This time I decided to try a search using downsizing of the military as a starting
point. I immediately came across an article in The Washington Times that gave me
some insight about issues with having a smaller military and handling a global
/world war. The article pointed out that we as a military would have no problem
supporting small strike forces, but, if there were to be more than one major global
conflict happening at the same time, we as a military would not have the personnel
needed to support both conflicts. I knew I could trust where this information was
coming from seeing as it was coming from the Army Chief of Staff General Mark

Religion in the modern world is inescapable. Even if an individual does not consider
oneself to be religious they are constantly surrounded by its presence due to the
influence religion has had on society. Even though the United States proclaims in the
constitution that individuals have the freedom to practice their own religion, in many
cases the minority religions are belittled and the individuals who practice those
religions are disproportionately prosecuted. This is the case seen in the the novel
The Plague of Doves written by Louise Erdrich, when four Indian men are hung
because of their beliefs. Now this behavior in the United States is denied because it is
assumed that all americans stand by the equality of the constitution. Whereas in other
countries, such as in Latin America, there are not necessarily constitutions to openly
defile but minorities are still oppressed because of their religion. Oppression of the
indigenous peoples, because of their religious beliefs, is seen in the novel Deep
Rivers by Jose Maria Arguedas. These novels entwine religion and its oppressive
power by illustrating the individual components of oppression: the oppressors, those
being oppressed, and how opression still resonates in society.
The definition of an oppressor is a person or group that subjects others to unjust
treatment or control. In Deep Rivers the character who embodies the role of an
oppressor is the Old Man. Ernesto meets the Old Man when he and his father
travel to Cuzco. Ernesto depicts the Old Man s vast wealth and how he treats his
brother, Ernesto s father, with very little respect. This blatant lack of respect
becomes apparent when the Old man sends his relatives to sleep in the filthy
kitchen, he had had us sent to the kitchen of his house (17). Ernesto is of the opinion
that, This man could not have been more wicked or powerful than my guardian with
the eyebrows that met over his nose, who had also made me sleep in the kitchen
(17). What really conflicts Ernesto is that he knew that the covent friars prepared
gran evening receptions for [the Old Man], that the clergy greeted him in the streets
(17). This comment serves as evidence to make the connection that this oppressor is a
religious man

53. My Wonder Woman
My Everyday Wonder Woman My mom has always been a superhero in my eyes
ever since I was a little kid. She continually amazes me with her talents, and her
hardworking nature. There are many words I could use to describe her, however
Wonder Woman does a good job of summing it up. Although she doesn t carry a
sword gifted by Zeus, or a golden lasso that forces you to tell the truth, my mom
has a lot of similarities with the Wonder Woman movie s Diana Prince. For
example, both women don t understand society, have high morals, and are strong
natured. In the movie, Diana Prince left the only home she had ever known. She
knew that she would never be able to return to the secluded island where all of her
friends and family lived. She was taken into the heart of London. The city had no
beauty compared to her island with the clear blue water and the green mountains.
In London people buzzed in the busy streets. The air was polluted with a grey
smog that hung over the city like a sad cloud. Diana being thrown into a completely
different culture was perplexed. When they went shopping for clothes she didn t
understand how people could wear such over the top attire that was popular in that
day, or how people were supposed to fight in a full length skirt with heels. Although
her partner, Steve Trevor, tried to explain to her what was going on, she did not
grasp the quirky ways of London. My mom, like Diana, has a difficult time
understanding society. She is often confused about the

be effective. The less intrusive the policy, the more likely it will be accepted by
students and parents and pass a constitutional challenge. In Sacremento, California at
Del Oro High School, all students are tested for alcohol consumption when they enter
school dances. Though the program poses constitutional questions, there have been
no legal challenge and parents seem to embrace the program at the school. The
principal reached out to all stakeholders and received overwhelming support in the
new policy. He felt the new policy increased student attendance to school dances and
felt the peer pressure students might have once felt when confronted with alcohol
was no longer there. The only grumbling he reports of hearing is the occasional
complaint of the time it takes to enter the dance. At Downingtown High School West
Campus, in Pennsylvania, administrators have gone one step further and required
parents and students sign an agreement prior to attending a dance

On May 19,1930 a set of events was set in motion that an inspiration and touching to
many. May 19,1930 Lorraine Vivian Hansberry was born in Chicago, Illinois, she
was the youngest of four kids. Her parents were Nannie and Carl Augustus
Hansberry.Nannie and Carl Hansberry were independent, politically active and
Republican. Growing up she dealt with many problems involving her race, her family
was victims of segregation. The effects of her childhood greatly affected how she
went on about her life.
In 1950 she decided to take a leap of faith and try to pursue a career of being a writer.
She moves out to New York City and starts going to The New School but only one
year later she moves out to Harlem so involve herself in the activist struggles. In

opened off Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre and ran for eight months.
In 1973 A Raisin in the Sun opened in theaters in New York. A Raisin in the Sun
won a tony award for best musical and went on broadway in 2004 and received a
tony award nomination for best revival of a play. In 1999 Hansberry was
posthumously inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame. In 2013,
Lorraine Hansberry was posthumously inducted into the American Theatre Hall of

Any knowledge obtained, or currently being obtained, through the use of animals is
beneficial to furthering the human understanding of medicine (Greek et al. 15).
Throughout history, animal experimentation has been a key component in
understanding the fundamentals of human life. Kay Peggs argues that virtually every
major medical advance of the last century is due, in part, to research with animals
(624). Before recent times, scientists could easily dissect animals strictly for
exploration and curiosity (Greek et al. 15). The knowledge gained from animal
experimentation has helped scientists get desired results without causing direct harm
to humans. Without animal experimentation, medicine and education would be in the
dark ages.
In today s times, using animals for medical research and education is a highly
controversial issue. Some believe that it is not justifiable to use animals to serve as
human models. They argue that humans are the best models for human disease and
treatment efficacy, not animals. However, humans cannot be test subjects for the
benefit of society without volunteering to participate and fully understanding the
question being researched. This is for all human beings, including prisoners, the
