Essay Career Goals
Crafting an essay on the subject of career goals can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty lies not only in articulating one's aspirations but also in presenting a well-structured
and compelling narrative that captures the reader's attention. To begin with, introspection is
required to identify and define personal career goals. This process involves a thorough
examination of one's values, passions, and long-term ambitions.
Once the goals are identified, the challenge is to communicate them effectively. This involves
striking a balance between being specific and realistic while also showcasing ambition and
determination. Finding the right words to express the magnitude of these goals can be daunting,
as there is a need to convey passion without sounding overly idealistic. Achieving this balance
requires careful consideration of language and tone.
Furthermore, structuring the essay poses its own set of challenges. It's essential to have a clear
introduction that grabs the reader's attention, a well-developed body that logically presents the
goals and the path to achieving them, and a conclusion that leaves a lasting impression.
Transitions between different sections must be seamless, ensuring a cohesive and engaging flow
throughout the essay.
The difficulty intensifies when attempting to make the essay stand out from the rest. With
countless essays on career goals circulating, originality becomes crucial. Crafting a unique
narrative that reflects personal experiences and perspectives adds depth to the essay and
distinguishes it from generic responses.
In summary, writing an essay on career goals is a complex task that demands self-reflection,
effective communication of aspirations, careful structuring, and a touch of originality. However,
with dedication and attention to detail, it is possible to create a compelling piece that not only
meets the requirements but also leaves a lasting impact on the reader.

Grand Canyon National Park Short Report
The Grand Canyon is one of the most amazing natural wonders in the world. It was
originally deposited sediment that was lithofied, and turned into sedimentary rock.
The rock was then carved out by hydraulic processes (Warneke). These processes, all
combined, took almost three to six million years to form the Grand Canyon.
Continued erosion by wind and rain in the present time continues to shift what the
canyon looks like, and make it different as time goes on ( Grand Canyon Facts ).
This seemingly boring process came to fruition in one of the most beloved National
Parks in the United States of America. The Grand Canyon National Park is located
in the state of Arizona. It is over 270 miles long and, ... Show more content on

Although it was a National Park it was still not frequently visited, and only had,
approximately, 44,173 visitors a year, the first year it opened. Now it has over five
million visitors every single year. However, if it had not been for the Civilian
Conservation Corps, the park might not be in the condition it is today. In 1933,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corps as a part of his
New Deal (Audretsch). On May 19, 1933 the first Civilian Conservation Corps
Company, Company 819 arrived in the Grand Canyon. They did many things for the
park, including building stone walls alongside the rim of the canyon (to protect
places such as El Tovar Hotel and Bright Angel Lodge). In addition they worked to
improve the Bright Angel Trail, and worked to landscape the Grand Canyon Village
(Audretsch). It is because of their hard work that the Community Building at the
Grand Canyon exists today.
New York CityShort Report
New York City is the largest city in the United States of America. It has a
population of over eight million people (NYC.gov). However, New York City has
not always been this big. It started out undiscovered and untouched by Europeans.
The first natives of New York City were the Lenape and Algonquin people.
(History.com Staff) These two native groups worked the land between the Hudson
and Delaware rivers for their food by farming and fishing (History.com Staff).

The Pros And Cons Of Tenure
Tenure: the Good, the Bad, the Who Cares Governor Scott walker proposed a state
budget in 2015 that cut almost 300 million dollars from higher education and more
controversially took tenure out of the protection of state law (Flaherty, 2015). The
Joint Finance Committee, with a vote of 12 4, cut tenure protection for university
faculty from state stature (Flaherty, 2015). After the vote in the Joint Finance
Committee many faculty members protested and we vocal about the University of
Wisconsin needing to pass eternal policy to protect faculty who have been tenured
and to grant tenureto future faculty at the same protection level of the state stature
(Flaherty, 2015). May state officials however feel that releasing tenure from the
protection of state stature will allow universities more flexibility when dealing with
the budget cuts (Flaherty, 2015).
The exact history and start of tenure in academia is often debated between scholars
and historians. For the purpose of this paper I will view tenure only from the United
States perspective and the scope of tenure will start with the 1940 Fundamental policy
statement created by the Committee on Academic Freedom and Academic Tenure
that is part of the Association of University Professors. Tenure is continually being
challenged by legislation in the United States. Scott Walker and the Wisconsin...

Lysistrata Analysis Essay
Lysistrata is a tale which is centered around an Athenian woman named Lysistrata and
her comrades who have taken control of the Acropolis in Athens. Lysistrata explains
to the old men how the women have seized the Acropolis to keep men from using the
money to make war and to keep dishonest officials from stealing the money. The
opening scene of Lysistrataenacts the stereotypical and traditional characterization of
women in Greece and also distances Lysistrata from this overused expression,
housewife character. The audience is met with a woman, Lysistrata, who is furious
with the other women from her country because they have not come to discuss war
with her. The basic premise of the play is, Lysistrata coming up with a plan to put an

The old men protest how the women they have nourished all these years have turned
against them and seized a sacred shrine. Although, while the men are busy with their
smoking logs, the women walk in carrying pitchers of water which they will pour
over the fires which the men have set. The old men and old women trade insults, but
the women will not back down, and they empty their water over the heads of the old
men. When the magistrate arrives, he tells the men the women s behavior is the
result of the men spoiling their women and treating them with gentleness when they
do not deserve to be cherished. The magistrate orders the men to force open the
doors, but he moves to a safe distance to watch.
When the doors are forced open, Lysistrata emerges. The magistrate orders her
arrested, but the policeman is too intimidated by Lysistrata to arrest her. The other
women join Lysistrata in defying the policemen, who are too cowed to follow the
magistrate s orders to seize the women. The magistrate responds to the women s
actions with a claim, they shall never lose to women and the newly brave police
attack the women, but they are soon beaten off and in retreat. The women say they
can administer the money, since they are used to administering the household money.
Lysistrata also tells the magistrate how the women have been patient while the men
got ready for the war and refused to listen to any advice.
The Cosmological Argument For The Existence Of God
Introduction Atheists often insist there is no evidence for the existence of God while
maintaining religious faith is fundamentally irrational. This paper will examine the
KalДЃm Cosmological Argument (KCA), demonstrating that it offers strong
evidence for the existence of God, thereby providing a rational foundation for the
Christian faith.
Background
The cosmological argument is, a family of arguments that seek to demonstrate the
existence of a Sufficient Reason or First Cause of the existence of the cosmos.
Historians trace an early version of the cosmological argument to Ibn SД«nДЃ (c. 980
1037), and philosophers commonly differentiate argument variations into three basic
categories. The first, the KCA, seeks to establish the First ... Show more content on

Common experience and empirical evidence continually verify the causal principle,
and falsification has not occurred. These considerations lead Dr. Craig to conclude,
It is somewhat unwise to argue in favor of it [the first premise], for any proof of the
principle is likely to be less obvious than the principle itself, and, as Aristotle
remarked, one ought not to try to prove the obvious via the less obvious. Although it
appears irrational to deny the first premise, some scholars have challenged the causal
principle on philosophical grounds. Deriving arguments from David Hume,
philosophers (such as J.L. Mackie) have sought to refute the first premise by
contending there is no reason to believe the causal principle is a priori true. Contrary
to their assertion, the principle of causation appears to be a synthetic a priori
proposition, as it is a universal and necessary feature of both cognition and reality,
providing the precondition of thought itself. Nonetheless, challenging the causal
principle because it is not a priori true does nothing to invalidate the premise since the
assertion does not indicate the premise is false, nor does it compel us to think the
antithesis is plausible that something can truly originate from uncaused. Undeterred,
such opponents further maintain that an infinite chain of contingent events could
provide a sufficient explanation for the existence of the universe, even if it were void a

modern artifact stood out for me. Looking at it from a distance, it grabbed my
attention with its light translucent structure; I couldn t define the shape. In my eyes
all I could see was clustered, intersecting, free stranding lines in the middle of Plaza

Urbanus, for Voltaire s Barcelonans extreme love of freedom 300th anniversary of 11
September 1714. On that date, after a thirteen month siege, the city of Barcelona

involved all sectors of the city. The sacrifices and subsequent spirit of recovery turned
this date into a symbol of the Catalan existing national entity. A colored bamboo

Decision Tree
Decision Tree Analysis
Choosing Between Options by Projecting Likely Outcomes
Decision Trees are useful tools for helping you to choose between several courses of
action.
They provide a highly effective structure within which you can explore options, and
investigate the possible outcomes of choosing those options. They also help you to
form a balanced picture of the risks and rewards associated with each possible course
of action. This makes them particularly useful for choosing between different
strategies, projects or investment opportunities, particularly when your resources are
limited.

Calculating the Value of Decision Nodes
When you are evaluating a decision node, write down the cost of each option along
each decision line. Then subtract the cost from the outcome value that you have
already calculated. This will give you a value that represents the benefit of that
decision. Note that amounts already spent do not count for this analysis these are
sunk costs and (despite the emotional cost) should not be factored into the decision.
When you have calculated these decision benefits, choose the option that has the
largest benefit, and take that as the decision made. This is the value of that decision
node. Figure 4 shows this calculation of decision nodes in our example:
In this example, the benefit we previously calculated for new product, thorough
development was $420,400. We estimate the future cost of this approach as
$150,000. This gives a net benefit of $270,400.
The net benefit of new product, rapid development was $31,400. On this branch we
therefore choose the most valuable option, new product, thorough development , and
allocate this value to the decision node.
Result By applying this technique we can see that the best option is to develop a new
product. It is worth much more to us to take our time and get the product right, than
to rush the product to market. And it s better just to improve our existing products
than to

Yes, Mr. President, we are precisely this divided. About race, and much more.
The Pew Research Center recently reported that for the first time in more than two
decades of surveys, majorities in both parties expressed very unfavorable views of
each other. Fifty eight percent of Republicans have a very unfavorable impression of
Democrats, who in turn have a 55 percent unfavorable view of Republicans.
Strong negative opinions often rise out of ignorance. Not this time. Pew also
reported 85 percent of voters say they are following the election closely. Sixty
percent say they are more interested in politics than they were four years ago.
So rather than an uninformed polarization, the growing, gaping gulch between
Americans is widened by the voices to which we give our attention.

Description Of The Light ( Thermal Energy )
1.Description of Functional features
This experiment is using a method whereby the light (thermal energy) is directed
back upon the can of water from several different directions, increasing the efficiency.
Considering that the reflecting of light cannot add nor remove power, the aluminium
does not act to amplify. However, reproducing the rays using a mirror system
replicates the power. Each individual ray mirrors the power of the original Sun s rays,
but because there are multiple, a much stronger power source is gained. In
addition to this, the rays are targeted better, so rather than a widespread area of one
power level, there is a targeted point with that same power level. This method is
seen frequently today. Look to Image 1.0 , for example, to see the Walkie Talkie
building in London. The single worst designed building in history. Because of its
reflective properties, it was able to heat the pavement below to around 60В°C, and
severely damage cars, ranging from destroying the paintwork to actually melting
parts wing mirrors, car insignias and varies panels. This building, it would seem, is
very supportive of my experiment, proving that targeting the Sun s rays into one spot
does prove to be more intensive. It doesn t, though, seem to like Londoners very
much.
The Walkie Talkie building is curved; however this experiment has 3 walls set up in
somewhat of a half cube. This is shown in Diagram 1.0. Both have their goods and

Siam in the First World War
At the outbreak of the war in August of 1914, which merely 4 years after ascending
to the Throne in 1910, the King Vajiravudh monitoring and was well informed
about development of the war in Europe. Prior to Siam joined the war the king
Vajiravudh observed that Siam was geographically so remote from the war and he
was rightly in thinking that it was wise for Siam to maintain strict and impartial
neutrality. The reason behind this decision was due to the fact that there were
danger signs of the threats to Siamese independence especially during the early
years of the reign. As can be see from the last decade of nineteenth century Siam
was the only independent country in the South East Asia that was surrounded by
British and French colonies from east to west. The incident at Pak Nam , in 1893,
in which French brought the gun boats from their colonies in Indo China to the
Mae Nam and trained the guns on the King s Palace in Bangkok, were still fresh in
the mine of people in Siam. As a result of this conflicted Siam had to cede to France
the right bank of Mae Khong River which included Loung Pra Bang followed by the
whole of Cambodiawhich included Phra Vuhear temple in 1907 after signed Entente
Cordiale agreement of 1907. As well as these Siam also ceded Kedah, Kelanton,
Trangkanu and Perlis to Britain in 1909. Until about 1910s Germany became a new

Social Media And The Bystander Effect
In April of 2017, a hardworking doctor was forced to leave and lugged off a plane
for no apparent reason; soon after, a video of the incident was posted online, causing
outrage throughout our media enhanced world. A woman s hopeless cry for help
was not enough, and although several passengers recorded the horrific episode, no
one intervened nor did anyone help the passenger that had been treated so awfully.
Technology gives us emotional and physical comfort, whether that be in expressing
feelings or chiming in on a controversial current event, in an age where social media
has an immense impact on our habits on and off the web; yet in reality, our phones,
computers, and tablets are turning us into active bystanders allowing and perhaps
even amplifying the bystander effect. The diffusion of responsibilityis a poison that
begins with cell phone usage and spreads to social media. Today, people are too
reliant on technology and fail to comprehend that social media is not social activism.
The Bystander Effect was first demonstrated by psychologists Bibb LatanГ© and
John Darley in 1968, four years after the brutal murder (encompassing thirty or more
witnesses) of Kitty Genovese. It is a social phenomenon in which observers believe
that someone else in a group will intervene and offer help to a victim in need (1).
According to these psychologists, there are two important factors attributed to this
phenomenon, social influence and a perceived diffusion of responsibility. Social

into three distinct phases. Phase one is the production of drugs in Mexico or the
introduction of drugs from other countries within Central America. Phase two is the
transportation of drugs into the US by ways of rail cars, trucks, boats, or rafts to
cross the river. Phase three is the distribution of drugs from wholesale or bulk
quantities of small retail packages for distribution to the streets. One of the major

The Great Influenza
THE GREAT INFLUENZA
The book The Great Influenza by John Barry takes us back to arguably one of the
greatest medical disasters in human history, the book focuses on the influenza
pandemic which took place in the year 1918. The world was at war in the First
World War and with everyone preoccupied with happenings in Europe and winning
the war, the influenza pandemic struck when the human race was least ready and
most distracted by happenings all over the world. In total the influenza pandemic
killed over a hundred million people on a global scale, clearly more than most of
the deadliest diseases in modern times. John Barry leaves little to imagination in
his book as he gives a vivid description of the influenza pandemic of 1918 and
exactly how this pandemic affected the human race. The book clearly outlines the
human activities that more or less handed the human race to the influenza on a
silver platter. There was a war on, a war we had to win (Barry, p.337). An element
of focus in the book is the political happenings back at the time not only in the
United States of America but also all over the world and how politicians playing
politics set the way for perhaps the greatest pandemic in human history to massacre
millions of people. The book also takes an evaluator look at the available medical
installations and technological proficiencies and how the influenza pandemic has
affected medicine all over the world.

The Han Dynasty is the largest dynasty since the Zhou Dynasty, although this is not
the dynasty for wars like the Zhou was. The year is one hundred and the Dynasty
we are living in has learned much from the dynasties before it and used them to
shape our civilization today. In the Han Dynasty we use our language, beliefs, and
government all together for a successful system to live in. These three things are
crucial to our individual lives and why Chinawill retain power for many more
dynasties. Another key to our success is the administrated structure we use. The

Fame Is A Fickle Food Poem Analysis
I love spring time. I love to go outside and hear the birds chirping. The sky is a light

what fame really is.

What Are The Causes Of Communalism
1. Introduction
Communalism is the result of conflicts between various religious groups who try to
promote their own interests at the cost of others. Simplifying, it can be defined as
distinguishing people on the basis of their religion.
Communalism is a serious issue in India that is faced by us. This problem, which
mostly exists amongst the followers of two primary religious communities in our
country Hindus and Muslims, it many times creates sense of tension in secular India.
Such acts have been acclaimed in our country which is disgraceful, shameful and

to disunity among religious groups and in consequence became responsible for

such measure adopted by them. They also acted late in situation of communal
violence while ruling.
5.2 Political Organizations
In our country, political parties major consideration is vote bank. They take benefits
out of communal violence and propagate one religious group that led to feeling of
hatred among other religious groups.
Consider the example of Shah Bano case. Muslims reacted in a hostile way against
the Supreme Court judgement which granted a Muslim divorcee, Shah Bano,

only for the iddah (three months post divorce) period. The then Central government

Key point about the studio system could be:
Despite being one of the biggest industries in the United States, indeed the World, the

The Hollywood Studio System: A History is the first book to describe and analyse the
complete development, classic operation, and reinvention of the global corporate

The following essay will examine how these changes took place, and what impact it
had on the film making industry in America. We shall also examine how the
system relates to the current production methods used in film making. The main
issues raised within the text will be summarised concisely within the conclusion.
Before a film reaches the cinema screen, and its audience it must go through a
three stage process. Firstly and most obviously it has to be produced, following
this it must then be distributed, and finally exhibited. Before the introduction of the
studio system in the 1920s all of these processes were controlled separately.
Although this gave the makers of films, such as directors and producers, room to
express their creativity it placed a heavy constraint upon the amount of movies that
could be made, and financial profits. However, despite Hollywood s uneasy birth,
by the 1920s it had become one of the worlds leading film producers (Dirks, 2002).
This was largely due to the introduction of the producer, or studio syste

Rhetorical Analysis Of Patrick Henry s Give Me Liberty
There is no denying that our country has come a long way, but would we have made
it this far without our founding fathers? Well, there is a possibility that we could
have come to what is now, but it would have most likely taken us years longer to
establish. Along with Thomas Jefferson and Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry
assisted in the formation of the VirginiaHouse of Burgesses. Patrick Henry was a
great American orator, who delivered his most famous speech Give me Liberty , to
the Second Virginia Convention, on March 23, 1775, at St. John s Church, in
Richmond, Virginia. Patrick Henry preached with the intendancy of freeing Virginia
from British colonial rule. He spoke with passion, which revealed his undeniable
support for having the Virginia military involved in fighting against Britain, in the
American Revolutionary War. Henry s use of ethos, logos, and pathos were very
effective. They persuaded even some of his opponents to unite and fight for their
independence. As Henry begins his speech he addressed the opposition with due
respect, But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and
therefore, I hope that it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen. By
acknowledging the citizens with different viewpoints, Henry creates a connection
with the colonists. He sees that he must show empathy and understanding in order to
give the opposing side a chance to actually hear what he has to say. It goes without
saying that Henry knows his
External Conflict In Othello
IN HIS PLAY OTHELLO, SHAKESPEARE EXPLORES HOW CONFLICT CAN
IMPACT NEGATIVLEY ON PEOPLES LIFE. DISCUCSS THIS STATEMENT?
Shakespeare s Othello is a play dependably based on marital, internal and physical
conflict and how it can negatively impact people s lives. Upon closer inspection, the
conflict that exists throughout this play becomes clear that the conflict is the sole
start for the destruction that occurs during the play. Throughout Othello, each
character incites his own jealousy in one another to gain what they crave most;
power. conflict becomes a prominent aspect of tragedy.
internal conflict has the capacity to destruct the true morals of each character.
Conflict stems from Iago s own craving of what others have and what he lacks.
Internal conflict is demonstrated through Iago s emotion of jealousy. as Iago
speaks to Roderigo about the moor, his sense of internal conflict is through
Desdemona and Othello s marriage. For example, his quote, Despise me if I do
not. Three great ones of the city in personal suit to make me his lieutenant off
capped to him I am worth no worse a place . Acts to be a metaphor, emphasising his
conflicted state of mind. Iago believes he deserves the position of lieutenant but
Othello has a different opinion. This clearly shows Iago s hate for Othello because
he is a man of power, something Iago desires. Due to Iago s jealousy Othello finds
himself in the middle of Iago s plots causing a negative impact on Othello s life.
This also impacts each related characters life as Iago is devious and back stabbing
towards Othello. Due to Iago, conflict is shown to negatively dominate in people s
lives.
Conflict is the main theme Shakespeare explores in this play. Brabantio, Othello s
father in law finds himself the root cause to many complications in Othello and
Desdemona s marriage. This is marital conflict due to Brabantio causing issues
between the married couple as he wants them separated. Brabantio begins to display
his hate towards Othello when Othello announces his undying love for Desdemona
Brabantio quoted o thou foul thief, where hast thou stowed my daughter? . This is a
metaphor as Brabantio is convinced that Othello spelled her to love him. Brabantio
believes Othello s

The Possible Effects of Hydraulic Fracturing in
Newfoundland
This essay will examine the possible effects of hydraulic fracturing in
Newfoundland. Hydraulic fracturing is the process of retrieving natural gas from
the earth by injecting fluid into a borehole and pressurizing it, creating cracks in
the rock. hydraulic fracturing fluid is made up of small beads of sand or ceramic,
which prop open the cracks in the rock, as well as water and chemicals, which help
suspend the proppants (sand or ceramic). The hydraulic fracturing fluid is
pressurized, allowing the proppants to open up cracks in the bedrock, creating new
cracks and releasing trapped methanegas. Methane gas is the primary ingredient of
natural gas. Concerns about the safety of hydraulic fracturing stem from the borehole
s permeation of natural fresh water aquifers, but supporters of hydraulic fracturing
argue that the major improvements to the area s economy make the risks worthwhile.
Newfoundland s economy is largely based on oil rigging and mines, but has recently
seen a rise in tourism. The success of Newfoundland s tourism industry relies on the
preservation of their natural environment, meaning that it could be destroyed by
overuse of hydraulic fracturing. This essay will attempt to synthesise the
environmental concerns and the economic benefits of hydraulic fracturing in order to
reach a conclusion. hydraulic fracturing researchers have not reached a consensus on
the effect of hydraulic fracturing on aquifers and the environment. hydraulic

What Life Would Be Like To Live With Only My Mom Or
Dad
Do you ever wonder what life would be like to live with only your mom or dad, not
your mom and dad?
I was six years old my when parents divorced and although I was young, I am still
able to remember the day my dad officially moved out in vivid detail. He was
sitting on our old, musty smelling, green couch that squeaked if pressure was
applied to the back rest. I was sitting on his lap with my arms around his neck and
my head on his chest. Tears dripped down our faces and in that moment I knew that
things involving my family were changing in ways other families were not. Even
though I did not fully understand what a divorce was or why they were divorcing, I
did know that I would not wake up to him say blank every morning before school or
was able to rub his face a day after he shaved.
To say the least, I did not take the splitting of my parents well at all. I was free to go
to my dad s house whenever I wanted because my mom had primary joint custody.
So when I started crying because I wanted to see my dad, my mom would drive me
over. A few hours after I got to my dads, I would cry for my mom and she would
come to pick me up to go back home. That process happened almost every time, the
constant battle I fought with myself of what parent I needed at that moment. No
longer did I have the luxury of having them under the same roof, so at a young age I
had to start choosing one or other. A common ultimatum question parents are asked
is, if me and my siblings were hanging on a

The British Occupation Of Egypt
British Occupation of Egypt in 1882, the Suez Canal and British Involvement in
Egyptian Policy
The British occupation of Egypt in 1882 was a key event in the history of Egypt,
they went bankrupt in 1876 and were under dual control of Britain and France in
1879. Egypt s banks were taken over by British and French representatives and the
Suez Canal was also under the British and French control. The Urabi revolt of 1879
1882 caused a huge uprising against British/French control of Egypt as Ahmed Urabi
rose up against the Khedive of Egypt Tewfik Pasha. The British were forced to
intervene before they lost control of this region that held their most valuable pathway
to India.

The fighting only lasted a couple months and for the British in confirmed their
control of Egypt and allowed them to take control of not just the financial, but also
the economic side of Egypt. The British were very interested in Egyptian cotton as it
grew in long fiber which made it better for making clothing. This is just one of many
interests the British had in this region.
The British occupation of Egypt began to make Egyptians question how much
control of Egypt was actually in their hands and this led to revolutionaries like
Urabi standing up against the British. The British occupied Egypt in 1882 because
they wanted to keep control of the Suez Canal for direct access to India, they
wanted to keep the government under the Khedive s control so they could keep their
access to Egypt s economic resources, especially cotton and they wanted to protect
their joint control alliance with France in order to control the Egyptian nationalists.
There are many conflicting ideas about why the British occupied Egypt, whether it
be for economic purposes or for strategic purposes, the main reason was because of
their control of the Suez Canal.
Alexander Scholch argues that because of initiatives by British Prime Minister
William Gladstone, who wanted to take control

The country of Yemen name is derived from a legendary ancestor named Yaman, the

Its location between the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea was a key reason why so
many civilizations wanted control over the land. It was also a great source for

Rome, Ethiopia, and Persia also occupied Yemen before its eventual conversion into

Literacy Is A Fundamental Basis Of A Student s Academic...
Literacy is a fundamental basis of a student s academic success. Without the skills of
language, reading, and writing, children will have limited academic, economic,
social, and emotional success in school and later in life (Maddox Fung, 2013, p.3).
According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, 33% of U.S. students
in elementary schools read below the basic readinglevel (NAEP, 2009). During this
time, the Common Core initiative was in works to ensure that all students across
America were graduating high school ready for college, career, and life. In 2010, a
majority of the United States adopted the Common Core State Standards [CCSS].
Within these expectations the language, reading, and writing strands were
developed for all grade levels. These three strands were developed to prepare
children to become literate. The CCSS are the most effective way to implement goals
for literacyeducation, for American students to succeed not only in school, but in the
future. First, it is important to understand what it means to be literate and why
being literate is important in today s society. To be literate today means much more
than being able to read and write. For a child today, it means that they are better
able to create, critique, and analyze material. It is important to obtain these skills due
to the rise in technology. Children need to be able to read, analyze, and evaluate
what they find online in order to succeed in school. Building upon these skills
Eye Witness Marvin Anderson
After a very quick Google of eye witness testimonies, I instantly came across
something that intrigued me. The tittle was eye witness misidentification. It was
an article about an African American who was wrongfully convicted by an eye
witness. The story originated on July 18 1982, when a man named Marvin
Anderson was brought into his supervisor s office to be asked a few questions. The
questions were on a rape case that just occurred and they wanted to know if he had
heard anything about the topic. What Marvin didn t know, was that the only
evidence that the police had was that the perpetrator was a black man with a white
girl friend and they were there to also get a picture of him. Only conflict here was

Dense Drizzly Analysis
How does Doyle create a sense of mystery in Ch3? Conan Doyle uses uses a
combination of literary devices to build up tension and create a sense of mystery I
chapter 3 Doyle uses negative words and descriptions of the atmosphere with the
motif of darkness to bring the reader into the mysterious and miserable atmosphere
of a 19th century London. The case of Mary Morstan is presented to start on a
September evening . This particular choice of month brings the reader into the
cold, foggy and often miserable atmosphere of September. The atmosphere is
highlighted by the sentence the day had been a dreary one,and a dense drizzly fog
lay low upon the great city. Doyle uses alliteration as shown in dense drizzly to
illustrate and intensify the imagery of London in the 19th century. The repetition of
the d sounds can bring the reader onto a journey out into the city streets because
they can remind us of the rolling of wheels such as the ones of the four wheeler
Watson,Holmes and Miss Morstan travelled in, and suggest the thudding of horse
hooves on the pavement which a Victorian audience would be very familiar with.
Doyle gives hints of mystery by using the motif of fog and darkness. The
combination of the two() creates a mysterious setting where nothing is clearly
visible(under the cover of darkness )The word low implies that the mystery is very
close to the ground on which Holmes stands on and suggests he alone is putting
himself towards an unknown destination
Oil Drilling In Western Australia
Through the use of advanced technologies, geologists have the capability to predict
potential locations for oil. This is done by the examination of the structure of rock
layers, which is then followed by a test drill in the Earth s surface. Not every
location that gets examined contain commercially viable oil reserves as some
locations will have no oil or gas, some will have tiny amounts, and others will have
the oil present but it will still be trapped within the porous rock layers such as oil shale
. The earth s crust plates are constantly on the move, and the oil reserves migrate
with them. The reason a lot of the oil drilling occurs at sea is particulurarly because

Therefore, the search for potential petroleum reserves can conclude that petroleum
may be accumulated within these porous rocks. The rifting of the continents of the
world began over 160 million years ago. During this first phase of rifting, Middle
Jurassic to Early Cretaceous, a small fragment of crust, Argoland, separated itself
from a section of the northwest coast of Western Australia occupied by the
Canning Basin. It did so by active seafloor spreading in turn allowing the sea to
flood the basin. The seafloor that resulted from this spreading is known as the
Argo Abyssal Plain. Plant material was therefore deposited in the troughs
associated with the rifting and was the source of the Northwest Shelf s oil and gas
deposits. Petroleum that is sourced from Bass Strait is found in the Gippsland
Basin (Figure. Basin s in the area were commonly discovered in the 1960 s, and
were found to contain oil that is produced from the Cretaceous Eocene clastic rocks
of the Latrobe Group. This oil was found to have been deposited also with the rifting
of the continents, specifically the break up of Australia and Antarctica. Therefore,
because of the location of sedimentary rocks predominant around Western Australia
and Bass Strait, geologists can conclude it as being a potential place to search for
Ethical Issues In A Hospital
For this assignment, I spent time volunteering at Mercy Downtown, helping at the
main information desk. While I was there, I assisted visitors in finding patients by
looking up their room number, directed patients and visitors to the correct area of
the hospital, and delivered flowers to rooms that had been dropped off. A paid
employee also accompanied me while there, as volunteers are not allowed to
actually look up patient information via the online portal, but I could call a different
help desks within the hospital to ask other paid employees to look patients up for me
if needed. The experience made me realize that there are so many little unthought of
components to making a hospital as big as Mercy be efficient for everyone. The

I have learned that no matter how many times people tell me not to judge a person
by their appearance, I have grown up in a world where we still do it daily
regardless of how hard we try not to. I go back and forth thinking about whether it
s right or wrong to so openly give out patient room numbers but in the end, I think
it s really only fair to do so. I think there could be changes, if possible phone up to a
room and ask the patient if they know so and so, and if they want them to come to
their room. Another option might be calling the nurses station or something on the
floor, but I can only imagine how crazy that would drive employees who are trying

many situations and circumstances that could sway between ethical and unethical,
and the decision about what to do is probably very difficult. It has been made very

asserts an exceptional point, Adnan is popular among the females in his school
and he most likely isn t completely devastated by their breakup. Although he was a
bit emotional, he moved on. Others also advocated a similar statement, But nearly
everyone I ve spoke with, Adnan s friends and teachers say he took the breakup

typical guy way, nothing strange. Everyone I talked to said some version of this,
that he wasn t rage filled or vindictive. He was just sad (Episode 2: The Breakup p.

extreme between Adnan and Hae after their breakup. After analyzing these pieces

he allegedly murdered Hae. Asia McClain was a high schooler that attended Adnan s
school and composed a couple letters to him after he was arrested. One of these

a secluded Costa Rican island. Furthermore, he plans to show his creations to the
world in a new theme park which he has named Jurassic Park . Prior to the official

dinosaurs in the exhibits, but also the fiercest with two Tyrannosaurus Rexes and
multiple Velociraptors. Wonder of Hammond s feat soon turns to horror though as the
management of the park goes awry. Those who survive the initial systems failures

One literary criticism states, Hammond believes that science s impressive logic and
mechanical integrity can overcome the organic, often chaotic forces of nature, but
human weakness, vulnerabilities in the technology , and above all the female

cautionary tale for our time (Hamilton and Jones). This quote from an article shows
the idea that Jurassic Park was created on a highly technological basis and thought of
as unstoppable by Hammond. It also shows reasoning that although it was advanced
with a backing of science, it still failed greatly in the end . This quote further
supports the basis of Michael Crichton writing the book on technological innovation

Reflection On Learning In Education
Russell (2013) discusses the education of student teachers in depth, and supports
Hebert s idea (2015) that reflections must be taught in conjunction with practical
experience and that the two must be connected in order to lead the student to a higher
level of understanding about their teaching.
However, Russell (2013) also examines that reflection can lead to the wrong course
of action if the practitioner misjudges the situation. So, in proceeding with different
courses of action, there is the chance that there will be a counterproductive outcome
if you choose the wrong way of acting. If you look at the impact this has on
learning and on the child, it could be construed as a negative consequence of
reflection. In the case of special needs children, it is difficult to measure what the
lasting damage of an ill conceived course of action would have on the child.
Russell (2013) analyses Zeichner s assertions (1996) that reflection on your own
teaching is limited when you are training to be a teacher because you are more
likely to observe and learn from more experienced teachers. Only when you have
finished your training and begin working can you start to gain experience and begin
to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
Wegner et al ((2014) looked at Korthagen s ALACT model (1999) in their article
which deals with making improvements in teaching. They discuss the relevance of
reflective competence which involves linking theory and practice to become
subjective about

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Planet
The effects of climate change have become more apparent than ever within the last
100 years. Increasing climates have been proven; with the warmest temperatures in
30 years being recorded (Houghton, 1994). Suggested cause of this increase is
population change, the ever increasing demand for natural resources to sustain
economic growth has resulted in exploitation of ecological systems at a rate never
recorded before. These huge changes to the planet will have a knock on effect to
individual and global ecosystems resulting in varying levels of positive feedback.
Throughout this essay I will be discussing on various ways climate changeeffects the

The Carbon Cycle consists of the vital components for all animal and plant lives. It
is primarily a reflection on primary and secondary production (Krebs, 2009). As
seen in Figure 2, carbon levels have not been constant throughout history. Figure 3
represents the basic components of the Carbon cycle. The diagram shows that the
oceans are the largest sink of carbon, and is at a constant equilibrium of
atmospheric CO2 and aqueous CO2. The increase in atmospheric CO2 levels
causes ocean acidification by decreasing the pH of the oceans. PH values are said
to have dropped by 0.1pH units since pre industrial levels and are expected to drop a
further 0.3 units by the end of the 20th century (Scott C Doney, 2007). This chemical
change will have knock on affects in many marine ecosystems, which will be
discussed later.
However, there are positive results of the rapid increase of CO2 in relation to plants

Management of the Educational System
Education in Nigeria is the shared responsibility of the federal, state and local
governments. The Federal Ministry of Education plays a dominant role in regulating
the education sector, engaging in policy formation and ensuring quality control.
However, the federal government is more directly involved with tertiary education
than it is with school education, which is largely the responsibility of state
(secondary) and local (primary) governments. The education sector is divided into
three sub sectors: basic (nine years), post basic/senior secondary (three years), and
tertiary (four to seven years, depending on the major or course of study). Education in
Nigeria is provided by public and private institutions. Education is placed on the
concurrent legislative list in the 1999 constitution that provides the legal framework
for educational management in Nigeria. This implies that both Federal and State
governments have legislative jurisdiction and corresponding functional
responsibilities with respect to education. By this arrangement, a few functions are
exclusively assigned to the Federal or State government, most of the functions and
responsibilities are in fact shared by the three tiers of government. Statutorily, the
Federal Ministry of Education (FME) is at the apex of the regulation and
management of education in the country and to discharge this mandate, the ministry is
Persuasive Essay About My Favorite Movie
For as long as I can remember the Adventures of the Wilderness Family has been
my favorite movie. I was fascinated by how close to nature Pat, Skip, Jenny, and
Toby were and particularly how close to wildlife they were. Every time I watched
that movie I was just in awe of how beautiful it was and how they could sustain
themselves and persevere through anything including multiple animal attacks.
When I was a kid I always imagined running free in a field filled with flowers and
being so close to nature and feeling free to explore my own little world. I have
watched this movie countless times and have purposely never examined any faults
the movie might have because I enjoyed it exactly the way it was. I never looked at
it and actually saw... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whenever a character got attacked they seemed to take it really lightly, when
realistically that is life threatening. Childhood me really appreciated this movie for
the kind of life I hoped to live when I got older. As a kid I would spend a lot of time
by the pond outside my dad s house and exploring the woods and backyard with my
brothers and my Dad and watching this movie made me look toward the
possibility of one day living a life that ultimately felt free from my parents issues
and social conflicts and allowed me to find the heart and soul of who I am and
depend on myself as I felt in a way I always had. As a kid I felt like the odd duck
out sometimes and felt trapped between my parents as I still do today, so moving
to a place like Gunnison National Forest seemed like the ultimate sense of freedom
to me. I wasn t looking for a place where I felt like I was free from all of the issues I
had to deal with growing up and I could thrive as an individual without having to
worry about having the coolest new things that my elementary peers had before it
was uncool or eventually about having the latest Apple products or designer
handbags. A lesson this movie really pushes to heart on its viewers is the importance
of reducing materialistic values. During the time that this movie was produced
America started becoming more urban and building new cities. The start of the movie

Purified Pectinase Lab Report
3.8.5. Thermal stability of purified pectinase enzyme:
In this section thermal stability of the purified enzyme was studied at pH 5.5 and all
optimum conditions of enzyme and substrate concentration. The enzyme solution was
preheated at different temperature 40В°C, 50В°C, 60В°Cand 70В°C for various time
periods from 10 to 60 minutes. After each heat period, the enzyme was rapidly cooled
in an ice bath. The activity of pectinase was determined by adding the substrate and
carrying out the enzymatic reaction under optimum reaction conditions.
The results in (Table 29, Fig. 31) illustrated that as temperature of heating and time of
exposure of the enzyme increase, stability of this enzyme decrease. The purified
pectinase enzyme when exposed to 45В°C ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

3.8.6. The influence of some metal ions and some chemical compounds on the
purified pectinase activity:
This experiment was carried out for determination of the influence of 0.01M and
0.1M of each of CuSO4, NaCl, CdCl2, CaCl2, KCl, BaCl2, FeSO4.7H2O,
MgSO4.7H2O, and EDTA and zinc acetate on pectinase activity. The enzyme solution
in acetate buffer pH 5.5 was incubated with each of the tested substance at35В°C for
30minutes then adding the substrate and carrying out the enzymatic reaction assay
under the optimum conditions. The pectinase activity was determined and the results
were investigated. Enzyme activity assayed in the absence of an additive was
considered to be 100%.
The results recorded in (table 30) and (figure 32) Indicated that Cu+2 activated the
enzyme at 0.01M concentration by 1.2 fold and the activity gradually decrease by
increasing the metal concentration to 0.1M with activity 51.29U/mg protein. Na+ ion

Character of Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams A...
The Character of Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire
Animals are, by nature, passionately instinctive; that is, when reacting to a situation,
they do so forcefully and spontaneously. Therefore, we can think of passionate
instinct as an intense, innate reaction to a particular situation. Animals also lack what
we call inhibition the suppression of a natural drive, instinct or feeling. For instance,
when a skunk senses danger, it will not restrain its natural, defensive reaction and will
not hesitate to spray a foul smelling substance in the direction of the danger for self
protection. When cattle sense a threat to their environment, they do not try to
rationalize their way to safety they stampede. If a bull s passions are ... Show more

Stanley seems to be what we would consider a typical man: he works to support his
wife, whom he loves dearly; he gets together with his friends to play cards or go
bowling, and he seems to think of himself as the king of his castle . However, he is
also seen as being animalistic in nature, as he, too, is ruled by passionate instinct. We
can think of him as being animalistic because his reaction to various situations for
instance, his reaction when Stella breaks up his card game (I, iii, 57) is often intense,
violent, and very instinctive in nature.
However, animals also become threatened and often react in a savage, violent way
in order to defend themselves. When Stanley learns of his wife s loss of Belle
Reve, he reacts in the same way that an animal would when a threat to its family is
sensed; Stanley reacts with growing hostility and violent, uncivilized behavior. He
instantly believes that Blanche, his sister in law, has swindled his wife, Stella. Since
he thinks that Stella has been swindled, he feels that he, too, has been swindled.
When Stella tells him not to question Blanche about Belle Reve, we can clearly see
that he has become hostile towards Blanche: So that s the deal, huh? Sister Blanche
cannot be annoyed with business details right now (I, ii, 34). He then becomes
defensive, searching through Blanche s property, becoming angry towards
The Victorian Era
Throughout history, cultures and societies across the globe have used monsters or
any sort of creature to exemplify anxieties and fears that they have. The same can be
said for works of literature and art. These authors use these anxieties, personify them,
and use them to exaggerate the fears of the readers. In short, the monsters/creatures
that are created in each literary era depict and personify the biggest fears and
viewpoints of the society that it was written in. In the case of the Victorian/Romantic
era in British Literature, many authors discuss the many different feelings about
science and the role of women at the time. Both the Romantic and Victorian eras of
English history were product of the scientific developments that occurred during these
periods of history. The Romantic era was the response that artists, authors, and
society in general had from the Age of Reason (or Enlightenment), where the major
philosophers and scientists of the day believed that humans could change through
rational ways of thinking. These Romantic writers chose the supernatural or miracles
over the scientific method as well as passion over reason. Similarly, the Victorian era
was marked by major discoveries and writings such as Charles Lyell s Principles of
Geology and Charles Darwins Origin of Species and The Decent of Man . These
works terrified the growing Evangelical movement because they were frightened at
the notion of the human species sharing an ancestor with primates,
The Effects Of Climate Change On Earth
In another matter, this is not the first time that climate change has affected the
planet in the past there were many problems to the earth millions of years ago.
There were five major ice ages from the longest and first scientists believe occurred
was two point four to two point one billion years ago during the early Proterozoic
Eon there was an ice ageformed and it was the Huronian. The second ice age was the
cryogenian and it has been known that it produced a snowball earthin which
permanent sea ice extended to or very near the earth s equator; this period occurred
from eight hundred and fifty to six hundred and thirty million years ago. The third ice
age that occurred was the Andean Saharan it occurred during the Paleozoic from fout

Scientists believe the possible causes of the medieval warm period were increase in
solar activity, decrease volcanic activity, and change to ocean circulation. After the
medieval ended what followed was the little ice age; the little ice age is a period
between the thirteen hundreds to the eighteen seventies. During this time Europe and
North America were subjected to a much colder winters than during the 20th century.
Scientists believe the cause of this period was cyclical lows in solar radiation,
heightened volcanic activity, changes in the ocean circulation, variations in earth s
orbit, and axial tilt, inherent variability in global climate and decrease in the human
population these just the few reasons why the little ice age was formed.
Climate change has caused many problems to humans and ironically the cause of
it are humans them selves. One of the major problems that climate changed has
caused is food crisis; hotter temperatures will severely diminish the world s ability
to grow crops and feed humanity and other animals. The effects of major heat
waves recorded in the past were very excruciating like the one in Western Europe
during the summer of 2003 which hunted the crop yield deeply. Also in 2003 Italy
was affected by a big heat wave where a maze yield feel by 36%. These are major
signs that humans won t have any thing to feed themselves in several years if this
damaging global warming continues.
The World On The Terrorism
When looking at the terrorism that ISIS has endued it has become very evident that
a solution needs to be drawn into action. In my opinion the only way to take down
this organization is to begin to treat it like the state that it is. A state is defined as: a
nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one
government. ISIS has not only gained territory in Syria, Iraq and Istanbul but
according to New York Times columnist, Tim Arango, ISIS is building a capacity to
govern. In 2014, ISIS formally informed the world on their establishment of a
caliphate. This caliphate is governed under Islamic beliefs and rulers. They have
begun issuing identification cards for residents, promulgating fishing guidelines to
preserve stocks, and requiring that cars carry tool kits for emergencies (Arango).
Believe it or not, ISIS has been a state for two years, regardless of their lack of
legitimacy, their consistent threat of violence against any of those who oppose their
beliefs allows them not only to get things done, but get them done efficiently.
Whether we want to accept it, ISIS is a state, and we need to treat it as such.
On the 29th of June in 2014, ISIS announced that a caliphate has been establish and
the caliph was to be Caliph Ibrahim. The saying goes, In order to kill a snake, one
must cut off its head. The head of ISIS is the caliphate in Iraq/Syria. I believe that
collapsing the caliphate will collapse the organization. I have a proposed
Martin Luther King Jr. And The Civil Rights Movement
Martin Luther King Jr was a very great leader. He was one of the most affective
people in the civil rights movement. He has been helping people since when he was
a little boy. He would also help people with his smartness. Lastly, one of his best
qualities was being a good speech man. Martin Luther King Jr was one of the best
leaders of all time. Martin Luther King Jr was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta
Georgia. His real name when he was born was Michael, but he later changed it to
Martin. He grew up in the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, where his grandfather
and father were both pastors there when he was a kid. Until his father s death, he
was the co pastor. Martin was a very strong Christian. This was Martin s childhood.

Soccer And Commerce Essay
Nowadays, a growing number of people argue that whether modern soccer should
become more related to commerce, because the fund is becoming the major
criterion to estimate the value of a club and coming from various sources, which
include advertising, tickets, finical support and so on. Although some people will
say that overfull commercial atmosphere will be the toxic for soccer game,
however I think that the combination of soccer and commerce will be the paradigm
of modern soccer s revolution. With the increased rate of people criticize
commercial activities such as interviews; advertisements and kinds of parties will
decrease the concentration of player for the game. They mention that the basic role
of a player is to play exciting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They think some players lives in a house, which costs million dollars, and with a
few supercars in their car barns, and media always like reporting news about the
famous players and share lives to fans that is kind of sensationalization. However,
in my opinion media is a way to help players build the influence; andwhat kind of
lives they live depend on how endeavor they pay out. If I ask who is the most
famous player now, no matter from information or people s know, you cannot deny
that David Beckham is most valuable player in the world that although he as an
assistant instead of being a player of the England team to World Cup in South
Africa, he is being pushed as an ambassador for the sport here in England as the
country bids to land the 2018 World Cup (Steve Bott, England s Beckham era is over
but his influence remains, Retrieved March16 2010, http://www.sportingo.com
/football/~influence remains). Even some people, who are living in some very poor
area, do not know the name Obama, but they know the name Beckham. That is why
England pushes Beckham as an ambassador to bid the 2018 World Cup. People
always remember that how Beckham scored by his Golden Right Foot , but not much
of them know why Beckham could shoot such a prefect free kick. The answer of
secret is that through thousands and thousands times practice. Despite the fact that
commercial soccer will advance and improve
The Importance Of Being A Performance Designer
Being a performance designer
Writing from experience, being a costume and set designer for performances is a
really demanding and challenging job. I have to admit that when I was young, as
an audience member, I could never have imagined how much work is really
needed to be done in order to produce a performance show. Now, being on the other
side, I am able to appreciate designer s works, ambitions and goals; wanting to
become really successful on this field.
Looking back on my first years of studying, I was lost and unsure of how to
approach a given theme; to work in depth in order to create a piece that will
successfully communicate my ideas. Through experience and practice, on my studies

mainly taught from my University.
As examples I will use two projects, that I have done throughout my second year of
the Bachelor degree, Living Image Marcel Duchamp Sonata and Design for dance
SkingCage . I chose those two because they have some similarities and some
differences that I can use in order to explain my beliefs on how a performance
designing team works, the journey that is needed to be taken in order to conclude to
a successful piece, what failures they might face and how. I will divide the page into
two sections: on the left the Sonata project, working mainly on the costumes, and on
the right the SkinCage project working mainly on the sets.

Management Information Systems and Its Importance
|
What you think Management of Information Systems is and why it is important in
today s business environment?
Management Information Systems (MIS) is the term given to the discipline focused
on the integration of computer systems with the aims and objectives on an
organization. Modern businesses have been leveraging on MIS to manage, order,
organize and manipulate the gigabytes and masses of information generated for
various purposes. MIS helps businesses optimize business processes, address
information needs of employees and various stakeholders and take informed strategic
decisions. The development and management of information technology tools assists
executives and the general workforce in performing any tasks related to the ... Show

Expert organizations such as the Institute of MIS along with peer reviewed journals
such as MIS Quarterly continue to find and report new ways to use MIS to achieve
business objectives.
Better Planning and Control:
MIS has to be designed and managed in such way that it aggregates information,
monitors the company s activities and operations and enhances communication and
collaboration among employees (Obrien). This ensures better planning for all
activities and better ways to measure performance, manage resources and facilitate
compliance with industry and government regulations. Control helps in forecasting,
preparing accurate budgets and providing the tools and vital information to
employees, top management and business partners.
Core Competencies:
Every market leading enterprise will have at least one core competency that is, a
function they perform better than their competition. By building an exceptional
management information system into the enterprise it is possible to push out ahead
of the competition. MIS systems provide the tools necessary to gain a better
understanding of the market as well as a better understanding of the enterprise itself.
Enhance Supply Chain Management:
Improved reporting of business processes leads inevitably to a more streamlined
production process. With better information on the production process, comes the
ability to improve the management of the supply chain,
The 400 Blows Analysis
The 400 Blows is a French New Wave film made in 1959, directed by François
Truffaut as his debut feature film. The film focuses on the trials and tribulations of
a young adolescent named Antoine Doinel played by Jean Pierre LГ©aud, who is
growing up in Paris during the early 1950s. While trying to find freedom from the
craziness of life, Antoine is faced with overcoming loneliness and the harsh
consequences on his unexplained actions. Inspired by Truffaut s personal life, the
director expresses pivotal moments of his own childhood through a rendition of
Antoine. Truffaut s directorial premiere owes the success of his first feature filmto the
outstanding performances, beautiful cinematography, and chaotic production design.
Truffaut s unstable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see from clever fades Jump cuts, match cuts and various long takes. Truffaut
does this in an effort to move forward his vision of the auteur theory. The opening
sequence uses a series of high angle shots to assist in establishing a feeling of
childhood innocence and indeed, the child in this film, Antoine Dionel (Jeanne
Pierre Leaud), starts out innocent. The camera focuses of the city buildings and the
sky above. As shown from a ground point of view, the buildings are larger than life
and intimidating. This is how most children view the world, as being large and
intimidating. Take, for example, the scenario of dropping a child off for his/her
first day of school. Most of them are devastated because they have to deal with a
world that is larger than the one they know, and that is intimidating. The sky is vast
and innocent, symbolizing a child s mind. Children have incredible imaginations and
are also innocent by nature. There is a definite correlation here between the angle
selected and the sense of childhood innocence. However, this particular camera angle
does not always hold the same meaning in every
Kill Bill Volume 1 Aesthetics
Each person will make for himself the kind of nude he wants, with the nude that I
will have made for him. He ll put everything where it belongs, with his own eyes
(Picasso, 2009). This is what the term aesthetic is; an individual s set of ideas about
style and taste, along with its expression. Aesthetics has the role to enhance any
visual object, appliance, theme and concept, inducing the trust and relationship of
form and content within a viewer or audience of a film or production. To fully
understand how the role of aestheticsfurthers a theme or concept of a narrative we
must look at the medium of film and its scenographic elements. These elements
contribute to establishing an atmosphere and mood for a film or theatrical
presentation (Eagan,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quality, intensity and direction of lighting can influence an audience s
understanding of a films characters, actions, themes and mood. The colour of the
lighting can also hold thematic relevance like in the film Kill Bill Volume 1 where
one of the crazy 88 members run through a red hallway. This red is used throughout
the entire film and represents danger (Kill Bill Volume 1, 2003). This explanation is
supported by the fact that the antagonists of the scene all emerge from this red
hallway proving the danger. Highlighted lighting in a film, for example, call attention
to shapes and textures, while shadows often conceal things, creating a sense of
mystery or fear. For this reason, lighting must be thoroughly planned in advance to
ensure its desired effect on an audience. Lighting can make a scene feel happy, sad,
mysterious or even dangerous hence furthering the concept portrayed in a film
without even needing dialogue from the actors. Lighting in its entirety plays a huge
role in the aesthetic of a film as it creates the context furthering the concept in which
the entire film happens (G., 2000). It has an impact on acting, production design,
costuming, editing, makeup, visual effects, the plot and

Essay Career Goals

  • 1. Essay Career Goals Crafting an essay on the subject of career goals can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies not only in articulating one's aspirations but also in presenting a well-structured and compelling narrative that captures the reader's attention. To begin with, introspection is required to identify and define personal career goals. This process involves a thorough examination of one's values, passions, and long-term ambitions. Once the goals are identified, the challenge is to communicate them effectively. This involves striking a balance between being specific and realistic while also showcasing ambition and determination. Finding the right words to express the magnitude of these goals can be daunting, as there is a need to convey passion without sounding overly idealistic. Achieving this balance requires careful consideration of language and tone. Furthermore, structuring the essay poses its own set of challenges. It's essential to have a clear introduction that grabs the reader's attention, a well-developed body that logically presents the goals and the path to achieving them, and a conclusion that leaves a lasting impression. Transitions between different sections must be seamless, ensuring a cohesive and engaging flow throughout the essay. The difficulty intensifies when attempting to make the essay stand out from the rest. With countless essays on career goals circulating, originality becomes crucial. Crafting a unique narrative that reflects personal experiences and perspectives adds depth to the essay and distinguishes it from generic responses. In summary, writing an essay on career goals is a complex task that demands self-reflection, effective communication of aspirations, careful structuring, and a touch of originality. However, with dedication and attention to detail, it is possible to create a compelling piece that not only meets the requirements but also leaves a lasting impact on the reader. • 2. Grand Canyon National Park, New York City, and the... Grand Canyon National Park Short Report The Grand Canyon is one of the most amazing natural wonders in the world. It was originally deposited sediment that was lithofied, and turned into sedimentary rock. The rock was then carved out by hydraulic processes (Warneke). These processes, all combined, took almost three to six million years to form the Grand Canyon. Continued erosion by wind and rain in the present time continues to shift what the canyon looks like, and make it different as time goes on ( Grand Canyon Facts ). This seemingly boring process came to fruition in one of the most beloved National Parks in the United States of America. The Grand Canyon National Park is located in the state of Arizona. It is over 270 miles long and, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it was a National Park it was still not frequently visited, and only had, approximately, 44,173 visitors a year, the first year it opened. Now it has over five million visitors every single year. However, if it had not been for the Civilian Conservation Corps, the park might not be in the condition it is today. In 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corps as a part of his New Deal (Audretsch). On May 19, 1933 the first Civilian Conservation Corps Company, Company 819 arrived in the Grand Canyon. They did many things for the park, including building stone walls alongside the rim of the canyon (to protect places such as El Tovar Hotel and Bright Angel Lodge). In addition they worked to improve the Bright Angel Trail, and worked to landscape the Grand Canyon Village (Audretsch). It is because of their hard work that the Community Building at the Grand Canyon exists today. New York CityShort Report New York City is the largest city in the United States of America. It has a population of over eight million people (NYC.gov). However, New York City has not always been this big. It started out undiscovered and untouched by Europeans. The first natives of New York City were the Lenape and Algonquin people. (History.com Staff) These two native groups worked the land between the Hudson and Delaware rivers for their food by farming and fishing (History.com Staff). However, at the beginning of
  • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Tenure Tenure: the Good, the Bad, the Who Cares Governor Scott walker proposed a state budget in 2015 that cut almost 300 million dollars from higher education and more controversially took tenure out of the protection of state law (Flaherty, 2015). The Joint Finance Committee, with a vote of 12 4, cut tenure protection for university faculty from state stature (Flaherty, 2015). After the vote in the Joint Finance Committee many faculty members protested and we vocal about the University of Wisconsin needing to pass eternal policy to protect faculty who have been tenured and to grant tenureto future faculty at the same protection level of the state stature (Flaherty, 2015). May state officials however feel that releasing tenure from the protection of state stature will allow universities more flexibility when dealing with the budget cuts (Flaherty, 2015). The exact history and start of tenure in academia is often debated between scholars and historians. For the purpose of this paper I will view tenure only from the United States perspective and the scope of tenure will start with the 1940 Fundamental policy statement created by the Committee on Academic Freedom and Academic Tenure that is part of the Association of University Professors. Tenure is continually being challenged by legislation in the United States. Scott Walker and the Wisconsin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The University of Wisconsin s tenure policy also states the clause for how a person is dismissed
  • 4. Lysistrata Analysis Essay Lysistrata is a tale which is centered around an Athenian woman named Lysistrata and her comrades who have taken control of the Acropolis in Athens. Lysistrata explains to the old men how the women have seized the Acropolis to keep men from using the money to make war and to keep dishonest officials from stealing the money. The opening scene of Lysistrataenacts the stereotypical and traditional characterization of women in Greece and also distances Lysistrata from this overused expression, housewife character. The audience is met with a woman, Lysistrata, who is furious with the other women from her country because they have not come to discuss war with her. The basic premise of the play is, Lysistrata coming up with a plan to put an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The old men protest how the women they have nourished all these years have turned against them and seized a sacred shrine. Although, while the men are busy with their smoking logs, the women walk in carrying pitchers of water which they will pour over the fires which the men have set. The old men and old women trade insults, but the women will not back down, and they empty their water over the heads of the old men. When the magistrate arrives, he tells the men the women s behavior is the result of the men spoiling their women and treating them with gentleness when they do not deserve to be cherished. The magistrate orders the men to force open the doors, but he moves to a safe distance to watch. When the doors are forced open, Lysistrata emerges. The magistrate orders her arrested, but the policeman is too intimidated by Lysistrata to arrest her. The other women join Lysistrata in defying the policemen, who are too cowed to follow the magistrate s orders to seize the women. The magistrate responds to the women s actions with a claim, they shall never lose to women and the newly brave police attack the women, but they are soon beaten off and in retreat. The women say they can administer the money, since they are used to administering the household money. Lysistrata also tells the magistrate how the women have been patient while the men got ready for the war and refused to listen to any advice.
  • 5. The Cosmological Argument For The Existence Of God Introduction Atheists often insist there is no evidence for the existence of God while maintaining religious faith is fundamentally irrational. This paper will examine the KalДЃm Cosmological Argument (KCA), demonstrating that it offers strong evidence for the existence of God, thereby providing a rational foundation for the Christian faith. Background The cosmological argument is, a family of arguments that seek to demonstrate the existence of a Sufficient Reason or First Cause of the existence of the cosmos. Historians trace an early version of the cosmological argument to Ibn SД«nДЃ (c. 980 1037), and philosophers commonly differentiate argument variations into three basic categories. The first, the KCA, seeks to establish the First ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Common experience and empirical evidence continually verify the causal principle, and falsification has not occurred. These considerations lead Dr. Craig to conclude, It is somewhat unwise to argue in favor of it [the first premise], for any proof of the principle is likely to be less obvious than the principle itself, and, as Aristotle remarked, one ought not to try to prove the obvious via the less obvious. Although it appears irrational to deny the first premise, some scholars have challenged the causal principle on philosophical grounds. Deriving arguments from David Hume, philosophers (such as J.L. Mackie) have sought to refute the first premise by contending there is no reason to believe the causal principle is a priori true. Contrary to their assertion, the principle of causation appears to be a synthetic a priori proposition, as it is a universal and necessary feature of both cognition and reality, providing the precondition of thought itself. Nonetheless, challenging the causal principle because it is not a priori true does nothing to invalidate the premise since the assertion does not indicate the premise is false, nor does it compel us to think the antithesis is plausible that something can truly originate from uncaused. Undeterred, such opponents further maintain that an infinite chain of contingent events could provide a sufficient explanation for the existence of the universe, even if it were void a
  • 6. A Unique Atmosphere a unique atmosphere. The flow was very artistic; you can see colors all over, artifacts on every town square, greenery and organic flowing lines. Within all this Design madness a modern artifact stood out for me. Looking at it from a distance, it grabbed my attention with its light translucent structure; I couldn t define the shape. In my eyes all I could see was clustered, intersecting, free stranding lines in the middle of Plaza Nova. This installation titled Identity was designed by Chinese based studio Urbanus, for Voltaire s Barcelonans extreme love of freedom 300th anniversary of 11 September 1714. On that date, after a thirteen month siege, the city of Barcelona collided with French Castilian troops and it turned into a very bloody affair that involved all sectors of the city. The sacrifices and subsequent spirit of recovery turned this date into a symbol of the Catalan existing national entity. A colored bamboo structure in a grid installation reinterpreting a form of an ancient wall with vaults creating openings you could walk through. This modern artifact had clearly behind it more than aesthetic beauty; a sense of travel through Time and Space emerged while gazing in to this monument. The Identity piece had an urban definition within the space and a strong feel of cultural representation. TIME The openings from both sides are crucial design elements. Each side represents a culture; on one of them you have the series of Roman arched opening. The Roman
  • 7. Decision Tree Decision Tree Analysis Choosing Between Options by Projecting Likely Outcomes Decision Trees are useful tools for helping you to choose between several courses of action. They provide a highly effective structure within which you can explore options, and investigate the possible outcomes of choosing those options. They also help you to form a balanced picture of the risks and rewards associated with each possible course of action. This makes them particularly useful for choosing between different strategies, projects or investment opportunities, particularly when your resources are limited. How to Use the Tool You start a Decision Treewith a decision that you need to make. Draw a small square to represent this on the left hand side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calculating the Value of Decision Nodes When you are evaluating a decision node, write down the cost of each option along each decision line. Then subtract the cost from the outcome value that you have already calculated. This will give you a value that represents the benefit of that decision. Note that amounts already spent do not count for this analysis these are sunk costs and (despite the emotional cost) should not be factored into the decision. When you have calculated these decision benefits, choose the option that has the largest benefit, and take that as the decision made. This is the value of that decision node. Figure 4 shows this calculation of decision nodes in our example: In this example, the benefit we previously calculated for new product, thorough development was $420,400. We estimate the future cost of this approach as $150,000. This gives a net benefit of $270,400. The net benefit of new product, rapid development was $31,400. On this branch we therefore choose the most valuable option, new product, thorough development , and allocate this value to the decision node. Result By applying this technique we can see that the best option is to develop a new product. It is worth much more to us to take our time and get the product right, than to rush the product to market. And it s better just to improve our existing products than to
  • 8. Argumentative Essay On Race And Race At the end of the week that brought Baton Rouge, St. Paul, and Dallas, President Obama said, America is not as divided as some have suggested. Isn t it pretty to think so? Has the president not seen the headlines? Rudy Giuliani says Black Lives Matter is Racist. Jesse Jackson says Donald Trump helped seed the clouds of recent violence. Those were but two. Maybe the president needs to read my emails. Black Lives Matter, a rent a cop mob equivalent to the KKK, has been provoking this for months without anyone in the black community condemning what did we expect to be the logical conclusion? He may have been among them. Yet our headlines, discourse, and survey after survey show we still wrestle with race. Yes, Mr. President, we are precisely this divided. About race, and much more. The Pew Research Center recently reported that for the first time in more than two decades of surveys, majorities in both parties expressed very unfavorable views of each other. Fifty eight percent of Republicans have a very unfavorable impression of Democrats, who in turn have a 55 percent unfavorable view of Republicans. Strong negative opinions often rise out of ignorance. Not this time. Pew also reported 85 percent of voters say they are following the election closely. Sixty percent say they are more interested in politics than they were four years ago. So rather than an uninformed polarization, the growing, gaping gulch between Americans is widened by the voices to which we give our attention. A Washington Times story last week screamed, Americans increasingly seeking media outlets that confirm pre existing partisan views. The Public Policy Polling people recently found Republicans only trust Fox News while Democrats trust any news other than

  • 11. Description Of The Light ( Thermal Energy ) 1.Description of Functional features This experiment is using a method whereby the light (thermal energy) is directed back upon the can of water from several different directions, increasing the efficiency. Considering that the reflecting of light cannot add nor remove power, the aluminium does not act to amplify. However, reproducing the rays using a mirror system replicates the power. Each individual ray mirrors the power of the original Sun s rays, but because there are multiple, a much stronger power source is gained. In addition to this, the rays are targeted better, so rather than a widespread area of one power level, there is a targeted point with that same power level. This method is seen frequently today. Look to Image 1.0 , for example, to see the Walkie Talkie building in London. The single worst designed building in history. Because of its reflective properties, it was able to heat the pavement below to around 60В°C, and severely damage cars, ranging from destroying the paintwork to actually melting parts wing mirrors, car insignias and varies panels. This building, it would seem, is very supportive of my experiment, proving that targeting the Sun s rays into one spot does prove to be more intensive. It doesn t, though, seem to like Londoners very much. The Walkie Talkie building is curved; however this experiment has 3 walls set up in somewhat of a half cube. This is shown in Diagram 1.0. Siam in the First World War At the outbreak of the war in August of 1914, which merely 4 years after ascending to the Throne in 1910, the King Vajiravudh monitoring and was well informed about development of the war in Europe. Prior to Siam joined the war the king Vajiravudh observed that Siam was geographically so remote from the war and he was rightly in thinking that it was wise for Siam to maintain strict and impartial neutrality. The reason behind this decision was due to the fact that there were danger signs of the threats to Siamese independence especially during the early years of the reign. As can be see from the last decade of nineteenth century Siam was the only independent country in the South East Asia that was surrounded by British and French colonies from east to west. The incident at Pak Nam , in 1893, in which French brought the gun boats from their colonies in Indo China to the Mae Nam and trained the guns on the King s Palace in Bangkok, were still fresh in the mine of people in Siam. As a result of this conflicted Siam had to cede to France the right bank of Mae Khong River which included Loung Pra Bang followed by the whole of Cambodiawhich included Phra Vuhear temple in 1907 after signed Entente Cordiale agreement of 1907. As well as these Siam also ceded Kedah, Kelanton, Trangkanu and Perlis to Britain in 1909. Until about 1910s Germany became a new competitor on colonial affairs, and show increased influence in Siam. • 13. Social Media And The Bystander Effect In April of 2017, a hardworking doctor was forced to leave and lugged off a plane for no apparent reason; soon after, a video of the incident was posted online, causing outrage throughout our media enhanced world. A woman s hopeless cry for help was not enough, and although several passengers recorded the horrific episode, no one intervened nor did anyone help the passenger that had been treated so awfully. Technology gives us emotional and physical comfort, whether that be in expressing feelings or chiming in on a controversial current event, in an age where social media has an immense impact on our habits on and off the web; yet in reality, our phones, computers, and tablets are turning us into active bystanders allowing and perhaps even amplifying the bystander effect. The diffusion of responsibilityis a poison that begins with cell phone usage and spreads to social media. Today, people are too reliant on technology and fail to comprehend that social media is not social activism. The Bystander Effect was first demonstrated by psychologists Bibb LatanГ© and John Darley in 1968, four years after the brutal murder (encompassing thirty or more witnesses) of Kitty Genovese. It is a social phenomenon in which observers believe that someone else in a group will intervene and offer help to a victim in need (1). According to these psychologists, there are two important factors attributed to this phenomenon, social influence and a perceived diffusion of responsibility. Social

During The Course Of This Class, We Identified Organized During the course of this class, we identified organized crime groups throughout the world to include the Unites States and our southern neighbor, Mexico. Narcotics trafficking, prostitution, extortion, and murder are a huge part of the illegal activities controlled by these various groups. The Great Influenza THE GREAT INFLUENZA The book The Great Influenza by John Barry takes us back to arguably one of the greatest medical disasters in human history, the book focuses on the influenza pandemic which took place in the year 1918. The world was at war in the First World War and with everyone preoccupied with happenings in Europe and winning the war, the influenza pandemic struck when the human race was least ready and most distracted by happenings all over the world. In total the influenza pandemic killed over a hundred million people on a global scale, clearly more than most of the deadliest diseases in modern times. John Barry leaves little to imagination in his book as he gives a vivid description of the influenza pandemic of 1918 and exactly how this pandemic affected the human race. The book clearly outlines the human activities that more or less handed the human race to the influenza on a silver platter. There was a war on, a war we had to win (Barry, p.337). An element of focus in the book is the political happenings back at the time not only in the United States of America but also all over the world and how politicians playing politics set the way for perhaps the greatest pandemic in human history to massacre millions of people. The book also takes an evaluator look at the available medical installations and technological proficiencies and how the influenza pandemic has affected medicine all over the world. The virus originated in Kansas despite it being known as the

The sky is a light blue color with not a cloud to be seen, just little blue birds flying high. The birds act as if they are famous for having the ability to fly. However, sometimes being famous isn t a path people want to live on. Some peoplethink of fame as a potion that can make you ill. Others believe that fame is a good thing, and they want to be famous. Some authors choose to write their idea of fame as a poem. Famous , by Naomi Shihab and Fame is a Fickle Food , by Emily Dickinson illuminate the idea of what fame really is. First, Famous , by Naomi Shihab and Fame is a Fickle Food , by Emily Dickinson are two very different poems. Fame is a Fickle Food says that fame isn t loyal and fame is bad. The author says that fame can kill you! However, Famous talks about how it is good to be famous to the people who are nice and kind. The author says she wants to be famous. We shall also examine how the system relates to the current production methods used in film making. The main issues raised within the text will be summarised concisely within the conclusion. Before a film reaches the cinema screen, and its audience it must go through a three stage process. Firstly and most obviously it has to be produced, following this it must then be distributed, and finally exhibited. Before the introduction of the studio system in the 1920s all of these processes were controlled separately. Although this gave the makers of films, such as directors and producers, room to express their creativity it placed a heavy constraint upon the amount of movies that could be made, and financial profits. However, despite Hollywood s uneasy birth, by the 1920s it had become one of the worlds leading film producers (Dirks, 2002). This was largely due to the introduction of the producer, or studio syste Cinema is a collaborative art so it is difficult to determine the influence of one particular person on a film. Well, there is a possibility that we could have come to what is now, but it would have most likely taken us years longer to establish. Along with Thomas Jefferson and Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry assisted in the formation of the VirginiaHouse of Burgesses. Patrick Henry was a great American orator, who delivered his most famous speech Give me Liberty , to the Second Virginia Convention, on March 23, 1775, at St. John s Church, in Richmond, Virginia. Patrick Henry preached with the intendancy of freeing Virginia from British colonial rule. He spoke with passion, which revealed his undeniable support for having the Virginia military involved in fighting against Britain, in the American Revolutionary War. Henry s use of ethos, logos, and pathos were very effective. They persuaded even some of his opponents to unite and fight for their independence. As Henry begins his speech he addressed the opposition with due respect, But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and therefore, I hope that it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen. By acknowledging the citizens with different viewpoints, Henry creates a connection with the colonists. He sees that he must show empathy and understanding in order to give the opposing side a chance to actually hear what he has to say. It goes without saying that Henry knows his

Shakespeare s Othello is a play dependably based on marital, internal and physical conflict and how it can negatively impact people s lives. Upon closer inspection, the conflict that exists throughout this play becomes clear that the conflict is the sole start for the destruction that occurs during the play. Throughout Othello, each character incites his own jealousy in one another to gain what they crave most; power. conflict becomes a prominent aspect of tragedy. internal conflict has the capacity to destruct the true morals of each character. Conflict stems from Iago s own craving of what others have and what he lacks. Internal conflict is demonstrated through Iago s emotion of jealousy. as Iago speaks to Roderigo about the moor, his sense of internal conflict is through Desdemona and Othello s marriage. For example, his quote, Despise me if I do not. Three great ones of the city in personal suit to make me his lieutenant off capped to him I am worth no worse a place . Acts to be a metaphor, emphasising his conflicted state of mind. Iago believes he deserves the position of lieutenant but Othello has a different opinion. This clearly shows Iago s hate for Othello because he is a man of power, something Iago desires. Due to Iago s jealousy Othello finds himself in the middle of Iago s plots causing a negative impact on Othello s life. This also impacts each related characters life as Iago is devious and back stabbing towards Othello. Due to Iago, conflict is shown to negatively dominate in people s lives. Conflict is the main theme Shakespeare explores in this play. Brabantio, Othello s father in law finds himself the root cause to many complications in Othello and Desdemona s marriage. This is marital conflict due to Brabantio causing issues between the married couple as he wants them separated. Brabantio begins to display his hate towards Othello when Othello announces his undying love for Desdemona Brabantio quoted o thou foul thief, where hast thou stowed my daughter? . • 24. The Possible Effects of Hydraulic Fracturing in Newfoundland This essay will examine the possible effects of hydraulic fracturing in Newfoundland. Hydraulic fracturing is the process of retrieving natural gas from the earth by injecting fluid into a borehole and pressurizing it, creating cracks in the rock. hydraulic fracturing fluid is made up of small beads of sand or ceramic, which prop open the cracks in the rock, as well as water and chemicals, which help suspend the proppants (sand or ceramic). The hydraulic fracturing fluid is pressurized, allowing the proppants to open up cracks in the bedrock, creating new cracks and releasing trapped methanegas. Methane gas is the primary ingredient of natural gas. Concerns about the safety of hydraulic fracturing stem from the borehole s permeation of natural fresh water aquifers, but supporters of hydraulic fracturing argue that the major improvements to the area s economy make the risks worthwhile. Newfoundland s economy is largely based on oil rigging and mines, but has recently seen a rise in tourism. The success of Newfoundland s tourism industry relies on the preservation of their natural environment, meaning that it could be destroyed by overuse of hydraulic fracturing. This essay will attempt to synthesise the environmental concerns and the economic benefits of hydraulic fracturing in order to reach a conclusion. hydraulic fracturing researchers have not reached a consensus on the effect of hydraulic fracturing on aquifers and the environment. hydraulic fracturing occurs

Without the skills of language, reading, and writing, children will have limited academic, economic, social, and emotional success in school and later in life (Maddox Fung, 2013, p.3). According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, 33% of U.S. students in elementary schools read below the basic readinglevel (NAEP, 2009). During this time, the Common Core initiative was in works to ensure that all students across America were graduating high school ready for college, career, and life. In 2010, a majority of the United States adopted the Common Core State Standards [CCSS]. Within these expectations the language, reading, and writing strands were developed for all grade levels. These three strands were developed to prepare children to become literate. The CCSS are the most effective way to implement goals for literacyeducation, for American students to succeed not only in school, but in the future. First, it is important to understand what it means to be literate and why being literate is important in today s society. To be literate today means much more than being able to read and write. For a child today, it means that they are better able to create, critique, and analyze material. It is important to obtain these skills due to the rise in technology. Conan Doyle uses uses a combination of literary devices to build up tension and create a sense of mystery I chapter 3 Doyle uses negative words and descriptions of the atmosphere with the motif of darkness to bring the reader into the mysterious and miserable atmosphere of a 19th century London. The case of Mary Morstan is presented to start on a September evening . This particular choice of month brings the reader into the cold, foggy and often miserable atmosphere of September. The atmosphere is highlighted by the sentence the day had been a dreary one,and a dense drizzly fog lay low upon the great city. Doyle uses alliteration as shown in dense drizzly to illustrate and intensify the imagery of London in the 19th century. The repetition of the d sounds can bring the reader onto a journey out into the city streets because they can remind us of the rolling of wheels such as the ones of the four wheeler Watson,Holmes and Miss Morstan travelled in, and suggest the thudding of horse hooves on the pavement which a Victorian audience would be very familiar with. Doyle gives hints of mystery by using the motif of fog and darkness. The combination of the two() creates a mysterious setting where nothing is clearly visible(under the cover of darkness )The word low implies that the mystery is very close to the ground on which Holmes stands on and suggests he alone is putting himself towards an unknown destination

John Hammond s Jurassic Park In an advancing world of genetics, a man named John Hammond has successfully used preserved DNA from the Jurassic period to bring life back to the dinosaurs on a secluded Costa Rican island. Furthermore, he plans to show his creations to the world in a new theme park which he has named Jurassic Park . Prior to the official opening, Hammond invites his grandchildren and experts Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm to get a full tour of his scientific masterpiece . After arrival, they are all amazed by the fact that not only has Hammond revitalized the tallest and smallest of dinosaurs in the exhibits, but also the fiercest with two Tyrannosaurus Rexes and multiple Velociraptors. Wonder of Hammond s feat soon turns to horror though as the management of the park goes awry. Those who survive the initial systems failures must regroup, now finding themselves trapped on an island full of sophisticated predators. One literary criticism states, Hammond believes that science s impressive logic and mechanical integrity can overcome the organic, often chaotic forces of nature, but human weakness, vulnerabilities in the technology , and above all the female dinosaurs unanticipated development of asexual reproduction all serve as a cautionary tale for our time (Hamilton and Jones). This quote from an article shows the idea that Jurassic Park was created on a highly technological basis and thought of as unstoppable by Hammond. It also shows reasoning that although it was advanced with a backing of science, it still failed greatly in the end . Reflection On Learning In Education Russell (2013) discusses the education of student teachers in depth, and supports Hebert s idea (2015) that reflections must be taught in conjunction with practical experience and that the two must be connected in order to lead the student to a higher level of understanding about their teaching. However, Russell (2013) also examines that reflection can lead to the wrong course of action if the practitioner misjudges the situation. So, in proceeding with different courses of action, there is the chance that there will be a counterproductive outcome if you choose the wrong way of acting. If you look at the impact this has on learning and on the child, it could be construed as a negative consequence of reflection. In the case of special needs children, it is difficult to measure what the lasting damage of an ill conceived course of action would have on the child. Russell (2013) analyses Zeichner s assertions (1996) that reflection on your own teaching is limited when you are training to be a teacher because you are more likely to observe and learn from more experienced teachers. Only when you have finished your training and begin working can you start to gain experience and begin to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Wegner et al ((2014) looked at Korthagen s ALACT model (1999) in their article which deals with making improvements in teaching. They discuss the relevance of reflective competence which involves linking theory and practice to become subjective about

Increasing climates have been proven; with the warmest temperatures in 30 years being recorded (Houghton, 1994). The Carbon Cycle consists of the vital components for all animal and plant lives. It is primarily a reflection on primary and secondary production (Krebs, 2009). As seen in Figure 2, carbon levels have not been constant throughout history. Figure 3 represents the basic components of the Carbon cycle. The diagram shows that the oceans are the largest sink of carbon, and is at a constant equilibrium of atmospheric CO2 and aqueous CO2. The increase in atmospheric CO2 levels causes ocean acidification by decreasing the pH of the oceans. PH values are said to have dropped by 0.1pH units since pre industrial levels and are expected to drop a further 0.3 units by the end of the 20th century (Scott C Doney, 2007). This chemical change will have knock on affects in many marine ecosystems, which will be discussed later. The Federal Ministry of Education plays a dominant role in regulating the education sector, engaging in policy formation and ensuring quality control. However, the federal government is more directly involved with tertiary education than it is with school education, which is largely the responsibility of state (secondary) and local (primary) governments. The education sector is divided into three sub sectors: basic (nine years), post basic/senior secondary (three years), and tertiary (four to seven years, depending on the major or course of study). Education in Nigeria is provided by public and private institutions. Education is placed on the concurrent legislative list in the 1999 constitution that provides the legal framework for educational management in Nigeria. The Character of Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire Animals are, by nature, passionately instinctive; that is, when reacting to a situation, they do so forcefully and spontaneously. Therefore, we can think of passionate instinct as an intense, innate reaction to a particular situation. Animals also lack what we call inhibition the suppression of a natural drive, instinct or feeling. For instance, when a skunk senses danger, it will not restrain its natural, defensive reaction and will not hesitate to spray a foul smelling substance in the direction of the danger for self protection. When cattle sense a threat to their environment, they do not try to rationalize their way to safety they stampede. If a bull s passions are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stanley seems to be what we would consider a typical man: he works to support his wife, whom he loves dearly; he gets together with his friends to play cards or go bowling, and he seems to think of himself as the king of his castle . However, he is also seen as being animalistic in nature, as he, too, is ruled by passionate instinct. We can think of him as being animalistic because his reaction to various situations for instance, his reaction when Stella breaks up his card game (I, iii, 57) is often intense, violent, and very instinctive in nature. However, animals also become threatened and often react in a savage, violent way in order to defend themselves. When Stanley learns of his wife s loss of Belle Reve, he reacts in the same way that an animal would when a threat to its family is sensed; Stanley reacts with growing hostility and violent, uncivilized behavior. He instantly believes that Blanche, his sister in law, has swindled his wife, Stella. Since he thinks that Stella has been swindled, he feels that he, too, has been swindled. When Stella tells him not to question Blanche about Belle Reve, we can clearly see that he has become hostile towards Blanche: So that s the deal, huh? Sister Blanche cannot be annoyed with business details right now (I, ii, 34). He then becomes defensive, searching through Blanche s property, becoming angry towards
  • 50. The Victorian Era Throughout history, cultures and societies across the globe have used monsters or any sort of creature to exemplify anxieties and fears that they have. The same can be said for works of literature and art. These authors use these anxieties, personify them, and use them to exaggerate the fears of the readers. In short, the monsters/creatures that are created in each literary era depict and personify the biggest fears and viewpoints of the society that it was written in. In the case of the Victorian/Romantic era in British Literature, many authors discuss the many different feelings about science and the role of women at the time. Both the Romantic and Victorian eras of English history were product of the scientific developments that occurred during these periods of history. The Romantic era was the response that artists, authors, and society in general had from the Age of Reason (or Enlightenment), where the major philosophers and scientists of the day believed that humans could change through rational ways of thinking. These Romantic writers chose the supernatural or miracles over the scientific method as well as passion over reason. Similarly, the Victorian era was marked by major discoveries and writings such as Charles Lyell s Principles of Geology and Charles Darwins Origin of Species and The Decent of Man . These works terrified the growing Evangelical movement because they were frightened at the notion of the human species sharing an ancestor with primates,

In my opinion the only way to take down this organization is to begin to treat it like the state that it is. ISIS has not only gained territory in Syria, Iraq and Istanbul but according to New York Times columnist, Tim Arango, ISIS is building a capacity to govern. The quality, intensity and direction of lighting can influence an audience s understanding of a films characters, actions, themes and mood. The colour of the lighting can also hold thematic relevance like in the film Kill Bill Volume 1 where one of the crazy 88 members run through a red hallway. This red is used throughout the entire film and represents danger (Kill Bill Volume 1, 2003). This explanation is supported by the fact that the antagonists of the scene all emerge from this red hallway proving the danger. Highlighted lighting in a film, for example, call attention to shapes and textures, while shadows often conceal things, creating a sense of mystery or fear. For this reason, lighting must be thoroughly planned in advance to ensure its desired effect on an audience. Lighting can make a scene feel happy, sad, mysterious or even dangerous hence furthering the concept portrayed in a film without even needing dialogue from the actors. Lighting in its entirety plays a huge role in the aesthetic of a film as it creates the context furthering the concept in which the entire film happens (G., 2000). It has an impact on acting, production design, costuming, editing, makeup, visual effects, the plot and
