Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

7. Electronic commerce was identified as the
facilitation of commercial transactions
electronically, using technology such as
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and
Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).
What is EDI?
What is EFT?
8. EDI is the structured
transmission of data
between organizations
by electronic means. It
is used to transfer
electronic documents
or business data from
one computer system
to another computer
system.
EFT is the electronic
exchange or transfer of
money from one
account to another.
9. The growth and acceptance of credit
cards, automated teller machines (ATM)
and telephone banking in the 1980s were
also forms of electronic commerce.
Another form of E-Commerce was the
airline reservation system, for example
Sabre in the USA and Travicom in the UK.
10. By the end of 2000, many European and
American business companies offered their
services through the World Wide Web.
Since then people began to associate a
word “E-Commerce" with the ability of
purchasing various goods through the
Internet using secure protocols and
electronic payment services.
11.
12. Faster buying/selling procedure, as well
as easy to find products.
Low operational costs and better quality
of services.
Easy to start and manage a business.
No need of physical company set-ups.
Customers can easily select products from
different providers without moving around
physically.
13. There is no guarantee
of product quality.
There are many
hackers who look for
opportunities, and
thus an ecommerce
site, service, payment
gateways, all are
always prone to
attack.
15. B2B can be open to all
interested parties or
limited to specific,
pre-qualified
participants (private
electronic market).
Companies doing
business with each
other such as
manufacturers selling
to distributors and
wholesalers selling to
retailers.
16. Businesses selling to the general public typically
through catalogs utilizing shopping cart software.
B2C is the indirect trade between the company
and consumers.
It provides direct selling through online.
If you want to sell goods and services to
customer so that anybody can purchase any
products directly from supplier’s website.
17. A consumer posts his project with a set
budget online and within hours companies
review the consumer's requirements and
bid on the project.
The consumer reviews the bids and
selects the company that will complete
the project.
C2B empowers consumers around the
world by providing the meeting ground
and platform for such transactions.
18. It facilitates the online transaction of goods or
services between two people.
Though there is no visible intermediary
involved but the parties cannot carry out the
transactions without the platform which is
provided by the online market maker such as
eBay.
19. An individual purchases a book on the
Internet.
A government employee reserves a hotel
room over the Internet.
A business buys office supplies on-line or
through an electronic auction.
A manufacturing plant orders electronic
components from another plant within the
company using the company's intranet.
20.
21.
22.
23. E-mail is short for electronic mail
E-mail environments are set up
similar to a memo format
24. E-mail allows you to create a
message on a computer and send
it via the Internet to another
Internet user or groups of users.
The message may be sent along
with attached computer files
such as documents, spreadsheets,
or graphics. Messages can also be
forwarded or copied to other
users. One major advantage of e-
mail is the ability to instantly
reply to any message the user
receives.
25. There is a huge variety of email service providers
available. You may choose to use the e-mail
services of your ISP, or you may choose a web
based email service like Gmail, Hotmail, or
Yahoo. A great school friendly e-mail service is
Gaggle.
Research and test them out. Your e-mail needs
are as individual as you!
26. FROM: Who is sending the message
TO:
CC:
BCC:
Who the message is going to
CC is a courtesy copy (the TO is aware
of CC)
BCC is a blind courtesy copy (the TO is
unaware of the BCC)
SUBJ: What the message is about
27. Advantages
Speed
Faster than postal service (snail mail)
Cost
Usually free and provided by your
Internet Service Provider (ISP)
Convenient
E-mail can be composed and sent separately
Transfer Files
Can send and receive files via e-mail
28. Disadvantage
• Security
Do not use when security is an issue.
Remember, anyone can read your e-mail.
• Viruses
Viruses are often sent via e-mail attachments.
29. Reply—respond quickly to an e-mail
message with the original message
included
Forward—send the entire e-mail
message to others
Print—create a hard copy of the e-
mail
Save—keep a copy for later review
Delete—remove the message from
your inbox
***e-mails are forever, they are
never truly gone, a copy resides on
30. Keep messages brief and to the
point.
Always include a subject.
Focus on one subject per message.
Include your signature at the
bottom when communicating with
people who may not know you.
Never write in all CAPS. This gives
the reader the impression that you
are SHOUTING at them.
31. Be professional and careful of what
you say about others. Remember e-
mail is easily forwarded.
Don't pass bad news through e-mail.
Don't be too quick to press SEND.
Always proof your message.
Remember that your e-mail is a
reflection of you.
Do not respond to an e-mail when
you are angry.
32.
33. While using the E-Library
students can access videos, e-
Books, full articles from
newspapers, magazines, and
journals. They can also access
audio files, graphics, and much
more. Publications are updated
promptly while thousands of
new images are added daily.
34. eLibrary is an amazing resource
for school research and
development. There are many
resources to be utilized such as
reference searches,
time ranges, and publications
which will all be covered in this
PowerPoint.
35. After choosing a topic to
research, all you have to do is
type your topic into the search
bar and check the boxes of the
resources you’d like.
42. E-Library also offers a reference tab at
the top of the page so students may
search items such as dictionaries,
almanacs, and atlas’.
43. There’s also a publications tab which can be
used to search the 2618 different publications
that eLibrary has to offer. For example, you
could search for Time Magazine and every
issue since 2000 would appear.
44. There is also a help button located in
the upper right hand corner if any
questions arise when navigating the
eLibrary website.
45. eLibrary is an amazing resource with
lot’s of tools to offer. I hope that this
PowerPoint is helpful in navigating the
eLibrary website. Thanks!

Editor's Notes
Browse options (middle right) are a great way to quickly see the most recent titles on a particular area of interest and get a sense of the regions, topics (shown here), and types of content you will find in eLibrary.
Here, you see the entire set of World Development Reports in the results, along with options at the top to modify, search within, and so forth. [Book Series Browse 2 of 2]
Quick Search and Advanced Search are great options for finding content in eLibrary.
Quick Search is an easy way in when you are looking for particular titles, authors, or larger concepts. Quick Search looks for all your search terms in several metadata fields (eg, title, author, abstract, keywords), but it does not search full text.
Advanced Search (shown here) is particularly useful when you are interested in pairing larger concepts, countries, and topics with specific terms and phrases because you can search full text along with those more general terms.
No matter where you start, with Quick or Advanced Search, your results screen will allow you to modify and search within results.
Use Case #2: You need to research the use of conditional cash transfers in education
Type the words conditional cash transfers education in the Quick Search box, and you will get a targeted set of results (17), shown here.
If you realize that you are especially interested in what applies to college or university education, you can select “Search within results” . . .
You can also Save Searches and Search History for the next time you come back to eLibrary.
You can access most of these tools from the “For Librarians tab” at the top or by signing in with your Administrator UN/PW. Once you’re logged in, you can request your COUNTER reports, upload your institution’s logo, and update your IPs. You can download metadata for ebooks and Working Papers and get MARC records. This is a free service for subscribers. You can also sign up for alerts when new records are added each month.
