Effective of a Structured Teaching Module Regarding Care of Children in the Cardio Thoracic Intensive Care Unit on the Knowledge and Practice of the Nurses

A quasi experimental study, with pre test and post test without control group research design, the study was conducted on 100 nurses working in the cardio thoracic intensive care unit. purposive of sampling was used in selecting the sample for the study. The purpose of the study was to assess the effectiveness of a structured teaching module STM on the knowledge and practice of the nurses regarding management of patients in the cardio thoracic intensive care unit. The nurse taken for the study belonged mainly to the age group of 21 25 years 56 and were single 66 majority of the nurses were with diploma nursing qualification 72 .majority 65 had 1 3 years of experience and had worked in the cardiac surgery area. The finding of the study revealed that during pretest, the nurses had above average knowledge and practice before the structured teaching .with the implementation of the STM, these was an improvement in both the knowledge and practice of the STM, these was important in both the knowledge and practice of nurses . SETTING OF THE STUDY
The study was conducted at central hospital and trauma &
heart care center Halwani.
POPULATION
Population for this study was registered nurses, working in
the cardiothoracic ICU in the hospital.
SAMPLING
Sample size
The sample size for this study was 100nursesworkingin the
cardio-thoracic intensive care unit of the hospital.
SAMPLE TECHNIQUE
Purposive sampling technique was used to conduct this
study.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF SAMPLE
1. Staff nurses
2. Who were willing to participate in the study .
3. Who had successfully completed any one of the basic
nursing programmers and registered.
4. Who were present during the data collection period.
5. Who had work experience foe at least one year in the
cardio thorasis ICU.
HYPOTHESIS
1. These is no significant difference between the pre and
post test knowledge of the staff nurses on the care of
children in cardio-thoracic ICU

SUMMARY
This chapter includes the analysis of data done on the
collected data and the findings in percentages, mean, SD
mean% and item wise percentage of correct responses for
knowledge, and correct practices of nurses of correct
responses for knowledge, and correct practices of nurses
regarding care of children in the cardiovascular ICU it is
presented of nurses regarding care of children in the
cardiothoracic ICU .it is presented in table ‘t’ values and chi-
square values and correlation coefficient calculation were
done and presented to state the significant statistical
associations of pre and post testandwiththeknowledgeand
practice of the staff nurses to that of the structured teaching
module has been established and the demographicvariables
did not except for the changes .
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
Children admitted to the cardiac ICU are predominantly
those with congenital heart disease. thus, the hospital which
served as the setting for this reputed for cardiac surgeries
approximately 12-14surgeries performed per day) where
children with congenital heart disease are oftenopratedand
post-operative care is given in ICU. Taking care of these
children, when they undergo corrective surgeries is a big
challenge and nurses have a vital role to play in their
recovery. This involves optimum knowledge and practice of
the nurses which could be improved with a structured
teaching module.

This study was conducted to review the effect that simulation training programs
for emergency situations involving newborn babies have on nursing students’ clinical
performance. Opportunities for nursing students to clinically practice what they
learned are on the decrease. Even if they take part in practice, they are usually
limited to simple tasks or observation. Given this reality, there is an urgent need to
develop new measures to improve their clinical practice ability. The low fertility rate
that is worsening over time and the difficulty in operating an intensive care unit for
newborn babies has led to a decrease in such departments, leading to difficulties

This study assessed the effectiveness of a structured teaching program on the knowledge and practices of caregivers regarding postoperative care of children with anorectal malformations. Sixty caregivers participated in a pre-test, were given the structured teaching program, and completed a post-test 7 days later. The results showed that the mean knowledge score increased significantly from 11.02 to 18.87, with a mean difference of 7.85. The mean practice score also increased significantly from 4.32 to 8.73, with a mean difference of 4.42. The study concluded that the structured teaching program improved the caregivers' knowledge and practices regarding postoperative care of children with anorectal malformations.

Background Hospital contributes significantly tangible and intangible resources on a concurred plan by the scheduling of surgery on the OT list. Postponement decreases efficiency by declining throughput leads to wastage of resources hence burden to the nation. Patients and their family face economic and emotional implication due to the postponement. Postponement rate being a quality indicator controls check mechanism could be developed from the results. Postponement of elective scheduled operations results in inefficient use of the operating room (OR) time on the day of surgery. Inconvenience to patients and families are also caused by postponements. Moreover, the day of surgery (DOS) postponement creates logistic and financial burden associated with extended hospital stay and repetitions of pre-operative preparations to an extent of repetition of investigations in some cases causing escalated costs, wastage of time and reduced income. Methodology A cross-sectional study was done in the operation theaters of a tertiary care hospital in which total ten operation theaters of General Surgery Data of scheduled, performed and postponed surgeries was collected from all the operation theater with effect from March 1st to September 30th, 2018. A questionnaire was developed to find out the reasons for the postponement for all hospital’s stakeholders (surgeons, Anesthetist, Nursing Officer) and they were further evaluated time series analysis of scheduling of Operation Theater for moving average technique. Results Total 958 surgeries were scheduled and 772 surgeries performed were and 186 surgeries were postponed with a postponement rate of 19.42% in the cardiac surgery department during the study period. Month-wise postponement Rate exponential smoothing of time series data shows the dynamic of operating suits. AbStrACt
Objectives Teamwork and interprofessional team training
are fundamental to ensuring the continuity of care and
high- quality outcomes for patients in a complex clinical
environment. Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance
Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) is an
evidence- based team training programme intended to
facilitate healthcare professionals’ teamwork skills. The
aim of this study is to describe healthcare professionals’
experiences with teamwork in a surgical ward before
and during the implementation of a longitudinal
interprofessional team training programme.
Design A qualitative descriptive study based on follow- up
focus group interviews.
Setting A combined gastrointestinal surgery and urology
ward at a hospital division in a Norwegian hospital trust.
Participants A convenience sample of 11 healthcare
professionals divided into three professionally based focus
groups comprising physicians (n=4), registered nurses
(n=4) and certified nursing assistants (n=3).
Interventions The TeamSTEPPS programme was
implemented in the surgical ward from May 2016 to June

This study assessed the perception of decision-making among nurse interns at Umm Al Qura University in Saudi Arabia. A questionnaire was administered to 30 nursing interns to measure their clinical decision-making skills. The findings showed that clinical quality was perceived as the highest attribute, while management received the lowest score. Most interns agreed that clinical settings caused stress. There was no significant correlation found between decision-making and competence based on gender. The knowledge gained from this study can help nursing staff, interns, administrators, and the university to identify skill gaps and improve internship training programs.

This study was conducted to review the effect that simulation training programs
for emergency situations involving newborn babies have on nursing students’ clinical
performance. Opportunities for nursing students to clinically practice what they
learned are on the decrease. Even if they take part in practice, they are usually
limited to simple tasks or observation. Given this reality, there is an urgent need to
develop new measures to improve their clinical practice ability. The low fertility rate
that is worsening over time and the difficulty in operating an intensive care unit for

This study aimed to determine how nursing students transfer theoretical knowledge to clinical practice and the difficulties they experience. This study assessed the effectiveness of a structured teaching program on the knowledge and practices of caregivers regarding postoperative care of children with anorectal malformations. Sixty caregivers participated in a pre-test, were given the structured teaching program, and completed a post-test 7 days later. The results showed that the mean knowledge score increased significantly from 11.02 to 18.87, with a mean difference of 7.85. The mean practice score also increased significantly from 4.32 to 8.73, with a mean difference of 4.42. The study concluded that the structured teaching program improved the caregivers' knowledge and practices regarding postoperative care of children with anorectal malformations.

Background Hospital contributes significantly tangible and intangible resources on a concurred plan by the scheduling of surgery on the OT list. Postponement decreases efficiency by declining throughput leads to wastage of resources hence burden to the nation. Patients and their family face economic and emotional implication due to the postponement. Postponement rate being a quality indicator controls check mechanism could be developed from the results. Postponement of elective scheduled operations results in inefficient use of the operating room (OR) time on the day of surgery. Inconvenience to patients and families are also caused by postponements. Moreover, the day of surgery (DOS) postponement creates logistic and financial burden associated with extended hospital stay and repetitions of pre-operative preparations to an extent of repetition of investigations in some cases causing escalated costs, wastage of time and reduced income. Methodology A cross-sectional study was done in the operation theaters of a tertiary care hospital in which total ten operation theaters of General Surgery Data of scheduled, performed and postponed surgeries was collected from all the operation theater with effect from March 1st to September 30th, 2018. A questionnaire was developed to find out the reasons for the postponement for all hospital’s stakeholders (surgeons, Anesthetist, Nursing Officer) and they were further evaluated time series analysis of scheduling of Operation Theater for moving average technique. Results Total 958 surgeries were scheduled and 772 surgeries performed were and 186 surgeries were postponed with a postponement rate of 19.42% in the cardiac surgery department during the study period. Month-wise postponement Rate exponential smoothing of time series data shows the dynamic of operating suits. ACKGROUND Supplemental oxygen is a life saving treatment emergency situation, and it is frequently employed as a erapeutic agent in emergency and intensive care units. Additional oxygen administration, often at high levels, is frequently required to maintain adequate oxygen flow to essential organs. A skill competency program is designed to assess nurses knowledge and practice in terms of their abilities and competence related to any pic of concern and thereafter educating them and filling the gaps in air knowledge and practice with the aim to improve their onwards. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY 1.To develop the skill competency programme on safe oxygen administration and prevention of its complications. 2. To assess the pre test knowledge and practice regarding safe oxygen administration nd prevention of its complication. 3. To evaluate the effectiveness of kill competency programme on safe oxygen administration and prevention of its complication in experimental group. 4. To compare e post test score of knowledge and practice regarding safe oxygen administration and prevention of its complications, in experimental and control group. 5.To find the correlation between post test knowledge and practice scores in experimental group regarding safe oxygen administration and prevention of its complication. METHOD This study is quasi experimental, using a one equivalent pre test post test design. The most suited for comparing and evaluating the skill competency programs performance in terms of knowledge and practice about safe oxygen delivery and the prevention of complications among staff nurses working in a selected hospital in Meerut. The sample size was 100 people 50 samples in the control group and 50 samples in the experimental group . Non Probability Purposive Sampling technique was used to select samples from Chhatrapati Shivaji ubharti Hospital in Meerut for experimental group and Lala Lajpat ai Memorial hospital for control group. The knowledge and practice of the staff nurses were assessed using a structured knowledge questionnaire and modified practice checklists. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used to tabulate and analyses the data. RESULT The correlation between post test knowledge and practice score of staff nurses regarding safe oxygen administration and prevention of its complications. Post test knowledge and practice score of staff nurses calculated p value 0.0001 were compared by Karl s Pearson correlation coefficient as applied at 0.05 level of significance and r=0.11 which shows at there was a moderate positive relationship between knowledge nd practice in experimental group and practice score of staff nurses calculated p value 0.0001 compared by Karl s Pearson correlation efficient was applied at 0.05 level of significance and r=0.57 hich shows that there was a moderate positive relationship between knowledge and practice in control group. among primigravida women.
Subjects and Methods: A quasi experimental research design was utilized. From a specific private Antenatal
Clinic in Mansoura city-Egypt eighty primigravida women aged 20 to 35 years, at 30th week gestation, had
singleton pregnancy and can read and write were selected purposively between of January and August 2011
and was equally divided into two groups; intervention group: received a training program on two MFA skills
and control group: received the routine antenatal care. Using interview sheet and Cranley's Maternal Fetal
Attachment Scale (MFAS) the data were collected at baseline and after two and four weeks of the enrollment.
Results: MFAS score had significantly increased in the intervention group from 61.6±5.9 at the baseline to
68.5±6.8 and 69.6 ±5.9 at 32nd, 34th week gestation respectively. While the changes of the MFAS total score in
the control group were insignificant.
Conclusion: MFAS total scores had significantly increased in the intervention group at 32nd and 34th week
gestation compared to the baseline score. Conversely, the MFAS total score did not differ significantly between
the baseline and two and four weeks after enrollment among the control group.
Recommendations: Enhancing the health care providers' awareness of the MFA skills to utilize in the
promotion of the prenatal MFA and motivate the active role of the nurses in helping the pregnant women to
adhere to the appropriate MFA skills are recommended.

Background Fertility is the natural capability to produce offspring. A lack of fertility is infertility while a lack of fecundity would be called sterility. The term infertility is defined as the inability to conceive despite regular and unprotected intercourse for 2 years. However, risk factors such as the womans age, abnormal menstrual periods, history of pelvic inflammatory disease and whether there has been previous abdominal or pelvic surgery, history of undescended testicles may warrant earlier investigations and treatment of infertility. Couples should be aware that 80 will conceive within a year and 90 within two years if they dont use contraception and have regular intercourse.1 Materials and Methods A pre experimental has provided comparison between a group of subjects before and after the experimental treatment used for this study. The sample consisted 60 staff nurses those were working in obstetrics and gynecology department in selected hospital Haridwar . They were selected by Convenient non – probability Sampling Technique. Data was collected by using a structured knowledge questionnaire regarding recent advancement in infertility treatment. Data analysis is done by using descriptive and inferential method. Results Findings suggest that the pre test knowledge score was 15.45 ±3.88 which has increased to post test knowledge score 30.11 ±3.4. Independent sample “t†test was calculated to find the significant difference between means of pretest and post test knowledge scores. The calculated t value was 23.036 df=59 at p 0.05 . This significant improvement in the knowledge can be attributed to the intervention. Effectiveness of Basic Life Support Training on Knowledge among Nursing Students
Background For the professional growth of nursing students as well as their responsibilities as practitioners and educators, it is crucial to provide current knowledge and training in basic life support procedures. Objectives The purpose of the study was to examine the effectiveness of basic life support training on knowledge among nursing students. Methods A non randomized quasi experimental design One group pre test post test was used in this study. The investigation was carried out in a lab at a college for nursing students. The sample consisted of a convenience sample of 3rd semester students enrolled in the undergraduate nursing class. The study sample consisted of 70 nursing students. Basic life support training included both theoretical and practical components. The students knowledge were assessed before basic life support training. Data were collected using the knowledge assessment questionnaire. The pre and post assessment knowledge scores were compared. Results After basic life support training, level of knowledge scores were higher as compared to pre training scores t= 11.06, p=0.000 . Conclusion The study showed that basic life support training improved knowledge and skills related to basic life support practices in nursing students. Periodic basic life support training is very important for competency in this area among nursing students. Plants growing in arid regions have elicited increased attention, because the hostile environment, in which these plants survive, forces them to develop chemical protective systems through adaptation which is rarely found in vegetation of other ecosystems. Furthermore, many of the plants grow in areas, where the dependence on traditional, plant based medicines over industrially produced pharmaceuticals persists to this day. The two plants, Calotopris Procera giant milkweed, also named C. Persica and Calotropis gigantea crown ower , have been used widely in traditional medicine in North Africa, the Middle East, and South and South East Asia. This has led to extensive research on the chemical constituents of the plants. Both plants are known to be sources of cardenolides, and newer research has yielded a number of interesting cancer active constituents. In addition, extracts of both plants have remarkable nematocidal, molluscidal and insecticidal activities. In many regions, the wood of Calotropis plants has been used as a building material and as a source of fuel. In addition, certain parts of the plants have been used as feed for livestock. In other regions, Calotropis plants are seen as invasive species that threaten local plant life and that due to their toxicity also pose a threat to grazing eld animals. The aim of information retrieval systems is to retrieve relevant information according to the query provided. The queries are often vague and uncertain. Thus, to improve the system, we propose an Automatic Query Expansion technique, to expand the query by adding new terms to the user s initial query so as to minimize query mismatch and thereby improving retrieval performance. Most of the existing techniques for expanding queries do not take into account the degree of semantic relationship among words. In this paper, the query is expanded by exploring terms which are semantically similar to the initial query terms as well as considering the degree of relationship, that is, “fuzzy membership- between them. The terms which seemed most relevant are used in expanded query and improve the information retrieval process. A New Proposal for Smartphone Based Drowsiness Detection and Warning System f...
This paper proposes a Smartphone based system for the detection of drowsiness in automotive drivers. The proposed system uses three stage drowsiness detection technique. The first stage uses the percentage of eyelid closure PERCLOS which is obtained by capturing images with the front camera of the Smartphone with a modified eye state classification method. The system uses near infrared lighting for illuminating the face of the driver during night driving. The second step uses the voiced to the unvoiced ratio VUR obtained from the speech data from the microphone, in the event PERCLOS crosses the threshold. The VUR is also compared with a threshold and if it is a value greater than that of the threshold, it moves on to the next verification stage. In the final verification stage, touch response is required within the stipulated time to declare whether the driver is drowsy or not and subsequently sound an alarm. To awake the driver, a vibrating mechanism is done and also the live GPS location is also sent to an emergency contact. We have studied eight other reference papers for the literature review. The system has three advantages over existing drowsiness detection systems. First, the three stage verification process makes the system more reliable. The second advantage is its implementation on an Android smart phone, which is readily available to most drivers or cab owners as compared to other general purpose embedded platforms. The third advantage is the use of SMS service to inform the control room as well as the passenger regarding the loss of attention of the driver. Data Security by AES Advanced Encryption Standard
Now a days with the rapid development of multimedia technologies, research on safety and security are becoming more important. Multimedia data are generated and transmitted through the communication channels and the wireless media. The efficiencies of encryption based on different existing algorithms are not up to the satisfactory limit. Hence researchers are trying to modify the existing algorithm or even develop new algorithms that help to increase security with a little encryption time. Here in this paper, we have furnished a new technology to modify the AES algorithm which gives more security with a little encryption time and which can be used to encrypt using 128 bit key. Theoretical analysis on the proposed algorithm with the existing reveals the novelty of our work. Here we have proposed a technique to randomize the key and hidden the key data into an encrypted digital image using the basics concept of cryptography and also using the concept of digital watermarking, the concept of key hide has also been encrypted. We have also proposed a new technique to reposition the pixels to break the correlation between them. So, the proposed scheme offers a more secure and cost effective mechanism for encryption. Antimicrobial and Phytochemical Screening of Phyllantus Niruri
Theorigin of Phyllanthus niruri is tropical America from there it spread as a weed to other tropic and sub tropics. It is a tropical annual herb shrub which grows as weed in moist humid waste land. Phyllanthus niruri is among more than 500 Phyllanthus species that are widely spread in temperate and tropical climates region Lizuka et al., 2007. It grows 30 40 cm in height, has small leaves and yellow flowers the stem has green capsule, and blooms with flowers with 5 white sepals and apical acute anther.38g of Mueller Hinton Agar was dissolved in 1000ml distilled water in a conical flask, the mouth of the conical flask was plugged with cotton woo wrapped in aluminium foil. This was sterilized in an autoclave at 121oC for 15mns. The media was removed and allowed to cool to 45oC, later poured into a sterilized plastic petri plates which were appropriately labeled. The present study revealed the antimicrobial activity and phytochemical screening of phyllanthus niruri. The antimicrobial activity of phyllanthus niruri shows great significant against pathogens which are responsible for common infections of skin, respiratory, urinary and gastrointestinal tracts. The phytochemical screening of oxalate, terpenoids, tannins, phenols, quinones, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and steroids were all found to be active within the plant. This bioactive phytochemicals present in P. niruri can be useful for further researches on the plant P. nururi since the phytochemicals have shown preclinical efficacies for treating human diseases’ which include hepatitis and HIV AIDS. Stress An Undetachable Condition of Life
Stressful life events affects human body, which may lead to cardiovascular diseases and effect metabolism and immune system. Recent studies showed increase in stress levels in developing countries. This study aimed to determine the stress levels in MBBS students. The objectives of the study are a To determine the current stress level, b To assess relation between stress level and lifestyle of college students. The present study was carried out in Ahmedabad City of Gujarat State. A total of 400 medical students were included in the study, which were selected using multi stage sampling aged between 18 years to 25 years. Students were questioned regarding their socioeconomic and life style parameters. The results showed that physical activity such as walking, exercise, yoga, meditation etc. were associated to stress levels. College students showed high stress levels with more satisfaction were mostly smokers. Their major reason for eating junk food and smoking was, increase in stress. Conclusion Majority of students suffered from moderate stress levels. Despite of having stress they were happy and satisfied with life with less no internet addiction. Spirituality and stress scales had a positive correlation as most of the students were averagely highly spiritual. Discriminant function can be used to determine the stress level of a person using age, BMI, internet addiction, spirituality, happiness scale and life satisfaction scale of that person. Jayshree N. Comparative Studies of Diabetes in Adult Nigerians Lipid Profile and Antioxid...
The study sought to determine the extent to which the usage of social media in the marketing of agricultural products in South West Nigeria can enhance farmers turnover. It employed the survey research design to collect data with the help of a structured questionnaire to elicit information from respondents selected from six 6 south western states. Research data were analysed using structural equation modelling. The results showed that the use of social media WhatsApp and Facebook in marketing of agricultural products significantly enhances farmers turnover. The managerial implication is that use of Whatsapp and Facebook in the marketing of agricultural products for the enhancement of farmers’ turnover was found to have significant influence on the enhancement in farmers’ turnover from agricultural products. Policy makers in government should provide the enabling environment for the telecommunication companies to enhance their reach by installing their facilities across the length and breadth of the country so that the network coverage will be strong at all times so that the benefits of social media usage will not be constrained. To Assess the Severity and Mortality among Covid 19 Patients after Having Vac...
The severity and mortality of COVID 19 cases has been associated with the Three category such as vaccination status, severity of disease and outcome. Objective presently study was aimed to assess the severity and mortality among covid 19 patients. Methods Using simple lottery random method 100 samples were selected. From these 100 patients, 50 patients were randomly assigned to case group and 50 patients in control group after informed consents of relative obtained. Patients in the case group who being died after got COVID 19 whereas 50 patients in the control group participated who were survive after got infected from COVID 19 patients. Result It has three categories such as a Vaccination status For the vaccination status we have seen 59 patients were not vaccinated and 41 patients was vaccinated out of 100. b Incidence There were 41 patients were vaccinated whereas 59 patients were not vaccinated. c Severity In the case of mortality we selected 50 patients who were died from the Corona and I got to know that out of 50 patients there were 12 24 patients were vaccinated whereas 38 76 patients were non vaccinated. Although for the 50 control survival group total 29 58 patients were vaccinated and 21 42 patients was not vaccinated all graph start. Conclusion we have find out that those people who got vaccinated were less infected and mortality rate very low. A mathematical equation which involves a function and its derivatives is called a differential equation. We consider a real life situation, from this form a mathematical model, solve that model using some mathematical concepts and take interpretation of solution. It is a well known and popular concept in mathematics because of its massive application in real world problems. Differential equations are one of the most important mathematical tools used in modeling problems in Physics, Biology, Economics, Chemistry, Engineering and medical Sciences. Differential equation can describe many situations viz exponential growth and de cay, the population growth of species, the change in investment return over time. We can solve differential equations using classical as well as numerical methods, In this paper we compare numerical methods of solving initial valued first order ordinary differential equations namely Euler method, Improved Euler method, Runge Kutta method and their accuracy level. Evaluation of Different Paving Mixes Using Optimum Stabilizing Content
Bituminous mixes are most commonly used all over the world in flexible pavement construction. It consists of asphalt or bitumen used as a binder and mineral aggregate which are mixed together, laid down in layers and then compacted. Under normal circumstances, conventional bituminous pavements if designed and executed properly perform quite satisfactorily but the performance of bituminous mixes is very poor under various situations. Today’s asphaltic concrete pavements are expected to perform better as they are experiencing increased volume of traffic, increased loads and increased variations in daily or seasonal temperature over what has been experienced in the past. In addition, the performance of bituminous pavements is found to be very poor in moisture induced situations. Considering this a lot of work has been done on use of additives in bituminous mixtures and as well as on modification of bitumen. Research has indicated that the addition of polymers to asphalt binders helps to increase the interfacial cohesiveness of the bond between the aggregate and the binder which can enhance many properties of the asphalt pavements to help meet these increased demands. However, the additive that is to be used for modification of mix or binder should satisfy both the strength requirements as well as economical aspects. The purpose of the study was to assess the effectiveness of a structured teaching module (STM) on the knowledge and practice of the nurses regarding management of patients in the cardio thoracic intensive care unit. The nurse taken for the study belonged mainly to the age group of 21-25 years( 56%) and were single (66%)majority of the nurses were with diploma nursing qualification 72% .majority 65% had 1-3 years of experience and had worked in the cardiac surgery area. The finding of the study revealed that during pretest, the nurses had above average knowledge and practice before the structured teaching .with the implementation of the STM, these was an improvement in both the knowledge and practice of the STM, these was important in both the knowledge and practice of nurses . The technical advancement has made the job of a nurse to evolve continuously. it is the responsibilityofevery nursetoremain updated with the ongoing changes as they will affectthatthe patient. The nurse’s knowledge of each patient’s case effect the nursing practice has for a patient’s care and recovery Worldwide health care system is attempting to respond to the needs. critical care nurses must not only be able to carry out the best research based practice but also identify the patient’s physiological response,makeclinical judgmentand take appropriate and adequate action while ensuring the support system applied are functioning effectively .to be a successful critical care nurse, one must be caring. NEED FOR THE STUDY Congenital cardiovascular malformations in the newborn occur in approximately 40,000 live births each year. About 8% to 3% are serial septal defects 6% to 11% are ductus arteriosus, and 20% to 25% are ventricular septal defects. incidence rates have been studiedinlargepopulationgroups and have varied from 3.7 to 8per 1,000 these rates typically underestimate the true incidence OBJECTIVES 1. To assess the knowledge and practice of staff nurses regarding care of children in the cardio-thoracis intensive care unit (ICU) before implementation of the structured teaching module. 2. To assess the post test knowledge and practicescoresof nurses regarding care of children in the cardio -thoracic ICU after implementation of the structured teaching module. 3. To find out the association betweenthepreandposttest knowledge and practice of staff nurses regardingcareof children in the cardio-thoracic ICU. 4. To find out the association between the post test knowledge and practice of staff nurses demographic variables, regarding care of children in the cardio- thoracic ICU. METHODOLOGY Methodology for the present includesthe researchapproach and design setting of the study population sampling technique development of tools data collection procedure and method of analysis based on the statement of problem and objectives of the study. SETTING OF THE STUDY The study was conducted at central hospital and trauma & heart care center Halwani. POPULATION Population for this study was registered nurses, working in the cardiothoracic ICU in the hospital. SAMPLING Sample size The sample size for this study was 100nursesworkingin the cardio-thoracic intensive care unit of the hospital. SAMPLE TECHNIQUE Purposive sampling technique was used to conduct this study. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF SAMPLE 1. Staff nurses 2. Who were willing to participate in the study . 3. Who had successfully completed any one of the basic nursing programmers and registered. 4. Who were present during the data collection period. 5. Who had work experience foe at least one year in the cardio thorasis ICU. HYPOTHESIS 1. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION Children admitted to the cardiac ICU are predominantly those with congenital heart disease. thus, the hospital which served as the setting for this reputed for cardiac surgeries approximately 12-14surgeries performed per day) where children with congenital heart disease are oftenopratedand post-operative care is given in ICU. Taking care of these children, when they undergo corrective surgeries is a big challenge and nurses have a vital role to play in their recovery.
