The ESI provides sickness, maternity, disablement and medical benefits for employees of factories and establishments with 10 or more employees. It is administered by the Employees State Insurance Corporation, the highest policy making body for the ESI Act. The corporation is comprised of members from central and state governments, employees, employers, parliament and medical professionals. The ESI scheme is funded through contributions of 1.75% of wages from employees and 4.75% from employers.
