3. Public
Awareness• After the scientific and industrial revolution in the
recent past , there has been immense impact of man
on his environment and balance of the ecosystem as
the whole environment.
• Industrialization, deforestation, urbanization, use of
insecticides, pesticides, improper use of fertilizers in
environment are some contributing factors which
challenged the Life of a man, animals, specially birds
and other organisms.
• Human activities are causing many type of
environmental pollutions for which environmental
awareness is necessary.
4. What is Public awareness of
Environment?
• Public awareness of the environment mean the ability to
emotionally understand the surrounding world, including the
laws of the changes occurring in the environment, sensitivity to
all the changes occurring in the environment, understanding of
the cause-and-effect relationship between the quality of the
environment and human behaviour.
5. Goal of sustainable development cannot be
achieved by any government until public has
participatory role in it.
Public participation is possible only when the
public is aware about the ecological and
environmental issues.
E.g. ...a drive by the government to ban the
littering of polythene cannot be successful until
the public understands the environmental
implications of the same.
7. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO RAISE
AWARENESS?
Host educational events..
Host social events..
Organize a service project..
News jack…
Be the helpful Friend…
Distribute Brochure inserts..
Be the Trusted expert…
Share your Gratitude..

10. Factors Affecting
Environment
• Population Explosion: Imbalanced carrying capacity of
environment.
• Pattern of production and consumption: Resources
extraction and utilization faster than regeneration.
• Issue of waste management/disposal : Waste production
beyond assimilating capacity of environment,
• Unsustainable plan for agricultural production: Use of
excess chemical fertilizers & Pesticide, Weedicide etc.
• Failure in implementation/execution of Industrial waste
disposal policy.
• Lack of awareness among people : Value of environment.
11. How are we Hurting the Environment?
• We are destroying the oceans and polluting
the air by making and using plastic bags.
• We are polluting the ocean by throwing
Garbage.
• We are polluting the air, soil, and oceans by
using pesticides and Chemicals.
12. Your role in Protecting the
Environment
• Importance of Conference with Environmental Policy /
Producers.
• What are your Environmental Responsibilities?
• Follow producers and work instructions.
• Awareness of the environmental impact of your job/ activities.
• Make a conscious efforts to minimise and segregate waste.
• Make a special effort to save energy and resources.
13.
14. Role of Teacher in Environmental
Education
• To arouse the children's interest in environment and to raise
challenging issue.
• To discuss the approach to problem or topic regarding
environmental issues.
• To arrange visits.
• To provide material needed for practical work
• To arrange for visiting speaker (environmentalist, subject expert).
• To initiate and develop discussion and debates.
• To provide facilities for display and exhibition of the work carried
out.
15. Do's and Don’ts
• Reduce the amount of paper being used by the
following
• Send documents electronically where possible
• Photocopy on both sides of sheets
• Use old one sided photocopies for making notes
• This reduces both the he amount of waste paper
to be disposed of (+ associated costs) as well as
the cost of buying the paper.
• Ensure waste paper is disposed of in the recycling
towers.
16. Do's and Don’ts
• Aqueous Discharges
• Do not pour any chemical or oil down any unauthorised drain,
please enquire with your supervisor where and how this waste is
disposed.
• Waste management
• Ensure that all waste is disposed of in the appropriate receptacles.
• Do not dispose of hazardous waste ( e.g. fridge/ freezers,
fluorescent tubes, CRT Monitors) in the non- hazardous waste
receptacles.
17.
18. Environmental Policy
The five core elements of an environmentally friendly policy
are:-
Commitment
Responsibility
Protection
Communication
Continuous Improvement
19. Some Measures taken by
Indian Government to Check
Environmental Pollution
• Environmental Courts: Special courts are being set up to
ensure speedy justice of the poor against factories that
pollute the Environment.
• Environment Friendly Products : The government is
setting stringent standards for all products in the market.
Those, which meet these standards of production and
performance will be given the label of excellence like the
ISI mark.
20. Some Measures taken by
Indian Government to Check
Environmental Pollution
. Unleading Of Petrol : Refineries are being persuaded to
make their petrol lead free.
. Indian petrol has the highest lead content, which
creates major pollution through automobiles.
. Ban On Harmful Pesticides: Eight chemical pesticides,
of which DDT, BHC, Aldrin and Malathion are the
main culprits have been isolated. There are now plans
to replace them with safe bio pesticides.

21. Some Measures taken by
Indian Government to Check
Environmental Pollution
. National Waste Management Council: The main
task is to convert 40 million tones of fly ash,
that lie as a mountain near thermal power
plants into bricks, city garbage into energy and
sewage into fertilizer.
. Public Liability Insurance: This makes it
mandatory for all companies to take out a
public liability insurance to be paid in 48 hours.
.
22. Some Measures taken by Indian
Government to Check
Environmental Pollution
• Pollution By Motor Vehicles : Anti-pollution
measures against motor vehicles are
being strictly enforced. Vehicles not adhering to the
standards prescribed are fined
heavily and may even be asked to be off the road.
• Hotel Near Sea Shore: Action has been taken against
a large number of hotels
which encroach beaches in flagrant violation of laws.
23. • National River Action Plan: The proposal is to set up a
National river authority which will plan policy for
water use and waste management at the national
level.
• Solar Energy Commission: Since the energy sector is
the major polluter, the idea is to create decentralized
energy at the village level, instead of multiplying the
mainstream producer.
• No Smoking In Public Places: A ban is proposed on
smoking in public places. The Delhi government has
taken a lead in this direction.

Essential?• Protection of the atmosphere.
• Protection of land resource.
• Conservation of biological diversity.
• Environmentally sound management of
biotechnology and hazardous waste.
• Prevention of illegal traffic in toxic products and
waste.
• Improvement in living and working condition of
People of present generation as well as future
generation.
25. How to promote Environmental
Awareness among Children
• Introducing them to everything local. Supporting local produce
and production I am excellent way in which you can help the
environment with immediate effect…
• Start a Veggie Garden At Home…
• Recycle At Home…
• Beat of Both Sides…
• Teach your Kinds about about Power…
26.
27. Benefits of an Environmental Management
System (EMS)
• Protection of the environment
• Demonstrate compliance with legislation
• Reduce risk and liabilities
• Meet customer requirements
• Reduce costs
• Improve public image
28. GENERAL CONSERVATION
MESSAGES
• Save the earth save ourselves.
• The solution is less pollution.
• Get the hint, don’t leave your footprint.
• Do your share for cleaner.
• The simple life causes less strife.
• Show its worth , save the earth
• Feed the planet and it will nourish you.
• Conserve what our children deserve.
29. We have not inherited the earth
from our forefather, but we have
borrowed it from our children.

31. CONCLUSION
As you have learned in our last lessons, it is important to raise people's
awareness of how every one of us is responsible for climate change and the
severe consequences for the environment as well as the living creatures on
earth. We are not only destroying the homeland of hundred thousands of
people, especially those living at coastal areas, but also destroy the habitats of
around 12% of the world's total birds and about a quarter of the species of
mammals. We are responsible that they are threatened with extinction.
Therefore every little action we take to protect and preserve our environment
is of the utmost importance and this is exactly what you have achieved today.
Try to continue the path you have just started and to put the ideas that you
have recommended to your listeners into practice yourself. The environment
will be thankful.
