Being A Sex Worker, By George Bernard Shaw
Is morality really as clear cut and defined as we may perceive it to be? Most would agree that
things along the lines of murder and rape are clearly immoral and despicable, but what about
prostitution? In modern society, the word prostitute might understandably bring many negative
connotations to one s mind pimps... sexual abuse...slavery, even especially considering the vast
options women in the modern workforce have. One could also assume that no one would ever
want to become willful sex worker, but some may see it as a necessary evil to provide for
themselves. In Victorian Society, being a sex worker may have been one of the few options open
to women of the lower or working class to survive without being forced into the... Show more

However, after Vivie learns that her mother is still actively involved in her business, she refuses
to accept any more money and unsympathetically cut ties with her. She tells her mother We must
part. It will not make much difference to us: instead of meeting one another for perhaps a few
months in twenty years, we shall never meet: that s all (Shaw Act IV). To some degree, her
opposition to living off the money that is the product of prostitution is honorable and some might
see her as an example of the superior moral figure in the play. Vivie clearly has an outstanding
moral issue with the business her mother is involved in but is that really fair of her? She seems to
suffer from what Jesse Prinz describes in The Death of Morality, as a culturally conditioned response
(Philosophy Now). Jesse essentially states that morality is merely a response to the cultural mass
point of view. He states, people make moral judgments even when they cannot provide any
justification for them (Philosophy Now). It s interesting that Vivie feels so strongly about her
mother s business practices considering that she herself is a cultural outcast as a young, educated,
woman that has no ambition to marry or have children, and wants to make her own money. Without
her mother s efforts to put her through school, what other opportunities would Vivie

Essay on Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci
Most people probably think of Leonardo Da Vinci as just a painter but in reality he was actually
also a expert drawer, an ingenious inventor, and a marvelous scientist. Over a period of twenty
five years Leonard dissected around thirty human bodies as well as cows, birds, frogs, bears, and
monkeys. Of these bodies he made over two hundred tedious drawings. Another thing to remember
is beings the process of drawing took so long the bodies would start decomposing before he was
finished with all of the drawings in which he intended to make. Leonardo Da Vinci was born on
Saturday April 15, 1452. His father named Ser Piero Da Vinci was an important man, leading
citizen who studied at the University of Vinci, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As most people know Leonardo was a magnificent artist however some people don t realize being
an artist doesn t always mean you re good at painting and drawing. Leonardo was originally
brought to the Moor who ruled the duchy of Milan by music not art. The Moor became
Leonardo s patron after Leonardo painted an altarpiece for the Church of San Francesco
Grande. When the Moor decided to make a bronze statue of his father on horseback Leonardo
stepped up to take on the task. Leonardo planned to make the horse first then make the rider
separately and add it on later. He studied horses drawing the best the Moor had in his stable he
also measured them even dissecting horses to make sure he had the plans just right. In 1493
Leonardo displayed his clay model that was full size. He still had to cast the enormous statue,
which could prove to be the hardest part of making the sculpture. He invented a new way to get
all the molten bronze into the mold quickly so it didn t crack when it cooled. When all the
bronze required to make the statue (more than seventy tons) was gathered and the molds made
the Moor used the bronze to make cannons. The would be eighth wonder of the world was never
cast and when the French captured Milan in 1499 the soldiers used Leonardo s clay model for
target practice. It eventually crumbled so even the model of the would be eighth wonder of the
world is not around today. As an artist Leonardo also made three famous paintings. The Last

The Concept Of Education In Mona Lisa Smile
There are two ways in which one leads a classroom of young entrepreneurs of learning. These
forms of education are concreted in either a banking concept or problem posing approach. Paulo
Freire, the creator of such ideas, is a man who believes in the distinct difference that either reaps
learning or destroys it. Banking concept education, according to Freire, is an education that
becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the
depositor (Freire 244). In simpler terms, banking concept is the lack of true understanding by
students. Learning is not a responsibility, instead it is an act to passively check off the list. In
contrast, Freire speaks of problem posing as liberating education [that] consists in acts of cognition,
not transferrals of information (Freire 249). To expand, Freire is bringing to light that this type of
education is the development of genuine, active understanding between teachers and students.
Freire believes in critical, investigative work between teachers and students. He believes that the
banking concept restricts growth and keeps students and teachers from a true critical understanding
of the world. Both banking concept education and problem posing education are evident in the
film Mona Lisa Smile. Mona Lisa Smile, a film set in 1953, is a vivid look into Freire s
understanding of education. The 1950s, a time of distinct gender roles and spoon fed understanding,
promotes an environment at the heart

Comparing Macbeth And Throne Of Blood
Celeste Martinez
Mr. Ortiz
English 12
27 February 2017
Macbeth Comparative Essay In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare and the movie Throne
of Blood by Akira Kurosawa, there are two very different narratives. Both specify the same conflict
of Macbeth killing Duncan and him becoming king and having the same characters. The narratives
do have differences relating to the characters on how the stories both play out. In Shakespeare s
play Macbeth the setting takes place in Scotland speaking with their own language. In the movie
Throne of Blood the setting is in Japan were of course Japanese is spoken having a difference
from both narratives. There are many minor differences stories as they both play out yet the plot
seems to be very similar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Shakespeare wrote his plays he always throws in a drama. As for the director of Throne of
Blood he put all the drama in the ending. The reason why he took away the scenes of Macduff s
family. Kurosawa s narrative became a dramatic irony until the violent ending. Kurosawa did not
want Washizu to die at the hands of a grieving father and husband. He decided to end it with
Washizu s soldiers killing him making the movie have a dramatic change. As for Shakespeare
his play involved of a killer being able to kill the father, Banquo, but not the son, Fleance. Both
amazing narratives, yet written differently to end the story of Macbeth s death. As always not
everything can be similar from a story to a movie. A movie will always be written or directed in
any way the director writes the scripts for the actors. Such as plays they are written the way the
writers would want the actors to perform because they would know how the audience will be
captivated by the drama. Shakespeare and Kurosawa had different ways to write both narratives
yet both came out in their own unique way. As for the audience they could enjoy either both. The
same conflicts Macbeth had to show in both narratives was the murder of the king. Later to him
becoming a king that he started to kill anyone who tried to come at his way. When he became
arrogant he dies in the end

THE RACIST MIND
In this ambitious work THE RACIST MIND by Raphael S. Ezekiel, the author endeavors to show
the crude social Darwinism of the Neo Nazis and Klansmen that exists. Social Darwinists believe
that individuals and different groups, like plants and animals, compete with one another for success
in life. They argue that survival for the fittest applies to humans and were a means to justify the idea
that the White racewas superior to any race, because nature dictated other races didn t have the
right genes needed to be superior in society (Wright, 2009). Raphael uses his fieldwork to
examine the many different ideologies that contribute to the rise of the Neo Nazis and Klansmen.
Raphael is a social Physiologist from the University of Michigan that uses his skills to go into the
minds of different White supremacy Clan leaders to show the world what think. Raphael embarks

Ezekiel was able to meet a young Aryan teenager named Nolan to examine his daily life and

The Sexuality Of Women s Sexuality
There are certainly many different types of feminists with varying beliefs on various topics.
Pornography is one of the most widely disputed of these topics, and has long caused controversy
among feminists. Two clear, and distinctly different, sides have been taken by Andrea Dworkin as
well as Linda Williams. The former of these two academics has taken the presumably more
controversial stance. Dworkin is known for their radical stance that pornographyonly paints women
as whores, as that is how they are seen in a male dominated world. She also is of the opinion that
the depictions of femalesexuality is accurate to how women are represented in real life: The
valuation of women s sexuality in pornography is objective and real because... Show more content

This quote demonstrates not only Williams understanding of female agency but also that female
sex workers often exist in contrast to some feminists. Moreover, Williams does acknowledge
female passivity in traditional porn: Women, on the other hand, like slaves and boys, were the
passive penetrated, who did not move, who were fucked, and who had no power to abstain
(Williams, 368). Contrastingly to Dworkin, Williams acknowledges how pornography has changed
from its conception, both in terms of how it is produced, as well as how the women are valued and
portrayed in the industry, as she follows the story of Annie Sprinkle. It is the opinion of this author
that Williams more accurately represents pornography than Dworkin. Based on the opinions of
many authors explored in this unit, it would seem that the terms pornography and feminism could be
considered antonyms. I am sure that many anti pornography feminists would sooner turn over in
their graves before deciding that the two could be correlated. But is that necessarily true? I
personally believe that aspects of feminism can be found everywhere, and can be applied in the
strangest of places. It is for this reason that I believe that pornography has the capability to be
feminist, though it rarely is. In its creation, women certainly were passive members who had no
agency in their participation nor the consumption of pornography. Pornography was kept hidden
and censored out of

Artemis Fowl Chapter Summary
1. Summary The book Artemis Fowl so far has explored the life of the young boy Artemis Fowl
the second, and his quest to restore his family to the glory it once had. Artemis plans on doing this
by the means of fairies. He learned of their possession of gold, which lead him to kidnap a fairy
with the intention of making a profit.
Artemis Fowl the second, a twelve year old genius, is the protagonist of the story. He is a pale
boy who is gifted with computers, and he spends most of his time indoors. Though he does leave
from the haven of his family manor, Artemis dislikes being in the sun. Artemis father is absent in
Artemis life, though he may be alive, but Artemis still has Butler, his bodyguard and closest person
he has to a father. Artemis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to her, he means the best.
2. Quote Analysis Even as the words came out, Artemis felt guilty. These mind games were
having an obvious effect on Holly, destroying her from the inside out. Was there really a need for
this? This quote is important because it shows Artemis growing sympathy for Holly. It marks how
he is changing as a character, adopting a more warm hearted personality. This is displayed on
multiple occasions, an example being Artemis making jokes, which is very unusual. Another
example for this is his devotion to his mother, always helping her, who suffers from some type of
illness that involves her memory.
3. Personal Reflection I want to know more about Artemis father. Artemis seems to think that he is

Bad News Bears Movie Analysis Essay
MicKayla Lizama Intro to Psychology Bad News Bears (2005) Movie Analysis Explanation of
Concept: Defense mechanisms are ways to reduce anxiety or help someone cope. One of these
defense mechanisms is rationalization. Rationalization is when a person tries to explain an
action that has happened in a more positive way. Rationalization is a way to make an action
more acceptable, even if this rationalized explanation is illogical. Application of concept: An
example of rationalizing in the movie Bad News Bears (2005, Linklater) would be in the scene
where Mike Engelberg breaks Morris Buttermaker s car window by hitting it with a baseball that
he has thrown. As they are inspecting the damage to the car, Engelberg says, It s a piece of shit

peers shows that he has failed to understand that this is something that is not socially acceptable.
Timmy is often bullied by his peers. When he is bullied by two members of the Yankees, he says
to his rescuer, Tanner Boyle, No one s ever stood up for me before. Boyle responds with, Maybe

The Populist Party And The Socialist Party
The Populist Party is often referred to as the party of and for the people, and is labeled as such
because it was, very candidly, founded by the common people, such as farmers and other laborers.
While this party was in power, they had many ambitions and ideas that they sought to spread to
others, and aspired to achieve. To understand the topic completely, one requires a general
knowledge of the formation of the populist party, the elemental beliefs, goals and ideals, and how
the downfall of the party came about, as this will aid in the understanding of the populist party s
want of free coinage of silver and how it would have helped debtors initially, but would have had a
comprehensive and unfavorable effect on the American economy... Show more content on

However, almost all of the populist party could be put under one label: Debtors. The farmers
involved sought to regulate prices and make them affordable, while industrialists sought to regulate
the hours in a work day. The people were left in great debt and hoped that these actions may soon
begin to lift the economic depression that they were facing. The main idea of the populist party
was to unite the common and poor people so that they may gain power as a group, and allow the
aforementioned group to gain and retain more power and say within the operations and actions of
the government. Although the party began as a group of upset farmers, soon after the movement to
create this party had begun, it caught the attention of others. Some industrial workers, and a few
stray others shared similar views as these southern and western farmers, and decided that they
would join the party, in hopes of also gaining authority, and had hope to attempt to stop the
declining economic condition. Although at first, other political parties saw the populists as
humorous, the party began to grow, causing more and more people to be forced to recognize that
the populists were gaining power, and should be taken seriously (Edwards). It started in Kansas,
when William Peffer became the first populist senate member, and shortly after, the party began to
grow. The party soon developed two different branches: Fusionists,

Chile Trench Research Paper
The Peru Chile Trench, also known as the Atacama Trench, is an oceanic trench in the eastern
Pacific Ocean. It s a fault line that is 100 miles off the coast of Peru and Chile, and also happens
to be the fault line that we were assigned. The Peru Chile Trench reaches a maximum depth of
26,460 ft below sea level in Richard Deep and is approximately 3,666 miles long, meaning that the
width is 40 miles and it covers an expanse of about 228,000 square miles.
The trench marks the subduction of the Nazca plate under the South American plate. The Nazca
plate is conveniently named after the Nazca region of the southern part of Peru, and is an oceanic
plate in the eastern Pacific Ocean, right off the west coast of South America. The subduction
mentioned earlier is when Nazca plate is forced down and goes under the South American plate,
where it then digs into the mantle. The subduction of the Nazca Plate below the South American
Plate along the Chile Peru Trench is associated with numerous earthquakes. Several of these

themselves specific features of someone s appearance, communication or movement patterns, but
are results of the lack of public participation, which exacerbate social inequality between people.
The authors of the article argue that one of the ways to overcome the first and second barriers
could be the involvement of team project work of school and university students. In line with this
suggestion, N.A. Lukianova directed a project in autumn 2016, at TPU whereby a team of students
studying Industrial Design completed a portfolio consisting of the results of monitoring and
assessment of the level of accessibility of the architectural environment on campus for students with
disabilities. The portfolio included an interactive map of the campus. The main objectives of this

define norms and rules for assessing accessibility and regulate legal relations in the area of
research. Moreover, they had to develop methodological recommendations for assessing the state of

Evaluation Of The Wheaton Sanitary District
The Wheaton Sanitary District is already using a state of the art monitoring system to track status
and record the measurement of the key plant operational equipment. The Supervisory Control and
Data Access (SCADA) system interfaced with the plant equipment provides, the operation team, a
real time data on the key components of the plant s equipment. SCADA allows operational team to
open, close or adjust equipment parameters to archive maximum efficiency to meet the peak
demand. According to Russell and Taylor (2014), the size and complexity of the problem makes
the decision making often difficult. Further, the flow is controlled by a bottleneck, so any resource
should spend no time on non productive activities, but must have material to work on to overcome
the theory of constrain and the focus should be of automation efforts. SCADA does allow
automation and the data collected from SCADA helps aeration optimization for scheduling which
will ultimately reflect any capacity limitations. The new high energy turbo blowers save 30%
energy to mix and aerate the tanks (Poole, Neighbors, Green, Baert, Sosnowski, and Wold, 2012)
and the control flow provides additional saving with no additional capital cost. The real time
monitoring and the dissolved oxygen (D.O.) measuring in the aeration tanks allows a development
of a new plant control strategies to optimize the system performance thus consuming less power.

The Effects Of Environmental Degradation On The Environment
The human relationship to the environment has evolved over time as humans have made
technological advancements and cultural changes. While some may argue that humanity is distant
from nature, that could not be further from the truth. While the human relationship to nature is not
the same as it may have been in the past, humans still rely on nature for their livelihood. Humans
also have a strong impact on nature, and processes which occur in nature, through their actions.
In the last decade, the issue of environmental degradation has become a topic of global concern and
discussion. This discussion is threading together a narrative that helps the public and scholars better
understand the human relationship to the environment. While this push forward in environmental
agenda is a good thing, there needs to be an ongoing dialogue which allows for the understanding
that environmental degradation is not only a risk to a certain biome, but all of the diversity that
exists within a certain region a good example of this being Papua New Guinea.
The rainforest of Papua New Guinea are incredibly rich and diverse environments; the rainforest not
only houses a wide variety of plant and animal species, but is also home many indigenous groups.
By examining the changes in Papua New Guinea s rainforest throughout time, a better
understanding of the complex and dynamic human relationship to nature will be achieved.

She was beheaded and buried near her cousin, Ann Boleyn. In 1543, the King married for the last
time. Catherine Parr was a very good wife and stepmother. She encouraged Elizabeth and
Edward in their lessons and in their interest in the protestant church. King Henry died in 1547.
Edward became the king at the young age of ten. Elizabeth and Edward remained very close
throughout his reign, and, because they were not allowed to live in the same residence, many
fond letters were exchanged between them. Soon, though, Edward became ill. He, knowing he
probably would not live much longer, made a quick revision to Henry VIII s will. Mary Tudor (a
catholic) was supposed to become queen at his death, but he replaced her with his cousin, Lady
Jane Grey, a protestant. After Edward s death, Jane Grey was queen for ten days before the
public rallied and gave their support to Mary. Jane Grey was executed and Mary was declared
queen. The nation was restored to Catholicism. Mary, to begin with, was polite to Elizabeth. Mary

Post course Views of Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence
Lecture module 2 states, Domestic violence is physical, sexual, psychological or financial violence
that takes place within an intimate or family type relationship and that forms a pattern of coercive
and controlling behavior. Domestic violence may include a range of abusive behaviors, not all of
which are in themselves inherently violent . My definition is very similar to this definition because
it hits the points of physical, sexual, and psychological violence also. Another similarity is the
controlling and power behavior in a relationship within a home. Although, a difference is this
definition says, Domestic violence may include a range of abusive behaviors, not all of which are
in themselves inherently violent , and my first definition it was a constant factor with frequency of
abuse.

There is different groups of offenders including some that are not emotionally aroused at the time of
the offense but are focused and calculating in their attacks and emotionally distant from their
victims, some unlikely to present with personality disorders but often have attachment problems,
others that use aggression to achieve some desired outcome. Those are different characteristics and
values of different offenders.
My views of offenders have changed since I have got to understand not all offenders have the same
thoughts and feelings. Offenders characteristics and values depend on what they see as motivation
and satisfaction for them as an individual. Some factors why offenders abuse include over usage of
drugs or alcohol, past history of seeing their family doing the same actions, psychological problems,

Comparing Lanval And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Female Representation in Lanval and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
During a high point in medieval chivalric romance, both Marie de France s Lanval and the
anonymous Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tell fanciful tales of knighthood, chivalry, and
spiritual and temporal (courtly) love. Both Lanval and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight portray
their female characters as possessing considerable power and influence, within the events in the
story and in the structure of the plot. Indeed, the female characters in both works function as the
catalysts of the events within the stories, and also as instruments for each author s conveyed
meaning. While Lanval presents its female characters in an unorthodox reversal of gender roles,
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight employs the female characters as moral and spiritual trials for
the hero, Sir Gawain. I will examine how the fairy princess and Queen Gwenevere in Marie de
France s Lanval present a reversal of gender roles as was traditionally understood; she presents
femininity as powerful, inspiring, and morally dynamic (for a woman can be ideal, or she can be
corrupt). I will compare this to the representation of Lady Bertilak and Morgan le Fay in Sir Gawain
and the Green Knight, in which they are used to convey a Biblical warning for an ecclesiastical
audience; particularly that of moral failure and the temptation of the flesh. To enrich our
understanding of Lanval it is essential to keep in mind the work s authorship and the

American Conquest Of Africa

How the pre 1600 civilizations in Africa and the Americas obtained, consolidated and maintained

The discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492 and the subsequent conquest of this
continent by Spaniards and Portuguese reverberated from the 16th Century on another region of the
planet, somewhat removed from the events of conquest: Africa.
Although separated both continents by the Atlantic Ocean, with completely different historical,
social and economic developments, from the XVI Century a rapprochement between America and
Africa takes place. The reason for this approach lies in the fact that the conquest of America, with
all the natural wealth and development prospects it offered to its conquerors, required the

Secondly, Toole had detailed information concerning the crimescene that would only be known by
the killer. Thirdly, scores of eyewitnesses identified Toole as the killer.
The book outlines the tireless work done by the bereaved parents in search for justice on behalf of
other missing children. The main attraction of the book is the investigation of the Hollywood Police
Department that exposes the bulging of the investigators that had previously worked on the case.
Standiford and Matthews carefully builds the case against the police. They provide details that
contain numerous leads that were disregarded during the initial investigation. These included some
obvious questions that were never asked, a number of crucial witnesses that were ignored, and
details concerning incomplete or falsified reports. In addition, the fresh investigation of the
investigators exposed evidence that was never examined and a number of vital evidence that got
lost.
The book exposes the most damning revelation concerning ignorance of the Hollywood police
on repeated confessions by a serial killer. The killer had detailed information concerning the
crime that was never made public. However, he was never tried for the crime despite confessing
to the boy s murder. The author does not bend facts to show his artistic skills. He details factual

Online Distance Learning Essay
Online Distance Learning
Throughout the past few decades, online distance learning has become a prevalent method of
teaching. Through the use of technology, the field of education has been slightly altered to fit the
needs of both the educators and their pupils, by developing a communication system. For example,
creating email addresses and generating websites, where the teacher and student can interact. The
development of online distance learning is beneficial to the future of education because it provides
more opportunity for students.

Along with distance learning comes flexibility, convenience, and reliability. For example, there are
never interruptions because the class is web based and students can complete assignments based on
their individual schedules. Online education is possibly the biggest event in American intellectual
life in the past forty years, stated Gerald A. Heeger. This statement expresses how significant
distance learning has become in society.
Contrary to the advantages of distance learning there are a few, minor drawbacks to this style of
learning. Unfortunately, virtual campuses are based on economic profit rather than educational
purposes. Online Professors can t witness student s body language. If I can t see the faces, I can t
know anything about them (Vicchio, Stephen). Since there is no face to face communication,
instructors cannot see the student s reactions, which can result in confusion among the subject
being discussed. In contrast to the traditional classroom setting, which teaches students to interact
with one another, distance learning unfortunately takes away this value. Sitting in front of a
computer, usually surrounded by family, does not allow the student to practice social learning. As

The Five I s of of Transcendentalism in the Modern Day
According to the New York Times, teenagers listen to an average of 2.5 hours of music in a
singular day. The messages coming through in each song may vary between drug/alcohol reference
or transcendentalism. No matter where there is music, there is a lesson to be learned through ideas
that Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreaucreated. Though transcendentalism is a
relatively foreign word to most, it can be defined by using five i s: individualism, inspiration,
intuition, idealism and imagination which are displayed on all platforms of music today. The
different music genres may vary between music from the late 1990 s and children s movies today.

The Lesson By Toni Cade Bambara Summary
Toni Cade Bambara has quite a unique style of writing. She does not have the typical proper style
as other authors do, which shows drastically in her short story The Lesson. Bambara was born in
New York and grew up in Harlem which explains her high influence of writing about African
American lifestyles. In The Lesson she writes about a povertystricken African family who meet a
rich woman that moves into their neighborhood to teach the children. Bambara s unique voice
comes to life in this short story when she uses informal words and phrases, has a relaxed and
informal tone, and incorporates irony into her story. Using all of these components make for an
outstanding story and makes it more realistic and somewhat more relatable. Unlike many authors,

How Swaziland Is A Developing Country
Swaziland is a developing country that is facing many problems which can only be solved through
political reform. Swaziland is located in south eastern Africa and is the last country in Africa to still
have an absolute monarchy. This country has a large health problem, including the highest rate of
HIV in Africa. Swazilands monarch, King Mswati lll, holds all of the power. Swaziland s
economy is stagnant and its economic growth is steadily declining While the king lives a life of
luxury, over fifty percent of the population of Swaziland live in poverty. Swaziland is also a
landlocked countrylocated in an area in which tropical storms are not uncommon. Swaziland is
continuing to struggle as a developing country for these reasons.
Swaziland has a history of struggle and hardships. According to the US Department of State
(2014), September 6, 1968 marked the day that Swaziland finally gained it s independence from
Great Britain. Independence, however, would not mean freedom for the people of Swaziland.
Five years later, King Sobhuza dissolved the parliament of Swaziland on April 12, 1973. This
resulted in King Sobhuza absorbing all political power in the country, which he used to ban all
other political parties from operating. This would pave the way for the future monarchs of
Swaziland to maintain absolute power. One notable party, the Swaziland Democratic Party, was
established on September 24, 2011. They have failed to consolidate any significant political power

Buildings have been part of human life since the beginning of time, we depend of them to live,
learn, grown, for protection and shelter. The decisions we make today will not only affect our
future but our surrounding as well. We need buildings to survive the climates of the earth and to
live our own lives. Architecture is what nature cannot make, yet it is influenced by the rules of
nature, as humans evolved so did our way of thinking, and so did our architecture. Green
architecture is a breakthrough in human history, Green Architecture is more a more advanced way

The LEED criteria are recognized as the building having a positive performance in five areas of
human and environmental health, therefore making the building safer and healthier to live in.
When we think sustainability, it s important that we consider the surrounding, for examples the
trees, rivers and lakes, streets, neighbors and more. The impact of architecture is not only for the
building but for its natural surroundings, by taking advantage of each natural source, to have the
building sustain itself in terms of reducing energy use, taking advantage of storm water and using
that for flushing toilets, using sun light to warm the room and so forth. Sustainability also refers to
the life of the building itself, how long will the building last after it s finished. Green buildings are
made of recyclable material that help the building last longer in structure, its feature is what make it
unique to last longer than average buildings.
Benefits of Green Buildings
Green Buildings have become more than just buildings; they have become a structural living
organism. Green Buildings offer a safer and healthier living environment for the occupants; this can
contribute to an increase in human lifespan, due to minimum exposure to chemical paint materials
and more. They also reduce energy bills due to the features incorporated such as solar panels, which
generate energy by solar radiation. An open glazing design building that offers maximum sunlight

Race and Ethnicity
Ethnicity and race have been used in American society to the point where both words are
indistinguishable from each other. Race is a social construct (Throop, Lecture, 10/8/2015). Race is a
social construct because race is used to differentiate the different ethnic groups from each other.
Race should not be used to separate the different ethnic groups. In American society, it is evident
that certain ethnic groups are singled out for the problems in our society. Usually those ethnic
groups are minorities. African Americans and Latinos are usually the minorities that are singled out
for the problems or benefit of the majority. In the article, Who Dat?: Race and Its Conspicuous
Consumption in Post Katrina New Orleans, Marc Perry states how African Americancitizens were
affected by the devastating hurricane Katrina in 2005 and how the citizens reacted before and after

Students who live in far areas prefer to have a rental house in order to have an easy access to their

Fingerprinting is used for many things, such as a robbery, or at a crime scene. Fingerprints were
first discovered in 1870 by Alphonse Bertillon, who was a French anthropologist. In 1892, Juan

for identification. When America started using fingerprints for identification they had to match the
fingerprints manually when needed. When technology was able to enter fingerprints, and match

Some players would be more chippy and run at people and get away with it without facing the

Claude Lemiuex who played for many teams throughout his 21 year career in the NHL was known
as one of the biggest pests that has been in the league. Pests in the NHL are players that attempt to
antagonize opposing players with physical play and by chirping. He is best known for the
infamous hit on Kris Draper where he hit him from behind, forcing Drapers face into the boards.
Draper suffered a broken jaw, shattered cheek, and orbital bone which needed surgery that
involved his jaw being wired shut and a lot of stitches. This hit lead to the rivalry of the Detroit
Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche. Throughout the next 5 years there were 2 or 3 line
brawls between the two teams that even included the goalies fighting. Darren McCarty got his
revenge on Lemieux in the first brawl since the Draper incident and blindsided him after a
whistle in the game. That game had 18 major fighting penalties that totaled up to 144 penalty

would have done in games to opposing players but by having fighting in the game he knew that
he would have pay for his actions so he did not play how he usually did against the Red Wings.
Lemieux only received a 2 game suspension and $1000 dollar fine for the hit so having someone

IntroFrom the beginning men used God to justify the unjustifiable. Salman Rushdie, The Satanic
Verses. Salman Rushdie points are truly stated and are seen in literature work. The two stories The
Most Dangerous Game and Porphyria s Lover , both portray the characters, General Zaroff and
Porphyria s Lover, as murderers who think they have done nothing wrong. The authors Connell and
Browning use conflict and characterization to convey that some find it easy to justify murder.
DP 1Through the use of external conflict between Zaroff and Rainsford s hunting prowess, and
Porphyria s Lover strangling Porphyria, the authors show how each can easily justify murder.
Rainsford, the main character, fell off his boat and swam ashore a mysterious island. When he
arrived he came across a fortress of sorts, and meet the man incharge, General Zaroff. Zaroff is
talking to Rainsford about his past and the island he lives on. Zaroff tells Rainsford about his
hunting experiences when he says Hunting was beginning to bore me! And hunting, remember, had
been my life(33). This is when Zaroff s internal conflict arises, suffers from ennui in hunting and
wants something more of a challenge to kill. He has been hunting for as long as he can remember
and every beast he has faced, he overcame and killed it, until there was no animal he couldn t kill.
This is what caused Zaroff to want a challenge, something that . must have courage, cunning and,
above all, it must be able to reason.

Essay On Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus started out as just an ordinary person. In fact, according to today s standards
of intelligence, he was below average. Who knew that Copernicus would later become one of the
most intelligent people in the world. Copernicus changed the way that people during the
Renaissance viewed astronomy. Copernicus changed history as we know it today and if it wasn t
for him, today s astronomers may still be theorizing about the basic facts of our solar system.
Nicolaus Copernicus was born on February 19, 1473 in Poland. His parents, Nicolaus and Barbara,
were leading merchants and parented four children, Copernicus being the youngest. Then, when
Copernicus was around 10 to 12 years old, his father died and his brother, Lucas, took his nephew
under protection and was soon to become bishop of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two books taught Copernicus everything he needed to know about astronomy and
astrology. These books also led Copernicus to most of his discoveries and the making of a few
books himself such as De revolutionibus . In this book, Copernicus described viewing the Moon
Eclipse stating it was, the brightest star in the eye of the Bull .
Copernicus had only 27 recorded observations in his lifetime though he most likely had more than
that. He viewed eclipses, planets, stars, and much more. That may not seem very impressive today
but, for Copernicus time period, it was quite a discovery.
Copernicus wrote his book, De revolutionibus , it was only published the year of his death in
1543. The reason for his book with priceless information about our solar system to be published so
late was that it was controversial and many other theorists disagreed with Copernicus claims. It was
only at the year of his death that people realized that Copernicus was

Greed In America
What, exactly, makes an American an American? This question has been asked and answered since
before this country was officially founded. Men and women of a multitude of races and culture
have written and spoke of it. Both ends of the spectrum have been addressed extensively. From
admiring ambition to condemning corruption, nothing has been left out. In America there are three
things that, to me, truly define us. A nationwide greed, awe inspiring in its magnitude, which gives
the Capitalistic system we run on life. A deeply ingrained sense of patriotism, hewn into us by our
revolutionary forefathers, that has earned us many powerful enemies and allies. The underlying
distrust of our own government, which allowed us to create our democracy,... Show more content on

We have the strongest military in the world, with a bigger military budget than the next eight
countries combined, on average. We even extend our military operations into civil wars that
otherwise wouldn t concern us because we are simply asked by that countries leader or an ally.
Unless Congress is sure we will lose, we just throw troops at any country that asks. We then proceed
to make sure it becomes a democracy before leaving. I neither support nor condemn these actions,
but they have a tendency to bring enemies with them. While the military and government are fully
capable of dealing with these adversaries, I must question the fact that they continue to act the
same, despite the opposition it makes them. Regardless, the intense pride the American people feel
for their military and its flaws is simply another thing that makes an American an

The Really Big One By Kathryn Schulz
The Really Big One is an article by Kathryn Schulz about the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a fault line
that runs seven hundred miles along the West Coast. It consists of two tectonic plates where one
plate is sliding underneath another. In this case, the oceanic plate Juan de Fuca is sliding under the
continental plate known as the North American plate. In her article, Schulz repeats the words of
seismologists and scientists alike in the opinion that the Cascadia Subduction Zone is overdue for a
magnitude 9.0 or higher earthquakeand resulting tsunami. No one in the Pacific Northwest is
prepared for it. With historical stories and examples from around the world Schulz warns of the
damage to be done when the Really Big One finally makes itself known.
In her article, Schulz uses three rhetorical appeals. These appeals are called Ethos, Pathos, and
Logos. Aristotle, the Greek philosopher, created these terms to refer specifically to the different
ways they appeal to the reader. Ethos is used to establish credibility, Pathos refers to emotion,
and Logos is the appeal to logic. While the article is packed full of history, science and facts, it s
the appeal to emotion that really draws in the readers and instills curiosity and a desire for action.
Schulz s article is split into five sections. The first section introduces the readers to Chris
Goldfinger, a paleoseismologist at Oregon State University. Goldfinger was at a seismology
conference in Kashiwa, Japan when the 2011 Tohoku

Summary Of Fast Food Nation
This book caught my eye due to the title, Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All American
Meal. Immediately I assumed the book to be all about how fast food is disgusting, fake, and
unhealthy food that is fueling an obesity epidemic. The book does touch on grotesqueness and
fattiness of fast food, but that is not the major theme. This book brings into light the real cost of
fast food: the greed, evil, and power hiding in fast foodcompanies. Fast food restaurants know how
to make their products addicting by targeting younger audiences first. Playgrounds in eating areas,
popular toys included with meals, and advertisements on school buses and inside schools all lure
children to wanting to eat at fast food places. Indeed, market research... Show more content on

The Deviance Behind Drunk Driving Essay
The Deviance behind Drunk Driving Many individuals in today s society wonder what pushes
people past a breaking point in which they become involved in actions not accepted by society,
such as stripping, prostitution, drug use, alcoholism and more. The reasoning behind this is
deviance. Deviance can be either positive (over conforming) or negative (under conforming).
When applying the subject of crime to a type of deviance, it falls under the negative category
because those who under conform in society have a tendency to reach their goals with non
accepted means. Considering the crime of drunk driving, many factors add up to develop a
reason why so many people do it. Merton s strain theory perspective explains the deviance
behind drunk driving very well, using its assumptions, key focuses, and root of deviant acts to
support it. Before focusing on Merton s theory relating to the crime of drunk driving, we first have
to recognize how sociologists understand the concept of deviance. Sociologists believe that
deviance is the result of unsuccessful socialization. With this being said, it makes sense that
deviance surrounds us because not everyone can be perfectly socialized to fit in civilization s
cookie cutter image. Those who cannot fit in tend to become deviant, where they then violate the
norms of society. Once those norms are violated, they are labeled as deviant and will continue to
become more deviant as others define them that way. Sociologists also believe that the

Notes On Principles Of Management
MGMT10002 (Principles of Management)
Critically Analyse a Current (2011 onwards) Article Drawing Upon One Major Management
Concept Covered in The Course.
Corporate Culture, as defined by Daft and Samson (2015, p. 112), is the common code of conduct,
philosophies and suppositions shared between members within an organisation that encompasses
the entirety of it. All organisations have a prevalent culture that can be characterised as either stable
or flexible, concentrating either on its internal or external workings as described by Cameron and
Quinn s (1999, cited in Yazici 2011, p. 21) Competing Values Model (CVM) of culture. This essay
will critically evaluate the chosen article s theory that a company s culture and success is
determined by the attitudes exhibited by its top leaders, rather than the national culture. It will do
so by analysing examples of leaders behaviours, the national culture of a country and the effect of
culture on an organisation.
The leadership behaviours of corporation leaders can affect its culture by influencing the
members of the corporation from top down. Culture is taught to employees by those in
experienced managerial positions; so regularly practised that it becomes the norm, and is then
emulated by new employees who continue the behavioural patterns (Hellriegel et al. 2004, cited
in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87; Kruger 2003, cited in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87). As

Parenting Styles And Styles Of Parenting
Parenting Styles My term paper will discuss the 4 Styles of Parenting, including; the styles of
parenting that we as single parents and couple parents may identify with. My paper will also
discuss how each parenting styles impacts our children, if it works and the style of parenting that s
most effective. Authoritative Parenting Style The Authoritative Style of Parenting, children are
expected to follow the rules and guidelines that a parent with this style of parenting has put into
place. This type of parents are responsive to their children and willing (eager) to listen to questions.
Authoritative parents gives reasonable demands, consistent limits, expresses warmth and affection
which every child, I think, yearns for. Rules are set and reasons behind the rules are explain to
ensure that the child (ren) understands. They re also willing to listen to the child s feelings when
setting these limits. Parents with this style of parenting are flexible and willing to bend the rules in
certain cases for example, allowing the child to stay up an hour pass the normal bedtime, so that the
child can finish watching television. When a child (ren) fail to meet the expectations that an
Authoritative Parent is more of a nurturing and forgiving parent rather than punishing. These types
of parents uses rewards, praises, and positive consequences for good behaviors. Baurmind (1971,
1991) suggests that these parents, monitor and impart clear standards for their children s conduct.

The, The Royal Slave, A True History
People of certain social classes sometimes have stereotyped characteristics pinned to them. Rich
people might be seen as snobbish while poor people might be seen as unmotivated to improve
themselves. The characters in Oroonoko, The Royal Slave, A True History, also have
characteristics based on the social classto which they belong. During the eighteenth century, social
class became a topic of interest in Britain. The characters in Oroonoko can be grouped into three
social classes based on the level of power they have. One class is the rulers such as the King of
Coramatien and Deputy Governor Byam. Next are the people who are neither rulers nor slaves
such as Aboan, Mr. Trefry, and Colonel Martin. Finally, there are the slaves. Because of

The narrator says that when the King saw how Imoinda, a young woman with whom he has
fallen in love, reacted to the gift he sent her in Oroonoko s name, it gave him some affliction, but
he salved it (Behn 2143). Here, the narrator explains that the King was very upset when he saw
that Imoinda was in love with Oroonoko, but he ridded himself of these sad feelings by sending
her the royal veil which forced her to become one of his wives. This shows that the King has a
selfish nature because he could not overcome his desire for Imoinda and let her marry
Oroonoko. This selfishness leads him to betray Oroonoko. Both the King and Byam show
disloyalty since they betray Oroonoko which establishes negative character. This disloyalty is
also distinct to those who are of a high social class position because they are deliberately
betraying Oroonoko as opposed to doing it unintentionally. Because negative traits, such as
disloyalty, are given to characters who have governmental power, a link between negative
character and high social class characters can be established. Another link which can be seen
between social class positon and character is through the characters who are neither rulers nor
slaves having positive character traits. These characters are a middle class by the fact that they do
not rule a colony or country, but they also are not slaves. Also, all of these characters exhibit positive

Trying To Overcome Violence Sociology
Throughout the course of time, violence has been used as a tactic when trying to achieve
something that one does not have already. Some may say that it is a useful tactic, while others
strongly disagree. Although there are scenarios when one has to take risks. For example, if a
business manager needs to keep his company up and running and needs to take risk for the better
of his life and the ones around him, I wouldn t be totally disgusted with him/her. Personally, in the
terms of economics and trying to overcome a conflict, I am on the fence and agree with both sides
of the argument. Honestly, it could go both ways, it s just scaled on how far he/she takes the
violenceand how it s affecting the community around.

Violence is not something we as human beings are supposed to be doing. Like I said before,
Mac and his plan to sabotage that innocent man did result in a positive strike for what the people
believed in. Yet, he also did break that man s leg. There are many examples in life that make it
easier to overcome if you incorporate violence. It might just not be the moral thing to do as a
human being. In addition, in the novel we just read, violence only happened because it was
needed to prove a point to the Grower s Organization and the highest class. Same thing is needed
in any other strikes happening around the world today. In our life today, everything human beings
say or do atomatically involves and disappoints somebody else. People then form an alliance to
try to fight against this other party of sort to stand up for what they believe in. Totally relating
back to In Dubious Battle. There is no way out and sometimes violence is the only method of

Changes in the Land Essay
Reading Worksheet
William Cronon, Changes in the Land
History 2110
Indians
1. How did the Indians occupy the land?
The northern Indians occupied the land much differently from those who lived in the south. The
land was drier in the north, and the soil not as fertile, so agriculture was not a main source of
subsistence. All Indians relied greatly on mobility throughout the seasons for survival. Those in
the south were able to stay in one place for longer however because of the fertility of the soil and
its ability to sustain agricultural needs. The women were mostly in charge of these needs, along
with starting fires, making mats for wigwams, and caring for children. The fires, which were also
more popular in the south, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However at first, many communities only produced a small margin of surplus beyond their own
needs.
2. How did their occupation influence the natural development of the landscape?
With the absence of the great Indian population following the spread of English old world diseases
through the fur trade, the landscape changed drastically. Ironically, the English jumped on the
opportunity to claim new land following each epidemic. Freed from the annual burnings, and soon
to be subject an entirely different agricultural regime, the land began to change. The regrowth of
forest claimed some land unuseful altogether and difficult to travel through. Without the fires,
strawberries and raspberries would not return in such abundance, the edge effect was gone, and as a
result, animal populations were in decline.
3. Did the European Colonists have a concept of land ownership? If so, what was it? What did it
mean to own the land for a European Colonist?
To define property is thus to represent boundaries between people, equally, it is to articulate at
least one set of conscious ecological boundaries between people and things. The property relation
is triadic: A owns B against C , where C represents all other individuals. Yes, European colonists
have a strong concept of land ownership. They believed that there exists two ways of owning land,
one natural, and one

The Farm Of Many Faces
The Farm of Many Faces Polyface Farm is a sustainable, organic based farm located in
Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. It currently is run by four generations of the Salatin family, but the
man with the most influence is Joel Salatin, who was named the worlds most innovative famer by
Time Magazine. Joel and his family took some extremely eroded and worn out land and
transformed it into the innovative, high field, symbiotic based farm it is today through their
unconventional ways. Today they serve upwards to 6000 families, 25 restaurants, and 10 retail
outlets all within a four hour radius, to keep it local and within their food shed.

Polyface holds very similar values to both the farms within The Good Life and The Dirty Life.
The Nearing s weren t too big on the idea of feeding the community as much as they were in to
self sufficiency, but they did heavily rely on the natural system with in their way of life; planning
everything according to seasons and relying on organics. They also believed in the importance of
educating on the subject and allowed people to come, stay, and learn, just like the Salatins. The
Essex Farm has much more in common principles wise. Kristen and Mark s goal was that they
wanted to feed their community good, clean, healthy food, just like the Salatins. Kristen and Mark
achieved this through sustainable practices and dedication to what they love. They maintained their
CSA without advertisement and also focused on the importance of soil health just like the Polyface
farm does. I believe that the Polyface farm is different in a sense that they have dedicated most of
their efforts into creating and maintaining the symbiotic system that occurs within the farm, in
contrast to the farms in The Good life and The Dirty Life.
On Polyface, community is such an important aspect towards the Salatins goals; to provide good
quality food to their food shed. The members who buy from the Salatins are all located within 4
hours of the farm in order to keep their products local. They refuse to mail products so instead they

While if water with a pH above seven (basic) will not cause the person who consumes it any
health effects. It will just have an alkaline taste which may not be pleasing to the consumer. pH
is extremely important to our cells as a slight change in pH in our cells can be harmful. For
example, if the pH of human blood is not maintained, the person will end up dying in a few
minutes. pH is also important to the environment. For example, if precipitation becomes acidic
(a pH of less than 5.6 is considered acidic precipitation), it can kill some organisms in the
environment by interfering with the organisms chemical processes of life. If water is
contaminated, it can be fatal for one to drink. Usually, water is contaminated with contaminants
such as copper, lead, iron, sodium and bacteria. If water is contaminated with higher level of
sodium than there is water, and a person drinks it for a long period of time, it will be unsafe, and
most likely fatal to the person. This is because the person s cells will shrivel up as they are
drinking a hypertonic solution. Thus if one were to drink water with a high sodium concentration
than there is water, they will eventually end up being dehydrated, (due to their cells shrivelling up)
and face an inevitable death if they continue to drink the water that has a high concentration of salt.

  • 2. Being A Sex Worker, By George Bernard Shaw Is morality really as clear cut and defined as we may perceive it to be? Most would agree that things along the lines of murder and rape are clearly immoral and despicable, but what about prostitution? In modern society, the word prostitute might understandably bring many negative connotations to one s mind pimps... sexual abuse...slavery, even especially considering the vast options women in the modern workforce have. One could also assume that no one would ever want to become willful sex worker, but some may see it as a necessary evil to provide for themselves. In Victorian Society, being a sex worker may have been one of the few options open to women of the lower or working class to survive without being forced into the... However, after Vivie learns that her mother is still actively involved in her business, she refuses to accept any more money and unsympathetically cut ties with her. She tells her mother We must part. It will not make much difference to us: instead of meeting one another for perhaps a few months in twenty years, we shall never meet: that s all (Shaw Act IV). To some degree, her opposition to living off the money that is the product of prostitution is honorable and some might see her as an example of the superior moral figure in the play. Vivie clearly has an outstanding moral issue with the business her mother is involved in but is that really fair of her? She seems to suffer from what Jesse Prinz describes in The Death of Morality, as a culturally conditioned response (Philosophy Now). Jesse essentially states that morality is merely a response to the cultural mass point of view. He states, people make moral judgments even when they cannot provide any justification for them (Philosophy Now). It s interesting that Vivie feels so strongly about her mother s business practices considering that she herself is a cultural outcast as a young, educated, woman that has no ambition to marry or have children, and wants to make her own money. Without her mother s efforts to put her through school, what other opportunities would Vivie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Leonardo Da Vinci Leonardo Da Vinci Most people probably think of Leonardo Da Vinci as just a painter but in reality he was actually also a expert drawer, an ingenious inventor, and a marvelous scientist. Over a period of twenty five years Leonard dissected around thirty human bodies as well as cows, birds, frogs, bears, and monkeys. Of these bodies he made over two hundred tedious drawings. Another thing to remember is beings the process of drawing took so long the bodies would start decomposing before he was finished with all of the drawings in which he intended to make. Leonardo Da Vinci was born on Saturday April 15, 1452. His father named Ser Piero Da Vinci was an important man, leading citizen who studied at the University of Vinci, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As most people know Leonardo was a magnificent artist however some people don t realize being an artist doesn t always mean you re good at painting and drawing. Leonardo was originally brought to the Moor who ruled the duchy of Milan by music not art. The Moor became Leonardo s patron after Leonardo painted an altarpiece for the Church of San Francesco Grande. When the Moor decided to make a bronze statue of his father on horseback Leonardo stepped up to take on the task. Leonardo planned to make the horse first then make the rider separately and add it on later. He studied horses drawing the best the Moor had in his stable he also measured them even dissecting horses to make sure he had the plans just right. In 1493 Leonardo displayed his clay model that was full size. He still had to cast the enormous statue, which could prove to be the hardest part of making the sculpture. He invented a new way to get all the molten bronze into the mold quickly so it didn t crack when it cooled. When all the bronze required to make the statue (more than seventy tons) was gathered and the molds made the Moor used the bronze to make cannons. The would be eighth wonder of the world was never cast and when the French captured Milan in 1499 the soldiers used Leonardo s clay model for target practice. It eventually crumbled so even the model of the would be eighth wonder of the world is not around today. As an artist Leonardo also made three famous paintings. The Last ... • 4. The Concept Of Education In Mona Lisa Smile There are two ways in which one leads a classroom of young entrepreneurs of learning. These forms of education are concreted in either a banking concept or problem posing approach. Paulo Freire, the creator of such ideas, is a man who believes in the distinct difference that either reaps learning or destroys it. Banking concept education, according to Freire, is an education that becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor (Freire 244). In simpler terms, banking concept is the lack of true understanding by students. Learning is not a responsibility, instead it is an act to passively check off the list. In contrast, Freire speaks of problem posing as liberating education [that] consists in acts of cognition, not transferrals of information (Freire 249). To expand, Freire is bringing to light that this type of education is the development of genuine, active understanding between teachers and students. Freire believes in critical, investigative work between teachers and students. He believes that the banking concept restricts growth and keeps students and teachers from a true critical understanding of the world. Both banking concept education and problem posing education are evident in the film Mona Lisa Smile. Mona Lisa Smile, a film set in 1953, is a vivid look into Freire s understanding of education. The 1950s, a time of distinct gender roles and spoon fed understanding, promotes an environment at the heart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Comparing Macbeth And Throne Of Blood Celeste Martinez Mr. Ortiz English 12 27 February 2017 Macbeth Comparative Essay In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare and the movie Throne of Blood by Akira Kurosawa, there are two very different narratives. Both specify the same conflict of Macbeth killing Duncan and him becoming king and having the same characters. The narratives do have differences relating to the characters on how the stories both play out. In Shakespeare s play Macbeth the setting takes place in Scotland speaking with their own language. In the movie Throne of Blood the setting is in Japan were of course Japanese is spoken having a difference from both narratives. There are many minor differences stories as they both play out yet the plot seems to be very similar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Shakespeare wrote his plays he always throws in a drama. As for the director of Throne of Blood he put all the drama in the ending. The reason why he took away the scenes of Macduff s family. Kurosawa s narrative became a dramatic irony until the violent ending. Kurosawa did not want Washizu to die at the hands of a grieving father and husband. He decided to end it with Washizu s soldiers killing him making the movie have a dramatic change. As for Shakespeare his play involved of a killer being able to kill the father, Banquo, but not the son, Fleance. Both amazing narratives, yet written differently to end the story of Macbeth s death. As always not everything can be similar from a story to a movie. A movie will always be written or directed in any way the director writes the scripts for the actors. Such as plays they are written the way the writers would want the actors to perform because they would know how the audience will be captivated by the drama. Shakespeare and Kurosawa had different ways to write both narratives yet both came out in their own unique way. As for the audience they could enjoy either both. The same conflicts Macbeth had to show in both narratives was the murder of the king. Later to him becoming a king that he started to kill anyone who tried to come at his way. When he became arrogant he dies in the end ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. THE RACIST MIND In this ambitious work THE RACIST MIND by Raphael S. Ezekiel, the author endeavors to show the crude social Darwinism of the Neo Nazis and Klansmen that exists. Social Darwinists believe that individuals and different groups, like plants and animals, compete with one another for success in life. They argue that survival for the fittest applies to humans and were a means to justify the idea that the White racewas superior to any race, because nature dictated other races didn t have the right genes needed to be superior in society (Wright, 2009). Raphael uses his fieldwork to examine the many different ideologies that contribute to the rise of the Neo Nazis and Klansmen. • 8. The Sexuality Of Women s Sexuality There are certainly many different types of feminists with varying beliefs on various topics. Pornography is one of the most widely disputed of these topics, and has long caused controversy among feminists. Two clear, and distinctly different, sides have been taken by Andrea Dworkin as well as Linda Williams. The former of these two academics has taken the presumably more controversial stance. Dworkin is known for their radical stance that pornographyonly paints women as whores, as that is how they are seen in a male dominated world. She also is of the opinion that the depictions of femalesexuality is accurate to how women are represented in real life: The valuation of women s sexuality in pornography is objective and real because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quote demonstrates not only Williams understanding of female agency but also that female sex workers often exist in contrast to some feminists. Moreover, Williams does acknowledge female passivity in traditional porn: Women, on the other hand, like slaves and boys, were the passive penetrated, who did not move, who were fucked, and who had no power to abstain (Williams, 368). Contrastingly to Dworkin, Williams acknowledges how pornography has changed from its conception, both in terms of how it is produced, as well as how the women are valued and portrayed in the industry, as she follows the story of Annie Sprinkle. It is the opinion of this author that Williams more accurately represents pornography than Dworkin. Based on the opinions of many authors explored in this unit, it would seem that the terms pornography and feminism could be considered antonyms. I am sure that many anti pornography feminists would sooner turn over in their graves before deciding that the two could be correlated. But is that necessarily true? I personally believe that aspects of feminism can be found everywhere, and can be applied in the strangest of places. It is for this reason that I believe that pornography has the capability to be feminist, though it rarely is. In its creation, women certainly were passive members who had no agency in their participation nor the consumption of pornography. Pornography was kept hidden and censored out of ... Artemis plans on doing this by the means of fairies. He learned of their possession of gold, which lead him to kidnap a fairy with the intention of making a profit. Artemis Fowl the second, a twelve year old genius, is the protagonist of the story. He is a pale boy who is gifted with computers, and he spends most of his time indoors. This quote is important because it shows Artemis growing sympathy for Holly. It marks how he is changing as a character, adopting a more warm hearted personality. This is displayed on multiple occasions, an example being Artemis making jokes, which is very unusual. Another example for this is his devotion to his mother, always helping her, who suffers from some type of illness that involves her memory. 3. • 10. Bad News Bears Movie Analysis Essay MicKayla Lizama Intro to Psychology Bad News Bears (2005) Movie Analysis Explanation of Concept: Defense mechanisms are ways to reduce anxiety or help someone cope. One of these defense mechanisms is rationalization. Rationalization is when a person tries to explain an action that has happened in a more positive way. Rationalization is a way to make an action more acceptable, even if this rationalized explanation is illogical. Application of concept: An example of rationalizing in the movie Bad News Bears (2005, Linklater) would be in the scene where Mike Engelberg breaks Morris Buttermaker s car window by hitting it with a baseball that he has thrown. • 11. The Populist Party And The Socialist Party The Populist Party is often referred to as the party of and for the people, and is labeled as such because it was, very candidly, founded by the common people, such as farmers and other laborers. While this party was in power, they had many ambitions and ideas that they sought to spread to others, and aspired to achieve. To understand the topic completely, one requires a general knowledge of the formation of the populist party, the elemental beliefs, goals and ideals, and how the downfall of the party came about, as this will aid in the understanding of the populist party s want of free coinage of silver and how it would have helped debtors initially, but would have had a comprehensive and unfavorable effect on the American economy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, almost all of the populist party could be put under one label: Debtors. The farmers involved sought to regulate prices and make them affordable, while industrialists sought to regulate the hours in a work day. The people were left in great debt and hoped that these actions may soon begin to lift the economic depression that they were facing. The main idea of the populist party was to unite the common and poor people so that they may gain power as a group, and allow the aforementioned group to gain and retain more power and say within the operations and actions of the government. Although the party began as a group of upset farmers, soon after the movement to create this party had begun, it caught the attention of others. Some industrial workers, and a few stray others shared similar views as these southern and western farmers, and decided that they would join the party, in hopes of also gaining authority, and had hope to attempt to stop the declining economic condition. Although at first, other political parties saw the populists as humorous, the party began to grow, causing more and more people to be forced to recognize that the populists were gaining power, and should be taken seriously (Edwards). It started in Kansas, when William Peffer became the first populist senate member, and shortly after, the party began to grow. The party soon developed two different branches: Fusionists, ... It s a fault line that is 100 miles off the coast of Peru and Chile, and also happens to be the fault line that we were assigned. The Peru Chile Trench reaches a maximum depth of 26,460 ft below sea level in Richard Deep and is approximately 3,666 miles long, meaning that the width is 40 miles and it covers an expanse of about 228,000 square miles. The trench marks the subduction of the Nazca plate under the South American plate. The Nazca plate is conveniently named after the Nazca region of the southern part of Peru, and is an oceanic plate in the eastern Pacific Ocean, right off the west coast of South America. The subduction mentioned earlier is when Nazca plate is forced down and goes under the South American plate, where it then digs into the mantle. Evaluation Of The Wheaton Sanitary District The Wheaton Sanitary District is already using a state of the art monitoring system to track status and record the measurement of the key plant operational equipment. The Supervisory Control and Data Access (SCADA) system interfaced with the plant equipment provides, the operation team, a real time data on the key components of the plant s equipment. SCADA allows operational team to open, close or adjust equipment parameters to archive maximum efficiency to meet the peak demand. While the human relationship to nature is not the same as it may have been in the past, humans still rely on nature for their livelihood. Humans also have a strong impact on nature, and processes which occur in nature, through their actions. In the last decade, the issue of environmental degradation has become a topic of global concern and discussion. This discussion is threading together a narrative that helps the public and scholars better understand the human relationship to the environment. While this push forward in environmental agenda is a good thing, there needs to be an ongoing dialogue which allows for the understanding that environmental degradation is not only a risk to a certain biome, but all of the diversity that exists within a certain region a good example of this being Papua New Guinea. The rainforest of Papua New Guinea are incredibly rich and diverse environments; the rainforest not only houses a wide variety of plant and animal species, but is also home many indigenous groups. Although she had, at times, a horrible temper and a disagreeable personality, and suffered through many physical and psychological problems as an adult, Elizabeth proved to be one of the most remarkable monarchs in English history. Firstly, I will discuss Elizabeth s family (including her many stepmothers), and then I will talk about her relationship with her siblings under their power. Elizabeth and Edward remained very close throughout his reign, and, because they were not allowed to live in the same residence, many fond letters were exchanged between them. Soon, though, Edward became ill. He, knowing he probably would not live much longer, made a quick revision to Henry VIII s will. Mary Tudor (a catholic) was supposed to become queen at his death, but he replaced her with his cousin, Lady Jane Grey, a protestant. After Edward s death, Jane Grey was queen for ten days before the public rallied and gave their support to Mary. Jane Grey was executed and Mary was declared queen. The nation was restored to Catholicism. Mary, to begin with, was polite to Elizabeth. Mary looked at her sister with warmth and tolerance, provided her reconciliation to the Church could be brought about, Mary was ready, not entirely to trust her, but to treat her with sisterly kindness (Jenkins, 1965, p. 41). • 21. Comparing Lanval And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Female Representation in Lanval and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight During a high point in medieval chivalric romance, both Marie de France s Lanval and the anonymous Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tell fanciful tales of knighthood, chivalry, and spiritual and temporal (courtly) love. Both Lanval and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight portray their female characters as possessing considerable power and influence, within the events in the story and in the structure of the plot. Indeed, the female characters in both works function as the catalysts of the events within the stories, and also as instruments for each author s conveyed meaning. While Lanval presents its female characters in an unorthodox reversal of gender roles, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight employs the female characters as moral and spiritual trials for the hero, Sir Gawain. I will examine how the fairy princess and Queen Gwenevere in Marie de France s Lanval present a reversal of gender roles as was traditionally understood; she presents femininity as powerful, inspiring, and morally dynamic (for a woman can be ideal, or she can be corrupt). I will compare this to the representation of Lady Bertilak and Morgan le Fay in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, in which they are used to convey a Biblical warning for an ecclesiastical audience; particularly that of moral failure and the temptation of the flesh. To enrich our understanding of Lanval it is essential to keep in mind the work s authorship and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Race And Ethnicity And Race Zamarripa 1 Marcos Zamarripa Anthropology 9: Society and Culture October 27, 2015 Race and Ethnicity Ethnicity and race have been used in American society to the point where both words are indistinguishable from each other. Race is a social construct (Throop, Lecture, 10/8/2015). Race is a social construct because race is used to differentiate the different ethnic groups from each other. Race should not be used to separate the different ethnic groups. In American society, it is evident that certain ethnic groups are singled out for the problems in our society. Usually those ethnic groups are minorities. African Americans and Latinos are usually the minorities that are singled out for the problems or benefit of the majority. In the article, Who Dat?: Race and Its Conspicuous Consumption in Post Katrina New Orleans, Marc Perry states how African Americancitizens were affected by the devastating hurricane Katrina in 2005 and how the citizens reacted before and after hurricane Katrina to the relocation of African Americans to other places for the restructuring of New Orleans (Perry). He is best known for the infamous hit on Kris Draper where he hit him from behind, forcing Drapers face into the boards. Draper suffered a broken jaw, shattered cheek, and orbital bone which needed surgery that involved his jaw being wired shut and a lot of stitches. This hit lead to the rivalry of the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche. Throughout the next 5 years there were 2 or 3 line brawls between the two teams that even included the goalies fighting. Salman Rushdie points are truly stated and are seen in literature work. The two stories The Most Dangerous Game and Porphyria s Lover , both portray the characters, General Zaroff and Porphyria s Lover, as murderers who think they have done nothing wrong. The authors Connell and Browning use conflict and characterization to convey that some find it easy to justify murder. DP 1Through the use of external conflict between Zaroff and Rainsford s hunting prowess, and Porphyria s Lover strangling Porphyria, the authors show how each can easily justify murder. Rainsford, the main character, fell off his boat and swam ashore a mysterious island. When he arrived he came across a fortress of sorts, and meet the man incharge, General Zaroff. Zaroff is talking to Rainsford about his past and the island he lives on. Zaroff tells Rainsford about his hunting experiences when he says Hunting was beginning to bore me! It consists of two tectonic plates where one plate is sliding underneath another. In her article, Schulz repeats the words of seismologists and scientists alike in the opinion that the Cascadia Subduction Zone is overdue for a magnitude 9.0 or higher earthquakeand resulting tsunami. With historical stories and examples from around the world Schulz warns of the damage to be done when the Really Big One finally makes itself known. Aristotle, the Greek philosopher, created these terms to refer specifically to the different ways they appeal to the reader. Ethos is used to establish credibility, Pathos refers to emotion, and Logos is the appeal to logic. While the article is packed full of history, science and facts, it s the appeal to emotion that really draws in the readers and instills curiosity and a desire for action. • 45. The Deviance Behind Drunk Driving Essay The Deviance behind Drunk Driving Many individuals in today s society wonder what pushes people past a breaking point in which they become involved in actions not accepted by society, such as stripping, prostitution, drug use, alcoholism and more. The reasoning behind this is deviance. Deviance can be either positive (over conforming) or negative (under conforming). When applying the subject of crime to a type of deviance, it falls under the negative category because those who under conform in society have a tendency to reach their goals with non accepted means. Considering the crime of drunk driving, many factors add up to develop a reason why so many people do it. Merton s strain theory perspective explains the deviance behind drunk driving very well, using its assumptions, key focuses, and root of deviant acts to support it. Before focusing on Merton s theory relating to the crime of drunk driving, we first have to recognize how sociologists understand the concept of deviance. Sociologists believe that deviance is the result of unsuccessful socialization. With this being said, it makes sense that deviance surrounds us because not everyone can be perfectly socialized to fit in civilization s cookie cutter image. Those who cannot fit in tend to become deviant, where they then violate the norms of society. Once those norms are violated, they are labeled as deviant and will continue to become more deviant as others define them that way. Sociologists also believe that the ... Corporate Culture, as defined by Daft and Samson (2015, p. 112), is the common code of conduct, philosophies and suppositions shared between members within an organisation that encompasses the entirety of it. All organisations have a prevalent culture that can be characterised as either stable or flexible, concentrating either on its internal or external workings as described by Cameron and Quinn s (1999, cited in Yazici 2011, p. 21) Competing Values Model (CVM) of culture. This essay will critically evaluate the chosen article s theory that a company s culture and success is determined by the attitudes exhibited by its top leaders, rather than the national culture. It will do so by analysing examples of leaders behaviours, the national culture of a country and the effect of culture on an organisation. The leadership behaviours of corporation leaders can affect its culture by influencing the members of the corporation from top down. Culture is taught to employees by those in experienced managerial positions; so regularly practised that it becomes the norm, and is then emulated by new employees who continue the behavioural patterns (Hellriegel et al. 2004, cited in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87; Kruger 2003, cited in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87). Here, the narrator explains that the King was very upset when he saw that Imoinda was in love with Oroonoko, but he ridded himself of these sad feelings by sending her the royal veil which forced her to become one of his wives. This shows that the King has a selfish nature because he could not overcome his desire for Imoinda and let her marry Oroonoko. This selfishness leads him to betray Oroonoko. Both the King and Byam show disloyalty since they betray Oroonoko which establishes negative character. This disloyalty is also distinct to those who are of a high social class position because they are deliberately betraying Oroonoko as opposed to doing it unintentionally. Because negative traits, such as disloyalty, are given to characters who have governmental power, a link between negative character and high social class characters can be established. Another link which can be seen between social class positon and character is through the characters who are neither rulers nor slaves having positive character traits. The northern Indians occupied the land much differently from those who lived in the south. The land was drier in the north, and the soil not as fertile, so agriculture was not a main source of subsistence. All Indians relied greatly on mobility throughout the seasons for survival. Those in the south were able to stay in one place for longer however because of the fertility of the soil and its ability to sustain agricultural needs. The women were mostly in charge of these needs, along with starting fires, making mats for wigwams, and caring for children. The fires, which were also more popular in the south, ... Ironically, the English jumped on the opportunity to claim new land following each epidemic. Freed from the annual burnings, and soon to be subject an entirely different agricultural regime, the land began to change. The regrowth of forest claimed some land unuseful altogether and difficult to travel through.
