Emergency contraception (ECPs) can prevent pregnancy if taken after unprotected sex. There are three main types of ECPs: 1. Progestin-only pills containing levonorgestrel (Plan B) work best if taken within 72 hours after sex and are 75% effective. 2. Ulipristal acetate (ELLA) can be taken within 120 hours of sex and has a 60% effectiveness rate. 3. An intrauterine device (IUD) inserted within a week of sex is over 99.9% effective and is the most effective emergency contraception option.
