This document discusses the benefits of auto rickshaws in urban transportation systems. It argues that auto rickshaws can enhance existing transportation systems by being more nimble and affordable, while also creating jobs and serving the urban poor. The document outlines three key ways that auto rickshaws can positively impact transportation: 1) Connecting the Dots - by being part of a seamless whole system, 2) Moving Money - through innovations in services, technology, and financing, and 3) Moving Minds - by changing perceptions and policies around their role in transportation.
My presentation illustrates an on-going study in the field of Smart citiesโ evaluation. The analysis starts from a revised notion of triple helix considering that Civil society plays a prominent role toward the realization of sustainable development in cities (Etzkowitz and Zhou, 2006).
In order to assess the connections between Smart city development and this institutionalization of the Triple Helix, an Analytic Network Process model has been developed. This interrelated model is used for investigating the relations between smart cities components (smart governance; smart economy; smart people; smart living; smart environment), actors (Universities, Government, Industry and Civil Society ) and policy visions derived from the โUrban Europeโ Joint Programme Initiatives, i.e. strategies to which the smart cities are moving to (Connected City, Entrepreneurial City, Liveable City and Pioneer City).
Summary of Masterclass w/CK Prahalad in Amsterdam. Invited by Congress of New Urbanism with Portland-experts Earl Blumenhauer, David Bragdon, Joe Cortright & Marcy McInelly.
Success will depend on deeper, more holistic and informed planning, collaboration and execution. Transportation providers will need to become smarter. (1) Predict demand and optimize capacity and assets, (2) Improve operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact, (3) Dramatically improve the end-to-end traveler or customer experience, (4) Assure safety and security.

Across the UK we are seeing more and more examples of smart city transformation. Key 'smart' sectors utilised by such Cities include transport, energy, health care, water and waste. Against the current background of economic, social, security and technological changes caused by the globalization and the integration process, cities in the UK face the challenge of combining competitiveness and sustainable urban development simultaneously.
A smart city is a place where the traditional networks and services are made more efficient with the use of digital and telecommunication technologies, for the benefit of its inhabitants and businesses.
With this vision in mind, the European Union is investing in ICT research and innovation and developing policies to improve the quality of life of citizens and make cities more sustainable in view of Europe's 20-20-20 targets.
The smart city concept goes beyond the use of ICT for better resource use and less emissions. It means smarter urban transport networks, upgraded water supply and waste disposal facilities, and more efficient ways to light and heat buildings.
And it also encompasses a more interactive and responsive city administration, safer and secure public spaces.
Smart Cities UK lead the way on addressing the best practice examples on smart transformation from across Cities within the United Kingdom whilst disseminating guidance and information transformation within waste, energy, transport and other key smart sectors.

Best practices in business incubation_Rustam_Lalkaka 2002Vasily Ryzhonkov
ย
Business incubators, evolving from experiences with business centers and other support
services, have grown rapidly in number from a 200 a decade ago to over 3,000 world-wide today. Incubator programs in the developing and restructuring countries are
typically focused on technology ventures. But the interests of civil society call for the
government, private sector and universities in all nations to address the wider concerns
of empowering disadvantaged groups through employment and facilitated access to
capital (human, knowledge, social and financial).
While incubators have grown in numbers, the uneven performance and poor
sustainability in many situations have become serious issues with the governments and
sponsors who continue to subsidize many of them. There has been much recent interest in
identifying โbest practicesโ that could then be used elsewhere. But these practices are
location-, culture- and time-specific, and can only be adapted to the conditions prevailing
in local situations. This paper reviews the operating experiences in the USA, (which has
about 1,000 incubators of the world total), in China, Brazil and Korea (the largest
programs in the developing world), and other selected countries. The emerging lessons
(yet to be learned) on enhancing performance based on โgoodโ international practices
together with some urgent research issues are outlined. Success in the Olympiad of
venture creation and employment generation depends essentially on five inter-linked
rings: Public policy, private partnerships, knowledge affiliations, professional
networking and community involvement.

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
ย
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.
Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Cultivating and maintaining discipline within teams is a critical differentiator for successful organisations.
Forward-thinking leaders and business managers understand the impact that discipline has on organisational success.
