What is an essay ?
An essay is a piece of writing that usually has
five or more paragraphs. An essay is written
about one topic that has several main points. The
main points are introduced in an introductory
paragraph and supported in body paragraphs.
The conclusion is the last paragraph.

6. DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY
The aim of descriptive essays is to provide a vivid
picture of a person, location, object, event, or
debate. It will offer details that will enable the
reader to imagine the item described.

7. NARRATIVE ESSAY
The aim of narrative eases tells a story.
 Conversational in style, and tells a
personal experience.
Commonly written in first person (uses I).

8. Compare & Contrast Essay

discusses the similarities and differences
between two things like people, place, religions
etc.
• A comparison essay usually discusses the
similarities between two things while the
contrast essay discusses the difference between
two things.

religions, like Hindu and Islam;

9. Discursive essay
A discursive essay is a piece of formal writing
which discusses a particular issue, solution or
problem.

10. Argumentative Essay
The aim of writing argumentative essays is to
convince or persuade the reader.
One attempts to change the reader’s mind and
convince the reader to agree with the point of
view or claim of the writer.
So an argumentative essay needs to be highly
logical.
