Have you ever had a dream that
was not fulfilled? What did you do
about it?
TASK 1: DREAM LOGS
 In a piece of paper, the teacher asks the students to
answer the question in 2-3 sentences: “What is/are
your dream/s?”
 Paper will then be collected.
TASK 2: WHO OWNS THIS DREAM
 The teacher picks ten answers from the previous
activity, reads it to the class, and as a sort of riddle,
the students guess who among their classmates owns
the dream.
DREAMS DEFERRED

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
TASK 5: DELVE DEEPER
Poem will be analyzed as provided in the powerpoint
presentation.
1. What figure of speech is dominant in the poem?
Why?
2. What imageries are used in the poem? Identify the
lines containing such. In the first slide are pictures
suggestive of the different lines in the poem.
Students pick a picture, identifies the lines that can
be associated and determines the type of imagery
used
FACTS ABOUT THE AUTHOR
 born Feb. 1, 1902
 raised by his grandmother who instilled in him a
sense of racial pride and love for activism
 published 15 books of poetry, number of novels and
short story collections, nonfiction books, plays,
children's books, and more
 was 65 when he died May 22, 1967, of complications
after surgery for prostate cancer
 4. What could be his primary reason in writing the
poem?
 5. What societal issue is being addressed by the
author in the poem? Students will be shown pictures
depicting such problem in the American society
TASK 6: UNDER THE MAGNIFYING
GLASS
 Is discrimination in any form also rampant in the
Philippines? Pictures reflecting the present society
will be shown to the class.
 What do you think do the pictures suggest? What
kind of discrimination is apparent in each picture?
How are these problems being addressed?
TASK 8: UPDATING STATUS
 “You have a dream…
 Yet there also things that may hinder or keep you
from fulfilling those dreams.
 What is your stand on this?”
 The students will be sharing their own thoughts by
using this template as if posting a facebook status.

“Dreams Deferred” by Langston Hughes PPT.pptx

  • 1. Have you ever had a dream that was not fulfilled? What did you do about it?
  • 2. TASK 1: DREAM LOGS  In a piece of paper, the teacher asks the students to answer the question in 2-3 sentences: “What is/are your dream/s?”  Paper will then be collected.
  • 3. TASK 2: WHO OWNS THIS DREAM  The teacher picks ten answers from the previous activity, reads it to the class, and as a sort of riddle, the students guess who among their classmates owns the dream.

  • 7. DREAMS DEFERRED by Langston Hughes What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up Like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore-- And then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over-- like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. Or does it explode?
  • 8. TASK 5: DELVE DEEPER Poem will be analyzed as provided in the powerpoint presentation. 1. What figure of speech is dominant in the poem? Why? 2. What imageries are used in the poem? Identify the lines containing such. In the first slide are pictures suggestive of the different lines in the poem. Students pick a picture, identifies the lines that can be associated and determines the type of imagery used

Pictures reflecting the present society will be shown to the class.  What do you think do the pictures suggest? What kind of discrimination is apparent in each picture? How are these problems being addressed?

  • 23. TASK 8: UPDATING STATUS  “You have a dream…  Yet there also things that may hinder or keep you from fulfilling those dreams.  What is your stand on this?”  The students will be sharing their own thoughts by using this template as if posting a facebook status.
