Essays On Postmodernism
Writing an essay on the subject of postmodernism can be a challenging endeavor.
Postmodernism is a complex and multifaceted intellectual movement that spans various
disciplines, including literature, art, philosophy, and cultural studies. Its elusive nature,
characterized by a rejection of grand narratives and a celebration of pluralism and ambiguity,
makes it difficult to pin down and define.
One of the challenges in crafting an essay on postmodernism lies in navigating through the
diverse perspectives and theories associated with this concept. Postmodernism encompasses a
range of ideas, from deconstructionist literary theories to poststructuralist philosophical
frameworks, each with its own nuances and implications. Striking a balance between providing a
comprehensive overview and delving into specific aspects can be a delicate task.
Moreover, the evolving nature of postmodern thought poses another hurdle. As an intellectual
movement, postmodernism continues to shape and reshape itself, responding to societal changes
and ongoing debates. This dynamism necessitates a thorough understanding of both historical
perspectives and contemporary developments, adding a layer of complexity to the essay-writing
process.
The challenge extends to the critical analysis required for an essay on postmodernism. Engaging
with postmodern texts and artworks demands a keen awareness of the interplay between form
and content, as well as an ability to decipher the underlying themes and critiques. Navigating the
labyrinth of postmodern discourse requires a nuanced approach that goes beyond merely
summarizing ideas to critically evaluating and synthesizing them.
In conclusion, composing an essay on postmodernism involves grappling with the intricate nature
of the subject, navigating diverse perspectives, keeping abreast of ongoing developments, and
conducting critical analyses. It requires a deep understanding of the intellectual landscape and a
willingness to engage with the complexities inherent in postmodern thought. For those seeking
assistance with such essays or similar academic tasks, various resources, including writing
services like HelpWriting.net, offer support in crafting well-researched and insightful pieces on
a range of topics.

Robert Frost s Poetry
In three words I can sum up everything I ve learned about life: it goes on (Robert
Frost). March, 1874. The United States of America continues to recover from the
effects of the Civil War. The Reconstruction Era is in full swing and segregation is at
a new high point. The Chinese were being discriminated throughout California
throughout the 1870s. In 1882, due to the high rate of Chinese immigrants, the
Chinese Exclusion Act was passed by Congress. This act meant that no Chinese
immigrant could enter the United States for a period of ten years. At the beginning
of the new century, the first World War began. As a result of World War One, art
began to evolve. Publishers across the globe documented about The Great War and

Frost s ability to appeal to the common man through complex ideas and unique
writing style has changed American poetry from an old writing style to a new,
modern style. With not only making himself a household name through his many
popular works, he also has been awarded four Pulitzer Prize awards for his poetic
books. In schools throughout the United States, Robert Frost s poems are being read
and examined today. In conclusion, it is clear that his poems will forever have a
lasting impact on not only American literature, but also American

Nuclear Fission Lab Report
NUCLEAR FISSION
INTRODUCTION
Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassman, two German chemists discovered the process of
nuclear fission on 17th December, 1938. However, it was theoretically explained
later by two Austrian British physicists, Lise Meitner and Otto Robert Frisch in the
1939. Nuclear fission is the process by which a heavy nucleus disintegrates or decays
into two lighter nuclei of slightly similar weights when they absorb slow moving
neutrons known as thermal neutrons. The nuclei undergoing disintegration is known
as the parent nuclei and the nuclei s formed after the decay are known as the
daughter nuclei. Along with the daughter nuclei very large amount of energy is also
released and some gamma photons are also released. The ... Show more content on

In this explanation they assumed the nucleus of a heavy atom to be comparable to
a spherical drop of liquid. The spherical shape of the liquid drop is maintained due
to surface tension of water and also due columbic force of attraction. When a
neutron is absorbed by the nuclei its energy is increased due to increased
oscillations, due to which there is change in the spherical shape of the water
droplet to ellipsoidal. if further there is increase in the oscillating energy, the
columbic force of attraction between the nucleons decreases so the shape becomes
more irregular and becomes dumb bell. The surface tension of water tends to make
the water droplet to obtain its original shape which, finally, takes place by breaking
the water droplet into two smaller water droplets of almost comparable sizes.
Similarly, the nuclear fission process can be explained. The following diagram
below shows various steps in the liquid drop

has continued with as much normaility as she can.
Foundations of client s health and behaviour
Who is the client?
A lady named May Dunne of who is aged 68years old, suffering from rheumatoid
arthritis since 1995. May had hobbies such as playing the piano, sewing and
watching TV. May finished school and became a housewife to David Dunne and
five children. May liked to look after the house, and to bake and cook for the
family. A number of questions were asked to May, to provide understanding how
she has dealt with her chronic illness as well as how she perceives her illness in
effect of her daily activities and lifestyle.
May s pain became more noticeable and she became stiff, her body would ache and
she was becoming slower in movement. It was diagnosed by her doctor with x ray
and blood results that May had rheumatoid arthritis. It has been treated with vitamin
supplements, medication and oils/rubs to ease the pain. As the continuation of the
case study proceeds May will be referred to as the client.
The importance of health and illness to the client
The client was asked how important it was to maintain a healthy family was to her,
the client responded looking after five children on a farm you have to make do with
what you have and most of the things the kids got, I made. The client also stated The
nearest health facility to her was about 2 hours
I Am After The Nuclear Incident
Losing a family and everything a person every had, is a horrible experience.
Losing hope and not having a reason to live daunts you. According to Sakue, there
are two kinds of courage the courage to live and the courage to die. First, the
courage to live. I believe that the courage to live after the nuclear incident is
extremely hard. Merely a strong person is capable of facing the fear. Courage to
live is not giving up on life, but showing you still have a hope of finding something
else to live upon. You stay strong and show others, the people who let you down,
of how strong you are. People who the courage to live are not running away from
their problem, but rather fighting through it. Second, the courage to die, people
who have the courage to die are strong enough to let go and never face it every
again. They chose to die because they don t have anything to look after for. It is not
that they choose to hide away but they chose not to face the terrible obstacles in
life. For instance, when someone is on life support and their family has chosen to
get them off the life support; it is not because the person is weak, but that they have
no other option. That person is bearing through a lot of pain and letting go of them
would be the only best option there is to lessen the pain.
Katsuji, Yoshida, the man who was the victim of Hiroshima and Nagasaki s nuclear
weapon attack was going through a difficult phase. Even when it was not his fault, he
was being treated differently; he
African American Slave Revolts
In this paper, I am discussing Slave Revolts. Slave Revolts are best defined as the
rising of slavery in a specific state or country. Enslaved Africans resisted, or
rebelled, against their position as slaves in many ways. Each expression of
resistance by enslaved individuals or groups counted as acts of rebellion against the
system of slavery. The slaves could avoid work, by working as slowly as they
dared, or by pretending to be sick. There are many famous examples of slave revolts,
such as The Haitian Revolt, The Bussa Revolt, and the Nat Turner Revolt. From 1791
to 1804, the Haitian Revolt occurred. This revolution, regarded as the largest and
successful revolt in history (History.com), it took place in the French colony of Saint
Domingue, that escalated with the elimination of slavery in Haiti. The revolt would
prove that Haiti could come from the under rule of white Europeans. This resulted in
the birth of Haiti and the birth of the independent government.... Show more content

In Southampton, Virginia, Nat Turner lead a rebellion on the Belmont plantation.
Nathanial Nat Turner (1800 1831) was a black American slave who led the only
effective, sustained slave rebellion August 1831. Slaves were massacred 55 to 65
white militias. The fouled rebellion would lead to Nat Turner being tried and hung
for revolting against the whites. The rebellion began when Turner s small band of
hatchet wielding slaves killed his master, Joseph Travis, along with his wife, nine
year old son and a hired hand as they slept in their beds. Realizing they had left one
family member alive in the house, two slaves returned to the Travis home and
killed a little infant sleeping in a cradle before dumping its body in the fireplace. As
they swept through the countryside, Turner s men freed slaves as they continued the
killings. Upwards of 75 of them joined the uprising over the ensuing two days and

Comparing Persey Jackson and the Odysseus Essay
A hero must never leave his friends behind even if he must force them to go with
him. In The Odyssey by Homer, in the chapter The Lotus Eaters Odysseus arrives
on an island were three of his crew eat the Lotus and fight to stay on the island. In
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan when Percy goes to the Lotus Casino his
friends are stuck and he must force them out. Odysseus and Percy are similar
because they are heroes who encounter the Lotus Eaters while on a quest, but they
are different because Odysseus is on an island, while Percy is in a casino. Odysseus
and Percy are similar because they both are stuck with the Lotus Eaters and must help
their friends escape by forcing them. Odysseus must force his men off the island,

This means this makes him a savior who was not affected or fooled by the Lotus.
On the other hand, Percy was affected by the Lotus and had to shake out of it
before helping his friends. Percy was affected but slowly noticed I tried to
remember why we were here. We were going to Los Angeles. We were supposed to
find the entrance to the Underworld. My mother . . . For a scary second, I had
trouble remembering her name. Sally. Sally Jackson. I had to find her, I had to stop
Hades from causing World War III. This shows Percy awakening from the Lotus,
and remembering his mission, unlike Odysseus who was never affected or blinded.
While he was fooled and blinded, Percy still woke from the affects and helped his
friends wake up and escape. Percy and Odysseus were different from one another in
many ways. Odysseus and Percy both similarly encountered the Lotus Eaters while on
a quest and must rescue their friends, but they meet them in different places and save
their friends differently. Both heroes had saved their friends from the Lotus, but their
saving methods differed from the others. Many heroes have similarities but they are
also different from one another even in their similarities.
Coming Of Age Stories From China Essay
Coming of Age Stories The Cultural Revolution could be defined as one of the
disasters in China. In that period, most of the students were forced to become sent
down youth and lost chances to be educated at school. However, Chinese people
explored some important spirits in this period. Both Wang and Zheng experienced the
transition period in China and they left valuable gifts to the next generation in China.
When they recalled their sent down youth experience, both of them found the positive
point inside this dark period. In the period of Cultural Revolution, the sent down
youth movement made most people considers the meaning of life. According to
Zheng s article, Images Memories Lives, In this former sent down youth are
presented as cheerful youth men and women, physical strong and wealth, their labor
rights and easy to shoulder. At that time, youth started to think about if they joined
the sent down youth movement, they would gain the most benefit because they
became society constructors. During the movement, they were not only make money
for their families, but also contributed to the development of socialism in
countryside. To be equal was one of the most important points in socialism and sent
down youth movement made whole society approached to this main point. Based on
Zheng s memoir, They also take solace in the spiritual support and companionship
they offered one another in the countryside and seek to keep these relationships alive.

Taming Of The Shrew Research Paper
In the play taming of the shrew and 10 things I hate about you, I believe relationships
are shown differently because in 10 things I hate about you relationships are shown
through just dating out of fun/ love instead of in taming of the shrew where it was
about money and kind of an agreement with the father and no choice for the women.
This is seen in the relationships of Katherine and Petruchio.
The difference between the relationship of Katherine and Petruchio in the play

said. For I am he born to tame you, Kate, and bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate
conformable as other household kates. This shows their relationship because of
the time period on how he was responsible for making her his woman and she
wouldn t really tame herself and she didn t have a choice. I think Petruchio really
did love her he just didn t know how to show it because of the time period. In the
movie he treated his women way better and actually took care of her when she was
drunk and cared for her way more than in the play where he basically hated her and
just wanted to marry her for her money. In the play petruchio wouldn t even stay at
their wedding and he wanted to leave but Kat wouldn t. Their relationship in the play
was very directed and structured around money where in the movie it was more
surrounded around there feelings and how they actually enjoyed being
The Productivity Of South Africa Essay
Productivity, defined as making the most of limited resources, is a paramount
economic goal, whereas labour productivity the contribution that labour makes to
overall productivity is a central force in the labour market.
It s is said that South Africa still faces major challenges to improve its
competitiveness and ensure it translates into improved national productivity.
Although growth slowed in the financial sector last year, it and agriculture were the
only two sectors in which labour productivity and output remained strong. But both
sectors were unpredictable, and needed to improve on business efficiency to mitigate
costs. In agriculture, forestry and fishing there was an increase in real output growth
of 2.2% last year despite a 6.8% decrease in labour productivity growth. A few
sectors of the economy have performed well, with the mining sector yielding a
growth rate of 3.1% from minus 3.6%... but the positive growth rate was not
accompanied by an increase in labour input in the mining sector, which experienced a
decline of 3.1%, Productivity SA chief economist Keneuoe Mosoang said. He said the
data showed that of the 20 manufacturing sub sectors, seven demonstrated declining
productivity indicators (labour, capital and multifactor productivity). The sub sectors
under most duress were leather, food and rubber. (sanews, 2015)
Another area that needed urgent focus was the electricity, gas and water sector. It
experienced relatively lower growth in compensation of
Comparing Bartleby, The Scrivener And The Overcoat
In both Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener and Nikolai Gogol s The
Overcoat, the reader is given insight about the different workings society has on two
copyists. Both, Akaky and Bartleby make a living off copying papers, and can be
considered as the heros of their stories. Though, both of their mannerisms are out of
place and foolish in their given society; the authors display different settings,
character arcs, and motivations to showcase the slow burn psychological and physical
effects society has on the protagonist. Even though Bartleby s passive nature in a
capitalist dominant economy leads him to his death, Akaky stumbling upon
materialism in a classist Russia can be ascertained to have been deadlier than
passiveness. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly to Bartleby, in The Overcoat, Akaky Akakievich is a copyist who went
about his work mindlessly. Gogol depicts Akaky as an outlier among his peers, and
deemed to be the only clerk who served his job with love (313). The author portrays
Akaky as an aloof fellow, who has no idea about his surrounding for he is always
focused on his writings (Gogol 313). When the Russian s worst enemy, winter,
arrives; his overcoat is too old and broken down to protect him from the cold
weather. His current overcoat is ridiculed and mockingly called a peignoir by his
fellow clerks (Gogol 315). The arc shifts when his tailor, Petrovich, makes him a
new overcoat from cheap material that resembles the ones worn by the rich (Gogol
320). The coat heightens how Akaky viewed himself, and how his peers view him.
However, he is robbed of his coat on the way home from his Chief Assistant Clerk s
party (Gogol 323). In the latter part of his character arc, he valued the search of his
overcoat more than his livelihood. He decides to search for the overcoat with the
help of higher officials. After failed attempts with different people, he tries his luck
with the Very Important Person who put the nail to the coffin in Akaky s life but not

overcoats of others. He tormented other s until he steals the overcoat of the Very

The Fact Of The Resurrection Of Jesus
The change of Jesus disciples from a frightened, despondent, frustrated band to the
courageous preachers of Jesus as Messiah and the instrument of salvation was
triggered by his resurrection.
It was because God had risen up Jesus that the apostles could perform mighty works.
The Fact of the Resurrection The Gospels corroborate more than a few facts. First,
Jesus was dead. Second, the faiths of the disciples were also gone. A third fact is
that the disciples dissuasion and frustration was swiftly changed into poise and
conviction. A fourth fact is the empty tomb which is witnessed to by all the Gospels
and it is taken as fact in Paul s creedal declaration. A fifth historic fact is the
resurrection faith. Belief in the resurrection of ... Show more content on

The distinctive conflation of the roles of Servant and Messiah is thus stimulated.
Jesus as Messiah accomplishes the role of the suffering servant.
Jesus has suffered as Messiah, he is now dignified as Messiah, and he need yet come
as Messiah to bring the eschatological conclusion.
The Beginning of the Resurrection
Thus the resurrection of Jesus has certainly brought in a new age, the messianic age
while the Age to come remains in the upcoming. The resurrection of the dead actually
remains an event at the last day, but because of the resurrection of Christ this
eschatological event has already begun to unfold. The early church found itself living
in a pull stuck between the already realized and expectation. We are living in the age
of fulfillment but, the day of consummation stands yet in the future.
The Kingdom of God
The dominant subject of Jesus preaching was the Kingdom of God. While this
leitmotif is not characterized as one of the fundamental themes of the first apostolic
preaching, it is not altogether lacking.
While the early disciples refer to the Kingdom of God it is not clear whether the
position is to the eschatological order or not. Now and then the Kingdom of God has
become almost a substitute for the
Athens vs. Sparta Essay
Athens vs. Sparta
During the times of Ancient Greece, two major forms of government existed,
democracy and oligarchy. The city states of Athens and Sparta are the best
representatives of democracy and oligarchy, respectively. The focus of the times was
directed towards military capabilities, while the Athenians were more interested in
comfort and culture. It was the oligarchy in Sparta that put a war like attitude as its
first priority and best met the needs of Ancient Greece. These factors empowered
Sparta and led to the development of an authoritative and potent state. Other
contrasting issues included women s rights, social classes, and value of human life.

The government in Sparta followed a very different coarse than that of the
Athenians. It was controlled by an oligarchy in which the power was held by a
group of five men called ephors. Working below the ephors was the Council of
Elders and an Assembly. Male citizens over age sixty could serve on the Council
while anyone, male or female, over the age of twenty could be a member of the
Assembly. Though the citizens had little say in the decisions made by the
government, the system worked effectively. Over the years, the Spartan s brutal
reputation in war grew so great that other nations and city states were too frightened
to attack Sparta even though the Spartan army was no larger then eight thousand
men. The Spartan Constitution called for all men to begin their military education at
the age of seven, where they were trained to be tough and self sufficient. Every man
in the army fought with a great deal of passion for his country. Life in Sparta may
have been rough, but the rest of the Greeks envied the Spartans for their simplicity,
straight forwardness, and fanatical dedication. The beliefs of Sparta were oriented
around the state. The individual lived and died for the state. The combination of this
philosophy, the education of Spartan males, and the discipline of their army gave the
Spartans the stability needed to survive in Ancient Greece. The Athenian economy
depended on foreign trade and
Police And Other Agencies Within Law Enforcement

service daily. They enter a world of the unknown, while being required to serve and
protect the general public fairly, without bias toward race, religion, gender, or
political affiliation. They are confronted with serious crimes that they must deal
with at any given moment, on any given day. Law enforcement officers may receive
a call for service to handle a domestic dispute where weapons are involved, respond
to call where a pet was tossed in traffic from an overpass, and become involved in a

The process begins with a person reporting a crime, then travels through the system
starting with the police officers responding to the call for service. If an arrest is
made, the process continues through the system to the detention officer, the
prosecutor s officer, an attorney, the judge, the jury, the prison system, the parole
board, and finally the probation department. The term Discretion in its purest
definition can simply imply to have a choice in judgement. The use of discretion in
policing allows a considerable amount of freedom to be used within departmental
guidelines, referred to as controlled discretion (Gottfredson Gottfredson, 1988).
Police essentially have more discretionary power, regarding the liberty of
offenders, than any other officials in public office. Police officers make numerous
decisions while responding to a call for service, such as deciding if a crime
actually took place and if so, the degree of the offense, whether an arrest should be
made in accordance with the law, if a citation should be issued or the violator
released, or if an alleged offender requires medical attention. All of these actions
may take place prior to the offender being conveyed to the precinct for booking.
Some may pose the question of should the benefit of protection from police result in

Patience to understand that you do not know all the answers to life, particularly
your own life and the direction you want to go. There were a lot of times that I
was confused and worried about my future and the pressure of what I was going to
do after I graduate, and although there is still a chance of unwanted circumstances
that may arise, I believe that if I take it day by day and be patient then all of the
hard work will pay off, which makes me less confused and less worried. I have also
learned that in order to be well rounded and for lack of a better word, successful,
you need to have some type of self motivation because no one is going to push you
to get and go to that early morning class and no one is going to push you to go after
what you want. Nevertheless, it can also be beneficial to never be afraid to ask for
help or advice from someone you trust/ respect because that can allow you to have
more perspective and guidance towards your education. My undergraduate career has
been great and enlightening, and I am hopeful for the same outcome regarding my
graduate career.

Salad Bowl Analysis
The immigration is always an important issue throughout the history of the United
States. The government is struggling to assist the diversity of cultures and ethnic
groups because immigrants continuously bring their traditions into America. This
raised the metaphor melting pot and salad bowl, which described the term of
assimilation and integration of the many different cultures in America. Today, the
United Statessociety no longer matches the melting potmetaphor; it shifts to salad
bowl metaphor. This concept is different from the notion of the melting pot. The
salad bowl means that the immigrants keep their unique customs and cultures, the
integration degree of immigrant merge into the American community, and the youth
immigrant generations recognize their heritage of origin culturein the mainstream of
American culture. For these reasons, the salad bowl metaphor would be more
appropriate to America society these days.
The term melting pot was generally used in the United States after it was used as a
metaphor for describing an association of cultures and ethnicities in 1908. Many
different types of people blend together as one in a society. America is always a
nation of immigration, based on the history element of the country. The generations
of immigrants have mixed together. They have refused their origin traditions and
cultures to become totally assimilated into American society. That was why
American citizen considered United States was a melting pot. In contrast to the
soup bowl theory, there is the emergence of salad bowl metaphor. It asserts that the
integration of the many different cultures of the United States people combines like
a big salad bowl. It means many cultures, languages, and ethic co exist in peaceful,
like all kinds of ingredients in a bowl of salad. It mixes together, but it does not
dissolve into one.
Although the melting pot theory seems to be outdated in American society today,
however, there are still a lot of conservatives to favor their views on this metaphor.
They think the fusing of different ethnic group is essential for building a cohesive
society. Immigrants should give up their origin tradition national identity, and they try
to entirely assimilate

Liposuction is a procedure designed to reshape and slim various areas of the body.
During a this procedure, excess fat deposits are removed; thus, improving the
proportion and contours of the patient s body. This procedure is not intended to
replace diet and exercise or to treat obesity. Instead, liposuction is meant to address
areas that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Areas of the Body That Miami s Premiere Plastic Surgeon Can address with
Liposuction
Dr. Sam Gershenbaum is a premier plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Miami who
frequently performs liposuction/liposculpture surgery to assist individuals in
eliminating fat deposits from areas of the body that remain despite a healthy diet and
regular exercise.
Dr. Gershenbaum can use liposuction to address localized fat deposits in the:
Abdomen and chest area Thighs and inner knees Waist and hips Back Buttocks
Upper arms Ankles Calves Cheeks and chin Neck
Dr. Gershenbaum can perform liposuction for his patients in Miami alone or in
conjunction with other procedures. Many of Dr. Gershenbaum s patients choose to
combine liposuction with a breast reduction, a rhytidectomy (facelift) and an
abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).
What Liposuction Cannot Do
Liposuction cannot effectively treat the dimpled skin (cellulite)that is commonly
seen on the hips, thighs and buttocks. In addition, this procedure does not address
loose, sagging skin.

The Netherlands Revolt
My paper will discuss several factors that led to the success of the Revolt of the
Netherlands which include; hatred of the Spain monarchy in the Netherlands,
failure of King Philip II as a ruler, the union of the provinces within the
Netherlands, the support of foreign allies and Spanish enemies, and Spain s lack of
funds. This revolt was composed of people from all social classes and all of these
men were all driven and motivated by a deep hate of Spain. After Charles V, Philip II
became the king of the Spanish Netherlands. Unlike Charles V, Philip II was not part
of the Habsburg Empire, known as the Netherlands. The people of Netherland
considered him a foreigner and he was often portrayed as being extremely arrogant

Philip II believed in complete sovereign power on his quest to create centralization
in the region, so he chose to exclude the involvement of the high nobility from any
polices that the king made or would make in the future (Zagorin, Pg.91). They

With his insistence on denying the Dutch their religious freedom and then denying
the nobility the right to have a say in policy matters, he set in motion the start of the
revolution. The Netherlands was a region that had various different provinces; they
were not a united front, politically speaking. But one thing that they did have in
common was that they looked upon the noblemen for guidance. The noblemen were
seen as leaders, sometimes even acting as provincial governors, and they usually
provided politically guidance to those in need, apart from dealing with any issues that

Target Corporation s Dealing with a Data Security Breach
In 2013, Target Corp., the company that prides itself on offering quality, upscale,
and trendy merchandise at lower costs, had anticipated a historic year. However,
after purchasing Canadian retailer Zellers 273 locations and finally executing plans
to expand outside the United States, both company and stockholder optimism

consumers turned out devastatingly bad numbers in the fourth quarter some
experts even calling it the second largest retail cyber attack in history. As the
holiday season approached, analysts had expected Target s earnings to be flat
compared to the previous year, 2012, when the Minneapolis based retailer posted
fourth quarter earnings at $921 million. However, after news of the breach and its
ongoing investigation became public, many consumers, uncertain about the extent
of the breach, chose to shop with Target s competitors during the holidays. Target s
best public relations efforts could not completely ease consumer concerns. Sales in
the last week of the holiday season fell by nearly 4 percent, compared to other
retailers, which devastated the traditionally strong retailer as holiday sales account
for 20 to 40 percent of annual sales. Target ended the quarter with $520 million in
earnings, down almost 45 percent from 2012. Breaking News Popular tech security

Insecurity In Elderly
Research on elderly nutritional outcomes is often found in geriatric medicine and
nutrition literature. This set of work is focused on the physiological relationship
between deficiencies in specific nutrients for the elderly. Often this work examines
the role of food insecurity in nutrient intake (Catlett, 2009; Lee et al, 2010; Lee

The Differences Of The Church Of Satan And The Church
Of...
The Church of Satan and the Church of Scientology are both new religious
movements that share a fascination with the individual self in which they place a lot
of attention on this concept. I believe the reasoning for such a focus on the self is
because conventional religion never emphasizes it. With that being said, both L. Ron
Hubbardand Anton Lavey went on to capitalize on this. They are two charismatic
leaders, wanted followers and therefore they tapped into an area that was never
discovered before. New religious movements tend to focus more on areas where
their previous religion never touch on, or restricted people from thinking that.
With that being said, these two leaders are suppose to add to people s lives and
that they did, although one seemed to care more about people s money. That
would be L.Ron Hubbard a former Navy officer who was twice relieved of duty for
erratic behavior. This man is just difficult to get an understanding of his personality.
While learning about L. Ron Hubbard it was clear that this man is just looking for
money. With program after program and books being pushed on to members to buy,
it looked like he started this religion because he needed a backup plan. It does not
appear that the Church of Scientologyreally cares about its member s individual self .
And it is the opposite of that with the Church of Satan with members are not given
the runaround, they are told from the beginning to explore self for themselves only.

Carbon-14 Dating
The key principle behind radiocarbon 14 dating is plants and animals exchange
carbon with their surroundings and thus contain the same ratio of carbon 12 to
carbon 14 once an organism dies it no longer exchanges carbon with its
surroundings. The carbon 14 will slowly decay at a known rate decreasing the ratio
of carbon12 to carbon 14. Since the decay rate and original ratio of carbon 12 to
carbon 14 is known we can determine how old a sample is by the amount of carbon
14 remaining. There are two ways to measure the carbon 12 to carbon 14 ratio. The
first being beta counting. Beta counting was the first method used to measure carbon
14 levels in a sample. Two different type of beta counting were primarily used. The

Humanism In Renaissance
The late Middle Ages were a time of creative fragmentation and new synthesis. The
Renaissance, which take place between 1300 and 1700, was a time for education and
experimentation. The fifteenth century saw an unprecedented demand for quality
education and art and scholarly renaissance. Italian and northern humanists recovered
classical knowledge and languages that set education reforms and cultural changes in
motion that spread throughout Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Humanism is defined differently depending on who you are asking. Some see the
Renaissance as an educational movement driven by a philosophy that stressed the
dignity of humankind, individualism, and secular values. Others say, humanists were
actually the champions of Catholic Christianity, opposing the pagan teaching of
ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle and the Scholasticism that poured out of his
writings. But the most accurate definition is, humanism was a neutral form of
empirical minded historical scholarship adopted to promote political liberty and a
sense of civic responsibility. In simpler terms, it is the belief that all people have the
ability to contribute to the betterment of society.
Humanism influenced literature and poetry to flourish! The first humanists were
orators and poets who wrote original literature in both classical and vernacular
languages. Humanism also created jobs! Humanists were given the opportunity to
teach rhetoric in the universities, and when they were
Cons Of De-Extinction
Extinction is defined as: the state or situation that results when something, such as
plant or animal species, have died out completely (Merriam Webster). The World
Wildlife Foundation, otherwise known as the WWF, says that experts estimate that
the loss of animals is estimated to be between 1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the
natural extinctionrate. Experts calculate that between 0.01 and 0.1% of all species
become extinct each year. Although this may seem like quite low numbers it reality
is it quite large. If the lower estimate is correct, then out of the estimated two million
species on the planet, then an estimated two hundred and two thousand species will
become extinct each year. If the larger estimate is correct and that there are an
estimated 100 million different species on the planet, then that results in ten thousand
and one hundred thousand species who become extinct each year (WWF). Experts
say that of all the species that existed on this planet, 99.9% are now extinct (PBS).
However, what if they could be brought back? Years ago, species such as the Pyrenean

The Rise Of A Female Labor Force
Blame according to Dr. Brene Brown s video is simply the discharging of
discomfort and pain. It is a way that we discharge anger rather than being
accountable. Wow, U.S. history is full of blaming and it affects student s ability to
learn about U.S. history. The irony is that the past is still repeating itself with the
current crop of politicians. Republicans blame Democrats and vice versa and
nothing gets accomplished in Washington D.C. for the American people. The market
revolution bears responsibility (blame) for the beginning of the birth of a female
labor force. According to writer, Gretchen Swen, the early 19th century was fueled
by the explosion of technological innovation, backed up by a lot of hard work. The
cotton gin was quickly increasing cotton production in the South; steamboats were
churning up the Mississippi river; power looms were transforming the New England
textile industry. Transportation was greatly improved, and people relocated in record
numbers. The social and technological changes created what s been called a market
revolution. The market revolution is defined as growth of commerce, of buying and
selling on commercial markets. The cotton boom fueled the first large scale
manufacturing in the United States. Textile mills began to spring up across the
northeast, and towns grew up around them to house their workers. This innovation
not only changed the textile industry, it transformed the social landscape as well. Tom

The Characteristics Of Being A Jerk
Jerks; regardless of upbringings, current conditions, or social status, when one is
confronted with the idea of a jerk, certain people or behaviors may swiftly come to
mind. When the concept of a person like Dale, who disregards the needs of others
and does not practice courtesy, arises, it is quite evident that he is a jerk, and
therefore, a considerably unjust being. Based on both the historical analyses of
Polemarchus or Thrasymachus and the current standards elaborated upon by
scholars such as Eric Schwitzgabel, Dale could undeniably be deemed a jerk. Jerks
see the world through goggles that dim others humanity. , states Eric Schwitzgabel,
in his article How to Tell If You re a Jerk (Schwitzgabel). Schwitzgabel states that
with respect to scientifically recognized categories of personality, the jerk is very
similar to that of the dark triad; the dark triad consists of narcissism,
Machiavellianism, and psychopathic tendencies (Schwitzgabel). Regardless, there
are still many traits of being a jerk that cannot be seen in the dark triad
(Schwitzgabel). Narcissism may regard themselves as more important than the
people that surround them, but could also, unlike a jerk, strive to be the center of
attention; Machiavellians believe that other people are tools to be exploited for
personal gain, but in doing so are conscious to their cynicism rather than ignorant;
psychopaths are often selfish and callous, with a tendency to engage in impulsive risk
taking, but jerks
Hurricane Katrina Narrative Essay
Starting Over Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Gulf Coast, destroying lives,
leveling homes and leaving thousands of survivors with the same story: We lost
everything. Experiencing the loss and devastation of a natural disaster taught me the
appreciation of life and how to start over and move forward without dwelling on the
past.
During Hurricane Katrina, my family and I had to evacuate from Louisiana and leave
our home and belongings behind. As a child, I did not understand the actuality of
the situation before us. I can clearly remember the day that they called a mandatory
evacuation on Port Sulphur and my mom frantically packed as many photographs
and important memorabilia as she could. My grandparents and other family
members also had to evacuate from New Orleans. Seeing my dad board up all of
the windows to try and keep the water from getting inside our house during the
storm was the most frightening part for me. Our plan was to go and stay with my
Uncle and Aunt in Tyler, Texas and eventually return home. What unfolded those
next few weeks can only be described as unimaginable. If someone told me twelve
years ago today that I would be living here in Lindale, Texas I would have seen that
as impossible. Learning to cope with something as ... Show more content on

Time heals all wounds, can be directly applied to my life. I truly believe that going
through that has shaped me to be the person I am today. Staying positive and taking
everything one day at a time saved my family. Although I still internally struggle
from time to time with fear of losing things important to me, I have learned to deal

Addiction Of Social Media Addiction
Introduction: Addiction is defined as a compulsive need for a particular
obsession. When social media was created, the thought of it turning into an
addiction was not a concern. In 2017, 81 percent of Americans have user profiles
on social media and are expected to grow to 2.5 billion by 2018 (Statista).
Although businesses are advancing through the rapid growth of social media,
isolation is also advancing because many now rely on social media as a way to
interact with society. Due to the increase of online users, social media is now
linked to the increase in isolation. While businesses, schools, and technology are
advancing an argument can be made that social media is reducing social
interaction. On the flip side an argument can be made that social media increases
people s thought processes and networking skills in communities that do not only
rely on proximity. Much research has been done on the increase and decrease of a
person s feelings of isolation through their use of social media. Side One why
social media causes isolation: Social media has become a barrier for many
between real and virtual life in which users find comfort by hiding their true selves
behind their media created profile. Social interactions are now seen as a
frightening experience that many young adults find difficulty facing. Elizabeth
Miller states that It s possible that young adults who initially felt socially isolated
turned to social media (Miller) . Online social interaction is deemed easier because
there is a physical barrier involved. By hiding behind a profile, being yourself is an
option, you can create your own story and not worry about immediate responses.
For example, teenagers discovered an outlet on the social media platform of
Instagram by creating an alternative account known as a finsta . Finstas, short for
fake Instagram, are private accounts intended to share personal pictures and ideas
only to closest friends. These accounts are shared inside a smaller social circle and
the user can use a false name. They can post, their good, their bad and their ugly
truths and feel safe that these are only shared within a select and trusted group.
Research has shown that users have trouble disconnecting from such accounts,
The Ineffectiveness of Education Reform Essay
On January 8, 2002 President Bush signed into law the Leave No Child Behind Act,
which significantly changes how public schools receive federal funding. This
bipartisan supported attempt at reform, the first of this magnitude since the
Elementary Secondary Education Act of 1965, shows a dedicated concern to
improving education. However, it is not plausible a punishment/rewards system will
positively improve schoolson a large scale as a nationwide policy should.
President Bush s apparent prioritizing of schools is the positive stance for the
federal government to take on this issue, especially at a time when domestic
concerns could be overshadowed by global tensions and war activities. At first
glance, one may be reassured by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This education policy was conceived at a time of prosperity, so whether the
government continues to increase spending remains to be seen.
The new legislation focuses on a pertinent aspect of education, raising standards for
students, but determining funding by test scores does not guarantee widespread
results. This new policy relies on the threat tactic of schools improving for fear of
federal funding being reduced; if a school does not meet the new standards, how will
reducing funding improve it? The government will continue funding school districts
which are already capable of invoking sufficient test scores, while cutting back
funding to the districts which can not, offering the alternative of government funded
transportation to another school. This is the legislation s flaw: it should be teachers
taking proficiency tests periodically to display their qualifications in order to remain
teaching. Most teachers are dedicated to their own education, and so would not likely
oppose such a policy. Instead we have the federal government holding funding with
the justification of accountability over school districts, demanding improved test
scores.
This criticism is rooted in both skepticism towards the policy s effectiveness, and
confidence in an alternative potential solution: the government could radically change
the profession of teaching/education by establishing a national base salary which
would consequently mean an overall raise in
Essay Overview of Firefighting as a Career
My chosen career field is in public service. Precisely a career in firefighting. I believe
firefighting is a great career choice as I enjoy the work that it involves, and there is a
demand that will never stop for firefighters, as fire will always be around forever.
The fire department offers a large variety of services to the public. Some of the
major tasks that are performed in the fire service range from providing medical care
as an Emergency Medical Technician, Entering a burning structure to search for any
trapped occupants, suppressing the fire from the exterior or interior, removing a
victim that is trapped inside a vehicle involved in an accident, cutting up a tree that
fell over the roadway, to helping the elderly up into bed... Show more content on

The need for help is always there at all hours of the day and night. A firefighter has
to be able to shift from dead sleep and when the call comes through, he must be up,
mentally prepared and completely focused on the job and performing it as
expected, no matter what time of day, or how little sleep he has gotten. The
average working conditions involves responding to residential areas to provide
medical services, as this is the majority of the tasks of firefighters. According to the
NFPA, 2 out of 3 calls a firefighter responds to are medical assist related calls.
Firefighting has a large number of dangerous aspects in the job, as that is what the
firefighters know and acknowledge when entering this field. There may times that
become unpleasant, but when the job is done, you feel an overwhelming sense of
satisfaction knowing that it was you that made the difference in a humans life.
According to the Department of Labor, Bureau of Statistics, there were 307,000 job
openings nationally in 2012. There is an expected 7% rise in opportunities between
2012 and 2020. Competition for firefighter positions is intense. The Bureau of Labor
Statistics estimates 35,000 firefighters will be needed between now and 2016, but
the firefighter job is popular and sought after, so there will be plenty of applicants
for every open position. (U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics http:/

Why U Shouldnt Use Drugs
Why you shouldn t use drugs
Drug use is a growing rapidly in the United States, especially among teens and
even younger kids. whether its marijuana, cocaine, or anything else considered illegal.
The misuse of drugs can lead to negative consequences in ones life. There are many in
depth reasons for not leading a path of illegal drug abuse.
The first major reason being your physical health. Inhaling drugs like marijuana
clearly is dangerous. If done enough, it can have the same effects that smoking
cigarettes
can cause. Marijuana has five times as much tar as the amount of tobacco. Injecting
drugs
with needles, such as heroine, can be fatal in a shorter time. Consider that every time

However, even friends will leave
the addict to his own choices, and may decide to stop socializing with them. The
addict,
already losing his or her family, will have lost all social friends too.
The next reason is depression. Depression can turn anyone towards drugs. Many
drugs such as pills, marijuana and cocaine offer an escape from the sadness. If the
addicted continues to use drugs, loses friends and family, he will inevitably have
troubles
with depression, which will create for a sad lonely miserable life for the user.
Also one other main reason can be Mental Illness. Even worse than depression,
which people experience every day, is the fact that the chances for mental illness are
higher for the addicted person than for the non addict. It could also be said the
addicts are
already acting in an insane way by choosing something like cocaine, heroine, or meth
over family and friends.
Another major reason is Money, and getting money for the drug. Where will
addicts go once they lose their job? Often, money is the major concern of addicts.
Some
will take to selling drugs just to get by. Either way, the user will spend most of the
money
they earn on more drugs. They are often willing to steal and borrow to continue using
drugs. This is a result in them having no money left and being willing to do many
things
to get their next drug.
One other good reason is school, and
General Dwight Eisenhower as a Critical Thinker
Strategic decisions made by General Dwight Eisenhower during WWII were
significant and give excellent examples of four components of Steve Gerras Critical
Thinking model. Generals during World War II faced daily innumerable difficult
and grave decisions. Critical decisions made during WWII did not have the depth
and speed of today s modern communications infrastructure. Eisenhower quoted,
Making decisions is of the essence in leadership. 1 During World War II, while in
command of the Mediterranean theater, Eisenhower made the strategic decision of
making the commitment to radiate confidence no matter how dire the circumstances
or how pessimistic he might actually feel. He wrote, My mannerisms and speech in
public would always reflect the cheerful certainty of victory that any pessimism and
discouragement that I might ever feel would be reserved for my pillow. 2 Critical
thinking according to Professor Steve Gerras is deliberate. Gerras Critical Thinking
Model components are as follows: clarify the concern, point of view, assumptions,
inferences, evaluation of information, and implications. The model is not meant to be
sequential or linear, however always starts with clarify the concern . Evaluation of
Eisenhower s decision to radiate confidence no matter how dire the circumstances in
context to Gerras Critical thinking model spotlights clarify the concern and point of
view . Application of these two components to his strategic decision demonstrates
The World s Economy And Lowering Its Credit Rating
Winston Churchill called for the concept of a kind of United States of Europe , and
with an ever closer European Union both with tenacious economic and political ties,
his call is materialising by the day. Though favoured by Churchill, the high European
migrant levels and the erosion of Britain s sovereignty has led to the questioning of
the so called European super state . Britain voting out on the 23rd. June would result
in Brexit and subsequently an end to free trade with its European counterparts. This
would release her from the shackles of tariffs and quotas that are present for non EU
trade, leading to potential trade deals with Eastern countries such as China. Further to

He discusses how in the event of Brexit , Britain would be at the back of the queue
in securing a NAFTA type deal. A benefit of Brexit discussed by EU out supporters
is the ability of Britain to forge trade deals with other non EU nations such as the
US. However this prospect of a Britain America trade deal has been dampened by
Obama s comments, suggesting that America is busy negotiating deals with EU and
that Britain will have to wait possibly another ten years. Obama further comments on
how EU magnifies Britain s global influence and that Brexit would hamper this.
Penny Mordaunt from The Telegraph has dismissed his comments as woeful
ignorance saying his belief ...that
.. divisions in Europe would weaken NATO is not true arguing those divisions are
caused by the EU itself. Mordaunt continues to argue how Obama confuses
collective action through NATO with the integration at all costs ideology that
motivates the EU too explaining that the EU has nothing to do with Britain s
international influence, NATO does. Obama s argument is weak whilst discussing
trade deals as he has reached his final year of his presidency and cannot dictate on
future deals especially with republican candidates Cruz stating an American British
deal would occur immediately not back of the queue as Obama has suggested.
However his stance on weakening of Britain s influence is a possibility as

Edward De Vere
The authorship of all of Shakespeare s genius literature is the biggest detective
story. It is one that has brought curiosity to the world for centuries and is still very
alive today. Has a man who had no evidence that he had ever gone to school,
composed brilliant pieces of literature known to all of mankind? It is highly
unlikely. There must have been someone else. Scholars are now speculating as to
whether Edward De Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, is the true author of all of Shakespeare
s publications,
Edward De Vere was born in the Hedingham Castle. One of his tutors at the time
was Laurence Nowell, who owned a copy of Beowulf. In 1558, Edward De Vere
attended Cambridge and Oxford University in 1566. Another tutor of his was Queen

However, William Shakespeare never claimed the publications. Neither did Edward
De Vere, but that was because he would be looked down upon.
I have read many of the reasons as to why the 17th Earl of Oxford depicts a better
candidate for these writings. The same has been done for William Shakespeare. It
isn t likely that a person who is uneducated and without experience, to write literature
with as much intellect as they all contain. Edward De Vere was a graduate at the age
of 14. A man with that much genius must have published something in his life. It
would ve been a shame if he hadn t.
I think it is as clear as day for people to see why Edward De Vere was the author of
all Shakespeare s literature. He was experienced and intelligent. He traveled to
places in which Shakespeare s plays take place and he had an abundance amount of
knowledge about the lives of those living with a high status. Experts state that many
of the publications can be matched to a certain event in Edward De Vere s

People Hating People throughout History
People who put principles before people are people who hate people. They don t
much care about how well it works, just about how right it is ... they may even like it
better if it inflicts enough pain (John Barnes). People do not think too much of how
their actions affect other human beings. They think making others feel less than who
they are is completely ok, even with the level of National Security. It is not ok
whatsoever. Instead of dehumanizing people and making them feel worthless and like
animals National Security, and other humans, should treat people equally and not like
objects, make them feel comfortable and not take away their rights because we are all
humanand all equal. Although people feel as though they can just take away a
person s rights and identity because they feel they are more superior and important,
they have no right to. The three veterans, with needles in their hands, engraved a
number on our left arms. I became A7713. After that I had no other name. (Wiesel
39). Wiesel is talking about how his identity was just taken away from him. And
how it was so easy to just become a number, and nothing but a number, so quickly.
He had no other identity other than the one given to him when his original name was
taken away from him. As a result, Mr. Wiesel and many other humans have and are
being stripped of their identity and becoming, or have become, nothing but a number
and an object. There are eighty of you in this wagon, added the German officer.

Essays On Postmodernism.pdf

  • 1. Essays On Postmodernism Writing an essay on the subject of postmodernism can be a challenging endeavor. Postmodernism is a complex and multifaceted intellectual movement that spans various disciplines, including literature, art, philosophy, and cultural studies. Its elusive nature, characterized by a rejection of grand narratives and a celebration of pluralism and ambiguity, makes it difficult to pin down and define. One of the challenges in crafting an essay on postmodernism lies in navigating through the diverse perspectives and theories associated with this concept. Postmodernism encompasses a range of ideas, from deconstructionist literary theories to poststructuralist philosophical frameworks, each with its own nuances and implications. Striking a balance between providing a comprehensive overview and delving into specific aspects can be a delicate task. Moreover, the evolving nature of postmodern thought poses another hurdle. As an intellectual movement, postmodernism continues to shape and reshape itself, responding to societal changes and ongoing debates. This dynamism necessitates a thorough understanding of both historical perspectives and contemporary developments, adding a layer of complexity to the essay-writing process. The challenge extends to the critical analysis required for an essay on postmodernism. Engaging with postmodern texts and artworks demands a keen awareness of the interplay between form and content, as well as an ability to decipher the underlying themes and critiques. Navigating the labyrinth of postmodern discourse requires a nuanced approach that goes beyond merely summarizing ideas to critically evaluating and synthesizing them. In conclusion, composing an essay on postmodernism involves grappling with the intricate nature of the subject, navigating diverse perspectives, keeping abreast of ongoing developments, and conducting critical analyses. It requires a deep understanding of the intellectual landscape and a willingness to engage with the complexities inherent in postmodern thought. For those seeking assistance with such essays or similar academic tasks, various resources, including writing services like HelpWriting.net, offer support in crafting well-researched and insightful pieces on a range of topics. As a last step, Volvo established subsidiaries in Finland and Norway. In the 1950s, further expansion followed. Subsidiaries were established in most European countries, USA and Canada. In the year 1973 Volvo opened up a car manufacturing plant in the USA, followed by a second one in Belgium in 1975. Nowadays Volvo has over 100 export markets, manufacturing subsidiaries in five countries and sales subsidiaries in twelve. The Uppsala Model Limitations The Uppsala model is the historically oldest entry mode theory discussed in our paper. One could argue that it is particularly the date of origin that reveals its limitations. The development of the global infrastructure has not reduced the physical distance; however, it has certainly helped to overcome it. Furthermore, technological milestones like the Internet have simplified communication significantly. As a result of these advancements, the cultural exchange around the world has increased leading to some extent of cultural convergence. Due to these dramatic changes in logistical capacities, communication technology as well as ongoing cultural convergence, much of

  • 5. Nuclear Fission Lab Report NUCLEAR FISSION INTRODUCTION Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassman, two German chemists discovered the process of nuclear fission on 17th December, 1938. However, it was theoretically explained later by two Austrian British physicists, Lise Meitner and Otto Robert Frisch in the 1939. Nuclear fission is the process by which a heavy nucleus disintegrates or decays into two lighter nuclei of slightly similar weights when they absorb slow moving neutrons known as thermal neutrons. The nuclei undergoing disintegration is known as the parent nuclei and the nuclei s formed after the decay are known as the daughter nuclei. Along with the daughter nuclei very large amount of energy is also released and some gamma photons are also released. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this explanation they assumed the nucleus of a heavy atom to be comparable to a spherical drop of liquid. The spherical shape of the liquid drop is maintained due to surface tension of water and also due columbic force of attraction. When a neutron is absorbed by the nuclei its energy is increased due to increased oscillations, due to which there is change in the spherical shape of the water droplet to ellipsoidal. if further there is increase in the oscillating energy, the columbic force of attraction between the nucleons decreases so the shape becomes more irregular and becomes dumb bell. The surface tension of water tends to make the water droplet to obtain its original shape which, finally, takes place by breaking the water droplet into two smaller water droplets of almost comparable sizes. Similarly, the nuclear fission process can be explained. The following diagram below shows various steps in the liquid drop

  • 8. I Am After The Nuclear Incident Losing a family and everything a person every had, is a horrible experience. Losing hope and not having a reason to live daunts you. According to Sakue, there are two kinds of courage the courage to live and the courage to die. First, the courage to live. I believe that the courage to live after the nuclear incident is extremely hard. Merely a strong person is capable of facing the fear. Courage to live is not giving up on life, but showing you still have a hope of finding something else to live upon. You stay strong and show others, the people who let you down, of how strong you are. People who the courage to live are not running away from their problem, but rather fighting through it. Second, the courage to die, people who have the courage to die are strong enough to let go and never face it every again. They chose to die because they don t have anything to look after for. It is not that they choose to hide away but they chose not to face the terrible obstacles in life. For instance, when someone is on life support and their family has chosen to get them off the life support; it is not because the person is weak, but that they have no other option. That person is bearing through a lot of pain and letting go of them would be the only best option there is to lessen the pain. Katsuji, Yoshida, the man who was the victim of Hiroshima and Nagasaki s nuclear weapon attack was going through a difficult phase. Even when it was not his fault, he was being treated differently; he
  • 9. African American Slave Revolts In this paper, I am discussing Slave Revolts. Slave Revolts are best defined as the rising of slavery in a specific state or country. Enslaved Africans resisted, or rebelled, against their position as slaves in many ways. Each expression of resistance by enslaved individuals or groups counted as acts of rebellion against the system of slavery. The slaves could avoid work, by working as slowly as they dared, or by pretending to be sick. There are many famous examples of slave revolts, such as The Haitian Revolt, The Bussa Revolt, and the Nat Turner Revolt. From 1791 to 1804, the Haitian Revolt occurred. This revolution, regarded as the largest and successful revolt in history (History.com), it took place in the French colony of Saint Domingue, that escalated with the elimination of slavery in Haiti. The revolt would prove that Haiti could come from the under rule of white Europeans. This resulted in the birth of Haiti and the birth of the independent government.... Nathanial Nat Turner (1800 1831) was a black American slave who led the only effective, sustained slave rebellion August 1831. Slaves were massacred 55 to 65 white militias. The fouled rebellion would lead to Nat Turner being tried and hung for revolting against the whites. The rebellion began when Turner s small band of hatchet wielding slaves killed his master, Joseph Travis, along with his wife, nine year old son and a hired hand as they slept in their beds. Realizing they had left one family member alive in the house, two slaves returned to the Travis home and killed a little infant sleeping in a cradle before dumping its body in the fireplace. As they swept through the countryside, Turner s men freed slaves as they continued the killings. Upwards of 75 of them joined the uprising over the ensuing two days and killed dozens of

In The Odyssey by Homer, in the chapter The Lotus Eaters Odysseus arrives on an island were three of his crew eat the Lotus and fight to stay on the island. In The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan when Percy goes to the Lotus Casino his friends are stuck and he must force them out. Odysseus and Percy are similar because they are heroes who encounter the Lotus Eaters while on a quest, but they are different because Odysseus is on an island, while Percy is in a casino. On the other hand, Percy was affected by the Lotus and had to shake out of it before helping his friends. Percy was affected but slowly noticed I tried to remember why we were here. We were going to Los Angeles. We were supposed to find the entrance to the Underworld. My mother . . . For a scary second, I had trouble remembering her name. Sally. Sally Jackson. I had to find her, I had to stop Hades from causing World War III. This shows Percy awakening from the Lotus, and remembering his mission, unlike Odysseus who was never affected or blinded. While he was fooled and blinded, Percy still woke from the affects and helped his friends wake up and escape. Percy and Odysseus were different from one another in many ways. Odysseus and Percy both similarly encountered the Lotus Eaters while on a quest and must rescue their friends, but they meet them in different places and save their friends differently. Both heroes had saved their friends from the Lotus, but their saving methods differed from the others. Many heroes have similarities but they are also different from one another even in their similarities.

In that period, most of the students were forced to become sent down youth and lost chances to be educated at school. However, Chinese people explored some important spirits in this period. Both Wang and Zheng experienced the transition period in China and they left valuable gifts to the next generation in China. • 13. Taming Of The Shrew Research Paper In the play taming of the shrew and 10 things I hate about you, I believe relationships are shown differently because in 10 things I hate about you relationships are shown through just dating out of fun/ love instead of in taming of the shrew where it was about money and kind of an agreement with the father and no choice for the women. This is seen in the relationships of Katherine and Petruchio. The difference between the relationship of Katherine and Petruchio in the play Taming Of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You . The Productivity Of South Africa Essay Productivity, defined as making the most of limited resources, is a paramount economic goal, whereas labour productivity the contribution that labour makes to overall productivity is a central force in the labour market. It s is said that South Africa still faces major challenges to improve its competitiveness and ensure it translates into improved national productivity. Although growth slowed in the financial sector last year, it and agriculture were the only two sectors in which labour productivity and output remained strong. But both sectors were unpredictable, and needed to improve on business efficiency to mitigate costs. In agriculture, forestry and fishing there was an increase in real output growth of 2.2% last year despite a 6.8% decrease in labour productivity growth. A few sectors of the economy have performed well, with the mining sector yielding a growth rate of 3.1% from minus 3.6%... but the positive growth rate was not accompanied by an increase in labour input in the mining sector, which experienced a decline of 3.1%, Productivity SA chief economist Keneuoe Mosoang said. He said the data showed that of the 20 manufacturing sub sectors, seven demonstrated declining productivity indicators (labour, capital and multifactor productivity). The sub sectors under most duress were leather, food and rubber. (sanews, 2015) Another area that needed urgent focus was the electricity, gas and water sector. Comparing Bartleby, The Scrivener And The Overcoat In both Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener and Nikolai Gogol s The Overcoat, the reader is given insight about the different workings society has on two copyists. Both, Akaky and Bartleby make a living off copying papers, and can be considered as the heros of their stories. Though, both of their mannerisms are out of place and foolish in their given society; the authors display different settings, character arcs, and motivations to showcase the slow burn psychological and physical effects society has on the protagonist. Gogol depicts Akaky as an outlier among his peers, and deemed to be the only clerk who served his job with love (313). The author portrays Akaky as an aloof fellow, who has no idea about his surrounding for he is always focused on his writings (Gogol 313). When the Russian s worst enemy, winter, arrives; his overcoat is too old and broken down to protect him from the cold weather. His current overcoat is ridiculed and mockingly called a peignoir by his fellow clerks (Gogol 315). The arc shifts when his tailor, Petrovich, makes him a new overcoat from cheap material that resembles the ones worn by the rich (Gogol 320). The coat heightens how Akaky viewed himself, and how his peers view him. However, he is robbed of his coat on the way home from his Chief Assistant Clerk s party (Gogol 323). In the latter part of his character arc, he valued the search of his overcoat more than his livelihood. He decides to search for the overcoat with the help of higher officials. After failed attempts with different people, he tries his luck with the Very Important Person who put the nail to the coffin in Akaky s life but not his arc(Gogol 324) . The Fact Of The Resurrection Of Jesus The change of Jesus disciples from a frightened, despondent, frustrated band to the courageous preachers of Jesus as Messiah and the instrument of salvation was triggered by his resurrection. It was because God had risen up Jesus that the apostles could perform mighty works. The Fact of the Resurrection The Gospels corroborate more than a few facts. First, Jesus was dead. Second, the faiths of the disciples were also gone. A third fact is that the disciples dissuasion and frustration was swiftly changed into poise and conviction. A fourth fact is the empty tomb which is witnessed to by all the Gospels and it is taken as fact in Paul s creedal declaration. A fifth historic fact is the resurrection faith. The city states of Athens and Sparta are the best representatives of democracy and oligarchy, respectively. The focus of the times was directed towards military capabilities, while the Athenians were more interested in comfort and culture. It was the oligarchy in Sparta that put a war like attitude as its first priority and best met the needs of Ancient Greece. It was controlled by an oligarchy in which the power was held by a group of five men called ephors. Working below the ephors was the Council of Elders and an Assembly. Male citizens over age sixty could serve on the Council while anyone, male or female, over the age of twenty could be a member of the Assembly. Though the citizens had little say in the decisions made by the government, the system worked effectively. Over the years, the Spartan s brutal reputation in war grew so great that other nations and city states were too frightened to attack Sparta even though the Spartan army was no larger then eight thousand men. The Spartan Constitution called for all men to begin their military education at the age of seven, where they were trained to be tough and self sufficient. Every man in the army fought with a great deal of passion for his country. Life in Sparta may have been rough, but the rest of the Greeks envied the Spartans for their simplicity, straight forwardness, and fanatical dedication. The beliefs of Sparta were oriented around the state. The individual lived and died for the state. The combination of this philosophy, the education of Spartan males, and the discipline of their army gave the Spartans the stability needed to survive in Ancient Greece. • 21. Salad Bowl Analysis The immigration is always an important issue throughout the history of the United States. The government is struggling to assist the diversity of cultures and ethnic groups because immigrants continuously bring their traditions into America. This raised the metaphor melting pot and salad bowl, which described the term of assimilation and integration of the many different cultures in America. Today, the United Statessociety no longer matches the melting potmetaphor; it shifts to salad bowl metaphor. This concept is different from the notion of the melting pot. The salad bowl means that the immigrants keep their unique customs and cultures, the integration degree of immigrant merge into the American community, and the youth immigrant generations recognize their heritage of origin culturein the mainstream of American culture. For these reasons, the salad bowl metaphor would be more appropriate to America society these days. The term melting pot was generally used in the United States after it was used as a metaphor for describing an association of cultures and ethnicities in 1908. Many different types of people blend together as one in a society. America is always a nation of immigration, based on the history element of the country. The generations of immigrants have mixed together. They have refused their origin traditions and cultures to become totally assimilated into American society. That was why American citizen considered United States was a melting pot. In contrast to the soup bowl theory, there is the emergence of salad bowl metaphor. It asserts that the integration of the many different cultures of the United States people combines like a big salad bowl. It means many cultures, languages, and ethic co exist in peaceful, like all kinds of ingredients in a bowl of salad. It mixes together, but it does not dissolve into one. Although the melting pot theory seems to be outdated in American society today, however, there are still a lot of conservatives to favor their views on this metaphor. They think the fusing of different ethnic group is essential for building a cohesive society. Immigrants should give up their origin tradition national identity, and they try to entirely assimilate

The Church of Satan and the Church of Scientology are both new religious movements that share a fascination with the individual self in which they place a lot of attention on this concept. I believe the reasoning for such a focus on the self is because conventional religion never emphasizes it. With that being said, both L. Ron Hubbardand Anton Lavey went on to capitalize on this. They are two charismatic leaders, wanted followers and therefore they tapped into an area that was never discovered before. New religious movements tend to focus more on areas where their previous religion never touch on, or restricted people from thinking that. • 34. Humanism In Renaissance The late Middle Ages were a time of creative fragmentation and new synthesis. The Renaissance, which take place between 1300 and 1700, was a time for education and experimentation. The fifteenth century saw an unprecedented demand for quality education and art and scholarly renaissance. Italian and northern humanists recovered classical knowledge and languages that set education reforms and cultural changes in motion that spread throughout Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Humanism is defined differently depending on who you are asking. Some see the Renaissance as an educational movement driven by a philosophy that stressed the dignity of humankind, individualism, and secular values. Others say, humanists were actually the champions of Catholic Christianity, opposing the pagan teaching of ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle and the Scholasticism that poured out of his writings. But the most accurate definition is, humanism was a neutral form of empirical minded historical scholarship adopted to promote political liberty and a sense of civic responsibility. In simpler terms, it is the belief that all people have the ability to contribute to the betterment of society. Humanism influenced literature and poetry to flourish! The first humanists were orators and poets who wrote original literature in both classical and vernacular languages. Humanism also created jobs! Humanists were given the opportunity to teach rhetoric in the universities, and when they were

If the lower estimate is correct, then out of the estimated two million species on the planet, then an estimated two hundred and two thousand species will become extinct each year. If the larger estimate is correct and that there are an estimated 100 million different species on the planet, then that results in ten thousand and one hundred thousand species who become extinct each year (WWF). It is a way that we discharge anger rather than being accountable. Wow, U.S. history is full of blaming and it affects student s ability to learn about U.S. history. The irony is that the past is still repeating itself with the current crop of politicians. Republicans blame Democrats and vice versa and nothing gets accomplished in Washington D.C. for the American people. The market revolution bears responsibility (blame) for the beginning of the birth of a female labor force. According to writer, Gretchen Swen, the early 19th century was fueled by the explosion of technological innovation, backed up by a lot of hard work. The cotton gin was quickly increasing cotton production in the South; steamboats were churning up the Mississippi river; power looms were transforming the New England textile industry. Transportation was greatly improved, and people relocated in record numbers. The social and technological changes created what s been called a market revolution. The market revolution is defined as growth of commerce, of buying and selling on commercial markets. The cotton boom fueled the first large scale manufacturing in the United States. Textile mills began to spring up across the northeast, and towns grew up around them to house their workers. This innovation not only changed the textile industry, it transformed the social landscape as well. Tom Dublin on camera

  • 46. Addiction Of Social Media Addiction Introduction: Addiction is defined as a compulsive need for a particular obsession. When social media was created, the thought of it turning into an addiction was not a concern. In 2017, 81 percent of Americans have user profiles on social media and are expected to grow to 2.5 billion by 2018 (Statista). Although businesses are advancing through the rapid growth of social media, isolation is also advancing because many now rely on social media as a way to interact with society. Due to the increase of online users, social media is now linked to the increase in isolation. While businesses, schools, and technology are advancing an argument can be made that social media is reducing social interaction. On the flip side an argument can be made that social media increases people s thought processes and networking skills in communities that do not only rely on proximity. Much research has been done on the increase and decrease of a person s feelings of isolation through their use of social media. Side One why social media causes isolation: Social media has become a barrier for many between real and virtual life in which users find comfort by hiding their true selves behind their media created profile. Social interactions are now seen as a frightening experience that many young adults find difficulty facing. Elizabeth Miller states that It s possible that young adults who initially felt socially isolated turned to social media (Miller) . Online social interaction is deemed easier because there is a physical barrier involved. By hiding behind a profile, being yourself is an option, you can create your own story and not worry about immediate responses. For example, teenagers discovered an outlet on the social media platform of Instagram by creating an alternative account known as a finsta . Finstas, short for fake Instagram, are private accounts intended to share personal pictures and ideas only to closest friends. These accounts are shared inside a smaller social circle and the user can use a false name. They can post, their good, their bad and their ugly truths and feel safe that these are only shared within a select and trusted group. Research has shown that users have trouble disconnecting from such accounts,

This education policy was conceived at a time of prosperity, so whether the government continues to increase spending remains to be seen. The new legislation focuses on a pertinent aspect of education, raising standards for students, but determining funding by test scores does not guarantee widespread results. This new policy relies on the threat tactic of schools improving for fear of federal funding being reduced; if a school does not meet the new standards, how will reducing funding improve it? The government will continue funding school districts which are already capable of invoking sufficient test scores, while cutting back funding to the districts which can not, offering the alternative of government funded transportation to another school. This is the legislation s flaw: it should be teachers taking proficiency tests periodically to display their qualifications in order to remain teaching. Most teachers are dedicated to their own education, and so would not likely oppose such a policy. Instead we have the federal government holding funding with the justification of accountability over school districts, demanding improved test scores. This criticism is rooted in both skepticism towards the policy s effectiveness, and confidence in an alternative potential solution: the government could radically change the profession of teaching/education by establishing a national base salary which would consequently mean an overall raise in
