Prometheus for Monitoring Metrics (Fermilab 2018)Brian Brazil
From its humble beginnings in 2012, the Prometheus monitoring system has grown a substantial community with a comprehensive set of integrations. This talk will give an overview of the core ideas behind Prometheus, its feature set and how it has grown to met the challenges of modern cloud-based systems.
While ITIL represents a lot of paperwork to perform IT Services Management, there are some tools, and in particular Open Source tools that may be extremely useul in the establishment of an ITIL compliant IT service management program.

Homer - Workshop at Kamailio World 2017Giacomo Vacca
Homer is an Open Source tool for real-time analysis and monitoring of VoIP and RTC platforms. It supports all the major OSS voice platforms, it's modular, easy to install and scales to carrier-grade infrastructures. Homer goes beyond collecting and correlating signalling and logs, and can also capture RTCP reports, QoS reports, and other events. Through an ElasticSearch endpoint, Homer supports BigData analysis of traffic.
This workshop focuses on the deployment of a multi-node Homer framework with various approaches: bash installers, Docker containers, Puppet.
We'll see how to configure Kamailio, FreeSWITCH (including the ESL interface), RTPEngine, Janus gateway (Events API), to collect signalling, RTCP reports, app-specific events and have them correlated and presented in a user-friendly GUI.
For advanced users, we'll present the installation of captagent, the standalone capture agent, hepgen.js to generate test traffic, and a Wireshark dissector to have full visibility of data flows.
Practical Design Patterns in Docker NetworkingDocker, Inc.
Migrating an application to Docker creates an opportunity to utilize new networking topologies and features, which can provide new functionality to an existing application. This talk will provide an overview of Docker networking with a focus on the architectural choices when migrating applications. Taking sample applications we will look at the existing networking topology and cover the options available to create a simple migration and provide additional functionality.
Apache Spark continues to grow in popularity - due to advanced analytics/machine learning, high performance processing, real-time streaming and multiple language support. Big Data technology is adding more data processing options to an already long list of legacy databases and file systems. As a result, enterprises continue to look for effective and approachable ways to federate all these data sources to solve business information needs. One under-appreciated feature of Spark is its ability to help quickly and powerfully enable federated data access. This presentation will discuss and demonstrate using Spark to query/combine multiple disparate data sources. We will see how to access the various data sources from Spark, normalize to Spark RDDs and combine for processing. The demo will show combining sources such as HDFS, JSON files, HBase, Hive and PostgreSQL and write the result back to a Data Mart for analysis. Also we will show the use of SparkSQL to access federated data in Spark through the Spark Thrift Server using the the Tableau BI tool.
