OF EDUCATION
INTRODUCTION:
Education is a dynamic force in
the life of an individual and influences
his physical, mental, social, emotional,
ethical, creative and spiritual
development. It helps the individual in
undergoing appropriate needed
experiences and in organizing these
experiences into meaning, for his life
activities.
MEANING OF EDUCATION:
Education is the process of
facilitating learning, or the
acquisition of knowledge, skills,
values, morals, beliefs, and habits.
Educational methods include
teaching, training, storytelling,
discussion and directed research.
IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION
CONCEPT OF EDUCATION
Key concepts are the ideas and
understandings that we hope will remain
with our students long after they have
left school. ... By approaching these
concepts in different ways and by
revisiting them in different contexts
within a relatively short time span,
students come to refine and embed
understandings.
ETYMOLOGICAL MEANING OF EDUCATION :
The word Education is derived from
Latin word. educere, educare, and
educatum which means “to learn”, “to
know” and “to lead out”. • That is
education means to lead out internal.

• Rig Veda : "Education is that which
makes a man self reliant and selfless".

• Gandhi's : "By education I mean all round
drawing out of the best in child and man
body, mind and spirit ".
• Zakir Hussain : " Education is the work
of the whole life. It begins form the
time of birth and continues till last
moment of death".
WESTERN CONCEPT OF EDUCATION :
1. Socrates: "Education means the bringing
out of the ideas of universal validity which
are latent in the mind of every man".
2. Plato was an idealist and he fully realized
the needs of human body and soul.
According to him "Education of giving to the
body and soul all the perfection of which
they are susceptible”
3. Aristotle: "Education is the art of
acquiring happiness and not the pursuit of
pleasure”
4. Rousseau:" According to him there are 3
different sources of education".
5. Froebel: “Education is unfoldment of
what is already enfolded in the germ. It is
the process through which the child makes
internal external"
BROADER MEANING OF EDUCATION :

broader sense education is not limited
within the four walls of the classroom but
it is life-long process. It is modification of
behavior and experiences from different
means of sources of education. It helps
one to cope and adjust in the changing
environment.
NARROWER MEANING OF EDUCATION :
➡Narrower Meaning of Education: ... It is
the conventional and traditional type of
schooling system. The curriculum,
methods of teaching and examination and
teachers are prefixed and predetermined.
It is a systematic to achieve the definite
goals of education through classroom
instructions and teaching.
