This document describes a study that used computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to develop an eye prosthesis with osseointegrated retention implants. The researchers used medical imaging and 3D modeling software to design a surgical guide for precisely placing the implants. They then used the guide to plan implant positions and angles to accommodate the prosthesis design. A prototype surgical guide was manufactured and implants were placed using the guide. After osseointegration, a custom prosthesis was made to attach to the implants. The researchers concluded that CAD/CAM methods improved accuracy, reduced errors and appointments, and represented a promising technique for facial prosthesis development.
This study evaluated the outcomes of MyoRing intracorneal implantation in 15 eyes of 15 patients with pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD). Following MyoRing implantation, uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity improved significantly, refractive errors were reduced, and keratometry values decreased. Patients reported low rates of visual symptoms and high satisfaction scores. The study demonstrated that MyoRing implantation via microkeratome is a safe and effective procedure for treating PMD.

The document discusses options for secondary intraocular lens implantation in patients who are aphakic. It considers posterior chamber intraocular lenses sutured to the sclera or iris as well as anterior chamber intraocular lenses. While anterior chamber lenses were once associated with many complications, modern designs with flexible haptics have fewer issues. Sutured posterior chamber lenses also provide good outcomes but suture-related problems can occur. Overall, both options are effective for correcting aphakia when capsular support is lacking, though case selection and surgical technique are important factors for success.
This document discusses various types of eye implants and prosthetics used to treat eye diseases and restore vision. It describes corneal implants like artificial corneas used to replace damaged corneas. It also discusses intraocular lenses implanted after cataract removal, implants for retinal detachment surgery like vitreous implants, and scleral buckling materials. The document then covers surgical adhesives, eye shields, artificial tears, and various types of contact lenses including hard, soft, and gas permeable lenses.

Keratoprosthesis is a surgical procedure where an artificial cornea replaces a severely damaged or diseased natural cornea. It involves implanting an artificial optical cylinder made of clear plastic materials inside the eye with a supporting flange or skirt outside the eye. The Boston KPro is the most commonly used keratoprosthesis device and comes in Type 1 and Type 2 models for different clinical situations. The Osteo-Odonto KPro is a more complex multi-stage procedure that uses the patient's own tooth and surrounding bone to support an artificial cornea for patients with severe dry eye conditions. Keratoprosthesis surgery aims to restore sight for patients with corneal blindness when traditional corneal transplant is not possible or
This document discusses the principles of microvascular surgery. It begins with an introduction to microsurgery and reconstructive microsurgery. The history of microsurgery is then outlined, including important early developments like the invention of the compound microscope and the first vascular anastomosis. The key tools used in microsurgery like the surgical microscope, microinstruments, and microsutures are described. The basic principles of microsurgery are discussed, such as gentle tissue handling and ensuring tension-free anastomoses. Details are provided on vessel preparation, dissection techniques, and the technique of performing an anastomosis.
Keraring intracorneal ring segments are designed to treat keratoconus and other corneal ectatic disorders. They work by remodeling the cornea to regularize its surface and reduce refractive errors through addition techniques. Keraring comes in different sizes and thicknesses to customize treatment and provides long-term stabilization and improvement in vision. Extensive clinical use has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness for correcting refractive errors.
The document discusses the "gold standard" of secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in the era of minimally invasive vitreoretinal surgery (MIVS). It describes scleral fixation and iris-claw IOLs as options for secondary IOL implantation when capsular support is absent. The iris-claw IOL implanted in the posterior chamber is presented as the preferred option, allowing preservation of anterior segment anatomy and low risk of spontaneous dislocation. The trans-conjunctival, mini-invasive approach is also described as beneficial for the treatment of cataract surgery complications during the same setting to minimize trauma.
Oculoplastic surgery is the corrective, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery around the eye. It deals with various disorders of orbit, eyelids and lacrimal system.
An oculoplasty surgery is ideal for medical issues related to the eyes as well as the cosmetic appearance of the eyes and surrounding areas.
This document discusses tectonic patch grafts, which are used to reinforce thin or perforated sclera or cornea when the choroid is exposed to prevent prolapse of ocular contents and infection. There are two types - full thickness grafts for infectious conditions and lamellar grafts for non-infectious conditions. Patch grafts are taken from donor eyes and can be preserved for months. They are strong, flexible, and easy to handle. Indications for patch grafts include necrotizing scleritis, trauma, infections, post-glaucoma surgery, and auto-immune disorders. The graft is sutured into the defect and then covered with conjunctiva or amniotic

Intrastromal corneal ring segments are devices used to correct mild to moderate myopia by flattening the cornea. They are inserted through a peripheral incision and come in various thicknesses to determine the degree of correction. Intrastromal corneal ring segments work by shortening the corneal cord length and producing flattening across the entire cornea. They are indicated for mild myopia up to -3.00 diopters with minimal astigmatism in patients over 21 with stable refraction, and can also be used to treat keratoconus and post-LASIK ectasia. Complications are generally rare and reversible.

Orbital Fractures - The Role of an OphthalmologistAnkit Punjabi
The document discusses orbital fractures, including their causes, evaluation, and treatment. It notes that orbital fractures occur in 15% of serious injuries and are most commonly caused by blows from blunt objects. Evaluation involves assessing visual function and using CT scans or MRI to image the fractures. Treatment depends on the severity and location of the fractures but may involve surgical repair using implants to reconstruct the orbital floor.
The naso-orbitoethmoid complex (NOE) fracture represents the most wearisome and challenging of all facial fractures due to the complexity and intricacy of its surgical & anatomic components. A good working knowledge with regards its surgical anatomy, clinical features, sequence of treatment & surgical approaches, potential pitfalls in its treatment & postoperative consideration,. Appropriate diagnosis and timely treatment is crucial to avoid unfavorable & difficult to treat sequelae.
NASO-ORBITO-ETHMOIDAL fracture and managementMd Roohia
The naso-orbital ethmoid (NOE) fracture involves the area where the nose, orbit, ethmoids, frontal sinus, and anterior cranial base meet. NOE fractures are different than isolated nasal bone fractures but are often associated with them. The NOE complex involves the confluence of multiple facial bones. Proper treatment of NOE fractures aims to restore the bony and soft tissue structures of the region to preserve orbital and nasal function. Fractures are classified according to degree of comminution and detachment of the medial canthal tendon to guide appropriate open reduction and internal fixation techniques.
The naso-orbito-ethmoidal (NOE) region consists of a complex of delicate bones that form the central upper midface. Fractures in this region can be challenging to manage due to the anatomy. The NOE region contains four cavities and is reinforced by vertical and horizontal buttresses. It is supplied by arteries and innervated by branches of the trigeminal nerve. Clinical evaluation of NOE fractures involves examining for signs of injuries to the nose, eyes, medial canthal tendon, and possible intracranial involvement. Classification systems help determine fracture patterns and guide management.
Orbital fractures involve breaks in the bones surrounding the eye socket. The orbit is formed by 7 bones and contains important structures. Types of fractures include those of the orbital floor, walls, and roof. Signs may include bruising, double vision, and numbness. Evaluation involves imaging like CT and examining for vision and eye muscle issues. Treatment depends on severity but may involve monitoring, antibiotics, steroids, or surgery to repair the fracture. Surgical risks include infection, numbness, and rarely blindness.
This document provides an overview of orbital fractures, including:
1. It describes the anatomy of the orbit and its walls, noting that the medial wall and floor are thin and susceptible to fracture.
2. It discusses classifications of orbital fractures including blow-out and blow-in fractures. Blow-out fractures cause orbital walls to be displaced outward while blow-in fractures cause fragments to be displaced inward.
3. Clinical features of different types of fractures are outlined, such as enophthalmos, diplopia, and superior orbital fissure syndrome which can cause paralysis of the extraocular muscles.
