2. Sigmund Freud And Carl Jung

Freud vs. Jung
One repays a teacher badly if one remains only a pupil. And why, then, should you not pluck at
my laurels? You respect me; but how if one day your respect should tumble? Take care that a
falling statue does not strike you dead! You had not yet sought yourselves when you found me.
Thus do all believers Now I bid you lose me and find yourselves; and only when you have all
denied me will I return to you.
(Nietzsche Quoted by Jung to Freud, 1912), [McGuire, 1974]
Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung became friends in 1907 during what were turning points in both of
their lives. There was a twenty year age gap between the two men, Freud being fifty one and ...

Through Jung s studies on word association, Freud was able to further link to experimental
psychology. He was then able to express his ideas about the psychodynamics of culture and
religion (Gay, 1988; Jones, 1955; Kerr, 1993). The relationship was not without benefits for Jung.
Jung was able to broaden his thoughts on the etiology and treatment of neurosis and psychosis.
This gave Jung a political card to play in the international psychoanalytical movement. Upon
meeting Freud, Jung was already a promising psychiatrist with a gift for psychological research.
He was a prestigious junior appointment at one of the top centers in Europe that treated psychotic
disorders before meeting Freud. (Kerr, 1993). In 1913, Jung had broken away from Freud and was
by then internationally known for original contributions to clinical psychology and for his
leadership of the psychoanalytic movement. In 1912, Jung authored a book called Transformations
and Symbols of Libido (Jung 1912). This marked his independence from the movement.
The reasons for the break up between Freud and Jung is many, but their contradicting views in their
science were likely the crumbling of their foundation. (Billinsky, J.M. (1969) Jung and Freud: The
End of a Romance)

Ancient egyptian aliens, the whole subject seems pretty far fetched but is it really as out there as
we think it is? Archaeologists find evidence regularly at famous egyptian landmarks of
extraterrestrial presence. So much infact that it has lead scientists to wonder, were the ancient
egyptians really alone in the desert? What put the egyptians so far ahead of the the rest of the
world, with their structures and technology? Recent discoveries are showing that they not only
had control of advanced medicine, but they also had a sophisticated social structure. Many places
around the world have been shown with this advancement, a more popular example would be
Atlantis. With their advanced and highly valued metals, Atlantis was a hotspot for cultural mixing.
So if all of this happened and yet we still don t have any clear cut proof. Except for the pyramids.

How is all of this possible? Well considering that the pyramids are position in such a pattern only

Students Should Be Allowed to Use Personal Electronics in Class
As technology keeps advancing and becoming more influential in our lives, the question that arises
is whether or not it should be used in education. Should students be allowed to bring in and use
their personal electronic devices in class? Some people believe that the use of personal electronics
in class is disruptive. School should be a place where children learn to socialize and develop their
thinking abilities along with other necessary life qualities; yet electronic devices limit the
development of those essential characteristics. However, although many people believe that this
integration is detrimental, many others still see great benefits to implementing technolo

Roschelle s words do not only apply to computers but also to personal laptops, iPads, and
cellphones. There are also students that are more auditory learn ers, these online books bring
options in which the student can listen to the material. In class teachers can let their students use
headphones and listen to the textbook on their own devices.
Students can also look up key words easily by typing them in to the glossary or the search bar in the
book. Already those are many advantages that students cannot get when learning from only their
textbooks. Sarah Henderson and Jeff Yeow state that, a lot of educational technology is built from a
behaviorist perspective. Behaviorism posits that learning is manifested by a change in behavior,
and that the environment determines these changes (iPad education, 1, 2). The en vironment has
obviously been changing over the past 20 years. It has brought us some excellent and modern
changes to educate our children through the use of electronic devices and we should definitely take
advantage of this.
In 2002, people thought that these devices were not making communication efficient.

5. Positive And Negative Effects Of Absolutism In Europe
During the 16th century to the 18th century, Monarchs in Europe used absolutism. Monarchs such
as King Louis and Peter The Great used absolute tactics because they wanted to consolidate power
from the nobility. They wanted to consolidate power from the nobility because they wanted to take
the power they lost during the middle ages. King Louis and Peter the Great used all multiple means
to reclaim power. They used their power to glorify themselves and their country. The practice of
absolutism can be argued to have both positive and negative effects.
King Louis XIV of France used absolute tactics. He used absolute tactics from the late 17th century
to the early 18th century. What does king Louis do to create absolutism? King Louis creates
absolutism by building the most brilliant court ever known to Europe, Versailles. He built the
court because he wanted the nobility to live there. They didn t really have a choice because he
commanded them to leave their castles in the country. King Louis wanted the nobility to live with
him because he wanted to watch over them. He wanted to watch over them because he wanted to
take their power. Without knowing it, the nobility challenged each other. They all fell into the
habit of trying to please him. It was very unwise to be disobedient or disrespectful to him while
living at Versailles (DOC 2). King Louis wanted absolute power because he wanted to be the one

6. Effect Of Substrate Concentration On Enzyme Activity
The Effect of Environmental Conditions on Enzyme Activity
Ikram Hassan
SBI3UW 02
November 13, 2017.
Research Question: What is the effect of substrate concentration (as measured in % concentration)
on the rate of enzyme activity (as calculated by the dividing the measured distance in cm, +/ 0.1
cm, travelled by a substance in a manometer by the time in seconds, +/ 0.5 seconds)?
Background:
A substrate is a molecule which is acted upon by an enzyme. For a chemical reaction to occur
through enzyme, substrate molecules bind to the active site of an enzyme, which contains residues
that catalyse the reaction of the substrate.
Hypothesis: If the concentration of the substrate is increased, then the rate of enzyme activity will
decrease. This is because as the concentration of the substrate increases, there is an increasing
amount of occupied active sites at any given moment. This will cause a decrease in the rate of
enzyme activity as substrate active site collisions are increasingly slowed down thus bringing down
the rate of enzyme activity.
Variables:
Independent: Substrate Concentration: Throughout the experiment, the concentration of the
substrate used will be increased in order to determine the effect of an increase of substrate
concentration on enzyme activity. The substrate throughout the experiment will be a hydrogen
peroxide solution and an original 30% concentration will be diluted with water into 10% and 5%
concentrations in order to observe the effect of

7. Was The American Civil War Inevitable
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.
Abraham Lincoln was possibly the most intellectual and determined man in office that our world
has ever seen. With a driven passion for equality and success, it s no wonder that you could love
him; or hate him. Slaverywas one of our country s biggest disagreements in our nation. Slavery is
credited by most historians to be the cause of the United StatesCivil War that took place over one
hundred and fifty years ago. North and South, Confederation and Union, and Johnny Reb and Billy
Yank battled it out for four grueling years. Was this war even fighting if it incurred so many deaths,
especially the most important man in our country? Unfortunately, the answer is yes because we
went through many years of compromise , slavery was a huge moral issue, and the economic
differences the north and south had. War was inevitable. The North and South were polar opposite
when it came to the economy. The South relied heavily on the production of a cash crop: cotton.
Cotton was the biggest crop being produced at the time next to some other notable ones such as
tobacco and indigo. On the other hand, the North was a more industrial flowing economy,
producing cloth and textiles from intricate machines. The nation was not flowing... Show more

8. Analysis Of The Movie The Halls Of The Montezumas By...
The Mexican War was a test to the belief that the United States had about itself and its destiny of
gaining land. The book To the Halls of the Montezumas by Robert W. Johannsen demonstrates the
way in which race interweaves with the war, with Americans not just viewing Mexicans as inferior,
but as superior to others themselves, functioning independent of any other race. The victories
against Mexicosimply support the argument; the demeaning of Mexicans was another way to
justify the military actions. The overblown ego and sense of the entitlement that the United States
has is what makes the territorial expansion, and the means through which it acquires land,
seemingly in the American spirit. This attitude is fitting with its actions.
It was the early victories that the United States experienced that at first was shocking, but then
gave credence to the belief of the inferiority of Mexicans. As the contact and fighting between the
United States and Mexico grew, so did the justifications in the racial superiority of the Americans .
It is with this confidence that people began to feel that they could accurately point to the problem
of Mexicans, mainly that they seemed a combination of all different races, the worse qualities of
each being the ones that remained . This belief that the white population of the United States, as a
whole, was comprised of a better people was confirmed by the Army as it encountered them
militarily and culturally as it marched deeper into the country.

10. State Intervention Essay
State interventions become complex when the severity of the illness is considered. If a child is
ill, but not ill enough, the state is unable to intervene on the child s behalf. It is only when the
child becomes life threateningly ill that the state is able to step in (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 322). The
inclusion of potentially disabling and disfiguring illnesses has been proposed (Hirasawa, 2006, p.
324). The severity of illness complicates state intervention further when the child is stricken with a
fatal illness that has a treatment but only provides a small chance of survival. The state has to

minors and their parents (Woolley, 2005, p. 717). Minors are refused the right to make their own
decisions based on the assumption that they are immature and therefore do not possess the
decision making capacities to make a rational choice (Chen, 2007, p. 645). Current State
Interference The state currently interferes in a variety of manners that might be considered
parenting decisions. The state mandates compulsory vaccinations, education, and adherence to
labor laws (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 319). Children of parents who refuse vaccinations because of
religion are banned from school until the vaccination requirement is met (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 320).
Sanctions such as this are in place to protect society, as one is not allowed to act in a manner that
compromises the rights of others (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 320). In addition, the state influences diet,
safety standards for car seats, and curfews (Herrera, 2005, p. 825). These subtle controls over
behavior go relatively unnoticed until religion is involved, then they become more noteworthy.
Inconsistencies in the Law The law demonstrates inconsistencies in written laws, enforcement, and
prosecution. As previously stated, every province has different laws regarding religious

Do you believe minors need supervision to make sure they don t do anything? Yummy is about
a kid name Robert Sandifer who is 11 years old and had been involved in a gang named the Black
Disciples, and he tried to prove himself by shooting a rival gang member. When doing that, he
missed and shot Shavon Dean and killed her. After that he had been on the run for a long time
trying to get away from the cops. His own gangmembers had believed that he had drawn too
much attention to their gang the Black Disciples and eventually murdered him. The vignette
There Was An Old Woman is about how this woman named Rosa Vargas had lots of kids. Her
kids did whatever they wanted, Angel Vargas believed that he could fly and jumped of the roof
and killed himself. The overall message of Sandra Cisneros and Gregory Neri of these two stories
was that minors need supervision so they will not do things that can lead to horrible things
happening.

Classical Criminology
The classical school of criminology was around in the eighteenth century. It came abount in a time
when the previous dominent spiritual look at defining crime and criminal behaviour was being

The classical school was the established ideas of monarchs, fedual lords and the fathers of the
church. The main pioneers of the classical school were Cesar Beccaria ( 1738 1974) from Italy and
Jeremy Bantham from Britain (1948 1832). From them writing their theories in the eighteenth

to getting what we need. Responsibility the classical school believed that if we do something
wrong or do something at the expence of someone we should be able to own up and take
responsibilty for our own actions. Also they believed that punishment was a good way to show
potential offenders what would happen to them if they behaved in a criminal way. They believed
that anyone who breaks the law should be punished to pay the price. They thought that the crime
and he punishment must be linked. They believed that the punishment should be in proportian to
the crime in order for the offender to think about what he has done. for example, if someone is
caught steeling 3000 pounds, then he should be made to pay back 4000 pound fine back. Or stay
in prison for the same ammount of time that the person would have taken to earn the 3000
pounds. Cesear Beccaria believed that there should be a fixed punishment for crimes written into
the law and not be changed. He believed that all people should be trated equally and the
punishments should not be changed from person to person. His theory can be summerised into the

library has a computer search directory; anyone can consult the library catalog with library

Individual Assignment

Summary of Discussion
The paper exemplifies the unethical behavior of the Volkswagen Group. The poor decision making
from the top executives caused the engineers to suffer as they questioned their own moral
principles. It resulted in the engineers failure to meet the standard set out by the Statement of
Ethical Principles. Finally, the paper discusses what engineers could have done despite the
constraints the engineers of Volkswagenmight have been under.
Background of Incident
In September 2015, The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found defeat device installed in
Volkswagen vehicles sold in the United States (US), which resulted in violating the Clean Air Act.
This device was installed in the diesel engines of the cars. It had the capability to not only detect
when the car was being tested for emissions, but to improve emission results in order to pass
emission standards in the US. As a result, EPA issued a Notice of Violation to Volkswagen.

this may be disheartening to most, but I assure you that this is in a state of severe shortages, and
as I mentioned before, our price ceiling will much further above the equilibrium line, therefore
the chances of that being an issue are rather low. So to be clear on this, our price will be set at
$2.80 maximum per gallon. That way, the free market can continue to function, and will relieve a

Note: Regardless of how tempting it sounds, never eat fruit bats or antelope. In African countries,
these animals are delicacies, but have also been identified as potential carriers of Ebola.
According to NPR writer Michaeleen Doucleff, fruit bat and antelope meat are believed to be
hosts for Ebola (Doucleff). Not only can their meat be infected, but they can also contaminate fruit
and pass the virus onto its consumer. Recent research studies have shown that the infection has the
ability to coexist and replicate in bats but will not kill them nor will it cause them to show any sign
of infection, making them the perfect carriers (Leroy et al. 575).
The sneezing, the coughing, the congestion, the feeling of an elephant sitting on your chest...
having a common cold is a form of terror in it of itself. What if this virus could affect thousands at

spread a far more fatal virus, such as Ebola? With the recent outbreak, scientists are beginning to
direct their attention to a new threat... the possibility of an Ebola bomb.
In his interview with Great Britain s The Sun , Cambridge University Professor Peter Walsh stated
A bigger and more serious risk is that a group manages to harness the virus as a powder,

Dynamic web application is developed and deployed to provide immediate services and increase
the customer base through means of world wide web. Tasks like accepting user details and storing

HTML tags, scripting functions, asynchronous JavaScript and XML(AJAX) technologies help web
development to produce versatile web application, vulnerabilities and shortcomings are exploited
by hackers to compromise both innocent client and company property. The growing trend of
increasing attacks through Cross Site Scripting (XSS) and SQL Injection methods lends itself to
the effectiveness of damage caused by such attacks, inherent weakness found in client side scripting

Security Assertion Markup Language is an Extensible Markup Language (XML) standard that lets a
user to log on once for associated but different Web sites. SAML is intended for business to
business and business to consumer transactions (Rouse, 2008). SAML states three components:
assertions, protocol, and binding, and authentication, attribute, and authorization are the three
assertions. Authentication assertion verifies the user s identity. Attribute assertion has detailed data
about the user. And authorization assertion checks what the user is authorized to do.
Features
SAML has many good features that we all can take advantages of. One of its features is that it
supports single sign on with numerous identity benefactors. Another one is that it also supports
alternatives for identity assertion and mapping the assertion identity to the user registry of the
service provider. Also, according to IBM SAML Single Sign on Scenarios, Features, and
Limitations (2016), SAML service provider can map or assert SAML token attributes to the realm,
principal, unique Id, and group, and set them into the service provider security context. It gives a
plug point to allow for customized identity mapping.
Usage

26. Essay on Sigmund Freud on Human Nature
Sigmund Freud, a noteworthy trailblazer of modern day philosophy, developed a deterministic
view on human nature based on instinct and personality. Unlike other theories, Freud considers us
not as humans, but animals with inborn biological drives: a complex species with primitive
urges. These urges, he says, are only kept under control by the pressures between peers and the
repression of society. Though the word instinct can relate to a wide range of impulses, Freud
narrowed it down to four main drives: Self preservation, aggression, the need for love, and the
impulse to attain pleasure and avoid pain. These topics along with the model of the psyche
embedded within the principles of pleasure and civilization form the most... Show more content on

Passions, on the other hand, are a bit more complicated. In simple terms, men are so entirely
governed by instinctual wishes that they often overlook their sense of reason. This claim is
exemplified in the phrase love is blind. When two lovers are so encompassed by their relationship it
is not uncommon for one of the two to make a few questionable decisions. Arguments of reason
then relate to the idea of intellect. The voice of intellect is soft, but persistent which in turn
provides optimism for the future of mankind. This optimism, however, dwindles in the fact that
men have gained control and power over nature, granting them the ability to exterminate one
another if they chose to. The awareness of this power results in unrest, unhappiness, and anxiety.
Subsequently, this leads to Freud s idea of Defense mechanisms and the Ego which will be
discussed further along in this essay. In general, Freud claims that civilization has its own influence
on human nature, providing guidelines to follow and morals standards to maintain.
In addition to civilization, Freud expands his view of human nature according to pleasure.
According to the Beyond the Pleasure Principle, hunger and love regulate the world. Though the
original thought was taken from Schiller, Freud applies it to the core instincts he believes to sum up
human nature. Hunger represents the instincts which aim at preservation of the self while love
strives after objects and preservation of the

Teams take on all shapes and sizes. It seems as if you don t have to look very far to see both the
importance and impact that teams have on almost every aspect of life as we know it. Those who
learn how to properly harness the power of teamwork understand how it can create an incredible
opportunity and potential for progress and accomplishment. Teams that find the ability to work
together with a sense of unity and common vision seem to produce at high levels of effectiveness.
Teamwork also, however, can create environments where conflict and challenge can easily arise
and hinder the ability to work together with effectiveness. Patrick Lencioni states, As difficult as it
is to build a cohesive team, it is not complicated. As simple as it may be, for many leaders the
ability to build, develop and properly utilize teams is a challenge. For church ministry leaders, the
ability to build and develop teams and manage conflict are vital skill sets that must be invested in
to understand and develop. In the pages ahead I plan to explore from a biblical perspective of why
the building and development of teams is so important, and some of the challenges that

28. The Importance Of Sea Temperature Anomalies
The oceans play an important role in the climate system owing to the interannual and longer
timescale variability in sea surface temperature (SST). Hasselmann (1976) proposed that this
climate variability could be represented by a stochastic first order auto regressive process
(AR1 process) and should be considered as the null hypothesis for extra tropical sea surface
temperature anomalies (SSTA). According to this concept, SSTAs quickly responds to the
atmospheric heat fluxes at short time period and the heat capacity of the ocean integrates the
SSTA variability on a longer time period. Frankignoul and Hasselmann (1977) have further
suggested that the atmospheric forcing for SST anomalies follows a spectrum of white noise with
constant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus the broad structure of the SSTA spectrum is determined by the depth of the ocean ML and
atmospheric process.
Attempts to include additional processes, such as Ekman transport, entrainment of sub mixed
layer thermal anomalies (Dommenget and Latif 2002; Deser et al. 2003; Lee et al. 2008), state
dependent noise (Sura et al. 2005) and the re emergence associated with seasonal change in MLD
(Schneider and Cornuelle 2005) has shown to increase the SSTA varianceat annual and longer
timescales. However, studies have demonstrated that the SST variability at some part of the oceans
cannot be represented by a simple AR1 process (Hall and Manabe
1997; Dommenget and Latif 2002, 2008). The inconsistency arises from the exchange of heat
energy in the mixed layer and sub mixed layer in the ocean.
The strong seasonal cycle of the MLD can strengthen the persistence of SSTA from one winter to
the following. The timescale in which the subsurface temperature anomalies entrain to the surface
(nearly 1 year) is expected to influence the spectral variance of SSTA. Möller et al. (2008) have
shown a peak in the annual time period in the power spectrum of midlatitude
SSTA that is associated with the re emergence. Figure 5.3 illustrates the power spectrum of
SSTA and 90% significance level (shaded), presented in different ways (taken from Moller et al.
(2008)). Figure 5.3a express the spectral variance density, while figure 5.3b

Growing project complexity demands more efficient way to manage communication and

Agile project managementthat has been given as much attention in the recent years is in growing
popularity for the next decades. Slightly updated, agile project management would take a hybrid
form. Therefore, project team is willing to combine agile with a traditional principles of PM to
create personalized hybrids. As before, the central point of Project Management Offices (PMO)
attention remains the question of measurements the effectiveness and result of the project.
Previously, the main focus was on input factors (reduced time and cost), today the attention is
given to the output factor recipient or client. The new definition of project success is that project
can exceed its time and cost estimates so long as the clients determines that it is successful by
whatever criteria they use. Thus, the project value is determined by the recipient not by provider

up Israel as a whole, here the writer says, In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did
what was right in his own eyes (Judges 21:25). After this the children of Israel desired to have a
king so that they would be like everyone else. Samuel the prophet went to the Lord in prayer and

during the time they were united there were three different kings Saul, David, and Solomon.
Solomon was the last king to reign during the time of the United Kingdom. However, since he

I would go a step further to say that it seems like the author has taken the metaphors a bit too
seriously and would agree with Mark s comment in Lawyers in the Perfect Storm3 that her
insistence on comparison of the Enron scandal to the tragicomedy of human errors in the sinking of
the Titanic underestimates the importance of the systemic failures that allowed the malign
leadership of Enron to produce such an enormous disaster. Nevertheless, she develops her further
argument well as she explores the inextricable link between Character and Leadership. She
elaborates on the inevitable failure of character in Enron leaders to resist illegal deals when the
supervisors of those leaders were also engaging in side deals (pg 209). Her close attention to the
underlying conflict of human traits and situations, aggravated by the magnitude of profits offered
by the Enron culture justifies her statement, why it must have taken significant strength of character
to resist getting on that gravy train (pg 210).

Also, he added, that he accepts responsibility for any misuse of funds. The principals in our

New firms lacking this versatility may find an obstacle upon entry to the industry (Hersch, 2012).
Additionally, firms in this industry must specialize in exploration and discovery for oil and gas
resources. Firms may struggle finding initial success in this role due to the limited nature of
resources.
Long term Resource Depletion
Peak oil refers to the prime of any field s production, after which goes into terminal decline. Most
major US oil fields are beyond peak oil. The largest US oil field, Prudhoe Bay, has been depleting
since 1979 (Prudhoe, 2012). The US Energy Information Administration indicates much
production, particularly in the Alaskan North Slope, depends on world oil prices (Energy, 2012).
Geophysicists and politicians debate over specifications regarding overall US peak oil, arguing the

In addition to the US peak oil situation, the US Oil Drilling and Gas Extraction Industry faces
heavy foreign market competition. In 2011, the US ranked 3rd in oil production, behind Saudi

role, and the other the mediator s approach to the problem. When these two lines intersect, there are
four quadrants which represent different mediation situations. Riskin stated that the four quadrants
each represent a general location toward mediation: evaluative narrow, facilitative narrow,
