Similarities Between The Bible And The Mandrake
The last piece of work that was very interesting is the The Mandrake It is a comedy love story which
happens over a twenty four hour time frame. In the story the protagonist is named Callimaco, who is
swooning over Lucrezia. He had the utmost desire to sleep with Lucrezia but she is the wife of an
elderly prominent gentlemen named Nicia. In the story, Nicia is desriring for Lucrezia to have a son
for him. But Nicia is unable to produce any with Lucrezia. Callimaco conspires with a devilish
marriage broker that is a local priest named Liquirio who masquerades around like a doctor. Liquirio
and Callimaco are working on a devious plan to drug Lucrezio with a plant named Mandrake,
claiming it would increase her fertility. Nicia has also stated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Machiavelli used the phrase to demonstrate to the noblemen that they should either be great allies to
their countries or destroy them. To do this action one had to know what countries or states were
important and dominant or who would become friend or foe of the state. It would appear that Tupac
might have felt the same way from his lyrics showing his fellow gangsters and rap friends how that he
cuddled through the political side of his thug life. Tupac also made connections with middle class and
upper class young people in our society and exposed them to the fragment of America culture that
needed to be repaired. It appears Tupac s political beliefs and philosophy were in tune with our society
s youth as he was top selling rap artist which resulted in his reaching the number six and seven
positions of all time best selling rap

Text and Context
1.) Text Any media item photographs, advertisements, films, magazines, books, websites, television
programs, newspaper articles and so on.
Context Production contexts Finding out the acknowledged motivations of those involved in
production. (pg. 93)
Distribution contexts The two main contexts are space and time, where the text is being read and when

Audience contexts Any reader may hold only hold for a particular audience. (pg. 97)
When looking at the text within a context, different types of contextuality are explore. Production
contexts, distribution contexts, and audience contexts. Production context is the study of how texts are
produced; in this case, looking at this ad, it was not something difficult to create, most likely created
by 1 3 people, printed off and posted. When looking at distribution contexts, space is an important
element. Different types of media are located in different spaces , in this case this poster is located in a
university in order to affect the texts intended meaning. Audience contexts are the study of how
audiences use and make sense of the text. There are two types of audiences in this case, the inscribed
reader and the actual reader. The inscribed reader is who the media is deliberately addressed too,
which in this case is most likely university students, typically ones that consume alcohol. The actual

Jackson s Theory Of The San Francisco Earthquake Of 1906
The San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 devastated citizens from San Francisco. After the disaster, new
technology advanced when detecting earthquakes. Different theories grew from the elastic rebound
theory to the theory that the soil determines the severity of the earthquake. Building developed new
plans to keep buildings from being destroyed by fires. Harry Fielding Reid, a geologist, discovered a
time difference between the preliminary tremors and the regular waves. Reid concluded that the first
set of tremors would have a lower amplitude than the second set of tremors. Time became an essential
part in determining the severity of the earthquake, so more precise instruments of measurement were
needed to help determine earthquakes.
Using this new information, Reid theorized that earthquakes are triggered by a fault slipping. Reid
referred to this process as a elastic rebound . Reid s theory observed that the eastern side of the fault
moved towards the southern region and away from the northern region. When observing the western
side, the results were the opposite. Reid continued his research on this theory by conducting
experiments using deformed jelly with a fault line.
With this information, scientists gained new information about the San Andreas Fault. The San
Andreas fault followed the border of California. The 1906 earthquake rupture started in Shelter Cove
and continued until Grizzly Flat, and the fault line ran through all of these cities. The information

Burnout Self-Test
I work in a customer contact center with about 13 direct reports, who all speak with customers
throughout the day. Typically customers have an issue that needs resolving, which is why they called
into our customer service department. Dealing with a number of hostile customers can produce a great
amount of stress in a work environment, especially when these customers are escalated to supervisors
for assistance. However, the ability to handle stress is a technique that has to be exercised when
dealing with customers, because having that control will assist in retaining customers and providing
them quality customer service. My results from the burnout self test revealed, little sign of burnout
here, unless some factors are particularly severe ( Burnout Test , n.d.). From taking the quiz, I learned
that I am not as overwhelmed as I sometimes feel. I take more control over outcomes than I feel that I
do during stressful times. Sometimes when you are in the mist of stressful times, you can not really
gauge or determine how well you are dealing with situations, but this test helped me but things into a
better perspective. Future steps I will take to ensure stress does not negatively affect my ability to be a

Michelle Randall (2013) explains that delegating is a great way to ensure that more tasks get done in
less time, and it builds team capacity (Randall, 2013). Delegating helps relieve some responsibilities
in areas that do not require close supervision and the opportunity to focus on more important tasks.
Hopefully through delegating I am able to coach and develop my direct reports in being quality
customer service associates that are capable of deescalating issues in a non stressful matter. Focusing
on delegating will eventually create a less stressful environment for all and hopefully increase

The Portrait Of The British Royal And Prince Albert With...
The portrait of the British royal family Queen Victoria and Prince Albert with Five of Their Children
was painted by a German painter named Franz Xaver Winterhal. He was widely known for his
beautiful and elaborated portraits of royal women. The portrait of Queen Victoria and her family is
Wintergal s less well known portrait, but it is still very detailed image. In the artwork, the queen and
the prince are centered with their children surrounding them. Both are dressed in exquisite formal
wear decorated with a blue sash across their chest. Next to Queen Victoria is the young prince dressed
in red garment, who is looking at Prince Albert. On the right side of Prince Albert are two of their
daughters dressed in white dresses who are peering over an infant that is staring at something. While
in front of the queen and prince is another girl that is trying to walk. In the background of the painting,
it shows an open backdrop revealing a cloudy, blue sky with an ocean that stretches out in the
distance. Although this painting is not well known, it still portrays a sense of understanding of the
royal family. In the same context, all paintings or artworks holds its very own importance depending
on the eye of the beholder looking at the artwork, as it will be interpret by what knowledge they have
obtained.
Even though, it is merely a family portrait, this artwork reveals a hidden meaning about the royal
family and their interaction with each other. The artwork portrays the

Comparing Sexuality in Grey s Riders of the Purple Sage...
Sexuality of the Frontierswoman in Grey s Riders of the Purple Sage and Doctorow s Welcome to
Hard Times
The presentation of femininity in Doctorow s Welcome to Hard Times is a strong departure from the
heroine of Zane Grey s Riders of the Purple Sage. Through the metaphor of the gun as the
embodiment of masculinity, both authors closely examine the complexities of the sexualized
relationship of a frontierswoman to the men of her society. Doctorow mirrors the tensions present in
Grey s novel though Molly acts as an extraordinarily different vision of what the West required of a
woman than Jane Withersteen. Both novels reach a sexual climax as the heroine engages the men of
her society in a violent action of blood and birth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book opens with the failure of Blue s manhood. He, bearing the title of Mayor, failed to have both
the courage and the skill to protect the town, especially the women, from the Bad Man. Molly mocks
his failure even as she watches Blue fill the cylinders of [his] gun : Christ that Bad Man s the only
man in town!...I can t believe it...using a lady, for Godsake, marching brave behind a lady s skirts
(Doctorow 16). This moment, with Blue symbolically taking up his manhood and with Molly
simultaneously deriding his status as a man, encompasses much of the tension between the failed
masculinity of the citizens of Hard Times and their feminine counterparts. Ultimately, Blue s gun fails
him and he is saved from the Bad Man s superior skill and ruthlessness only by Molly s struggling and
pulling (19).
Doctorow s portrayal of failed masculinity as the founding sin of Hard Times contrasts strongly with
the more traditional Western. Zane Grey s Riders of the Purple Sage is a close parallel in many ways
to the opening of Welcome to Hard Times. The scene opens with the Bad Man of the piece, Tull,
preparing to whip Venters. Venters failure to defend himself comes as a result of surrendering his guns
to Jane s safekeeping. This symbolic castration leaves him at the mercy of the other men, and leaving
him behind a lady s skirts (Doctorow 16). Jane risks herself and places herself in the enmity of the
community by defending

Theme Of Forbidden Love In Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare wrote a play that is about a forbidden love named Romeo and Juliet. This story
involves a family fued between the Capulets and Montagues. Readers and fans of the play never
thought that a story like this could be true but in Afghanistan it is. Zakia and Ali are forbidden lovers.
Though instead of a family feud. It is a feud between two religions. Zakia is a Sunni and Ali is a
Shiite, also know as the Capulets and Montagues. Religion is playing a huge role in their love. Sunnis
and Shiites go way back causing many feuds. Since they go way back sunni and shiite relgions clash
making their love hard. Sunni Islam is the most populated religion in Afghanistan. Among 940 million

People of the Sunni follow the four schools of religious laws. These contain the ideas of the Hanafi,

Two U.S. Vacation Hot Spots Essay
In all of my travels across the United States of America, the `hottest vacation spot hands down is in
Key West, Florida and the `coolest place to travel to is Denali National Park in Denali, Alaska. These
vacation destinations are the two most beautiful and most relaxing places in the nation! I personally
have experienced a week of enjoyment at both locations and find myself wanting to go back to each of
them in the future because I had such a great time. Even though these are both awesome places to

Since both vacation spots have different climates, they both offer a variety of different activities to do
and adventures to have. In Key West, vacationers are literally surrounded by water and have numerous
water activities to partake in like deep sea fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet
skiing, going to the beach, etc. I would suggest packing your travel bags full of shorts, tee shirts, water
apparel, and extra sunscreen! In the arctic area of Alaska, recreational activities include biking,
climbing, camping, fishing, hiking, winter sports, scenic driving, wildlife viewing, and visiting various
exhibits. Your travel bags for Denali National Park should consist of warm, water resistant clothing,
hiking equipment, camping equipment, and nutritional and energizing camping food.
One of the most important issues about traveling and vacations is the cost and the overall expense of
the trip. From Allentown, Pennsylvania, a round trip ticket for a week to Key West, Florida is going to
cost between four hundred and five hundred dollars, including a rental car and gas. However, a round
trip ticket for a week to Anchorage, Alaska, and also gas and a rental car to drive four hours north to
Denali, is going to be slightly more expensive. It is going to cost between six hundred and nine
hundred dollars to travel. These costs do not even cover food, hotels, or shelter you are going to stay
in. There will also be numerous activity costs like boating, fishing

Thus, it is more important now than at any time in the history of marketing to really understand your
target market and to let this understanding drive not only your marketing decisions, but the entire
decision making framework of the company. (Hiebing Cooper, 2004:4).
Since the preference of customers vary from time to time and meeting their needs, wants and
expectation is an impressive challenge to service providers, strategic thinking of marketing could be
the best way to find the right track as competition is stiffer than the past trend. One to this developing
marketing strategy is crucial in business firms and as Orville C.Walker, Jr., et,al explained the primary
focus of marketing strategy is to effectively allocate and coordinate marketing resources and activities
to accomplish the firms objectives with in a specific product market. Therefore, the critical issue
concerning the scope of a marketing strategy is specifying the target market(s) for a particular product
or product line. Next, firms seek competitive advantage and synergy through a well integrated
program of marketing mix elements (Primarily the 4Ps of product, price, place, promotion) tailored to
the needs and wants of potential customers in that target market. (2004:12).
As the study of this paper is attributed to service providing firms like Tikur Abay Transport Share
Company it would be vital to examine the behavior of business service from theoretical point of view.

The Stroop Effect
Abstract
The aim of this experiment was to test cognitive interference. The Stroop Effect is the finding that
naming words is easier than stating the color of the word. The Stroop Effect was first conducted in
1935 by John Ridley Stroop which was published in the Studies of interference in serial verbal
reactions . This experiment was replicated by asking 40 participants to complete two different tasks.
Task one involved reading words printed in different colors. The second task was to read the color of
the printed word. Participants were timed while conducting task one and two. This experiment had a
repeated measure and the participants included 20 girls and 20 boys. The independent variable was
reading the test paper during both tasks. The dependent variable was the time it would take to
complete task one and task two. Participants were asked to read the test paper as fast as they ... Show

The results of our replicated experiment show that just simply reading the word did not take as long as
reading the color of the word. In this experiment, we chose to compare reading the word versus
reading the color because we felt it was more ecologically valid and acted as a better comparison to
understand the Stroop effect. The first reason as to why reading the color of the word takes longer is
because of selective attention theory which explains that naming the actual color of the word requires
more attention than simply reading the word. Interference is another important concept to consider
which occurs when someone sees the words, they see both the color and its meaning and this creates
conflict in your mind. Based on our schema, we know that reading the actual word is more important
than reading the color. Inference shows that you are not always in control of what you are able to pay
attention to, this occur when you try and focus on the color of the

Female And Female Gender Roles
Literature throughout history has displayed to us the evolution of the male and female gender roles in
society. Women have been described as the angel in the house, whilst men are typified as dominant
and prevailing in comparison to women. The gothic genre in literature is used to personify and
exaggerate these stereotypes, by using gothic motifs such as dream sequences and themes such as
horror and terror. Not only does the gothic exaggerate the stereotypes, but it also allows them to be
contravened, due to the transgressive nature of the genre. The psychoanalytical aspect of this genre,
allows for repressed desires to be made eminent and therefore characters can transgress and in the
process, cross their contemporary gender boundaries. Keats uses the gothic device of Negative
capability in order to conceal the transgression of the females in his poetry, Carter revised gothic
fairytales in order to display them from a feminist approach and Stoker uses gothic themes, set against
the backdrop of the fluidity of Fin de siècle period, to allow characters to stray from their gender
stereotypes.
Victorian women were supposed to be both selflessly devoted, to their children and submissive, to
their husbands, according to Coventry Patmore. However due to the trepidation of sexual mayhem that
arose during the nineteenth century, society retaliated by recoiling from the idea of a woman having
any sexual emancipation. This response was typical of the Fin de Siècle period and

Why Do Criminogenic Environments Cause Crime
As define in Criminology, criminogenic environments are communities generally higher in
neighborhoods with lower levels of social integration (71). Structural factors that include: age, gender
and race are mostly related in communities where socio economic and class status are affected by.
Low income neighborhoods contribute to individuals to be involve in crime. As described on our book
scholars say that kinds of places matter more than kinds of people (134). This view refers to that the
people do not cause crime but rather the place where individuals reside is the one causing the crime.
The living situation in urban neighborhoods is a common association between teenagers and other
adults to be exposed to crime. Some individuals who are not criminals and that are connected to this
environment may be equally exposed to criminal behavior. The result to this is that in many urban
areas, individuals are exposed to crime and criminal behavior in this communities. The result of
Crimimogenic in urban neighborhoods is the result in anomie were individuals loose their group
ethical standard. The individual adapts to their socio economic environment and choose the life of
crime. Other view to criminogenic is the disorganization theory, these problems involve structural
conditions at the general level that generate deviance (137). There have been many studies in how an

Economic Evaluation Essay
The change in health profiles of the population and the evolution of medical technology have made
more explicit the gap between what medicine can do and what is economically feasible (Fuchs, 2000).
Resources to satisfy needs are scarce and every society must decide how better to allocate the scarce
resource among the different alternative uses. Economics tries to address the normative question of
which allocation of resources is best for the society. The answer to such question depends crucially on
the objective being pursued. When comparing different alternatives, under the classical assumptions of
competitive markets (the Arrow Debreu economy) and Pareto efficiency, a reallocation is said to be
efficient if no one in the economy is made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the so called Hicks Kaldor criterion, which allows making judgements about policies without
making inter personal comparisons. However, there are two problems with this criterion: marginal
utility of income must be the same across individuals and it may be the case that a movement back to
the original allocation increase welfare, so it would be impossible to define which allocation is better.
Also, the information that would be needed to collect makes the application of this criterion quite
infeasible.
This is the theoretical basis for many cost benefit studies in health care that rely on methods like
contingent valuation to measure benefits from health care interventions. If this is the theoretical basis
for cost benefit analysis, it means the acceptance of Pareto optimality concept and its related
distributional implications. Individual utility is what is being maximised and individuals are assumed
to be the best judges of their own welfare.
Given the limitations of the welfarist approach, some have argued to rely on explicit welfare functions
to aggregate individuals preferences and explicitly address the issues of distribution, but as Arrow
demonstrated, it is impossible to aggregate individual preferences in a coherent way. Working on the

Use of language and Word Choice in My Last Duchess Essay
My Last Duchess by Robert Browning is a dramatic monologue in which the Duke of Ferrara is
discussing the matter of a dowry with an emissary sent by a Count. The use of dramatic monologue
allows the poet to subtly reveal the personality of the persona to the reader.
The language used by the speaker allows the poet to evoke strong emotions in the reader.
The reader is given an early insight into the personality of the Duke in the very first line of the
monologue:
That s my last Duchess painted on the wall
This early impression portrays the Duke as a very sophisticated man with a wealth of knowledge in
art. This impression is continued when he mentions the very artist who painted the Duchess, Fra
Pandolf .
However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This manner is not only continued, but emphasised further still when the Duke reverts to the subject of
money, discussing the situation with the
dowry . This shows how superficial and indeed shameful a person the
Duke is.
This shameful personality is brought out further still by the poet s use of rhyme and rhythm, the very
heart of the poem. The poet s use of style represents the Duke himself the poem has many example of
rhyme, for example Paint and Faint and, Durst and First this would suggest that the persona was
articulate. However, this is shown to be nothing more than a façade in the way in which the lines of
the poem run together, showing that the poet is not as skilled in language as he would like to make
out:
but/thanked/Somehow
The Duke here is seen to be struggling to express himself, showing his lack of skill in language and
emphasising that he has tried to create a false impression of himself. Even the rhythm of the poem,
iambic pentameter, which is very regular and basic, reflects the simplicity of the speaker himself, in
terms of his linguistic ability. The manner in which the Duke tries to cover up this limited ability
emphasises his superficiality.
However, it is the poet s clever use of word choice which is most effective in revealing the Duke s
personality.

Kidney Injury And Hormonal Failure
The kidneys play host to a variety of different important functions in our bodies. The kidney s primary
function is the removal of toxins, which is excreted in the form of urine. The second extremely
important role of the kidneys is maintaining the body s acid base balance. This is balance is
maintained by the excretion of fixed acids and the reabsorption of bicarbonate. The hormonal
functions of the kidneys include the regulation of blood pressure and the manufacturing of red blood
cells.
As critical care nurses, why should we be concerned about acute kidney injury (AKI)? How about a
few statistics to help you answer this question. Approximately 5 % of all hospitalized patients will

There are a variety of options for anticoagulation in CRRT patients. Heparin is the least expensive and
drug with the shortest half life, which is why it is the preferred method of anticoagulation. Heparin
does require frequent PTT monitoring and dose adjustments. The disadvantages to heparin use are
increased bleeding risk and thrombocytopenia. For those patients who develop heparin induced
thrombocytopenia (HIT), the use of a direct thrombin inhibitor is recommended. Argatroban and
Lepirudin are the two direct thrombin inhibitors of choice. Deciding between the two is based on
patient history, current medical condition and method of CRRT used. Argatroban is eliminated by the
liver, whereas Lepirudin is eliminated by the kidneys and may not be used in patients with AKI. For
those patients with an allergy to Heparin, the use of citrate is an option. Citrate binds to calcium in the
patients blood within the CRRT circuit and will help prolong circuit life. Citrate requires monitoring
of labs, specifically ionized calcium, sodium and acid base status. Citrate is contraindicated in patients
with hepatic failure or with lactic acidosis. When the use of anticoagulates are contraindicated, sodium
chloride is used. Small boluses, approximately 100 200 milliliters, are used to flush the CRRT circuit.
These fluid boluses are used to reduce the stagnation of blood in the

Summary Of The Sunflower
An Analysis of The Sunflower The Holocaust was a genocide that occurred from 1933 1945, and one
of its survivors was Simon Wiesenthal. After he was set free from the concentration camp, he
dedicated his life to finding Nazi war criminals and persecuting them in court. Later on in his life, he
wrote a memoir, The Sunflower. It was about one of his many experiences at the Lemberg
concentration camp where he got roped into listening to a dying SS soldier, Karl. Right before
Wiesenthal left Karl s room, Karl asked Wiesenthal, on behalf of all the Jews he persecuted, for
forgiveness. Wiesenthal left Karl s room without forgiving him, and then asked his readers, What
would I have done? At the end of The Sunflower, people who Wiesenthal picked to respond to his
question, had their answers published. The most interesting response was Jose Hobday s. Hobday
believed that Wiesenthal should have forgiven to Karl because it would have given Karl a sense of
peace, making it easier for him to pass on. Hobday had the correct answer to Wiesenthal s question
because even though all of the Jews that Karl persecuted are dead and will not be able to forgive him
in person, Karl just wanted someone to know that he was sorry for his actions. Jose Hobday was a
Franciscan nun of Seneca, Iroquois, and Seminole descent. She wrote about Catholic and Native
American spirituality, and her writings appeared in many publications such as Parabola, Cross

The thyroid gland is an integral part of the endocrine system in the human body. The thyroid gland
secretes the thyroid hormone, which plays an important role in the growth of the body. The thyroid is

thyroid gland are thyroxine and triidothyronine. Both of these hormones help the body grow after
birth, and they also aid tissues increase their oxygen use within these tissues. The thyroid gland

You can also opt to have your thyroid surgically removed because the medication can t be tolerated by
your body or because you do not want to take the radioactive iodine. In the United States, thyroid
conditions affect nearly 30 million Americans, and yet more than half of them remain undiagnosed,
Dr. Simona Scumpia (2006) warns. The disease is more common than diabetes or heart disease.
Thyroid conditions can lead a person to develop other health problems, such as heart disease, high
cholesterol, osteoporosis, and depression. Dr. Simona Scumpia, Medical Director of the Austin
Thyroid and Endocrinology Center, explains: Because the symptoms of thyroidism can be associated
with commonly occurring conditions, it is extremely important that people who have the symptoms be
checked with a test known as a TSH test. The TSH test, or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone test, is a
simple blood test that measures the thyroid gland s condition. My mother, Connie L. Gullion, suffers
from Hashimoto s syndrome. Connie was diagnosed with the disease in her mid 30 s. Connie s doctor
had her look at a list of symptoms and asked her to let him know which ones she was experiencing.

physician, radiologist, musician and novelist Rudolph Fisher was coupled with the Harlem

American men could get ahead in the urban north if they united to overcome distrust bred by spans of
oppression. World War I shaped a transformation for African Americans from the old to the new , also
known during that time period as The New Negro Movement. Thousands relocated from the rural
South to the industrial North, following a vision of social and economic opportunity. This movement
of the 1920s promoted a rehabilitated sense of racial pride, cultural self expression, economic
independence, and progressive politics. Described within Rudolph Fisher s article The Caucasian

Goulburn Valley Industry Analysis
Introduction
Within the Murray Darling Basin, Goulburn Valley is one of the major fruit production regions in
Australia (Libby Dixon 2011). 35% of the fruits and vegetables in Australia are grown in this region
due to the fertile soils and ideal climate (Hume Regional Management Forum, Department of Planning
and Community Development Urban Development Division 2010). In addition, the establishment of
SPC Ardmona has resulted in the significant growth of economy and employment within the region
(Department of Agriculture 2011).
However, due to economic issues SPC Ardmona has reduced fruits demand from the fruit growers
(Gavalakis 2013). For instance, the rise in Australian dollar leads to a lower cost in outsourcing than

The results show that some imports of stone and pone fruits from other countries are competitive to
the local fruit growers (RMCG 2013). Furthermore, the high dependency on Asia market drives the

2013). It also shows that fruits imports exceeded the fruit export from 2009 to 2012 (Department of
Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry 2013). Thus, it is necessary for the Goulburn Valley fruit growers

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Youth
Introduction A violent video game is defined as a video game where the range of options available to a
player includes killing, maiming, dismembering, or sexually assaulting an image of a human being
(Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2010). For many years there has been increasing concern by the
general public, policy makers and social scientists as to whether or not violent video games have a
negative influence on the behaviour of youth. With the popularity of the gaming culture growing
dramatically amongst children and adolescences; the marketing of violent video games to youth has
become increasingly successful, allowing such games to become more easily obtainable regardless of
age (Anderson et al 2007). Consequently, the increase has raised the question of exactly what impact
exposure to these highly graphic games has on the younger generation; resulting in a range of research
and studies to continue to take place on the subject. It has become the norm in most modern societies
to associate violent video games as a considerable cause to the violent and aggressive outbursts of
youth (Ferguson 2010). Some even go as far as connecting some crimes committed by young people
as a result of their exposure to violent video games. While others claim there is no link between
violent video games and negative youth behaviour; some suggesting that violent video games have a
positive impact on the behaviour of youth. The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of

Political Stereotypes In Scandal
The political thriller Scandal which began airing in 2012 has become an immensely popular television
show. The protagonist Olivia Pope is portrayed by the actress Kerry Washington. Olivia Pope is a
crisis manager who runs her own firm, Pope Associates, which specializes in managing political
situations and making the problems of the elite go away. Scandal, challenges the mainstream blueprint
used to construct most television shows in Western society. Primarily, Scandal breaks down
stereotypes of African Americans and females in general in society. There are many ways in which
Scandal achieves these goals. Scandal has a diverse cast of characters normally not portraited on
television. The characters do not conform to the stereotypes that have made other similar characters
successful. Scandals also uses on screen and off screen choices that contrast choices typically made by
the television industry. Through these different choices Scandal portrays African Americans and
women on television in a way which is far from common in the industry.
Television is widely considered a more racial and gender friendly medium of popular culture.
However, prime time television is not nearly as progressive as people believe, and is still a male
dominated industry. In a report done by the Institute for Diversity and Empowerment at Annenberg,
11,306 speaking characters were evaluated and 66.5% were male, while 33.5% were female [1].
Moreover, 41.6% of females in television took leading or

Staphylococcus Aureus, Or Mrsa
Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA is a possibly fatal strain of Staph aureus that is
resistant to many antibiotics. MRSA is unable to be killed by all beta lactam antibiotics. This includes
all penicillin s and cephalosporin s. There are two known type of MRSA. The most common type is
nosocomial MRSA or HA MRSA. Which is a strain found in hospitals, nursing homes, ect. The
second type is community acquired MRSA or CA MRSA. This strain of MRSA infects individuals
who have not been in a hospital setting and are typically quite healthy (Minnesota Department of
Health). With each type there are differences and the ways they are transmitted. When it comes to the
nosocomial MRSA hospitalized patients are at higher risk for becoming infected. Many hospitalized
patients have IVs, catheters, and surgical openings that make them very susceptible to becoming
infected. The bacteria can enter into underlying tissue and it becomes very easy for the patients to
become infected. Also, quite a few patients are taking some sort of antibiotic and this reduces the
natural flora of the body and that makes it easy for the bacteria to enter the body and cause an
infection. Some of the signs and symptoms of patients with HA MRSA includes: abscesses, cellulitis,
or other skin and soft tissue infections. Most of the abscesses are filled with pus, red swollen area
surrounding it, and also may be warm to the touch (Minnesota Department of Health). The abscess is

The Recent Engagement of Contemporary Islamic Thought with Modernity in the West
Modernization theory has been one of the master theoretical narratives to understand the major
institutional and cultural transformation from traditional societies to modern ones. It was developed by
the founders of sociology and has dominated the widespread understanding and explanations of many
social differentiation processes including rationalization, individualization, urbanization, and
secularization for several decades. Thus, sociologists believed that the consequences of modernization

They suggest that we should re systematize and correct the classical theory of modernization in the
light of multiple modernities frameworks because multiple modernities do not assume that global
modernity is derived from the West as a single pattern (source) and describe the possibility of a plural
modernity experiences. In fact, there are many modernities, not only one single patter of
modernization. These developments forced sociologists for a paradigm shift in the dominant one side
understanding of western modernity.
In this context, Islam and the discourse of western Muslim intellectuals have gradually gained
visibility and significance through the continuing migration and the growth of new generations in the
western societies. Western Islam also has emerged in the hearth of modernity; yet did not follow the
same patters of classical modernization trends. However, it could not escape the hegemonic influence
of modernity. As a result, western Islam is emerging not only as a response to the challenges
(premises) of modernity, but also through a transformative dialectical engagement with the ethos of
modernity, which gradually pave the path towards the rise of Islamic modernism (Islamic modernity)
in the west. Hence, the multiple modernities thesis serves as a more adequate theoretical approach
than the prevailing modernization, the secularization perspective or many other approaches to

Imagery In Devil In The White City
In the nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson uses Imagery, dark tone, and
oxymorons to portray H. H. Holmes, whose point of view is half of the story, as the Devil incarnate:
evil and subhuman. Larson utilizes imagery to exemplify Holmes character and actions to the
audience. He describes Holmes reaction to a friend s sister s death to give the reader an idea of the
cold inhumanity he possesed. Even though Holmes told Ned how sorry he was about her passing, yet
in his eyes there was only a flat blue calm like that of a lake on a still August morning (123). Larson
presents this imagery to give the reader a clear view of Holmes point of view on death. When he reacts
with such a flat blue calm, the reader can clearly see that he did not posses even the slightest bit of
sincerity. This serves to help the reader see the surface, and allude to what lies beneath. Larson further
proves his inhumanity with the portrayal of Holmes murder of his pregnant fiancée, Julia. Holmes
promised he would marry her, but with the condition that she had to allow him to execute an abortion.
He then held the cloth coated in chloroform over her nose and mouth and within seconds her eyes
fluttered and rolled upwards followed by the inevitable, reflexive disturbance of muscles, like a dream
of running (148). Larson uses words like flutter and rolled to show the reader that her consciousness
fled from her with no objection from her being noted. This is to

Phones And Driving
Cell phone use continue to spread like wild fire for many Americans. Cellphones are a part of
everyday life and people depend on them to carry out daily operations and perform numerous task.
Unfortunately, many cell phone operations occur while driving, as a result fatal car accidents take
place daily. Distracted drivers using cell phones has joined alcohol and speeding as a leading factor in
fatal and serious injuries. According to the National Safety Council, cell phone use is involved in more
than a quarter of all vehicle crashes (Newswire, 2017). Parents are no longer at ease as their teens
obtain learners permit and begin driving among millions of distracted drivers on their cell phone. The
situation has heighten over the years to the point of adults being distracted and driving just as careless
as teenagers. It appears like drivers are ignoring the risk taken by using their cell phones while
driving. Major highway changes need to be made as soon as possible by the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration. The safety of millions of American motorists should be considered more
important than the convenience of using a cell phone and lawmakers should put a bill in place to
completely ban cell phone usage while driving to limit countless accidents on highways. Despite
offering huge benefits, cell phones have become a grave concern and a major cause of road accidents.

To do this action one had to know what countries or states were important and dominant or who would become friend or foe of the state. It would appear that Tupac might have felt the same way from his lyrics showing his fellow gangsters and rap friends how that he cuddled through the political side of his thug life. Tupac also made connections with middle class and upper class young people in our society and exposed them to the fragment of America culture that needed to be repaired. It appears Tupac s political beliefs and philosophy were in tune with our society s youth as he was top selling rap artist which resulted in his reaching the number six and seven positions of all time best selling rap ... • 4. Jackson s Theory Of The San Francisco Earthquake Of 1906 The San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 devastated citizens from San Francisco. After the disaster, new technology advanced when detecting earthquakes. Different theories grew from the elastic rebound theory to the theory that the soil determines the severity of the earthquake. Building developed new plans to keep buildings from being destroyed by fires. Harry Fielding Reid, a geologist, discovered a time difference between the preliminary tremors and the regular waves. Reid concluded that the first set of tremors would have a lower amplitude than the second set of tremors. Time became an essential part in determining the severity of the earthquake, so more precise instruments of measurement were needed to help determine earthquakes. Using this new information, Reid theorized that earthquakes are triggered by a fault slipping. Reid referred to this process as a elastic rebound . Reid s theory observed that the eastern side of the fault moved towards the southern region and away from the northern region. When observing the western side, the results were the opposite. Reid continued his research on this theory by conducting experiments using deformed jelly with a fault line. With this information, scientists gained new information about the San Andreas Fault. The San Andreas fault followed the border of California. The 1906 earthquake rupture started in Shelter Cove and continued until Grizzly Flat, and the fault line ran through all of these cities. • 5. Burnout Self-Test I work in a customer contact center with about 13 direct reports, who all speak with customers throughout the day. Typically customers have an issue that needs resolving, which is why they called into our customer service department. Dealing with a number of hostile customers can produce a great amount of stress in a work environment, especially when these customers are escalated to supervisors for assistance. However, the ability to handle stress is a technique that has to be exercised when dealing with customers, because having that control will assist in retaining customers and providing them quality customer service. My results from the burnout self test revealed, little sign of burnout here, unless some factors are particularly severe ( Burnout Test , n.d.). From taking the quiz, I learned that I am not as overwhelmed as I sometimes feel. I take more control over outcomes than I feel that I do during stressful times. Sometimes when you are in the mist of stressful times, you can not really gauge or determine how well you are dealing with situations, but this test helped me but things into a better perspective. Future steps I will take to ensure stress does not negatively affect my ability to be a productive and effective employee is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The portrait of the British royal family Queen Victoria and Prince Albert with Five of Their Children was painted by a German painter named Franz Xaver Winterhal. He was widely known for his beautiful and elaborated portraits of royal women. The portrait of Queen Victoria and her family is Wintergal s less well known portrait, but it is still very detailed image. In the artwork, the queen and the prince are centered with their children surrounding them. Both are dressed in exquisite formal wear decorated with a blue sash across their chest. Next to Queen Victoria is the young prince dressed in red garment, who is looking at Prince Albert. On the right side of Prince Albert are two of their daughters dressed in white dresses who are peering over an infant that is staring at something. While in front of the queen and prince is another girl that is trying to walk. • 10. Comparing Sexuality in Grey s Riders of the Purple Sage... Sexuality of the Frontierswoman in Grey s Riders of the Purple Sage and Doctorow s Welcome to Hard Times The presentation of femininity in Doctorow s Welcome to Hard Times is a strong departure from the heroine of Zane Grey s Riders of the Purple Sage. Through the metaphor of the gun as the embodiment of masculinity, both authors closely examine the complexities of the sexualized relationship of a frontierswoman to the men of her society. Doctorow mirrors the tensions present in Grey s novel though Molly acts as an extraordinarily different vision of what the West required of a woman than Jane Withersteen. Both novels reach a sexual climax as the heroine engages the men of her society in a violent action of blood and birth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book opens with the failure of Blue s manhood. He, bearing the title of Mayor, failed to have both the courage and the skill to protect the town, especially the women, from the Bad Man. Molly mocks his failure even as she watches Blue fill the cylinders of [his] gun : Christ that Bad Man s the only man in town!...I can t believe it...using a lady, for Godsake, marching brave behind a lady s skirts (Doctorow 16). This moment, with Blue symbolically taking up his manhood and with Molly simultaneously deriding his status as a man, encompasses much of the tension between the failed masculinity of the citizens of Hard Times and their feminine counterparts. Ultimately, Blue s gun fails him and he is saved from the Bad Man s superior skill and ruthlessness only by Molly s struggling and pulling (19). Doctorow s portrayal of failed masculinity as the founding sin of Hard Times contrasts strongly with the more traditional Western. Zane Grey s Riders of the Purple Sage is a close parallel in many ways to the opening of Welcome to Hard Times. The scene opens with the Bad Man of the piece, Tull, preparing to whip Venters. Venters failure to defend himself comes as a result of surrendering his guns to Jane s safekeeping. This symbolic castration leaves him at the mercy of the other men, and leaving him behind a lady s skirts (Doctorow 16). These vacation destinations are the two most beautiful and most relaxing places in the nation! I personally have experienced a week of enjoyment at both locations and find myself wanting to go back to each of them in the future because I had such a great time. In Key West, vacationers are literally surrounded by water and have numerous water activities to partake in like deep sea fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing, going to the beach, etc. I would suggest packing your travel bags full of shorts, tee shirts, water apparel, and extra sunscreen! In the arctic area of Alaska, recreational activities include biking, climbing, camping, fishing, hiking, winter sports, scenic driving, wildlife viewing, and visiting various exhibits. Your travel bags for Denali National Park should consist of warm, water resistant clothing, hiking equipment, camping equipment, and nutritional and energizing camping food. One of the most important issues about traveling and vacations is the cost and the overall expense of the trip. From Allentown, Pennsylvania, a round trip ticket for a week to Key West, Florida is going to cost between four hundred and five hundred dollars, including a rental car and gas. However, a round trip ticket for a week to Anchorage, Alaska, and also gas and a rental car to drive four hours north to Denali, is going to be slightly more expensive. It is going to cost between six hundred and nine hundred dollars to travel. These costs do not even cover food, hotels, or shelter you are going to stay in. The Stroop Effect was first conducted in 1935 by John Ridley Stroop which was published in the Studies of interference in serial verbal reactions . This experiment was replicated by asking 40 participants to complete two different tasks. Task one involved reading words printed in different colors. The second task was to read the color of the printed word. Participants were timed while conducting task one and two. This experiment had a repeated measure and the participants included 20 girls and 20 boys. The independent variable was reading the test paper during both tasks. The dependent variable was the time it would take to complete task one and task two. Participants were asked to read the test paper as fast as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results of our replicated experiment show that just simply reading the word did not take as long as reading the color of the word. In this experiment, we chose to compare reading the word versus reading the color because we felt it was more ecologically valid and acted as a better comparison to understand the Stroop effect. The first reason as to why reading the color of the word takes longer is because of selective attention theory which explains that naming the actual color of the word requires more attention than simply reading the word. Interference is another important concept to consider which occurs when someone sees the words, they see both the color and its meaning and this creates conflict in your mind. Based on our schema, we know that reading the actual word is more important than reading the color. Inference shows that you are not always in control of what you are able to pay attention to, this occur when you try and focus on the color of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Female And Female Gender Roles Literature throughout history has displayed to us the evolution of the male and female gender roles in society. Women have been described as the angel in the house, whilst men are typified as dominant and prevailing in comparison to women. The gothic genre in literature is used to personify and exaggerate these stereotypes, by using gothic motifs such as dream sequences and themes such as horror and terror. Not only does the gothic exaggerate the stereotypes, but it also allows them to be contravened, due to the transgressive nature of the genre. The psychoanalytical aspect of this genre, allows for repressed desires to be made eminent and therefore characters can transgress and in the process, cross their contemporary gender boundaries. Keats uses the gothic device of Negative capability in order to conceal the transgression of the females in his poetry, Carter revised gothic fairytales in order to display them from a feminist approach and Stoker uses gothic themes, set against the backdrop of the fluidity of Fin de siècle period, to allow characters to stray from their gender stereotypes. Victorian women were supposed to be both selflessly devoted, to their children and submissive, to their husbands, according to Coventry Patmore. However due to the trepidation of sexual mayhem that arose during the nineteenth century, society retaliated by recoiling from the idea of a woman having any sexual emancipation. Why Do Criminogenic Environments Cause Crime As define in Criminology, criminogenic environments are communities generally higher in neighborhoods with lower levels of social integration (71). Structural factors that include: age, gender and race are mostly related in communities where socio economic and class status are affected by. Low income neighborhoods contribute to individuals to be involve in crime. As described on our book scholars say that kinds of places matter more than kinds of people (134). This view refers to that the people do not cause crime but rather the place where individuals reside is the one causing the crime. The living situation in urban neighborhoods is a common association between teenagers and other adults to be exposed to crime. Some individuals who are not criminals and that are connected to this environment may be equally exposed to criminal behavior. The result to this is that in many urban areas, individuals are exposed to crime and criminal behavior in this communities. Economic Evaluation Essay The change in health profiles of the population and the evolution of medical technology have made more explicit the gap between what medicine can do and what is economically feasible (Fuchs, 2000). Resources to satisfy needs are scarce and every society must decide how better to allocate the scarce resource among the different alternative uses. Economics tries to address the normative question of which allocation of resources is best for the society. The answer to such question depends crucially on the objective being pursued. When comparing different alternatives, under the classical assumptions of competitive markets (the Arrow Debreu economy) and Pareto efficiency, a reallocation is said to be efficient if no one in the economy is made ... Also, the information that would be needed to collect makes the application of this criterion quite infeasible. This is the theoretical basis for many cost benefit studies in health care that rely on methods like contingent valuation to measure benefits from health care interventions. If this is the theoretical basis for cost benefit analysis, it means the acceptance of Pareto optimality concept and its related distributional implications. Individual utility is what is being maximised and individuals are assumed to be the best judges of their own welfare. Given the limitations of the welfarist approach, some have argued to rely on explicit welfare functions to aggregate individuals preferences and explicitly address the issues of distribution, but as Arrow demonstrated, it is impossible to aggregate individual preferences in a coherent way. The reader is given an early insight into the personality of the Duke in the very first line of the monologue: That s my last Duchess painted on the wall This early impression portrays the Duke as a very sophisticated man with a wealth of knowledge in art. The poet s use of style represents the Duke himself the poem has many example of rhyme, for example Paint and Faint and, Durst and First this would suggest that the persona was articulate. For many years there has been increasing concern by the general public, policy makers and social scientists as to whether or not violent video games have a negative influence on the behaviour of youth. With the popularity of the gaming culture growing dramatically amongst children and adolescences; the marketing of violent video games to youth has become increasingly successful, allowing such games to become more easily obtainable regardless of age (Anderson et al 2007).
