The Personification Of Death In The Seventh Seal And
Everyman
Everyman is a morality play from the 15th century with no known author, and The
Seventh Seal is a 1950 s fantasy film about a knight returning from the Crusades.
Although the timelines for these two pieces don t match up, they share a lot of
similarities: the most prominent of which being the personification of deathinto a
character. Both pieces feature death as an ever present entity and solidify the inevitability
of death. However, through the characterizations of death within these two pieces, the
two offer differing views on the role of religion in human mortality, and the creators offer
interesting views of human relationships with death himself. One of the initial
confrontations with death in both pieces features the concept of delaying death. In
Everyman, the titular character is confronted by death as God s messenger and he
initially attempts to bribe death. However, death states Everyman, it may not be by no
way. / I set not by gold, silver, nor riches, / Nor by pope, emperor, king, duke, nor princes
(124 6). By stating this, the author further highlights the inevitability of death. Following
this statement, Everyman is given the opportunity to find those who would walk with
him to face death, thus delaying his demise. Similarly, Antonius Block, of The Seventh
Seal, attempts to play chesswith death in order to, at least initially, delay his perishing.
Both characters become focused on beating death in some way, but the results further
substantiate death s

Comparative Analysis of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum Sensing Techniques in
Cognitive Radio Networks
Abstract: In the last two decades, the number of wireless communication users and its
applications increasing rapidly. With this rapid growth there exists spectrum scarcity.
One of the best solutions to avoid spectrum scarcity is cognitive radio with its dynamic
spectrum sensing. Cognitive radio is a promising technology, which is used to sense the
unused spectrum in an appropriate manner. Various methods have been proposed in the
past, such as energy detection, matched filter and so on [1 6 7]. Different techniques serve
different purpose based on their advantages and disadvantages.
In this paper, the author suggests an approach of dynamic threshold to increase the
probability detection of spectrum sensing. Spectrum sensing using energy detection,
matched filter detectors based on fixed threshold and dynamic threshold are simulated
using MATLAB. The performance of energy detection, matched filter detector is
compared by plotting probability detection versus signal to noise ratio graph.

Drones Research Essay
In August of 2012 an engineer from Yemen by the name of Faisal bin Ali Gaber, lost
his cousin and brother in law to a drone strike that was sent with no warning to the
town. The CIA and the US military had been using the deadly and lethal drones for well
over a decade, also resulting in a death a few weeks prior to the incident in Yemen. The
US government notices and has taken steps in trying to reduce their attack numbers, but
the strikes were not eliminated fully, still resulting in more deaths. The drone usage
should have stricter regulations to reduce the attacks by the US military, not only do they
take innocent lives, they also cost a fortune and are being used as killer weapons without
restrictions.
In the present day, many companies have developed tons of drone models ranging in
different sizes, lengths, and power usage. The two most used drones for attack are the
MQ 1 Predator and the MQ 9 Reaper, and are looked up to for their ability to hover
thousands of feet off the ground and above their target for hours with high resolution
surveillance. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Community-Acquired MRSA
Abstract
Hospital settings have harbored a disease causing organism called Methicillin resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) since the 1960s. However, hospitals aren t the only
settings at risk of a MRSA outbreak. In recent years healthy communities have seen a
genetically distinct strain of MRSA, called community acquired methicillin resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (CA MRSA). Although this organism has been less resistant to
antibiotics, it is more virulent and capable of causing illnesses (Alex Letizia, 2007). The
community should be aware of the risk factors for this infection and understand its signs,
symptoms, and management.

Risk factors of CA MRSA include: skin to skin contact with an infected person, loss of
integrity allowing penetration of bacteria into the body, contact with contaminated items
and surfaces, crowded living conditions, sharing personal items, poor hygiene, having a
history of ectopic dermatitis, and exposure to family members or friends who work in a

high BMI, participating in cosmetic body shaving, coming into contact with a draining
lesion or is a carrier of MRSA, and sharing contaminated equipment (Alex Letizia,
Piano Concerto Analysis
The piano concerto in the 1800s was still very standard. By 1850, the piano was still
being used in a conventional manner. The two Brahms piano concerti are demonstrative
of Brahms employing a classical, conservative style. The first concerto is in a traditional
three movements, with a long orchestral introduction, a slow second movement, and a
rondo finale. The second concertocame decades later and is in four movements. In the
first movement, the pianointerrupts the horn solo that begins the piece. The second
movement is a scherzo. The slow third movement has a cello solo beginning the
movement, giving a prominent role to the orchestra, not just the piano. The final
movement goes back to tradition. Both concerti are exceedingly long, clocking in around
fifty minutes.
Tchaikovsky also wrote all three piano concerti post 1850. These pieces also demonstrate
the influence of nationalism, showing distinctively Russian themes. The Second
Concerto, similar to Brahms, features a violin and cello solo in the second movement,
creating a piano trio amongst the greater orchestration. The Third Concerto was
originally a symphony but completed as a one movement work for piano and orchestra.
Saint Saens wrote five concerti for piano, in addition to several other programmatic
pieces for piano and orchestra, including Wedding Cake and Africa. This was a
divergence in form from the standard concerti, creating one movement works where both
piano and orchestra were featured, rather than
Plan With The End Of Mind
The goal of this step is to learn to plan with the end in mind. Once you know what your
semester project is going to be, you want to think through what will it take to get there.
You need to have some type of work product that represents your project: this document
outlines a plan to keep you on track to complete your project in a timely manner. We
understand that your planning may shift and evolve as you work on the project that is
not unexpected and should provide a good learning experience. This documentis simply
your initial planning reflecting how you think you can get from start to finish.

Essay about Satan in Paradise Lost and The Myth of Sisyphus
Satan s predicament after he falls in Paradise Lost is utterly hopeless, yet he chooses to
persevere. He reasons that he should continue to struggle, even though he is aware that it
is entirely in vain. The process he follows to arrive at this choice is similar to the process
Albert Camus will use to justify the unrelenting toil of his absurd man. Before this
becomes apparent, portions of Satanas a character must be eliminated from
consideration, because they present an intractable set of problems. Prior to his
rebellion, Satan is a divine being, who stood st in Heav n, upright and pure, (IV, 936
37) like God and the other angels. We do not get a clear portrayal of this character, only
Satan s and Raphaels memories and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once Satan has been irredeemably dammed, however, he becomes an entirely
different character. He becomes essentially human, in that he simply is a conscious
being who exists and has the choice to either continue to exist, or give up, without any
external evidence to give him a justification for continuing. It is unclear whether
suicide is actually an option for him. Since his continued existence is at God s
pleasure, we could say it is not Satan s choice at all, but then everything Satan does is
ultimately at God s pleasure. And God has given him free will, whatever that means. It
is sufficient to say that Satan does have the option to choose to want to die, event if he
might actually be able to carry out this act. But he does not choose that, nor does he
choose to see take the certainty that his predicament can not really improve as a reason
to just quit trying. Where does he get his justification for this choice? He has to make it
up from whole cloth. The objective evidence says there is no point. He ignores this, and
instead invents a purpose for himself. Once he has succeeded in convincing himself to go
on, he as solved the problem of the absurd man, and may presumably continue to apply
this same solution indefinitely. He may fail and fail, but that changes nothing. He began
in failure and hopelessness, and
Informative Speech About Gymnastics
Would you ever choose something that you love so much, but you know will impact
the rest of your life? Would you be willing to compromise your current lifestyle or what
could happen in your future? Those are choices that you are required to decide before
entering any sport, but those questions are most prevalent when wanting to join
gymnastics. In my life I have faced tons of pros and cons in result of this sport, but
made this choice long ago. I chose to put timeand energy into doing what I love and
doing it whenever I can, but I also chose to compromise my growing and all of the
other opportunities that I occasionally miss. Today I will be covering how gymnastics
impacts your growth, this is due to genetic and environmental factors, your
developmental stage, and high impacts on your bones. The first reason your growth is
impacted, is different genetic and environmental factors. According to WebMD, growth
is based on three important factors that either help you grow faster, slower, or at a
normal pace. These include stress (the feeling of tension and nervousness), exercise,
and nutrition (obtaining the food needed to grow). Stress is proven to stunt growth if it
is over a long period of time, and doing competitive gymnastics for a long time can
cause this stress. Exercise, is another cause for stunted growth because of overdeveloped
muscles, promote damaged ligaments and muscles. Nutrition is the final environmental
factor that causes this. Accordingly, when you don t gain all of your proper nutrients or
you burn through them too fast, your body doesn t have all of the nutrients needed to
grow. As you are growing up if you are constantly doing gymnastics, your body learns to
cope with all of the forces that are put onto it. The combination of those factors
combined, may set your boneage back two years. For example, since I am 14 my bone
age is actually 12. The second reason, is that your developmental stage is also affected.
Also according to WebMD, your developmental stage can be affected in consequence of
over practicing can lower your hormonelevels. This is what sets back your growth spurts.
If you don t quit gymnastics with enough time to continue developing, you may never
have a proper growth

She says: Being lazy is when you are unwilling to do something while procrastinating is
when you intend to do something but you re just postponing the work. By distinguishing
these two words, Jill makes it very clear to the readers that procrastination and laziness do
not represent the same thing. Procrastination is not as bad as being lazy. This comparison
shows Jill acknowledges that there is a misunderstanding of procrastination. Therefore,
knowing the difference between procrastinating and being lazy is very crucial in
redefining the word procrastination . Here, clarifying any confusion by using comparison
helps develop the idea of what does it mean to procrastinate, which contributes to the
main points of this essay. To explain why procrastination is not unacceptable, Jill not
only uses comparison but also effectively uses questions to further illustrate why
procrastination is not

As it was stated, DeBeers was attempting to mislead the public by only providing
information about certain water sources that they did not contaminate, but decided to
hide information about the ones that had various chemicals in them that were released.
(Bridge, 2016) This is quite concerning as mercury and methylmercury, which is a
relative to mercury are both highly toxic, and can both pose a danger to not only the
animals, fish and vegetation in the area, but humans as well if it builds up in the
waterways. Their reports can be used not only with the Ontario government, but with the
company as well showing that they previously did not follow their agreements, allowing
the community to have a stronger voice during the negotiation process.
It should be noted that the Ontario government requested the company to self monitor
itself and report on the mercury and methylmercury levels near the open pit Victor mine,
but the Wildlands League reports otherwise and this is a concern for the community
these events can happen in their area as well. This also raises concerns with the
government failing to provide proper oversight on the company s operations. If the
government sees that DeBeers did not follow their previous agreement that they signed
then this will mean stricter rules and oversight on the company. Plus there will be harsher
fines if they do not follow.

The Relationship Between Corporate Governance And...
1. This article focuses on the Gompers, Ishii, and Metrick (GIM, 2003) study which
found that strong shareholder rights lead to higher stock price returns and thus value.
This is a great indicator that good governance has a direct effect on the performance of
the firm. The article finds that corporate governance has a positive impact on the firm
/ management/ shareholders. However good governance is not always the correct metric
of evaluation for firms and boards. The primary finding of the article is from an economic
analysis defending the relation between corporate governance and performance. This
article examines the relationships among corporate governance / corporate performance
/ capital structure / and corporate ownership structure. Many of the past studies have
taken into consideration only one measure of governance, while this study focused on
seven different governance measures. The article also looks at the performance of a firm
and the relationship it has with management turnover or disciplinary actions required.
2. This article examines Swiss companies in relation to how board size affects the
value of a firm. The study did not find significant correlation between board size having
a negative impact on firm value or profitability; this is contrary to many previous
studies ( e.g. Yermack, 1996). This article argues against the findings of Jensen (1993)
and Lipton and Lorsch (1992), which stated that larger boards have a negative effect on
firm value; in fact
My Experience That Changed My Life
In my lifetime, there have been many breathtaking and wonderful experience s I have
had the pleasure in being a part of, only one experience comes to mind when I think
about a personal experience that s dear to me. The experience that is most dear to me
would be one that changed my view on life and the path I had paved for myself along
the way.
Ordinarily, when I was seventeen years old and still in school life was hard and very
stressful, I know many people would say that life was easy with no bills to pay and a
roof over my head, but my living environment wasn t the issue. The main issue I had
when I was still in school was the pressure I had resting on my shoulders, my family
always had high hopes, and expectations for me, and I always felt so overwhelmed
when it came to school and the grades we were given each quarter on our report cards. I
didn t want to disappoint my family and ruin their view towards me as a still in progress
student at Haines City High School, when it came down to it, I failed and I felt so
horrible knowing I would have to repeat the year because I was either slacking in
homework or being poorly graded on classroom assignments. As soon as I started seeing
the world in black and white and losing hope for graduation, I got called to the schools
main office for a parent teacher conference. At that moment I was frightened, not because
of my grades or my work ethics, but because that conference had the potential to change

Econometric Analysis of Capm
Prepared by: Lok Kin Gary Ng, contact email: gary_ng_@hotmail.com May, 2009
School of Economic Introduction The analysis of this paper will derive the validity of
the Fama and French (FF) model and the efficiency of the Capital Asset Pricing Model
(CAPM). The comparison of the Fama and French Model and CAPM (Sharpe, 1964
Lintner, 1965) uses real time data of stock market to practise its efficacy. The implication
of the function in realistic conditions would justify the utility of the CAPM theory. The
theory suggests that the expected return demanded by investors on a risky asset depends
on the risk free rate of interest, the expected return on the market portfolio, the variance
of the return on the market portfolio, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, Fama French s three factor model flourished when considering the market
book value and the size of business. Additionally, in Fama and French s (1996) paper,
they concluded Sharpe Lintner s CAPM has never been an empirical success.
According to the current study, the factors that affected the Beta are serious enough to
invalidate most applications of the CAPM Even though there are flaws in the CAPM
for empirical study, the approach of the linearity of expected return and risk is readily
relevant. As Fama French (2004:20) stated ... Markowitz s portfolio model ... is
nevertheless a theoretical tour de force. It could be seen that the study of this paper
may possibly justify Fama French s study that stated the CAPM is insufficient in
interpreting the expected return with respect to risk. This is due to the failure of
considering the other market factors that would affect the stock price. Specification of
model The primary estimated model is presented as; rprft = О±0 + ОІ1(rmrf)t +
ОІ2(smb)t + ОІ3(hml)t + Оµt This FF three factor model is derived from the CAPM
(Peirson et al, 2007); E(Rp)t Rft = (1(E(Rm) Rf)t Given that; (i = Cov(Rp,Rm) = risk
factor on the portfolio with respect to the market. ((m)2 This leads to the secondary
estimated model, this can be rewritten as; rprft = (0t +(1(rmrft) + Оµt Under both of
these models; Assume a common pure rate of interest, with all

IV. Alternative Actions Action One: Repeal or loosen Asiana s policy on full use of
automation. Advantages: Allowing to let the pilots choose when to use automation
equipment would result in them being more vigilant and aware of what the aircraft is
doing instead of assuming its right. Disadvantages: Doing so could lead to more crashes
due to misjudgment of the pilot. Action Two: Ensure proper crew resource management
(CRM) is being used in the cockpit. Advantages: Crew members being able to show their
concern or make quick decisions to avoid an accident that they see coming but the others
do not. Disadvantages: It could possibly lead to inexperienced crew members making
poor decisions against the captains will because they think they are right. V.
Recommendations Any airline policy that says pilots should rely on automation rather
than their own judgement should be repealed. Although some human factors can lead to
a crash there is no better system to use than human intuition or your gut feeling .

INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES
In computing, input/output, or I/O, refers to the communication between an information
processing system (such as a computer), and the outside world possibly a human, or
another information processing system. Inputs are the signals or data received by the
system, and outputs are the signals or data sent from it. The term can also be used as
part of an action; to perform I/O is to perform an input or output operation. I/O devices
are used by a person (or other system) to communicate with a computer. For instance, a
keyboard or a mouse may be an input device for a computer, while monitors and printers

government led the state and region towards session from the union infighting the civil
war. John Caldwell Calhoun was born March 18th 1782 in the Abbeville district which
is now known as McCormick County. Calhoun was the fourth child to Patrick Calhoun
and his wife Martha Caldwell. At the age of seventeen when Calhoun s father became
sick he quit school and began working on the family farm. With financial help from his
brother he was able to eventually get the chance to begin attending school again. He
attended both common and private schools and he eventually studied law

Poetic Device Paper In the poem After Making Love We Hear Footsteps , Galway
Kinnell creates the speaker in a way to really portray what he believes true love to be
once long married . The author gives great sensory details, engulfing you into the night
that he produced from these fickle meters. The speaker in the poem puts family high on
this list of priorities as the author shows a significant amount of importance to them from
using a few clever poetic devices. Although Kinnell could have put a little more thought
into scansion to create even more of a deeper meaning, this poem is very emotional and
touching to the senses as well as giving great morality to what a man ... Show more

Originality of the poem is derived from the fact that this poem is from a man s
perspective, finding love to be so blessing. It is usually the woman who becomes
sentimental towards these types of things, for women are typically more emotional of
the two sexes. As I try not to stereotype men, in today s society being an emotional man
makes you less of one but, in the eyes of love, the man in this poem does not seem to
care. With morality taking control, the poem After Making Love We Hear Footsteps
tells a man what should be seen of love, the making of it and how children should be
made rather than a mistake or unwanted. Many men do not appreciate the genuine love
of a woman and children, nor do we see respect given to them or the idea of settling
down and being long married . Few men seem to see the blessing of making love and
what it is for rather than just the physical pleasure. Although the author doesn t give too
much thought into letting the reader know that the characters are in an outside world,
he does include the universal baseball player to place a reminder that in fact they are in
a world, even if it s in a world of their own. The author Galway Kinnell does not give
enough attention to the scansion of the poem as the feet run from one to nine meters. Yet
this may make the reader notice the wide variety of feet in each meter, comparing to
them footsteps. Figuratively speaking, the husband doesn t mind drinking

Wicked Book Report
Pre Reading Wicked, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz I never really liked The Wonderful
Wizard of Oz. The lion, scarecrow, and tin man were all characters that kind of freaked
me. I think this had to do with their costumes, the lions faces creeped me out. As of
Wicked I now there is a musical, which I have not seen. Overall, I am kind of excited
to read the book. While Reading Wicked So the book starts out with a prologue of the
witch spying on the Lion, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Dorothy. As the story continues,
Elphaba who was born with green skin grew up living a rough childhood. Elphaba
green skin made her stick out and be an outcast. Elphaba had a sister named Nessarose.
Elphaba attends college later with her sister Nessarose. During these years Elphaba meet

The Impact Of Social Media On Organizations
The use of social media in organizations websites cannot be underscored. According to
Barnes Mattson (2009b), embracing social media in organizations is not an option in
business strategic planning, but a necessity and huge opportunity. This is because most
of the organizations are using social media to change the way they carry out public
relations and other practices. The paper is focused on StarbucksCorporation that is an
American worldwide coffeecompany. Starbucks offers coffee houses that are chain
based in Washington and Seattle. Additionally, this corporation is the largest company
that offer coffeehouse globally; it has not less than 20,366 coffee stores in more than
60 countries; 13,123 of the stores are in U.S, 793 are in U.K, 1,299 in Canada and
others stores are in China, South Korea, Mexico, Thailand, Taiwan and other parts of
the country. Consequently, it is important to examine how the company employs the
use of social media to meet the demands and the needs of its customers. From their
sites, it is evident that Starbucks have devoted its resources to social media; as a result,
the company is able to engage various stakeholders in dialogs on Twitter, Facebook, and
Google. From the site, at the bottom you can access the three social media by clicking
on Facebook, Twitter, and Google icons provided.
From the history given in Starbucks website, the company was opened in Settle in

All Men Are Created Equal By Thomas Wwain
Commonly, people believe that Thomas Jefferson is a hypocrite, due to the fact that one
of his most famous quotes is all men are created equal . Although that was one of his
famous quotes, he owned slaves all throughout his lifetime. The topic over slavery
including Thomas Jefferson is extremely controversial today in America.
In each excerpt, each author clearly addressed the issue of presentism. In Wilson s
excerpt he addressed the issue of presentism by, considering the time eras as well as the
dilemmas that Jefferson faced. Wilson wrote that Jefferson knew that slavery was sinful,
but freeing the slaves when they had been slaves their whole life was not the logical
answer. In Finkelman s excerpt he addressed the issue of presentism, because he said
Jefferson fails the test . There was not a literal test, but based on Finkelman s belief and
attitude toward the past, Jefferson failed Finkelman s test. In our present day, our
principles do not allow majority of Americans to presume, that Jefferson owning slaves
and pushing the belief that all men are created equal, is not hypocritical. Majority of the
people in America today would perceive Thomas Jefferson as a deceiver and would not
take him seriously. Both authors, Wilson and Finkelman, use the ethical standard that
slavery is wrong to evaluate Jefferson. They use the evidence that Jefferson was a slave
owner. Wilson thinks that Jefferson meets the ethical standard in his era. He believes
that, although slavery is
How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Essay
How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry
Seamus Heaney was born in the North of Ireland in 1939 on a farm with his mother and
father and nine other siblings. Generally Heaney s poems are influenced by animals
through his childhood experience, specifically within The Early Purges and An
Advancement of
Learning . Heaney grew up near Belfast, during the time of The
Troubles , the Irish civil war. Although Heaney left at the height of the war, it is obvious
his work reflects his experiences of that time.
For an example The Early Purges illustrates this. Where they consider death unnatural .
Growing into an environment where Heaney will appreciate that death does exist, the

They seem weak and terrified.
Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill
and dung to suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste,
as the word purges means getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates
what happens when flushing a toilet, therefore getting rid of waste.
Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about
the killing of the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions
by suggesting the kittens have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung
and the kittens are sluiced on the dunghill. The word sluiced means
flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the
poem we are viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does
not like the killing as he uses words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens
are innocent and harmless. The words, For days I sadly hung round the yard, watching
the three sogged remains and the fear came back suggest he was affected by the carnage
and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of the poem he is forced to accept
the killing and torture.
Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just
shrug, Bloody pups . It makes sense . He is almost imitating Dan Taggart at this point to

Clinton Chisholm s Womb Rights
The compelling article Womb Rights by Clinton Chisholm was written May 12, 1995.
The article expresses the perspective of the author on the controversy of abortion.
Elaborating on the beauty of motherhood, the author denounces abortions and expresses
the irony of this dilemma. The writer puts forth different arguments, from a first person
perspective, that targets his audience who include the Jamaican Government, doctors and
women of the Jamaican society. His intentions are to challenge and persuade his audience
to carefully consider the practice of abortion and its legality. This article, therefore
presents two types of writing styles, which are argumentative the dominant style and
persuasive being the other. In expressing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He begins the article in a way that implies to readers that his opinion is consistent
throughout. The author believes that Child s Month should be held in a higher regard
than Mother s Day and conveys that women should be grateful to be mothers. The
author says this from his own experience and perspective of what being a mother is
should be. He further declares that motherhood is amazing without any credible sources
of a survey. ...the responsibilities of motherhood is awesome... this view is completely
of the author s. Moreover, he admits that the arguments that he conveys are solely his
opinions: It s a bit crazy in my view. In denouncing abortion, Chisolm allows his opinion
to dominate the article, which has impacted it negatively, as it reduces its credibility and
risks readers doubting his
Vermeer In Bosnia By Lawrence Weschler
In the text Vermeer in Bosnia by Lawrence Weschler, Weschler builds an argument
surrounding the need of inventing peace . Throughout the text, Weschler refers to
different individuals to build up his claim. In each part, Weschler focuses and describes
each individual as a unique existence. From murders to peacemakers, from past to
present, Wechsler individualizes them from their groups in order to look at each with an
unbiased, holistic point of view, developing a clear goal for achieving peace. To further
develop his argument, Weschler focuses on Jan Vermeer, an artist who spent his entire
life dedicated to drawing an ideal, peaceful environment which was non existent during
his time. Weschler repeatedly included Vermeer in different

Maybe it s my lack of artistic taste, but even after the realization, I was still unable to
arrive at the same interpretation of the woman in the portrait as Weschler.
Legacy, on the other hand, is clearly defined and nearly constant even as a large span
of time has passed. Vermeer does include legacies, but with limited use, cutting off a
reliable source to back up his argument. The use of interpretations allows his argument
to be disputed and possibly rejected. After years of continuous violence and war, it is
unlikely to seek out and prosecute the few that initiated the conflict since they are
most likely no longer around anymore. Even if a descendant is found, individuality
alone may not suffice for prosecution, nor will it necessarily be a step towards
inventing peace. They might as well put up a random stranger, make up a case, and
claim to have prosecuted the root of the evil. On the other hand, prosecuting a family
known to have a legacy of criminal and inhumane acts is much more likely to lead to
step towards inventing peace. Though it may disregard the individuals involved, it will
truly be the end of one bloody legacy.
There are many instances where legacy trumps the interpreted individuality. In Ta Nehisi
Coates article The First White President , he brings up the idea of the white legacy aka
the bloody heirloom and uses it to describe Donald Trump s presidency. Coates develops
an argument surrounding
The Medieval And Renaissance Era
Things will inevitably change, no doubt that s a fact. Some people don t like change, but
change is something that is always going to happen no matter what; either for better or
worse. For instance, there are things that can change shortly from this very moment. If
things can change in a very short time, how much more in hundreds of years. For the
purpose of this paper, we re going to address the fundamental changes in the Medieval
and Renaissanceera over those hundreds of years, especially concerning architecture, in
which brought us to our present. The Medieval and Renaissance eras significantly altered
the history not only through philosophy but through art and architecture as well in which

With all these chaos going on, it only makes sense that when they finish a plan they
stick with it since they wanted to hasten the completion of a project with less people
since many died due to the reasons addressed before war and plague.
On the other hand, after hundreds of years, our dear ancestors, whom I m so thankful
for, stumbled upon this idea that practicality of life in earth is supposed to be our
priority instead of worrying so much about this vague idea of the afterlife. They
basically started the idea of YOLO (You Only Live Once). Not only that, they also
became obsessed with science and reasoning, another thing I m oh so thankful for. They
were also infatuated with simple geometry, precise symmetry, and the system of
proportion The Golden Mean, just like in ancient Romans. They badly wanted to revive
the ancient Roman architecture that they stuck with one specific style unlike the
Medieval period. In addition, since the religious dogma is not the main law of land
anymore, structures built during the Renaissance period were able to flexibly embody
these characteristics without further problems. Many structures were built for wealthy
families, such as the Medicis, to show off their influence. As a result, the aesthetics of the
buildings became the priority instead. The structure of the building was still very
important, but they re now less visible as the architects then did

These species of jellyfish are usually found in the South Georgia Islands and Antarctica
but are not found in areas like the Arctic Ocean. Even though they tend to stay in these
regions, where they move depends on the movement of their prey and how conditions
are in their current location. When they are forced to move they use their tentacles
and also their coronal groove which gives them the flexibility to move around faster

The sun is a major threat to how they live and could kill them if they get direct sunlight

The Importance of Ben Loman in in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Ben Loman is an important character in Death of a Salesman but he is quite unusual.
The audience encounters Uncle Ben during Willy Loman s hallucinations of the past
and as a result, it is tempting to disregard his character as just another creation of Willy
s delusional mind. However, Ben is much more than that. His character is representative
of Willy s unrealistic dreams as well as the realty of his life.
When the audience first encounters Ben (Miller 44), he represents the success that Willy
is striving for. Before the audience learns of the success that Ben encountered in Africa,
they see him on the stage accompanied by an idyllic musical motif ... Show more content

This time, however, Ben s motif, which turns out to be more sinister than idyllic,
precedes him; sotto voce at first then coming to a crescendo as repressed suicidal
thoughts come forward when Willy loses his job (Launsberry). When Ben finally
appears, Willy must ask him, how did you do it? (Miller 84) Ben s theme is heard for the
last time towards the end of the play in accents of dread (Miller 133) as Willy finally
resolves to commit suicide so that Biff may receive the insurance money. While the
idyllic theme music that accompanies Ben ad his father would at first seem to represent
Willy s positive memories of the past and optimistic views of the future, they really
represent selling out and abandonment. They oppose the fine theme of nature that begins
and ends the play (Launsberry).
Ben is also a very peculiar character. The audience first encounters him with the full
knowledge that he is dead. Ben is also the one figure that is able to move freely between
the past and the present. Because Ben represents that which Willy seeks, Willy feels that
he can achieve his goal the same way that Ben did and so he believes that opportunism,
cheating and cruelty are success incarnate (Smith).
Ben is also a peculiar character in that he is not really a character. For one, he was
completely a figment of Willy s imagination. He also does not appear inn the requiem
(Smith). In a Paris Review Interview, Miller acknowledged

  • 2. The Personification Of Death In The Seventh Seal And Everyman Everyman is a morality play from the 15th century with no known author, and The Seventh Seal is a 1950 s fantasy film about a knight returning from the Crusades. Although the timelines for these two pieces don t match up, they share a lot of similarities: the most prominent of which being the personification of deathinto a character. Both pieces feature death as an ever present entity and solidify the inevitability of death. However, through the characterizations of death within these two pieces, the two offer differing views on the role of religion in human mortality, and the creators offer interesting views of human relationships with death himself. One of the initial confrontations with death in both pieces features the concept of delaying death. In Everyman, the titular character is confronted by death as God s messenger and he initially attempts to bribe death. However, death states Everyman, it may not be by no way. / I set not by gold, silver, nor riches, / Nor by pope, emperor, king, duke, nor princes (124 6). By stating this, the author further highlights the inevitability of death. Following this statement, Everyman is given the opportunity to find those who would walk with him to face death, thus delaying his demise. Similarly, Antonius Block, of The Seventh Seal, attempts to play chesswith death in order to, at least initially, delay his perishing. Both characters become focused on beating death in some way, but the results further substantiate death s
  • 3. Comparative Analysis Of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum... Comparative Analysis of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum Sensing Techniques in Cognitive Radio Networks Abstract: In the last two decades, the number of wireless communication users and its applications increasing rapidly. With this rapid growth there exists spectrum scarcity. One of the best solutions to avoid spectrum scarcity is cognitive radio with its dynamic spectrum sensing. Cognitive radio is a promising technology, which is used to sense the unused spectrum in an appropriate manner. Various methods have been proposed in the past, such as energy detection, matched filter and so on [1 6 7]. Different techniques serve different purpose based on their advantages and disadvantages. In this paper, the author suggests an approach of dynamic threshold to increase the probability detection of spectrum sensing. Spectrum sensing using energy detection, matched filter detectors based on fixed threshold and dynamic threshold are simulated using MATLAB. The performance of energy detection, matched filter detector is compared by plotting probability detection versus signal to noise ratio graph. Keywords: Spectrum Sensing, Cognitive Radio, Wireless Communication, Energy Detection, Matched Filter, Probability Detection and Threshold. I. Introduction: The recent trend in cognitive radio related research has altered s great of deal of interest in spectrum sensing and detection of radio users in the environment [5]. In general, the spectrum user signals are categorized into primary

Drones Research Essay In August of 2012 an engineer from Yemen by the name of Faisal bin Ali Gaber, lost his cousin and brother in law to a drone strike that was sent with no warning to the town. The CIA and the US military had been using the deadly and lethal drones for well over a decade, also resulting in a death a few weeks prior to the incident in Yemen. The US government notices and has taken steps in trying to reduce their attack numbers, but the strikes were not eliminated fully, still resulting in more deaths. The drone usage should have stricter regulations to reduce the attacks by the US military, not only do they take innocent lives, they also cost a fortune and are being used as killer weapons without restrictions. In the present day, many companies have developed tons of drone models ranging in different sizes, lengths, and power usage. The two most used drones for attack are the MQ 1 Predator and the MQ 9 Reaper, and are looked up to for their ability to hover thousands of feet off the ground and above their target for hours with high resolution surveillance. On November 16 17 an event by the name of the Global Drone Summit will bring together people from across the world who discuss the strategies to put an end to the proliferation of drones used for
  • 6. Community-Acquired MRSA Abstract Hospital settings have harbored a disease causing organism called Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) since the 1960s. However, hospitals aren t the only settings at risk of a MRSA outbreak. In recent years healthy communities have seen a genetically distinct strain of MRSA, called community acquired methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA MRSA). Although this organism has been less resistant to antibiotics, it is more virulent and capable of causing illnesses (Alex Letizia, 2007). The community should be aware of the risk factors for this infection and understand its signs, symptoms, and management. Keywords: community acquired MRSA, methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, risk factors for CA MRSA Staphylococcus aureus: Potential danger in the community Staphylococcus aureus, a microorganism, is the leading cause of today s infection in the hospital setting in the US. • 7. Piano Concerto Analysis The piano concerto in the 1800s was still very standard. By 1850, the piano was still being used in a conventional manner. The two Brahms piano concerti are demonstrative of Brahms employing a classical, conservative style. The first concerto is in a traditional three movements, with a long orchestral introduction, a slow second movement, and a rondo finale. The second concertocame decades later and is in four movements. In the first movement, the pianointerrupts the horn solo that begins the piece. The second movement is a scherzo. The slow third movement has a cello solo beginning the movement, giving a prominent role to the orchestra, not just the piano. The final movement goes back to tradition. Both concerti are exceedingly long, clocking in around fifty minutes. Tchaikovsky also wrote all three piano concerti post 1850. These pieces also demonstrate the influence of nationalism, showing distinctively Russian themes. The Second Concerto, similar to Brahms, features a violin and cello solo in the second movement, creating a piano trio amongst the greater orchestration. The Third Concerto was originally a symphony but completed as a one movement work for piano and orchestra. Saint Saens wrote five concerti for piano, in addition to several other programmatic pieces for piano and orchestra, including Wedding Cake and Africa. This was a divergence in form from the standard concerti, creating one movement works where both piano and orchestra were featured, rather than

  • 9. Essay about Satan in Paradise Lost and The Myth of Sisyphus Satan s predicament after he falls in Paradise Lost is utterly hopeless, yet he chooses to persevere. He reasons that he should continue to struggle, even though he is aware that it is entirely in vain. The process he follows to arrive at this choice is similar to the process Albert Camus will use to justify the unrelenting toil of his absurd man. Before this becomes apparent, portions of Satanas a character must be eliminated from consideration, because they present an intractable set of problems. Prior to his rebellion, Satan is a divine being, who stood st in Heav n, upright and pure, (IV, 936 37) like God and the other angels. Once Satan has been irredeemably dammed, however, he becomes an entirely different character. He becomes essentially human, in that he simply is a conscious being who exists and has the choice to either continue to exist, or give up, without any external evidence to give him a justification for continuing. It is unclear whether suicide is actually an option for him. Since his continued existence is at God s pleasure, we could say it is not Satan s choice at all, but then everything Satan does is ultimately at God s pleasure. And God has given him free will, whatever that means. It is sufficient to say that Satan does have the option to choose to want to die, event if he might actually be able to carry out this act. But he does not choose that, nor does he choose to see take the certainty that his predicament can not really improve as a reason to just quit trying. Where does he get his justification for this choice? He has to make it up from whole cloth. The objective evidence says there is no point. He ignores this, and instead invents a purpose for himself. Once he has succeeded in convincing himself to go on, he as solved the problem of the absurd man, and may presumably continue to apply this same solution indefinitely. He may fail and fail, but that changes nothing. He began in failure and hopelessness, and
  • 10. Informative Speech About Gymnastics Would you ever choose something that you love so much, but you know will impact the rest of your life? Would you be willing to compromise your current lifestyle or what could happen in your future? Those are choices that you are required to decide before entering any sport, but those questions are most prevalent when wanting to join gymnastics. In my life I have faced tons of pros and cons in result of this sport, but made this choice long ago. I chose to put timeand energy into doing what I love and doing it whenever I can, but I also chose to compromise my growing and all of the other opportunities that I occasionally miss. Today I will be covering how gymnastics impacts your growth, this is due to genetic and environmental factors, your developmental stage, and high impacts on your bones. The first reason your growth is impacted, is different genetic and environmental factors. According to WebMD, growth is based on three important factors that either help you grow faster, slower, or at a normal pace. These include stress (the feeling of tension and nervousness), exercise, and nutrition (obtaining the food needed to grow). Stress is proven to stunt growth if it is over a long period of time, and doing competitive gymnastics for a long time can cause this stress. Exercise, is another cause for stunted growth because of overdeveloped muscles, promote damaged ligaments and muscles. Nutrition is the final environmental factor that causes this. Accordingly, when you don t gain all of your proper nutrients or you burn through them too fast, your body doesn t have all of the nutrients needed to grow. As you are growing up if you are constantly doing gymnastics, your body learns to cope with all of the forces that are put onto it. The combination of those factors combined, may set your boneage back two years. For example, since I am 14 my bone age is actually 12. The second reason, is that your developmental stage is also affected. Also according to WebMD, your developmental stage can be affected in consequence of over practicing can lower your hormonelevels. This is what sets back your growth spurts. If you don t quit gymnastics with enough time to continue developing, you may never have a proper growth

  • 12. The Definition Of Procrastination Hong Yu English (2B) Mr. Kasper 2017/11/15 Partner Essay Analysis In Jill s personal essay, she uses the first person point of view to talk about her definition of procrastination. This essay is probably written right before the due date because she said: I just went on my phone again, knowing that I better finish this essay soon. This essay is a product of procrastination, so readers should not be surprised to know that Jill thinks procrastination is a good thing. However, they are looking forward to her reasoning. The purpose of this essay is to provide readers with another way of thing procrastination it is not bad but rather good. She says: Being lazy is when you are unwilling to do something while procrastinating is when you intend to do something but you re just postponing the work. By distinguishing these two words, Jill makes it very clear to the readers that procrastination and laziness do not represent the same thing. Procrastination is not as bad as being lazy. This comparison shows Jill acknowledges that there is a misunderstanding of procrastination. Therefore, knowing the difference between procrastinating and being lazy is very crucial in redefining the word procrastination . Here, clarifying any confusion by using comparison helps develop the idea of what does it mean to procrastinate, which contributes to the main points of this essay. To explain why procrastination is not unacceptable, Jill not only uses comparison but also effectively uses questions to further illustrate why procrastination is not

Some other actors that may make an impact during the negotiation can include the provincial government of Ontario, and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society s Wildlands League. They are all needed to understand the main actors, which are the DeBeers Company as well as the aboriginal community, as they can help explain the context of what is happening and why each demand is necessary in the negotiation. As it was stated, DeBeers was attempting to mislead the public by only providing information about certain water sources that they did not contaminate, but decided to hide information about the ones that had various chemicals in them that were released. (Bridge, 2016) This is quite concerning as mercury and methylmercury, which is a relative to mercury are both highly toxic, and can both pose a danger to not only the animals, fish and vegetation in the area, but humans as well if it builds up in the waterways. Their reports can be used not only with the Ontario government, but with the company as well showing that they previously did not follow their agreements, allowing the community to have a stronger voice during the negotiation process. It should be noted that the Ontario government requested the company to self monitor itself and report on the mercury and methylmercury levels near the open pit Victor mine, but the Wildlands League reports otherwise and this is a concern for the community these events can happen in their area as well. This also raises concerns with the government failing to provide proper oversight on the company s operations. If the government sees that DeBeers did not follow their previous agreement that they signed then this will mean stricter rules and oversight on the company. Plus there will be harsher fines if they do not follow. Starting Position and Reasoning The most concerning part that should be
  • 14. The Relationship Between Corporate Governance And... 1. This article focuses on the Gompers, Ishii, and Metrick (GIM, 2003) study which found that strong shareholder rights lead to higher stock price returns and thus value. This is a great indicator that good governance has a direct effect on the performance of the firm. The article finds that corporate governance has a positive impact on the firm / management/ shareholders. However good governance is not always the correct metric of evaluation for firms and boards. The primary finding of the article is from an economic analysis defending the relation between corporate governance and performance. This article examines the relationships among corporate governance / corporate performance / capital structure / and corporate ownership structure. Many of the past studies have taken into consideration only one measure of governance, while this study focused on seven different governance measures. The article also looks at the performance of a firm and the relationship it has with management turnover or disciplinary actions required. 2. This article examines Swiss companies in relation to how board size affects the value of a firm. The study did not find significant correlation between board size having a negative impact on firm value or profitability; this is contrary to many previous studies ( e.g. Yermack, 1996). This article argues against the findings of Jensen (1993) and Lipton and Lorsch (1992), which stated that larger boards have a negative effect on firm value; in fact

The experience that is most dear to me would be one that changed my view on life and the path I had paved for myself along the way. Ordinarily, when I was seventeen years old and still in school life was hard and very stressful, I know many people would say that life was easy with no bills to pay and a roof over my head, but my living environment wasn t the issue. The main issue I had when I was still in school was the pressure I had resting on my shoulders, my family always had high hopes, and expectations for me, and I always felt so overwhelmed when it came to school and the grades we were given each quarter on our report cards. I didn t want to disappoint my family and ruin their view towards me as a still in progress student at Haines City High School, when it came down to it, I failed and I felt so horrible knowing I would have to repeat the year because I was either slacking in homework or being poorly graded on classroom assignments. As soon as I started seeing the world in black and white and losing hope for graduation, I got called to the schools main office for a parent teacher conference. At that moment I was frightened, not because of my grades or my work ethics, but because that conference had the potential to change my families,

Econometric Analysis of Capm Prepared by: Lok Kin Gary Ng, contact email: gary_ng_@hotmail.com May, 2009 School of Economic Introduction The analysis of this paper will derive the validity of the Fama and French (FF) model and the efficiency of the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM). The comparison of the Fama and French Model and CAPM (Sharpe, 1964 Lintner, 1965) uses real time data of stock market to practise its efficacy. The implication of the function in realistic conditions would justify the utility of the CAPM theory. The theory suggests that the expected return demanded by investors on a risky asset depends on the risk free rate of interest, the expected return on the market portfolio, the variance of the return on the market portfolio, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, Fama French s three factor model flourished when considering the market book value and the size of business. Additionally, in Fama and French s (1996) paper, they concluded Sharpe Lintner s CAPM has never been an empirical success. According to the current study, the factors that affected the Beta are serious enough to invalidate most applications of the CAPM Even though there are flaws in the CAPM for empirical study, the approach of the linearity of expected return and risk is readily relevant. As Fama French (2004:20) stated ... Markowitz s portfolio model ... is nevertheless a theoretical tour de force. It could be seen that the study of this paper may possibly justify Fama French s study that stated the CAPM is insufficient in interpreting the expected return with respect to risk. This is due to the failure of considering the other market factors that would affect the stock price. Specification of model The primary estimated model is presented as; rprft = О±0 + ОІ1(rmrf)t + ОІ2(smb)t + ОІ3(hml)t + Оµt This FF three factor model is derived from the CAPM (Peirson et al, 2007); E(Rp)t Rft = (1(E(Rm) Rf)t Given that; (i = Cov(Rp,Rm) = risk factor on the portfolio with respect to the market. ((m)2 This leads to the secondary estimated model, this can be rewritten as; rprft = (0t +(1(rmrft) + Оµt Under both of these models; Assume a common pure rate of interest, with all

Disadvantages: Doing so could lead to more crashes due to misjudgment of the pilot. Action Two: Ensure proper crew resource management (CRM) is being used in the cockpit. It is usually the woman who becomes sentimental towards these types of things, for women are typically more emotional of the two sexes. As I try not to stereotype men, in today s society being an emotional man makes you less of one but, in the eyes of love, the man in this poem does not seem to care. With morality taking control, the poem After Making Love We Hear Footsteps tells a man what should be seen of love, the making of it and how children should be made rather than a mistake or unwanted. Many men do not appreciate the genuine love of a woman and children, nor do we see respect given to them or the idea of settling down and being long married . Few men seem to see the blessing of making love and what it is for rather than just the physical pleasure. In each excerpt, each author clearly addressed the issue of presentism. In Wilson s excerpt he addressed the issue of presentism by, considering the time eras as well as the dilemmas that Jefferson faced. Wilson wrote that Jefferson knew that slavery was sinful, but freeing the slaves when they had been slaves their whole life was not the logical answer. In Finkelman s excerpt he addressed the issue of presentism, because he said Jefferson fails the test . There was not a literal test, but based on Finkelman s belief and attitude toward the past, Jefferson failed Finkelman s test. In our present day, our principles do not allow majority of Americans to presume, that Jefferson owning slaves and pushing the belief that all men are created equal, is not hypocritical. Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill and dung to suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste, as the word purges means getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates what happens when flushing a toilet, therefore getting rid of waste. Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about the killing of the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions by suggesting the kittens have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung and the kittens are sluiced on the dunghill. The word sluiced means flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the poem we are viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does not like the killing as he uses words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens are innocent and harmless. The words, For days I sadly hung round the yard, watching the three sogged remains and the fear came back suggest he was affected by the carnage and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of the poem he is forced to accept the killing and torture. Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just shrug, Bloody pups . It makes sense . He is almost imitating Dan Taggart at this point to justify

Tentacles help when they need to move around in the water. These species of jellyfish are usually found in the South Georgia Islands and Antarctica but are not found in areas like the Arctic Ocean. Even though they tend to stay in these regions, where they move depends on the movement of their prey and how conditions are in their current location. When they are forced to move they use their tentacles and also their coronal groove which gives them the flexibility to move around faster by the pulsations of the deltoid muscles in the bell (Sornes, 2008). These jellyfish tend to stay deep in the water and avoid the surface unless they are trying to mate. They also move towards the surface when it s night time because the sun is not a danger to them. The Importance of Ben Loman in in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Ben Loman is an important character in Death of a Salesman but he is quite unusual. The audience encounters Uncle Ben during Willy Loman s hallucinations of the past and as a result, it is tempting to disregard his character as just another creation of Willy s delusional mind. Ben is also a peculiar character in that he is not really a character. For one, he was completely a figment of Willy s imagination. He also does not appear inn the requiem (Smith). In a Paris Review Interview, Miller acknowledged
