How The Media Portrays Multiple Different Political Issues
In this paper I will be introducing the credible sources that will be used in my final presentation of my
chosen topic, the reasons I chose these sources, and their relevance to my presentation. The topic of
my paper is How the Media Portrays Multiple Different Political Issues . I will investigate different
political issues we as a country face today and use my chosen sources to obtain a better understanding
of reporting and the biases that each different network holds. I chose the topic How the Media
Portrays Multiple Different Political Issues because this is something that affects us Americans
everyday, the biases and the way a story is portrayed can affect our understanding of a topic and how

The headline was titled On Terrorism and Tourism: Americans Alter Travel Plans. The article
described the horror throughout the region immediately following the attack and cautioned Americans
against international travel. The article went on to describe how the American dollar was also
declining in value, although this was stated much later in the article, as if it was an afterthought. This
shows how terrorism will almost always beat out other important topics due to its alarmist reaction
and emotional reaction by an audience these types of stories are more likely to receive a better rating
as well. I believe that after reviewing this source, The New York Times has an obligation to report
truthful accounts of these incidences in which terror takes place however the alarmist fashion these
stories are reported in often times before information has been confirmed spreads terror far beyond the
affected regions aiming to hit everyone close to home. This is done with the hope that they will be the
first to break the story and thus boost ratings. With this said many stations have been known to leave
reports open ended to increase suspense and to keep viewers watching and on edge. I chose this source
because I found it very relevant to my topic and how media chooses which stories they believe are the
most important. The next source I found relevant and useful is a book by Shanto Lyengar

John Fitzgerald Kennedy s Politics And World Affairs
John Fitzgerald Kennedy, nicknamed Jack, was born on May 29, 1917. He was the second of 9 to be
born to Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy and Joseph Kennedy Jr. While Jack was at Harvard in 1937, his
father became the United States Ambassador to England. That sparked Jack s interest in politics and
world affairs. From then on, he strived to learn more about government and current events. When Jack
was a senior at Harvard, WWII began. He wrote a thesis about why Great Britain was not ready for
the war with Germany, which went on to be published as a book called Why England Slept. Jack s
career in politics, though, began after college in 1946 when he was elected to the eleventh

One of Kennedy s accomplishments was the creation of the Peace Corps on March 1, 1961. During his
presidential campaign, Kennedy gave a speech at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to a crowd
of 10,000. In his speech, he asked how many of the aspiring doctors, technicians, and/or engineers
would be willing to work in the Foreign Service and travel the world. After the speech, 1,000 students
wanting to live and work abroad signed a petition saying such. This event was the inspiration for the
Peace Corps. Kennedy spoke of a peace corps of talented men and women who would dedicate
themselves to the progress and peace of developing countries two weeks later in a speech at the Cow
Palace in San Francisco. A response of more than 25,000 letters encouraged Kennedy to make the
Peace Corps a reality. When Kennedy became president, he decided he wanted to put his brother in
law, R. Sargent Shriver, as the director of a Peace Corps Task Force to organize it and get everything
together. Shriver did so by creating seven steps to follow in forming the Peace Corps in February of
1961. During the first trip after the Peace Corps was established, leaders from India, Ghana, and
Burma were asking for Peace Corps volunteers to be placed

Albert Einstein Research Paper
Albert Einstein, who was born on March 14, 1879 and passed away on April 18, 1955 was a German
theoretical physicist who invented and developed the method of relativity, one of the two pillars of the
modern physics. He is best known for his mass energy formula E = mc2, which has been dubbed the
world s most famous equation . He received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his services to
physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect ,a important step in the
development of explanation.
Einstein first proposed a special explanation of relativity in 1905 in his paper, On the Electrode This
life research. He was convinced of the good qualities of general relativity because it allowed for a
more (very close to the truth or true number) (statement about a possible future event) of planetary
orbits around the sun, which fell short in Isaac Newton s explanation (of why something works or
happens the way it does), and for a more big and wide, detailed and thoughtful explanation of how
(related to gravity) forces worked. Einstein s statements were promised/stated as true via (instances of

The Ones Who Walk Away From The Omelas By Ursula Le Guin
A dream of ignorance The short story The ones who walk away from the Omelas by Ursula Le Guin
does a great job of criticizing the flaws of a capitalist society. What this means is that she talks about
how it has become a standard for someone to become happy at the expense of others. In order to
demonstrate this she presents a society that guarantees eternal happiness at the expense of a single
child who must suffer through it all. The characters are faced with two choices which would be to stay
and accept the child s fate or to walk away and leave for the mountains. Both of these choices do not
involve helping the child but rather abandoning it in both circumstances. This is a criticism of how
people in reality typically treat those who are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Le Guin s exploitation of this in her writing gives us a clear indication of her intended audience. This
once again justifies my theory as to why Omelas is based off of a dream she once had. What the dream
did was remind of her that there are people out there suffering and being completely ignored. The fact
that she contributed towards the continuation of such suffering ultimately inspired her to push for
change in public awareness. An important method that Le Guin uses is to maintain respect by not
acting angry to the general public. If she was calling out individuals disrespectfully then she herself
would be subject to criticism as well. This is why she turns to writing due to past difficulties with
public activism. While she did help influence a few people to help spread the word, she gained more
public criticism as people found her too demanding(jstor.org). Therefore she switched to becoming an
activist through writing literature. Switching through this method has helped gain widespread respect
while further popularizing her cause. An interesting fact about this short and the poverty rate in the
Unites States there seems to be a positive correlation in terms of reducing it. The story was written in
the year 1973 and the poverty rate has reduced by a seven percent(the nation.org). While there is

History of Free Trade Agreements
Free trade assignment
For thousands years, the world societies had enjoyed trade. People and nations have traded their
product from one country to another and many nations have enjoyed the easy way of exchanging of
goods and services without restrictions. However, after the world war one Free trade has been crippled
due to free trade restrictions called trade protections. Trade protectionism is defined as the use of
government regulations to limit the import of goods and services. (Williams kinicki. P 117).One of
main trade protectionism is the use of tariffs. Tariffs are form of trade barrier by which government or
countries tax on imported goods and services. In America and around the world trade protectionism
has been widely used because anti free trade believes that it will save jobs and stabilized the economy.
On the other hand, pro free trade is not considering trade protection as beneficial but rather impairing
overall trading atmosphere. In this paper, I would like to talk about the overall disadvantage and
disadvantage of free trade has on the economy. The advantages of free trade, are increase production,
production efficiency, benefit to consumers, foreign exchange gains, employment, and economic
growth. (Edge ken). In free trade countries increase production of goods or commodities in which they

Reflection Paper On Refugees
The first day of my internship at the Refugee Legal Service in Dublin, Ireland I learned the difference
between watching news clips on refugees, and what it meant to actually go through the whole process.
The asylum process is a painstaking, time consuming, and emotional ordeal. During my time there, I
ended up meeting with dozens of refugees, but there was one event that I can still remember clearly. I
was invited to help work on a case involving a woman and her son fleeing from South Africa due to
facial scarring on the first born child. After a meeting with several members of our legal team, I
reached out to the caseworker and asked if there was anything extra I could do to help their case. She
asked that I try to find more evidence to support the claim that facial scarring was still going on in the
village the family was from. After spending days researching the area the village was in, I was able to
find other accounts of facial scarring. Because of my extra efforts that helped her case, I was invited to
attend the hearing at the High Court. This opportunity was incredible and overwhelming and I know
this was only a fraction of the work that you have to go through to be granted asylum. The hearing
was eight hours, long and I was one of the few people allowed to sit in the back of the courtroom and
take notes. Throughout the entire day it was interesting to see how the asylum process actually works,
as opposed to hearing or reading about it. During the lunch break I

Since the opening of China s doors to world trade in the late 90 s, it has become an emerging super
power.
Hence, China may be a threat to India s current competitive position in the cashew nut production
because it is also capable to support cashew processing with its abundance of human resources, low
wage rates, and possible training in the manual dexterity required in the premium cashew nut
production. China is currently engaging in new markets and providing cheap manual labor to other

Abstract:
Green tea, an unfermented leaves is rich in catechins. Catechins are known to lower the lipid by un
regulating lipid metabolizing enzyme via NF KB and thereby stimulating fat oxidation. Black tea
results from the fermentation of green tea in which catechins of green tea is converted to theaflavin
and thearubigin, which have some significant health benefits of their own. Theaflavin is responsible
for reduced lipid accumulation, suppressed fatty acid synthesis, and stimulated fatty acid oxidation by
inhibiting acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase activities.
A literature review of a total of 8 Randomized Controlled trials (RCTs), 5 Meta analyses consisting of
75 peer reviewed Randomized Controlled trials (RCTs) on 5319 subjects and 6 population based
studies were selected for this study. The research related to Green tea effect on the cholesterol and
lipid lowering effect shows promising results with high dose of intake for long term. Studies and meta
analyses of CCRTs in most cases showed improved low density

Symbolism In And Then There Were None
Everyone sometimes gets the feeling of a constant rush of uncertainty, anxiety, and tension because of
what they think may or may not happen. In And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie the ten
main characters in the story are constantly having this feeling of immense uncertainty. They feel this
way because they are slowly dying without even knowing how or why the others were killed. The
story begins with all ten people being invited by an anonymous person and are murdered one by one.
This results in the victims racing to solve the crime before they are killed. Throughout the novel And
Then There Were None, Agatha Christie uses imagery, symbolism, and foreshadowing to create
suspense and make the reader feel uncertain.
To begin, the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author uses china soldiers to represent how many people are left on the island and as the people
die the soldiers go missing. When Vera and Justice Wargrave are looking around Vera cries The toy

evidence suggests that another person has died since there is one less soldier on the table. The author
uses Symbolism to keep the readers on their toes wanting to who died and how it happened. This
suspense created also creates feeling of panic for the other characters since they are unaware of
anyone dying. In addition, the reader now feels the suspense because they are pondering what will
happen next but are still uncertain. Another way the author uses symbolism is by using a poem that
describes how each person dies. In the novel, Vera says Seven little soldier boys chopping up sticks,
And the next verse I know it by heart, I tell you six little soldier boys playing with a hive (Christie

Christie builds the suspense by hinting how the next person will die. A suspenseful feeling is formed
because it makes the reader wonder if the author is just trying to delay an event that the reader knows
is coming. However, the reader can not be sure since it can also be that the author is

Comparing Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Seas And Robr...
Jules Verne plays with his readers perceptions of life and sentience in both Twenty Thousand Leagues
Under the Seas and Robur the Conqueror. Both novels share fundamental novums; a vehicle that
cannot exist during the current time does, in fact, exist. Although these technological modes of
transport utilized in both novels are fantastical and near mythical in nature, they both are grounded in
possible (and probable) methods of operation. However, despite these vehicles being controlled by a
knowledgeable captain, the machines act more as alive beings throughout each story. Instead of Verne
painting the Albatross and the Nautilus as mere vessels for the beings that give operation and
direction, he gives the breath of agency to the machines. In this critical essay, I will examine the
relationship between both captains and their respective ships, provide examples of the ships being
illustrated as individual agents within the story, and outline some trends and observations about how
the agency of the vehicles affects one s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though, one key difference between Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas and Robur the
Conqueror is that the Albatross flight is much less concerned with systematic and logical mapping and

Christian Beliefs About Euthanasia
Beliefs of Different Religions About Euthanasia
For this essay I have decided to study the two religions Christianity and Buddhism. Buddhism has no
major denominations, unlike Christianity, which has many denominations around the globe. However,
I am only going to focus on Christianity as a whole, quoting teachings from the Bible (Old and New
Testament), and then referring to the two major denominations of Anglican and Roman Catholic when
their points on euthanasia are absolute. I have chosen those particular denominations of Christianity
because Anglican represents Christianity as a whole, a basis, and Catholicism has some very strict
rules that cannot be ignored.
Firstly, I shall explain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christians also believe that we are all equal as human beings. Therefore someone who is paralysed in
a wheelchair, unable to do anything for themselves and barely conscious has the same social equality
of someone who is perfectly normal. This is because God is benevolent (all loving) and so can love
everyone the same, regardless of their physical being. So to perform euthanasia on someone in a
vegetative state would be morally similar to performing it on a normal human, simply because human
lives are valued by God. Apart from valuing each other s lives, Christians are morally against
euthanasia because they are against killing. Do not kill states one of the Ten Commandments, and by
committing euthanasia would violate this rule.
Euthanasia is a grave violation of the law of God, since it is the deliberate and morally unacceptable
killing of a human person. Pope John Paul II: Evangelium Vitae, 1995. This is a quote using by
Roman Catholics, demonstrating their absolute morals on killing. They believe it is completely
unacceptable to kill anyone else, because God said that it was wrong to. Even when Anglicans may be
persuaded that euthanasia is the best option for a person, out of love and compassion for a human,
Catholics will not be convinced. They believe that killing of any kind is wrong, no matter what the

Lord Of Flies Book Vs Lord Of The Flies
The Inner Beast Emerges
The beast that lies inside of us all shows what it can do when it has a chance too.
By Daniel Frankel
The Lord of the Flies is a 250 page novel written by Sir William Golding. It was first published in
1954 and since then, has become a worldwide success. A quote from Golding was The right
impression is the one that rises to the reader the first time he reads the book , This was perfectly suited
for his book, as his book was a best seller. The movie based on the novel Lord of the Flies was first
made in 1963 in black and white, then made again in colour in 1990 by Harry Hook. The movie has
many deviations from the book however the storyline is basically the same and proved a success by
grossing just under $14 million in the box office, making it a major film for the time period. Because
this novel was such a success schools all around are still studying it in senior English.
The Lord of the flies novel, starts at a reasonable pace and doesn t let the reader lose interest. Sir
William Golding writes very descriptively and creates the images very clearly. For example his hair

boys elect Ralph to be the leader, a position, Ralph, feels a duty as the eldest to fulfil. However, one of

to prove to myself that education is important and that I know I can do it. Not only doing work, but I
am going to read more books and possibly stay away from the media because it is nothing but a waste
of time and I need to focus on my studies more. After all the time I have wasted, I actually regret the
time I could have been used for studying. In addition to my short term goals, I will build up my study
skills so that way I can do well on standardized exams such as entrance to colleges for the California
State Universities. Even though I have failed on my SAT and ACT due to low test scores of academic

This Essay Is Looking At What The Key Factors Most Commonly
This essay is looking at what the key factors most commonly regarded as being linked to health
inequalities in the United Kingdom. Firstly, what does the term health inequalities mean according to
the World Health Organisation (WHO) Health inequalities can be defined as differences in health
status or in the distribution of health determinants between different population groups. For example,
differences in mobility between elderly people and younger populations or differences in mortality
rates between people from different social classes. It is important to distinguish between inequality in
health and inequity. Some health inequalities are attributable to biological variations or free choice and
others are attributable to the external ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The further up the ladder you climb in a business the better the health benefits can be for example the
higher you go up in the company private health care you get raises in value also getting paid leave to
recover, unlike the workers who are nowhere near the lower middle class section of the business
structure they will be using the NHS this can mean long waiting lists, unpaid leave or sick pay which
is not a lot.
Another factor to inequalities of health could be regional differences and what I mean by this is where
you live in the United Kingdom (BBC, 2011) helps point out if you live in central London and areas in
the south east of England like Brighton, Canterbury(Kent), Oxfordshire, the Isles of Wight and Surrey
they are going to have higher living standards than anyone living in the north of England for example
Middlesbrough, Gateshead or Sunderland and it s the same when it comes to Wales and Scotland. The
reason for the massive divide brings me on to another factor of why there is such an inequality in
health which is employment.
As the (BBC, 2011) states on their website This is linked to employment opportunities. Declines in
traditional industries such as mining have contributed to a

Plato s Allegories
Plato s Allegory of the Cave Plato was a protégé of Socrates and an idealist philosopher during the
classical Greek period that helped to form the base of philosophy as is known in today s western
world. He formed his own ideology called Platonic Idealism which is the idea that basic reality is not
the most real form of reality placing the truest form of reality on unchanging, eternal and objectively
existing forms. Plato often wrote allegories to express his world view and to allow his audience to
realize Plato s ideas on their own terms. One of his most famous allegories is called the Myth of the
Cave . In the Myth of the Cave , Plato tries to show the journey of someone as they attempt to become
enlightened and their downfall once they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ultimate reality in Plato s World view is Platonic forms, and these forms are represented in the
visible world by shadows, objects and people themselves, the sky and lastly the sun. The origin of this
worldview and subsequently, forms, is the form of Goodness which is the basis of all other forms. In
this story, the sun is the source of everything in the visible world therefore representing the form of
goodness. When the prisoner was liberated and went into the visible world, instantly he began to
adjust to this newfound environment, filling his eyes with all that he could see. From this we can see
that the goal of one that has begun their journey is to find enlightenment or to understand the highest
truth. Human nature is referenced to a few times in the allegory; one of the boldest statements is that
prisoners would kill an enlightened one for attempting to enlighten others. One can infer that Plato is
trying to say that human nature is very hubristic, holding fast to materialistic views and objects whilst
refuting anything that may lead to Plato s version of enlightenment. Plato states after the allegory that
everyone is capable of learning, however, for one to learn then they must truly focus their entire mind

Media and Its Effects on Society
S. Jade Flewelling
Ms. Melissa Hicks
English 225, Section 23
Final Paper Draft 1 The media is an obvious factor in the increase of violence, risky behavior, and
obesity in kids in our society. Television programs and movies are becoming more and more violent,
and more abundant to fulfill the demand for an overly desensitized audience. For any type of
television show or movie to be considered good and entertaining it must excel in at least 3 categories:
blood and guts, curse words, and the most important element of all how believable are the scenarios.
The good guy must prevail, even if it means murdering 25 men in order to rescue the super hot
defenseless heiress. It s sad really, for some it is engaging and entertaining as long as the ... Show

A survey of 2,000 3rd graders showed that as the number of hours of television viewing increased, so
did the rates of anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress (Rao,79). Some babysitter huh?
Television programs create false perceptions of the real world. Often times children will become
fearful of the real world and expect that something bad will happen to them (How TV Affects Your
Child, Par. 10). Many parents think that they can explain away the frightening scenes that children
watch, but unfortunately frightening TV scenes have an immediate impact on kids: 62% of parents
report that their children have at some point been scared that something they saw in a TV program or
movie might happen to them (Rao, 80). Another very sad problem that too much television is creating
is that in most cases children watch television alone. Teenagers with very few friends often create
substitute friendships, also know as parasocial friendships (71). Television does not educate children
on how to integrate and contribute to society in healthy ways. Often times children are bombarded
with messages like, its cool to smoke, its cool to drink, have sex with whoever you want as long as
their hot, and its okay to beat someone up as long as you re the good guy. How can we possibly be

The Benefits Of Intrauterine Insemination ( Iui ), And...
In today s world there are several options for couples who are wanting to begin or add to the number
of members in their families, but have had difficulties in doing so. Aside from adoption, the
possibilities for these couples include: Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In vitro Fertilization (IVI), and
Surrogate Mother Arrangements. While these options may result in a pregnancy, they are not without
risk and must be considered prayerfully, as they carry a moral and ethical weight. First, Intrauterine
Insemination, also known as artificial insemination, is a process commonly used for unexplained
infertility in which specially washed sperm is directly inserted into the uterus (Christianlifesources).
Most clinics offer for the woman to remain lying down for a few minutes after the procedure, although
it has not been shown to improve success. The sperm has been put above the vagina and cervix it will
not leak out when you stand up (Advanced Fertilization). During the IUI procedure, Doctors place the
sperm higher in the cervix than with Intracervical or ICI procedures, resulting in higher percentages of
pregnancy. Doctors utilize IUI in situations where women experience problems with ovulation, mild
cases of endometriosis, and cervical factor infertility (advanced fertility). Clients also benefit from IUI
when male factor infertility is an issue, however, If the sperm count, motility and morphology scores
are quite low, intrauterine insemination is unlikely to work (Advanced

Values, Self Confidence And The Feeling Of Belonging
Values give us self awareness, self confidence and the feeling of belonging. They help us make the
right choices and force us to develop integrity. Values show us how to choose between different
priorities and give us an idea of what improvements we need to be made to improve our relationships
with others. When we act with these values they give us credibility, and help us to know where we
stand, and clarify what we will and will not tolerate. We make many choices daily, some have very
minor significance, others of extreme importance, and each one of these choices we make have a huge
impact not just on us, but those around us. Even a very small decision such as having a burger instead
of a salad could effect our health in the long run, and in result affect the people we love. There are
seven values that are absolutely essential for human survival. The seven include justice and fairness,
caring, respect responsibility, honesty, loyalty and liberty. These seven values play a major role in our
lives. Many of us forget these values that we have been taught. Living in this busy and fast paced
world, many us of neglect to practice these core values. The ethical couture of this world is spiraling
downward. We seem to be focused on ourselves rather than caring about others. I will be describing
how these seven essential values are expressed in my life and some areas that need some work. I strive

Canada, a large, popular and flourishing country compared to Grenada, a tiny, comfortable and stable
country, how different could they be? To put the size into perspective, Grenada is barely the size of
Toronto and Toronto has a larger population. While Grenada has some very clear occupational paths
due to its close knit nature, Canada however has many different occupational paths due to its diverse

If one were to look at similarities, it would be more reasonable to compare Grenada and Toronto,
however since Toronto does not represent Canada, there are mostly differences. One of the differences
that differentiate each country so largely, are the differences in education. In terms of quality, quantity,
and popularity, Canada outclasses Grenada by a landslide. St. George is one of the main universities
provided in Grenada and, 6,022 students attended St. George s University in 2016 (University, S.
2018). However, Grenada has a 76.87% net enrollment rate (Grenada | Factsheets | Youthpolicy.org.
2018), which is not too bad, all things considered. While, education up until post secondary is free, it
is not enforced the same way education is enforced in Canada. Due to this and the higher class culture
in Canada, it is obvious that Canada would have a higher quality of education. Canadian education is
incredible, there is a large list of outstanding universities that have many international students
attending, for example, Ryerson, UoFT, UBC and Waterloo. After education, the next step is to get a
job so that one can earn money. Grenada has a multitude of occupational choices, but there are a few

What Is The Controversy Of Capital Punishment
The much debated controversy of Capital Punishment
Many people question the need for the death penalty, the execution of those who have committed
certain crimes, as a capital punishment. For instance, the author of Against the American System of
Capital Punishment , Jack Greenburg, who is a Professor of Law at Columbia University, argues that
the death penalty does not benefit society and is not necessary. Likewise, Kevin Johnson, writer of
Study Finds No Evidence Death Penalty Deters Crime , also argues against the use of the death
penalty by pointing out the flaws in the common research of deterrence. On the other hand, some may
also argue for the many aids the death penalty offers. Professor of Jurisprudence and Public Policy at
Fordham University, Ernest Van den Haag, with his The Ultimate Punishment: a Defense , and authors
James M. Reams and Charles T. Putnam, with their article, Making a Case for the Deterrence Effect of
Capital Punishment , both give arguments for the grander justice the death penalty offers. While each
of these articles give very well thought out claims for the necessity of the death penalty, using
arguments including racism, and deterrence, Van den Haag s claim gives the clearest and best
arguments. When confronted with racism being involved with the death ... Show more content on

justice that is outlined in Van den Haag s argument. Van den Haag s overall claim that racism has

goal: misdistribution is irrelevant because justice has been established. This is significant to making
his argument superior because he focuses on the overall purpose of the death penalty rather than its

Essay On Eddie Bauer
Eddie Bauer Case Analysis
I. Strategy Upon Emerging from Bankruptcy Protection, Key Success and Risk Factors
After emerging from bankruptcy in 2005, Eddie Bauer had to take several strategic steps to establish
an effective direction of the company and operate more successfully. Management s plan of
reorganization identified six key strategic initiatives that can be classified into two main groups. The
first component of their strategy is to improve profitability by both increasing demand through
effective marketing campaigns (brand revitalization, resizing of stores, and improving customer
experience) and cutting costs (store rationalization, increasing direct sales, and optimizing
productivity). The second component of their strategy is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Advertising expenses are included as part of SG A in the income statement. Additionally, attracting top
management talent will further increase the company s expenditure on SG A since they have to
incentive individuals to join such a company that has recently emerged from the bankruptcy. Based on
projections, Eddie Bauer expected that SG A as a percentage of net sales will decrease from 37.6% in
2004 to 34.3% in 2008, indicating a deviation from economic reality, regardless of expected
operational efficiencies. Eddie Bauer would need to maintain its SG A percentage to run new
marketing campaigns and attract top talent. Eddie Bauer may be understanding its assumptions about
how much it needs to invest to drive these strategic initiatives. Thus, it would be more appropriate to
increase SG A to around 40% of net sales to account for these large expenditures. Next important
metric would be based on the company s intent to resize to an optimal store size of 5,500 square feet
as mentioned in the case. It is helpful to compare the company s sales per square foot with top 10
comparable companies in the retail industry to determine whether Eddie Bauer s projections are
aligned with economic reality. Eddie Bauer is approximated to have 1.975 million square feet in retail
space in 2006. Thus, Eddie Bauer should expect to attain retail

Wayde v New South Wales Rugby League [1985] Critical reflection Reading the Wayde V South

from entering the premiership league. The reduction from 14 to 12 leagues was because of
incorporation and the long season and less recovery time between matches for players, and more
leagues was a burden. Less leagues and shorter season was seen by the directors as a better option for
the premiership. While the courts acknowledged that the exclusion was discriminatory towards the
club, it was in the NSWR s constitution (under cl.46 (1)), that the NSWRL had the power to regulate
which clubs would play in the premiership. Thus, the court determined that ... Show more content on

Just a few years ago sport was considered a leisure activity, which Anderson calls the feudal era
(Anderson 2009) where sport was seen as a community activity. Today we see sports become a
legitimate business, with major profits to be made. This is interesting to me as I would imagine just a
few years ago sports and law were not seen as close entities. But as the case above shows that sports
and law are becoming important and a legitimate area of policy and study, which became known as
sports and the law. The case above looks at shareholder oppression, which looks at if the shareholders
are using their powers fairly and not oppressing minority groups. It is fascinating to think that this
concept was only linked to businesses, but now is a legitimate consideration of sports such as rugby.
Contracts and constitutions are a normal part of sports dealings today, and interesting law aspects arise
such as shareholder oppression. Directors can be taken to court if it is seen that they are stopping a

defeat it, Winston on the other hand is just frustrated and wants to destroy the Party he does not really

not able to pinpoint why he is very unhappy and angry, he knows that he is because of the Party but he
does not know what aspects f the Party are making him feel this way. On the other hand Julia knows
what is wrong with the Party and she actually analyzes why the Party does the things that it does and
how the Party is helping itself out by doing these things. For example, in the novel Julia is able to

when they take away love and passion they can channel that into a massive love for the Party. Julia is

Literature And Old English Literature
Throughout history, English Literature has evolved in many ways. It has changed from Old English to
Middle English. One big change is how we shared and communicated stories. Quite a few other things
that changed are the attitudes of fighters, and who heroes fought against. The treatment of women
differed from seeing women as possessions to seeing them as people. The role of religion changed to
have less of an influence. Plagues led to the end of the feudal system, and king s absolute power was
taken away. The mass production of books came after the end of the plague. People started keeping
records of time. Climate change created many issues with crops. All of these changes caused
extraordinary effects on the transition from Old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These aspects changed during the Middle English era. Fighters went from almost barbaric attitudes to
being chivalrous. Fighters also no longer fought for personal fame, and instead fought for god, the
king, honor, and women. With this attitude we saw many more knights in the society. Similarly who
heroes fought was also greatly changed from Old English to Middle English. In Old English heroes
would go into battles against monsters twice their size. Heroes also fought against gods and other
supernatural forces. They were seen as everyday people who could take down and defeat these forces
no man should be able to. The hero s tales soon changed from these outrageous stories of fighting
monsters to Arthurian legends. In the Arthurian legends, heroes were the kings and knights who fought
to protect their kingdom. Earthy stories were told of the middle class to make them seem dirty and
undesirable. Equally important is how in Old English women were seen as objects to fulfill men s
desires. Women were a Source of unpaid labor, and offerings. The consideration of women as equals
was not common. When making treaties men of power would use attractive women as a pawn to
ensure the favored outcome. Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of the first to bring the unjust
treatment of women to light. She provided a strong figure for women to aspire to be. Eleanor s
daughter, Marie of France, continued in

Wal Mart Organization As My Company Of Interest
Abstract
For this final research paper I chose Wal Mart organization as my company of interest. The research
conducted for this paper includes eight references supporting statements pertaining to the Wal Marts
compensation and benefits plans. In the paper I briefly discussed some financial and health benefits
offered by Wal Mart. During the discussion of the financial benefits we touched on the 401(k) plan,
the Employee Stock Option Plan, and the Military Differential pay. I pointed out how Wal Marts
Military Differential Pay is above most companies as they pay employee s full salary if they are called
to active duty as most companies only pay the difference of what the employee is making with the
military and would be making with the organization (Jathar, 2013). I also attempted to show how Wal
Marts health benefits compared to other companies by discussing their Health Insurance plan and their
Health Reimbursement Account. I pointed out how Wal Mart associates are paying on average $7000
more annually than other employees with similar Health Reimbursement Account. I think the only
way to fix this is for our government to take the same action as many of our sister countries and at a
minimum mandate a cap that employer s can have employee s pay in to these accounts. In all I feel
from the research and past personal experience that Wal Mart is a great organization to work for even
with the few needed improvements.

office. By so doing his department would not have been sub changed on the use of the resource Olds
in this instance. Olds discussion should have ended at the allotted time for each project without using
one project s time on the other. 3. There was a conflict of interest. In this case, there was a
dysfunctional conflict between the two mangers. Olds was at the center of the conflict. There was a
silent infighting between Palmer and Crosby for sharing the resource Olds. The stress level was high
for Olds because he was dealing with two managers performing two different tasks. This was also
extended to his home front. Palmer s project deliverables were lagging behind because of his
magnanimity of allowing Olds to be shared between him and Crosby. The advantage of shearing
resources involves the optimization of the resources under consideration. Initially, Olds was
maximally utilized by the two managers. Flexible utilization of Olds expertise was fully tapped. His

Mistakes and Murder
William Shakespeare presents us with a prominent example of a tragic hero in his play The Tragedy of
Julius Caesar. Because they experience misfortune and loss, tragic heroes fall from a high status to a
low, pitiful existence. This fall is brought about through mistakes and flaws in their own character.
Brutus is one of the tragic heroes appearing in this work of literature. He begins as a popular senator
in Rome s democracy who plots to overthrow is superior. Because of the murder of Caesar he begins a
journey to a downfall of his own creation. His poor judgment and mistakes, tragic loss of wife and
home, and lack of reaching goals, lead to enlightenment and ultimately his tragic death. A tragic hero
must have a flaw that will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antony and Octavius rise to power has also forced Brutus to flee his beloved home in Rome and live
as a renegade in Philippi. The people twixt Philippi and this ground do stand but in a forced affection
(974). Leaving his wife, Portia, in Rome, she has killed herself. Impatient of my absence, and grief
that young Octavius with Mark Antony have made themselves so strong for with her death that tidings
came with this she fell distract, and (her attendants absent) she swallowed fire (972). Before he
commits suicide he receives enlightenment, realizing his mistakes. His final words are to Caesar.
Caesar, now be still; I killed not thee with half so good a will (997). He sees that his decision to
murder Caesar was a mistake. Throughout Shakespeare s play, Brutus changes dramatically, as his
corrosive actions buffet him with punishments and losses. When he first appears in this work, he
seems to be a troubled man, concerned for his country. I turn the trouble of my countenance merely
upon myself. Vexèd I am of late with passions of some difference (890). He is, at first, concerned for
his friend and Rome. He is afraid that the people do not know what is best for them and will choose
Caesar as a king. As the plot thickens and the conspiracy grows, he becomes a vigilante trying to stop
a tyrant, only for the people of Rome. It must be by his death; and for my part, I know no personal

Compare And Contrast The Great Gatsby And The King s Speech
I have had the privilege to study two compelling masterpieces this year. The enthralling novel The
Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and the exceptional visual sensation that is The King s Speech .
The cultural context alludes what aspects are relevant to the society of that world and their daily lives.
I was very intrigued when comparing both of these texts.
While the texts presents very different worlds there are some striking similarities. Ultimately each text
creates its own unique universe which impacts the protagonist in a variety of ways.
Setting
The king s Speech is set in England during the time period of 1925 1939. This was a very tense period
since England was still recovering from The Great War and was leading to the Wall ... Show more

In The King s Speech The main protagonists are either members of the English Royal family or a
family man from the colonies in middle class. A moment of class snobbery was availed in the film
when Bertie and Elizabeth went to Balmoral castle to attend one of David and Wallace s extravagant
parties. This itself was a red flag to the Duke and Duchess since the royal family doesn t throw such
informal and decadent parties since they too respected and classy for events like that. Elizabeth s short
wit and tempered and vivid when Wallis greets them informally and acted as if everything was hers.
This was evident in the mise en scene showing her close up with the expensive chandelier overhead.
Elizabeth rudely brushed her off then stated I was invited on behalf of the king . Afterwards her and
Churchill discussed how a commoner like her couldn t marry David. This proves the class snobbery
that is present in The King s Speech
In The Great Gatsby we also see this exact same class consciousness at myrtle and Tom s apartment.
This is evident when Lucille stated I almost made mistake too. I almost married a little kike who d
been after me for years. I know he was below me. Everyone kept saying; Lucille, that man s below
you! but if i hadn t met Chester he d gotten me for

Health Issues Of The United States
The United States has encountered numerous problems throughout its history. An ongoing problem
that has affected millions of Americans is poor health. Poor health can be defined as two things:
unstable mental state or unstable physical state. The United States of America has experienced both of
these characteristics with its citizens. Americans have been hit hard with these health issues for
decades. America is one of the unhealthiest countries in the world and many people do not understand
why. There is a strong correlation between mental health and physical health. One health issue can
lead to another, which in turn, makes people feel as if they are trapped in a horrific cycle of living in
poor conditions. This causes people to feel insecure about themselves emotionally and physically,
creating disgust in themselves. One of the most challenging objectives for individuals is engaging in
physical activity. This is the reason why health is an issue in America. Individuals who lack physical
health can eventually lead to depression and other psychological issues and vice versa.
A common condition that indicates if someone is unhealthy is obesity. Obesity is the state of being
highly overweight. More than half of the adults in the United States struggle with obesity every day of
their lives. Obesity is influenced by multiple factors such as physiological, environmental, behavioral,
and genetics. The primary cause of obesity is from the intake of large quantities of fatty foods.

Cold War Dbq
Consisting of 44 years of violence and civil unrest from 1947 to 1991, the Cold War was a huge
turning point in history. The Cold War however was a war of avoidance, not combat. Defence systems
were heavily funded as deterrence to actual war, the belief being a risk of mutual annihilation would
be too great to be the side to make the first move. However, the Cold War caused a large variety of
conflict and civil unrest around the world, such as the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cuban
Missile Crisis. The War split the world into supporting either the United States, or the USSR (Soviet
Union). Both superpowers were associated with two very different political systems; Capitalism and
Communism. The Soviets were very concerned about the spread ... Show more content on

Many Americans believed that the war ravaged country of Vietnam, had to be resurrected from grave.
Beginning in 1964 and growing in later years, anti war protests began forming. Outrage from civilians
erupted when President Johnson issued the draft, as he felt the Americans needed to take a more
aggressive action against North Vietnam. Young men refused to join the fight and protests emitted
from college campuses and major cities such as Washington D.C. and New York. ((n.d.). Retrieved
from http://www.texasgateway.org) and ((n.d.). Retrieved from http://avuth15.wix.com/thecoldwar are
both primary sources illustrating anti war protests, showing the outrage that America had towards the
war. By 1968, the whole country had felt the war s impact. When the war finally ceased and the troops
returned home, the protests, the actions by the government and the war itself, had taken a toll on the
country. America s opinions were sharply turned against the war. The veterans who fought bravely in
the war, returned to a nation that was bitter towards anything related to the war. Today, a Vietnam War
memorial has been erected in Washington, to honor those who sacrificed their life for their country. As
shown in ((n.d.). Retrieved from http://www.english.illinois.edu), the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was
built to honor the U.S defence members who died in service in South East Asia. As a result, the social

He received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his services to physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect ,a important step in the development of explanation. He was convinced of the good qualities of general relativity because it allowed for a more (very close to the truth or true number) (statement about a possible future event) of planetary orbits around the sun, which fell short in Isaac Newton s explanation (of why something works or happens the way it does), and for a more big and wide, detailed and thoughtful explanation of how (related to gravity) forces worked. • 6. The Ones Who Walk Away From The Omelas By Ursula Le Guin A dream of ignorance The short story The ones who walk away from the Omelas by Ursula Le Guin does a great job of criticizing the flaws of a capitalist society. What this means is that she talks about how it has become a standard for someone to become happy at the expense of others. In order to demonstrate this she presents a society that guarantees eternal happiness at the expense of a single child who must suffer through it all. The characters are faced with two choices which would be to stay and accept the child s fate or to walk away and leave for the mountains. Both of these choices do not involve helping the child but rather abandoning it in both circumstances. This is a criticism of how people in reality typically treat those who are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Le Guin s exploitation of this in her writing gives us a clear indication of her intended audience. This once again justifies my theory as to why Omelas is based off of a dream she once had. What the dream did was remind of her that there are people out there suffering and being completely ignored. The fact that she contributed towards the continuation of such suffering ultimately inspired her to push for change in public awareness. An important method that Le Guin uses is to maintain respect by not acting angry to the general public. If she was calling out individuals disrespectfully then she herself would be subject to criticism as well. This is why she turns to writing due to past difficulties with public activism. While she did help influence a few people to help spread the word, she gained more public criticism as people found her too demanding(jstor.org). Therefore she switched to becoming an activist through writing literature. Switching through this method has helped gain widespread respect while further popularizing her cause. Reflection Paper On Refugees The first day of my internship at the Refugee Legal Service in Dublin, Ireland I learned the difference between watching news clips on refugees, and what it meant to actually go through the whole process. The asylum process is a painstaking, time consuming, and emotional ordeal. During my time there, I ended up meeting with dozens of refugees, but there was one event that I can still remember clearly. I was invited to help work on a case involving a woman and her son fleeing from South Africa due to facial scarring on the first born child. After a meeting with several members of our legal team, I reached out to the caseworker and asked if there was anything extra I could do to help their case. She asked that I try to find more evidence to support the claim that facial scarring was still going on in the village the family was from. After spending days researching the area the village was in, I was able to find other accounts of facial scarring. Because of my extra efforts that helped her case, I was invited to attend the hearing at the High Court. This opportunity was incredible and overwhelming and I know this was only a fraction of the work that you have to go through to be granted asylum. The hearing was eight hours, long and I was one of the few people allowed to sit in the back of the courtroom and take notes. Jules Verne plays with his readers perceptions of life and sentience in both Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas and Robur the Conqueror. Both novels share fundamental novums; a vehicle that cannot exist during the current time does, in fact, exist. Although these technological modes of transport utilized in both novels are fantastical and near mythical in nature, they both are grounded in possible (and probable) methods of operation. However, despite these vehicles being controlled by a knowledgeable captain, the machines act more as alive beings throughout each story. Firstly, what does the term health inequalities mean according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Health inequalities can be defined as differences in health status or in the distribution of health determinants between different population groups. For example, differences in mobility between elderly people and younger populations or differences in mortality rates between people from different social classes. Another factor to inequalities of health could be regional differences and what I mean by this is where you live in the United Kingdom (BBC, 2011) helps point out if you live in central London and areas in the south east of England like Brighton, Canterbury(Kent), Oxfordshire, the Isles of Wight and Surrey they are going to have higher living standards than anyone living in the north of England for example Middlesbrough, Gateshead or Sunderland and it s the same when it comes to Wales and Scotland. The reason for the massive divide brings me on to another factor of why there is such an inequality in health which is employment. Plato s Allegories Plato s Allegory of the Cave Plato was a protégé of Socrates and an idealist philosopher during the classical Greek period that helped to form the base of philosophy as is known in today s western world. He formed his own ideology called Platonic Idealism which is the idea that basic reality is not the most real form of reality placing the truest form of reality on unchanging, eternal and objectively existing forms. Plato often wrote allegories to express his world view and to allow his audience to realize Plato s ideas on their own terms. One of his most famous allegories is called the Myth of the Cave . The ultimate reality in Plato s World view is Platonic forms, and these forms are represented in the visible world by shadows, objects and people themselves, the sky and lastly the sun. The origin of this worldview and subsequently, forms, is the form of Goodness which is the basis of all other forms. In this story, the sun is the source of everything in the visible world therefore representing the form of goodness. When the prisoner was liberated and went into the visible world, instantly he began to adjust to this newfound environment, filling his eyes with all that he could see. From this we can see that the goal of one that has begun their journey is to find enlightenment or to understand the highest truth. Human nature is referenced to a few times in the allegory; one of the boldest statements is that prisoners would kill an enlightened one for attempting to enlighten others. One can infer that Plato is trying to say that human nature is very hubristic, holding fast to materialistic views and objects whilst refuting anything that may lead to Plato s version of enlightenment. Plato states after the allegory that everyone is capable of learning, however, for one to learn then they must truly focus their entire mind on understanding the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jade Flewelling Ms. Melissa Hicks English 225, Section 23 Final Paper Draft 1 The media is an obvious factor in the increase of violence, risky behavior, and obesity in kids in our society. Television programs and movies are becoming more and more violent, and more abundant to fulfill the demand for an overly desensitized audience. For any type of television show or movie to be considered good and entertaining it must excel in at least 3 categories: blood and guts, curse words, and the most important element of all how believable are the scenarios. The good guy must prevail, even if it means murdering 25 men in order to rescue the super hot defenseless heiress. It s sad really, for some it is engaging and entertaining as long as the ... A survey of 2,000 3rd graders showed that as the number of hours of television viewing increased, so did the rates of anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress (Rao,79). Some babysitter huh? Television programs create false perceptions of the real world. Often times children will become fearful of the real world and expect that something bad will happen to them (How TV Affects Your Child, Par. 10). Many parents think that they can explain away the frightening scenes that children watch, but unfortunately frightening TV scenes have an immediate impact on kids: 62% of parents report that their children have at some point been scared that something they saw in a TV program or movie might happen to them (Rao, 80). Another very sad problem that too much television is creating is that in most cases children watch television alone. Teenagers with very few friends often create substitute friendships, also know as parasocial friendships (71). Television does not educate children on how to integrate and contribute to society in healthy ways. Often times children are bombarded with messages like, its cool to smoke, its cool to drink, have sex with whoever you want as long as their hot, and its okay to beat someone up as long as you re the good guy. In today s world there are several options for couples who are wanting to begin or add to the number of members in their families, but have had difficulties in doing so. Aside from adoption, the possibilities for these couples include: Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In vitro Fertilization (IVI), and Surrogate Mother Arrangements. While these options may result in a pregnancy, they are not without risk and must be considered prayerfully, as they carry a moral and ethical weight. First, Intrauterine Insemination, also known as artificial insemination, is a process commonly used for unexplained infertility in which specially washed sperm is directly inserted into the uterus (Christianlifesources). Most clinics offer for the woman to remain lying down for a few minutes after the procedure, although it has not been shown to improve success. The sperm has been put above the vagina and cervix it will not leak out when you stand up (Advanced Fertilization). During the IUI procedure, Doctors place the sperm higher in the cervix than with Intracervical or ICI procedures, resulting in higher percentages of pregnancy. Doctors utilize IUI in situations where women experience problems with ovulation, mild cases of endometriosis, and cervical factor infertility (advanced fertility). Clients also benefit from IUI when male factor infertility is an issue, however, If the sperm count, motility and morphology scores are quite low, intrauterine insemination is unlikely to work (Advanced ... What Is The Controversy Of Capital Punishment The much debated controversy of Capital Punishment Many people question the need for the death penalty, the execution of those who have committed certain crimes, as a capital punishment. For instance, the author of Against the American System of Capital Punishment , Jack Greenburg, who is a Professor of Law at Columbia University, argues that the death penalty does not benefit society and is not necessary. Eddie Bauer would need to maintain its SG A percentage to run new marketing campaigns and attract top talent. Eddie Bauer may be understanding its assumptions about how much it needs to invest to drive these strategic initiatives. Thus, it would be more appropriate to increase SG A to around 40% of net sales to account for these large expenditures. Next important metric would be based on the company s intent to resize to an optimal store size of 5,500 square feet as mentioned in the case. Less leagues and shorter season was seen by the directors as a better option for the premiership. One big change is how we shared and communicated stories. Quite a few other things that changed are the attitudes of fighters, and who heroes fought against. The treatment of women differed from seeing women as possessions to seeing them as people. The role of religion changed to have less of an influence. Fighters also no longer fought for personal fame, and instead fought for god, the king, honor, and women. With this attitude we saw many more knights in the society. Similarly who heroes fought was also greatly changed from Old English to Middle English. In Old English heroes would go into battles against monsters twice their size. Heroes also fought against gods and other supernatural forces. They were seen as everyday people who could take down and defeat these forces no man should be able to. The hero s tales soon changed from these outrageous stories of fighting monsters to Arthurian legends. In the Arthurian legends, heroes were the kings and knights who fought to protect their kingdom. Earthy stories were told of the middle class to make them seem dirty and undesirable. Equally important is how in Old English women were seen as objects to fulfill men s desires. Women were a Source of unpaid labor, and offerings. The consideration of women as equals was not common. When making treaties men of power would use attractive women as a pawn to ensure the favored outcome. In the paper I briefly discussed some financial and health benefits offered by Wal Mart. During the discussion of the financial benefits we touched on the 401(k) plan, the Employee Stock Option Plan, and the Military Differential pay. I pointed out how Wal Marts Military Differential Pay is above most companies as they pay employee s full salary if they are called to active duty as most companies only pay the difference of what the employee is making with the military and would be making with the organization (Jathar, 2013). I also attempted to show how Wal Marts health benefits compared to other companies by discussing their Health Insurance plan and their Health Reimbursement Account. I pointed out how Wal Mart associates are paying on average $7000 more annually than other employees with similar Health Reimbursement Account. I think the only way to fix this is for our government to take the same action as many of our sister countries and at a minimum mandate a cap that employer s can have employee s pay in to these accounts. • 42. Compare And Contrast The Great Gatsby And The King s Speech I have had the privilege to study two compelling masterpieces this year. The enthralling novel The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and the exceptional visual sensation that is The King s Speech . The cultural context alludes what aspects are relevant to the society of that world and their daily lives. I was very intrigued when comparing both of these texts. While the texts presents very different worlds there are some striking similarities. Ultimately each text creates its own unique universe which impacts the protagonist in a variety of ways. Setting The king s Speech is set in England during the time period of 1925 1939. This was a very tense period since England was still recovering from The Great War and was leading to the Wall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The King s Speech The main protagonists are either members of the English Royal family or a family man from the colonies in middle class. A moment of class snobbery was availed in the film when Bertie and Elizabeth went to Balmoral castle to attend one of David and Wallace s extravagant parties. This itself was a red flag to the Duke and Duchess since the royal family doesn t throw such informal and decadent parties since they too respected and classy for events like that. Elizabeth s short wit and tempered and vivid when Wallis greets them informally and acted as if everything was hers. This was evident in the mise en scene showing her close up with the expensive chandelier overhead. Elizabeth rudely brushed her off then stated I was invited on behalf of the king . Afterwards her and Churchill discussed how a commoner like her couldn t marry David. This proves the class snobbery that is present in The King s Speech In The Great Gatsby we also see this exact same class consciousness at myrtle and Tom s apartment. This is evident when Lucille stated I almost made mistake too. I almost married a little kike who d been after me for years. I know he was below me. Everyone kept saying; Lucille, that man s below you! but if i hadn t met Chester he d gotten me for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Poor health can be defined as two things: unstable mental state or unstable physical state. The United States of America has experienced both of these characteristics with its citizens. Americans have been hit hard with these health issues for decades. America is one of the unhealthiest countries in the world and many people do not understand why. There is a strong correlation between mental health and physical health. One health issue can lead to another, which in turn, makes people feel as if they are trapped in a horrific cycle of living in poor conditions. This causes people to feel insecure about themselves emotionally and physically, creating disgust in themselves. One of the most challenging objectives for individuals is engaging in physical activity. This is the reason why health is an issue in America. Individuals who lack physical health can eventually lead to depression and other psychological issues and vice versa. A common condition that indicates if someone is unhealthy is obesity. • 44. Cold War Dbq Consisting of 44 years of violence and civil unrest from 1947 to 1991, the Cold War was a huge turning point in history. The Cold War however was a war of avoidance, not combat. Defence systems were heavily funded as deterrence to actual war, the belief being a risk of mutual annihilation would be too great to be the side to make the first move. However, the Cold War caused a large variety of conflict and civil unrest around the world, such as the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The War split the world into supporting either the United States, or the USSR (Soviet Union). Both superpowers were associated with two very different political systems; Capitalism and Communism. The Soviets were very concerned about the spread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many Americans believed that the war ravaged country of Vietnam, had to be resurrected from grave. Beginning in 1964 and growing in later years, anti war protests began forming. Outrage from civilians erupted when President Johnson issued the draft, as he felt the Americans needed to take a more aggressive action against North Vietnam. Young men refused to join the fight and protests emitted from college campuses and major cities such as Washington D.C. and New York. ((n.d.). Retrieved from http://www.texasgateway.org) and ((n.d.). Retrieved from http://avuth15.wix.com/thecoldwar are both primary sources illustrating anti war protests, showing the outrage that America had towards the war. By 1968, the whole country had felt the war s impact. When the war finally ceased and the troops returned home, the protests, the actions by the government and the war itself, had taken a toll on the country. America s opinions were sharply turned against the war. The veterans who fought bravely in the war, returned to a nation that was bitter towards anything related to the war. Today, a Vietnam War memorial has been erected in Washington, to honor those who sacrificed their life for their country. As shown in ((n.d.). Retrieved from http://www.english.illinois.edu), the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was built to honor the U.S defence members who died in service in South East Asia. As a result, the social ...
