Economic System In America
When in the course of economic virtue, the United States of America has woefully relied
on the mixed economic system of Capitalism, where men are not created equal, but
rather the prosperous become richer while the impoverished become poorer. For more
now than ever has our nation needed a balanced economic system that does not neglect
our povertystricken citizens. Our government should be here to serve our citizen s
welfare and not to neglect them.
For our beautiful nation s infrastructure has long since been crumbling, as many countries
keep improving on their roads, drinking water, and schools; the United States still has a
D+ in infrastructure as ranked by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
As carbon dioxide and pollution slowly kills both the people and the environment, the
United States government begins to discard many of the regulations meant to protect us,
so companies can make a few bucks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rich rely on the poor, as there is only so much money to go around.
You wouldn t accept a dictatorship in our government, so why would you allow them in
our economy. In most of today s businesses, the CEO s enjoy sitting on fat stacks of
cash, while the workers only get minimum wage and have no control over the product.
Is this the country you want to reside in? One that takes away rights that protect you
from greedy corporations that care nothing for their customer, but instead to fatten their
wallets. Were you slowly die from the poisons coming from unregulated factories. The
United State government is so used to ignoring and robbing the poor that there is not an
ounce of regret when there are laws passed against them. The only way for America to
succeed is to open ourselves to the idea of democratic
Man La Mancha Rhetorical Devices
The first song that I will be evaluating will be Man La Mancha. The first thing that I
noticed that my section did really well was the dynamics at measure seventeen. The
whole band could work on is staying in balance with other people because you could
pick out certain voices in the sections. In delsonaya we really could of brought down
are volume when the flute solo came in because she could be barley heard over the
band. The bass voices could improve on ninety eight because when we would come up
in the menacing it sounded as if we were slurring the notes and not making them
prominent. the trumpet on the solo at the start was amazing and sounded perfect and
was played musically. This was one of my favorite songs in are concert and I think
The Theme of Kate Chopin’s “the Storm” Essay
Kate Chopin in the Storm uses symbolism in characters to develop the theme that
marriages are not perfect. Although there is a physical storm in the story, there is also a
storm of emotions. Chopin is able to convey the emotions of her characters throughout
the story because the storm that takes place at the very beginning of her story. As the
storm approaches Calixta is home sewing, while husband Bobinot and son Bibi are out at
the store. Bobinot notices the sombre clouds that were rolling with sinister intention from
the west, accompanied by a sullen, threatening roar. (page 394) The description makes it
obvious that it s a threatening, dangerous storm. The father and son decide to remain at
the store till the storm passed by.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They did not heed the crashing torrents, and the roar of the elements made her laugh as
she lay in his arms (page. 396) The storm reaches its climax, as do Calixta and Alcee,
and in his arms she is no longer scared, she now laughs at the roaring storm. The growl
of the thunder was distant and passing away. The rain beat softly upon the shingles...
(p. 396). The storm is passing, the threat is over The storm is menacing, it rolls in
somber...with sinister intention. Chopin allows us to see the storm build up slowly,
reaching its highpoint, and passing. The storm builds chaotically to its climax, Alcee
and Calixta are together. As the storm dies out and fades away everything is quiet
again in terms of the relationship. The reader can make the assumption that the
marriages are unharmed, but it shows that they aren t perfect. Once the storm has
passed and all is normal, Alcee leaves and Calixta s family returns. Bobinot and Bibi
make themselves look presentable for Calixta, the over scrupulous wife (page 397) after
going through the heavy roads and wet fields the storm left behind. Calixta seemed to
have forgotten the encounter she had with Alcee moments before, and seemed to express
nothing but satisfaction at their safe return. (page 397) The family sat at the table and
enjoyed themselves for the remainder of the time, everything was forgotten and back to
normal. Alcee the same night wrote to his wife, Clarisse, who was out of
Glorification Of Anti-Intellectualism
Draw down with that Glock, b*tch don t make no/ sound/ Say somethin and get shot,
b*tch face down to/ the ground/ I ain t got no respect, you might think I m dumb/ I m
just 17 with a whole lotta money/ I ain t got no education, I dropped out of school. The
following lyrics come from 17 year old, Baton Rouge rapper, NBA YoungBoy. As he
has embarked on his journey to sudden stardom, a strong fanbase of adolescent black
youth continue to support his promotion of violence, vulgar language, and most
importantly his glorification of anti intellectualism. Anti intellectualism is defined as
opposing or hostile to intellectuals or to an intellectual view or approach, by Meriam
Webster dictionary. Within the black community the glorification of anti intellectualism
is all too common and rappers such as NBA YoungBoy are not solely to responsible
for this plague. When the first African slaves arrived at Jamestown in 1619 a group of
people would be robbed of not only their culture, family, language, but their opportunity
to have knowledge and education. Slaves were robbed of common intellectual activities
and often left uneducated, illiterate, and dependent on their masters. Slave masters were
able to maintain this dependency as they did not allow slaves to seek education. Due to
the slaves limited intellectual ability slave masters were able to manipulate and therefore
control their slaves. This same method of control can be seen in today s Black America as
Socialist Concepts in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair Essay
Socialist Concepts in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair The beginning of the book starts
out at Jurgis and Ona s wedding, or more specifically, the after party. This scene
establishes how these two main characters look, and how they and the rest of the
characters act. Jurgis is a big man with thick black hair that goes nearly to his eyes. He
is very muscular and well built. Ona is a small woman; her whole body is able to
disappear in Jurgis s arms. She is soft spoken, little in appearance and in personality.
Cousin Marija is a big woman; she is established in the first part of the book as a very
pushy and loud person. At the after ceremony of the weeding, there is much food, drink
and fun. It is tradition that the family pays for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning, only Jurgis worked, he would not have Ona working. It was not
long until it was realized that she would have to work, along with the children and the
old and the sick. Everyone would have to work in order to keep alive, in order to feed
each other and keep warm in the winter. The difficulty of finding a job in Packingtown
was hard enough. The characters also had to walk to work everyday, often in below
zero temperatures. The book also describes the process of speeding up . Men would
have to work at a pace unthinkable to modern society. People were literally worked to
death. There were always accidents at work and dying was not unusual. The book also
describes the horrible processes of the meat packing industry. Nothing is clean about
the business. ...the beef had lain in vats full of chemicals, and men with great forks
speared it out and dumped it into trucks, to be taken to the cooking room. When they
had speared out all they could reach, they emptied the vat on the floor, and then with
shovels scraped up the balance and dumped it in to the truck. This floor was filthy, yet
they set Antanas with his mop slopping the pickle into a hold that connected with a sink,
where it was caught and used over again forever; and if
My Profession Of Counseling Psychology
As a child first it was I was going to be a police officer and no one could tell me
otherwise, then it was I m going to be second grade teacher but by mid junior high
going into high school there were no more changes my mind was set on being a
psychologist. It was my eleventh grade that I knew which one specifically I wanted to
be, a counseling psychologist and my grandma always telling me that people is my job
suit. My value, strengths and interests all rely on building relationships and caring for
others and their feelings. As a result, when I fulfill these needs I feel so greatly
accomplished and beyond satisfied.
Everyone should have values they stand for one hundred percent. My values are
relationships, independence, and support. Achievement and recognition fall into my
academic values meaning I like to use my best abilities and see results vastly, however,
in my profession of counseling psychology you have to work towards something to
make progress or see your patient put effort. With that being said, I wouldn t really
need recognition I would feel I accomplished my job if we make progress and my
patient don t come out as they came. Relationships and support are two big factors I
will need to build a relationship with my patient on trust and if they feel my support in
order for us to communicate properly. When looking into a practice I plan to look for
good working conditions suiting my personal work style and working independently, and
security. These values go, hand
Propaganda And Its Effect On The World War II
Propaganda, though not the most effective war time strategy, allows people to come
together as one to contribute to the success of the country as a whole. However with
this idea, there is also the idea that they are not whole truths being told by governments
within countries. Propaganda is a form of a lie seen in both North Korea in the book
Escape from Camp 14, and in one of the world s darkest times, World War II; the world
allows these lies to surface due to the fact that they do no outwardly hurt another race.
Adolf Hitler used propaganda to turn people against Jews, blacks and about everyone
else that was not German and he also use it to make people want to join Nazi army.
Franklin Roosevelt or F.D.R also use the science of propaganda to turn people against
Germany, Italy and Japan. Hitler had first become aware of propaganda and its uses
before the First World War. During the war he saw the effect of British propaganda on
the soldiers of the Central Powers. Later on after the war Hitler wrote a book called
Mein Kampf (My Struggle), he devoted two whole chapters to the study and practice
of propaganda. He once said the psyche of the masses, he wrote, is not receptive to
anything that is weak. They are like a woman, whose psychic state determined less by
abstract reason than by an emotional longing for a strong force will complement her
nature. Likewise, the masses love a commander, and despise a petitioner (Hitler). After
many speeches and papers he wrote on

(1) Threat of new competition: * Strong distribution network: there are 300 active
distributors and one third of the cost of any typical feature is marketing expense. *
Large capital for initializing a business: a large capital is required for establishing a
new business in this industry whether a studio, distribution or exhibition. The high cost
of production requires company to spend a lot of money. * Strong brand names: films
from the top 10 studios produce over 90 percent of domestic box office receipt. Strong
brand names in the industry increase the new entry barrier. * Advanced technologies: the
rapidly technology development makes it difficult to competitor to enter the market
because competitor needs to acquire this technology prior to enter the market. *
Customers are loyal to existing brand: companies need to spend resources to build a
brand name. * The Experience: the learning curve is high the companies need to predict

The Impact Of International Corporations On A Nation s...
Tell me, is there some society that doesn t run on greed? What is greed? Of course,
none of us are greedy, it is only the other fellow that s greedy. The world runs on
individuals pursuing their separate interests. Milton Friedman (2002)
A common trend within developed and developing countries is foreign direct investment
(FDI) as a major source of capital. What differs is the effect it has for the nation s people.
The current economic and technological development, its government policy and a
nation s labour force all alter the potential outcomes for a nation. This report will
examine the effects of international corporations becoming involved in the discovery and
extraction of oil reservoirs in Nigeria and compare it to the results in Norway. It will
explain how the stability of the governments affect the long term outcomes. Norway is
a prospering country, its people are ranked as the second happiest in the world, and its
government is seen as trustworthy and influent. Nigeria has a turbulent past which the
discovery of oil has exasperated. These issues are recognised by the World Bank who
have responded by labelling Nigeria as a fragile state due to its risk of armed conflict,
epidemic diseases and failed governance. (World Bank, 2014) It appears that when a
country is faced with the influx of foreign investors, it is the strength of the government
that will determine who controls the power.

Conflict In Freaks And Geeks
Freaks and Geeks is a show about the conflict s and pressure s of growing up. In this
series the teens face a number of conflicts such as trying to fit in, parental control, and
peer pressure. Lots of teenagers including myself have faced some of these problems.
Everyone deals with some kind of conflict while growing up it just depends on how
you decide to deal with it and make the best of it. This allows me to tell you how I and
other teens have faced and dealt with some of the same problems that is shown on
Freaks and Geeks.
The first conflict that they were faced with in Freaks and Geeks was trying to fit in. I
use to try to do things like a certain group of people such as wear the same clothes or
shoes to try to fit in. In the show, Lindsay tried to fit in by riding around with the
Freaks on Halloween destroying people s Halloween decorations and hitting mailboxes
with a baseball bat to get them to like her instead of passing out candy with her mom.

Most teenagers don t necessarily agree with their parents or agree with what they have
to say or want them to do because when you are growing up you think you know more
than everyone but in the end you don t and want your parents to help you again. Some
teens parents may try to control every move you make to try to make you perfect like
Lindsay s parents did or they may be just trying to protect you and make you a better
person. In Freaks and Geeks we see many cases where they don t agree with their
parents because they feel like they are trying to control them too much. Nick s dad
was going to make him go to the military if he could not make it as a drummer but
Nick didn t feel like he belonged in the military and is scared to go. This is how the
show Freaks along with many other teens experience and deal with parental
Essay on The Educational Benefits of Video Games
The Educational Benefits of Video Games The repetition of the statement claiming that
video games do not help children in their educational enterprises is unfair. There have
been numerous studies conducted providing evidence that children gain structural
knowledge while engaging in video game play (Pillay 2002). Certainly, different styles
of video games may produce different results. It is important for us to understand the
different benefits from the various styles of games. Because students play a wide
variety of games, they may have a repertoire of schemas with different information
(Pillay 2002). Visual Skills A majority of the studies conducted discussed results

They compared them to student who played 10 hours of non action video game. On
all visual skills tests, action video gamers scored better than non action video gamers
(Chudler 2003). The experiments at the University of Rochester brought forth very
promising information for the support of video gaming. In the May 29 issue of
Nature, people who play action video games process visual information more quickly.
They can track 30% more objects than non game players (Roach 2003). Boosting
visual scores can improve dramatically after just 10 hours of playing action games
(Cohen 2003). Thinking and Learning Skills Video games can be used as instructional
tools as well. They have positive elements and add value; they create a micro world of
their own. The players act based on natural tendencies towards learning. Therefore,
learning occurs while playing (Rosas et al., 2003). Simulation, adventure, and role
playing games are another type of video game that produces positive results in skill
levels (Morgan 2003). Simulations games are widely used in training various areas: 1.
Colleges and institutions use them for educational purposes. 2. Industries and businesses
use computer simulations to train their employees and executives. 3. Common in military
in helping learn military strategy. 4. Almost all pilots do some flight

Pastor Karl at the Whitney Avenue Congregational Church
In this leadership study case we see the 42 year old first time pastor Karl facing a new
organizational culture at 150 year old Whitney Avenue Congregational Church
compared with his previous experience at Community Fellowship church where he
tried to initiate some changes hopping that will make a difference in the congregation.
After a couple of years teaching at a religious school, he went to seminary and
completed all his coursework for Doctorate in Ministry. Now he was for the first time
in a full time position as a pastor. Even he was a pastor for ten months at Whitney; he
was still considered a newcomer by the power holders , which were a few old

In the same time he was wondering how to approach elder people from the church and
what steps to take just to be an effective change at Whitney Avenue Congregational
Church. A few of church members had a fear that Pastor Karl will make more changes
than they would like to see changed.
One of the congregational leader Hank, during a conversation with the 40 years old
parishioner Tim, explained how important is for them to keep the church open at any
cost for older parishioners and the only thing that kept them opened was the desire and
willing to help others, to be loving and supportive. Years ago, Whitney Church was filled
with 500 worshipers each Sunday, now Karl noticed that in good Sunday 40 people
attended and most of them were elder.
Even if he found resistance to his initiatives from the elder members, and growing
pressure to increase the number of the church members, his faith in God kept him
motivated to start doing what he had in mind such as a contemporary worship style, good
childcare for young families, and an evangelical outreach to the community.

Mexican Daily Life Essay
Daily Life
There are a variety of common courtesies that Americans should observe when in Mexico.
Some of the important issues of cultural etiquette are described herein. When in Mexico
Americans should refrain from calling themselves Americans. Mexicans consider
themselves Americans too since the whole continent is called America. Another part of
Mexican culture that may be shocking to American s traveling there is the way
machismo is verbalized by male members of Mexican society. Making sexual or
derogatory remarks at women is a typical part of the culture and should not be seen as
harassment. Wearing a wedding band and mentioning children usually will stop these
types of comments. Attempting to speak ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to greet each member of a group individually. Women will pat each other
on the forearm or shoulder as an initial greeting where men use the handshake in
situations where they are greeting someone for the first time. Handshakes consist of a
gentle grip and a quick sharp shake. After men develop a relationship hugs or back
slapping called abrazo replace the handshake. Women will progress to a series of air
kisses on the cheek. Air kissing is also the appropriate greeting between a man and a
woman who know each other. The first kiss is in the air near the left cheek and the
second is in the air near the right cheek. Unmarried women receive an additional kiss
as a wish for marriage. Receiving an abrazo or air kiss is an indicator that you have
been accepted into the group. These traditional Mexican greeting are indicative of
gender characteristics. Females are supposed to act open while men are expected to act
closed. Foreigners should politely accept these greetings from Mexicans but should not
initiate a move from one greeting to the next. This is especially important for an
American man who is greeting a Mexican female. The American man should never
initiate the air kisses as it may be interpreted as sexual advance which damages the
women s honor and her partner s machismo. Women are even expected to initiate a
handshake with men. It is important to wait until invited to

Chan Yan Tak
Chan Yan tak is a Chinese chef, he is best known for being the first Chinese chef to earn
three Michelin stars. Working in Restaurants since his early teens, he earned his stars
working at the Lung King Heen restaurant which is situated in the Four Seasons Hotel in
Hong Kong after they convinced him to come out of retirement and come back to
working in the kitchen.
Chan Yan Tak began working in kitchens at the age of either 13 or 14 at the Dai Sam
Yuen restaurant. He had no intentions of becoming a chefand only took up the job
because his family was in need of the money. Because of his young age he was
forbidden to use a knife and was used for tasks such as plucking chickens and washing
vegetables. In truth his career as a chef only started in the 1970s when he worked in a
number of restaurants such as Fook Lam Moon. In 1984 he became the sous chef at the
Regent hotel Hong Kong and then advanced to executive chef just one year later, he
continued to work there for 15 years.

The Causes Of Hurricane Katrina
When I think about Hurricane Katrina, what first comes to mind is the overwhelming
ineptitude of the federal, state and local authorities and agencies charged with
planning for and dealing with the aftermath of such a disaster. On August 29, 2005,
Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast of the United States. As a result of the
hurricane force winds in excess of 140 miles per hour and the accompanying storm
surge, the levee system in New Orleans was overwhelmed and many of the levees
simply washed away. Low lying neighborhoods, such as St. Bernard Parish and the
Ninth Ward were under so much that people had to scramble to attics and rooftops for
safety. No American city in modern times had ever been ravaged by floods in such a
way. Over a year prior to Katrina, in June 2004, FEMA conducted a five day exercise
which simulated a storm ( Hurricane Pam ) in which New Orleans was completely
devastated. (FEMA 2004). The purpose of this drill, which included emergency officials
from 50 parishes, state, federal and volunteer organizations, was supposed to help
officials develop joint response plans for a catastrophic hurricane. According to Ron
Castleman, the FEMA Regional Director at the time: We made great progress this week
in our preparedness efforts, Disaster response teams developed action plans in critical
areas such as search and rescue, medical care, sheltering, temporary housing, school
restoration and debris management. These plans are essential for quick
Plan For Creating A Treatment Plan
Transaction #4 Client: Yeah, I m getting too old for this. I just want to get a little
apartment or a room and a job to keep me going. I need my own place where I can just
be alone with no one to bother me. Worker: I hear you. But, what s the most important
thing right now? What s your plan? Skill: Maintaining a focus on the goals. Reading
the client: Is this guy going to help me get a room for me to rent? I keep insisting that
that s what a need hoping that he ll offer me some help with that. Reading myself: I m
feeling more confident that we can get on with the task of creating this treatment plan.
I need to keep asking John specific questions about his plan of action or simply guide
him in the process of coming up with ideas for setting goals and reaching for them.
Evaluation: Staying on track with creating a treatment plan cannot be a rigid task. I
need to stay open to being flexible and realize that if John is not ready to come up with
specific plans for his post detox work on recovery then perhaps this is not the time to do
that. Another try: I reflect on my questions and say something like: John, what do you
suppose would be the consequences of your continued substance abuse? How willing are
you to make changes to move in another direction? New skill: Reframing Transaction #5
Client: I need to get through this detox and then, on Monday, I m supposed to go to
residential treatment. They wouldn t allow me in until I detoxed. But hey, once I get

  • 2. Economic System In America When in the course of economic virtue, the United States of America has woefully relied on the mixed economic system of Capitalism, where men are not created equal, but rather the prosperous become richer while the impoverished become poorer. For more now than ever has our nation needed a balanced economic system that does not neglect our povertystricken citizens. Our government should be here to serve our citizen s welfare and not to neglect them. For our beautiful nation s infrastructure has long since been crumbling, as many countries keep improving on their roads, drinking water, and schools; the United States still has a D+ in infrastructure as ranked by the American Society of Civil Engineers. As carbon dioxide and pollution slowly kills both the people and the environment, the United States government begins to discard many of the regulations meant to protect us, so companies can make a few bucks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rich rely on the poor, as there is only so much money to go around. You wouldn t accept a dictatorship in our government, so why would you allow them in our economy. In most of today s businesses, the CEO s enjoy sitting on fat stacks of cash, while the workers only get minimum wage and have no control over the product. Is this the country you want to reside in? One that takes away rights that protect you from greedy corporations that care nothing for their customer, but instead to fatten their wallets. Were you slowly die from the poisons coming from unregulated factories. The United State government is so used to ignoring and robbing the poor that there is not an ounce of regret when there are laws passed against them. The only way for America to succeed is to open ourselves to the idea of democratic
  • 3. Man La Mancha Rhetorical Devices The first song that I will be evaluating will be Man La Mancha. The first thing that I noticed that my section did really well was the dynamics at measure seventeen. The whole band could work on is staying in balance with other people because you could pick out certain voices in the sections. In delsonaya we really could of brought down are volume when the flute solo came in because she could be barley heard over the band. The bass voices could improve on ninety eight because when we would come up in the menacing it sounded as if we were slurring the notes and not making them prominent. the trumpet on the solo at the start was amazing and sounded perfect and was played musically. This was one of my favorite songs in are concert and I think
  • 4. The Theme of Kate Chopin’s “the Storm” Essay Kate Chopin in the Storm uses symbolism in characters to develop the theme that marriages are not perfect. Although there is a physical storm in the story, there is also a storm of emotions. Chopin is able to convey the emotions of her characters throughout the story because the storm that takes place at the very beginning of her story. As the storm approaches Calixta is home sewing, while husband Bobinot and son Bibi are out at the store. Bobinot notices the sombre clouds that were rolling with sinister intention from the west, accompanied by a sullen, threatening roar. They did not heed the crashing torrents, and the roar of the elements made her laugh as she lay in his arms (page. 396) The storm reaches its climax, as do Calixta and Alcee, and in his arms she is no longer scared, she now laughs at the roaring storm. The growl of the thunder was distant and passing away. The rain beat softly upon the shingles... (p. 396). The storm is passing, the threat is over The storm is menacing, it rolls in somber...with sinister intention. Chopin allows us to see the storm build up slowly, reaching its highpoint, and passing. The storm builds chaotically to its climax, Alcee and Calixta are together. As the storm dies out and fades away everything is quiet again in terms of the relationship. The reader can make the assumption that the marriages are unharmed, but it shows that they aren t perfect. Once the storm has passed and all is normal, Alcee leaves and Calixta s family returns. Bobinot and Bibi make themselves look presentable for Calixta, the over scrupulous wife (page 397) after going through the heavy roads and wet fields the storm left behind. Calixta seemed to have forgotten the encounter she had with Alcee moments before, and seemed to express nothing but satisfaction at their safe return. (page 397) The family sat at the table and enjoyed themselves for the remainder of the time, everything was forgotten and back to normal. Alcee the same night wrote to his wife, Clarisse, who was out of

Glorification Of Anti-Intellectualism Draw down with that Glock, b*tch don t make no/ sound/ Say somethin and get shot, b*tch face down to/ the ground/ I ain t got no respect, you might think I m dumb/ I m just 17 with a whole lotta money/ I ain t got no education, I dropped out of school. The following lyrics come from 17 year old, Baton Rouge rapper, NBA YoungBoy. As he has embarked on his journey to sudden stardom, a strong fanbase of adolescent black youth continue to support his promotion of violence, vulgar language, and most importantly his glorification of anti intellectualism. Anti intellectualism is defined as opposing or hostile to intellectuals or to an intellectual view or approach, by Meriam Webster dictionary. Within the black community the glorification of anti intellectualism is all too common and rappers such as NBA YoungBoy are not solely to responsible for this plague. When the first African slaves arrived at Jamestown in 1619 a group of people would be robbed of not only their culture, family, language, but their opportunity to have knowledge and education. Slaves were robbed of common intellectual activities and often left uneducated, illiterate, and dependent on their masters. Slave masters were able to maintain this dependency as they did not allow slaves to seek education. Due to the slaves limited intellectual ability slave masters were able to manipulate and therefore control their slaves. This same method of control can be seen in today s Black America as
  • 6. Socialist Concepts in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair Essay Socialist Concepts in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair The beginning of the book starts out at Jurgis and Ona s wedding, or more specifically, the after party. This scene establishes how these two main characters look, and how they and the rest of the characters act. Jurgis is a big man with thick black hair that goes nearly to his eyes. He is very muscular and well built. Ona is a small woman; her whole body is able to disappear in Jurgis s arms. She is soft spoken, little in appearance and in personality. Cousin Marija is a big woman; she is established in the first part of the book as a very pushy and loud person. At the after ceremony of the weeding, there is much food, drink and fun. It was not long until it was realized that she would have to work, along with the children and the old and the sick. Everyone would have to work in order to keep alive, in order to feed each other and keep warm in the winter. The difficulty of finding a job in Packingtown was hard enough. The characters also had to walk to work everyday, often in below zero temperatures. The book also describes the process of speeding up . Men would have to work at a pace unthinkable to modern society. People were literally worked to death. There were always accidents at work and dying was not unusual. The book also describes the horrible processes of the meat packing industry. Nothing is clean about the business. ...the beef had lain in vats full of chemicals, and men with great forks speared it out and dumped it into trucks, to be taken to the cooking room. When they had speared out all they could reach, they emptied the vat on the floor, and then with shovels scraped up the balance and dumped it in to the truck. This floor was filthy, yet they set Antanas with his mop slopping the pickle into a hold that connected with a sink, where it was caught and used over again forever; and if

My Profession Of Counseling Psychology As a child first it was I was going to be a police officer and no one could tell me otherwise, then it was I m going to be second grade teacher but by mid junior high going into high school there were no more changes my mind was set on being a psychologist. It was my eleventh grade that I knew which one specifically I wanted to be, a counseling psychologist and my grandma always telling me that people is my job suit. My value, strengths and interests all rely on building relationships and caring for others and their feelings. As a result, when I fulfill these needs I feel so greatly accomplished and beyond satisfied. Everyone should have values they stand for one hundred percent. My values are relationships, independence, and support. Achievement and recognition fall into my academic values meaning I like to use my best abilities and see results vastly, however, in my profession of counseling psychology you have to work towards something to make progress or see your patient put effort. With that being said, I wouldn t really need recognition I would feel I accomplished my job if we make progress and my patient don t come out as they came. Relationships and support are two big factors I will need to build a relationship with my patient on trust and if they feel my support in order for us to communicate properly. When looking into a practice I plan to look for good working conditions suiting my personal work style and working independently, and security. These values go, hand
  • 8. Propaganda And Its Effect On The World War II Propaganda, though not the most effective war time strategy, allows people to come together as one to contribute to the success of the country as a whole. However with this idea, there is also the idea that they are not whole truths being told by governments within countries. Propaganda is a form of a lie seen in both North Korea in the book Escape from Camp 14, and in one of the world s darkest times, World War II; the world allows these lies to surface due to the fact that they do no outwardly hurt another race. Adolf Hitler used propaganda to turn people against Jews, blacks and about everyone else that was not German and he also use it to make people want to join Nazi army. Franklin Roosevelt or F.D.R also use the science of propaganda to turn people against Germany, Italy and Japan. Hitler had first become aware of propaganda and its uses before the First World War. During the war he saw the effect of British propaganda on the soldiers of the Central Powers. Later on after the war Hitler wrote a book called Mein Kampf (My Struggle), he devoted two whole chapters to the study and practice of propaganda. He once said the psyche of the masses, he wrote, is not receptive to anything that is weak. They are like a woman, whose psychic state determined less by abstract reason than by an emotional longing for a strong force will complement her nature. Likewise, the masses love a commander, and despise a petitioner (Hitler). After many speeches and papers he wrote on

  • 11. The Impact Of International Corporations On A Nation s... Tell me, is there some society that doesn t run on greed? What is greed? Of course, none of us are greedy, it is only the other fellow that s greedy. The world runs on individuals pursuing their separate interests. Milton Friedman (2002) A common trend within developed and developing countries is foreign direct investment (FDI) as a major source of capital. What differs is the effect it has for the nation s people. The current economic and technological development, its government policy and a nation s labour force all alter the potential outcomes for a nation. This report will examine the effects of international corporations becoming involved in the discovery and extraction of oil reservoirs in Nigeria and compare it to the results in Norway. It will explain how the stability of the governments affect the long term outcomes. Norway is a prospering country, its people are ranked as the second happiest in the world, and its government is seen as trustworthy and influent. Nigeria has a turbulent past which the discovery of oil has exasperated. These issues are recognised by the World Bank who have responded by labelling Nigeria as a fragile state due to its risk of armed conflict, epidemic diseases and failed governance. (World Bank, 2014) It appears that when a country is faced with the influx of foreign investors, it is the strength of the government that will determine who controls the power. Stimulation of technological development and enhancing innovation amongst

In this series the teens face a number of conflicts such as trying to fit in, parental control, and peer pressure. Lots of teenagers including myself have faced some of these problems. Everyone deals with some kind of conflict while growing up it just depends on how you decide to deal with it and make the best of it. This allows me to tell you how I and other teens have faced and dealt with some of the same problems that is shown on Freaks and Geeks. The first conflict that they were faced with in Freaks and Geeks was trying to fit in. I use to try to do things like a certain group of people such as wear the same clothes or shoes to try to fit in. In the show, Lindsay tried to fit in by riding around with the Freaks on Halloween destroying people s Halloween decorations and hitting mailboxes with a baseball bat to get them to like her instead of passing out candy with her mom. Essay on The Educational Benefits of Video Games The Educational Benefits of Video Games The repetition of the statement claiming that video games do not help children in their educational enterprises is unfair. There have been numerous studies conducted providing evidence that children gain structural knowledge while engaging in video game play (Pillay 2002). Certainly, different styles of video games may produce different results. It is important for us to understand the different benefits from the various styles of games. Because students play a wide variety of games, they may have a repertoire of schemas with different information (Pillay 2002). The experiments at the University of Rochester brought forth very promising information for the support of video gaming. In the May 29 issue of Nature, people who play action video games process visual information more quickly. They can track 30% more objects than non game players (Roach 2003). Boosting visual scores can improve dramatically after just 10 hours of playing action games (Cohen 2003). Thinking and Learning Skills Video games can be used as instructional tools as well. They have positive elements and add value; they create a micro world of their own. The players act based on natural tendencies towards learning. Therefore, learning occurs while playing (Rosas et al., 2003). Simulation, adventure, and role playing games are another type of video game that produces positive results in skill levels (Morgan 2003). One of the congregational leader Hank, during a conversation with the 40 years old parishioner Tim, explained how important is for them to keep the church open at any cost for older parishioners and the only thing that kept them opened was the desire and willing to help others, to be loving and supportive. Years ago, Whitney Church was filled with 500 worshipers each Sunday, now Karl noticed that in good Sunday 40 people attended and most of them were elder. Even if he found resistance to his initiatives from the elder members, and growing pressure to increase the number of the church members, his faith in God kept him motivated to start doing what he had in mind such as a contemporary worship style, good childcare for young families, and an evangelical outreach to the community. Another part of Mexican culture that may be shocking to American s traveling there is the way machismo is verbalized by male members of Mexican society. It is important to greet each member of a group individually. Women will pat each other on the forearm or shoulder as an initial greeting where men use the handshake in situations where they are greeting someone for the first time. Handshakes consist of a gentle grip and a quick sharp shake. After men develop a relationship hugs or back slapping called abrazo replace the handshake. Women will progress to a series of air kisses on the cheek. Air kissing is also the appropriate greeting between a man and a woman who know each other. The first kiss is in the air near the left cheek and the second is in the air near the right cheek. Unmarried women receive an additional kiss as a wish for marriage. Females are supposed to act open while men are expected to act closed. Foreigners should politely accept these greetings from Mexicans but should not initiate a move from one greeting to the next. This is especially important for an American man who is greeting a Mexican female. The American man should never initiate the air kisses as it may be interpreted as sexual advance which damages the women s honor and her partner s machismo. The Causes Of Hurricane Katrina When I think about Hurricane Katrina, what first comes to mind is the overwhelming ineptitude of the federal, state and local authorities and agencies charged with planning for and dealing with the aftermath of such a disaster. As a result of the hurricane force winds in excess of 140 miles per hour and the accompanying storm surge, the levee system in New Orleans was overwhelmed and many of the levees simply washed away. Low lying neighborhoods, such as St. Bernard Parish and the Ninth Ward were under so much that people had to scramble to attics and rooftops for safety. No American city in modern times had ever been ravaged by floods in such a way. Over a year prior to Katrina, in June 2004, FEMA conducted a five day exercise which simulated a storm ( Hurricane Pam ) in which New Orleans was completely devastated. (FEMA 2004). Reading myself: I m feeling more confident that we can get on with the task of creating this treatment plan. I need to keep asking John specific questions about his plan of action or simply guide him in the process of coming up with ideas for setting goals and reaching for them. Evaluation: Staying on track with creating a treatment plan cannot be a rigid task. I need to stay open to being flexible and realize that if John is not ready to come up with specific plans for his post detox work on recovery then perhaps this is not the time to do that. Another try: I reflect on my questions and say something like: John, what do you suppose would be the consequences of your continued substance abuse? How willing are you to make changes to move in another direction? New skill: Reframing Transaction #5 Client: I need to get through this detox and then, on Monday, I m supposed to go to residential treatment. They wouldn t allow me in until I detoxed. But hey, once I get
