CHAPTER-2ND
Presented by Dr. Ankesh Bisla
POPULATION – Asset or Liability
2. Population with proper education & health – form human capital – which work as an
Asset e.g. japan have low natural resource but still a Developed country.
1. Population which lack proper education & necessary medical facility
– liability
e.g. Human capital i.e. high skilled & healthy people tends to increase
productivity in multi-dimension & hence Increased Gross National
Product (GNP) e.g. Green Rev. , White Revolution in IT Sector.
3. Working population(employed or unemployed) &
Dependant population – no such term can be used
e.g. Uneducated & unfit people put economy to disadvantage
e.g. Unemployed people are at more disadvantage as if they were given all facilties i.e. a
huge investment failure
4. Without human resource there is no value of other
resources

LEADS TO
Why so much emphasis on education ?
1. An educated human can be considered an asset for the economy and not a liability.
2. Make better use of economic opportunities. It helps in enhancing the national income, cultural
richness and increases the efficiency of the Government.
3. It enhances individual productivity in terms of quality and quantity.
4. Because being educated can help the economic status of an individual, it also develops the
consciousness towards society.
5. An educated person is also aware about health and hygiene and it will ultimately result in
better health of the people of a country.
Why health of people is so necessary for nation
to grow ?
1. If an individual is healthy, he or she may have better immunity to fight illness
2. Being healthy will also increase the overall outcome of an individual
3. The health of an individual is directly proportional to the work he does. Thus better health
will increase efficiency.
- The above-mentioned points prove that if better health care measures are taken up and
an individual in a country becomes more healthy, the human capital and productivity will
also increase.
