12. Imagery
Definition:
OImagery refers to the “mental pictures” that
readers experience when reading literature.
OImagery appeals directly to one or more of
the five senses.
OAn author achieves imagery through the use
of words.
13. There are five (5) types of
imagery:
1. Visual – what you see
2. Auditory – what you hear
3. Kinesthetic/Tactile– what you feel
4. Olfactory – what you smell
5. Gustatory – what you taste
14. Examples
1. Visual – The golden rays of the setting sun
reflected upon the clear waters of the lake.
2. Auditory – The trees rustled as the wind whistled
gently through the leaves.
3. Kinesthetic/Tactile – My toes went numb and a
shiver ran through my body as I stepped into the
cold river.
4. Olfactory – The stench of rotting garbage
overpowered my nostrils when I opened the bin.
5. Gustatory – Her mouth watered and her tongue
burned as she bit into the sour, peppery mango
chow.

16. Process Questions:
Pass the Ball Activity: With the
accompaniment of a music, the
learners will pass the ball to each
other. Once the music stops, the
learner who is holding the ball will
be the one to answer the questions
orally to check their
comprehension of the topic.
21. IMAGERY QUIZ
OEach group will be given a
whiteboard marker and an
illustration board where they
have to write their answers on.
The teacher will give sample
lines from a poem/ story and
they had to guess what type of
imagery is present in each item.
22. A VIDEO IMAGERY
Each group will be shown a video of an
item/ idea wherein they had to write a
short paragraph or a poem using the
different types of imagery. Then, they
will share their output to the class.
23. ASSIGNMENT: SPOT THE IMAGERY!
O Music Analysis. The learners will be asked to sing the
song entitled “Green Green Grass of Home” by Tom
Jones. They have to group themselves according to
their interests and present the tasks below. They must
have to identify the imagery in the poem after their
presentation the next day.
O DANCERS: They will perform an interpretative dance of
the song.
O SINGERS: They have to sing the song to the class.
O ARTISTS: They have to create a poster showing the
message of the poem.
O WRITERS/ ACTORS: They will create a roleplay script
that will be performed by the actors.
