was a common passage in the Almanac of Children s Songs and Games from Switzerland , the
passage read, the child will soon die who s brow tastes salty when kissed , which hinted at the
saltiness of the skin of infants who died might relate to Cystic Fibrosis. Autopsies were done in
1838 on malnourished infants, these infants acclaimed a diseases of mucus that plugged the
glandular ducts, this was termed as cystic fibrosis of the pancreas by D.H. Anderson (Davis,
2006). Cystic Fibrosis was described by the following symptoms, malabsorption of fats and
proteins, growth failure, steatorrhea, and pulmonary infection (Davis, 2006). Numerous articles
began to appear during the early 1900s, these articles were describing newborns who had pancreatic
disorders (Shapiro Heussner, p.17).
Around 1944, scientists discovered that the widespread defect of mucous secretions could have a
big explanation for the many symptoms of cystic fibrosis (Shapiro Heussner, p.17). There was are
pattern of recessive inheritance patter that was proposed in 1946 (Todd 2001), by the 1950s many
advancements have been made, such as diagnosis and even the development of the sweat test and
successful treatments for lung infections by using antibiotics (Shapiro Heussner, p.17). In the year

Rate Of Osmosis
As suggested by the graph above and the data obtained through the conduction of the
experiment, an evident correlation between the surface area to volume ration and the rate of
osmosis can be implied. As can be seen from the graph, as the surface area and volume ratio of the
cube is increased, the % change in mass is decreased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 2 x
2 x 2 cube). In a contradicting manner, as the SA: V of the potatocube in decreased, the % change
in mass of the potato cube in increased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 1 x 1 x 1 cube).
This pattern in the data reinforces the hypothesising statement, which stated that if the size of
potato is larger, then the rate of osmosiswould be gradual due to its smaller volume to surface area
ratio, whereas if the size of the potato is smaller, then the rate of osmosis would be faster.
One explanation for the correlation between these variables is that an object with a large SA:V
ratio comprises of a smaller surface for the chemical/substance (salt solution) to move across,
allowing more compounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results of these two groups clearly differ from the other 4 groups. To exemplify, the results
for the % change in mass of the groups 1, 2, 3 and 5 range from 6 11% but the results of group 4
and 6 are 34.09 % and 0.99 % respectively. One probable explanation for this discrepancy in the
results is that the groups 4 and 6 may have conducted the experiment incorrectly. Potential factors
that may have caused these inconsistencies in results, include a damaged weighing scale and a
damaged timer, which could ve misled the experimenters of groups 4 and 6 by displaying the
incorrect time. This would mean that the potatoes were kept in the salt solution for more or less
than 20 minutes, which would explain the vast difference in the

Similarities Between Frankenstein And Edward Scissorhands
Frankenstein vs Edward Scissorhands
In Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein, and Tim Burton s film, Edward Scissorhands, both the
Creature and Edward have many challenges, and some are very similar. There are a couple distinct
differences between the two. While in Frankenstein and Edward Scissorhands, the main characters
are both wanting to be accepted, and are created out of curiosity, only Edward is loved and
accepted, and he isn t violent like the Creature.
The Creature and Edward are created by humans out of curiosity. In Edward Scissorhands, he is
constructed out of random things, but his creator didn t finish him before he passed away from a
heart attack. Edward says, I am not complete (Burton). The monsters are both odd looking, which
causes a burden when they are seeking acceptance. In Frankenstein, the Creature, later called Adam,
is constructed mainly by old body parts and other objects. Victor Frankenstein, Adam s creator,

difference between the creatures is Adam s violence toward others. He doesn t know how to
control his emotions, and ends up destroying things or even killing people, while Edward very

Group Therapy For Treatment Of Psychological Issues
Groups Reflection Peg Michaels Walden University Groups Reflection Through research, group
therapy has been proven to be as cost affective and therapeutically beneficial as individual therapy
for treatment of psychological issues (Corey, Corey Corey, 2010). For counselors to appropriately
facilitate many types of group therapy they need to develop certain skills. These skills can be
learned through cross training. Some counselors may find they only like to facilitate certain types
of groups, but they can overcome their personal discomfort by learning the strategies that are
available to assist them. This paper is about my group therapy conceptualization, world view, and
the group process. Conceptualization, process and dynamics Group counseling is facilitated by a
therapist or counselor, accommodating 5 to 15 clients, each attempting to achieve specific goals.
Corey (et al., 2010) tells us that counselors facilitate group movement through the use of different
technique to engage group participants. Counselors create a safe, judgement free place for
participants to interact with each other and the counselor. Members and the counselor provide
others in the group support and guidance during discussions. Though opening up in front of
strangers may feel intimidating at first, it allows the creation of the support network as well as a
sounding board for members to express their thought and feelings (Johnson, 2016). Facilitating the
group process requires the counselor to

South Carolina State Flag Essay
The history and culture of the state flag The south and especially the state of South Carolina is a
place where tradition and heritage is almost as important as the people that live in it. It is these
cultural inclinations that bring certain groups together. And for this reason the South Carolina
state flag is a symbol that represents the long lasting history that this state is known for. A lot of
stress has been brought to South Carolina about its flags and its history, but history is exactly
what it is. The symbolic meaning behind this flag brings a sense of state pride and cultural
awareness as it is extremely important to understand where you came from to figure out where you

The first state flag was actually shown and presented by South Carolina stamp act protesters in
1765. The banner that the protesters displayed did indeed have not one but three white crescents
on a blue background. Colonel William Moultrie in 1775 was asked by the South Carolina
voters to design a banner for the use of South Carolina State Troops. Moultrie decided to
approach the flag with a simplistic and direct design that displayed the crescent on a blue field.
The new flag was the same blue color of the soldier s uniforms and the silver crescent was the
symbol that the soldiers wore on the front of their caps. The crescent moon was not the only
form of symbolism used for the state flag also the flag has a palmetto tree, which is to high
importance and relevance to the state of South Carolina. The Palmetto tree, which is the South
Carolina State Tree, was added because of the use it had in the defense of Sullivan s Island
against an attack in 1776 during the American Revolution. British ships were not able to take
down the walls of the fort which were built by Palmetto logs. The cannonballs would eventually
have no effect on the fort because the soft palmetto tree would absorb the impact of the shock
given by the cannonball and simply fall of. The trees were a huge factor in the winning of that

Theories Of Personality And Psychosocial Development
Psychoanalysis and Psychosexuality
Carolyn Bennett
PSY/330 Theories of Personality
Maurita Hodge
04/27/2015
I have chosen psychosexual and psychosocial development; for my model of presentation. In
Freudian psychology, psychosexual development is a central element of the psychoanalytic sexual
drive theory, that human beings, from birth, possess an instinctual libido (sexual energy) that
develops in five stages. Each stage the oral, the anal, the phallic, the latent, and the genital is
characterized by the erogenous zone that is the source of the libidinal drive. Sigmund Freud
proposed that if the child experienced sexual frustration in relation to any psychosexual
developmental stage, he or she would experience anxiety that would persist into adulthood as a
neurosis, a functional mental disorder (Wikipedia)
Between World War one and world war two, Americans went to Europe to train for psychoanalysis
.
Ego psychology was the main therapeutic perspective that was brought back to America. For 50
years this type of psychoanalysis was based centrally on Sigmund Freud s The Ego and the Id
(1923) and The Problem of Anxiety (1936), followed by Anna Freud s Ego and the Mechanisms of
Defense (1936) and Heinz Hartmann s Psychoanalysis and the Problem of Adaptation (1939).
(American Psychoanalytic Association) This belief was dominant until 1970.
Today, the ego psychology that was dominant in American psychoanalytic thought for so many
years has been

Donald Justice s Poem Incident In A Rose Garden
Live While You Can
James 4:14
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are nothing more
than a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
Donald Justice wrote a poem called Incident in a Rose Garden, showing readers the true fact that
life is nothing more than a vapor. It evaporates almost as quickly as it is made. However, there is
beauty in it as well as surprise. He portrays this theme throughout the poem by using contrast and
irony.
Furthermore, there are many people that are scared of death and for good reasons. Although death is
final and cannot be undone, it is a beautiful thing. Mr. Justice shows this by using the literary
device of contrast. During the poem, Death is amid the rose gardens. When people think of roses,
they usually think of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donald Justice uses situational irony to establish to readers that death is sometimes unexpected.
The gardener realized this by saying I want to see my sons/ Once more before I die./ I want to
see California (Justice 17 19). The gardener realized almost too late that life is short. This is
apparent in his sudden push to see family and foreign places. Even though Death is not coming
for the Gardener, it was an important lesson that the Gardener learns. Many people believe that
they will never die or that they deserve to live forever. When, in fact, no one is owed life and no
one should have a sense of entitlement. In the poem, the master addresses death: Sir, you must be
that stranger/ Who threatened my gardener./ This is my property, sir (Justice 16 18). From this
quote, readers infer that the master does not believe that Death has any reason to be on his
property. In other words, the Master thinks he deserves a tomorrow even though he does not. Mr.
Justice uses situational irony to show readers how death will sometimes come at the moments one

Domain Name System Or Dns Is A Mechanism For Resolving...
Domain Name System or DNS is a mechanism for resolving host names into Internet Protocol
(IP) addresses and IP addresses back into host names. This is important because personally I feel
as though it can be kind of challenging to remember IP addresses so like a phone book if you
don t know a person s number but you can remember their name it can make things a whole lot
easier. So basically DNS is essentially providing that same service to computers. Paul
Mockapetris originally designed DNS at the University of California, Irvine in 1983 but many
others have helped in the development of DNS to make it what it is today. Before that a
protocol name Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) was being used but
a rapid growth of networks required a new system for maintaining the host names and addresses.
ARPNET was created by Dr. Jon Postel. In 1984, a couple UC Berkeley students wrote the first
Unix name server implementation. It was called the Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND)
Server. In 1985 it was revised and has since been then it has been a widely distributed mostly on
Unix systems, and which is still the most widely used DNS software on the Internet. Before I go
into more details about DNS, I will go through a quick run through on how to install DNS. It is
actually pretty simple to install/configure DNS but you need to make sure you have the
prerequisites installed before DNS can be setup. Installing a DNS server involves adding the DNS

Sheltering Sky versus Blood Meridian Essay
Extreme circumstances bring about substantial changes in people. At least that is what Paul
Bowles and Cormac McCarthy seem to be saying in the writing of their respective books, The
Sheltering Sky and Blood Meridian. Both authors place their characters in difficult locations,
dealing with difficult people and expect them to emerge changed, for better or for worse. In The
Sheltering Sky, Bowles takes his American trio and places them in the desert landsof the African
continent where the wide, dry impossibly desolate terrain takes its toll on their minds and bodies.
Likewise, McCarthy takes his ragged bunchof marauders, most prominently the Kid, and has them
wandering the massive expanse of the untamed west. This convention of forced... Show more

Both parties chance upon characters, both eccentric and dangerous, and all involved seem to get
themselves into the most impossible situations imaginable. Apparently the point Bowles and
McCarthy are trying to convey to the reader is that great change and substantial inner growth can
only come about through intense emotional stress and physical challenge.
Kit, in The Sheltering Sky, learns some very interesting things about herself through the course of
our travels with her. She starts out as Port s wife, a secondary character of sorts, afraid to voice
her opinions on virtually everything. We have the inside track on her thought s and feelings
though, and are privy to the fact that she is unhappy not only with her situation and current
location, but also with her marriage and identity. We get our first glimpse of her realization of
these problems on her train ride with Tunner, as Port is traveling with the Lyles. Her spontaneous
affair with Tunner is a symptom of her unhappiness and is the beginning of a downward spiral that
takes her to the brink of insanity and far beyond. We see the beginning of her growth in her
encounter in the Fourth Class cabin of the train when see comes in close contact with the miserable
peasant folk and she realizes that aside from their cultural differences she is no better than these
simple folk and in some ways she is far worse. As her story progresses we, the reader, get to see the

Gattac A Futuristic And Dystopian Society
Dystopia is defined as a futuristic, imaginary universe in which oppressive societal control and the
illusion of a perfect society are maintained through corporate, bureaucratic, technological, moral or

current trend, societal norm, or political system. The films I have chosen to analyze Snowpiercer
directed by Joon Ho Bong, Gattacadirected by Andrew Niccol both are movies that show this genre
of a futuristic and dystopian society. Snowpiercer and Gattaca show conventions that convey this
genre through a dystopian protagonist who standing up against a higher power, restrictions upon
freedom and inequality(discrimination) in Gattaca the protagonist Vincent stands up to the labels
of valids and invalids and the discrimination between the two labels in order to achieve his

Coca Cola And The Soft Drink Industry For A Long Time
Brands are a representation of the consumer s thought and opinion about the performance of a
product, and as a business owner, you might own the trademark, which identifies the brand, but
consumers will help define your brand (Boykin (no date)). Brands can also be defined as a
combination of a product name, trademark logo, unique packaging and design, but despite these
features, a brand does not truly exist yet because the product has no history. Therefore, this essay
examines how and why Coca Colahas dominated the soft drinkindustry for a long time compared to
other producers and this explains how branding has influenced the consumers and their buying
decision.
The strength of a brand differs from one industry to another. In the past, branding was used to
determine what goods belong to the different producers, but today, as well as determining the
difference, it is used to influence the buying decision of consumers and this is why it has become
a very important tool. The introduction of branding has become an influential part in the way we
as consumers live our lives, this is because for every purchase made, it is decided based on the
brand we are most influenced by. In this modern society, brands not only represent the product, but
also have a strong connection with perceived quality, consumers lifestyle, social class and taste.
Although, a newly established brand may have material makers (Name, logo and unique
packaging), the perception of the brand strength cannot

Belief In The Trinity
Belief in the Trinity A part of the Christian faith that has long been debated over, yet is a part of
our solid foundation, is the belief in the Triune God. Christians believe that there is only one God,
but God is also three individual and distinct beings. The Godhead is made up of God the Father, God
the Son, and God the Holy Spirt. It is important to note that although God is three different beings
they are all consider one God because of the oneness of their nature. Although, the Biblenever
explicitly speaks about the Trinity, each of the members of the Godhead can be seen working
together. The song This I Believe (The Creed) , by Hillsong Worship, takes many of its verses
from the Apostle s Creed. It speaks about the foundation of

A Short History Of Progress Summary
A Short History of Progress Written by Mister Ronald Wright, talks about the progress and the
issues of having too much change occur to a civilization, and how it can affect the outcome results
of a healthy progressing community. He mentioned the ups and downs that occurred to some
civilizations and how some triumphed while others did not. Which leads to the main dilemma
Wright argues about, which is the current destruction of the environment around us. Over
exploiting nature, over expanding, and overpopulating are problems that past societies have come
across and is now occurring in our time. These things are what helped societies prosper during
certain moments in history but they are now causing problems because we as people are abusing the

He grabs our attention by making us think about the three philosophical questions that the painter
and writer Paul Gauguin asked in one of his paintings. Where do we come from? What are we?
Where are we going? Wright tends to focus on the third question throughout the book to answer
where we are heading. He mentioned how some of the past history has been a cycle of what he
calls a progress trap. A progress trap is an action or notion that may help gain power, wealth, or
some type of benefit for some time but may result catastrophic at the end. That is why he focused
on the patterns in past civilization to see their rise and fall in history. Those civilizations that
achieved amazing things, for example the Mayan and Sumerians, would then fall victims to the
success they once achieved. Wright packs his book with proof that our longing for more is
leading us towards the same destruction like many great civilizations have in the past. We as
people are causing great harm to the ecosystem, which is something explained by Wright as a type
of impulse that people have had all through history. It is something we need to find a solution for
and put into action quickly. Mister Wright at the end made a good point Now is our last chance to

Decline Of Crime Rates In Canada
Throughout the years, crime rates in Canada s and the United States major cities have decreased
drastically. Regardless of the many factors that lead to increasing crime rates, such as
unemployment, or bad economic circumstances. This essay will examine the many factors leading
to the exponential decline of crimerates in North America. This essay will demonstrate how
unemployment and economic hardship does not always lead to higher crime rates, how the
growing increase of new technology aided in the decrease in crime rates, and the result of
government funded programs helping to reduce crime rate. These factors should be discussed
because it illustrates the progress of the judicial system and federal government throughout the
years and it shows that people most vulnerable to committing crimes may not always commit crime.
Similarly, it shows that economic factors leading to crime in the past are not always the case due to
positive behavioral changes throughout the years.
The general themes of the articles are based on economic factors, technology, the justice system
and people of certain age groups that are most likely to commit crimes, and how they all contribute
to the major decline in crime rates over the years. It is also stating the factors related to the rise in
crime and examining how they exponentially decreased as the world became more modernized. The

Mistrust And Opinion Between Members Of The Grand Alliance
Why did the foundations for mistrust and suspicion between the members of the Grand Alliance
already exist by 1945?
In 1945 the war had been fought on one side by the nations of Great Britain, USA and USSR, the
members of the Grand Alliance achieved victory in WW2. It was more important than ever the
victorious powers remained united as they faced the enormous task of reconstructing war torn
Europe. However, as they sought to do this, their unity was already weakened by the existence of
mistrust and suspicions between them. Despite the outward appearance of unity, these nations were

Southwest Airlines is a dynamic organization that is researched and studied by many. One reason
for this attention is the positive corporate culture. This culture attracts dynamic people to the

promoting the mission of the airline. This culture was established through effective planning,
organizing and leadership. To maintain this culture and the success of the airline, the function of

Because output is based on derived calculations of input, airlines could include or not include
certain data to make their output look better. Southwest uses a variety of output strategies to
monitor the company s performance and productivity (Owens Ritz, n.d.). The more factors that are
included the more accurate the output results.
The control mechanisms used by Southwest Airlines have been extremely effective and successful
in allowing the airline to respond to any problems or deficiencies whether financial or behavioral.
The control processes implemented by the airline allow it to take corrective action to repair these
deficiencies. For example, employees are expected to deliver exceptional service to both internal
and external customers of the airline. When behavior and work procedures do not meet the
standards, the controls in place allow management to recognize that there is a problem and
corrective action is taken. When an employee meets standards of performance, monitored through
behavior and output controls, they are rewarded with various rewards and incentives. Southwest
Airlines sees that every employee is valuable as an individual but even more valuable when all
employees work as a team accomplishing a common goal (Management Discussion, Feb 1, 2007).

Cause And Effect Of Video Games
The Effects of Video Games
Taz Ramsay
Lamar Community College
The Effects of Video Games Video games have been around since the early 1970 s . Computer
Space was the first video game to be produced, and it was created and developed by a company
called Nutting Associates. In 1972, a company called Atari introduced a game called Pong. Atari
was formed by a person named Nolan Bushnell, a developer of Computer Space, who left Nutting
Associates to found Atari, which then produced Pong. Pong was the first successful commercial
arcade video game . (How Stuff Works, 2017) How is a video game made? A video game is taken
through a step by step process requiring five main steps. The first step to making the video game
is the design or layout of the video game. The next step is to grabbing the materials needed to
make the game. The materials needed to make the game are different for each game, and it is
based on the game and/or game console. The third step in making a video game is going through
the manufacturing process. The steps include creating the story, captioning the games action with
art, recording dialogue and sound effects, writing the program, testing the game, burning the game
or disc, and packaging the game. These are all important for the next step of the next step in
making the game, which is ensuring the quality of the game. The final step is improvement,
because the producers want people to buy more games or stuff to help unlock stuff in the game.

American Chemical Corporation Case Summary
Introduction:
1) This report considers the potential purchase of the sodium chlorate producing plant in
Collinsville, Alabama by Dixon Corporation from American Chemical Corporation in October
1979. The reason for this stems from the fact that American Chemical Corporation was attempting
at the time to buy a controlling stake in Universal Paper Corporation, but the management of
Universal contested this on the basis that it would be anti competitive, given that they were both
producers of sodium chlorate. The US government supported Universal in this belief and in order
to prevent court action American had to agree to divest its sodium chlorate producing plant in
Collinsville, Alabama. As of October of 1979 Dixon has agreed to... Show more content on

2)Assumes cash flows are reinvested at a hurdle rate specified by Dixon, which accounts for the
required rate of return on the project given its risk profile (unlike the IRR, where cash flows are
assumed to be reinvested at the IRR).
3)Takes account of the time value of money by discounting the cash flows back to the present
period, with higher weightings given to more recent cash flows.
4)This discounting is done using our specified hurdle rate, ensuring that the discounted value
accounts for the required return on the project.
Now that we have determined that NPV is to be our evaluation method for the plant we need to
calculate a discount rate (or hurdle rate) for the plant based on its risk profile.
Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC)
11) In calculating a discount rate for this firm we need to ask Is it to be cost of debt, cost of
equity, or a weighted average of the two in a cost of capital? The financing for this project is
100% debt so the initial thought is to use cost of debt as the discount rate. However we believe
this to not be the correct approach. Debt as at October 30, 1979 (prior to the proposed acquisition)
was $1,000,00) while Stockholder s Equity was $14,718,000. So equity makes up a substantial

What Are The Disadvantages Of A Subscription Market
Strategic Issue Article Subscription boxes are one of the fastest growing trends in the business
and startup world. The concept is that a customer signs up for monthly home deliveries of items
that they desire. Companies finding success with this strategy include Fabletics and Gentleman
s Box. With the growing interest consumers have for convenience, it makes sense that home
delivered goods would be so popular among consumers. The growth of this industry can be
expected to continue to grow for many reasons, but most likely because of the low barriers to
entry. However, the issue is how is this growing trend impacting retail stores like Banana
Republic and Macey s. Pros: These subscription based companies are quickly taking over the
retail market. The biggest pro for the consumer to a subscription based clothing service is
convenience. These clothing subscription services generally entail clothes picked for you by a
stylist in your selected size, which are sent directly to your door every month. The consumer is
able to try on the items in the comfort of their own home. If they don t like it, they have the
option to send it back. However, if they do like it, then their monthly subscription cost goes
towards any items they decide to keep. If the cost of what they keep is greater than the
subscription service, they charge the consumer s card for the remaining clothes, typically at a
discounted price. On the business side there are a few major upsides to retail based

Essay On Tax Reform
Overall, Democrats are against this tax reform and believe that it is being put in place to benefit
wealthy Americans. Democrat Jonathan Chait was interviewed in New York Magazine and he
believes that the tax cuts within the reform are specifically benefiting the rich. His suggestion was
that Democrats, in 2020, run a campaign that focuses on exposing Mr. Trump s false populism and
advocating for increased social spending. 6 The 51 49 vote in the Senate shows that no Senate
Democrats voted in favor of this taxreform; which speaks volumes about their thoughts on the bill.

The conditions of the country determines how much time a President can put into specific
promises. With the current situation of America and the world, President Trump has not been
given ample time to focus on his campaign promises.8 Again, there are many factors that stand in
the way of a President fulfilling their promises and President Trump is no exception to these
conditions. There have been many hurdles he has had to overcome to successfully do anything
as President. One of President Trump s biggest campaign promises was the promise to dismantle
ObamaCare and to create a better healthcare system for Americans. This principle was a large
part of his campaign and one that encouraged his supporters that there would be a change in
America s government. Recently, in July, President Trump attempted to pass a bill that

Trump. He has been able to overcome many hurdles and keep one of his major campaign

Examples Of Sentences
Just how do we start that perfect sentence? It can be a tough decision. Sentence beginnings are
like first impressions, and we want to make sure they re right. And while there s no single correct
way to start a sentence, we need to vary them to ensure our writing doesn t get stale or boring.
So, what makes a bad sentence beginning anyway? Are there rules? Well, no, but let s look at some
examples of how repeated simple sentence openings can become stilted and tough to read. For
example:
John went to the store. Anthony went with him. They bought food and drinks. They bought flowers
for John s mother. The man at the cash register smiled at them and gave them a discount. They
returned home and put away the groceries.
What do all these sentence beginnings have in common? As we can see, each one consists of a
noun followed by a verb. Unfortunately, these simple sentences quickly become boring, decreasing
the impact of our writing. Let s see what happens when we vary them a bit. ... Show more content

Smiling, the man at the cash register gave them a discount. Returning home, the two put the

See how much better this flows? Here, we ve left the simple noun verb structure for the first
sentence, but, in the second, we ve used smiling as a participial or transitional word. And in the
third, we ve emphasized the action of returning home, rather than the two boys.
Let s look at some other ways to rearrange simple sentence beginnings (e.g. common noun verb
constructions) and add some variety to our work. Remember, our goal here is not only to minimize
the use of simple sentence openings it s to become better writers!

My First Activity Of The Food Pantry
My first activity that I was involved in with Catholic Social Services was the food pantry. As my
children progressed through high school, I knew certain classes or clubs were involved with
participating in food drives. Our house was one of the most targeted homes for quite some time
as we live directly across the street from St. Michael s Elementary School which is where some
of the organizations met. St. Cecilia s is also a school that requires wearing a uniform and,
occasionally, the kids could have a free jeans day if each student brought in so many items for
the food pantry and my children were no different than a lot of the others...they wanted to wear
jeans so they would raid my pantry to take food to school. I did not really give it much thought at
the time when I was pulling food from my pantry of how this small act of kindness would help
others. I knew there was a need for the food otherwise the food drive would not take place. I was so
naГЇve in my thought process at that time. The night that I helped sort food at the food pantry
was a major eye opener. My role for the evening was to help supervise high school students, who
were sorting through the food as a community service project. When I walked into the basement
where the food sorting was done, I found several areas that housed certain foods. In talking with

for the characters. Margot, the wife of Francis, is challenged by the temptation to have relations

about her crime and is deeply shaken. Well, why doesn t he keep his wife where she belongs?
What does he think I am, a bloody plaster saint? Let him keep her where she belongs. It s his own
fault (Hemingway 13). By the tone of Wilson thoughts, it is inferred that he is not able to find
fault in himself and decides to blame it on the most vulnerable person, Francis. In spite of
Wilson being the only man to blame for this whole incident, Margot can also take part of the
blame. She appears to be a faithful and caring wife, but her actions do not justify this statement.

Aladdin rubbed the lamp as the lights went out, then a swirling image moved around in circles

demand supply. Nevertheless, an efficient protection system requires an adequate investment in
such devices as reclosers, fuses and sectionalizers. Thus, two conflictive objectives arise, namely,
NOp investment minimization and reliability maximization.
In this sense, the number and location of devices in the system are critical variables to accomplish
preceding objectives. Here, we focus on recloser based protection systems.
Specifically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, it is necessary to apply metaheuristic approaches.
The remainder of this paper is organized as follows. In section II efficient planning of NCRs by
applying a multiobjective optimization approach is described. The optimization problem
formulation is presented in Section III, along with objective functions details. Section IV presents
the MOEAs to solve the multiobjective optimization problem. Here, the revised non dominated
sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA II), and non dominated sorting differential evolution (NSDE) are
detailed. The test system is given in section V, and simulation results are provided in section VI.
Finally, conclusions are drawn and future research is suggested.
II. MULTIOBJECTIVE OPTIMIZATION APPROACH
In most real world optimization problems the solution must to be found considering multiple
objectives instead of one.
Whereas these objectives are often in conflict, a trade off relation among them arises. that is, it is
necessary to sacrifice the performance of one or more objectives to enhance the other ones. Let us
consider, in the context of this paper, the decisionmaking involved in the sizing of the protection
system and the placement of NCRs. The amount of protective devices in a DS can vary from any
recloser to a few. Let us take two extreme hypothetical cases: 1) non branch has the

Introduction
Biology mainly concentrates on the study of life and any other factors that affect it positively or
negatively. The study of biology is further sub divided into sections and the most important being
genetics that studies the genetically composition and effects to human life. For instance, gigantism
which is an abnormal growth caused by the excess hormone growth at childhood before the bone
plates closes. Though gigantism is rare, it is caused due to some factors among them;
Noncancerous tumor of the pituitary gland, Neurofibromatosis, McCune Albright Syndrome
(MAS), Carney complex and Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1(MEN 1). This abnormal growth
occurs mainly before the closure of the bone growth plate. In any case the ... Show more content on

How growth hormone regulate various body functions in adults. The growth hormones mainly
regulate the body functions via feedback loops. The process is a two way mode of
communication whereby the target organ releases molecules that regulate the endocrine. The
feedback loops are mainly concerned with the maintenance of the hormonal concentration within
range. Endocrine disorder can be classified based on the underproduction or excess production of
the hormone (Medical Discoveries, 2011). The growth hormone is mainly produced from the
brain and it stimulates insulin like factor (IGF 1). It also mediates the actions of HGH which
regulates variety of biological activities including cellular division, development of the body,
overall growth and metabolism. It also plays an important role in body composition, bone and
muscle strength. The growth hormones play an important role in adults because growth factors
have an important role in longevity determination and aging. The growth hormone reverses some
of the first signs and symptoms seen in aging and affects the hair color, brain cells and cellulite.
The growth hormone decreases as age increases but HGH, HGH releasing hormone and IGF 1 are
responsible for the strengthening of muscles and bones and prevention of frailty among older
people. However, the hormones affecting the important body processes

  • 2. Meditations Of Marcus Aurelius Summary The title of the book I read for the analysis is The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius written by Marcus Aurelius. The book was originally written in Greek therefore it has been translated into English and several other languages. The version that I read was published by Penguin in 2006 and translated by Micahel Hmmond. The Meditations is a very unique book because it was never meant to be published. The author of the book, Marcus Aurelius, was a Roman emperor from 161 180 AD. He was born in present day Cordoba, Spain to noble Roman parents. His father was a Roman politician and his mother a Roman heiress. In Rome, the succession rules to become emperor are not based on consanguinity; instead, the Emperor or Caesar chooses who he wants his successor to be. The senate then approves or rejects the Emperor s candidate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mountain gorilla resides in the beautiful mountain regions of Uganda and Rwanda and the population of these gorillas is around 700 and is increasing at very slow rate. The most major factor behind their endangerment is humanencroachment because what human encroachment is the gradual take over an area. Ever since her birth in 1932 Dian Fossey has been facturated with all types of wildlife and when Dr. Louis Leakey gave her the opportunity to travel to Africaand lead a long term field research, she immediately accepted. During her time in Africa she would learn how to track and identify different gorilla groups and identify the gorillas in each group. It would take some time but, sooner or later she was gaining the gorillas trust by imitating the body language, eating habitats and the vocalizations of the gorillas that she had studied. Throughout her stay she would deal with multiple poachers, that would kill the gorillas she was studying even her favorite gorilla, Digit. Her way of dealing with the poachers was that she would use what she calls active conservation, in which she would fight the poachers face to face. She used active conservation because she was certain that the long term efforts would eventually become useless because all the gorillas would be dead and there would be nothing to save. What she did that was considered active conservation were the efforts that include, wearing mask that scared the poachers, burning the poachers traps, and on occasion she would force confrontation with the poachers and to stop the threat of human encroachment she would spray paint cattle to discourage the herders. With all the good she was doing with these tactics, she soon became the target of the people she was affecting and would later become the victim of a mysterious death. Her murder was the birth of multiple conspiracy theories such as angry poachers killed her, political leaders hired poachers to kill her, and even one of her colleagues became a victim of one these theories. As of today there is still no definite answer to who killed her, but the work she started is still going on at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Hospital Sketches Louisa May Alcott Summary In the nonfictitious narrative Hospital Sketches, written by Louisa May Alcott in 1863, she develops a strong argument concerning human compassion in a time of war. She was able to do this with strong uses of dialogue, pathos, and figurative language. The dialogue present in the narrative provides feelings of sorrow for the patients like John. When John asks whether or not the doctors think the battle is going to be his last, Alcott responds with I m afraid they do, providing a mood of hopelessness for John s future, and pity for him (Alcott para. 7 8). Alcott also has feelings of survivor guilt, in which she feels bad about living when people like John are dying for their country. She feels empathy, and wants to be able to help John bear it so he can live (Alcott para. 5). She has compassion for him, and she will be sorrowful to see him go. Pathos, the appeal to emotions, is shown with the melancholy actions shown by the characters. After Alcott is told about the hopelessness of the scenario, she could have sat down on the spot and cried heartily, telling us directly of the deep depression that... The imagery painted, as well as the simile, makes us see that the only path is death and there is no way to block it. Furthermore, as John continues to lie there, a gray veil, a metaphor for death, was falling over his face that no human hand could move, exemplifying the mood of uselessness that was set (Alcott para. 10). In the second half of the year geopolitical tensions like an earthquake in Japan, growth in debt in several Euro countries, tensions in the bond and interbank market led to uncertainty in the global financial markets which negatively influenced the Austrian labour market pushing the unemployment rate on a level of 4.3%. 2012 is considered to be a year of economic slowdown. A Research Study On Cystic Fibrosis Brief History Cystic Fibrosis was first recognized in 1938, as an individual disease or distinct entity, which basically means that the symptoms were not related to any other illness (Davis, 2006), but there was a common passage in the Almanac of Children s Songs and Games from Switzerland , the passage read, the child will soon die who s brow tastes salty when kissed , which hinted at the saltiness of the skin of infants who died might relate to Cystic Fibrosis. Autopsies were done in 1838 on malnourished infants, these infants acclaimed a diseases of mucus that plugged the glandular ducts, this was termed as cystic fibrosis of the pancreas by D.H. Anderson (Davis, 2006). Cystic Fibrosis was described by the following symptoms, malabsorption of fats and proteins, growth failure, steatorrhea, and pulmonary infection (Davis, 2006). Numerous articles began to appear during the early 1900s, these articles were describing newborns who had pancreatic disorders (Shapiro Heussner, p.17). Around 1944, scientists discovered that the widespread defect of mucous secretions could have a big explanation for the many symptoms of cystic fibrosis (Shapiro Heussner, p.17). There was are pattern of recessive inheritance patter that was proposed in 1946 (Todd 2001), by the 1950s many advancements have been made, such as diagnosis and even the development of the sweat test and successful treatments for lung infections by using antibiotics (Shapiro Heussner, p.17). • 9. Rate Of Osmosis As suggested by the graph above and the data obtained through the conduction of the experiment, an evident correlation between the surface area to volume ration and the rate of osmosis can be implied. As can be seen from the graph, as the surface area and volume ratio of the cube is increased, the % change in mass is decreased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 2 x 2 x 2 cube). In a contradicting manner, as the SA: V of the potatocube in decreased, the % change in mass of the potato cube in increased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 1 x 1 x 1 cube). This pattern in the data reinforces the hypothesising statement, which stated that if the size of potato is larger, then the rate of osmosiswould be gradual due to its smaller volume to surface area ratio, whereas if the size of the potato is smaller, then the rate of osmosis would be faster. One explanation for the correlation between these variables is that an object with a large SA:V ratio comprises of a smaller surface for the chemical/substance (salt solution) to move across, allowing more compounds ... Group Therapy For Treatment Of Psychological Issues Groups Reflection Peg Michaels Walden University Groups Reflection Through research, group therapy has been proven to be as cost affective and therapeutically beneficial as individual therapy for treatment of psychological issues (Corey, Corey Corey, 2010). For counselors to appropriately facilitate many types of group therapy they need to develop certain skills. These skills can be learned through cross training. Some counselors may find they only like to facilitate certain types of groups, but they can overcome their personal discomfort by learning the strategies that are available to assist them. This paper is about my group therapy conceptualization, world view, and the group process. Conceptualization, process and dynamics Group counseling is facilitated by a therapist or counselor, accommodating 5 to 15 clients, each attempting to achieve specific goals. Corey (et al., 2010) tells us that counselors facilitate group movement through the use of different technique to engage group participants. The banner that the protesters displayed did indeed have not one but three white crescents on a blue background. Colonel William Moultrie in 1775 was asked by the South Carolina voters to design a banner for the use of South Carolina State Troops. Moultrie decided to approach the flag with a simplistic and direct design that displayed the crescent on a blue field. • 15. Theories Of Personality And Psychosocial Development Psychoanalysis and Psychosexuality Carolyn Bennett PSY/330 Theories of Personality Maurita Hodge 04/27/2015 I have chosen psychosexual and psychosocial development; for my model of presentation. In Freudian psychology, psychosexual development is a central element of the psychoanalytic sexual drive theory, that human beings, from birth, possess an instinctual libido (sexual energy) that develops in five stages. Each stage the oral, the anal, the phallic, the latent, and the genital is characterized by the erogenous zone that is the source of the libidinal drive. Sigmund Freud proposed that if the child experienced sexual frustration in relation to any psychosexual developmental stage, he or she would experience anxiety that would persist into adulthood as a neurosis, a functional mental disorder (Wikipedia) Between World War one and world war two, Americans went to Europe to train for psychoanalysis . Ego psychology was the main therapeutic perspective that was brought back to America. For 50 years this type of psychoanalysis was based centrally on Sigmund Freud s The Ego and the Id (1923) and The Problem of Anxiety (1936), followed by Anna Freud s Ego and the Mechanisms of Defense (1936) and Heinz Hartmann s Psychoanalysis and the Problem of Adaptation (1939). Furthermore, there are many people that are scared of death and for good reasons. Although death is final and cannot be undone, it is a beautiful thing. Domain Name System or DNS is a mechanism for resolving host names into Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and IP addresses back into host names. This is important because personally I feel as though it can be kind of challenging to remember IP addresses so like a phone book if you don t know a person s number but you can remember their name it can make things a whole lot easier. So basically DNS is essentially providing that same service to computers. Paul Mockapetris originally designed DNS at the University of California, Irvine in 1983 but many others have helped in the development of DNS to make it what it is today. Before that a protocol name Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) was being used but a rapid growth of networks required a new system for maintaining the host names and addresses. ARPNET was created by Dr. Jon Postel. In 1984, a couple UC Berkeley students wrote the first Unix name server implementation. It was called the Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) Server. In 1985 it was revised and has since been then it has been a widely distributed mostly on Unix systems, and which is still the most widely used DNS software on the Internet. Before I go into more details about DNS, I will go through a quick run through on how to install DNS. These factors should be discussed because it illustrates the progress of the judicial system and federal government throughout the years and it shows that people most vulnerable to committing crimes may not always commit crime. Similarly, it shows that economic factors leading to crime in the past are not always the case due to positive behavioral changes throughout the years. The general themes of the articles are based on economic factors, technology, the justice system and people of certain age groups that are most likely to commit crimes, and how they all contribute to the major decline in crime rates over the years. It is also stating the factors related to the rise in crime and examining how they exponentially decreased as the world became more modernized. In 1945 the war had been fought on one side by the nations of Great Britain, USA and USSR, the members of the Grand Alliance achieved victory in WW2. It was more important than ever the victorious powers remained united as they faced the enormous task of reconstructing war torn Europe. However, as they sought to do this, their unity was already weakened by the existence of mistrust and suspicions between them. Computer Space was the first video game to be produced, and it was created and developed by a company called Nutting Associates. In 1972, a company called Atari introduced a game called Pong. Atari was formed by a person named Nolan Bushnell, a developer of Computer Space, who left Nutting Associates to found Atari, which then produced Pong. Pong was the first successful commercial arcade video game . (How Stuff Works, 2017) How is a video game made? A video game is taken through a step by step process requiring five main steps. The first step to making the video game is the design or layout of the video game. The next step is to grabbing the materials needed to make the game. The materials needed to make the game are different for each game, and it is based on the game and/or game console. The third step in making a video game is going through the manufacturing process. The steps include creating the story, captioning the games action with art, recording dialogue and sound effects, writing the program, testing the game, burning the game or disc, and packaging the game. These are all important for the next step of the next step in making the game, which is ensuring the quality of the game. American Chemical Corporation Case Summary Introduction: 1) This report considers the potential purchase of the sodium chlorate producing plant in Collinsville, Alabama by Dixon Corporation from American Chemical Corporation in October 1979. The reason for this stems from the fact that American Chemical Corporation was attempting at the time to buy a controlling stake in Universal Paper Corporation, but the management of Universal contested this on the basis that it would be anti competitive, given that they were both producers of sodium chlorate. The US government supported Universal in this belief and in order to prevent court action American had to agree to divest its sodium chlorate producing plant in Collinsville, Alabama. Now that we have determined that NPV is to be our evaluation method for the plant we need to calculate a discount rate (or hurdle rate) for the plant based on its risk profile. The concept is that a customer signs up for monthly home deliveries of items that they desire. Companies finding success with this strategy include Fabletics and Gentleman s Box. With the growing interest consumers have for convenience, it makes sense that home delivered goods would be so popular among consumers. The growth of this industry can be expected to continue to grow for many reasons, but most likely because of the low barriers to entry. However, the issue is how is this growing trend impacting retail stores like Banana Republic and Macey s. Pros: These subscription based companies are quickly taking over the retail market. The biggest pro for the consumer to a subscription based clothing service is convenience. These clothing subscription services generally entail clothes picked for you by a stylist in your selected size, which are sent directly to your door every month. The consumer is able to try on the items in the comfort of their own home. If they don t like it, they have the option to send it back. However, if they do like it, then their monthly subscription cost goes towards any items they decide to keep. If the cost of what they keep is greater than the subscription service, they charge the consumer s card for the remaining clothes, typically at a discounted price. And while there s no single correct way to start a sentence, we need to vary them to ensure our writing doesn t get stale or boring. So, what makes a bad sentence beginning anyway? Are there rules? Well, no, but let s look at some examples of how repeated simple sentence openings can become stilted and tough to read. For example: John went to the store. Anthony went with him. They bought food and drinks. They bought flowers for John s mother. The man at the cash register smiled at them and gave them a discount. They returned home and put away the groceries.
