Morality of Human Cloning Essay
The novel Brave New World presents us with a vision of a future where human beings are no
longer born the natural way but are rather manufactured in identical batches to certain
specifications. Where concepts like mother and father are scatological and children are taught only
to keep the order and complete their predetermined occupations. By the end of the novel Mr.
Huxley has us thankful that such a world is beyond our grasp. However, with the successful cloning
of a Scottish sheep named Dolly, images of a Brave New World became so much closer to
reality. Even just the word clone can summon dark images of lines of identical individuals with
bar codes tattooed on their necks walking in lock step fashion and it is due in no small... Show more

Can we not also add a cloned child to the roster and still be ignorant of their origin? As unnerving
as it might appear the method of procreation is completely arbitrary, more so ought we to be
concerned with the intent of procreation if we must lay a blame. Physically a cloned child is no
different from you or me but can we say that the child is any less human from extra physical loss?
Whether or not a clone would be less than human begs us that we ought first discern what it is that
defines a person as a person. Detailing free will and individualistic identity necessitate the ability to
be self aware and to make decisions without requiring outside influence which, compose the basis of
what delineates a human person. The problem of identity sometimes arises with identical twins in
that we many times ascertain them to be the same person due merely to their often indistinguishable
appearance. Experience however tells us that even though they have the same genetic profile they
constitute discrete identities. A clone, against our intuitions, would not have the same identity as
the one from whom they were cloned and additionally even were one to take a person and subject
them to one scenario they would end up completely different than if you had subjected them in a

Distinguished American author and intellectual Kurt Vonnegut stated the following about
glorification of war: Perhaps, when we remember wars, we should take off our clothes and paint
ourselves blue and go on all fours all day long and grunt like pigs. That would surely be more
appropriate than noble oratory and shows of flags and well oiled guns. (Cat s 147) World War II
is one of the most significant memories of the twentieth century. It has impacted the collective
consciousness of all Americans, but none more than the soldiers, just out of childhood, who fought
and died in it. Vonnegut experienced the horrors of war like few others, as an American prisoner

Sheri Metzger Karmiol, a professor of literature at the University of New Mexico view s Cat s
Cradle as a call to action, In many ways, Cat s Cradle is an expression of Vonnegut s belief that
writers have a responsibility to alert their readers to injustice, danger, and the need for social
change. The narrative focuses primary on the irresponsibility of science and truth, arguing that
neither alone are beneficial to humanity. Published in the midst Soviet American tension, the novel

Early Renaissance Vs. Renaissance Architecture
Early Renaissance architecture began in the early years from 1400 1500. During this era, classicism
played a huge role in architectural ideas as well as religious, secularization, and humanist
influences. This differed architecture from that time period to later mannerist architecture.
Mannerism derived from late renaissancearchitecture and continued through the early Baroque era
in the years 1520 1600. The influences that changed the views on early architecture were the Sack
of Rome, the Copernican model of the universe, and the Protestant Reformation. The view in
architecture during these two time periods were quite different yet contained similarities due to the
emerging work that was inspired from early renaissance and into later mannerism.
The spirit of their revolutionary painting, sculpture, and architecture arose from the new
Renaissance worldview of humanism (and its accompanying condition of secularization), which
celebrated rationality and individuality and mankind s ability to make an act upon empirical
observations of the physical world. Humanist scholars and artists recovered Classical Greek and
Roman texts, including Vitruvius s De architectura, and aspired to create a modern world rivaling
that of the ancients. (pg. 287)
Early Renaissance means rebirth, in this case rebirth of Greek and Roman culture. The traditional
views of the Renaissance emerged as a result of the fall of Constantinople in 1453. If the fall of
Constantinople would not have occurred,

Key Concepts Of Identity, Identification, Place And Social...
I am writing to compare two articles from two different sources. I will be exploring the key
concepts of identity, identification, place and social memory and how theses sociological
concepts are displayed within the articles. Identity is the process that informs the way in which
people see themselves and the groups they belong to and also how other groups categorize a
person. Pountney and Maric (2015) pages 144 5. Identity is relational, situational and multiple. It
is better to understand identification as a process of continual negotiation and renegotiation. This
statement confirms our identities are forever changing due to our circumstances or surrounding
environments and certain aspects of our identities are chosen and negotiated. The Sikh youths
in the UK prove this theory through this statement; There s a time to be Indian and a time to be
British K. Hall (2002). Identification is the ongoing process that describes the way in which
individuals and groups see themselves and the way others see them. It refers to the way people
develop their cultural identity; language, ethnicity, religion and social class are all examples of
social characteristics that give people a shared sense of belonging. Pountney and Maric (2015)
pages 144 5. Yi Fu Tuan discussed Place as a location created by human experiences (Tuan, 2001).

The Effect Of Parapsychology On The Existence Of Science
Not a lot of people can say they have had a paranormal experience. It is the kind of thing that
happens once in a lifetime, and usually it is not anything big. But those who do have these
experiences pertain that belief in the supernatural, and it is these documented experiences that have
brought about the study of parapsychology. Is there something to these claims or is it due to mental
illusions? Parapsychology is a highly debated branch of science because of the existence of
phenomena that cannot be explained, the main argument being in the existence of physics and
whether there is something beyond or not. s Parapsychology is the study of supernatural
phenomena or more specifically, psychicphenomena. Most parapsychologists divide... Show more

Even the learned expressed interest in these, however, the wide acceptance of these occurrences
may have been due to the insufficient education of the general public. After the Enlightenment,
which occurred in the 18th century, the existence of deities and magic was more widely contested
and doubted, leading to the discrediting of these phenomena as science. One of the first scientists to
attempt a scientific study of psychic phenomena was Franz Anton Mesmer in the 1700 s; he
experimented with and attempted to patent the mesmerism technique, more commonly known as
hypnotism. Even though his method did not achieve scientific recognition, shifting religious
beliefs allowed for the widespread Spiritualism movement, which allowed for the use of mediums
and the like (Psychicscience.org). Modern parapsychology came about in the 1920 s with the
invention of statistical tools and the efforts of a researcher by the name of J.B. Rhine. Rhine had
three aims through his experiments: to provide data on parapsychological phenomena rather than
to attempt to prove their existence, to achieve scientific recognition and to prove that psychic
ability was not limited to certain people and was a part of human psyche all along just waiting to
be discovered. Though he was not necessarily successful in his goals, Rhine did change his field in
that now psychic study is not limited to individuals with psychic talent, rather a

Essay on French Colonialism and Vietnam
Unlike many other European countries that sought out the territory in Southeast Asia merely for
increasing their power through trade, the French first began interactions with the region as early as
the 17th century. Alexandre De Rhodes began an expedition to the Southeast Asia region with the
desire to expand the Jesuit missionaries throughout the region to further their belief. For many years
until the 18th century, the Jesuits expanded and created many missionaries throughout the region.
The 18th century had brought an astronomical expansion in the trading markets throughout Europe

De Genouilly was found to be using inappropriate war strategies during his campaign, especially
while undertaking Saigon, which resulted in his dismissal in 1859. De Genouilly would be
replaced by Admiral Page who had been instructed by the French government to not make any more
territorial gains in Vietnam for the French. Page was to only use military action if the catholic
missionaries in the region were under any threat. Even though this was what he was ordered to do,
this did not last very long as the French under Page began to take over more provinces. On April
13th, 1862 the Vietnamese ceded three additional provinces to the French. Then just a year later,
the king of Cambodia exchanged control over the Battambang and the Siem Reap for French
protection over Cambodia from the threatening Asian powers. Things would remain relatively under
control for the French until 1884 when the Chinese would challenge the French s ambition to
control the Tonkin region (Northern Vietnam.) The first of many wars to follow in between the
19th and 20th century for the French was the Sino French war which lasted between 1884 and
1885. The French believed that the Northern region of Vietnam, Tonkin, should be placed under
their control as they had control over the regions surrounding it. The Chinese who controlled
Tonkin disputed this claim and a very short

America during the nineteenth century saw a rise of the modern middle class. With this came
dramatic changes in family dynamics. It can be seen that most middle class American families
remained quite patriarchal throughout the 1900s, however, it was women not their husbands who

Essay on Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things
Some believe that boundaries are made to be broken, that lines are meant to be crossed while
others believe that we should not move an ancient boundary stone set up by [our] forefathers

if so, who then decides what is right and wrong? Who draws the line? Who sets the boundary? In

Art has been around ever since the ancient city of Pompeii. The people of Pompeii used graffiti

However, even though graffiti is portrayed as art by many people, some people think that all

Las Vegas Stadium Tragedy
In addition, academics have attempted to explain stadium subsidies not only in terms of economic
returns, but intangible benefits as well. That is, there is clearly some social phenomenon in driving
stadium development in terms of the societal role of sports and/or the desire to build large, lasting
monuments or edifices. Eckstein Delaney (2002) discuss collective conscience and community self
esteem (p. 235) in terms of manipulative strategies used by pro stadium advocates, suggesting these
sociologic elements seem to override rudimentary economic arguments and commonsense.
However, Carlino Coulson (2004) using regressive analysis of higher rents and lower wage

We should continually seek feedback to improve customer satisfaction. Part of being a good
manager is to continually evaluate our own practice and lead by example. It is very important to
continually develop our own skills and those of our staff members. I regularly attend as many
Hairdressing seminars and exhibitions as possible each year to keep myself up to date and
motivated.
I find that by holding a training class in the salon one evening per week gives every team member
a chance to show their individual skills and overall quality of their own work. It allows me their
manager to pick up on their strengths and weaknesses and very often I pick up something new from
watching them.
This is information that can be used when doing staff appraisals. It shows me areas of
improvement that are needed for each individual so I can plan relevant courses for them which will
all help the overall customer service offered in my salon. Staff reviews take place annually in the
salon and allows us to look at the standard of work over the past year and set targets for the year
ahead. It allows me to give feedback to each staff member individually and I find it strengthens the
relationship between us. It also gives employees the chance to tell me what they think and what
their aspirations are for the future. Task 2

American Sphinx Thomas Jefferson Sparknotes
American Sphinx: The character of Thomas Jefferson
A book by Joseph J. Ellis.
Copyright 1997 Vintage.
Joseph J. Ellis, a historian who was educated at the College of William and Mary and Yale, is a
Ford Foundation Professor of History at Mount Holyoke University. He has written four books on
historical topics, centered on the time Jefferson was alive, dealing with issues and personalities
Jefferson dealt with firsthand. After authoring a book on a politician such as John Adams, Ellis
seems to have felt a need or want to focus on Jefferson, presumably because of his status as
founding father and main contributor to the constitution.

This trait in Ellis s writing and teaching style is what really grabbed me and got me interested in
the book. How wise is the person who realizes that as scholarly as they may be, there may always
be a better opinion out there? Joseph has presented to me a most noble way to write. He has
circumvented my prejudice against authors who insist that their ideas and methods are the only
thoughts that exist.
In terms of the presentation of information, Ellis pieced together the life and work of Jefferson
according to eras, or phases in the life of Thomas J. Starting with Philadelphia 1775 1776,
Jefferson s story begins as the prominent, educated young man entering a world of radical
politicians and commoners striving for their independence. This chapter describes how Jefferson
established himself as an excellent literary figure in the developing American insurrection by
publishing a pamphlet entitled, A summary view of the rights of British America. This document,
though never officially accepted as a plan of action was simple and emphatic, with a dramatic
flair that that previewed certain passages in the Declaration of Independence (e.g., Single acts of
tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of the day; but a series of oppressions, begun at
a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably thro every change of ministers, too plainly prove a

The history of bowling goes way back to the 3200BC when Sir Flinders Petrie found a colection
of objects in a egyptions childs grave in the 1930 s, and today it is one of the most popular sports
in the world. There are documents that show a form of bowling in England in 1366, when King
Edward III banned it inorder to make the troops focused on archery practice. It also seems that
bowlingduring King Henry VIII time at throne was much alive. At this time there were still
many variations of pin games , such as lawn bowling bocce , petaque, or 9 pin. The English,

Animal Farm Journal Entry Analysis
Roughly a century after Napoleon s rule of Animal Farm, a young pig stumbled upon a dusty
leather bound diary hidden away in the straw strewn loft of the ramshackle barn. The same barn
which held those legendary meetings from long before. With a tentative trotter, the youngster filed
through the delicate pages, unconvering a story which to that point had remained untold. The story
of a raven from the days of old and his quest to lead his animal brethren to the religious truth
unfolded before the pigs eyes the story of Moses. The following are the most significant entries
from his account of life on Animal farm.

I ve overheard some animals suggesting that I do not help with laboring on the farm. This angers
me greatly, as I am participating in the only work that truly matters. Not everyone thinks I m a
crazy bird though, some sheep and chickens have come to the light, and we are meeting regularly
to discuss our beliefs and theology. I am ahppy to see that my journey back to Animal Farm was
not frivolous.
Entry 5: This is a dark day. The pigs have gone too far. I was greatly pained when some of my
most loyal followers came to me in anguish as they knew they were going to be executed by
Napoleon and his dogs. All I could do was offer spiritual guidance to ensure that they found their
way to Sugarcandy Mountain. It has become clear to me that my true mission on this farm is to
minister to these evil, demonic pigs. If they can be converted, this whole farm can still be saved!
Entry 6: It has been quite some time since I ve written here. It feels as though it s been decades
actually. Time passed, and with it, many of my followers and friends. To this point, my ministry
to the pigs has proven fruitless. Not one animal actually seems to hear my truth anymore, I have
been permanently labelled a crazy old bird. Well, at least I will end up on that mountain some day.

Literary Analysis Of Peter Bosch s The Garden Of Earthly...
Finishing with the final right panel, the composition of the humans and otherworldly aspects in
this scene are scattered and messy, conveying a sense of chaos. Humans near the front of the
scene are crushed and impaled by giant musical instruments while others near the corners and
sides of the scene are crammed together, looking terrified and hollow, appearing as if they are
hiding from something. In the background, endless wars are being fought as buildings go up in
flames, the battlefields are piled with fallen corpses, and men are falling from the sky. The lack of
order in composition and variety of chaotic scenarios of man being destroyed by their own
creations, such as the arts and inequality, convey the sense that humanity s empire... Show more

Instead, in the middle panel, the focus is more towards gaining control over groups of humans
or nature itself rather than indulging in lust. Art historian, Ludwig von Baldass, provides
another interpretation of The Garden in which he suggests that women are the cause for
mankind s fall (Baldass). As The Garden heavily references the Bible, it seems plausible that
women would be agents of chaos as it is Eve, in the first biblical story, who first ate the fruit from
the Tree of Knowledge before giving some to the Adam. However, Bosch s work is not a perfect
rendition of the biblical story, but merely references it, as noted from the larger than real life
animals, oddly shaped structures, and the human s paper white skin tones (save for a very small
number of those with black skin tones). There is also no proof showing that it was a woman who
ate the red fruit first as it was a scene never painted. Lastly, all people, both man and woman, were
partaking in the fruit in the middle panel and all of them were being tortured equally in the final
panel. Overall, the interpretation of The Garden of Earthly Delights representing the rise and fall of
mankind through the indulging of their own vices offers the most evidence to back it up, which
can be found in all three panels. Humans desire to obtain various forms of abundance, control, and
power over their surroundings has, for centuries, been the foundation on which empires

Descriptive Essay About South Boston
10. South Boston
Known as one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, South Boston is placed on a peninsula that
extends into the Boston Harbor. It is linked to the rest of the city through a narrow strip of land.
Over the years, this strip of land has been gradually widened through landfill.
For over a century, South Boston has been one of the most populated neighborhoods in the city. In
the mid 1800s, it was the third most populous section of Boston. Over the year, new residential
subdivisions have developed in the neighborhood. Each new subdivision has a unique character and
architectural style. Telegraph Hill and Dorchester Heights were both created in the middle of the
19th century to house the city s growing population base.
Originally annexed by Boston in 1804, this neighborhood really started to thrive in the mid 19th
century when the Old Colony Railroad made reaching downtown Boston easy. Before long, it was a
center of industry with shipyards, iron foundries and machine shops popping up everywhere. Today,
industrial buildings can still be found on the northern side of the peninsula.
Modern South Boston has many long time residents as well as young professionals. With its easy
access to downtown, this area is popular among commuters. It boasts of a thriving nightlife scene
and open spaces. Miles of waterfront parks and beaches can be found at areas like L Street Beach,
Carson Beach, the Strandway and Pleasure Bay.

unfortunately I was wrong. First of all, Erica and I grew up together and hung out ninety percent

Music During The Civil War
Through out the years, music has developed and many genres have been created and have been
evolved. During the 1960s, music started to become louder. Drummers were required to hit their

music was being created in a straight and loud feel, and it has remained that way to this very day

Lights flashing, sirens blaring through the streets of Albany, New York. A cop is involved in a

Cops know that there are stressful and scary things to come from working as a police officer. Even

The Lesson Of The Moth And The Giver
is it better to be a part of beauty / for one instant and then to cease to / exist than to exist forever
/ and never be a part of beauty, (Marquis 34 37). This is the question that can be asked while
reading the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, and the two poems: The Lesson of the Moth by
Don Marquis and Identity by Julio Noboa. The Lesson of the Moth is about a moth who is
attracted to the beauty of an electric light bulb even though it could kill him. Identity is about a
plant who is willing to be flawed and different from the rest of the beautiful, yet ordinary flowers if
it means that it can be independent and have its freedom. The Giver is about a boy named Jonas

The theme of The Lesson of the Moth is that beauty comes with sacrifices . An example of this in
the poem is when the speaker says, ...i wish / there was something i wanted / as badly as he
wanted to fry himself (Marquis 51 53). This quote explains the fact that the moth is willing to
fry himself only to experience the beauty of the electric light bulb. The theme of Identity is that
having freedom is more important than acceptance . An example of this theme is on lines 13 15
when the plant states, I d rather be unseen, and if, / then shunned by everyone / than to be a
pleasant smelling flower . This means that the plant cares more about fulfilling its happiness in
life and being free than being another ordinary flower. By reading and analyzing these two
poems, I think that Identity best emulates Jonas s desire for change in his community because
this poem and the story have the theme, having freedom is more important than acceptance .
This theme relates to the Giver as well because in the story, Jonas wants to escape his
community because he he thinks, from receiving memories, that there is something better for
him out in the real world. This relates to the poem, Identity, when it states, To have broken
through the surface of stone / to live, to feel exposed to the madness /of the vast, eternal sky
(Noboa 7 9). This quote from the poem represents both the plant and Jonas s desire to live a free
life. But Jonas still struggles with the idea of escaping because he does not know if he should
choose his freedom and be shunned by his community or if he should stay in his community where
he is safe and honored, but will never have his

If you do not have a pet and you do not want animals around, it might be refreshing to move into a
complex which does not allow pets. You will not have to worry if the previous tenants dog
scratched a hole in the bedroom carpet or if you next door neighbor s cat might sneak in your front

Amenities
Different amenities are important depending upon the person. While one person is concerned with
a dishwasher, another person might be most concerned with the apartment s proximity to the

corporate strategy, because in the mid 1990s SomPack realized that China was a threat. China had
been making inroads into U.S. Market. The main issue was the labor cost differentials, so
SomPack tried to set some ways to reduce labor costs and increase the capacity. The company took
a step to product assembly that is the lipstick mechanism and the mechanism was high volume
component that has multistep process. They had a machine custom designed, but the machine was
so sensitive to operate and defects occurred. Then, they decided to redesign the parts of assembly
to decrease material cost, but it also did not work well. If they would have ... Show more content on

Thus, it causes some problems about the moulds and to fix they had to pay much more for labor
costs.
Another criterion is SomPack`s customers` demand cheap products. Moreover, SomPack loss their
suppliers and the customers due to the Chinese affects in cosmetic market. Lastly, large customers
who could control suppliers in China increasingly preferred to deal with them directly. Customers
increasingly approached SomPack for smaller order quantities, and when they needed to change
their product mix often, so SomPack could not have depended on Chinese suppliers for such
products either.
FACTS
Facts are related to criteria. There are some economic and also social facts that are connected to
economic ones. Economic facts are that the company was trying to reduce labor costs, product
quality by the use of cheaper raw material, use of cheaper costs and machines. Also, the social
facts occurred due to loss of customers. Those customers started to look for new countries to find a
new company. That is, SOMPACK was famous with its quality products and good customer
relations, but they had to decrease costs because of the fact that global crisis and foreign
competition had increased.
ACTION PLAN
SomPack`s goal is to be different than the other companies on the base of production`s quality and
service.
SHORT TERM STEPS
SomPack should reduce the costs as much as they can by the use

The Issue Of Criminal Activities
To participate in criminal activities means to be involved in An act committed in violation of law
where the consequence of conviction by a court is punishment, especially where the punishment is
a serious one such as imprisonment. There are various reasons why an individual may choose to
commit the offense; however, there are also many different developing theories and suggestions
about why crimes actually occur at all. For example; do some individuals have a predisposition,
born of either their nature or nurture, which leads them to commit crimes? Can the likelihood of
committing a crime be decided within the first four years of life? And therefore, whether or not are
offenders always to blame? Attachment can be defined... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the child and their caregiver are separated, the child becomes upset and distressed until their return,

avoidant attachment type may develop if the child s primary caregiver is inattentive or unavailable

will have no impact on their primary caregiver. As such the child then continues not to seek contact
with their caregiver during further times of distress. Children with this attachment type also tend

Why We Should Banning Books Be Banned
Banning books has been happening for a very long time within the education system. Parents
and other adults are demanding that specific books stay out of the grasp of their innocent
children, even high school students. This paper will be covering three reasons why certain
books shouldn t be banned just because parents don t agree with the material inside the pages.
The main points I will cover are, first: knowledge shouldn t be kept from one age group just
because some people don t agree with the subject matter. Second: Many challenged books could
help people get a abetter idea of the world they live in and their place in it. Last: books are a
portal to different life experiences and reading encourages empathy and social emotional
development. Expanding on that first point is the fact that parents may control what their own
children read, but don t have a right to restrict what books are available to other people. You may
ask others not to judge you for how you raise your kids, but that goes the same for books in school
libraries. Parents who don t like specific books can have their kids opt out of an assignment without
infringing on the rights of others.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing up, Sex, and Sexual Health, stated, I think these books look
at the topics, the concerns, the worry, the fascination that kids have today... It s the world in
which they re living. Many books that have long been considered to be required reading to
become educated about literature and American history are frequently challenged, such as: The

Court Report
LAWS1021: Court research report The basic division in the structure of criminal courts is
between the lower criminal courts the local courts, Children s court and Coroner s court and the
higher criminal courts the District Court and the Supreme Court. In observing proceedings at the
Local, District and Supreme Courts over a period of three days a number of aspects of the criminal
justice system were made apparent. The administration, processes and practices of the criminal trial
are extremely varied dependent upon the level of criminal court being observed. The distinctions
between the workings of the two courts revealed a number of the differences between summary
proceedings and trial upon indictment. The cases observed served to... Show more content on

Other cases that were observed through court visits further emphasised the nature of the judicial
process in the Local Courts. The summary proceedings served in a number of cases to emphasise
the triviality of the process. Cases involving minor offences such as traffic offences and petty theft
were particularly trivial however other cases such as domestic violence and minor assault charges
were not so inconsequential. They were of particular importance to the parties involved and it is
thus important not to overgeneralise the process of the lower courts to being mere triviality. Whilst
in the local courts there was an emphasis on speed and efficiency, this did not automatically mean
that strict legality was disregarded. The importance placed on evidence and onus on the prosecutors
in providing proof upheld important elements of the criminal justice system. Higher criminal court
Ideology of Justice On observing the District Court a number of distinctions from the Local Courts
were immediately made apparent. Without going in to detail about the actual structure of the
courts, they seemed to fit more closely with the traditional schema of a typical courtroom. In
particular the larger courtrooms with more facilities combined with the barristers and magistrates
wearing their wig and robes seemed to instantly uphold the ideology of justice. It is interesting to
note how appearances can automatically provide an impression that justice will be upheld. The

The only way is through the learning adapting with environment change within an organization in

The contributions of industrial relations toward the organization including reduce company
wastage, reduce the occurrence of disputes, and achieve organizational goals (Importance of
Industrial Relations, n.d.). First, IR reduces company wastages. IR helps to maintain the
cooperation and recognition between employer and employees. Thus, both parties reach a
consensus in common interests and sharing benefits. Thus, the production flow will not be
interrupted and the resources can be fully utilized. Eventually, this will maximize the production
without wastages. Besides that, IR assists organization to avoid or reduce industrial disputes. This
goal can be achieved through collective bargaining. Collective bargaining is the written agreement
between trade union and an employer about terms and conditions of work and employment of the
union members (Parasuraman, 2004). In the process of collective bargaining, the dialogue and
communication from both sides will reflect the fundamental human urges or motivations that
contribute to satisfaction (Importance of Industrial Relations, n.d.). As a result, the understanding

Chemistry of LSD and Route of Access Essay
Chemistry of LSD and Route of Access
Classification
Pharmacologically, the commonly abused hallucinogenic substances may be divided into two major
groups. The indolealkylamines, including d lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), psilocybin, and
dimethyltryptamine (DMT) bear a structural resemblance to the neurotransmitter 5
hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). The phenylethylamines, including mescaline and the
phenylisopropylamines such as 2, 5 dimethoxy 4 methylamphetamine
(DOM, STP ), are structurally related to dopamine, norepinephrine, and the amphetamines
(Gelenberg, Bassuk,

The plasma half life of LSD is 2 to 3 hrs. It is metabolized into nonhallucinogenic substances,
primarily by conjugation of the liver (Gelenberg, Bassuk, Schoonover 1991). Within the brain,
the highest levels of LSD are in the visual system, especially within a part called the lateral
geniculate nucleus, or LGN. LSD decreases the response of the LGN, which acts a visual relay
center. The LGN receives nerve impulses from the retina and sends them to the occipital cortex of
the brain, an area also known as the visual cortex. LSD acts to decrease the responsiveness of the
LGN to signals from the retina. How this effects the production of visual hallucinations is unclear
LSD is also concentrated highly in parts of the limbic system.
The limbic system is dedicated to regulating emotion, aggression, docility, and memory.
Also, LSD concentrates in areas of the reticular formation. The reticular formation mediates the
level of arousal and alertness in the brain. It begins in the medulla, and runs up through the brain
stem into the forebrain. The textbook authors call it the volume dial of consciousness (Strang, 2004).
Because of its extreme potency, only minuscule amounts can be detected in urine. Thus,
conventional urine screening tests are inadequate to detect LSD. When the use of LSD is
suspected, urine is

Online Higher Education s Individualist Fallacy Essay
Have you ever wondered what the best college learning method for a working adult is online or
campus? If working adults took online courses they can do their work anywhere there is an
internet connection however they have to ask themselves; would I get the same or better
education I could if I was sitting in a classroom? In a classroom setting they would get the
interaction with fellow classmates and the professor who all come from different places in their
lives. If the working adult had a question or did not understand they would get the results right
away, on the other hand, if the student is learning online they have to wait for their professor. The
response time for their email to be read and returned will not be there when it s fresh in the student
s mind. If one is planning on going to college as a working adult, he or she should consider the
value of taking the time and attend classes on campus. In the article titled Online Higher Educations
Individualist Fallacy written by Johann N. Neem was about the Individualist Fallacy which is
ecological studies and instrumental variables. Some boosters think the traditional campus is going
to be displaced (102). Richard Vedder believes that campus is only good for making friends,
partying, drinking, and having sex (103). While others like Jaron Lanier; a computer scientist, said
that computers exist to support human endeavors (104). Bill Gates thinks that in five years the best

Malcolm Klein, director of the Social Research Institute at the University of Southern California

What Are The Three Branches
Our founding fathers met together on a warm summer day in the May of 1787, and wrote our
Constitution, serving as the supreme law of the United States. This particular piece of paper has set
the laws of the U.S, and acts as the foundation of it s national government. However, this
government is not ruled by one single person for that would be a dictatorship; something that the
founding fathers wanted to stray from. The governmentis a republic democracy, in which the
citizens vote for other people to represent them. These people then work in different branches, but
what are exactly are branches ? The branches are split up pieces of the entire government, and in the

Bicameralism is a system in which the legislative branch is split into chambers (The
Constitution). One chamber is the House of Representatives, which in total has 435 members to
represent the 50 states populations individually. The other chamber would be the Senate, in
which all 50 states each equally have 2 members to represent them, making up a total count of
100 members. The Congress, another name for the legislative branch, has this system for
smaller states would have equal representation so states are more involved , whereas the House
of Representatives are based off of population to represent its people. By having this system, it
makes the process of a bill becoming an official law a long and painful process. Of course, having
this long process can be a good thing for it acts as a giant filter for corrupt laws, but it has its
cons. Even though this branch is in charge of writing federal laws to help protect its citizens and
promote the general welfare, middle and lower class citizens do not have much of a say in the

People are trying to understand if God is all powerful and good, why does evil exist in the

natural evil, radical evil, evil for evil s sake, modern evil and the banality of evil. The television

  • 2. Morality of Human Cloning Essay The novel Brave New World presents us with a vision of a future where human beings are no longer born the natural way but are rather manufactured in identical batches to certain specifications. Where concepts like mother and father are scatological and children are taught only to keep the order and complete their predetermined occupations. By the end of the novel Mr. Huxley has us thankful that such a world is beyond our grasp. However, with the successful cloning of a Scottish sheep named Dolly, images of a Brave New World became so much closer to reality. Even just the word clone can summon dark images of lines of identical individuals with bar codes tattooed on their necks walking in lock step fashion and it is due in no small... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Can we not also add a cloned child to the roster and still be ignorant of their origin? As unnerving as it might appear the method of procreation is completely arbitrary, more so ought we to be concerned with the intent of procreation if we must lay a blame. Physically a cloned child is no different from you or me but can we say that the child is any less human from extra physical loss? Whether or not a clone would be less than human begs us that we ought first discern what it is that defines a person as a person. Detailing free will and individualistic identity necessitate the ability to be self aware and to make decisions without requiring outside influence which, compose the basis of what delineates a human person. The problem of identity sometimes arises with identical twins in that we many times ascertain them to be the same person due merely to their often indistinguishable appearance. Experience however tells us that even though they have the same genetic profile they constitute discrete identities. A clone, against our intuitions, would not have the same identity as the one from whom they were cloned and additionally even were one to take a person and subject them to one scenario they would end up completely different than if you had subjected them in a ... • 3. Ptsd In Slaughterhouse Five Distinguished American author and intellectual Kurt Vonnegut stated the following about glorification of war: Perhaps, when we remember wars, we should take off our clothes and paint ourselves blue and go on all fours all day long and grunt like pigs. That would surely be more appropriate than noble oratory and shows of flags and well oiled guns. (Cat s 147) World War II is one of the most significant memories of the twentieth century. It has impacted the collective consciousness of all Americans, but none more than the soldiers, just out of childhood, who fought and died in it. Vonnegut experienced the horrors of war like few others, as an American prisoner of war captured and forced to work in the German city of Dresden. The trauma... Sheri Metzger Karmiol, a professor of literature at the University of New Mexico view s Cat s Cradle as a call to action, In many ways, Cat s Cradle is an expression of Vonnegut s belief that writers have a responsibility to alert their readers to injustice, danger, and the need for social change. The narrative focuses primary on the irresponsibility of science and truth, arguing that neither alone are beneficial to humanity. Published in the midst Soviet American tension, the novel , uses the fictional compound ice nine, an alternate form of water solid at room temperature capable of instantly freeing all the water on the planet as an allegory for nuclear technology and the dangers of science without moral consideration. Felix Hoenikker, the creator of ice nine, accidentally allows it to fall into the hands of his equally callow children, who sell it to international superpowers (Cat s 32). Critic Wayne McGinnis expands the metaphorical weight of ice nine, declaring it to be Vonnegut s vision of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Early Renaissance Vs. Renaissance Architecture Early Renaissance architecture began in the early years from 1400 1500. During this era, classicism played a huge role in architectural ideas as well as religious, secularization, and humanist influences. This differed architecture from that time period to later mannerist architecture. Mannerism derived from late renaissancearchitecture and continued through the early Baroque era in the years 1520 1600. The influences that changed the views on early architecture were the Sack of Rome, the Copernican model of the universe, and the Protestant Reformation. The view in architecture during these two time periods were quite different yet contained similarities due to the emerging work that was inspired from early renaissance and into later mannerism. The spirit of their revolutionary painting, sculpture, and architecture arose from the new Renaissance worldview of humanism (and its accompanying condition of secularization), which celebrated rationality and individuality and mankind s ability to make an act upon empirical observations of the physical world. Humanist scholars and artists recovered Classical Greek and Roman texts, including Vitruvius s De architectura, and aspired to create a modern world rivaling that of the ancients. (pg. 287) Early Renaissance means rebirth, in this case rebirth of Greek and Roman culture. The traditional views of the Renaissance emerged as a result of the fall of Constantinople in 1453. If the fall of Constantinople would not have occurred, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Key Concepts Of Identity, Identification, Place And Social... I am writing to compare two articles from two different sources. I will be exploring the key concepts of identity, identification, place and social memory and how theses sociological concepts are displayed within the articles. Identity is the process that informs the way in which people see themselves and the groups they belong to and also how other groups categorize a person. Pountney and Maric (2015) pages 144 5. Identity is relational, situational and multiple. It is better to understand identification as a process of continual negotiation and renegotiation. This statement confirms our identities are forever changing due to our circumstances or surrounding environments and certain aspects of our identities are chosen and negotiated. The Sikh youths in the UK prove this theory through this statement; There s a time to be Indian and a time to be British K. Hall (2002). Identification is the ongoing process that describes the way in which individuals and groups see themselves and the way others see them. It refers to the way people develop their cultural identity; language, ethnicity, religion and social class are all examples of social characteristics that give people a shared sense of belonging. Pountney and Maric (2015) pages 144 5. Yi Fu Tuan discussed Place as a location created by human experiences (Tuan, 2001). Whereas space may have no human connection, a place carries meanings given by humans. It can be any size a city, neighbourhood or a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Effect Of Parapsychology On The Existence Of Science Not a lot of people can say they have had a paranormal experience. It is the kind of thing that happens once in a lifetime, and usually it is not anything big. But those who do have these experiences pertain that belief in the supernatural, and it is these documented experiences that have brought about the study of parapsychology. Is there something to these claims or is it due to mental illusions? Parapsychology is a highly debated branch of science because of the existence of phenomena that cannot be explained, the main argument being in the existence of physics and whether there is something beyond or not. s Parapsychology is the study of supernatural phenomena or more specifically, psychicphenomena. Most parapsychologists divide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even the learned expressed interest in these, however, the wide acceptance of these occurrences may have been due to the insufficient education of the general public. After the Enlightenment, which occurred in the 18th century, the existence of deities and magic was more widely contested and doubted, leading to the discrediting of these phenomena as science. One of the first scientists to attempt a scientific study of psychic phenomena was Franz Anton Mesmer in the 1700 s; he experimented with and attempted to patent the mesmerism technique, more commonly known as hypnotism. Even though his method did not achieve scientific recognition, shifting religious beliefs allowed for the widespread Spiritualism movement, which allowed for the use of mediums and the like (Psychicscience.org). Modern parapsychology came about in the 1920 s with the invention of statistical tools and the efforts of a researcher by the name of J.B. Rhine. Rhine had three aims through his experiments: to provide data on parapsychological phenomena rather than to attempt to prove their existence, to achieve scientific recognition and to prove that psychic ability was not limited to certain people and was a part of human psyche all along just waiting to be discovered. Though he was not necessarily successful in his goals, Rhine did change his field in that now psychic study is not limited to individuals with psychic talent, rather a ... Essay on French Colonialism and Vietnam Unlike many other European countries that sought out the territory in Southeast Asia merely for increasing their power through trade, the French first began interactions with the region as early as the 17th century. Alexandre De Rhodes began an expedition to the Southeast Asia region with the desire to expand the Jesuit missionaries throughout the region to further their belief. For many years until the 18th century, the Jesuits expanded and created many missionaries throughout the region. The 18th century had brought an astronomical expansion in the trading markets throughout Europe and Asia as all the European superpowers began colonizing all of Southeast Asiato further their trading empires. De Genouilly was found to be using inappropriate war strategies during his campaign, especially while undertaking Saigon, which resulted in his dismissal in 1859. De Genouilly would be replaced by Admiral Page who had been instructed by the French government to not make any more territorial gains in Vietnam for the French. Page was to only use military action if the catholic missionaries in the region were under any threat. Even though this was what he was ordered to do, this did not last very long as the French under Page began to take over more provinces. On April 13th, 1862 the Vietnamese ceded three additional provinces to the French. Then just a year later, the king of Cambodia exchanged control over the Battambang and the Siem Reap for French protection over Cambodia from the threatening Asian powers. Things would remain relatively under control for the French until 1884 when the Chinese would challenge the French s ambition to control the Tonkin region (Northern Vietnam.) The first of many wars to follow in between the 19th and 20th century for the French was the Sino French war which lasted between 1884 and 1885. The French believed that the Northern region of Vietnam, Tonkin, should be placed under their control as they had control over the regions surrounding it. • 9. Singer Sewing Machines America during the nineteenth century saw a rise of the modern middle class. With this came dramatic changes in family dynamics. It can be seen that most middle class American families remained quite patriarchal throughout the 1900s, however, it was women not their husbands who actually controlled the homes and tended for life at home. Due to this, I believe that the advertisement targeted household women. 2. Why did Singer choose the slogan All the nations Use Singer Sewing Machines ? What point is the company trying to make. After the 1880s, a rise in immigration could be seen from Eastern and Southern European countries, as well as Canada and Latin America. By 1910, Eastern and Southern Europeans made up 70 percent of the immigrants entering the country. It is this mass of immigrants coming to America, potential customers, that alludes to All the nations Use Singer Sewing Machines. In essence the slogan is an example... The closest woman to the viewer is the individual who is being yelled at by her supervisor. She stares vacantly into space, as if this is an everyday occurrence, while the man in charge shakes his fist at her. One can assume that he is yelling based upon his expression. His face is pinched as if in outrage, and the addition of a raised fist leads the viewer to believe that he is yelling out of anger. This visual depiction coupled with the raggedy appearance of the women s clothes, and the plainness of the room they re in leads me to believe that this is not a happy place to work. Additionally, the only visible light source for the room is two small windows that the artist has drawn in the background. Essay on Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things Some believe that boundaries are made to be broken, that lines are meant to be crossed while others believe that we should not move an ancient boundary stone set up by [our] forefathers (Proverbs 22:28). Everywhere we look, we come across a moral boundary that we at least think we should not cross, but cross nonetheless. As ye sow, ye shall reap is a familiar proverb we have all heard at one point in our lives (Roy 31). But is it true? Do we really get what we deserve? And if so, who then decides what is right and wrong? Who draws the line? Who sets the boundary? In Arundhati Roys The God of Small Things, most of the characters cross a moral boundary, we see boundaries that are accommodated, confronted and even shattered.... • 11. Analysis Of Raphael s The Holy Trinity Keadra Jeter ART 4396 Dr. M. Vaccaro Research Paper Raphael Stanza Della Segnatura: A Challenge to Raphael Considered to be in the holy trinity of Renaissance painters along with Leonardo and Michelangelo, Raphael was known to be more versatile than Michelangelo and more prolific than the older contemporary Leonardo. Only living until the young age of 37, he definitely made his mark during the Renaissance era with his many drawings, paintings, and pieces of architecture. But the question to discuss is, what made his commissioned work with Pope Julius II more notable and memorable than any other pieces he has created? This paper will cover his biography, his drawing style with a brief overview of his surviving drawings, and one of his most notable commissions, the so called Stanza Della Segnatura. In the background, endless wars are being fought as buildings go up in flames, the battlefields are piled with fallen corpses, and men are falling from the sky. Art historian, Ludwig von Baldass, provides another interpretation of The Garden in which he suggests that women are the cause for mankind s fall (Baldass). As The Garden heavily references the Bible, it seems plausible that women would be agents of chaos as it is Eve, in the first biblical story, who first ate the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge before giving some to the Adam. However, Bosch s work is not a perfect rendition of the biblical story, but merely references it, as noted from the larger than real life animals, oddly shaped structures, and the human s paper white skin tones (save for a very small number of those with black skin tones). There is also no proof showing that it was a woman who ate the red fruit first as it was a scene never painted. Lastly, all people, both man and woman, were partaking in the fruit in the middle panel and all of them were being tortured equally in the final panel. Overall, the interpretation of The Garden of Earthly Delights representing the rise and fall of mankind through the indulging of their own vices offers the most evidence to back it up, which can be found in all three panels. Everytime she said or did something that hurt me, I tried even harder to impress her with different and exciting ways, instead of standing up for myself. This was my life around my best friend, until recently. I m getting ahead of myself, so let me rewind a little bit. Around age three I met this amazing girl. She was someone who I instantly became best friendswith. Someone who I didn t have to try around because we didn t judge each other. Let s call this girl Erica. Erica and I never separated for anything. We would hang out everyday after school and even danced together at the same studio. I thoughtshe was someone who would stick with me forever growing up, but unfortunately I was wrong. First of all, Erica and I grew up together and hung out ninety percent of the time. I was so attached to this girl, that I couldn t see the true person she really was. And I didn t realize till now that I didn t even love hanging out with her, I loved the fact that I had such a cool and popular best friend. I was mostly unhappy hanging out with Erica, and I never knew what kind of mood she would be in. Unfortunately, she would almost brainwash me into thinking that I needed her, no matter what she did to me. After a while, I believed her and set aside my feelings to help with hers. ... • 38. The Lesson Of The Moth And The Giver is it better to be a part of beauty / for one instant and then to cease to / exist than to exist forever / and never be a part of beauty, (Marquis 34 37). This is the question that can be asked while reading the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, and the two poems: The Lesson of the Moth by Don Marquis and Identity by Julio Noboa. The Lesson of the Moth is about a moth who is attracted to the beauty of an electric light bulb even though it could kill him. Identity is about a plant who is willing to be flawed and different from the rest of the beautiful, yet ordinary flowers if it means that it can be independent and have its freedom. The theme of The Lesson of the Moth is that beauty comes with sacrifices . An example of this in the poem is when the speaker says, ...i wish / there was something i wanted / as badly as he wanted to fry himself (Marquis 51 53). This quote explains the fact that the moth is willing to fry himself only to experience the beauty of the electric light bulb. The theme of Identity is that having freedom is more important than acceptance . An example of this theme is on lines 13 15 when the plant states, I d rather be unseen, and if, / then shunned by everyone / than to be a pleasant smelling flower . This means that the plant cares more about fulfilling its happiness in life and being free than being another ordinary flower. By reading and analyzing these two poems, I think that Identity best emulates Jonas s desire for change in his community because this poem and the story have the theme, having freedom is more important than acceptance . This theme relates to the Giver as well because in the story, Jonas wants to escape his community because he he thinks, from receiving memories, that there is something better for him out in the real world. This relates to the poem, Identity, when it states, To have broken through the surface of stone / to live, to feel exposed to the madness /of the vast, eternal sky (Noboa 7 9). This quote from the poem represents both the plant and Jonas s desire to live a free life. But Jonas still struggles with the idea of escaping because he does not know if he should choose his freedom and be shunned by his community or if he should stay in his community where he is safe and honored, but will never have his ... Parents and other adults are demanding that specific books stay out of the grasp of their innocent children, even high school students. This paper will be covering three reasons why certain books shouldn t be banned just because parents don t agree with the material inside the pages. The main points I will cover are, first: knowledge shouldn t be kept from one age group just because some people don t agree with the subject matter. Second: Many challenged books could help people get a abetter idea of the world they live in and their place in it. Last: books are a portal to different life experiences and reading encourages empathy and social emotional development. Expanding on that first point is the fact that parents may control what their own children read, but don t have a right to restrict what books are available to other people. This particular piece of paper has set the laws of the U.S, and acts as the foundation of it s national government. However, this government is not ruled by one single person for that would be a dictatorship; something that the founding fathers wanted to stray from. For six seasons, Jax and the club have been unlikely heroes, as a working class biker gang dabbling in guns, drugs, prostitution, and pornography. Oh, and tons of violence (...) But, despite the shady deals and blood baths, viewers have stood by the Sons since 2008, because they protected Charming and seemingly avoided killing innocent people (Worden, Paste Magazine).
