The Mono-Genetic Model Of Obesity
Studies in animals have also suggested that obesity has a genetic component. Several mono
genetic and poli genetic models of obesity are based on animals. These models are used to
stimulate what happens when some chemicals are not produced (like leptin in the ob ob mouse),
or when some receptors (like leptin receptors) are reduced or malfunctioning. The set point theory
(Kennedy 1953: Nisbett, 1972) states that after dieting to reduce body weight, an animal eats more
and is less dependent on short term satiety signals. Fifty three percent of adult dogs and fifty five
percent of cats considered overweight or obese by their veterinarian, according to the American
Veterinary Medical Association. After over feeding to increase body weight,... Show more content

Globalisation has created conditions, which contributes to the consumption of high energy
foods. In addition, the availability of cheap fast food from all around the world with the
advertising from multinationals such as McDonalds has resulted in pressures which have led to
a growth in the consumption of energy rich food among the poor. It is difficult to argue that
obesity is a social condition, which negatively affects those in low paid and short term jobs. It is
obvious to say, obesity does have a significant biomedical component. What happens inside the
body after you have eaten your Big Mac clearly requires psychological/biochemical explanation.
Thus, to conclude, there has been a combination of both social and biological factors which have
contributed to the growing cases of obesity which is putting a strain on our health budgets (ten
percent of the total NHS budget is allocated to obesity and related illnesses), creating many early
deaths, and even lowering peoples self esteems. By 2060, sixty percent of men, fifty percent of
women, and twenty five percent of children are likely to be obese. Obesity is a worldwide
epidemic which needs to be dealt with appropriately. There are many ways to tackle obesity. The
WHO s 1997 interim report argues that it is not enough to tackle obesity at individual level and
that a society wide public health approach needs to be employed. This includes better and much
improved medical profession, the government working with the food industry to promote a
healthier diet for everyone from childhood to adults, and also more information provided to the
public about illnesses such as obesity and ways of maintaining weight loss by promoting
sustainable changes

BP s Consideration of Outsourcing IT
One of the most important forces of outsourcing is that organizations do not have gain the needed
and required sources internally. And they have a difficulty in integrating and attracting expertise,
where outsources own capabilities on a global level, modern technologies and other required
resources. Also, by outsourcingthe cost of keeping employees and consultants for short term is
reduced. Furthermore, outsourcers are able to offer better career opportunities for business IT
staff if they decide to transit to the outsourcer. As the manager of BP Company viewed the main
reason of BP Company outsourcing is that it has become increasingly apparent that service
companies provide us with technical skills and ideas that we could no longer develop inside our
own company (Kremis, 2006).
5. Risks and Opportunities Associated with IT Outsourcing
Various previous studies viewed outsourcing concept and have tried to explain its fact including
challenges, risks, motivation, and determinates. Where, the decision of outsourcing is usually seen
as logical and rational decision by senior management with prediction to gain various benefits and
avoid the expected risks. So, both side of outsourcing should be noticed and taken into
considerations when deciding to take any outsourcing decision, below explanation of these
opportunities as well as risks associated with IT outsourcing, according to (Kremis, 2006; Mui,

Amoco began its life as a part of John D. Rockefeller s powerful Standard Oil Trust. Incorporated
in 1889 as the Standard Oil Company (Indiana), the company s first challenge was to build a
refinery in Whiting, Indiana, specially designed to handle high sulphur crude oil from a field near
Lima, Ohio.
In 1912, a year after dissolution of the Rockefeller Trust, company scientist William Burton and
his colleague, Robert Humphreys, received a patent for the thermal cracking process that doubled
the yield of gasoline from a barrel of crude oil, while also boosting its octane rating. Headquartered
in Chicago, Illinois, Standard Oil of Indiana remained the company s name until April of 1985 when
it became Amoco, reflecting a growing international presence.

Crude Oil Last 10 Years
INTRODUCTION
The role of petroleum products in our lives is unquestionable. It is safe to say that oil is the
cornerstone of our civilization. A pessimist might argue that without oil our industrial society will
collapse and there will be rapid decline in the world population. But again that is a pessimist s
view, personally we would like to think that we will in near future find other energy sources on
which we can depend and build our civilization to reach the next milestone.
In this report we have tried to highlight the fluctuations of crude oil during the period of 2001 10.
The scope of this report is limited only to this period as we believe that events that took place
during this decade had the potential to change the oil game so ... Show more content on

Thus the oil market participants producers, refiners, marketers, and traders would not have one of
their bases for setting prices in their contracts and other transactions. It does not appear that the oil
industry was materially affected by the closing of the Nymex, which, in any event, resumed all
operations in about one week. While the immediate effect of the attacks on petroleum markets was
to drive prices up, market forces reflecting little change in supply and demand acted quickly, and
crude oil prices eased within little more than a week. Average crude oil prices paid by U.S.
refiners actually declined for the month of September 2001 falling to $20.82 per barrel from $24.08
in the previous month.
2002:
After moving lower in 2001, crude oil prices moved higher in 2002 reaching over $30 per barrel
in September 2002. Higher prices were supported by a number of factors. One was the ongoing
U.S. war on terrorism and rising tensions with Iraq. There was the likely potential that military
action would be taken against Iraq that would disrupt the supply of crude oil to the market. With
that issue still not settled as 2002 drew to a close, crude oil prices continued to find support.
While there were factors supporting higher prices, there were also factors working against them.
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) after a meeting in 2001 agreed that
production of oil would be cut. The

Comparing Theories Of Children Learn And Develop And How...
The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast two theorists on how children learn and
develop and how their theories work in the early years setting. Piaget and Skinner are both very
well known for their theories, they contrast each other as one shows the behaviourist view while
the other shows the cognitive view. Piaget is a nativist, he believes that children learn best
through active learning, doing for themselves. Whereas Skinner is an empiricist he believes that
children s knowledge is learnt from their sense experience and environment. Jean Piaget was
born on 9th August 1896 in Switzerland. He studied natural sciences at the University of
Neuchatel where he received a Ph.D. He then went onto the University of Zurich where he
became interested in psychoanalysis. It was from there he went onto the Sorbonne University in
Paris in 1919 to study clinical psychology. It was while Piaget was in Paris that he began working
with Alfred Binet marking intelligence tests. It was whilst working on the intelligence tests that he
became aware of the process of cognitive development and how it differed considerably from
young children to older children to adults. It was from this that he then began his study on the
process of thinking in the development of children. (The famous people, 2016) He constructed his
theory from observing his children, it was from these observations that he established his four
stages of development and schemas; schemas are a set of ideas that

Athenian Democracy Vs American Democracy Essay
Riot is the language of the of the unheard. Back around the time 430B.C. democracy was beginning
to be developed. Surprisingly, like all great things it took time and is still taking time to perfect to
this day. Democracy is not a system of government that is unchanging it is, matter of fact,
constantly up for change and perfection. In comparing Athenian and American democracy, they are
very different however some aspects are the same. The similarities include citizens were allowed to
vote for their leader(s). However, the definition of a citizen is completely different now that it was
then. A citizen back then was a male landowner in Athens, on the other hand, citizens now days are
people that are born within the country or have parents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also lessens the power of the people within the current democracy and its makes it where if
your elected official does not agree with the law he will not submit the law for debate and
passage. Making the elected official in more of a power position than the people. When democracy
was officially built on the power of the people not the power of high ranking officials, therefore,
ruining the whole point of having a democracy in the first place. Another difference between the
two democracies is that in the Athenian democracy, the people who were able to vote were taught
and given a proper education, unlike today where everyone can vote, whether they are educated
or not. In Athenian time you had to be a boy who was most likely to become a landowner. This
eliminated the chances for advancement in technology significantly and made the process of
evolution slow down even more. Likewise, now days everyone is given an education. Rich, poor,
white or black everyone is given equal opportunity to pursue an education. If they choose to is all
up to them. In conclusion when comparing and contrasting American Democracy today and
Athenian Democracy in 430B.C. there are many similarities and many differences. The effects and
outcomes of each democracy are almost the same. Overall democracy is democracy in the end and
deep down it is all the

The Life Of Faye G. Abdellah
In life one has to take risks in order to bring forth a vision to life. Through risk taking, Faye G.
Abdellah achieved her inner most dreams which was furthering the science of nursing research.
Faye was a pioneer nursing researcher that helped transform nursing theory, nursing care and
nursing education. In 1960, she was influenced by the desire to promote patient centered
comprehensive nursing care. Abdellah described nursing as a service to individuals, to families
and therefore to the society. She was a rebel from the start in her efforts to promote nursing.
Through time, she learned to disguise her rebellious leadership methods under the title politically
correct. Even when faced with setbacks Faye continued to persevere and thrive for change (Houser
Player, 2004).
Furthermore, a team leader is someone who inspires, mentors, guides, thrives for change and sets
an example. Throughout Faye s life she demonstrated strong team leadership styles such as her
remarkable courage and determination for pursuing her vision. The courageous risks she took in
her leadership roles were all in an effort to bring about change in nursing and improve patient care
throughout the world. For example, during a visit to the San Diego long term care facility Faye
noticed statutory violations and other evidence of substandard care. During her opening of the
conference of the American Health Care Association, she announced to them that the lack of patient
care was unacceptable in the homes

Alice Monroe Boys And Girls
How would you react when someone forces expectations on to you that you disagree with?
Would you try to reason with them, or just give in and act the way they expect of you? In the
short story Boys and Girls by Alice Monroe has a girl go through and answer that question in her
story. At first disagreeing, after being pressures by the people in her family she gives in to the
ideas that others had set on her. The life of the narrator conveys the idea that an individual may
have to conform to the rolls society sets on them.
At first, the narrator disagrees with how her family expects her to be. Specifically, her mother
expectations, as she is the most direct stating I just get my back turned and she runs off. It s not
like I had a girl in the family at all. The narrator instead of working with her mother inside their
house prefers to work out doors in her father s fox farm. Directly conflicting with how her mother

Flora breaks away before they were going to kill her. The narrator s is called by her dad to close
the gate out of the field into the town, but she doesn t. As she reaches it, she opens up the gate
as wide as she can and can t tell her self why. Monroe is using this moment to symbolize her
tipping point, where she stops rebelling and give ins. When she opens the gate it symbolizes her
will to ignore the pressure being set on her leaving. At night what was her favorite time of the
day changes. When she tells her self stories at they start the same, but end up focusing on how
long her hair was, or what kind of dress she had. They no longer have the same excitement they
once had. As the story ends they find out that she was the one that let flora out. The narrator
remarks her change in view when they call her just a girl by saying I didn t protest that, even in

thrilled to hear that, so I chose several of my great friends. I was really excited to find out which
challenge our team would be doing this year. We finally decided that we wanted to do the Fine
Art Challenge. In this challenge we had to make someone have a phobia. We researched what a
phobia is and the different types of phobias. Our favorite one that we found was candiphobia, it
means the fear of candy. We had great ideas for this challenge so we just let loose and
brainstormed until we knew just what to do. My friend and I were gymnasts, so we knew that
we could choreograph a short routine. Her dad was a builder and we knew we had to incorporate
some illusion, so he taught us about the different things, overall we decided to make an infinity

The Broadway Musical Hamilton By Lin Manuel Miranda
Oftentimes people have a difficult time connecting with history. They do not see the relevance
between something hundreds of years ago and today s issues. The Broadway musical Hamilton by
Lin Manuel Miranda does a great job of bridging that gap. Many of the issues that were faced in the
time period of Alexander Hamiltonare also faced in the world today. An example of this is
politicians riding the fence on important issues. A main character in the play is criticized greatly
for doing this just as people are currently. In Miranda s Hamilton, characters are faced with issues
and are asked to take a stand just as political leaders are today. Hamilton had a rough childhood
and did not have many opportunities where he came from. His family, friends, and neighbors
decided that he needed to go to the mainland to get an education. It was then that he was able to
make a name for himself and he began to climb the social and political ladders. If Hamilton
would have stayed in his hometown he would not have been able to do anything that he
accomplished in his life. The world we live in today is having to make similar decisions. With
the Olympics going on currently, viewers are learning many new facts about athletes from around
the world. Andre De Grasse, for example, is originally from Ontario Canada. He proved that he is
one of the fastest men in the world when he won bronze in the 100 meter final. De Grasse has

Comparison Of Jesus In The Lion, The Witch, And Thewardrobe
two theives on the cross. While in the Bible the theives also die, Susan and Lucy do not go all the
way with him to the execution. Also, they watch his painful torture and death.
In the Bible, the Romans taunt and beat Jesus before he is forced to carry the cross. In The Lion,
the Witch, and theWardrobe, the White Witch s followers taunted him, bound him, and beat him
before his execution (Lewis The Lion, the Witch, and theWardrobe 153 154). The difference
between the two was that Jesus was never bound and Christ was nailed to a cross, not stabbed with
a dagger. These differences are there so that Lewis can show that the execution was not Christian
but pulled from other sacrificial religions.
When Jesus died on the cross, the devil assumed he had won Earth and that he could now take
over unchallenge. The White Witch had a similar theme going through her head before she killed
Aslan. Lewis wrote Understand that you have given me Narnia forever, you have lost your own
life and you have not saved his ( The Lion, the Witch, and theWardrobe 155). The White Witch
assumed that since she was about to kill Aslan she would have Narnia all to herself and she would

Two Opposing Powers
I recently read two articles concerning the topics of science and religion. Chet Raymo, author of
Miracles and Explanations, offers insight on how science and religion are closely related while
David Ludden, author of Teaching Evolution at a Christian College , declares that science and
religion are too contradicting from one another and that people are unwilling to open their minds to
new ideas once they have established their beliefs (Raymo Ludden, 2011). This is a topic that has
had controversy surrounding it for an innumerable amount of years dating back to ancient times
when the Catholic Church ruled Europe to present times where we have to decide if we want our
children learning about Darwin s theory of evolution because it might... Show more content on

Mr. Ludden closes by stating one strategy science teachers use to capture the interest of their
students. He uses the analogy of a drug pusher giving away drugs for free until the client is hooked
and then starts charging them for more. He states that this method doesn t work because science
doesn t produce the high religion does and that at the end of the day it is up to the student to decide
whether they want to accommodate science with their faith (Raymo Ludden, 2011, p. 702 704).
Mr. Raymo uses a Rogerian style in his writing because he is trying to build common ground in
his argument. He starts by talking about miracles and how we are taught fake stories when we
are young. This is something majority of people can relate to. Then he explains how as we get
older we acknowledge these miracles as lies because we disprove them scientifically. He also
mentions that the concepts of science are miracles and based on that scientists form theories. So
far his reasoning is logical. This helps his argument because more people will appeal to logical
reasoning. He also provides strong evidence of religion and science working together when he
writes about the experiment done on the Shroud of Turin. The Church officials allowed three
distinct labs to use carbon dating to discover the age of the cloth. The findings were supported by
the Church, and Pope John Paul II went on to speak of the relationship of science and religion,

The Prophet Muhammad Of The Islamic Faith
A person whose character has played a major role in history and continues to influence people
worldwide is the Prophet Muhammad, the last prophet in the Islamic faith. There are many
misconceptions about Muhammad, but if you were to ask any Muslim living now or at his time
for one fact about him, they would tell you that he was a man of character. Even before given
revelation from God through Angel Gabriel, Muhammadwas known through Mecca as the Truthful
and the Trustworthy. He was born an orphan and was brought up by family relatives. Muhammad s
character shows his endurance through the toughest of times. As Islamspread, more and more
people converted simply because they were mesmerized by Muhammad s character. He didn t just
preach the religion, he actually lived it. Three major characteristics of the ProphetMuhammad were
that he was kind, loving, and patient. Muhammad was a known for his kindness, making him
someone people could confide in and trust. One example of when the Prophet Muhammad
demonstrated kindness was the story about his neighbor. There was once a woman who lived next
door to Muhammad. This woman was cruel and would dump trash on his doorstep every day. The
trash would cut and bruise his bare feet, but he never complained to her. One morning, there was
no trash on Muhammad s doorstep. The Prophet became concerned and went next door. He was
told that she was very ill. Saddened by this, he went home and returned to his neighbor s house with

The Tea Of Tea Masters
In Japan, much of the art that is popular today has been made popular by the endorsement that tea
masters have given it. Tea masters are highly regarded in Japan and they have a large influence
on what becomes popular and what is remembered. A tea master may say that a piece of art has
significance and their word means a great deal. The TeaCeremony, also known as chanoyu, has
long been a tradition in the Japanese culture. It is defined as a ritualized, secular practice in which
tea is consumed in a specialized space with a codified procedure. It is an elaborate ceremony that
has been performed since the Edo Period in the seventeenth century. It is related to both the Samurai
culture and Zen Buddhism. Tea schools exist to teach the ways of... Show more content on

These utensils are used in the preparation of the tea. The movements used for the cleaning of the
utensils are delicate but deliberate and are performed with great concentration. Once the tools are
purified, the thick tea is prepared in a bowl. The guests will be drinking out of the same bowl.
The tea whisk is used to whisk the thick tea. Once the tea is prepared then the bowl is placed
facing the guests. The first guests picks up the bowl and the linen cloth and takes a sip from the
bowl. The guest expresses their pleasure in the tea and continues to drink until they have taken their
designated amount of tea. They then wipe the bowl where their lips touched and pass it to the next
guest. When finished the utensils are taken to the preparation room marking the end of the tea
ceremony. The guests bow and then leave the tea room.
The Japanese Tea ceremony is a secular ritual known for becoming popular in the Edo Period of
Japan. The Japanese Tea Ceremony is a ritual that takes place in the tea house. The tea house
was a place that was meant for Zen practice. It is an intimate affair held between small groups of
people. The Samurais were one of the first social groups to be associated with the Tea ceremony.

highly favorable to the development of Teaism (Okakura). Japan used its isolation in order to

hysteria in Salem Village and Salem Town. Though the exact day and month is uncertain,
historians can claim that the trials emerged in early 1692 and came to a close in 1693. The Salem
Witch Trials started in 1692 with more than one hundred fifty people being accused of practicing
witchcraft, and the trials finally ended with the courts declaring there was no evidence in the cases
being tried, and the Governor stopped the trials because his wife was accused.... Show more content

Also, ergot is known to cause gangrene which causes tissue to die in parts of the body and often
results in limbs becoming numb and turning black. Logically speaking, it would have been
recorded somewhere that there were several individuals with black limbs if the ergot theory
were true. After the doctor s analysis, the townspeople then gathered up all of the girls with the
symptoms. The collected girls accused three women: Sarah Good, an odd homeless woman who
lived the streets of Salem Village, Sarah Osborne, who had married her servant and rarely
attended the church meetings, and Tituba, an Indian slave from Barbados who was in service of
Reverend Samuel Parris. Sarah Good and Sarah Osborne denied the accusations, while Tituba
confessed, and claimed there were multiple other witches working by her side in Salem. This
started the hysterical beginning of the Salem Witch trials, which resulted in many women, men,
and children being accused of practicing witchcraft. Out of the one hundred fifty people accused
in Salem, twenty of them were executed as witches, while others rotted away and died in jail. The
people of Salem did not discriminate who they executed or who they sent to jail so the result was
a diverse range of citizens being accused. Nineteen of the twenty executed were hanged on Gallows

Sportsmanlike Behavior
Throughout my time as a high school student, I have learned the importance of sportsmanlike
behavior. While participating in athletic and academic programs, I have found that good
sportsmanship is what makes a good program and a good student athlete. It requires you to not
only look out for yourself but also to look out for the well being of others, both on your team and
on the opposing team. It is important to possess positive sportsmanship because you learn to care
for and help others regardless of differences, which is a quality that is beneficial in an academic
setting, athletics, and life as a whole.
During my high school career, I have demonstrated good sportsmanship while participating in
various extracurricular activities, such as the National Honor Society, diversity club, rocket
cheerleading, track, competitive cheer, and sideline cheer. The activity that allowed me to show my
extreme dedication and sportsmanship the most, was volunteering for rocket cheer. While
participating in rocket cheer, I had the opportunity to coach 1st graders on the different cheers ...

Their sportsmanlike behavior taught me that winning or earning an A in school isn t the most
important thing. The knowledge gained and memories made during the journey are more valuable
than whatever prize you may receive. I have found that this sportsmanlike frame of mind teaches
you how to respond to others in an empathetic manner. For example, in sports you are not always
on the winning side; when you are on the winning team you can still respond to people who lost in
a compassionate manner. Meanwhile, if you are on the losing side you can respond with happiness
at the success of others because you can acknowledge that something was still gained. It is also
about watching others succeed from your assistance and how you pass down what you have learned

The Text as Theology
In its original cultic sitz im leben, where the psalm would have been sung in antiphon, the
exhortation would have been directed toward the congregation in the liturgy, whereby they
would respond with the second part of each verse, the whole assembly telling the wondrous story
of YHWH s salvation of Israel. We too can join in this choral liturgy, seeing the thread that is
drawn from the pillars of the earth at creation, through Israel s history, to Christ s cross and
resurrection, even to our own day where we continue to see the salvation of YHWH in our midst.

everything YHWH has done, and continues to do for His people. The cross and resurrection were
not the last of His marvelous works, but YHWH has continued to act in the life of the church these

Home Can Be A Country
The definition of home is a subjective topic that I will only be able to touch the rim of for the word
goes far beyond what is written. Home can be a lot of different things. Home can mean a whole lot
of things to a whole lot of people. It can be the place the you grew. It can be the place where you
sleep at night. Home can be here and there. Home can quite frankly be anywhere. Home can be a
structured place with a roof and a bed. Home can be a place you just stepped into or in can be a
place you have lived your entire life. Home can be a country, a state, a city, or a street address.
Home can be a person or group of people, and your home consists of wherever they are. Home
can simply be your family. It can be where you are most comfortable or at peace. It can be where
your heart longs to be or where it in the literal since is at. Home can be many different things. So,
what is the definitionof home?
The definition of home is first taught to us in early childhood as the idea of it being a house,
apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household. However,
in early childhood we would just simply say home is my house and the two words were used
interchangeably. When you type into the Google search bar, home, Google immediately asks below,
where s home? It has a slot to type in your address. To Google, home is the location of your house
in which you live. However, in my belief home is not as simple as that. Home is a concept of where

Understanding and Treating Depression
Americans are obsessed with happiness, yet increasingly depressed. A dominant theme in our
society is that you should be happy, and if you are not, there is something wrong with you. Life
can be difficult at times and people do not seem to realize that everyone has different circumstances.
There are about 15 million Americans that battle the disease of depression. Our society is in the
throes of a virtual epidemic of depression (Psychology today). Depression is the most common
illness seen in all of medicine and people still have problems knowing what depression actually is
such as its actual meaning, causes, different types, the symptoms and how they ... Show more

When one is depressed it brings them down and they only seem to see the negative in
everything. They block out all the good. People become sad and start to feel helpless about
many situations. When a person stops doing what they do in normal basis, such as work or
school, the depression seems to increase. Even though the free time is for them to enjoy they
will seldom feel enthusiasm, even for things they use to look forward to (Center). The causes of
depression vary from physical/biological, some are psychological and some grow out of the
situation. Most of the times it happens to be a combination of all. A serious loss, chronic illness,
difficult relationship, bereavement, financial problem or any unwelcome change in lifestyle or
patterns can also trigger a depressive episode. Some people are physically and biologically more
at risk for depression because of biological vulnerability to depression can be inherited. Other
factors are the possibility or stressful environment and other psychosocial factors (Center).
Along depression there are symptoms; symptoms are the side effects of the illness. Symptoms are
in action when depressed and they are able to last for days, months even years when depression
goes untreated (Center). There are many symptoms that people can experience and some may not
experience them at all. Depression can cause physical symptoms such

born in Paris on April 11, 1913 to the Count and Countess Cassini, his grandfather being the

turned out to be very similar in many ways. As a child he spent most of his life traveling from
Russia, Denmark, and Copenhagen due to his father s occupation. When he became a young adult
his dream was to become a soldier or diplomat. He was unable to fulfill his dream when the

People don t like to bring family or friends over while they are on vacation just to feed their fish.
I would suggest going to a fish store and picking up items you need a few days before you go on
vacation. You will either need to buy fish feeders or you will need to buy automatic fish feeders
and put fish flakes inside of them. They will turn every day and feed the fish flakes while you
are gone. You need to remember to keep the feeders on the opposite sides of the bubbler or they
will clog with water and the fish feeder will stop working. You will need to take a look at your
fish before you leave for vacation. If you notice that their fins are torn or they have white
speckles on their gills or fins you will need to give them medication for fin rot and ich. Make
sure that your bubbler, filter and heaters are working properly before you leave for vacation. If
your power goes out the filter may kick back on along with everything else. I wouldn t suggest
putting everything on a plug in that can be shut off with a button because your other animals,
dogs and cats, can shut off the power strips and cut off bubblers and filters. You will want to
change the water at least 20 percent before you leave for vacation. You can purchase feeders
which you put in your tank which last up to 2 weeks but I would grab several of them. Put them
in areas away from bubblers so that they don t disperse as fast. The 3 days feeders are usually
gone in one day. Fish can go a few days without eating but you can t leave them alone for weeks
without feeding your fish. You will need to give them quite a bit of food before you leave but
don t give them a lot of excess food because it will make the water cloudy and all the levels in the
fish tank will go up while you are gone. You will need to purchase either fish feeders you place in
the bottom of the tank or automatic fish feeders which spin on the top of the tank. If you buy

Persuasive Speech On Alien Invades
Have you ever read or watched a movie where aliens attack and invade and take over the world?
If you like that well then you should know that it s real. Not real in the way that there are actual
aliens but species are acting like aliens which means they are invasive. If we don t help solve the
problem then who else will? We are the only ones who can solve the problem. An example of an
invasive speciestaking over are alien invasions. In any alien invasion movie or book aliens come
to a planet invade it and try to take it over. That is pretty much what invasive species do. But
instead of killing or fighting for an area, they breed and eventually overpopulate that area which
then pushes away other species to live. This causes many native species to either go extinct or
leave that area. This is exactly what the European starlings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

About sixty European starlings were released into New York s Central Park in 1890 by Eugene

Canada and Alaska, and southward into Central America (Maine gov Par1). There are now an
estimated 150 million starlings in the United States alone.
We need to stop this invasion but why exactly should we stop this? If we don t make a change
many species will die. This will not be easy, and it will take many resources. So if we wait long
enough nature could just sort itself out. But that will take a long time and is very risky.
Though doing nothing about the invasion is easy and less resourceful it has many problems. If
we do nothing we are putting many species existence at stake and it would also be sad to not fix
a problem we have created. Also doing nothing could possibly not work and instead help the
starlings grow and populate even more. This is why we should fix the problem and not do

The Paternity Of Maternity Leave Essay
Lately, both mothers and fathers have been requesting more time off of work after their baby has
been born to bond and spend more time with them. Most business work places have not accepted
their request and have made the desired parent of that child to come back to work as quickly as
possible, even if that time spent with their baby is more important. Paternity/Maternity leaveis
important and has a tremendous amount of impact on that child and how they will act in the
future, which is why that time after birth should be extended to a set amount of time of one year.
Paternity leave is the time that a father is allowed to be away from work after the birth of his
child(Paternity Leave 1). Maternity leave is the time when a motheris allowed to be away from
work after the birth of her child. Both are equally as important. According to Gretchen Livingston,
a researcher at a University, the U.S. is the only country among 41 nations that does not mandate
any paid leave for new parents(Livingston 1). The United States, not having an exact set time, but
the average amount of weeks given to the mother or father after their baby s birth to spend time
with them is 12 weeks, which is also unpaid. Businesses need to extend the time they give to
mothers and fathers after their baby is born. One of the many problems that comes with the
average of 12 weeks of not having enough time to spend with your baby after birth is that baby then
becomes unattached to everyone and often feels

REFLECTION as per EPM 2092 study notes provided by Bob, Control quality is a process
monitoring and recording the results of execution of quality activities to access the performance
and recommending necessary changes. In other words, during quality control process the project
team will analyze project results (which includes both deliverables and the management processes
followed) to meet the specific quality standards and if something is wrong (that means it is not
meeting the quality standards set by the stakeholders and organization as written in project
management plan) then make it under control by taking corrective, preventive or defect repair
action. In addition to this we will to make use of quality tools and techniques which will help us to
analyze if the project results are meeting the quality standards.

DVT can develop by lying in bed for long periods of time. Therefore, hospitalized patients have a

mistake while filing your taxes, then you have a higher chance of being audited. Below is a list of
mistakes that may trigger an audit:
Math Mistakes
It is estimated that there were 2.3 million math errors on tax returns in 2013. That is why it is a
good idea to double check all of the calculations before you submit your tax return. You should also
make sure you put the data in the right box. Electronically filing your taxes and using tax

Too Many Deductions
If you have your own business, then you may be entitled to certain deductions. However, excessive
deductions may trigger an audit. Many people who have a home office claim their a part of their
mortgage or rent payment and utility bills as business expenses on their tax return.
However, there are requirements for claiming your home office as a business expense. The home
office must used be exclusively used for business purposes. The deductions that you are able to get
may not be that large. You will not benefit from claiming a lot of expenses on your tax return, and
it may also make the IRS suspicious.
Not Filing A Return Or Reporting No Income
If you do not file a tax return, then you may be contacted by the Internal Revenue Service. They

Bournemouth: Tourism growth when not planned cautiously can result in the degradation of the

land use changes rather than pollution or species exploitation. (Woodrow et al 1996). The quality of
the Dorset heathlands has been affected by urbanization (land being relatively cheaper for urban
development), poor management practices, and afforestation. In the 19th century, Bournemouth
was a fishing settlement, with 695 inhabitants, however, it has grown significantly and in 1995, it
had 160.000 inhabitants. Recently, there has been a great pressure from housing, transports
infrastructures such as roads and tourism related construction. There needs to be a greater emphasis
on making a more efficient use of land within the urban areas (Bournemouth Housing Strategy
2003 2006, Published in 2002). Also, there is great concentration of people in the urban area of the

Mr. Williams And The Music Of Music And Film
John Williams once said so much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by
ourselves, so it s gratifying to have something you have done linger in people s memories and
linger it did. Mr. Williams has made significant contributions to the arts of music and film. To fully
understand the gravity of his achievements and their affect on humanity, we must first look at the
progression of sound in film; the effect music has in film and its audience; and lastly his
accomplishments of music and film.
In the infancy of film, movies were silent but not without sound. To make film a more pleasant
experience, music was provided to cover up the ambient noise of the projector and help create an
agreeable atmosphere, often by the use of a solo piano. (Fischoff, S. (2005)). The musician
generally improvised playing mostly a variety of popular romantic and melodramatic scores of the
late nineteenth century (such as William Tell Overture, Ride of the Valkyrie, Les Preludes, etc.) as
long as it accompanied the action/scene or enhanced the mood (for dramatic effect). ( From Scene
to Shining Screen: A Short History of Film Music . para. 1 2. (n.d.)). As film grew in popularity and
length, so did the musical accompaniment adding instruments to the ensemble until even some
theaters were housing full orchestras. By the end of the silent era, the industry had completely
shifted from the all purpose improve music of the solo pianist, to exact musical scores written

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Traditional Project...
In its modern form, project management dates back to the early 1950s, although its roots go further
back to the latter years of the 19th century. As businesses realised the benefits of organising work
around projects recognising the critical need to communicate and co ordinate work across
departments and professions a defined method of project managementemerged.
Many organisations today don t employ full time project managers. Indeed, it s common to pull
together a project team to meet a particular need, one that usually involves producing an end

He also gives you insight on his thought process, which is very open and unguarded. After his
second example of foolishness Gimpel says, I was no weakling. If I slapped someone he d see all
the way to Cracow. But I m really not a slugger by nature. I think to myself, Let it pass. So they
take advantage of me. These are not words of a fool, but they are words of a very trusting and
reliable character.
Gimpel is made to be a protagonist character in the opening paragraph. Singer kind of makes you
feel sorry for him with the stories of the other kids being mean to him in school. That combined
with his rigorous honesty, you find yourself sympathizing for Gimpel. Singer makes Gimpel out to
be an innocent soul that is taken advantage of for the other children s amusement and
entertainment. By doing this Singer makes the other children antagonist characters. In a way the
children are lumped together to be one character; kind of like Gimpel s nemesis. Singer uses a
couple of different ways to create the character Gimpel. First of all he uses what other characters
say about him and do to him. As we know the other kids at school say he is a fool, and take
advantage of him for their own entertainment. I don t think that this was used make him into a
foolish character. I think it was used to make Gimpel into a victim, a sympathetic character. Next,
the narrator s descriptions of himself do a big part of creating his

Racial Diversity In TV Shows
Researchers have stated that if things were to change within the TV productions then maybe
there could be a change financially. There are many statistics that show that many shows and
movies do not seem to grow and researchers have stated that it could be because of the lack of
diversity that many people may get bothered by. However, the 25 movies with casts 21 to 30
percent Black/Latino/Asian had by far the highest median global box office, at $160.1 million.
The next highest median global box office came from films with 11 to 20 percent Blacks/Latinos
/Asians, at $75.5 million. The 88 films with the least diverse casts had a median global box
office of just $68.5 million (Lin). This shows that if TV shows and movies were to change the
racial diversity in their shows or movies that they could possibly have a high positive effect
instead of continuing not to grow. The research showed that with a good amount of racial
diversity there was a lot more money made than there was without so much ethnicity. It was later
shown in other statistics that there were more viewers who watched the show when the diversity
was more open up than when it was not. The highest rated broadcast dramas and comedies, with a
median household rating of 5.84, were shows with 41 to 50 percent Black/Latino/Asian casts.
Shows with casts 31 to 40 percent Black/Latino/Asian had a 5.02 median household rating. Shows
with the least diverse casts had a median household rating of 3.79 (Lin). This research shows

Essay On Burnsville
The earliest inhabitants of Burnsville were the Mdewakanton Dakota Indians. Around 1750,
Chief Black Dog established a permanent village between Black Dog Lake and the Minnesota
River, near the present site of the Black Dog Power Plant. After the Dakota nation ceded land in
1851 and moved to Chief Shakopee s village in Prior Lake, the area was settled by numerous
Irish, Scottish, and Norwegian farmers from Saint Paul. One of these Irish settlers was a man by
the name of William Byrne. In 1850, Byrne settled near the Scott County line at the present day
junction of County Road 34 and Judicial Road. There he donated land for a church, school, and
cemetery as well as serving as Town Chairman. In 1858, the Dakota County Board authorized
Byrnsville Township. The township bordered the Minnesota River to... Show more content on

In 1864, rail access came and Burnsville developed into a resort town. The township boasted
cottages along Crystal Lake, Orchard Lake, and Marion Lake in nearby Lakeville. The
Bloomington Ferry provided river crossings until the finished construction of the Bloomington
Ferry Bridge in 1889. The Lyndale Avenue Drawbridge opened next to Black Dog Lake in 1920
extending Minneapolis north south highway to the southern, rural communities like Burnsville.
Even still, it remained a quiet township with a population around 600 hundred people. School was
taught in a one room schoolhouse that contained up to eight grades. With the arrival of Interstate
35W in 1960, Burnsville began to experience its largest population boom that would last for two
decades. The interstate ran straight through the heart of Burnsville, bringing with it both new
residents and business. The population of Burnsville accelerated by 20,000 from 1960 to 1970.
After defeating an annexation by the city of Bloomington, Burnsville was officially incorporated in
1964. Soon after, the city experienced mass housing

Teratogen Essay
Teratogens are all around pregnant women. Only look at the normal house hold toothpaste that
states on the bottle, to seek medical attention if swallowed. Almost everyone has toothpaste in
their home and uses it everyday but with all the chemicals, it is considered a teratogen if ingested.
Teratogens affect embryo s development and counselors can help prevent exposure to teratogens.
Almost any man made substance could be considered a teratogen to some extent. However, the
key question is at what level is a substance to be considered a teratogens because, to officially be
classified as a teratogen it has to alter the embryo from an unnatural growth or lack of. From the
Life Span text, it lists the most researched teratogens as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nervous system is likely to be subject to teratogens at week 3 to week 20. However, the
nervous system could be subject to teratogens until birth. Each stage of development with the
embryo constantly transforming the embryo is subject to teratogens largely at initial development
of each major system. Teratogens could affect the heart development at three and half weeks to six
and a half. Without a developed heart, an embryo might not have a long life. As this learner s
chosen major as counseling psychology, There are approaches that would be taken into account to
persuade clients not to expose themselves to teratogens. Everything from educating the client
about teratogens to referring them to a medical doctor to ensure they had a normal and healthy
embryo. Listening and explaining the consequences to the client would help the client understand
the consequence of their actions, to exposure to teratogens. As a counselor, there would not be
much one could do to stop exposure of teratogens besides persuasion unless the client implied or
said they were purposely going to try to harm the embryo, in which it would be a moral
obligation and possibly a legal one to take all actions possible to stop the exposure to the embryo.
Teratogens can harm an embryo. Most will not kill an embryo. However, any large quantity of
teratogens like nicotine will

Compare Fahrenheit 451 And Lamb To The Slaughter
She s Had Enough
Does the strength of a marriage have any influence on the length one spouse will go to to protect
the other? Mildred, in Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, and Mary, in Lamb to the Slaughter, a
short story by Roald Dahl, both have marriages that are falling apart. This eventually led both of
the wives to betray their husbands. While some differences between Mildred and Mary are
evident, the similarities are striking. Mildred embraced the bizarre norms of her dystopian society,
and Mary defied the typical role of a 1960 s wife. In both stories, the fragility of their marriages
ultimately caused both wives to betray their husbands in fatal ways.
In both the novel and the short story, Mary and Mildred s marriages are collapsing. Although both
Mary and Mildred may recognize that their marriages are weak, both pretend that everything is fine.
In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, Mildred s husband, realizes that he and Mildred don t know much
about each other and he says, Funny, how funny, not to remember where or when you met your
husband r wife (Bradbury 43). This scene doesn t faze Mildred as she can t comprehend the failure
of their marriage. Similarly, in Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary s marriage continues to crumble as
Patrick comes home and says, I know it s kind of a bad time to be telling you, but there is simply
no other way which implies that he has bad news for her. Patrick then tells Mary that he wants a
divorce (Dahl 381). Just like Mildred, Mary purposely

Life of the Soul Revealed in Sailing to Byzantium and Shadows
The view of death from an aged individual can be one of acceptance of his life s end or one of
mystified wonder over the immortality of the soul. Both William Butler Yeats and David Herbert
Lawrence take the latter view in their respective poems, Sailing to Byzantium and Shadows. By
viewing death as a continuation of their soul s life in a different realm of being, they provide a
comforting solution to the fear that death may be the end of their existence. In W.B. YeatsSailing to
Byzantium and D.H. Lawrence s Shadows, death is addressed from the viewpoint of one preparing
for its eminent arrival; Yeats, however, expresses the belief that he can live... Show more content on

Such a place represents a stage of contemplation wherein the soul studies itself and so learns both
what it is and in what consists true and eternal joy (Olson 266); in this case, the soul experiences
immortal joy by becoming a work of art.
By becoming an artifice of eternity after leaving the land of the young, the traveler allows his
soul to be reborn and to clap its hands and sing. The illusion of immortality that possesses those
in the childish land creates a chasm that entraps the knowing aged men s souls from truly being
free. While living in a terrain where death is unacknowledged, the men who are facing an eminent
end on earth are out of place and lost among those who are following the sensual music; the
trapped young are enchanted by the music of their carelessness, exhibiting the qualities of being
passive and incapable of free action; and they neglect those things which are unageing (Olson
266). The unageing items are only contemplated by the old. Age allows men to escape from
chimeras of light heartedness and to embrace the imperfections of life, such as their mortality, so
they can rejoice and louder sing for every tatter in its mortal dress. While the young men continue
their illusion that life will last all summer long in such a place, the dying generations travel on their
journey to find the eternal form of their soul.

These models are used to stimulate what happens when some chemicals are not produced (like leptin in the ob ob mouse), or when some receptors (like leptin receptors) are reduced or malfunctioning. The set point theory (Kennedy 1953: Nisbett, 1972) states that after dieting to reduce body weight, an animal eats more and is less dependent on short term satiety signals. Fifty three percent of adult dogs and fifty five percent of cats considered overweight or obese by their veterinarian, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. After over feeding to increase body weight,... In addition, the availability of cheap fast food from all around the world with the advertising from multinationals such as McDonalds has resulted in pressures which have led to a growth in the consumption of energy rich food among the poor. It is difficult to argue that obesity is a social condition, which negatively affects those in low paid and short term jobs. It is obvious to say, obesity does have a significant biomedical component. What happens inside the body after you have eaten your Big Mac clearly requires psychological/biochemical explanation. Thus, to conclude, there has been a combination of both social and biological factors which have contributed to the growing cases of obesity which is putting a strain on our health budgets (ten percent of the total NHS budget is allocated to obesity and related illnesses), creating many early deaths, and even lowering peoples self esteems. By 2060, sixty percent of men, fifty percent of women, and twenty five percent of children are likely to be obese. Obesity is a worldwide epidemic which needs to be dealt with appropriately. There are many ways to tackle obesity. The WHO s 1997 interim report argues that it is not enough to tackle obesity at individual level and that a society wide public health approach needs to be employed. This includes better and much improved medical profession, the government working with the food industry to promote a healthier diet for everyone from childhood to adults, and also more information provided to the public about illnesses such as obesity and ways of maintaining weight loss by promoting sustainable changes ... • 8. Crude Oil Last 10 Years INTRODUCTION The role of petroleum products in our lives is unquestionable. It is safe to say that oil is the cornerstone of our civilization. A pessimist might argue that without oil our industrial society will collapse and there will be rapid decline in the world population. But again that is a pessimist s view, personally we would like to think that we will in near future find other energy sources on which we can depend and build our civilization to reach the next milestone. In this report we have tried to highlight the fluctuations of crude oil during the period of 2001 10. Thus the oil market participants producers, refiners, marketers, and traders would not have one of their bases for setting prices in their contracts and other transactions. It does not appear that the oil industry was materially affected by the closing of the Nymex, which, in any event, resumed all operations in about one week. While the immediate effect of the attacks on petroleum markets was to drive prices up, market forces reflecting little change in supply and demand acted quickly, and crude oil prices eased within little more than a week. Average crude oil prices paid by U.S. refiners actually declined for the month of September 2001 falling to $20.82 per barrel from $24.08 in the previous month. 2002: After moving lower in 2001, crude oil prices moved higher in 2002 reaching over $30 per barrel in September 2002. Higher prices were supported by a number of factors. One was the ongoing U.S. war on terrorism and rising tensions with Iraq. There was the likely potential that military action would be taken against Iraq that would disrupt the supply of crude oil to the market. With that issue still not settled as 2002 drew to a close, crude oil prices continued to find support. While there were factors supporting higher prices, there were also factors working against them. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) after a meeting in 2001 agreed that production of oil would be cut. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Comparing Theories Of Children Learn And Develop And How... The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast two theorists on how children learn and develop and how their theories work in the early years setting. Piaget and Skinner are both very well known for their theories, they contrast each other as one shows the behaviourist view while the other shows the cognitive view. Piaget is a nativist, he believes that children learn best through active learning, doing for themselves. Whereas Skinner is an empiricist he believes that children s knowledge is learnt from their sense experience and environment. Jean Piaget was born on 9th August 1896 in Switzerland. He studied natural sciences at the University of Neuchatel where he received a Ph.D. He then went onto the University of Zurich where he became interested in psychoanalysis. It was from there he went onto the Sorbonne University in Paris in 1919 to study clinical psychology. It was while Piaget was in Paris that he began working with Alfred Binet marking intelligence tests. It was whilst working on the intelligence tests that he became aware of the process of cognitive development and how it differed considerably from young children to older children to adults. It was from this that he then began his study on the process of thinking in the development of children. (The famous people, 2016) He constructed his theory from observing his children, it was from these observations that he established his four stages of development and schemas; schemas are a set of ideas that ... Surprisingly, like all great things it took time and is still taking time to perfect to this day. Democracy is not a system of government that is unchanging it is, matter of fact, constantly up for change and perfection. In comparing Athenian and American democracy, they are very different however some aspects are the same. The similarities include citizens were allowed to vote for their leader(s). This also lessens the power of the people within the current democracy and its makes it where if your elected official does not agree with the law he will not submit the law for debate and passage. Making the elected official in more of a power position than the people. When democracy was officially built on the power of the people not the power of high ranking officials, therefore, ruining the whole point of having a democracy in the first place. Another difference between the two democracies is that in the Athenian democracy, the people who were able to vote were taught and given a proper education, unlike today where everyone can vote, whether they are educated or not. In Athenian time you had to be a boy who was most likely to become a landowner. This eliminated the chances for advancement in technology significantly and made the process of evolution slow down even more. Likewise, now days everyone is given an education. Rich, poor, white or black everyone is given equal opportunity to pursue an education. If they choose to is all up to them. In conclusion when comparing and contrasting American Democracy today and Athenian Democracy in 430B.C. there are many similarities and many differences. The effects and outcomes of each democracy are almost the same. Overall democracy is democracy in the end and deep down it is all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abdellah achieved her inner most dreams which was furthering the science of nursing research. Faye was a pioneer nursing researcher that helped transform nursing theory, nursing care and nursing education. In 1960, she was influenced by the desire to promote patient centered comprehensive nursing care. Abdellah described nursing as a service to individuals, to families and therefore to the society. She was a rebel from the start in her efforts to promote nursing. Through time, she learned to disguise her rebellious leadership methods under the title politically correct. Even when faced with setbacks Faye continued to persevere and thrive for change (Houser Player, 2004). Furthermore, a team leader is someone who inspires, mentors, guides, thrives for change and sets an example. Throughout Faye s life she demonstrated strong team leadership styles such as her remarkable courage and determination for pursuing her vision. The courageous risks she took in her leadership roles were all in an effort to bring about change in nursing and improve patient care throughout the world. • 15. The Broadway Musical Hamilton By Lin Manuel Miranda Oftentimes people have a difficult time connecting with history. They do not see the relevance between something hundreds of years ago and today s issues. The Broadway musical Hamilton by Lin Manuel Miranda does a great job of bridging that gap. Many of the issues that were faced in the time period of Alexander Hamiltonare also faced in the world today. An example of this is politicians riding the fence on important issues. A main character in the play is criticized greatly for doing this just as people are currently. In Miranda s Hamilton, characters are faced with issues and are asked to take a stand just as political leaders are today. Hamilton had a rough childhood and did not have many opportunities where he came from. His family, friends, and neighbors decided that he needed to go to the mainland to get an education. It was then that he was able to make a name for himself and he began to climb the social and political ladders. If Hamilton would have stayed in his hometown he would not have been able to do anything that he accomplished in his life. The world we live in today is having to make similar decisions. Also, they watch his painful torture and death. In the Bible, the Romans taunt and beat Jesus before he is forced to carry the cross. In The Lion, the Witch, and theWardrobe, the White Witch s followers taunted him, bound him, and beat him before his execution (Lewis The Lion, the Witch, and theWardrobe 153 154). The difference between the two was that Jesus was never bound and Christ was nailed to a cross, not stabbed with a dagger. These differences are there so that Lewis can show that the execution was not Christian but pulled from other sacrificial religions. When Jesus died on the cross, the devil assumed he had won Earth and that he could now take over unchallenge. The White Witch had a similar theme going through her head before she killed Aslan. Lewis wrote Understand that you have given me Narnia forever, you have lost your own life and you have not saved his ( The Lion, the Witch, and theWardrobe 155). He uses the analogy of a drug pusher giving away drugs for free until the client is hooked and then starts charging them for more. He states that this method doesn t work because science doesn t produce the high religion does and that at the end of the day it is up to the student to decide whether they want to accommodate science with their faith (Raymo Ludden, 2011, p. 702 704). Mr. Raymo uses a Rogerian style in his writing because he is trying to build common ground in his argument. He starts by talking about miracles and how we are taught fake stories when we are young. This is something majority of people can relate to. Then he explains how as we get older we acknowledge these miracles as lies because we disprove them scientifically. He also mentions that the concepts of science are miracles and based on that scientists form theories. So far his reasoning is logical. This helps his argument because more people will appeal to logical reasoning. He also provides strong evidence of religion and science working together when he writes about the experiment done on the Shroud of Turin. Muhammad was a known for his kindness, making him someone people could confide in and trust. One example of when the Prophet Muhammad demonstrated kindness was the story about his neighbor. The trash would cut and bruise his bare feet, but he never complained to her. One morning, there was no trash on Muhammad s doorstep. The Prophet became concerned and went next door. Logically speaking, it would have been recorded somewhere that there were several individuals with black limbs if the ergot theory were true. After the doctor s analysis, the townspeople then gathered up all of the girls with the symptoms. The collected girls accused three women: Sarah Good, an odd homeless woman who lived the streets of Salem Village, Sarah Osborne, who had married her servant and rarely attended the church meetings, and Tituba, an Indian slave from Barbados who was in service of Reverend Samuel Parris. Sarah Good and Sarah Osborne denied the accusations, while Tituba confessed, and claimed there were multiple other witches working by her side in Salem. This started the hysterical beginning of the Salem Witch trials, which resulted in many women, men, and children being accused of practicing witchcraft. Out of the one hundred fifty people accused in Salem, twenty of them were executed as witches, while others rotted away and died in jail. The people of Salem did not discriminate who they executed or who they sent to jail so the result was a diverse range of citizens being accused. While participating in athletic and academic programs, I have found that good sportsmanship is what makes a good program and a good student athlete. It requires you to not only look out for yourself but also to look out for the well being of others, both on your team and on the opposing team. It is important to possess positive sportsmanship because you learn to care for and help others regardless of differences, which is a quality that is beneficial in an academic setting, athletics, and life as a whole. During my high school career, I have demonstrated good sportsmanship while participating in various extracurricular activities, such as the National Honor Society, diversity club, rocket cheerleading, track, competitive cheer, and sideline cheer. Mr. Williams And The Music Of Music And Film John Williams once said so much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it s gratifying to have something you have done linger in people s memories and linger it did. Mr. Williams has made significant contributions to the arts of music and film. To fully understand the gravity of his achievements and their affect on humanity, we must first look at the progression of sound in film; the effect music has in film and its audience; and lastly his accomplishments of music and film. In the infancy of film, movies were silent but not without sound. To make film a more pleasant experience, music was provided to cover up the ambient noise of the projector and help create an agreeable atmosphere, often by the use of a solo piano. (Fischoff, S. These are not words of a fool, but they are words of a very trusting and reliable character. Gimpel is made to be a protagonist character in the opening paragraph. There are many statistics that show that many shows and movies do not seem to grow and researchers have stated that it could be because of the lack of diversity that many people may get bothered by. However, the 25 movies with casts 21 to 30 percent Black/Latino/Asian had by far the highest median global box office, at $160.1 million. The next highest median global box office came from films with 11 to 20 percent Blacks/Latinos /Asians, at $75.5 million. The 88 films with the least diverse casts had a median global box office of just $68.5 million (Lin). This shows that if TV shows and movies were to change the racial diversity in their shows or movies that they could possibly have a high positive effect instead of continuing not to grow. The research showed that with a good amount of racial diversity there was a lot more money made than there was without so much ethnicity. It was later shown in other statistics that there were more viewers who watched the show when the diversity was more open up than when it was not. The highest rated broadcast dramas and comedies, with a median household rating of 5.84, were shows with 41 to 50 percent Black/Latino/Asian casts. Shows with casts 31 to 40 percent Black/Latino/Asian had a 5.02 median household rating. Shows with the least diverse casts had a median household rating of 3.79 (Lin). This research shows ... Around 1750, Chief Black Dog established a permanent village between Black Dog Lake and the Minnesota River, near the present site of the Black Dog Power Plant. One of these Irish settlers was a man by the name of William Byrne. In 1850, Byrne settled near the Scott County line at the present day junction of County Road 34 and Judicial Road. • 44. Compare Fahrenheit 451 And Lamb To The Slaughter She s Had Enough Does the strength of a marriage have any influence on the length one spouse will go to to protect the other? Mildred, in Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, and Mary, in Lamb to the Slaughter, a short story by Roald Dahl, both have marriages that are falling apart. This eventually led both of the wives to betray their husbands. While some differences between Mildred and Mary are evident, the similarities are striking. Mildred embraced the bizarre norms of her dystopian society, and Mary defied the typical role of a 1960 s wife. In both stories, the fragility of their marriages ultimately caused both wives to betray their husbands in fatal ways. In both the novel and the short story, Mary and Mildred s marriages are collapsing. Although both Mary and Mildred may recognize that their marriages are weak, both pretend that everything is fine. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, Mildred s husband, realizes that he and Mildred don t know much about each other and he says, Funny, how funny, not to remember where or when you met your husband r wife (Bradbury 43). This scene doesn t faze Mildred as she can t comprehend the failure of their marriage. Similarly, in Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary s marriage continues to crumble as Patrick comes home and says, I know it s kind of a bad time to be telling you, but there is simply no other way which implies that he has bad news for her. Patrick then tells Mary that he wants a divorce (Dahl 381). Just like Mildred, Mary purposely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Life of the Soul Revealed in Sailing to Byzantium and Shadows The view of death from an aged individual can be one of acceptance of his life s end or one of mystified wonder over the immortality of the soul. Both William Butler Yeats and David Herbert Lawrence take the latter view in their respective poems, Sailing to Byzantium and Shadows. By viewing death as a continuation of their soul s life in a different realm of being, they provide a comforting solution to the fear that death may be the end of their existence. In W.B. YeatsSailing to Byzantium and D.H. Lawrence s Shadows, death is addressed from the viewpoint of one preparing for its eminent arrival; Yeats, however, expresses the belief that he can live... Such a place represents a stage of contemplation wherein the soul studies itself and so learns both what it is and in what consists true and eternal joy (Olson 266); in this case, the soul experiences immortal joy by becoming a work of art. By becoming an artifice of eternity after leaving the land of the young, the traveler allows his soul to be reborn and to clap its hands and sing. The illusion of immortality that possesses those in the childish land creates a chasm that entraps the knowing aged men s souls from truly being free. While living in a terrain where death is unacknowledged, the men who are facing an eminent end on earth are out of place and lost among those who are following the sensual music; the trapped young are enchanted by the music of their carelessness, exhibiting the qualities of being passive and incapable of free action; and they neglect those things which are unageing (Olson 266). The unageing items are only contemplated by the old. Age allows men to escape from chimeras of light heartedness and to embrace the imperfections of life, such as their mortality, so they can rejoice and louder sing for every tatter in its mortal dress. While the young men continue their illusion that life will last all summer long in such a place, the dying generations travel on their journey to find the eternal form of their soul.
