Essay Against Animal Testing
Writing an essay on the topic of opposing animal testing can be both challenging and emotionally
charged. On one hand, you need to present a compelling argument against the practice,
highlighting ethical concerns, the impact on animal welfare, and potential alternatives. On the
other hand, it's crucial to maintain a balanced and well-reasoned tone, avoiding emotional
appeals that might weaken the overall persuasiveness of your essay.
Researching the subject can be difficult, as you need to delve into scientific studies, ethical
discussions, and historical contexts surrounding animal testing. This requires a comprehensive
understanding of the various perspectives and debates within the field. Additionally, finding
credible sources that support your stance while countering potential counterarguments can be
time-consuming.
Crafting a strong thesis statement that succinctly captures your main argument and outlines the
key points of your essay is crucial. It sets the tone for the entire piece and guides your readers
through your perspective. Striking the right balance between providing factual information and
appealing to the reader's emotions is a delicate task, as you aim to create a persuasive and
impactful narrative.
Moreover, structuring the essay effectively, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs that
logically present your arguments, and a powerful conclusion, adds another layer of complexity.
Each paragraph must contribute to the overall coherence and persuasiveness of your essay.
Lastly, revising and editing are essential to refine your arguments, check for logical
inconsistencies, and ensure clarity in your writing. It's important to maintain a critical eye during
this process, as a strong essay against animal testing requires meticulous attention to detail.
In conclusion, writing an essay on this topic demands a combination of research, empathy, and
persuasive writing skills. It's a challenging task that requires a careful balance between emotion
and logic to create a compelling argument against a controversial practice.

The fact that IT sector in the country has increased at an incredible rate of 35% per
year for the last 10 years reinforces the view that India is world class in IT. The
contribution of IT sector to national GDP will be around 8.5% during the year
2010 2011. The IT sector revenue is expected to increase from Rs 1276 billion in
2004 2005 to Rs 6435 billion in 2011. Availability and adequate supply of skilled
and knowledgeable workforce and the quality of infrastructure is critical for the
growth of IT in India. The IT sector is one of the largest employers of women, and
therefore, can play a crucial role in women empowerment and the reduction of
gender inequalities. As per NASSCOM (2010) estimates, women comprise 30 35%
of the entire workforce in the IT sector. The number of software professionals has
been growing continuously over the years. There is 60% increase in the number of
women employees working in the Indian IT sector from 2006 2008 of the entire
workforce of 400 million working in the IT sector, 30 35% is female and among
them 20% work in urban India(NASSCOM 2008).
Today women with their smartness, grace and elegance have conquered the whole
world. They with their hard work and sincerity have excelled in each and every

States and branches from the Apache tribe. Their characteristics and traditions of
clothing, shelter, and food are still around today. This tribe is known for their
peacefulness and religious beliefs and 0many experts consider their lifestyle to
have been a wealth of culture. They were resilient and seemed to recuperate from
the many hardships they faced, even destitution. Navajo traditions were orally
passed on to younger generations from elders, and even other tribes that the
navajos branched from. They formed a very distinct type of religion known as the
Peyote religion. This religion was unconventional compared to other native
american religions. Some of their rituals used in healing members of the tribe
could last for days and even over a week. Every aspect of their life involved some
type of religious ceremony. When it came to planting crops and harvesting they
would pray, sing, and dance to the sun god named Tsohanoai for a bountiful year. Not
all followed this religion once Christianity was shared with them. In more modern
times between twenty and fifty percent now identify themselves as Christians.

Lab Report On The Properties Of Acetic Acid
1.ACETIC ACID:
1.1 Overview
Acetic acid is an organic compound, chemically represented as CH3COOH. It is
derived from the Latin word acetum, which means vinegar. It is a weak acid which is
among the most commonly used reagent in the laboratory for number of purposes.
After formic acid, acetic acid is the simplest carboxylic which consists of two
functional groups:
Carboxyl group group ( COOH)
Methyl group ( CH3)
When acetic acid is not diluted or in its concentrated form it is also termed as glacial
acetic acid. Vinegar used in common household practice is 3 9% acetic acid by
volume in water. Being acid this compound exhibits sour taste and pungent smell.
Synonyms used for acetic acid Ethanoic acid, glacial acetic acid, vinegar acid,
alcohol of vinegar, methane carboxylic acid, and pyro ligneous acid.

Database Modeling, System Design, And Improve
Performance
MODELING
As databases and technology have evolved, Elmasri and Navathe point out that
increasingly complex data structures for modeling to meet the needs of the more
advanced and larger databases that were also beginning to include newer data types
(2016). As stated before, with more complex databases, there are more vulnerabilities
in security that need to be planned for and mitigated wherever possible. A DBMS is
responsible for designing the methods in which data recovery and security is handled,
while tools are used within database modeling that facilitate modeling, system design,
and improve performance (Elmasri Navathe, 2016). When applying these tools to
database creation, security should always be considered in each step of modeling and
creating the database. The DBMS provides a security and authorization subsystem to
the DBA so that they can use it to create accounts and specify account restrictions
(Elmasri Navathe, 2016).
AGGREGATION AND INFERENCE
Aggregation occurs when a user combines individual pieces of data that they have
access to in order to infer more of the bigger picture which they do not have access
to, which can happen when a user only has access to some records but draws enough
information from the ones they do have access to in order to figure out information
that has been deemed off limits to them (Harris, 2002). This is, of course, a potential
security risk which should be corrected. On the other hand, knowledge representation
techniques,
The Characteristics Of The African Art Of The 20th
Century
African Art of the 20th century portrays historic paintings, sculptures, visual arts from
African natives or the people who live on the African continent itself. Visual culture
has been the major part of the African Art. Many of the African sculptures of many
people have been portrayed in wooden masks. African art takes many structures and
created using a wide range of materials such as wood, ceramic, stone, mud, etc. The
African art are from many different parts of Africa that include Muslim art from the
north, Christian art of Ethiopia from the west, sub Saharan Africa, etc. Eastern
Africans has their own style art known as Tinga Tinga paintings and set an example
of craftsmanship by making textile art. The Zimbabwe culture focused more on
creating sculptures and had been in focus internationally. The southern part of Africa
has its unique style of art which focuses more on human characteristics.
This art is known as Mambila figure that portrays the male ancestor with a heart
faced shaped. It is made of wood and later painted with black color. The Mambila are
a tribe of farmers who lied on the northern part of Nigeria.
The African art of the 20th century has influenced many European and Western
painters such as Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin, Henry Matisse, Modigliani. At first,
these artists knew nothing of African art forms, but suddenly recognized the aspect
of the art. In the 20th century, when the French Empire was growing, the African
arts were brought to Paris museums which made Europeans recognize the work of
African artists. The art represented the many forms of art and made other painters
felt the ability to use imaginations in their own works. Their artists saw the art as it
expresses power in form of emotion. The study on the African art gave a strong
response making the artists to show an interest in many forms of art because it
demonstrated emotional and psychological power. The African continent people
showed a different and unique culture into their art because of the materials they used
to create the masks and sculptures. It was a very different type of culture than the
West as their art was rich in texture because of the resources they had. African
continent did not have this luxury and
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Commercialisation Of
Sports
Sports have been more commercialised today. The media promote the
commercialisation of sports. They provide needed publicity and create and maintain
spectator interest among large numbers of people. There are many forms of media to
show sports such as social media, radio,
TV and newspapers. Radio was the first form to show sports and now TV is the
most powerful form for spectator to access for sports and events all over the world.
The Internet has also provided an advanced way of communicating. The media
provides information like the news of results, entertainment and interpretation. Sport
is certainly for entertainment and how the media portrays the sport will influenced
us. Some sports become especially dependent on media television ... Show more

Commercialisation goes hand in hand with sponsorship and treats athletes as
commodities.
For e.g. Cristiano Ronaldo wears NIKE shoes to promote the brand. He is being
treated as an asset to the NIKE Company through product endorsement which helps to
bring increased sales and more publicity for products.
There are advantages and disadvantages of commercialisation that affect sports. The
advantages are essential funding alternative for sporting organization and events
(substantial funding either for the operations or sponsorship of a particular event or
an athlete will be helpful and eradicate the need to be constantly source for a variety
of funding resources), alternative revenue source for athletes
(revenue sources may encourage more athletes to consider a full time career or be
moving from the semi professional level to the professional level), increase media
exposure of a sport and its athletes (help to raise the profile of the sport and bringing
in more sponsors for the sporting organisation and its athletes), exposing sporting
activity to a wider audience (bringing in new fans of a sport and thereby increasing
spectatorship and participation) and development opportunity for both the sport and
its athletes (helps sports

American Pie, by Don McLean Essay
Analysis of the song American Pie , by Don McLean
The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a major rock and roll hit in 1971.
McLean portrays famous rock and roll singer and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died
in a plane crash in 1961 by using many rhetorical strategies. The different possible
interpretations of this song made it one of the most controversial songs from the
1970 s.
Don McLean was a famous singer/songwriter who was popular in the 1970 s. His
music is mostly classified into rock and roll. The audience of this song can be
anyone. The majority of the people listening to the song in the 1970 s were hippies, or
people who had open minds. The purpose of this song is not just to entertain people
with beautiful music, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The address to the term, Miss American Pie references a plane that went down
killing singer Buddy Holly. The line, The quartet practiced in the park, refers to the
famous pop group Beatles who became famous shortly after the death of Holly. All
of the other symbolism in this song revolves events that happened around that time
of Holly s death. McLean uses informal irony in the tone of the song to convey this
deep symbolism. Because of the depth, there is a big controversy on what some of
the words represent. Some people even think Miss American Pie represents the civil
rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.. One example of McLean s use of irony is in
the story about Holly. The irony comes from how he describes when Holly was
younger, he borrowed a coat from James Dean, and then many years later he was a
famous singer. McLean uses a subjective point of view as he uses his interpretations,
comments, and judgments to appeal to pathos in this song.
McLean uses only two of the rhetorical appeals. Ethos is used when he describes
the other singers most people know about. And while Lenin read a book on Marx,
emphasizes ethos because Lenin was a famous singer who people respect. Pathos
was used throughout the whole piece especially when he said the lovers cried and
the poets screamed. This quote describes the people s sadness towards the death of
Holly, which appeals to the listener in many emotional ways. He also uses

Surface Of Mercury Research Paper
The surface of Mercury is very rocky, and has many pits and craters on it due to the
large number of meteors that have collided with the surface over the years.
According to all all observations that muggle spacecraft has made, the surface of
Mercury is dead, with no signs of life or liquid water. This is largely due to its lack
of atmosphere and extreme temperatures. Also due to the lack of atmosphere,
Mercury has no weather or wind, and the surface has few distinguishing features
such as riverbeds or dust storms. Much of the surface is similar to the surface of Earth
s moon. Beneath the surface of mercury is a solid core, which is very rich in iron
deposits. The core is large compared to the total size of the planet, the largest ratio of
any planet or dwarf planet in our solar system.

Iron-Sulfur World Hypothesis Essay
There are many hypotheses about the formation of a primitive terrestrial environment.
These hypotheses explain the origin of biomolecules including amino acids, purines,
sugars, and many more. These hypotheses verify the creation of molecules through
these various processes.
The Iron Sulfur world hypothesis proposes the idea that Chemoautotrophic organisms
were the first creations on earth and that they get their energy from the oxidative
formation of pyrite. Chemotrophs are organisms that obtain energy by the oxidation
of electron donors in their environments. Gunter Wachtershauser is the german
scientist who came up with this idea, received on October 30, 1989. Gunter
suggested that the organism must be an intermediate of carbon, meaning that it is
formed by one reaction and taking part in another, involving carbon. The organism
must also be able to acquire electrons and have an irreversible metabolism.
Carl Woese, Francis Crick and Leslie Orgel, in the 1960s, proposed the idea that the
single stranded proteins, RNA, were solely relied on. This theory is called, the RNA
world hypothesis. They believed that an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Spirited Away Reflection
Hayao Miyazaki s oscar award winning Spirited Away was the first Japanese anime
film to win an Oscar. To see how this animated feature film won this grand award,
this paper will talk about the writing, music, and sound design of this film.
Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 in a town called Akebono cho in
BunkyЕЌ, Tokyo. His father ran a business that manufactured plane rudders during
World War II. At the age of 3, Miyazaki s family had to evacuate numerous times to
escape bombings in their area. Miyazaki aspired to become a manga artist when he
was in junior high, but he was not good at drawing people, so instead he drew
planes, tanks, and ships. He then got inspired by a movie called Panda and the
Magic Serpent (1958) and began to draw more people.
Miyazaki s writing tends to be more on the fantasy side. One theme that can be
seen throughout his films is the joy and wonder of flying, as Miyazaki himself
loves the idea of flying. In most of his more famous films, things start out in a
normal and real world setting, and then get whisked away into a new and strange
world filled with mystery and wonder.
The story of Spirited Awayfollows a ten year old girl named Chihiro, who is
currently moving into a new home in a new town in Japan. On their way to the new
house, Chihiro s parents find an abandoned temple like structure. The family decides
to venture in and investigate the area. Chihiro is cautious and doesn t want to go any

The Time Of My Father Essay
The time in which I was born was very different than the one my parents had to live
in when they were children. I was born in a small town in Colombia, where no
more than a hundred families lived. The entire population of my hometown was
Catholic. There was a small chapel next to my house and the priest went there
once a month to celebrate Mass. He and the seminarians stayed at our home, when
they went for the Holy Week and Christmas missions. On Saturdays, my brother
and I went to a town an hour away afoot or 20 minutes on a horse, to have further
studies. Ninety percent of that town s population were Pentecostal and only 10 %
were Catholic. There was a big Pentecostal Church in the middle of the town and a
small Catholic church outside the village. My brother and I went to study there on
Saturdays because the Pentecostals offered to us a couple of American godparents
who sent us gifts twice a year from the US. Nonetheless, to get those gifts we had to
attend school on Saturdays, take pictures with the gifts in our hands, and attend the
Pentecostal service once a year. During that service, my brother and I laughed the
whole time at the people dancing in the church. My aunt, the only Pentecostal
member of a family of twelve siblings, got embarrassed for our behavior every time
we attended the service. It was very interesting to grow up in a country where almost
all the population were Christians and, at least at that time, 92 percent of the 45
million Colombians reported

Your rights at work will depend on: * Your statutory rights * Your contract of

Your contract of employment cannot take away rights you have by law. E.g. if
your contract states that you are only entitled to two weeks paid holiday per year
when, by law, all full time employees are entitled to 28 days paid holiday a year
then this part of your contract is void and does not apply.. However if your contract

Symbolism In The Translation Of Dr. Apelles
Deep within the forest, destiny brings two young Native American lovers closer
together after a series of unforeseen tragedies, but not without the help of nature and
the animals within the woods. In the novel, The Translation of Dr. Apelles,
specifically within the storyline related to Bimaadiz and Eta, animal imagery for the
pair are associated with the hope and love for their relationship while animals for the
other villagers relate to violence, these animals are a plot devicethat drive the
storyline ensuring that Bimaadiz and Eta remain a couple and eventually marry.
Animal symbolism associated with the hope for and love within Bimaadiz and Eta s
relationship is seen in their interactions with wolves, deer, moose, and a pack of dogs.
Contrastingly, other villages interactions with these animals symbolize violence and
oftentimes death.
In this novel, animals are used as plot devices to save Bimaadiz and Eta from death
and capture. The first experience with animal imagery and Eta in the novel is
when her village has died of starvation and as the only survivor she meets a she
wolf who she suckles from to survive: With the rough nipple in front of her face,
she latched on and began sucking (Treuer 19). If it wasn t for Eta s interaction with
the wolf, she would have died. The she wolf was able to save her life and because
of that, her story and relationship with Bimaadiz was able to unfold later. The dead
villagers have an extremely different interaction with wolves: If there had been
anyone to see it, what happened next would have looked like the most awful of
massacres...All that remained were the half eaten corpses of the villagers. The
bodies were badly damaged along with all the tunics and moccasins and gloves
they wore (17 21). Eta s deceased villagers have a more violent experience with the
wolves when they are eaten by them. The word massacre and description of half
eaten corpses is an indication of the violent nature in which the villagers were
eaten by the wolves. It was necessary for Eta survive for her storyline with
Bimaadiz to continue, so she was saved by the she wolf but the other villagers were
not necessary to the story and suffered a violent end. Bimaadiz has a similar

really are or about how they came to be? It is a fact that there are over 60 of
them, but the twelve major ones are called the olympians. Most people have probably
heard of them at some point in time. Not only are there immortal gods and goddesses,
but also there are mortals(half bloods) that became immortal because of something
they did.
The first two immortals were hera and zeus they were also brother and sister.Their
mother was rhea and their father was cronus. Both parents were titans and it is said
that cronus swallowed his children because he had been told that one of his
descendants would dethrone him one day rhea hid zeus away until he was old enough

Many of the other immortals Zeus, hera, poseidon, demeter, athena, apollo, artemis,
ares, aphrodite, hephaestus, hades and hestia, or dionysus are pretty much the ones
that started the whole thing. Them being the twelve olympians, they are the highest of
all the other gods and goddesses. That being said hades, heracles, persephone,
asclepius, eros, and hebe are also major gods and goddesses, but are not included
with the twelve. Some believe that the reason for this is because they don t live
with the olympians for example hades and persephone live in the underworld. The
geeks really thought of everything when they thought of what each god or
goddess would rule over, and what their children would rule over. They must have
studied about their gods and goddesses quit a bit in order to make it this
complicated. A few of the major immortals and what they ruled over are,Apollo god
of the Sun, Music, Medicine, Archery, and Prophesy, Artemis goddess of the Hunt,
and Moon, and Hermes god of Travelers, Thieves, Wanderers, Tricksters, and
Messengers. Some of the minor immortals and what they ruled over are, Hecate
goddess of Witchcraft, Doorways, and Crossways, Iris goddess of the rainbow, and
Hebe minor goddess of Youth.
There are many different myths about the major gods and goddesses. One such myth
is about apollo, in this story it says that he had killed a creature with
Psalm 78 Is The Psalm Of Remembrance
Psalm 78 is the psalm of remembrance. In the beginning, the psalmist commands the
attention of the present age to what we have heard and known. We should not
conceal them from our children, but it is our responsibility to tell the generations to
come to praise the Lord about his strength and wondrous works he has done. This is
such a good reminder for me! Sometimes we are influenced by the value of this
world and we pay too much attentions to teach the children the knowledge of the
languages, sciences or arts, but we forget the more important thing is to help our
children put their confidence in Godand fear the Lord since they are still young. In
the Psalm 78:9 39, the psalmist remembers many miracles God has done for the

Foucault And The Panopticon
A Panopticon is a structure designed to where subjects can be observed from a
central viewpoint, but cannot view each other. Why can the Central tower supervise
the inmates while the inmates cannot supervise others? Simply because the central
tower has the power, for the inmates to be able to observe each other in the same
manner would either be inconsequential, or unjust. Foucault says that knowledge and
power are deeply intertwined and that both can be used to produce the other via
observation, or control. One of the issues that arise from having a society similar to
the Panopticonis that not all of those who serve as a central tower can be regarded to
as virtuous.

My parents have always emphasized the importance of collecting and analyzing data.
They once brought me to a stock exchange to watch how all the values change in
real time, and they explained that stock traders need to collect, analyze, and interpret
millions of data points in order to understand whether the stock prices will rise or
fall. Since then, they have inspired me to see things through the lens of a data

doing any other activity, I try to examine the underlying data to grasp an even deeper

Kohistani History Essay example
To reach Thull, a Kohistani community that is found in the mountains near the
border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, you have to make a hazarding trip on an
endless dirt road that is unattainable in bad weather. The Kohistani are inherently a
violent people who strongly believe in vengeance and had most of their fighting
take place between descent groups. For the most part conflict was handled by local
leaders, and there was usually no fatal accident due to a lack of fatal weapons. The
lack of guns was due to the lack of roadsthat limited economic development, which
limited the amount of money a person could amass. However, when Pakistan took
charge in 1965, a number of social and economic developments took place. The roads

With crosscutting ties losing their effectiveness in sustaining peaceful relations, death
enmity started to thrive. With the emerge of roads, the subsistence strategy of the
Kohistani people changed, and with that incorporated more violence into their culture
as well. This is a good example demonstrating how culture is integrated by the way
that a street can alter other aspects of the Kohistani culture like its subsistence
strategy, which in turn affects violence in the Thull.
In addition, not only did the emergence of roads bring a change to subsistence
practices in Kohistani culture, but also brought a change to the economic system as
well. This change was based on cultivating potatoes as a cash crop tied with an
amplified quantity of fields that brought a significant influx of money into the
community. Additionally, money in the community continued to build even more
with the extensive timber exploitation that was occurring, which was the foremost
motive of the Pakistan government to build the road. With timber contractors hiring
local Kohistani people as wage laborers, also brought about paid royalties on the
timber, which brought even more cash to the community. This all seems like it
benefits the Kohistani community in a positive way, but that isn t the case. The
deforestation that takes place is harming their environment greatly and affecting the
fertile land around it, and with an increase in wealth, members of the community can
purchase firearms. Prior to

the cost of CVD and stroke is staggering with more than $320 billion (U.S. dollars)

Changes Of Aging
As people age over time, they have a way of changing both psychological and
biological. These changes affect everyone in different ways and the changes that can
take place over the years can vary from individual to individual. For the human brain,
there s no such thing as over the hill. Psychologists researching the normal changes of
aging have found that although some aspects of memoryand processing change as
people get older, simple behavior changes can help people stay sharp for as long as
possible. Although researchers are still piecing together what happens in a healthy
aging brain, they can explain some typical changes (Memory Changes in Older
Adults, 2006).

Semantic memory is generally derived from episodic memory, in that we learn new
facts or concepts from our experiences, and episodic memory is considered to
reinforce semantic memory (Zimmermann, 2014). It is agreed by researches that
there is a transition from episodic to semantic memory. With that being said, not all
sematic memory is developed from episodic memory. A gradual transition from
episodic to semantic memory can take place, in which episodic memory reduces its
sensitivity and association to particular events, so that the information can be
generalized as semantic memory (Episodic Sematic Memory) . This is important to
understand within this process due to the fact that this allows individuals to store
information as general knowledge. Both the episodic and sematic memory process

within Republican establishments (Ray, par 5).
In 2009 at least 200 Tea Party groups were formed in Texas. The amount of people
in Texas inspired by the Tea Party movement only became evident on Election Day.
47 percent of Texas voters claimed to be supporters of the Tea Party. Their turnout
produced a Republican gain of twenty two seats in the Texas House of

There are at least two threats that the Tea Party currently faces. The first threat is
the anti Tea Party meme; which is a construct of liberal media calling the Tea Party
dangerous extremists. However, the Tea Party has debunked this charge through
habitually civil behavior. Another part of the anti Tea Party meme is charges of
racism. However, the fading of large Tea Party gatherings have taken away
opportunities to demonstrate large crowds of white people as a sign of racism.
A second threat to the Tea Party is the threat of widespread voter fraud. If voter
fraud is too widespread, the efforts of the Tea Party may not be enough to counteract
the get out the vote efforts of Tea Party organizations across the nation (Cary, 2).
There is no single agenda of the Tea Party. This allows each autonomous group to set
its own priorities. Tea Party organizers view this as strength, because this aids against
corruption from within and co opting by outside entities. The Tea Party s

What could company have done differently? Disney parks are known for their

of customer service standard to Disney theme parks are known for their, as well as
failing to provide the service needs that were unique to the European market. Most
of the employees struggled to maintain the high standards of customer service that
were expected in Disney theme parks and some employee described the training by
Disney as brainwashing. Visitors complained that employees looked and acted
like real people than Disney characters sometimes. Euro Disney was having hard
time to retain their employees as well. Euro Disney could not modify the main
theme of other Disney parks to create something unique for Europeans. Restaurants
were not prepared according to the European eating habits and one of the biggest
mistakes was not selling alcoholic beverages in the park which has very close

employees and 15% outside Europe. Flaw in this approach is that on what basis they

Google is one of the most popular, and most used web search engines in the world.
Google also has many services that helps you send mail, generate website pages,

for photos, newsletters, and even geographic locations. The best part is, that all of
these services are basically free. Google has also set to build more then just a

many users go to upload and watch countless videos. Another great thing the
company is doing is spending money on alternative energy sources; last year
Google spent 1 billion dollars trying to increase the use of wind and solar energy.
Google is also fighting in D.C. to keep the Internet free for Americans. Lastly,
Google has one of the best working environments in the world. Google has been the

Corporate Average Fuel Economy ( Cafe ) Standards

Introduction
Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) standards proposed for vehicles
produced between 2017 and 2025 were promulgated through the joint efforts of the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) utilizing regulatory powers granted in their charters
allowing them to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles and other
greenhouse gas producing sources. (Nichols, 2012) The essence of the proposal
was that by 2025 vehicle manufactures would be offering for sale cars and light
trucks that averaged almost 50mpg. This level of fuel economy would result in a
projected reduction in national dependencies on almost 4 billion barrels of oil and
close to 2 billion tons of greenhouse gases namely carbon dioxide over the life of the
new more efficient vehicles. (Nichols, 2012) Cost analysis of the proposal focused on
fuel savings to the consumer and moderate environmental benefits offsetting the
industries technologic costs of meeting the standards at an overwhelming 4:1 ratio
netting over 323 billion dollars of consumer savings over the life of the regulated
vehicles.
Economic Analysis
The variables in this analysis include the consumers with their demand for vehicles
and their demand elasticity when it comes to both the cost of fuel and the cost of
vehicles shaping their demand, the suppliers and their ability to navigate the
legislation to maximize their investor returns, the oil producer s ability to maintain
National Forensic League Essay
The National Forensic League had many great speeches for both humorous and duo
interpretations presented in 2008. Some of those speeches were better than others,
and my job is to rate them from best to worst and explain why. I will be looking at
the following: quality and use of voice, physical expression, eye contact, and the
ability to interpret characters correctly and consistently. The best humorous
interpretation speech was The Witches . This speech had numerous qualities that
were better than any other speech. My rankings for these speeches were as follows:

The speakers had great voices to go with the characters as well as gestures to add
humor to each role (like Anna s best friend brushing her hair). Their voice was
clear and easy to understand as well, which made this speech the top presented one.
The second best speech was Charlotte s Web . The beginning of the speech started
with a lack of eye contact with the audience. Charlotte s Web was visually creative
through both speakers being completely in sync with sophisticated gestures.
Through the use of vocal variety and gestures, the speech became one of the best
presented. The third best speech was The Wizard of Hip . The rate of speaking
was good, but the how much each speaker talked seemed unbalanced. Facial
expressions helped add humor to the speech but there were minor things that could
have been fixed (like eye contact). I ranked Same Difference last because of a
couple reasons. While the dance moves and singing was good, they speakers
stumble on a couple words and the speaking can be hard to hear at times when they
start raising their voices. The speech also involved quite a bit of singing which lost
my attention quickly, but the speech was overall very relatable to a large audience.
Although these speeches were all had a couple things that could be worked on, they
were highly entertaining and were clearly

I Am A Neonatal Nurse
Nursing has a variety of different specialties. The specialty I am most excited for
is neonatal. Neonatal nurses are nurses who care for premature babies, otherwise
known as neonates. They have many different job responsibilities, including,
assessing a client s pain, caring for them, and understanding what is best for the
specific client. Despite all the criticism about my career choice, I have reinforced
my decision by learning about the effects of stress, the type of care nurses
implement, and best practices of neonatal nurses. Before coming to school I knew I

This at first, did not make a whole lot of sense to me, but now it does. When a baby
has gone through stress in utero, they have built up a tolerance to stress and pain.
Their bodies have felt factors of strain, and can deal with it a lot better than babies
who have not been exposed to stressful events before. However, after a neonate is
born, it is critical to prevent stress as much as you can. Babies are constantly being
assessed, held, bathed, and fed. Swaddling has been proven to help distress neonates
by being wrapped up in a blanket tightly (Buonocore Bellieni, 2007, p. 87). You can
imagine the immediate shock neonates encounter once leaving their mother s womb.
There they desperately suffer while discovering their new, constricted condition. They
are pinned to their little bed by gravity, deprived of their usual reassuring gestures
(sucking their thumb, playing with their umbilical cord, placenta, or feet,
masturbating, or swallowing amniotic liquid) because of their lack of motor
coordination. They have lost their freedom and any kind of potential initiative; they
are now submissive and become passive. Many of them escape into their own world
and anesthetize their perceptions; they dissociate themselves, which later on will
influence their way of living. I am often brought
Restrepo Analysis

2010 award winning documentary film Restrepo: One Platoon, One Valley, One Year,

attitudes within the plane are ecstatic and full of youthful naivety and optimism but
as the film progresses and as we are introduced to the Korangal Valley, those bright
smiles are soon replaced with frowns. This is the effects of war, the one that is not

the war in both print and digital media but at the end of the day it s all words.
Hollywood depiction of war is often over glamorized, and doesn t show the real
nitty gritty and the emotional strain that soldiers face. This film was brutally
honest and refreshing because it was shot from the POV of soldiers as they went
about their daily life. The film is candid and doesn t pull its punches it showcases
real footage of soldiers handling automatic weapons, quasi problem solving and
just lying around relaxing. It isn t a thriller that ll keep you on the edge of your
seat nor is meant to be. Its real life and sometimes it can be disturbing, amusing and
violent. The films also address the language and culture barrier that exist that often
time isn t present in literature or Hollywood movies. There are a few subtitles
shown throughout the film , and there isn t any Hollywood makeup artist on
standby to smear dirt on the faces of the troops to give them a more harden look;
this is real and it s unsettling. It forces us to analyze the impact of war on an
individual and the necessity of war and our definition of security threat , if we apply
that definition too haphazardly we risk turning friend into a foe and increasing
underlying animosity but if we loosen our definition it s a sure death. I m going to die

The Simpsons Modern Family Satire Analysis
Situation comedy has used conventions satire and parody is used to reinforce
/challenge ideas and stereotypes through the mocking of societal issues. In this essay
I will discuss about how stereotypes and common ideas are constructed, and how they
are supported or challenged in The Simpsons and Modern Family through the use of
satire, and parody. The first sitcom viewed was The Simpsons(in class viewing),and
is used to explore and support the common idea of consumer capitalism in society
plus the idea of consumer debt through the use of exaggeration and parody. The other
sitcom viewed (home viewing) was the Modern Family episode called Sleeper which
constructs and challenges both parental stereotypes whilst supporting the
stereotypical traits of gay couples through the use of exaggeration and irony.
In the Maple episode of The Simpsons, the main social issues explored are culture,
capitalism and consumer debt. Consumer debt, although only brief, is explored when

The first stereotype, gay couples, is reinforced in this episode with the use of

episode to be feminine and emotional. Although the pair are seen as stereotypical,
Cam is more feminine in this episode, as he is very flamboyant and overreacts

The Negative Impacts of Shift Work on Nurses Essay
In the past two decades, a lot of changes have been characterised in the healthcare
working systems. One of these changes has been the assimilation of shift work
systems and the flexibility in work schedules. The need for 24 hour care makes the
healthcare professions to work with different shift systems such as 12 h, 8 h, 9 h or
10 hour shifts. However, the common shift worksystems divide a 24 h day in two
(12 h) or three (8 h) shifts. Nonetheless, this requires the staff to be adapted with the
various forms of shift work schedules.

With regard to sleepiness, several studies indicated that the average of sleep
duration in 1910 to 2002 have decreased from 9 to 6 hours on workdays (National
sleep foundation, 2002; Groger et al., 2004). Recently, a survey study of Roger et
al. (2004) shows that an American Nurses have an average of 84 minutes more
sleep on non workdays. Thus, shift work suggested as a cause of sleeping disorder
among nurses where they feel of sleep during the shift. Considering the contributing
factors of sleepiness, the literature identified that long working hours and rotating
shifts are causing sleeping disorder. In the night and rotating shifts, the nurses are
rarely obtained adequate amount of sleep. In fact, the nurses experiencing less
sleeping hours (1 to 4 hour) than normal sleeping (Zeisler et al.,1980). Nevertheless,
insufficient sleep is a significant reason of damaging planning, decision making, and
integration of information (Krueger, 1994; Harrison and Horne, 2000). More recent
studies have revealed that long hour shifts and overtime are strongly linked to the
difficulties of being a wake through the shift which leads to increase the risk of
making an error (Scott et al., 2006; Roger et al., 2004).

Willy Loman as Coward in Arthur Miller s Death of a
Salesman
Willy Loman as Coward in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Everybody feels the penetrating presence of fear throughout life. However, people
s reactions to this fear separate the brave souls from the cowards. Mark Twain once
said, Courage is resistance to fear; mastery of fear, not absence of fear (Twain 6). In
Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman fears rejection by his son, Biff
, and the business world. His fears master him, creating in him a fantasy world of life
as it was eighteen years ago. Willy s avoidance of reality and his suicide show his
cowardice. However, the emphasis he puts on financial success prevents him from
realizing the consequences that his suicide would create.
Willy s refusal to face ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Willy believes that his family will appreciate the twenty thousand dollars insurance
money they will receive as a result of his death. However, his motives involve more
than helping with finances. Willy thinks his funeral will prove his greatness to
Biff. In a daydream, Willy tells his brother, Ben, That funeral will be massive! . . .
He ll see what I am, Ben! He s in for a shock, that boy! (Miller 1275). Willy
disregards the fact that establishing a relationship with Biff will affect him more
than money. His cowardice causes him to believe that suicide is the only way to gain
his son s respect.
Throughout the play, Willy s ideas of happiness prevent him from realizing that his
acts are cowardly. To him, financial success embodies happiness. His comparisons
of himself to others show his idealizations. Mainly, he idolizes Ben, who walked
into Africa at age seventeen and walked out four years later as a wealthy man.
Willy also compares himself to Dave Singleman, a salesman he met on the road
early in his career. Dave prospered as a salesman even at age eighty four. Willy asks
his boss, Howard, What could be more satisfying than to be able to go, at the age
of eighty four, into twenty or thirty different cities, and pick up a phone, and be
remembered and loved and helped by so many different people? (Miller 1251). Due
to his belief that money creates happiness, Willy feels that money will mend the

The Current Financial Crisis Essay
Frederic Mishkin makes the point in the text, The Economics of Money Banking, and
Financial Markets (2010) that Banks and other financial institutions are what make
financial markets work. Without them, financial markets would not be able to move
funds from people who save to people who have productive investment opportunities.
(p.7). The movement of funds between savers and those with productive investment
opportunities is the means of creating growth. When people lose confidence in the
economy this activity freezes or weakens, consequently, asset prices decline,
unemployment rises and companies default as was the case of Lehman Brothers in
2008. The freezing of the flow of money is a financial crisis. Today, the global flow of

Europe and China are major economies that impact the world.
Europe s challenges with the Euro are complicated. The United States congress
had trouble agreeing to enact legislature to raise its debt ceiling in order to meet its
obligations and maintain its credit ratings. In Europe, separate countries need to
agree to come together with a combined political will to stabilize countries and
banks in financial trouble. Without the power to print money individually, each
country under the single currency must come together under combined policies.
Today, Europe seems willing to reach combined policy decisions to avoid an
economic disaster. Ultimately, if this happens, the Euro will have a stronger
future just as the United States gained a stronger political and financial system
from policies created as a result of the Great Depression. If Europe fails to come to
agreement on combined policies to solve the European Debt Crisis the world will
realize the financial risks. Direct exposure is already being seen in the financial
institutions. MF Global recently filed for bankruptcy. Exposure to European bonds
brought down a $41B firm just 3 weeks after a European bank failure. Repo to
maturity contacts. Falling bond values created the need for more collateral in this
type of financial instrument. Firms with similar investments could see greater risk if
interest rates rise and bond values fall.

The Hero with a Thousand Faces
Prologue The Monomyth
Myth and Dream
Myths are universal and transcendent through time; many ancient myths are seen
recreated in modern times. The author uses Oedipus as a way of comparing myth to
psychology. Dreams have also played a major role in civilization; the people who
could interpret dreams can understand and create myths.
Dream is the personalized myth (19).
Tragedy and Comedy People have always been fascinated with the tragedy and death
of others. Tragedy is the realizing of the ultimate truth of life, and comedy is finding
the joys of life. Mythology can stem from both tragedy and comedy.
The Hero and the God The author uses the story of the Buddha to state the journey a
hero has to go through to achieve their powers/ability. The hero leaves his
environment, learns or develops, and then returns to spread what he loved. All hero
stories follow the same guidelines.
The World Naval
The World Naval is the birthplace of everything important in the hero story; it is the
center point of the world. It can either create of destroy life and is often represented
by a special symbol.
PART ONE
Chapter 1 Departure
The Call to Adventure
The call to adventure is a big change, often by accident. After the change, the herald
tells the hero about their adventure.
Refusal of the Call
The hero refuses the adventure but becomes trapped either psychologically, or
physically. They
My Grandparent s House Is Not A Safe Haven
Every person is in need of a home. It is a place that feels natural and welcoming. It
instills a sense of belonging. A home doesn t have to be a specific dwelling, for it
has many different definitions and meanings for each individual. What is universal
is the feelings one receives when they are in their home. It is a place that protects
them from the struggles and obstacles that life inevitably thrusts onto people. It is a
safe haven. For me this particular feeling is bestowed upon me every time I step foot
into my grandparents house. My grandparent s house is my home and it will forever
fill me with the unconditional love, happiness and security that my familyhas given
my entire life. My heart is there.

Scientists say smell is the sense that is most associated sense with memory. Every
time I smell fried catfish, I know it will take me home.
Although food isn t the only treasure my home provides me. Home is bathing in the
elegant marble bathtub with its endless overflowing bubbles. This exquisite tub I
named Ol Reliable. Ol Reliable is an XL power jet tub, equipped with gold colored
faucet and golden feet. It is made out of a silky marble finish that was fit for
royalty. Naturally I thought it was the types of bathtubs in Buckingham Palace and
so I felt like the queen herself when I used it. It even had a tempur pedic pillow for
your head, which in the eyes of an eight year old is the most innovative invention
ever seen. Along the edges of the bathtub is shelving for the soaps and other
bathing needs. Bomba has an infinite amount of bath beads, shampoos, loofahs and
even exotic tools such as foot scrubbers with matching foot soap. Of course as a
child I d apply basically everything on my head and throw it into the bathtub. Once
I had every bath accessory at my disposal and a silky pair of my grandmother s
pajamas to put on after, I would be finally ready to add the bubbles. I remember
every time when my grandmother was filling up Ol Reliable, she d say, Only put in
two squirts of bubble bath, remember what happened last time... Well every time I
A Summary OfLetters From The Corrugated Castle
In Letters from the Corrugated Castle, a 13 year old girl named Eldora writes a
series a letters describing everything that is going on in her life. She had believed
for years that her mother had passed away when she was quite young. Eldora lived
with a very nice couple who had been very kind and taken Eldora in as their own.
Eldora called them Aunt and Uncle. At the beginning of the story, Aunt, Uncle, and
Eldora all packed up their belongings from their home in New Bedford,
Massachusetts and left for a new life in the chaotic city of San Francisco, California.
One day, Eldora received a letter from her mother explaining a lot of unanswered
questions. Eldora was thrilled to know that her mother was not dead, and was
alive and quite well. Eldora s mother said that she would soon come by to pay
Eldora a visit and to tell her why she had been unable to care for her the past few
years. However every time she was due to visit, she would have something come
up and not be able to visit. Until after about the 3rd reschedule, when she was
finally able to come into the city for a visit. Eldora was scintillating with happiness
and very eager to see her mother for the first time in what felt like forever. When
she saw her mother and she immediately began to look for every similarity, such as
eyes, voice, hair, even the way that she walked.
Aunt seemed to have quite a few questions about why and how everything had
happened. So mother then told a story of how she
Odysseus And Moses In The Aeneid
Moses in Exodus and Aeneas in the Aeneid are the closest to each other with
regarding leadership. Both men were perceived to be the best leaders for their people
without thinking of their own personal gain. Both of these leaders began their
missions when their people were put into serious danger, which put both of these men
true leadershipabilities to the test. Aeneas and Moseswere two different types of
leaders when it came down to it. Moses and Aeneas both have to deal with the
concept that they both have no sense of free will . They are both being constantly
being toyed and played with by their different version of Gods. Truly, neither one of
them are leaders because they are being lead by their personal gods way of living and
doing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aeneas is already made to be a powerful heroic figure by nature. At the end of the
Aeneid he temporarily loses his heroism and his pietas. The burning of Troy
guards his ability to perform like a natural hero he is. I can tell that his heroism
will be an inner struggle within himself. Aeneas feels like he is no longer in
control of his own destiny. This makes him more of a hero than a leader. He has to
deal with battle everywhere he goes. Aeneas shows his true heroism and leadership
when he choses his duties as a leader over his love for Dido. He has to tell Dido he is
duty bound (973). Aeneas shows compassion and love, which are some rare traits
in heroes. To me, this makes him more of a hero because he can show his
emotions. He felt very guilty and thought he was the reason she took her on life.
Moses is more of a leader than a hero to me. Moses started out as an outsider because
of where he was raised. The same people who pushed him to the outside were the
same people he had to lead. He wads able to push past the barriers of being scared
and the feeling that no one would listen to him. He was able to lead the people and
gain their trust from the Lord s word. Some would say that Moses is a hero because
he split the Red Sea and led the Israelites to freedom. Moses had his doubts and fears
when he is asked to do the job of the Lord intended in him to do. Good leadership is
the ability to bring people to peace. Moses exemplifies instruction in his words and

  • 1. Essay Against Animal Testing Writing an essay on the topic of opposing animal testing can be both challenging and emotionally charged. On one hand, you need to present a compelling argument against the practice, highlighting ethical concerns, the impact on animal welfare, and potential alternatives. On the other hand, it's crucial to maintain a balanced and well-reasoned tone, avoiding emotional appeals that might weaken the overall persuasiveness of your essay. Researching the subject can be difficult, as you need to delve into scientific studies, ethical discussions, and historical contexts surrounding animal testing. This requires a comprehensive understanding of the various perspectives and debates within the field. Additionally, finding credible sources that support your stance while countering potential counterarguments can be time-consuming. Crafting a strong thesis statement that succinctly captures your main argument and outlines the key points of your essay is crucial. It sets the tone for the entire piece and guides your readers through your perspective. Striking the right balance between providing factual information and appealing to the reader's emotions is a delicate task, as you aim to create a persuasive and impactful narrative. Moreover, structuring the essay effectively, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs that logically present your arguments, and a powerful conclusion, adds another layer of complexity. Each paragraph must contribute to the overall coherence and persuasiveness of your essay. Lastly, revising and editing are essential to refine your arguments, check for logical inconsistencies, and ensure clarity in your writing. • 3. Native American Traditions And Traditions Of Clothing,... The Navajos did not make war just to steal and kill; they earned their reputation as warriors fighting to protect their lands, properties, and families and a just cause it was. The Navajo tribe is one of the oldest and is the largest tribe in the United States and branches from the Apache tribe. Their characteristics and traditions of clothing, shelter, and food are still around today. This tribe is known for their peacefulness and religious beliefs and 0many experts consider their lifestyle to have been a wealth of culture. They were resilient and seemed to recuperate from the many hardships they faced, even destitution. Navajo traditions were orally passed on to younger generations from elders, and even other tribes that the navajos branched from. They formed a very distinct type of religion known as the Peyote religion. This religion was unconventional compared to other native american religions. Some of their rituals used in healing members of the tribe could last for days and even over a week. Every aspect of their life involved some type of religious ceremony. When it came to planting crops and harvesting they would pray, sing, and dance to the sun god named Tsohanoai for a bountiful year. Not all followed this religion once Christianity was shared with them. In more modern times between twenty and fifty percent now identify themselves as Christians. Another large part of their religion and beliefs are their healing ceremonies. In 1941 an

  • 5. Database Modeling, System Design, And Improve Performance MODELING As databases and technology have evolved, Elmasri and Navathe point out that increasingly complex data structures for modeling to meet the needs of the more advanced and larger databases that were also beginning to include newer data types (2016). As stated before, with more complex databases, there are more vulnerabilities in security that need to be planned for and mitigated wherever possible. A DBMS is responsible for designing the methods in which data recovery and security is handled, while tools are used within database modeling that facilitate modeling, system design, and improve performance (Elmasri Navathe, 2016). When applying these tools to database creation, security should always be considered in each step of modeling and creating the database. The DBMS provides a security and authorization subsystem to the DBA so that they can use it to create accounts and specify account restrictions (Elmasri Navathe, 2016). AGGREGATION AND INFERENCE Aggregation occurs when a user combines individual pieces of data that they have access to in order to infer more of the bigger picture which they do not have access to, which can happen when a user only has access to some records but draws enough information from the ones they do have access to in order to figure out information that has been deemed off limits to them (Harris, 2002). This is, of course, a potential security risk which should be corrected. On the other hand, knowledge representation techniques,

In the 20th century, when the French Empire was growing, the African arts were brought to Paris museums which made Europeans recognize the work of African artists. The art represented the many forms of art and made other painters felt the ability to use imaginations in their own works. Their artists saw the art as it expresses power in form of emotion. The study on the African art gave a strong response making the artists to show an interest in many forms of art because it demonstrated emotional and psychological power. The different possible interpretations of this song made it one of the most controversial songs from the 1970 s. Don McLean was a famous singer/songwriter who was popular in the 1970 s. His music is mostly classified into rock and roll. The audience of this song can be anyone. The majority of the people listening to the song in the 1970 s were hippies, or people who had open minds. The address to the term, Miss American Pie references a plane that went down killing singer Buddy Holly. The line, The quartet practiced in the park, refers to the famous pop group Beatles who became famous shortly after the death of Holly. All of the other symbolism in this song revolves events that happened around that time of Holly s death. McLean uses informal irony in the tone of the song to convey this deep symbolism. Because of the depth, there is a big controversy on what some of the words represent. Some people even think Miss American Pie represents the civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.. One example of McLean s use of irony is in the story about Holly. The irony comes from how he describes when Holly was younger, he borrowed a coat from James Dean, and then many years later he was a famous singer. McLean uses a subjective point of view as he uses his interpretations, comments, and judgments to appeal to pathos in this song. McLean uses only two of the rhetorical appeals. Ethos is used when he describes the other singers most people know about. And while Lenin read a book on Marx, emphasizes ethos because Lenin was a famous singer who people respect. Pathos was used throughout the whole piece especially when he said the lovers cried and the poets screamed. This quote describes the people s sadness towards the death of Holly, which appeals to the listener in many emotional ways. He also uses

Surface Of Mercury Research Paper The surface of Mercury is very rocky, and has many pits and craters on it due to the large number of meteors that have collided with the surface over the years. According to all all observations that muggle spacecraft has made, the surface of Mercury is dead, with no signs of life or liquid water. This is largely due to its lack of atmosphere and extreme temperatures. Also due to the lack of atmosphere, Mercury has no weather or wind, and the surface has few distinguishing features such as riverbeds or dust storms. These hypotheses explain the origin of biomolecules including amino acids, purines, sugars, and many more. These hypotheses verify the creation of molecules through these various processes. The Iron Sulfur world hypothesis proposes the idea that Chemoautotrophic organisms were the first creations on earth and that they get their energy from the oxidative formation of pyrite. Chemotrophs are organisms that obtain energy by the oxidation of electron donors in their environments. Gunter Wachtershauser is the german scientist who came up with this idea, received on October 30, 1989. Gunter suggested that the organism must be an intermediate of carbon, meaning that it is formed by one reaction and taking part in another, involving carbon. The organism must also be able to acquire electrons and have an irreversible metabolism. • 14. Spirited Away Reflection Hayao Miyazaki s oscar award winning Spirited Away was the first Japanese anime film to win an Oscar. To see how this animated feature film won this grand award, this paper will talk about the writing, music, and sound design of this film. Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 in a town called Akebono cho in BunkyЕЌ, Tokyo. His father ran a business that manufactured plane rudders during World War II. At the age of 3, Miyazaki s family had to evacuate numerous times to escape bombings in their area. Miyazaki aspired to become a manga artist when he was in junior high, but he was not good at drawing people, so instead he drew planes, tanks, and ships. He then got inspired by a movie called Panda and the Magic Serpent (1958) and began to draw more people. Miyazaki s writing tends to be more on the fantasy side. One theme that can be seen throughout his films is the joy and wonder of flying, as Miyazaki himself loves the idea of flying. In most of his more famous films, things start out in a normal and real world setting, and then get whisked away into a new and strange world filled with mystery and wonder. The story of Spirited Awayfollows a ten year old girl named Chihiro, who is currently moving into a new home in a new town in Japan. On their way to the new house, Chihiro s parents find an abandoned temple like structure. The family decides to venture in and investigate the area. Chihiro is cautious and doesn t want to go any further, but the fear of being left alone

I was born in a small town in Colombia, where no more than a hundred families lived. The entire population of my hometown was Catholic. There was a small chapel next to my house and the priest went there once a month to celebrate Mass. He and the seminarians stayed at our home, when they went for the Holy Week and Christmas missions. On Saturdays, my brother and I went to a town an hour away afoot or 20 minutes on a horse, to have further studies. Ninety percent of that town s population were Pentecostal and only 10 % were Catholic. There was a big Pentecostal Church in the middle of the town and a small Catholic church outside the village. My brother and I went to study there on Saturdays because the Pentecostals offered to us a couple of American godparents who sent us gifts twice a year from the US. Nonetheless, to get those gifts we had to attend school on Saturdays, take pictures with the gifts in our hands, and attend the Pentecostal service once a year. During that service, my brother and I laughed the whole time at the people dancing in the church. My aunt, the only Pentecostal member of a family of twelve siblings, got embarrassed for our behavior every time we attended the service. It was very interesting to grow up in a country where almost all the population were Christians and, at least at that time, 92 percent of the 45 million Colombians reported

Symbolism In The Translation Of Dr. Apelles Deep within the forest, destiny brings two young Native American lovers closer together after a series of unforeseen tragedies, but not without the help of nature and the animals within the woods. In the novel, The Translation of Dr. Apelles, specifically within the storyline related to Bimaadiz and Eta, animal imagery for the pair are associated with the hope and love for their relationship while animals for the other villagers relate to violence, these animals are a plot devicethat drive the storyline ensuring that Bimaadiz and Eta remain a couple and eventually marry. Animal symbolism associated with the hope for and love within Bimaadiz and Eta s relationship is seen in their interactions with wolves, deer, moose, and a pack of dogs. Contrastingly, other villages interactions with these animals symbolize violence and oftentimes death. In this novel, animals are used as plot devices to save Bimaadiz and Eta from death and capture. The first experience with animal imagery and Eta in the novel is when her village has died of starvation and as the only survivor she meets a she wolf who she suckles from to survive: With the rough nipple in front of her face, she latched on and began sucking (Treuer 19). If it wasn t for Eta s interaction with the wolf, she would have died. The she wolf was able to save her life and because of that, her story and relationship with Bimaadiz was able to unfold later. The dead villagers have an extremely different interaction with wolves: If there had been anyone to see it, what happened next would have looked like the most awful of massacres...All that remained were the half eaten corpses of the villagers. The bodies were badly damaged along with all the tunics and moccasins and gloves they wore (17 21). Eta s deceased villagers have a more violent experience with the wolves when they are eaten by them. The word massacre and description of half eaten corpses is an indication of the violent nature in which the villagers were eaten by the wolves. It was necessary for Eta survive for her storyline with Bimaadiz to continue, so she was saved by the she wolf but the other villagers were not necessary to the story and suffered a violent end. It is a fact that there are over 60 of them, but the twelve major ones are called the olympians. Most people have probably heard of them at some point in time. Not only are there immortal gods and goddesses, but also there are mortals(half bloods) that became immortal because of something they did. The first two immortals were hera and zeus they were also brother and sister.Their mother was rhea and their father was cronus. Some believe that the reason for this is because they don t live with the olympians for example hades and persephone live in the underworld. The geeks really thought of everything when they thought of what each god or goddess would rule over, and what their children would rule over. They must have studied about their gods and goddesses quit a bit in order to make it this complicated. We should not conceal them from our children, but it is our responsibility to tell the generations to come to praise the Lord about his strength and wondrous works he has done. This is such a good reminder for me! Sometimes we are influenced by the value of this world and we pay too much attentions to teach the children the knowledge of the languages, sciences or arts, but we forget the more important thing is to help our children put their confidence in Godand fear the Lord since they are still young. Why can the Central tower supervise the inmates while the inmates cannot supervise others? Simply because the central tower has the power, for the inmates to be able to observe each other in the same manner would either be inconsequential, or unjust. With crosscutting ties losing their effectiveness in sustaining peaceful relations, death enmity started to thrive. This is a good example demonstrating how culture is integrated by the way that a street can alter other aspects of the Kohistani culture like its subsistence strategy, which in turn affects violence in the Thull. In addition, not only did the emergence of roads bring a change to subsistence practices in Kohistani culture, but also brought a change to the economic system as well. This change was based on cultivating potatoes as a cash crop tied with an amplified quantity of fields that brought a significant influx of money into the community. Additionally, money in the community continued to build even more with the extensive timber exploitation that was occurring, which was the foremost motive of the Pakistan government to build the road. (Nichols, 2012) The essence of the proposal was that by 2025 vehicle manufactures would be offering for sale cars and light trucks that averaged almost 50mpg. This level of fuel economy would result in a projected reduction in national dependencies on almost 4 billion barrels of oil and close to 2 billion tons of greenhouse gases namely carbon dioxide over the life of the new more efficient vehicles. • 42. Willy Loman as Coward in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Willy Loman as Coward in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Everybody feels the penetrating presence of fear throughout life. However, people s reactions to this fear separate the brave souls from the cowards. Mark Twain once said, Courage is resistance to fear; mastery of fear, not absence of fear (Twain 6). In Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman fears rejection by his son, Biff , and the business world. His fears master him, creating in him a fantasy world of life as it was eighteen years ago. Willy s avoidance of reality and his suicide show his cowardice. However, the emphasis he puts on financial success prevents him from realizing the consequences that his suicide would create. Willy s refusal to face ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Willy believes that his family will appreciate the twenty thousand dollars insurance money they will receive as a result of his death. However, his motives involve more than helping with finances. Willy thinks his funeral will prove his greatness to Biff. In a daydream, Willy tells his brother, Ben, That funeral will be massive! . . . He ll see what I am, Ben! He s in for a shock, that boy! (Miller 1275). Willy disregards the fact that establishing a relationship with Biff will affect him more than money. His cowardice causes him to believe that suicide is the only way to gain his son s respect. Throughout the play, Willy s ideas of happiness prevent him from realizing that his acts are cowardly. To him, financial success embodies happiness. His comparisons of himself to others show his idealizations. Mainly, he idolizes Ben, who walked into Africa at age seventeen and walked out four years later as a wealthy man. Willy also compares himself to Dave Singleman, a salesman he met on the road early in his career. Dave prospered as a salesman even at age eighty four. Willy asks his boss, Howard, What could be more satisfying than to be able to go, at the age of eighty four, into twenty or thirty different cities, and pick up a phone, and be remembered and loved and helped by so many different people? (Miller 1251). Due to his belief that money creates happiness, Willy feels that money will mend the broken
  • 43. The Current Financial Crisis Essay Frederic Mishkin makes the point in the text, The Economics of Money Banking, and Financial Markets (2010) that Banks and other financial institutions are what make financial markets work. Without them, financial markets would not be able to move funds from people who save to people who have productive investment opportunities. (p.7). The movement of funds between savers and those with productive investment opportunities is the means of creating growth. When people lose confidence in the economy this activity freezes or weakens, consequently, asset prices decline, unemployment rises and companies default as was the case of Lehman Brothers in 2008. The freezing of the flow of money is a financial crisis. Today, the global flow of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Europe and China are major economies that impact the world. Europe s challenges with the Euro are complicated. The United States congress had trouble agreeing to enact legislature to raise its debt ceiling in order to meet its obligations and maintain its credit ratings. In Europe, separate countries need to agree to come together with a combined political will to stabilize countries and banks in financial trouble. Without the power to print money individually, each country under the single currency must come together under combined policies. Today, Europe seems willing to reach combined policy decisions to avoid an economic disaster. Ultimately, if this happens, the Euro will have a stronger future just as the United States gained a stronger political and financial system from policies created as a result of the Great Depression. If Europe fails to come to agreement on combined policies to solve the European Debt Crisis the world will realize the financial risks. Direct exposure is already being seen in the financial institutions. MF Global recently filed for bankruptcy. Exposure to European bonds brought down a $41B firm just 3 weeks after a European bank failure. Repo to maturity contacts. Falling bond values created the need for more collateral in this type of financial instrument. Firms with similar investments could see greater risk if interest rates rise and bond values fall. The Hero With A Thousand Faces Cooper Clarke English 4 Period 2 Mr. McQueary 8/22/14 The Hero with a Thousand Faces Prologue The Monomyth Myth and Dream Myths are universal and transcendent through time; many ancient myths are seen recreated in modern times. The author uses Oedipus as a way of comparing myth to psychology. Dreams have also played a major role in civilization; the people who could interpret dreams can understand and create myths. Dream is the personalized myth (19). Tragedy and Comedy People have always been fascinated with the tragedy and death of others. Tragedy is the realizing of the ultimate truth of life, and comedy is finding the joys of life. Mythology can stem from both tragedy and comedy. The Hero and the God The author uses the story of the Buddha to state the journey a hero has to go through to achieve their powers/ability. The hero leaves his environment, learns or develops, and then returns to spread what he loved. All hero stories follow the same guidelines. The World Naval The World Naval is the birthplace of everything important in the hero story; it is the center point of the world. It can either create of destroy life and is often represented by a special symbol. PART ONE Chapter 1 Departure The Call to Adventure The call to adventure is a big change, often by accident. After the change, the herald tells the hero about their adventure. Refusal of the Call The hero refuses the adventure but becomes trapped either psychologically, or physically. They

A home doesn t have to be a specific dwelling, for it has many different definitions and meanings for each individual. What is universal is the feelings one receives when they are in their home. Ol Reliable is an XL power jet tub, equipped with gold colored faucet and golden feet. It is made out of a silky marble finish that was fit for royalty. Naturally I thought it was the types of bathtubs in Buckingham Palace and so I felt like the queen herself when I used it. It even had a tempur pedic pillow for your head, which in the eyes of an eight year old is the most innovative invention ever seen. Along the edges of the bathtub is shelving for the soaps and other bathing needs. • 47. Odysseus And Moses In The Aeneid Moses in Exodus and Aeneas in the Aeneid are the closest to each other with regarding leadership. Both men were perceived to be the best leaders for their people without thinking of their own personal gain. Both of these leaders began their missions when their people were put into serious danger, which put both of these men true leadershipabilities to the test. Aeneas and Moseswere two different types of leaders when it came down to it. Moses and Aeneas both have to deal with the concept that they both have no sense of free will . They are both being constantly being toyed and played with by their different version of Gods. Truly, neither one of them are leaders because they are being lead by their personal gods way of living and doing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aeneas is already made to be a powerful heroic figure by nature. At the end of the Aeneid he temporarily loses his heroism and his pietas. The burning of Troy guards his ability to perform like a natural hero he is. I can tell that his heroism will be an inner struggle within himself. Aeneas feels like he is no longer in control of his own destiny. This makes him more of a hero than a leader. He has to deal with battle everywhere he goes. Aeneas shows his true heroism and leadership when he choses his duties as a leader over his love for Dido. He has to tell Dido he is duty bound (973). Aeneas shows compassion and love, which are some rare traits in heroes. To me, this makes him more of a hero because he can show his emotions. He felt very guilty and thought he was the reason she took her on life. Moses is more of a leader than a hero to me. Moses started out as an outsider because of where he was raised. The same people who pushed him to the outside were the same people he had to lead. He wads able to push past the barriers of being scared and the feeling that no one would listen to him. He was able to lead the people and gain their trust from the Lord s word. Some would say that Moses is a hero because he split the Red Sea and led the Israelites to freedom. Moses had his doubts and fears when he is asked to do the job of the Lord intended in him to do. Good leadership is the ability to bring people to peace. Moses exemplifies instruction in his words and
