TOPIC: ESSAY WRITING

ESSAY WRITING
 The Word Essay literally means an attempt; and
hence essay is the name given to the form of
composition which is a short attempt on a given
subject, Usually it gives details of Narrative, a
description of some subject, and information on
some subject.
OR
 An Essay is a group of paragraphs written about a
single topic and a central main idea. It must have
at least three paragraphs , but a five-paragraph
essay is a common length for academic writing.
THE STRUCTURE OF AN ESSAY
 The Introduction: Explains the topic with general
ideas. It also has the thesis statement and comes
at or near the end of the paragraph.
 The Main body: Explain and support the thesis
statement.
 The conclusion: Summarizes or restates the thesis
and the supporting ideas of the essay.
TYPES OF AN ESSAY
There are Four Main types of An
Essay
1. Descriptive Essays
2. Narrative Essays
3. Expository Essays
4. Argumentative Essays
DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY
 A descriptive essay describes the main topic in
detail and with the aim of letting the reader to relate
to your experience
OR
 A descriptive essay is an essay that describes
something, an object or person, an event or
program or place, an experience or emotion or an
idea. The goal of this kind of essay is to provide
readers with enough detailed descriptions for them
to be able to picture or imagine the chosen topic.
NARRATIVE ESSAY
 A Narrative Essay tells a story. In most cases, this
is a story about personal experience you had.
Narrative Essay refers to the narration of a study
or experience by the writer.
OR
 Narrative Essay is a type of essay that has a single
motif or a central point around which the whole
narrative revolves. All incidents happening and
characters revolve around a single motif presented
in the narration.
EXPOSITORY ESSAY
 Expository Essays compare, explore and discuss
problems. While there’s a bit of story telling element
to them, their purpose is greater than that. It always
to explain some integral concept to the reader. As
such they inform, describe and explain.
OR
 The Expository essay is a genre of essay that
requires the student to investigate an idea, evaluate
evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an
argument concerning that idea in a clear and
concise manner
ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
 In Argumentative essay, the writer is trying to
convince the reader of something. He or she will
demonstrate the validity or falsity of a topic. The
writer’s position will be backed up with evidence,
including statistics or the opinion of an expert. In
these essays the writer isn’t merely offering an
opinion but making an argument for or against
something and supporting that argument with data.
To write an argumentative essay, its important to
research and backup what you say in the text.
