Electrons moving between atoms causes electricity. Electricity is the flow of electrons through a conductor in a closed circuit. There are two types of circuits: series circuits which have one path for current and parallel circuits which have more than one path. Common household items like lights use parallel circuits powered by batteries which supply energy to move charges through the circuit.
