Much of the literature and research related to the use of cognitive behavioral therapy in the
treatment of chronic pain is rather new. Overall, upon reviewing the available literature, it appears
as though research is focused on determining what particular chronic pain populations experience
the most success with CBT based treatments. To begin, Loebach Wetherell et al. (2016) recently
published the results of their study on the impact of age on the efficacy of CBT and acceptance and
commitment therapy (ACT) in the treatment of chronic pain. The 114 individuals who participated
in this study were between the ages of 18 and 89. In order to be included in this study, subjects had
to have been suffering from nonmalignant, chronic pain for a minimum of six months and have a
minimum score of 5 on the severity and interference subscales of the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI)
(Loebach Wetherell, Petkus, et al., 2016, p. 303). Following a medical and psychiatric evaluation,

Seleucids integrated the Jewish kingdom into theirs when the lands where divided. The Jews

Jewish religious rites and traditions. As a result this created a national rebellion led by Judas
Maccabeus. These rebels became known as the Maccabees, or Hasmoneans. The Maccabean
Revolt lasted from 174 135 BCE and the story of how the Maccabees purified the temple of
Jerusalemwhen they took it back was the start of the Jewish holiday Hanukkah. For this part the

The painting was a lie.
A bright, pretty lie, bursting with pale pink blooms and fat beams of sunshine.
I d begun it yesterday, an idle study of the rose garden lurking beyond the open windows of the
studio. Through the tangle of thorns and satiny leaves, the brighter green of the hills rolled away
into the distance.
Incessant, unrelenting spring.
If I d painted this glimpse into the court the way my gut had urged me, it would have been flesh
shredding thorns, flowers that choked off the sunlight for any plants smaller than them, and rolling
hills stained red.
But each brushstroke on the wide canvas was calculated; each dab and swirl of blending colors

The first example can be seen in the title of this story the aspect of snow suggests purity that
audiences have come to associate with the colour white whilst the word child suggests the
innocence that can only be possessed by children so young.
The connotations carried by colour are used to give us an insight into the personalities of both the
Count and the Countess. For we are told that the Count rides on a grey mare and the Countess on
a black one . Therefore, if the colour white is associated with purity and goodness as previously
mentioned, the colour black is at the opposite end of the spectrum, seeming to suggest evil whilst
the colour grey is in between not totally good but not totally evil either. This begs the question,
certainly in mind, as to whether or not we are supposed to feel some sort of ambivalence towards
the Count, given his associated colours however, his language and his later actions seem to deter
this thought.

At face value, this certainly seems to suggest sexual desire yet the words girl , suggests innocence
and the colour white used in the simile suggests purity, possibly virginal purity which in today s

Marist Varsity Team Analysis
This past summer, our Marist Varsity team worked the basketball camp. I coached a group of six
to ten year old girls. One girl was much better at basketball than the rest of the girls, and the
other girls started to be mean to her and her mean to them. This then lead to the girls not working
well together on the court. I decided to leave my coaches out of it, and handle it on my own.
