The Classical Realism And Constructivist Theory
Terrorism has many forms. Though society knows many of its vicious faces, little does the world
acknowledge that these terror spurred events are often encouraged and sponsored through the
politics of well known nations. I will be applying both the classical realism and constructivist theory
to highlight ways in which the constructivist perspective better addresses state sponsored terrorisms
effect on global relations.
Classical realism focuses on the interactions of state players. There are three main components to
the classical realist perspective; state centrism, rationality, and power.
State sponsored terrorism is controlled by state actors to achieve the goal of political gain. In such
instances, countries which perceive themselves as the victims (Demir 47) of some global injustice
support acts of violence to motivate change by fear. Terrorism itself poses an issue for the realist
paradigm as its main actors are non state. Though it is the response and decisions of state players
that dictate the outcome on interactions between nations, non state actors participate in the actual
acts of terror. Non state actors (NSA) are organizations, or individuals, that hold political influence,
but have no standing as a country. Terrorist groups are a subset of NSA s who use violence and
scare tactics against non combatant targets to bring about political manipulation. Even though the
non state actor carries out the attack, the state centric approach emphasizes the dominant

Managing Remote Sales Teams Offer Unique Challenges
Awesome sales teams aren t just found in office cubicles.
A sales member might attend a CEO meeting in California, play a round of golf with an important
client in Georgia, or cold call prospective leads from an apartment in Barcelona.
Technology makes remote work more accessible. The office now encompasses different countries
and time zones.
A Stanford University research study found that employees are 13 percent more productive when
working remotely. However, managing a remote salesteam isn t easy.
People work at their own pace, creating disconnection among team members. When problems
occur, it s not as simple as getting up from your desk and walking down the hall to get clarification
face to face.
Managing remote sales teams offer unique challenges, but you can overcome them. Let s explore
four ways to lead your remote team to more closed deals.
1. Set Clear Expectations
When setting expectations, sales employees are encouraged to meet higher performance levels.
A recent Gallup poll of German workers found that when a manager sets clear priorities for their
employees about 38 percent of workers feel engaged and will strive to increase their work
performance.
Establish clear expectations for your team. It provides everyone a set standard to maintain.
The benchmark should include sales objectives, specific online procedures when working on leads,
and tips for managing time more efficiently.
Sales managers must be willing to hop on a Skype call with their team.

Racial Discrimination And Discrimination
In the first place what is discrimination is different type of categories within people like race, age,
gender, and religion. In article by Mother Jones talk about a player name Michael Sam but Sam
wanted to let people know about his life and not tell no one about his sexual orientation wanted.
So Michael Sam announced that he was gay to his college football team members they all know
that he was gay and did not have any issue about it. Many football players say that he was a true
all American defensive end he played evert one else. The sports like every other guys do. There
are some state laws that discriminate against gay employees and some of the NFL teams are sort
within the state or local law prohibiting. Currently in the league there are 13 NFL teams are
under local law, 12 NFL teams that have nondiscrimination laws, and 7 other teams are no state
or local law in the NFL. Sam was going to play for the St. Louis Rams which means it was a local
law and would be under and thus subjected to discriminatory laws based on sexual orientation. He
played for the NFL and did well yet he was cut from the team and no reason was given from his cut
as of now Michael Sam play in the Canadian football league (CFL) he is play in the CFL that is
Canadian football. Michael Sam had a goal was to play for the NFL and he achieve the goal to
play. He never wanted his sexuality to cause so much news. To anyone out there especially young
people feeling like they don t fit in and will

Communicating With No Sound
Communicating with No Sound Starring at the mirror, admiring my soft and radiant face, and
knowing that I m not going to be like this in 15 to 20 years. Time changes everything, but we
cannot stop time we must accept life and the circle of life. As we are young one day our eye sight
are not going to be the same , nor our hearing , not even our taste or senseof smell , everything
changes.my question is are there ways to communicate with those at a certain age? I answer
myself of course there is and especially when talk to your healthcare provider. Everything changes
with time maybe we might be lucky and not have any hearing impairments, but we can t tell the
future. We might not understand , what an elderly patient with impairing hearing loss goes to
everyday but for us to have such a patient we much have patience and speak in a clear voice .There
are over Twenty million people in the united states that have auditory impairment in other terms
having trouble hearing . Many women, children men experience hearing loss, but the largest groups
that consist are individuals over the age of 65. first thing ,when communicating with the patient
,ask them what you can do to help them be more comfortable so they can understand you .Also
change position talk to them face to face look directly at them, this gives them a clear view of your
lips when your speaking at them. Touch the sense of touch; you can give them a light touch
shoulder to grab their attention when you speak to them.

Developing Child
Imagine yourself going out for the night at a local restaurant. Some of the first things you may
notice when you walk in is the overwhelming aroma of the food being served, the light chatter
from everyone in the place, or maybe the dГ©cor. But there s something else you notice, and it
doesn t seem right. Instead of coloring pages and crayons at each table with children, there s a
tablet. Each childis intensely involved with the tiny, glowing screens that show characters running
around at the commands of the childs every wish. Each one looks like a zombie, completely
brainwashed and only interested in what their screens are playing rather than their parents attempts
to make conversation. You glance to the side as you see a mom trying to take... Show more content

Instead of using a videogame system or tablet to keep them entertained, they were exercising not
only their bodies, but also their imaginations. Cris Rowan, author for The Huffington Post, stated in
her article The Impact of Technologyon the Developing Child that A 2010 Kaiser Foundation
study showed that elementary aged children use on average 7.5 hours per day of entertainment
technology, 75 percent of these children have TV s in their bedrooms, and 50 percent of North
American homes have the TV on all day. Today s generation of kids are glued to these devices
and heavily rely on them to keep them entertained. Unfortunately, parents have not helped this
issue become any better: instead, they are quick to hand their toddler a phone or tablet in order
to keep them occupied and out of their ways. It s no surprise either that children are this way
considering the recent boom in technological developments and further societal integrations. But
is the introduction of technology of any kind at a young age as beneficial as it is put out to be?
Today s generation of kids, referred to as glow kids , is suffering from the overuse of technology
in their daily lives. Children s emotional, social, and physical developments are being majorly
hindered due to the increased integration of technology within their daily lives that is distributed by

Article Reflection Essay
When I first became concerned with what was going on in the world, I always turned to the
News Channel or a documentary to update me on that day s current event. I never opened a
newspaper, magazine, book etc. because I felt it was less time consuming, more intriguing and
simpler to understand if I listened to the story being spoken rather than reading it. Due to this
class and our weekly article assignments, I realized it is much more stimulating to open up a
newspaper or print out an article to read rather than watch a television screen to inform me on
what is going on in the world. Not only did this class help me appreciate reading more, but it also
taught me the real meaning behind key terms and cases that can help me make better use of the
article I am reading rather than trying to understand what the story is. I truly believe these
article assignments caused a major positive impact on my reading abilities, understanding and
use of the context and all around better knowledge on what is going on regarding current events.
Since I was a child, I was never big on reading because my mind would wander off to different
places and I would lose track of my reading. When Professor Varner announced to the class about
the weekly article assignments it really did not sound all that captivating to me. I did not look
forward to these assignments because I knew I had to actually read an article and understand the
issue, even though this was extremely easy going and not time consuming

Hurricane Ike
Hurricanes are one of the most disastrous weather events that can occur here on earth. The results
can be very powerful and impact everyone who encounters one but it is much harder when the
event happens to you. On September 20, 2008, Hurricane Ike passed through Galveston and ripped
one of the most important places to me. The Hurricane started to form over the Atlantic a week
before it stuck Galveston. The National Hurricane Service issued a watch over a little stormout far
in the ocean that had the potential of a hurricane. It only took two days after the watch was
announced for the storm to turn into a category 4 hurricane. The fist appearance of the storm came
about an enormous increase of water levels in the Arctic ocean giving a major

Safavid Pottery Art
The Safavid Empire was the first to take under control the whole Persia since the Sasanian
Empire. From 1501 to 1736, art greatly flourished under this Shiite Dynasty led by significant
patrons such as Shah Tahmasp and Shah Abbas. Persian pottery art was one of these art forms that
rapidly developed during this period. Safavid potteries had origins in Persian tradition and was
influenced by Ottoman, European and Chinese styles. Since early 9th century, Chinese porcelains
and celadon wares have been traded to the Middle East. Because of the hardness, whiteness and
translucency of porcelain and metal like color of celadon, these Chinese products have always been
valued much more than local ones. Since Yuan Dynasty (13th 14th century), new style... Show more

It is made of stonepaste covered with copper green glaze. The only decorations are patterns
carved around the body of the plate instead of being painted. This piece closely resembles
Chinese celadon wares from Longquan. The glaze was made from copper instead of iron that
was normally used for celadon wares. Differed from traditional colorful Persian art, this plate
only has one color. Its monochrome green color, the lack of decoration and short foot
demonstrate its imitation of celadon wares. Safavid craftsmen did not stop at purely borrowing
Chinese designs, but incorporated local traditions in different ways. The blue and white
porcelain like potteries with Persian shapes are one significant example. The Tulip Vase (Figure
3) has a baluster form body with three short nozzles. This stonepaste piece was painted in blue
under transparent glaze, thus only has two basic colors: blue and white. On the wide flat rims
of each nozzle, there are painted flower petals surrounding the center opening. On the neck of
the vase, there are repeating decorative motifs including perhaps birds and clouds at the top,
along with vertical flowers and leaves motifs closer to the body. The paintings on the top part of
the body appear to have three identical birds and clouds in compartmentalized sections around
the vase. Below the birds, there are bamboos, rocks, flowers and a peacock. At the lowest part,
there are repeating decorations in geometric forms and vine motifs. The iconographies of swirly
clouds, bamboos and rocks are very similar to common Chinese ones. The swirly clouds means
fortune and heaven, while the bamboos represents longevity, resilience, flexibility, and strength.
Judging from the blue and white color. Meanwhile, the birds, peacocks and patterns on the lower
part of body could be seen in both Chinese and Islamic artworks. The most distinct part is the
shape of this vase. It is often

Pros And Cons Of Stopping Child Labour
Child Labour as defined by the International Labour Organisation, work that deprives children of
their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental
development. This includes interference with their schooling. Child Labour in extreme forms
also involves children being separated from their families, exposed to serious hazards and despises
or left to fend for themselves on the streets of large cities at an early age. (ILO, n.d.). In Cote d
Ivoire, a major child labour form is agriculture where children as young as five work in Cocoa
farms for cocoa industries, which have been the major revenue of 60% of export for Cote d Ivoire.

Examples of actions that could be taken include funding for schools, monitoring of cocoa
plantations, spreading awareness of the cruelty of child labour to households.
However, there are many pros and cons to consider of the implications if child labour were to be
stopped, from the different perspectives of the different stakeholders involved.
The pros will be first discussed. Stopping child labour in Cote d Ivoire would definitely help the
children to be free from physical and mental scars. Child labour, according to various research,
will leave physical and especially psychological scars on the children involved. These scars are
caused by abusive actions by plantation owners, especially those who require the children to
complete an exaggerated amount of work before they get to rest or eat their meals. (Hawksley,
2011).Even if they eventually get out of this cycle and be free from child labour when they grow
up, the scars take a long time, or may never heal. This deprives them of their whole life s success.
Thus, putting an end to child labour will save many lives by allowing these children to experience
childhood and achieve success in various areas of their

My Love With Reading Analysis
The first time I ever fell in love with reading was when I was 10 years old. I feel like that maybe
a little late in the game, but my parents never really read to my sister and me while we were
growing up. I never truly had that, wow moment with a book just yet. My father was in the
Army and was deployed a lot and my mom worked or tried to stay busy so she would not miss
him. Reading wasn t on the top of their to do list and at the time, it wasn t on the top of mine.
We were busy exploring new cultures and new places that other people could only dream of. I
had been to France, Italy, Czech, and many other European countries before I was old enough to
retain where I was and what I was experiencing. Oh, but that faithful day in my 5th grade class
when reading evaluations came through, I had scored an 8th grade reading level. I was so
excited when I showed my parents the evaluation, not because I loved to read and was having
one of those, look what reading has given me moments. I just felt smart. We went to the library
the next day in school to find books that were in our reading levels. I was a little intimidated at
first, the books for 8th graders were superior to what I was used to reading. I was going to
Soldier on as my father said and check out one of those huge and almost frightening looking
books. I mean just because I could read at an 8th grade level didn t mean I had to, right? Yes, I
had to, I had to see what was out there for me in the terms of literature. I

Analysis Road Warrior
Analyzing the Road Warrior
The Road Warrior sequence when Max first arrives to Tire City is full of action, sound effects,
music, camera shots, wardrobe symbolisms, and survival instincts. The Road Warrior (George
Miller, 1981). I will be writing about the time that Max rescued a victim (Nathen) and returned
him back to his tire people located deep within the deserts. The scene will continue all the way up
to when the refinery people come to make a deal with the tire peoples. The movie is set in a time
where a lack of resources is desperately needed. The viewer could notice that people in this
apocalyptic environment need resources because of everyone desperately needing fuel. There is
also a lot of scraps that are being used to build towns, clothes, weapons, and cars. The people of
this apocalyptic world are trying to adapt to this environment using up any resource they can.
Furthermore, I get a sense that the world might have gone bad due to rioting, nuclear warfare, or
global warming because of the town being all the way in the dessert and the deprives of resources.
These are extremely relatable to the problems occurring in today s time. In conclusion, the
environment is extremely harsh and the humane instinct kicks in when people have the will to live
which was shown within this scene.
Max had just rescued one of the tire people who was left to die by the refinery peoples. The victim
(Nathan) decided to make a deal to return him back to his people and Max will get fuel

The Beautiful Painting by Edward Hopper, House by the...
I. Description The painting, House by the Railroad, by Edward Hopper was completed in 1925.
The house he painted was in the style of a Victorian house. The house was built next to railroad
tracks. He painted House by the Railroad with oil based paint on a canvas. The artwork is a
twenty four by twenty nine inches in a frame. When I look at this painting, the first thing I think
of is where is it located? It looks like it is in the middle of nowhere but then again it looks like it
is in a town because of the railroad tracks. The house is built next to the railroad tracks but there
are no trees. The house contains several windows which I think would be neat. In this painting,
he uses vertical and horizontal lines. He used vertical lines for the columns of the house and
parts of the house. He also uses horizontal lines for parts of the house and the railroad tracks.
Many of the lines Edward Hopper painted were medium size. The painting is painted with
several figures lined up. If you look at the front of the house, you can tell that it is square on top
of another square. The one on the bottom left is also a square but it is bigger. The picture and
the lines are very soft. The lines in the picture never seem to overlap each other. The way the sun
is in the picture makes it look absolutely beautiful. The sun could be either rising or setting by the
look of the artwork. House by the Railroad was painted in the United States. Edward Hopper
painted this picture after he came back

The Immigration Crisis Of The United States
The immigration crisis
Akash Patel
Economics
3rd Period
One of the biggest crises the United States fracases is illegal immigrant. Even though we know
about the problem we don t do anything that is effective. Because of illegal immigrant people born
and raised in America are losing jobs.
The current immigration crisis in the US is years of mishandling and gone bad. Many of the
current immigrants here were originally here. This mentality has led to a huge increase in
numbers of illegal immigrants. For example, it is believed that the current number of illegal
immigrants is around 10 to 20 million if not more. Another problem is that the Obama
administration has dropped the number of cases of deportation. Why isn t Obama dropping the
deportation cased. This means tons of money is spent on border security, but the immigrants who
make it through are likely to stay here and use up resources such as money, in turn increasing the
national deficit more than needs to be done. Another problem is when it comes to family.
Pregnant women come to the US and have children. This leads their kids to be legal citizens of
the United States. In 2010 about 4 million United States born children had one parent who was
here illegally. By now there are probably more than 5 million.
Many US citizens either frown upon agricultural work or see it as boring Mexican society,
however, provides Mexicans with an agricultural work ethic and many would

There Are Good Men And Great Men Essay
There are good men and great men. When it comes to choosing leaders, it often seems that the
will of the people often will back the man they perceive to not just be good, but great. Great in
what though? Whether the people have a choice of their leader or are forced into living under the
command of their leader, people will more times than not, more willingly summit themselves to the
rule of a great man rather than a man who is simply good or on the other end a tyrant. Cyrus the
Great, as portrayed by historian Xenophon in The Education of Cyrus shows perhaps one of the
greatest leaders of the ancient world, especially in the region of the modern day Middle East.
Xenophon describes to his reader the renowned and extremely loved character of Cyrus as both
a conqueror and as an emperor. In seeing Cyrus as a military ruler and as a ruler over a vast
nation, Cyrus appears to be the perfect man for modern day, Republican politics. Through the
dissection of the character of Cyrus, laid out by Xenophon, both as a conquer and as an
emperor, it becomes evident that Cyrus, if alive today, would prove to be the perfect leader of
the people of the free world. As president, there are two major roles that encompass all other roles
that the person who takes the position must be able to balance: commander in chief to the armed
forces and leader of the people of the nation. These roles of the president, parallel with the roles
that Cyrus played as both conquer and emperor. In both these

Gun Control And The Second Amendment
Samuel Wurzelbacher, AKA Joe the Plumber, watched Richard Martinez mourn over the death of
his only son who was shot in the Isla Vista rampage. He responded to Richard Martinez with an
open letter on a website, Barbwire.com, saying : I am sorry you lost your child. I myself have a
son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through right
now. But: as harsh as this sounds your dead kids don t trump my Constitutional rights. This is the
type of thing that people find so terrible about the Second Amendment; because pro gunzealots use
the Second Amendment to protect their immoral actions, but this is their twisted and corrupted
interpretation on the meaning and intent of the Amendment because this is in no way the original
premise of the Second Amendment. The right to bear arms laid out in the Second Amendment is
just because guns are weapons for self defense. Precautions are taken on gun control, such as
keeping a permanent record of all gun sales, requiring a license and certain mental certifications,
and only allowing certain guns to be distributed to the public. Although some may argue that they
can also be used to kill the innocent, the removal of guns from the possession of certified citizens
will not stop crime, murder, or the death of innocents because guns are not the only weapons
capable of these deaths.
First of all, the right to bear arms is just because guns are weapons of self defense, and can be used

Summary Of Paul Revere
This is the tale of some of the greatest heroes of the American Revolution. The first hero is Paul
Revere. On April 19, 1775, he heard the news of what the British had planned. General Gage of
the British army was going to send troops to Lexington to capture Sam Adams and John
Hancock. Paul Revere knew he had to do something. He got on his horse and went on a midnight
ride threw the colonies. He yelled The British Regulars are coming! During his whole ride and
told people One if by land, two if by sea! Meaning that they should look at the lighthouse to see
how many lanterns are lit up. On the way to Lexington to save Sam Adams and John Hancock
he was stopped by British soldiers on horses. They asked him where he was going and he told
them he was going to warn the people of the regulars that were coming. They thought that their
army was too powerful and that it didn t matter if the colonists knew that they were coming. So,
they let him go. When he got to Lexington the Regulars weren t there yet. He found John
Hancock and Sam Adams and knocked on their door. Someone came down and asked what he
was doing there. He told them to pack their bags and get out of Lexington. After that he rode on.
He soon realized that he should go back and check on them so he doubled back and knocked on the
door. They answered and hadn t done anything. He stayed there until they left. They rode on and

Wedding Tips For A Wedding
Getting engaged is a wonderful time in every woman s life; however the excitement can quickly
be overpowered by stress. In the United States the average cost of a wedding is $26,000!
Personally, when I learned how expensive weddings are, I immediately began brainstorming on
how I could shrink this number. One big way to save some money on your big day is to plan your
weddingyourself rather than spending thousands of dollars on a professional wedding planner.
This essay is for brides everywhere who wish to successfully plan their wedding on their own.
First things first, you need to decide on a month which you desire to have your wedding. This is
an important part of planning your wedding because you need to plan things months in advance
and setting a general date will help you do so. About nine months before the wedding you should
begin to look at wedding invitation designs and browse through wedding dress photos. Also, if
you plan on having an engagement party send out these invitations and decide on dГ©cor and
snacks for the party. Engagement parties are not generally for gift giving; however, if you do
wish to receive gifts on this day, it is important that you begin a wedding registry so guests can
buy you what you would like. After your engagement party you should begin your wedding guest
list and decide who will be in your wedding party. Last, but definitely not least, reserve your
wedding venue! It is important to reserve your wedding venue as soon as possible, so

Margot Heinemann s Characteristics In King Lear
William Shakespeare s King Lear is the tragic story of a king s descent from power as the life that
he had once had crumbles before him. It is a story that relies heavily on the relationships between
its characters and how they change. Lear is slowly driven insane throughout the course of the play
as he unintentionally rids himself of the positive relationships while relying upon negative ones.
However, it is Margot Heinemann s argument that the play not only relies on interpersonal drama,
but also the politics of Englandin her essay, Demystifying the Mystery of the State : King Learand
the World Upside Down . In her essay, Heinemann provides an in depth analysis of how the politics

The reader is surprised to see Edgar reaching this position because he had fallen so far. He was

headed toward a dictator like or tyrannical style of government. Some ignorant people living in
first world countries might say that he was wrong, but those smart enough know just how right he
was. These terrifying places are very much real in the world today. The people living in these
cruel environments are often times isolated by their leaders and told they are living in the best
country in the world, and that their reason of isolation is to keep the rest of the world out. The
harsh reality is that these people are actually being starved, neglected,... Show more content on

Maybe it has to do with their early life, for example, Niyazov being orphaned starting from a very
young age after the death of most of his mother and father ( Obituary: Saparmurat Niyazov ).
Perhaps though, it has nothing to do with our upbringing, and maybe it only our internal hunger
for power is to blame. Whichever way that created a person as monstrous as Niyazov, definitely
created something huge. During Niyazov s rule he controlled everything he possibly could.
Controlling the minds of his people was his specialty. Forcing them to have the will to change
their beliefs, their routines, their individuality, was one of the reasons Niyazov succeeded in

Aging And Reaction Time
Driving is a huge issue for older drivers and can be the cause of most conflicts. As we age, we
tend to lose many of our abilities and reaction time is one of them. This brings me to my first main
point, reaction time. Dictionary.com states that reaction time is the amount of time it takes to
respond to a stimulus, how you fast you can react. Reaction time is important because it s being
able respond quickly and appropriately to situations, but as we older, that tends to decrease.
According to psychcentral.com, as we age, the brainfibers that connect to both hemispheres of the
brain begin to break down making our response time slower. Now let s look at this in a driving
sense. A slower time can cause problems if other drivers stop suddenly,

Fast Food Public Relation Blunders
Introduction
Fast Food can be defined as quickly made food that is sold in restaurants as a quick meal or to be
taken out. The first fast food restaurants came around the 1920 s and have since then, blown up
to be its own part of American Culture. Chances are, if you live in the United States there is a
fast food restaurant within a mile of your house. As the century progressed these fast food
restaurants expanded to countless countries across the world becoming a big part of peoples
everyday lives. Since there are countless fast food franchises selling generally the same products,
the market is extremely competitive. Fast Food franchises participate in aggressive marketing
and are always trying to stay in the good graces of the public eye. One slip up and chances are
they are going to lose a vast amount of business. As much as they try though there is no possible
way they would be able to anticipate some of the public relations blunders that occur especially in
an age where there are eyes everywhere in the form of cameras and social media. One of the
biggest public relations disasters in recent memory involved the fast food pizza delivery franchise
Domino s and another more recently involving Starbucks.

Obama And Castro Relationship Analysis
A New Relationship in the Works After Obama and Castro Meet in Cuba
On March 21, 2016, President Barack Obama delivered a joint press conference with Cuban
President Raul Castro at the Revolution Palace in Havana. Obama is the first United States
president to visit Cuba in nearly a century. Having it been the first official contact between their two
governments in an extraordinarily long time, the two engaged in awkwardly blunt exchanges
throughout the press conference. Both mentioned that they were committed to continuing on a path
to normalizing relations. Although this was mentioned, there was an underlying hostility between
the two as they criticized each other s countries throughout the press conference.
A reporter asked Castro about the dissidents his government has arrested and he replied by saying,
Give me a list of the political prisoners and I will release them immediately. Just mention the list.
What political prisoners? There was an uproar of human rights groups after this comment; however,
Castro tried to turn the human rights criticism to the United States. He stated that ... Show more

Introduction
Currently, most of the world s energy is derived from fossil fuels (World Energy Resources 2013
Survey). Fossil fuels are a limited resource and might not be able to meet the future energy
requirements of the world for too long (Shafiee and Topal 2009). Apart from being non renewable,
these are also significant contributors of greenhouse gases to the environment leading to air, water
and land pollution (Marland and Rotty 1984). Due to the nature of these resources there is an
urgent need to conserve these resources. It is also important to explore alternative energy sources for
the future. To this end, multiple solutions have been proposed. One of the most ... Show more

It can be anywhere in between 3 years to 30 years or even more depending on a multitude of factors.
Energy pay back time (EPBT):
The Energy Pay Back Time is defined by EPBT = Einput/Esaved, where Einput is the energy input
during the module life cycle (which includes the energy required for manufacturing, installation,
energy use during operation, and energy needed for decommissioning) and Esaved the annual
energy savings due to electricity generated by the PV module. EPBT depends on a number of
factors: cell technology, type of encapsulation, frame and array support, module size efficiency, PV
system application type (autonomous or grid connected) and, finally, PV system performance as
determined by irradiation and the performance ratio. EPBT is also affected by factors that do not
directly relate to the characteristics of the PV power system itself: conversion efficiency of the
electricity supply system and energy requirements of materials like glass, aluminum etc. (Alsema
2000)
In order to determine the EPBT of a photovoltaic system, it is very important to determine the total
energy that is required to manufacture, install, transport and dispose the system as well as energy
required for any other purpose during the life cycle of the system.
A typical PV system consists of different components. The components of a PV system can be
classified into two categories:
1.The Panel: This consists of the panel
2.Balance of system (BOS):

The Destructive Power of Pain Essay
The Destructive Power of Pain
There are two types of pain that we all experience, physical and emotional (or mental). Physical
pain is a signal of the nerves; therefore it is something that is tangible, something that we can prove
is there and something that we can feel. Emotional pain is hurt on the inside of one s soul. It
cannot be expressed; it is only a feeling in the soul. According to the Christian view, pain makes
someone a better person. However, some people disagree with this because they believe that pain
destroys a human being s self worth.
Physical pain is a signal given by nerves that an organism is in a potentially hurtful environment.
This is the type of pain that hospital in patients experience, and it often ... Show more content on

Jim felt that no one could do anything to comfort him, and that this severe pain would continue
for the rest of his life. He became very depressed and he no longer wanted to go on living life,
and never thought about the pain that he was causing his family or how his death would effect
them. The pain totally changed this once happy go lucky man into a hard, depressed, and
uncaring person. He was unable to walk, which made him unable to support himself and his
family. Because of one small accident, Jim Jones life was changed forever, and he will live with
this horrid pain until death. Although physical pain is tangible and can really be felt and
explained to others, the results of being in physical pain for long periods of time also tends to
cause a person to suffer from emotional pain.
Emotional pain can, in some cases, be more destructive than physical pain. A doctor cannot heal
emotional pain; it is something that a person must let heal over time with the help of God and
their friends and family. Emotional pain is an aching in one s heart or soul that can t be cured
by conventional medicine, but rather a change of his behavior and self worth. It comes about in
many ways, whether from a lost job or family member, a feeling of uselessness that one feels he
gives to society, or sheer depression. Take Billy Bob for example. When he lost his job as a gas
attendant for the local Chevron,

Our first meeting with Estella takes place in chapter eight. During this chapter, Dickens uses
Estella to exemplify class differences and the contrast between her and Pip . During their first

phrases show that Estella is psychologically harming Pip by breaking his heart, (the effects of
this can be seen when Pip starts harming himself later when out of sight.) Also, Estella
comments on Pip s phraseology as he calls knaves jacks . This also hurts Pip as he believes
Estella will never be with him due to him being a commoner which deeply upsets Pip as Estella is

Color Yellow Autobiography
One special memory that shaped my life was loving the color yellow. This may seem peculiar
for a little girl to prefer yellow instead of pink though my story will soon become clear. Topaz is
the stone that coincides with my birth month, I learned of this when I was about four years old.
Children occasionally cling to items or ideas, claiming them as their own, I chose yellow.
The movie Mary Poppins, a popular movie in the 60 s and 70 s, helped to reinforce the popularity
of the color yellow when my brother and I were sick. Cough medicine tasted terrible in the early
70 s, worse than in the present, therefore my mother concocted a solution to encourage us to take
the medicine. While singing the song With a Spoonful of Sugar we were to wish ... Show more

The Aeneid by Virgil
Johan Sunesson
The Aeneid, written around 20 BC is widely considered to be virgil s greatest work. The Aeneid
is a epic poem, following the adventures of the great Aeneas, as well as the central role he played
in the founding of the Roman State. The character of Aeneas had been a known legend long before
the Aeneid was composed, having been a character in the Iliad. Virgiltook the myth of Aeneas and
tied him together with the founding of the Roman State.

Aeneas father comes to him in a vision and commands him to travel to the underworld, wherein he
receives yet another vision, this one anticipating the future of Aeneas and his people Carthage, and
that of the Roman state itself.
Our hero returns from the world of the dead, and yet again looks to his destiny and sets sail to Italy.
They arrive in the land of the Latins, Latium. Once again Aeneas finds himself with womanly
problems. He is courting the princess Lavinia, daughter of the king Latinus. Latinus does not
approve, and matters escalate into hostilities, and Aeneas finds himself looking for allies in an
upcoming war against the Latins.
He finds them in enemies of the Latins. Notably the Tuscans and the Arcadians agree to march with
the Trojan forces.
Battle ensues, with the Trojans, Tuscans and Arcadians finding the most victories across the land.
In a futile attempt to save the Latin people, Mezentius, a latin warrior, offers to face Aeneas in
single combat. He is beaten by Aeneas, but the Latins dishonor the agreement and keep on fighting
the Trojans.

The Discovery Of A New Science
The Discovery of a New Science
A Brief History
Physiology has piqued human curiosity for thousands of years. In the early centuries, examination
and dissection of the human body was a taboo practice and consequently became mired due to
ethical or religious concerns. Scientist had no choice but to undertake inconceivable acts, such as
grave robbery in the name of learning and educating. They carried out dissections in secrecy.
Human physical and mental health practices have greatly benefitted because of the discoveries
made by these scientists acts, once considered immoral.
The history of physiological psychology spans throughout centuries. Its origins are traceable back
to times before Christ. Several instances set the framework, which facilitated the development and
growth of physiology as one of the numerous subdivisions of psychology. There are three
important periods and several people that established this field. Contributors include Avicenna (980
1037B.C.), Rene Descartes during the renaissance and several key contributors during the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The breakthroughs in these periods developed a new science
and led the way to the creation of other related subdivisions of psychology. Physiological
psychology is one among several subdivisions of biological psychology. This branch of psychology
is concerned with the response of normal and pathological processes of the central nervous system
(CNS). Physiological psychology mainly

Life Of Pi Character Analysis
Is Life of Pi simply a story about a boy and a tiger? Life of Pi is an award winning adventure
novel by Yann Martel, published in 2001. The first part is set in a small town in India. The
protagonist, Piscine Molitor Patel, and his family own a zoo in Pondicherry, India, but want to
move, because the father, Santosh Patel, doesn t agree with the politics there. The Patel family sets
sail for Canada, but their ship sinks in a great storm. Piis stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, hyena,
orangutan, and a zebra. After the zebra, hyena, and orangutan die, Pi has to survive at sea with a
450 pound pound Bengal tiger. In Life of Pi, most of the characters names are charactonyms. A
charactonym is a name, especially for a fictional character, that suggests a distinctive trait of the
character. The names have a second hidden meaning; a signifier and a signified. These hidden
meanings can serve foreshadowing, and also offer readers subtle clues about the characters
personality. A charactonym is a literary term, and in Life of Pi, it is used to tell us background
about the characters, and gives us a second meaning from what is written down.
Pi s given name, Piscine Molitor Patel, does not merely commemorate a swimming pool; it is also
foreshadowing. Piscine Molitor Patel was named so by his family s friend, Mamaji. Mamaji is a
champion swimmer, and whenever he travels, he swims in a pool in the area as a way to remember
the place. Piscine Molitor is a pool in France, and it is Mamaji s favorite pool. In French, piscine
means pool, and a pool is a controlled body of water. In the novel, Pi spends 227 as a castaway in a
large body of water that is rough and not controlled. Yann Martelbrilliantly made the connection
between Pi s name and his fate. The name Piscine is a hint that water will be an important part of
Pi s story later on. In school, Pi is relentlessly teased because his name, Piscine, sounds like
pissing. Pi eventually gets so sick of the name calling, that he changes his name to Pi Patel. Pi is a
mathematical constant, and is usually used to help find the circumference of a circle. Being an
irrational number, pi cannot be expressed as an exact fraction or ratio. It is intriguing that pi, an

Pros And Cons Of School And Prison
Rooted in the strict controlling environment created by an old and aging public school system the
school to prison pipeline is a path many students in the United States will face. School and prison
are so similar students who go through the system will stay in the system. From dress codes to
hours, what is and isn t allowed schools and prisons are so similar it makes sense that there is a
pathway connecting them. Both impede on the liberty promised by the government and create a
circle of manipulation and control. The United Statespublic school system impedes on the liberty
promised to the citizens of the United States of America and has been since the beginning. The
public school system started as a way to remove children from the streets during the day and to
educate them. The reason for the young to be educated was only so they would be usable for the
workforce when they were older. Later the bells and switching of classes were introduced. The
bells are similar to the ones that represent the bells in a factory. Switching of classes, the assembly
line. As time passes more and more restrictions were placed on the students attending schools.
Rules were made and the freedom of the students was imposed on for insurance and money
purposes. Adults control everything the students do. This control prohibits the fulfillment of Life,
Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Start with Life. Let s say this is life as in biological terms.

Marvin Miller mass mailed ?adult material? in brochures as an advertisement strategy (Chicago

Chief Justice Burger wrote and delivered the opinion of the court. The argument the Supreme Court

behalf of the majority that ?We hold that obscenity is not within the area of constitutionally

Justice Douglas argued that because the court changes their mind frequently concerning the
standard to which obscene materials are held to, that Miller should not be punished for the

one hand, and an economic recession, on the other. Furthermore, Massey was particularly hit hard:

in a concentration camp and makes things feel more pleasant and relaxing which does not help
support the fact that this is Auschwitz. Colors should be dark gloomy colors such as a dark gray
or a black or none at all which he used in the newer version. The use of just silent sky not only
makes it feel darker, but makes it feel abrupt and more powerful so in this case, less is more. The
use of dreams to ash is much more effective than the original dreams to dust . Dust is just
nothing, dust means gone completely and there is no turning back and you re now just waiting
to be gone. This is dark but there has to be some hope left, seeing that the Jews always just held
on and prayed. Ash on the other hand is also nothing but there is a little spark of hope, it is still
moving and it is still alive but so useless that no one cares and no one realizes it. Ash also just fits
because of the burning smell and feel that comes from the so called chimneys which await them.
Diction can definitely change how we think and how we imagine a scene and the newer version
gives a darker and more surreal

Efforts to Reduce Smoking Among College Students Essay
Smoking has been reduced over the past two decades, but cigarette smoking among college
students is of concern because the smoking prevalence among college students did not decrease as
it did among the general population, (Harrar et al. 121). This statement shows the significance of
efforts to reduce smokingamong college students. I believe college campuses would benefit from
a no smoking policy . This policy would serve to eliminate the harmful effects of smoking and
second hand smoke on campuses. If students and faculty are not permitted to smoke on campus,
they will have to travel off campus to smoke. Therefore, if smoking on campus property is
prohibited, smokers will be inconvenienced, so many students may quit or at least... Show more

Although this shows why people continue to smoke, I believe there is another aspect of using
tobacco that is more important. This aspect is why people start to use tobacco products. Without
motive to begin using tobacco, countless lives would be saved, and the addictive drug found in
tobacco would not be an issue (Murphy Hoefer, Alder, and Higbee 371). There are many reasons
why people begin using tobacco products, and it has been shown that 88% of smokers that
smoke on a daily basis report that they started using tobacco products by the age of eighteen
(CDC). This statistic supports emphasis on trying to reduce smoking for young adults and
teenagers. Many teenagers claim that they began smoking to fit in . Numerous young people
also admit to trying tobacco products because of peer pressure and social situations. Teenagers
are more likely to conform to fit in with a certain group, or to meet a certain social norm because
they want others to like them. Believe it or not, peer pressure can be a very powerful thing.
Although many people like to view themselves as being in control, others can easily influence the
mind. This explains why so many teenagers and young adults give in to smoking cigarettes or
using other tobacco products. Being an eighteen year old college student, I understand that life is
very stressful and that it sometimes can be hard to fit in. However, I also believe that there are

  • 2. The Classical Realism And Constructivist Theory Terrorism has many forms. Though society knows many of its vicious faces, little does the world acknowledge that these terror spurred events are often encouraged and sponsored through the politics of well known nations. I will be applying both the classical realism and constructivist theory to highlight ways in which the constructivist perspective better addresses state sponsored terrorisms effect on global relations. Classical realism focuses on the interactions of state players. There are three main components to the classical realist perspective; state centrism, rationality, and power. State sponsored terrorism is controlled by state actors to achieve the goal of political gain. In such instances, countries which perceive themselves as the victims (Demir 47) of some global injustice support acts of violence to motivate change by fear. Terrorism itself poses an issue for the realist paradigm as its main actors are non state. Though it is the response and decisions of state players that dictate the outcome on interactions between nations, non state actors participate in the actual acts of terror. Non state actors (NSA) are organizations, or individuals, that hold political influence, but have no standing as a country. Terrorist groups are a subset of NSA s who use violence and scare tactics against non combatant targets to bring about political manipulation. Even though the non state actor carries out the attack, the state centric approach emphasizes the dominant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Managing Remote Sales Teams Offer Unique Challenges Awesome sales teams aren t just found in office cubicles. A sales member might attend a CEO meeting in California, play a round of golf with an important client in Georgia, or cold call prospective leads from an apartment in Barcelona. Technology makes remote work more accessible. The office now encompasses different countries and time zones. A Stanford University research study found that employees are 13 percent more productive when working remotely. However, managing a remote salesteam isn t easy. People work at their own pace, creating disconnection among team members. When problems occur, it s not as simple as getting up from your desk and walking down the hall to get clarification face to face. Managing remote sales teams offer unique challenges, but you can overcome them. Let s explore four ways to lead your remote team to more closed deals. 1. Set Clear Expectations When setting expectations, sales employees are encouraged to meet higher performance levels. A recent Gallup poll of German workers found that when a manager sets clear priorities for their employees about 38 percent of workers feel engaged and will strive to increase their work performance. Establish clear expectations for your team. It provides everyone a set standard to maintain. The benchmark should include sales objectives, specific online procedures when working on leads, and tips for managing time more efficiently. Sales managers must be willing to hop on a Skype call with their team. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Currently in the league there are 13 NFL teams are under local law, 12 NFL teams that have nondiscrimination laws, and 7 other teams are no state or local law in the NFL. Sam was going to play for the St. Louis Rams which means it was a local law and would be under and thus subjected to discriminatory laws based on sexual orientation. Time changes everything, but we cannot stop time we must accept life and the circle of life. As we are young one day our eye sight are not going to be the same , nor our hearing , not even our taste or senseof smell , everything changes.my question is are there ways to communicate with those at a certain age? I answer myself of course there is and especially when talk to your healthcare provider. Everything changes with time maybe we might be lucky and not have any hearing impairments, but we can t tell the future. We might not understand , what an elderly patient with impairing hearing loss goes to everyday but for us to have such a patient we much have patience and speak in a clear voice .There are over Twenty million people in the united states that have auditory impairment in other terms having trouble hearing . Many women, children men experience hearing loss, but the largest groups that consist are individuals over the age of 65. first thing ,when communicating with the patient ,ask them what you can do to help them be more comfortable so they can understand you .Also change position talk to them face to face look directly at them, this gives them a clear view of your lips when your speaking at them. Touch the sense of touch; you can give them a light touch shoulder to grab their attention when you speak to them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each childis intensely involved with the tiny, glowing screens that show characters running around at the commands of the childs every wish. Unfortunately, parents have not helped this issue become any better: instead, they are quick to hand their toddler a phone or tablet in order to keep them occupied and out of their ways. It s no surprise either that children are this way considering the recent boom in technological developments and further societal integrations. But is the introduction of technology of any kind at a young age as beneficial as it is put out to be? Today s generation of kids, referred to as glow kids , is suffering from the overuse of technology in their daily lives. • 7. Article Reflection Essay When I first became concerned with what was going on in the world, I always turned to the News Channel or a documentary to update me on that day s current event. I never opened a newspaper, magazine, book etc. because I felt it was less time consuming, more intriguing and simpler to understand if I listened to the story being spoken rather than reading it. Due to this class and our weekly article assignments, I realized it is much more stimulating to open up a newspaper or print out an article to read rather than watch a television screen to inform me on what is going on in the world. Not only did this class help me appreciate reading more, but it also taught me the real meaning behind key terms and cases that can help me make better use of the article I am reading rather than trying to understand what the story is. I truly believe these article assignments caused a major positive impact on my reading abilities, understanding and use of the context and all around better knowledge on what is going on regarding current events. Since I was a child, I was never big on reading because my mind would wander off to different places and I would lose track of my reading. When Professor Varner announced to the class about the weekly article assignments it really did not sound all that captivating to me. I did not look forward to these assignments because I knew I had to actually read an article and understand the issue, even though this was extremely easy going and not time consuming ... From 1501 to 1736, art greatly flourished under this Shiite Dynasty led by significant patrons such as Shah Tahmasp and Shah Abbas. Persian pottery art was one of these art forms that rapidly developed during this period. Safavid potteries had origins in Persian tradition and was influenced by Ottoman, European and Chinese styles. Since early 9th century, Chinese porcelains and celadon wares have been traded to the Middle East. Because of the hardness, whiteness and translucency of porcelain and metal like color of celadon, these Chinese products have always been valued much more than local ones. The only decorations are patterns carved around the body of the plate instead of being painted. This piece closely resembles Chinese celadon wares from Longquan. The glaze was made from copper instead of iron that was normally used for celadon wares. Differed from traditional colorful Persian art, this plate only has one color. Its monochrome green color, the lack of decoration and short foot demonstrate its imitation of celadon wares. Safavid craftsmen did not stop at purely borrowing Chinese designs, but incorporated local traditions in different ways. The blue and white porcelain like potteries with Persian shapes are one significant example. The Tulip Vase (Figure 3) has a baluster form body with three short nozzles. This stonepaste piece was painted in blue under transparent glaze, thus only has two basic colors: blue and white. On the wide flat rims of each nozzle, there are painted flower petals surrounding the center opening. On the neck of the vase, there are repeating decorative motifs including perhaps birds and clouds at the top, along with vertical flowers and leaves motifs closer to the body. The paintings on the top part of the body appear to have three identical birds and clouds in compartmentalized sections around the vase. Below the birds, there are bamboos, rocks, flowers and a peacock. At the lowest part, there are repeating decorations in geometric forms and vine motifs. The iconographies of swirly clouds, bamboos and rocks are very similar to common Chinese ones. The swirly clouds means fortune and heaven, while the bamboos represents longevity, resilience, flexibility, and strength. Judging from the blue and white color. Meanwhile, the birds, peacocks and patterns on the lower part of body could be seen in both Chinese and Islamic artworks. The most distinct part is the shape of this vase. It is often ... The pros will be first discussed. Stopping child labour in Cote d Ivoire would definitely help the children to be free from physical and mental scars. Child labour, according to various research, will leave physical and especially psychological scars on the children involved. These scars are caused by abusive actions by plantation owners, especially those who require the children to complete an exaggerated amount of work before they get to rest or eat their meals. I feel like that maybe a little late in the game, but my parents never really read to my sister and me while we were growing up. I never truly had that, wow moment with a book just yet. My father was in the Army and was deployed a lot and my mom worked or tried to stay busy so she would not miss him. Reading wasn t on the top of their to do list and at the time, it wasn t on the top of mine. We were busy exploring new cultures and new places that other people could only dream of. I had been to France, Italy, Czech, and many other European countries before I was old enough to retain where I was and what I was experiencing. Oh, but that faithful day in my 5th grade class when reading evaluations came through, I had scored an 8th grade reading level. I was so excited when I showed my parents the evaluation, not because I loved to read and was having one of those, look what reading has given me moments. I just felt smart. We went to the library the next day in school to find books that were in our reading levels. I was a little intimidated at first, the books for 8th graders were superior to what I was used to reading. I was going to Soldier on as my father said and check out one of those huge and almost frightening looking books. I mean just because I could read at an 8th grade level didn t mean I had to, right? Analysis Road Warrior Analyzing the Road Warrior The Road Warrior sequence when Max first arrives to Tire City is full of action, sound effects, music, camera shots, wardrobe symbolisms, and survival instincts. The Road Warrior (George Miller, 1981). I will be writing about the time that Max rescued a victim (Nathen) and returned him back to his tire people located deep within the deserts. The scene will continue all the way up to when the refinery people come to make a deal with the tire peoples. The movie is set in a time where a lack of resources is desperately needed. The viewer could notice that people in this apocalyptic environment need resources because of everyone desperately needing fuel. There is also a lot of scraps that are being used to build towns, clothes, weapons, and cars. The people of this apocalyptic world are trying to adapt to this environment using up any resource they can. Furthermore, I get a sense that the world might have gone bad due to rioting, nuclear warfare, or global warming because of the town being all the way in the dessert and the deprives of resources. These are extremely relatable to the problems occurring in today s time. In conclusion, the environment is extremely harsh and the humane instinct kicks in when people have the will to live which was shown within this scene. The house he painted was in the style of a Victorian house. The house was built next to railroad tracks. He painted House by the Railroad with oil based paint on a canvas. The artwork is a twenty four by twenty nine inches in a frame. When I look at this painting, the first thing I think of is where is it located? It looks like it is in the middle of nowhere but then again it looks like it is in a town because of the railroad tracks. The house is built next to the railroad tracks but there are no trees. The house contains several windows which I think would be neat. In this painting, he uses vertical and horizontal lines. He used vertical lines for the columns of the house and parts of the house. He also uses horizontal lines for parts of the house and the railroad tracks. Many of the lines Edward Hopper painted were medium size. The painting is painted with several figures lined up. If you look at the front of the house, you can tell that it is square on top of another square. The one on the bottom left is also a square but it is bigger. The picture and the lines are very soft. The lines in the picture never seem to overlap each other. The way the sun is in the picture makes it look absolutely beautiful. The sun could be either rising or setting by the look of the artwork. The current immigration crisis in the US is years of mishandling and gone bad. Many of the current immigrants here were originally here. When it comes to choosing leaders, it often seems that the will of the people often will back the man they perceive to not just be good, but great. Great in what though? Whether the people have a choice of their leader or are forced into living under the command of their leader, people will more times than not, more willingly summit themselves to the rule of a great man rather than a man who is simply good or on the other end a tyrant. Cyrus the Great, as portrayed by historian Xenophon in The Education of Cyrus shows perhaps one of the greatest leaders of the ancient world, especially in the region of the modern day Middle East. Xenophon describes to his reader the renowned and extremely loved character of Cyrus as both a conqueror and as an emperor. In seeing Cyrus as a military ruler and as a ruler over a vast nation, Cyrus appears to be the perfect man for modern day, Republican politics. Through the dissection of the character of Cyrus, laid out by Xenophon, both as a conquer and as an emperor, it becomes evident that Cyrus, if alive today, would prove to be the perfect leader of the people of the free world. As president, there are two major roles that encompass all other roles that the person who takes the position must be able to balance: commander in chief to the armed forces and leader of the people of the nation. Precautions are taken on gun control, such as keeping a permanent record of all gun sales, requiring a license and certain mental certifications, and only allowing certain guns to be distributed to the public. During their first meeting, Estella often patronises Pip, commenting on his coarse hands and thick boots . These phrases show that Estella is psychologically harming Pip by breaking his heart, (the effects of this can be seen when Pip starts harming himself later when out of sight.) Also, Estella comments on Pip s phraseology as he calls knaves jacks . This also hurts Pip as he believes Estella will never be with him due to him being a commoner which deeply upsets Pip as Estella is the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. This may seem peculiar for a little girl to prefer yellow instead of pink though my story will soon become clear. Topaz is the stone that coincides with my birth month, I learned of this when I was about four years old. Children occasionally cling to items or ideas, claiming them as their own, I chose yellow. The movie Mary Poppins, a popular movie in the 60 s and 70 s, helped to reinforce the popularity of the color yellow when my brother and I were sick. In the early centuries, examination and dissection of the human body was a taboo practice and consequently became mired due to ethical or religious concerns. The first part is set in a small town in India. The protagonist, Piscine Molitor Patel, and his family own a zoo in Pondicherry, India, but want to move, because the father, Santosh Patel, doesn t agree with the politics there. The Patel family sets sail for Canada, but their ship sinks in a great storm. Piis stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, hyena, orangutan, and a zebra. After the zebra, hyena, and orangutan die, Pi has to survive at sea with a 450 pound pound Bengal tiger. In Life of Pi, most of the characters names are charactonyms. A charactonym is a name, especially for a fictional character, that suggests a distinctive trait of the character. The names have a second hidden meaning; a signifier and a signified. These hidden meanings can serve foreshadowing, and also offer readers subtle clues about the characters personality. A charactonym is a literary term, and in Life of Pi, it is used to tell us background about the characters, and gives us a second meaning from what is written down. Pi s given name, Piscine Molitor Patel, does not merely commemorate a swimming pool; it is also foreshadowing. Piscine Molitor Patel was named so by his family s friend, Mamaji. Mamaji is a champion swimmer, and whenever he travels, he swims in a pool in the area as a way to remember the place. Piscine Molitor is a pool in France, and it is Mamaji s favorite pool. In French, piscine means pool, and a pool is a controlled body of water. In the novel, Pi spends 227 as a castaway in a large body of water that is rough and not controlled. Yann Martelbrilliantly made the connection between Pi s name and his fate. The name Piscine is a hint that water will be an important part of Pi s story later on. In school, Pi is relentlessly teased because his name, Piscine, sounds like pissing. Pi eventually gets so sick of the name calling, that he changes his name to Pi Patel. Without motive to begin using tobacco, countless lives would be saved, and the addictive drug found in tobacco would not be an issue (Murphy Hoefer, Alder, and Higbee 371). There are many reasons why people begin using tobacco products, and it has been shown that 88% of smokers that smoke on a daily basis report that they started using tobacco products by the age of eighteen (CDC). This statistic supports emphasis on trying to reduce smoking for young adults and teenagers. Many teenagers claim that they began smoking to fit in . Teenagers are more likely to conform to fit in with a certain group, or to meet a certain social norm because they want others to like them.
