TANJIN PRINTING AND PACKING LTD.
Company Information:
Tanjim printing and packaging limited (TPPL):is one of the largest
industrial accessories producing companies in Bangladesh,
established in 2002 , the company tried and accomplishes to provide
the best quality of its services to its clients without any topsy-turvy
state of affairs. It is located at BSCIC industrial estate , Begumgonj,
Noakhali ,Bangladesh. The area of the industry is 13500 ft2 .
>>The company manufactures almost all types of printing and
packaging products required for manufacturing industries certified
international standard facilities i.e. packaging, water glass, plate, lunch
box, tea cup, coffee cup, ice cup, and pinni plates that meet global
standards.
Information:
>> They are also manufacturer of PP/HIPS films. Tanjim printing and packaging
limited (TPPL) was established with a purpose of providing hygienic, eco-friendly
,recyclable and best quality products.
>>It has two main production unit i.e;
• Tanjim printing unit and
• Tanjim packaging unit
Purpose Of This Report:
This report is based on the environment related activities which are carried out by
this company.
This report is prepared for:-
❖ Identifying sources of environmental impacts of the particular industrial
setup.
❖ Suggestions to reduce adverse impacts on environment and enhance positive
impacts.
❖ Predicting the impacts using qualitative and if possible ,quantitative methods.
❖ To present results of the impact to proper authorities and to keep a check on
their activities.
Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA):
➔ Environmental Impact Assessment can be defined as a tool to measure both
positive and negative impacts that a proposed project may have on
environment, considering natural, social and economic aspects.
What are the objectives of EIA:
❖ To identify elements of environment that already affected or are likely to
affect it by the activities of the proposed project.
❖ To identify and quantify emission sources and determine the significance of
its impacts.
❖ To identify and quantify any potential losses or damage to flora,fauna and
natural habitats.
❖ To determine based on knowledge whether the proposed investment may
result in favour of environment or not.
❖ Provide recommendation to build capacity and strengthen environmental
management.

What is EIA methodology?
Project Description:
❖ Tanjim printing and packing limited is located at BSCIC industrial estate
Begumgonj,Noakhali,Bangladesh.
❖ There are lots of other industries along thith Tanjim printing and packing Ltd.
i.e.; Haque printing and packaging Ltd, Uni food Ltd, Farid group Ltd, Globe
pharmaceutical Ltd, etc.
❖ The water sources of the factory are groundwater and pond water. The waste
water of the factory directly discharge into “NOAKHALI KHAL”.Tanjim printing
and packing factory have 2 sub-factory which have different operations.
❖ The surrounding environment of the factory is quite acceptable due to less
emission of toxic gases and substances.

❖ Location: BSCIC industrial estate,Bengumgonj,Noakhali.
❖ Area:13500 square meter
❖ Employee: 65 (skilled & unskilled)
❖ Product quality: Transparent/opaque/clean product, eco-friendly, recyclable
❖ Waste generation: Due to recycle factory no measuring waste are generated.
❖ Waste consumption: Only a little amount of water are consumed for
machinery & domestic purpose

Tanjim printing and packaging accessories:
Packaging facility:
As the factory has raw material available from their source, they have cheap
labour facility and all other accessories like water, electricity, transport,
communication, etc. they lead a good facility in the packaging site.
Offset Printing faculty:
As the factory has raw material available from their source, they have cheap
labour facility and
Water resource and reservoir:
Water resource:
Mainly there is a limited use of water in a factory. Those limited water are
collected from groundwater and supply water. They have withdrawal facility and in
some case they use distill water for machine.
Water reservoir:
As they we need to save water so they keep water reservoirs to store water. In
machinery work they use recycled water.
Environmental impacts and mitigations:
During the investigation, EIA team found that Tanjim company is almost perfect.
But Environmentalists found some negative impacts as well as positive
impacts.The EIA team gave some ideas to enhance positive impacts and to
reduce adverse impacts.
Positive impacts:
❖ The industry provided to a large number of people, both skilled and unskilled
people.
❖ Harmful chemicals were not used in the printing section.
❖ They use glass room to reduce noise pollution.
❖ The storage and distribution of water pipe ensures that water is used in an
efficient way and it is not wasted.
❖ It was beneficial for national economy.
❖ Waste like plastics, bottles, etc. were recycled with the help of proper
technology and were reused.
Negative impacts:
❖ No clear data was found about maintenance of air quality standard.
❖ There is no dust control measure taken by the authorities.
❖ The resin which is used in paper packaging is highly hazardous.
❖ Production of plastic products emits carbon dioxide and carbon mono dioxide
which causes a lot of pollution.
❖ The drainage for outgoing harmful water was found improper.
Mitigation:
❖ Mitigation is the process by which one can reduce adverse impacts on
environment.
❖ The drainage systems can be checked regularly and should be maintained
properly.
❖ The process of recycling and reusing should be performed on a regular basis.
❖ They need to control air pollution or else they should improvise the source of
the pollution.
Environmental management plan:
❖ Plan is implemented in order to minimize and to avoid adverse impacts of
pollution on environment.
The main objectives are:
❖ Identification of problems and provide solutions to them.
❖ Monitoring the project while it is under construction and check the usage of
resources.
❖ Take strict actions against people who use exploit resources.
Key issues for environmental management plan:
❖ Management of solid and liquid waste
❖ Water management
❖ Ecosystem should not be disturbed
❖ Noise pollution
❖ Biodiversity should not be harmed
❖ Pollution
Environmental Monitoring:
❖ Environmental monitoring is essential in order to maintain standards of
environment in and near the area of project.
❖ It helps authority to keep a check on activities going on at the site.
❖ They ensure that resources are used judicially and are not exploited.
❖ To ensure that whether mitigation measures are properly followed or not.
❖ To limit them from using extra resources
❖ To stop the project immediately if the rules are not followed properly
Management:
❖ Tanjim printing and packaging limited (TPPL) in order to keep a check on their
activities, they have their own environmental cell which keeps a check on the
activities which degrade environment and try to minimize it.
❖ They try their best to minimize pollution.
❖ They also try to keep working conditions safe so that no worker is affected.
Emergency response plan:
This is the plan which they always keep ready to fight against any kind of accident.
Some of them are:
❖ Fire hazard: Fire can break out at any time in the factory. So to protect
themselves from the fire they keep a fire extinguisher, sand, water,etc.
❖ Health safety: Workers can get injured due to some kind of accident so first
aid kit and hospital facility is provided to workers. They are also given health
insurance.
Suggestions:
❖ Authorities should provide workers with proper safety equipments and proper
uniform.
❖ Industry should be declared a ‘No smoking zone’.
❖ Proper training should be given to the workers in order to prevent any kind of
accident.
❖ Authority should take proper care of all equipments and maintain them so to
prevent any kind of accident.
❖ Even the infrastructure should be maintained.
Conclusion:
This report has been made by keeping some important points in mind about
potential impacts, both negative and positive, assessing them and suggesting
proper mitigation measures to enhance both positive and negative impacts.
It is expected that Tanjim printing and packaging limited will follow all the rules
and regulations and will save environment during the time of their project and will
set a good example for other companies too.

  • 1. EIA REPORT OF TANJIN PRINTING AND PACKING LTD.
  • 2. Company Information: Tanjim printing and packaging limited (TPPL):is one of the largest industrial accessories producing companies in Bangladesh, established in 2002 , the company tried and accomplishes to provide the best quality of its services to its clients without any topsy-turvy state of affairs. It is located at BSCIC industrial estate , Begumgonj, Noakhali ,Bangladesh. The area of the industry is 13500 ft2 . >>The company manufactures almost all types of printing and packaging products required for manufacturing industries certified international standard facilities i.e. packaging, water glass, plate, lunch box, tea cup, coffee cup, ice cup, and pinni plates that meet global standards.
  • 3. Information: >> They are also manufacturer of PP/HIPS films. Tanjim printing and packaging limited (TPPL) was established with a purpose of providing hygienic, eco-friendly ,recyclable and best quality products. >>It has two main production unit i.e; • Tanjim printing unit and • Tanjim packaging unit
  • 4. Purpose Of This Report: This report is based on the environment related activities which are carried out by this company. This report is prepared for:- ❖ Identifying sources of environmental impacts of the particular industrial setup. ❖ Suggestions to reduce adverse impacts on environment and enhance positive impacts. ❖ Predicting the impacts using qualitative and if possible ,quantitative methods. ❖ To present results of the impact to proper authorities and to keep a check on their activities.
  • 5. Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA): ➔ Environmental Impact Assessment can be defined as a tool to measure both positive and negative impacts that a proposed project may have on environment, considering natural, social and economic aspects.
  • 6. What are the objectives of EIA: ❖ To identify elements of environment that already affected or are likely to affect it by the activities of the proposed project. ❖ To identify and quantify emission sources and determine the significance of its impacts. ❖ To identify and quantify any potential losses or damage to flora,fauna and natural habitats. ❖ To determine based on knowledge whether the proposed investment may result in favour of environment or not. ❖ Provide recommendation to build capacity and strengthen environmental management.

Project Description: ❖ Tanjim printing and packing limited is located at BSCIC industrial estate Begumgonj,Noakhali,Bangladesh. ❖ There are lots of other industries along thith Tanjim printing and packing Ltd. i.e.; Haque printing and packaging Ltd, Uni food Ltd, Farid group Ltd, Globe pharmaceutical Ltd, etc. ❖ The water sources of the factory are groundwater and pond water. The waste water of the factory directly discharge into “NOAKHALI KHAL”.Tanjim printing and packing factory have 2 sub-factory which have different operations. ❖ The surrounding environment of the factory is quite acceptable due to less emission of toxic gases and substances.

Factory Information: ❖ Established: 2002-2003 ❖ Location: BSCIC industrial estate,Bengumgonj,Noakhali. ❖ Area:13500 square meter ❖ Employee: 65 (skilled & unskilled) ❖ Product quality: Transparent/opaque/clean product, eco-friendly, recyclable ❖ Waste generation: Due to recycle factory no measuring waste are generated. ❖ Waste consumption: Only a little amount of water are consumed for machinery & domestic purpose

  • 16. Tanjim printing and packaging accessories: Packaging facility: As the factory has raw material available from their source, they have cheap labour facility and all other accessories like water, electricity, transport, communication, etc. they lead a good facility in the packaging site.

  • 18. Water resource and reservoir: Water resource: Mainly there is a limited use of water in a factory. Those limited water are collected from groundwater and supply water. They have withdrawal facility and in some case they use distill water for machine. Water reservoir: As they we need to save water so they keep water reservoirs to store water. In machinery work they use recycled water.
  • 19. Environmental impacts and mitigations: During the investigation, EIA team found that Tanjim company is almost perfect. But Environmentalists found some negative impacts as well as positive impacts.The EIA team gave some ideas to enhance positive impacts and to reduce adverse impacts.
  • 20. Positive impacts: ❖ The industry provided to a large number of people, both skilled and unskilled people. ❖ Harmful chemicals were not used in the printing section. ❖ They use glass room to reduce noise pollution. ❖ The storage and distribution of water pipe ensures that water is used in an efficient way and it is not wasted. ❖ It was beneficial for national economy. ❖ Waste like plastics, bottles, etc. were recycled with the help of proper technology and were reused.
  • 21. Negative impacts: ❖ No clear data was found about maintenance of air quality standard. ❖ There is no dust control measure taken by the authorities. ❖ The resin which is used in paper packaging is highly hazardous. ❖ Production of plastic products emits carbon dioxide and carbon mono dioxide which causes a lot of pollution. ❖ The drainage for outgoing harmful water was found improper.
  • 22. Mitigation: ❖ Mitigation is the process by which one can reduce adverse impacts on environment. ❖ The drainage systems can be checked regularly and should be maintained properly. ❖ The process of recycling and reusing should be performed on a regular basis. ❖ They need to control air pollution or else they should improvise the source of the pollution.
  • 23. Environmental management plan: ❖ Plan is implemented in order to minimize and to avoid adverse impacts of pollution on environment. The main objectives are: ❖ Identification of problems and provide solutions to them. ❖ Monitoring the project while it is under construction and check the usage of resources. ❖ Take strict actions against people who use exploit resources.
  • 24. Key issues for environmental management plan: ❖ Management of solid and liquid waste ❖ Water management ❖ Ecosystem should not be disturbed ❖ Noise pollution ❖ Biodiversity should not be harmed ❖ Pollution

Environmental Monitoring: ❖ Environmental monitoring is essential in order to maintain standards of environment in and near the area of project. ❖ It helps authority to keep a check on activities going on at the site. ❖ They ensure that resources are used judicially and are not exploited. ❖ To ensure that whether mitigation measures are properly followed or not. ❖ To limit them from using extra resources ❖ To stop the project immediately if the rules are not followed properly

Management: ❖ Tanjim printing and packaging limited (TPPL) in order to keep a check on their activities, they have their own environmental cell which keeps a check on the activities which degrade environment and try to minimize it. ❖ They try their best to minimize pollution. ❖ They also try to keep working conditions safe so that no worker is affected.
  • 27. Emergency response plan: This is the plan which they always keep ready to fight against any kind of accident. Some of them are: ❖ Fire hazard: Fire can break out at any time in the factory. So to protect themselves from the fire they keep a fire extinguisher, sand, water,etc. ❖ Health safety: Workers can get injured due to some kind of accident so first aid kit and hospital facility is provided to workers. They are also given health insurance.

Suggestions: ❖ Authorities should provide workers with proper safety equipments and proper uniform. ❖ Industry should be declared a ‘No smoking zone’. ❖ Proper training should be given to the workers in order to prevent any kind of accident. ❖ Authority should take proper care of all equipments and maintain them so to prevent any kind of accident. ❖ Even the infrastructure should be maintained.
  • 29. Conclusion: This report has been made by keeping some important points in mind about potential impacts, both negative and positive, assessing them and suggesting proper mitigation measures to enhance both positive and negative impacts. It is expected that Tanjim printing and packaging limited will follow all the rules and regulations and will save environment during the time of their project and will set a good example for other companies too.
