OSHA Prevention
Upon its creation in 1970, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, has
strived to alleviate the onslaught of occupational injuries that have plagued American industries
since the Industrial Revolution by setting and implementing standards for safe and healthful
working environments (Dougherty, 2016). With an estimated130 million person workforce in the
United Statesalone, 2,200 OSHA employees across 10 regions conduct inspections to ensure
workplaces follow the laws and regulations set forth by the administration (United States
Department of Labor, 2016). Through its regulatory actions, development of instructional resources
for employers, and implementation of training programs, OSHA has saved an approximate 430,000

13) penalized by OSHA and a reduction in injuries in those specific categories, citing the
administration s effort to negatively signal firms to change their safety programs by
administering fines as a catalyst for that decline. While this study supports the notion that
OSHA has been effective in reducing injuries in the workplace, I will be building on the results
to determine if OSHA s efforts to reduce violations specific to Fall Protection (C, 1926.501), as
well as drawing attention to fall hazards, have been effective in reducing fall related fatalities in
totality, and those involving ladders, roofs, and scaffolds, in the construction industry over a span
of 23 years. Fall related accidents, unlike many others in the construction industry, are 100%
preventable if proper measures are in place. If the correlation between the year and the quantity of
fall related fatalities is statistically significant, it is confirmable that OSHA is moving closer to its
goal of alleviating injuries and deaths in one of the most dangerous industries in the United States.
Moreover, a statistically significant correlation, if present, will provide a regression line that will
allow researchers to predict the future quantities of fall related fatalities in the construction industry,
and in relationship to ladders, roofs, and scaffolds, enable OSHA to further

Silent Spring By Rachel Carson
The dominant theme of Silent Spring by Rachel Carson is the powerful and detrimental impact
humans have on the natural world. Carson s main argument is that pesticides have harmful effects
on the environment and lead to a loss of biodiversity and quality of life. Carson uses the pesticide
DDT throughout the book as she examines the effects of pesticides throughout the United States.
Though the majority of the book is focused on the effects of pesticides on our ecosystem
processes, she also touches on cases of pesticidepoisoning, cancer, and other diseases caused by
DDTand other chemicals that affect humans directly.
In the first few chapters she describes town where living things and the environment coexist in
peace but how, shortly after, the town is silent and the birds have stopped singing (Carson 13).
She explains that for the first time in the history, people will be exposed to chemicals from their
conception to their death. This was over 50 years ago, when man made pesticides had only been
around for about two decades. It prompts us to ask what level of exposure we are experiencing in
2015.
DDT was somewhat effective in killing off insect pests, but caused bird species to decline rapidly,
while harming other wildlife and human beings in the process. The chemical industry argued for
many years that DDT was completely harmless and Carson accuses the industry of spreading lies
and covering up the dangers of DDT.
The chemical industry is worth millions of dollars and

Disadvantages Of Multi Core Architecture
INTRODUCTION: Now industry tends towards multi core processor architecture rather than
single core. Many new applications are multi threaded like Database servers, Web servers,
Compilers, Scientific applications like CAD/CAM. In multi core microprocessor two or more
chips called cores shared same processor die. It seems that computer has different independent
separate processes. CPU IC has one or more chips which have separate ALUs and L1 caches.
These cores share some memory inside the CPU die called L2 or L3 caches. Cores use same
main memory for instruction and data fetch through common bus interface. Parallelism techniques
for execution are used like pipelining through dynamic scheduling. Multi core processor can
execute several threads parallel so increase in speed of processor. OS treats cores as separate
processors and splits the process in subset of threads that can run parallel on these cores resulting in
high performance. In multi core architecture clock rate is kept low to reduce heat and power
consumption but performance in high speed overall. Multi core architecture have many challenges
like increase in hardware complexity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

clock rate. As the clock rate increases, thermal design power (TDP) or output power increases. To
overcome this, developers redesign the micro architecture with changes in hardware and software
architectures[3]. Due to this, clock rate decreases from 3.6GHZ to 1.8GHZ with multi core
architecture .Intel introduces its first Pentium D multi core micro processor in 2005 with TDP 95

The Russian Military Involvement And The Actions Taken By...
Although Russia formally denied any military involvement in Ukraine, soldiers in unmarked
Russian fatigues entering the Crimean peninsula and the accidental placement of artillery pieces
beyond the Russo Ukrainian border didn t make it very hard to figure out who was responsible for
the invasion of Crimea. Everyone s theories were proven true when Russian President Vladimir
Putinofficially announced that the Russian Federation was annexing the Crimean Peninsula from
the Ukrainian government. In this paper, I will discuss the Russian military involvement in Ukraine
and the actions taken by the United States and Canada in response to these activities from the
perspective of Mearsheimer s five tenets of offensive neorealism.

Protests and violence continue until mid February, when the leaders of both the government and
the opposition agreed to create a new government, resulting in the diminishing of Yanukovich s
powers and his escaping out of Kiev when the protesters took control of the city and the former
Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, is installed as the interim leader. After these events, Aleksey
Chaly, a pro Russian leader, was elected as the new mayor of Sevastopol and supporters of the
Russian Federation began to take control of buildings around the Crimean Peninsula and set in
motion movements for Crimean separation. On February 28th, men in unmarked fatigues took
control of the Simferopol airport and a Military airfield near Sevastopol, following which, the
Russian government claimed that these military actions were in order to protect their fleet in the
Black Sea. In March, Russian troops continued to spread across Crimea and the Crimean Parliament
declared their wishes to join with Russia. At this time, the EU and the US gave their support to the
Ukrainian government by creating trade agreements and rejecting the Crimean Referendum. On
March 13th, the Ukrainian Parliament voted to create a national guard of 60,000 men that was
whole heartedly supported by the United Nations. Despite attempts by the EU and the UN,
President Putin signed a treaty that annexed Crimea from the

The Gaze
Today s audience is one of laziness. The majority of content consumers are not programed to
digest what they watch with a critical eye. While there is no real harm in this, there is room for
change and experimental media has been trying to provoke that change for decades. Bertolt Brecht
s theory and practice of alienation, or v effect, has been pulling audiences out of their comfort zone
for a long time through many different types of art and entertainment. Another topic of discussion
is The Gaze ; usually seen through the male s eye. Again, it is not harmful, but that is because it
has been engrained in the modern audience s brain that it is okay to view woman the way
entertainment says is okay. While they are two very different themes, alienation... Show more

Mainstream cinema (and culture) reinforces how we are to look at women (as objects, as
passive, as without agency, unworthy of our existential attention) (Week 8 Slides). While there
is nothing wrong with admiring the female form, it does raise some questions about how easily
susceptible audiences are to media. When the audience has ...come to accept the sexist tropes
and codes of mainstream Hollywood cinema as natural, inevitable and beyond reproach... (Week
8 Slides), there is a problem. The Gaze started early on in cinema and has continued to be
practiced in films even to today, if not more so today. One film in particular that sparked
controversy was Michael Powell s 1960 film Peeping Tom . The film is about a serial killer who
films his victims as they are murdered. This film ended up being banned in many places around
the world and was seen as one of the worst films. A few years later, Martin Scorsese brought the
movie back into the light and is now seen as one of the greatest cult films ever made. The reason
behind why it shifted from being appaling to being amazing, relies on the audience. Nothing about
the film has changed over the years, but the opinion of it has. How can this be? It has to do with
the audience s reaction and perception of the content. In 1960, audiences brains weren t trained to
fetishize woman like they are in today s modern films. The voyeuristic nature of the film

Why Hunting Should Be For Providing Food And Resources As...
Oh Deer There are multiple and personal ways to look at hunting, such as a way to provide life or
even a sport. There are also different tactics in hunting, such as high fence, low fence, endangered,
poaching and etc. Ethically I believe the means of hunting should purposely be for providing food
and resources as needed. More than 38 million Americans hunt and fish, as stated by nhfday.org.
These statistics were in 2012 and records have concluded that the numbers have increased since
then making huntinga higher demand. I believe as a hunter you should have a purpose for killing
an animal. For example, many hunt for the meat, but you can utilize the rest of the animal for
different resources, like bones or antlers being made into knives. Responsible hunters should be
defined as respectful to natural resources because hunting provides a way of life and population
control. Surveys are taken across the United States in various ways. In Texas we have multiple
ways in how we calculate the white tailed deerpopulation. Right now, our current ratio of doe s to
bucks is 10:1. We are overpopulated in both genders, but mainly in doe s which is why were
limited on how many bucks we are allowed to kill per season. For the hunting season of 2015
2016, you were allowed to kill 5 white tailed deer in total; only 3 are allowed to be bucks or
antlerless while the remaining 2 are strictly antlerless deer. Texas harvests the largest amount of
white tailed deer in the country

Determining Mastery For Instructional Strategies
Determining Mastery for Instructional Strategies Determining mastery can be a complex
procedure even for the most experienced educators. It involves not only a designated percentage
on assessments, but also must take into account the cognitive complexity of the assessment as
well as the nature of the learning goal students are being asked to master. This further requires
consideration for the rigor of expectations set for students performance (Guskey, 2001). An
assessment can contain items or tasks that are so challenging that even students who receive a
low cutoff score can be deemed as having achieved mastery. For example, think about the
Graduate Records Examination (GRE). Though a student may only answer half of the test
questions for the GRE physics exam correctly, due to the complexity of the questions, they will
have performed better than over 70 percent of those who take the test. Another factor in
determining mastery is professional judgement. Like it or not, scores on assessments aren t
always completely accurate and some level of professional judgement is required to adjust scores
for error, for example, slightly lowering the score out of concern for false rejection or incorrectly
classifying a master as a non master (Guskey Andermann, 2014). This false rejection could be
detrimental for borderline students in that it would affect their confidence and their desire to
continue pursuing mastery as well as causing otherwise talented students not to pass a

Apollonian And Dionysian
The Birth of Tragedy written by Nietzsche, brings up the idea of the two gods, Apollonian and
Dionysian. This greek essence of the gods are discussed in terms of their nature and what they
represent in terms of art and culture. He talks about the rebirth of tragedy and links music to it. In
greek mythology, Apollonian and Dionysian are sons of Zeus who has different views and
characteristics. Apollonian is calm and collective while Dionysian is chaotic and disorganized.
Dionysian is considered a sensual god who is more associated with contradictions, fire, frenzy, etc.
Whereas, Apollonian is about light, eloquence and morality. This clearly shows that their views
were very distinct when it came to worldly matters. An example of

An Analysis Of George Ritzer s Five Components Of...
McDonaldization McDonaldization is a term used by sociologist George Ritzer in his book The
McDonaldization of Society (1993). Ritzer uses McDonaldization to describe a sociological
phenomenon that is happening in our society. He explains that it becomes demonstrated when a
culture adopts the principles of a fast food restaurant. Essentially, the term McDonaldizationis the
process of rationalization. When Ritzer titled his book The McDonaldization of Society he is
actually referring to the rationalization of society. Thus, the use of the word McDonaldization
simply indicates that the fast foodrestaurant is one of many great examples of rationality. Ritzer
discusses five components of McDonaldization: efficiency, predictability, control,... Show more

For example, Safeway supermarket employees use non human technology to scan food in
barcodes. Non human technology does not only controls the workers but customers as well. For
instance, customers face a variety of structural barriers and they follow the norms when they enter
a Safeway supermarket for they have to walk down aisles to obtain their desired goods. All of
these are ways to control customers at the Safeway supermarkets to act in a manner in which the
business wants them to act. The effects of non human technology in supermarkets illustrate how
they are controlling customers wants and needs. The idea of a rationalized system can also
become inefficient when there are too many regulations, which leads to irrationality. Although
Safeway supermarkets find it efficient to stock up on all products, it is not efficient when you
have to wade through the mini departments of the deli, the bakery, the fresh produce section, and
aisle after aisle just to find what you are looking for. Another example of irrationality is that
people know fast food is not good for their health but yet they still eat it, because it is efficient,
cheap, and fast. People have taken McDonaldization to the next level where if they cannot have
their dinner made within fifteen minutes they find something else that is quick and easy such as
going to Safeway and purchasing frozen microwavable

Buddha practiced a breathing technique which involved retaining the breath for longer and
longer periods of time, a headache was a result of this. He moved on to a new technique which he
only ate a teaspoon of bean soup a day, his hair started to fall out and he could not sit upright.
After that technique failed he realized that his appetite should be moderated. You should not deny
it or indulge in excess. Canons are a collection of scriptures that contains the Buddha teachings.
The Buddha did not make himself a leader therefore he did not need a successor. After the Buddha
was gone everyone should follow the Dharma and the monks should hold on to this and the Vinaya,
which is the rules he laid down for the regulation of monastic life.
Buddhism reached China in the first century. At that time Han Dynasty had consolidated Chinese
power in Central Asia. Confucianism was the dominant ideology in China, which is socio ethical
principles deriving from the teaching of the sage. Buddhism seemed to conflict with some
Confucian values because Confucianism regarded the family as the foundation of society, and the
Buddhist leave their families and renounce. Buddhism seemed to take up where Confucianism left
off, and described an unseen world about which Confucianism had little to say about. When the
people enquired about death, Confucius gave this answer: You cannot know about death before you

In the fairy tale Rapunzel , the dreamer, Rapunzel, successfully passes through all the Freudian
psychosexual stages of development. Symbolism helps to illustrate the dreamer s movement
through the five stages. The Witch portrays the super ego figure in Rapunzel . Rapunzel s
mother plays the Id figure. The events of Rapunzel s life lead the reader to identify the dream as

His act of agreement transitions the dreamer to the anal stage. The witch takes the baby as part of
the agreement, naming her Rapunzel, another word for rampion, symbolizing another oral image.
When Rapunzel turns twelve, the witch locks her in a tower to hide her beauty from the world.
Although the tower represents phallic image, it also symbolizes how the dreamer becomes anal
retentive. The tower had neither stairs nor doors, only high up at the very top a small window ;
the witch tries to keep Rapunzel from the outside world, in theory, keeping her in (1). During the
anal stage, a normal child learns to control ones bodily functions. Thus, Rapunzel becomes
dependent on the witch. As the story continues, a prince happens upon the tower and learns that
the entrance to Rapunzel s tower is by her, long blonde hair. So the next day he comes to the
tower, and repeats the witch s words Let down your golden hair and the Prince climbs up (2). At
first, the prince scares Rapunzel but he then spoke to her so kindly and that his heart had been so
touched by her singing (2). Rapunzel undergoes sexual identification through the prince, another
indication of the phallic stage. The prince then offers to help Rapunzel leave the tower and to marry
him (2). Rapunzel agrees to the prince s plan, and in effect, she attempts to leave the anal stage. But
when her escape is eminent she slips in revealing that she communicates with the prince. After her

Lucius Vitellius the Elder (in office in 35 AD) and into Hispania at the same time by Flaccus

A value is a sociological concept of the dominant culture, such as Anglophile and Francophile
culture, which has become the dominant culture system of interaction in these Canadian groupings.
In the current Syrian immigrant crisis, many Canadians fear that a massive influx of Syrians will
threat the dominance of their Eurocentric value system. In fact, Reid (2016) suggests in his poll
findings that many Canadians feel that Syrians should adapt to Canadian norms, instead of
practicing their own culture: Canadians say they would prefer that minorities do more to fit in with
mainstream Canada (para.8). This aspect of Eurocentric values include speaking English and
French languages, but more importantly, that Syrians will be asked to forfeit their own cultural
values to adapt into Canadian society. This is the underlying conflict in the immigrant crisis, which
is fueling anti immigrant findings in the polls done by Reid in Canadian society. This aspect of
social conflict theory illustrates the cultural values of European society that are attempting for
force the Syrians to rebuild their lives as Europeans , and not Syrians. This aspect of
multiculturalism in Canada is being challenged by the increasingly Eurocentric value systems that
oppose the arrival of Syrians into the country. In this manner, Reid (2016) is attempting to dispel

Critical Analysis Of Slaughterhouse-Five
Slaughterhouse Five is Kurt Vonnegut s commentary on war. While the main focus is the
bombing of Dresden during World War II, the book isn t really about Dresden; Vonnegut merely
uses this specific battle as a method to express his strong sentiment against war in general. In the
early part of the novel, Vonnegut narrates his visit to Bernard O Hare s home. O Hare s wife,
Mary suddenly launches into an angry outburst after mumbling to herself for a time, and
Vonnegut says She [Mary O Hare] had been talking to herself, so what she said was a fragment of
a much larger conversation (Vonnegut 18). Likewise, Vonnegut s reference to the Children s
Crusade and his use of it as the alternative title for the book is a fragment of a much larger... Show

The introduction of such themes is significant because it plays an important role in situating the
reader and providing historical context. In including the excerpt from the book, which is a study
of crowd psychology, Vonnegut is borrowing wholesale from a history text. This text seeps into
the voice of the narrator and subliminally impacts how the reader interprets the narrative. This is a
method of foreshadowing the ideas that come later in the book in various forms and priming the
reader to think in a certain way. Using this historical text also lends credibility to Vonnegut s
writing, since the book he cites is often cited as the best book ever written about market psychology.
Historically, the Children s Crusade resulted from the glamorization of war in children s eyes, as
evidenced in the next part of the intertext: History in her solemn page...pathway of blood and tears.
Romance, on the other hand, dilates upon their piety and heroism, and portrays, in her most
glowing and impassioned hues, their virtue and magnanimity, the imperishable honor they acquired
for themselves, and the great services they rendered to Christianity. (Vonnegut 20). The romantic
representation of war is contrasted with the true historical representation of war by use of the
phrase on the other hand , implying that the historical and romantic portrayals of war cannot
possibly coexist. A major theme in the book is the lack of glamor and dignity in war. Vonnegut uses
this intertext to

Identity Development
When people want to figure out their identity, they ll have to change their perspective, on how

F. Salinger s The Catcher Of The Rye
One of the best known novels in English speaking countries, J.D Salinger s Catcher In The Rye
deals with Holden Caulfield s past trauma which is the triggering factor in his depression,
anxiety and alienation. Holden tells an unnamed person what has happened in the three days
prior to his mental breakdown. Through Holden s relatable characteristics and Salinger s
narrative treatment, the book continues to engage audiences across generations. The way that
Salinger writes gives the audience a very personal and insightful look into what Holden is
feeling. It s told in the first person, in a confessional style, and utilises digression. This creates a
sense of closeness with the protagonist. It s like Holden is talking directly to the reader.
Salinger s use of stream of consciousness also makes it feel like it really is coming from the mind
of a seventeen year old boy: I mean girls should smell a certain way like baby powder, new
clothes and perfume ... I hate Old Spice ... Christ, I must be nuts. All of a sudden I start to
imagine myself as the old sailor ... Holden s character still engages audiences in the 21st century
because he deals with the problems that adolescents still face like rebellion, sexuality and the loss
of innocence. The novel doesn t feel outdated at all, even though it was written in a very different
time. One of the main focuses of the book is Holden s alienation from other people, which I think
stems from his traumatic past. The loss of his brother

examination is determined by clinical judgment, patient s history, and nature of the problem. The
classification of E M services endorse four types of clinical medical decision making:
straightforward, low complexity, moderate complexity, and high complexity. Clinical decisions
refer to the complexity of establishing a diagnosis or choosing a management option. The
complexity is determined by the volume of possible diagnoses or management options, and the
volume or complexity of medical records, diagnostic tests, or other information that must be
obtained, reviewed, and analyzed. The risk of complications, morbidity or mortality, and
comorbidities associated with the patient s problem, the diagnostic procedure or management
options also determines the classification of medical decision making (Department of Health and

value based divisions (LOFT and its clearance centers) has captured the value market. The pricing

In my opinion, I think I can partly identify with David Wilkerson because of the way he treated
people. I m a girl of my words, what ever I say, I will do. David Wilkerson said he wanted to help
Nicky, and that is what he did. I m not a 100% peace maker, but I know when to be mature and
bring peace and I know when to be loud and noisy. There is a time, in a place.
Also, the fact that David wanted to make someone s life better and make them realize that god/love/
energy is the power of all humanity. I try to do that. I try my hardest, to make everyone feel special
and love themselves.
I have many perspectives of the movie. Though, the feeling that often returns is fear. I loved the
movie because it is was very inspirational, but I felt fear because this was what our world was a
long time ago and it still is now. I felt that the movie was describing reality.
I said the movie was inspirational because if someone tries hard enough, they can change you in
a negative and positive way, but if you try twice as hard, you can change yourself in which ever
way you desire. The movie itself might have changed people lives, you saw the point of views
from both sides. Negative and positive. Now its your turn to determine that path you wish to seek.
David Wilkerson had done a lot of great things. I know a lot of people that are based off David
Wilkerson. What I mean by based off, I m implying that some folks act like David Wilkerson,

I have the skill set to succeed in any optometry school program. I have perfected time management
and teamwork skills through multiple leadership roles. This includes, Vice President of The Future
Optometry Students of America and Student Association Treasurer (PSA). In addition, I have
learned the essentials of clinical patient care particularly within the pediatric population at three
prestigious hospitals; Miami Children s Hospital, Baptist Health Pediatric Unit, and University of

The Genetics For Mongol Migration
Maryann Steadman
ANTH 3125
2014, October 11th
Reflection Paper One
Genetics for Mongol Migration Mongolia is located in between Russia and China, and is a
neighbor to Kazakhstan. The people that live there are called Mongols. Mongolia, which is part of
Asia, is part of what composes Eurasia. When it comes to DNA and chromosomal lineage, there are
many factors that lead to how a person will look, who they will mate with, and what decisions they
make in that process. These categories all run under the term genetics. The second week s lecture
said that there are three major types of genetic data. There is autosomal, Y chromosome, and
mitochondrial DNA. Autosomal is a combination of your mother and father s DNA that makes
you. Y chromosomes come from your father and are given to a son, and mitochondrial DNA
comes from your mother. Everyone has the autosomal and mitochondrial aspects of genetics.
The mitochondrial makeup is just what genes you got from your mother. However, only males
have the Y chromosome aspect of genetics since males sex genes are comprised of XY while
females are XX. Mongols (and their language of Mongolic) originally came from the Altai
Mountains, which are near Mongolia (week lecture two). In the second week s lecture it is also
noted that Mongolia may have been the original location for starting Y chromosomal lineage. In
Zerial s article, The Genetic Legacy of the Mongols, it talks about Mongols being a star cluster for
other people.

How Did Latin American Culture Develop
The term Latin America encompasses not only South and Central America but the Caribbean also.
The many different ethnicities and cultures present in Latin American music make it diverse and

ACTION RESEARCH IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT A FRAMEWORK FOR
RELEVANT AND RIGOROUS RESEARCH by Dag Näslund University of North Florida and

INTRODUCTION Scholars in the field of business management have frequently debated the
relative importance of rigor and relevance in business research. In fact, there are an increasing
number of articles that discuss the problems associated with the lack of relevance in published
business research. Relevant research develops insights that help managers understand themselves

In spite of its potential to address relevant research questions, few published action research based
articles exist within the field of supply chain management (Näslund 2002). In fact, these studies
are so rare that they almost constitute the White Space of research in the field (Frankel and
Näslund 2005). One reason for this reluctance to adopt AR can be attributed to the lack of rigor in
some of the previously published works. Alvesson (1996, p.456) wrote ...much qualitative research
is as superficial as questionnaire studies. Case research has, unfortunately, been used as an excuse
for industrial tourism visiting lots of organisations without any pre conceived ideas as to what is
being researched (Voss, Tsikriktsis, and Frohlich 2002, p.196). Similarly, a criticism of AR is that
it more resembles consulting versus rigorous research; that is, consulting masquerading as research
(Coughlan and Coghlan 2002, p.237). Naturally, being applied and relevant cannot and should not
be an excuse for doing research that is not rigorous. Accordingly, when a rigorous methodology is
adopted, AR can provide significant research contributions for both practice and academia. With the
belief that rigor and relevance are essential

The Impact Of Technology In Foreign AffairsBy Alison Lurie
In today s changing world, technology has influenced most everyone. In this new age, many
different opinions and controversies have arose. Foreign Affairs, a novel by Alison Lurie, uses
fictional characters and events to create ideas, illustrated in the novel, that compel the reader to
think about common societal issues and their causes. Foreign Affairs uses characters ideas on
tourism and places emphasis on societal norms and the characters opinions of them as a catalyst to
nudge the reader into this thought about common issues in society. Virginia (Vinnie) Miner, an
advanced professor at Corinth University in the novel, illustrates societal behaviors and their
impact on her. Fred Turner, another professor at Corinth University in the novel, discusses tourism
and his opinions of it with friends in London, England. Plato s Allegory of the Cave , Comic by
Scott McCloud, and Adam Gopnik s article Stones and Bones can be used as lensesto view Foreign
Affairs. When using McCloud s lens, the emphasis on societal behaviors and tourism in Foreign
Affairs, acts as a vehicle for cogitation on the reader s part about the actual and representational
and their roles in the world today. Plato s lens, when applied to Foreign Affairs, leads the reader
to consider the effects of people living in a representational world as opposed to living in the
actual world. Gopnik s lens addresses aspects of tourism that lack the actual culture and emotion
behind an event or place, leading to a

But once you know about the benefits of long distance running, you ll be excited to get your feet on
the running track.
1.Burns Calories
Okay, this one is an obvious but major benefit of long distance running. Nothing else can burn
your calories like a long run can. Do you know that running burns calories faster than any other
physical activity or exercise in the world. It turns your body into a fat burning machine. You can
burn more than 500 calories in a single 30 minute run. Running for long distances helps in
improving after burn capabilities of your body, which means that your body is capable of burning
fat even after running.
Apart from burning some serious calories, running also improves your metabolism, which means
that your body can now process more calories efficiently. Thus, it prevents calories from becoming
body fat in the first place.
2.Better Sleep
One of the major advantages of long distance running is that it improves the overall quality of
your sleep. It also positively affects your sleeping patterns. Regular long distance runners sleep
faster and deeper for longer intervals of time without waking up. It is also known that individuals

Definition Of Sanctity Of Human Life
Definition:
Sanctity of human life refers to the fact that human life, due to the fact that humans are created in
the image of God and share His likeness, is valued over the lives of plants and animals. Unlike
plants and animals, God blessed us with the ability to experience and convey emotion. Humans
also can be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ or condemned to hell if they choose not to accept
Christ. Man is the only being created in the image of God, therefore having the aforementioned
blessings of emotion and salvation, making man so much more important. When people ignore this
fundamental and necessary sanctity of life, terrible things like abortion and mass shootings occur.
History:
A biblical example of a violation of the sanctity of human life is in Genesis 4, the story of Cain and
Abel. Cain violated the sanctity of human life and killed his own brother simply because Abel s
sacrifice was accepted by God, but Cain s was not. Cain did not give his best to God in the
offering, but instead of dealing with his own shortcomings with God, he murdered his brother
out of anger and jealousy. By not fixing his own heart issue, he committed a vile sin that would
forever shape his own life and the life of his descendents. There are many modern examples of
this disregard for the value of life, such as: abortion, mass shootings, suicides, and suicide
bombers. One major example is the recent Los Vegas shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival
where 59 people were killed and at

Remember to always think of the future. Once it s all implemented and built, you can administer
your network.
When administrating a network, you have to ensure critical services have as close to 100%
uptime, because if they are down, your users are going to hassle you all the time and that can be
quite annoying with some users. When maintaining a network, you also have a number of other
tasks to perform every day. These include:
User management
Adding, removing and apply security to user accounts and groups
Hardware
Upgrading hardware
Replacing faulting hardware
Software
Providing support for applications and operating systems
Ensuring critical data is being backed up
Monitoring
Monitor the system
Checking logs
Conducting security audits
Support
Attending to users help requests
Writing documentation
One of the hardest challenges in administrating a network is application support. You can very
rarely just add a major application or a network service without any issues. Your network will need
to support it. For example, you cannot host a website if you only have dialup internet. Other factors
that are needed to be taken into consideration are:
Does it need to be secured? Both physically and virtually; internally and externally
Can the application be supported Are their people who know how to use the application?
What risks will it introduce? Viruses, Hackers, privacy?
Is there enough network capacity to

INTRODUCTION
Our group has been given the task for subject Anatomy and Physiology to do a research about
disease. The title of our study is Osteoporosis. The aim of our assignment is to find the information
about the clinical condition that change the normal structures of the bones and how the disease
affect our daily life.
Osteoporosis is a disease that arise when our normal structures of the bone changes as it becomes
fragile and break easily. One interesting fact is that, almost one in two women and one in five men
over the age of 50 will break a bone, mainly due to poor bone health( An Introduction to
Osteoporosis, n.d.).
Osteoporosis is common for post menopausal women. However men, younger women, children
and pregnant women can also be affected. To simply put it,osteoporosis affects all individuals and

Thus, bone modeling and remodeling preserve skeletal function throughout human life. The bone
remodeling unit normally couples the bone resorption and bone formation. Research by
Teitelbaum and Ross (2003) indicated that, the bone remodeling process regulates the gain and
loss of bone mineral density in the human skeleton and directly influenced bone strength and vice
versa. In bone remodelling process, resorption of extra cellular matrices by osteoclasts is followed
by osteoblastic invasion of the cavity, and subsequent secretion of extra cellular matrix that is then
mineralized (Ducy et al., 2000). These two processes, which together are called bone remodeling,
occur continuously (Riggs et al., 2002). However, due to some of listed factors mentioned above,
these processes turn out to be distracted and cauce osteoporosis (Rouhi,

To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis
To Kill A Mockingbird takes place during the 1930 s, a time of intense racial inequity and
prejudice. Harper Lee intends for the novel to display the harsh reality to the real world, and
exhibit how life and society were really like during this period in history. Humanity s views and
morals have shown little sign of ever being able to accept change or difference as seen in
particular issues such as racism, discrimination, sexism, prejudice etc. Whilst reading the novel,
readers can identify these well known problems and maybe even relate to some of the ideas that
Lee is portraying. Lee uses symbols to effectively communicate and express her thoughts and
opinions on the various themes of the book. Moreover, these symbols are able to tap into the
subconscious mind to implement ideas that can be analyzed in order to understand their
relevance to not only the plot line and major theme topics of the novel: appearance versus
reality, conscience and integrity, and loss of innocence, but also to modern society. At first
glance, Maycomb appears to be a quaint, peaceful town. Lee later proves this to be a common
misconception made by outsiders. Throughout the novel, we come to learn the true nature and
life of Maycomb. Underneath the picture perfect image, there is a disease spreading, infiltrating
and infecting the minds of Maycomb. (pg 117). Jem, I ain t ever heard of a nigger snowman, I said.
To this Jem replies with He won t be black for long. (Lee pg 89) The snowman is a

Uniform Crime Report
There have been numerous opinions as well as criticism on how crime should be measured in the
United States. FBI, and U.S. Census are a few of the government agencies who utilize crime
reporting methods such as Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), National Incident Based reporting
system (NIBRS), and National CrimeVictimization Survey (NCVS). Each method is created in
order to give us an estimation of crime rate, so the process to reducing it could begin. Looking at
the history of each report, then review their similarities and their differences, to finally analyzing
varies criticisms, will help in the understanding if these crime reporting methods are effective.

How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Maggot Movement
The Effect Of Temperature On The Rate Of Maggot Movement. Environmental Systems and
Societies Planning Lab Gaurav Iyer
Research Question
To what extent does temperature affect the movement of Maggots?
Introduction
This Experiment aims to analyze the behaviour of the maggots in a particular temperature.
Behaviour of the maggots is defined as the way they respond to their surrounding and environment.
Maggots are organisms which react by quickly and a series of varied reflex reactions are shown and
adapted. These kinds of actions are very important for keeping itself in a particular environment to
live. Therefore, it would be expected that all maggots react in the same way to show a particular
behavioural trend. Temperature is an environmental factor that will affect the maggot s behaviour.
The temperature in the environment helps the maggots determine their rate of metabolism and its
internal temperature. These organisms move according to the environmental temperature. A trend
can be found to show the effect of temperature on the rate of movement of maggots.
Hypothesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At higher temperatures, chemical reactions such as metabolism happen more faster because of the
increase in kinetic energy of the particles. As metabolism supplies the organism with energy, there
will be more energy produced at high temperatures. Thus, at higher temperatures the maggots will
move more quickly as their pacy rate of metabolism gives them energy to do so. Also, if the
temperature is too high for the maggots, there will be a decrease in the metabolic speed because of
killing of enzymes which will cause the maggots to move

Parson and Sociology
Parsons most significant contribution to Sociology derives from the supposition that action does
not exist in some vacuous state. Instead he argues that action(s) should be considered within the
context of a broader system comprised of boundaries and the maintenance of such boundaries. He
seems to suggest that appropriating the action system paradigm, to be discussed below, provides the
most useful framework for analyzing social phenomena. In The Structure of Social Action (1937),
Parsons lays the foundations for the establishment of the prevailing theoretical tradition (i.e.,
structural functionalism) in American Sociologyspanning decades. Although this meta theoretical
approach received harsh criticism from conflict theorists in particular, its attempt to bring
sophisticated and careful thinking to understanding how social scientists might examine social
systems should not be dismissed. It is neither my intent nor responsibility to rehearse the
extensions or criticisms offered by later theorists, but, rather, to focus on a few critical aspects of
Parsons initial efforts to engage in an ongoing scholarly conversation. In doing so, I argue that
although Parson s synthesizes the work of classical theorists, he is doing so in an effort to
extrapolate the critical raw materials that might allow him to move beyond classical theoretical
approaches to an analysis of the social world rather than charting a completely new course. The
degree to which I am persuaded by

Chartists and Chartism Essays
Chartists and Chartism
Chartism was the name of a variety of protest movements in England during the 1830s and 40s,
which aimed to bring about change in social and economic conditions through political reform. Its
name comes from the People s Charter, a six point petition presented to the House of Commons
with the hope of having it made law. The six point included annual parliaments, universal manhood
suffrage, abolition of the property qualification for members of the House of Commons, the secret
ballot, equal electoral districts, and salaries for members of Parliament.
This was the first independent working class movement in the world, that is, not simply sporadic
uprisings or agitation, and arose after the Reform Bill of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Convention then proclaimed a general strike, but many had no employer to strike against, and
the Convention broke up after riots in various parts of England and Wales, with many leaders
arrested and troops sent in by the government. A similar petition was presented in 1842, another
bad time, with even more signatures, and was again firmly rejected. Again there were strikes; again
leaders were jailed.
1848, the year Mary Barton was published, saw a final demonstration by the Chartists. This time
they had collected over 5,000,000 signatures and the presentation to the Parliament was attended
with great ceremony; an impressive parade carried the wagon loads of signatures to the House of
Commons. This was the year of revolution in Europe there had been revolts in Paris, Vienna (3),
Venice, Berlin, Milan, Rome, and Czechoslovakia and the British government was desperately
afraid of large scale demonstrations. Many troops were deployed in London and the petition failed
again, which brought about the virtual end of Chartism.
` The supporters of Chartism were from different working class groups, but all were victims of the
Industrial Revolution. One group consisted of the older handicrafts and domestic skills those who
worked on commission in their homes, at looms or knitting frames, under the so called putting out
system, where their materials were supplied by a factor or middleman who later came to collect the
finished work. The other main group was

In What Major Ways Did Confucian Philosophy Manifest...
1. In what major ways did Confucian philosophy manifest itself in Chinese society during the Ming
and/or Qing dynasties?
It is clear from examining the philosophical thought and social trends during both the Qing and
Ming dynasties that Confucian thought and ideology had a profound effect on Chinese society and
moral values during that period.
Confucian philosophy is an ethical and philosophical thinking system thought to have been
developed from the teachings of Kong Fuzi, known as Confucius who lived between 551 478 BC
in China. [1]The essence of Confucianism is that the human mind can be cultivated through virtue
and moral perfection. Confucianism has had tremendous influence on Chinese history and culture
as well as other East Asian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This branch of Neo Confucianism was known as The School of principle . Although his works
were written during the Song Dynasty, by the time of the Ming and Qing dynasty, they had been
adopted as key text for the imperial examinations which meant that most of the educated men of
that period would have a high of understanding of his thought. [11]One of Zhu Xi s most famous
books was the book family rituals where he offered advice on many rituals including how to
conduct weddings, funerals, family ceremonies, and the veneration of ancestors.[12] Zhu Xi was
also known for implementing Buddhist thought into his philosophy. He argued for a Buddhist sense
of high moral and also argued that one should engage in both academic and philosophical
pursuits.[13]
The other branch of neo Confucianism advocated by Wang Yang Ming was known as the school of
mind which was founded by Ch eng Hao (1032 1085). [14] Although this school of thought also
believed that the material world was built from a single immaterial principle, the difference was that
this principle existed solely in the human mind. Wang Yang Ming believed that the principle of the
universe is equivalent to the human mind and that the practice of humanity, referred to as jen
unifies man with the universe. Wang Yang Ming expanded on this saying that innate knowledge
can manifest the original mind that is equivalent to the universe.[15] The innate knowledge, in his
opinion, represented the

Perception Of Reality In The Allegory Of The Cave
The issue in the philosophy of perception is explaining how perception could give someone
either knowledge or a justified belief about the world. We recognize this reality to be something
which we cannot change in any way. However, it can not be said about the perception of reality
being completely true. The strange thing of all this is that reality may not actually exist. The
reason we all think in one reality is that we only see our central point of the story. Just because
someone sees something in a specific way does not make it so. This problem has been viewed in
terms of a skeptical argument that appears to show that such knowledge and premise are
impossible. Although I agree that perceptionof life may or may not be true, I cannot accept... Show

Plato has also inquired about our perception. He states that there are two kinds of perception:
sensory perception and spiritual perception. Sensory perception is the world of aspect, in which
we perceive, with the support of our sensory organs. For this reason, the world is the world of
illusion. It is the world of shadows so in Plato s view, it is the world of falsification. The reality or
truth is impossible to perceive through our senses. This extensive metaphor symbolizes how we
humans have the ability to seek for philosophical knowledge or the light, but one will never
experience the Truth, the sun, for the reason that it is what causes blindness for possessing too
much knowledge. Although, experiencing the Truth can be achieved through spiritual perception,
which is divine understanding. Spiritual enlightenment is unique for each individual, but there are
some recognizable signs. First, one stops both suffering and struggling, which are also products of
the mind. You will actually have trouble relating to how you used to manage to suffer, and
emotions become valued messengers rather than problems. Spiritual perception can be possible
when we reject the world of sensory perception, so until and unless we break all the material
chains, we will not have spiritual perception. It is the exemplary philosophy of Plato and his
spiritual perception as an ideal

  • 2. OSHA Prevention Upon its creation in 1970, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, has strived to alleviate the onslaught of occupational injuries that have plagued American industries since the Industrial Revolution by setting and implementing standards for safe and healthful working environments (Dougherty, 2016). With an estimated130 million person workforce in the United Statesalone, 2,200 OSHA employees across 10 regions conduct inspections to ensure workplaces follow the laws and regulations set forth by the administration (United States Department of Labor, 2016). While this study supports the notion that OSHA has been effective in reducing injuries in the workplace, I will be building on the results to determine if OSHA s efforts to reduce violations specific to Fall Protection (C, 1926.501), as well as drawing attention to fall hazards, have been effective in reducing fall related fatalities in totality, and those involving ladders, roofs, and scaffolds, in the construction industry over a span of 23 years. Fall related accidents, unlike many others in the construction industry, are 100% preventable if proper measures are in place. If the correlation between the year and the quantity of fall related fatalities is statistically significant, it is confirmable that OSHA is moving closer to its goal of alleviating injuries and deaths in one of the most dangerous industries in the United States. Moreover, a statistically significant correlation, if present, will provide a regression line that will allow researchers to predict the future quantities of fall related fatalities in the construction industry, and in relationship to ladders, roofs, and scaffolds, enable OSHA to further ... • 4. Silent Spring By Rachel Carson The dominant theme of Silent Spring by Rachel Carson is the powerful and detrimental impact humans have on the natural world. Carson s main argument is that pesticides have harmful effects on the environment and lead to a loss of biodiversity and quality of life. Carson uses the pesticide DDT throughout the book as she examines the effects of pesticides throughout the United States. Though the majority of the book is focused on the effects of pesticides on our ecosystem processes, she also touches on cases of pesticidepoisoning, cancer, and other diseases caused by DDTand other chemicals that affect humans directly. In the first few chapters she describes town where living things and the environment coexist in peace but how, shortly after, the town is silent and the birds have stopped singing (Carson 13). She explains that for the first time in the history, people will be exposed to chemicals from their conception to their death. This was over 50 years ago, when man made pesticides had only been around for about two decades. It prompts us to ask what level of exposure we are experiencing in 2015. DDT was somewhat effective in killing off insect pests, but caused bird species to decline rapidly, while harming other wildlife and human beings in the process. The chemical industry argued for many years that DDT was completely harmless and Carson accuses the industry of spreading lies and covering up the dangers of DDT. The chemical industry is worth millions of dollars and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Disadvantages Of Multi Core Architecture INTRODUCTION: Now industry tends towards multi core processor architecture rather than single core. Many new applications are multi threaded like Database servers, Web servers, Compilers, Scientific applications like CAD/CAM. In multi core microprocessor two or more chips called cores shared same processor die. It seems that computer has different independent separate processes. CPU IC has one or more chips which have separate ALUs and L1 caches. These cores share some memory inside the CPU die called L2 or L3 caches. Cores use same main memory for instruction and data fetch through common bus interface. Parallelism techniques for execution are used like pipelining through dynamic scheduling. Multi core processor can execute several threads parallel so increase in speed of processor. OS treats cores as separate processors and splits the process in subset of threads that can run parallel on these cores resulting in high performance. In multi core architecture clock rate is kept low to reduce heat and power consumption but performance in high speed overall. Multi core architecture have many challenges like increase in hardware complexity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Russia formally denied any military involvement in Ukraine, soldiers in unmarked Russian fatigues entering the Crimean peninsula and the accidental placement of artillery pieces beyond the Russo Ukrainian border didn t make it very hard to figure out who was responsible for the invasion of Crimea. Everyone s theories were proven true when Russian President Vladimir Putinofficially announced that the Russian Federation was annexing the Crimean Peninsula from the Ukrainian government. After these events, Aleksey Chaly, a pro Russian leader, was elected as the new mayor of Sevastopol and supporters of the Russian Federation began to take control of buildings around the Crimean Peninsula and set in motion movements for Crimean separation. On February 28th, men in unmarked fatigues took control of the Simferopol airport and a Military airfield near Sevastopol, following which, the Russian government claimed that these military actions were in order to protect their fleet in the Black Sea. • 7. The Gaze Today s audience is one of laziness. The majority of content consumers are not programed to digest what they watch with a critical eye. While there is no real harm in this, there is room for change and experimental media has been trying to provoke that change for decades. Bertolt Brecht s theory and practice of alienation, or v effect, has been pulling audiences out of their comfort zone for a long time through many different types of art and entertainment. Another topic of discussion is The Gaze ; usually seen through the male s eye. Again, it is not harmful, but that is because it has been engrained in the modern audience s brain that it is okay to view woman the way entertainment says is okay. While they are two very different themes, alienation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mainstream cinema (and culture) reinforces how we are to look at women (as objects, as passive, as without agency, unworthy of our existential attention) (Week 8 Slides). While there is nothing wrong with admiring the female form, it does raise some questions about how easily susceptible audiences are to media. When the audience has ...come to accept the sexist tropes and codes of mainstream Hollywood cinema as natural, inevitable and beyond reproach... (Week 8 Slides), there is a problem. The Gaze started early on in cinema and has continued to be practiced in films even to today, if not more so today. One film in particular that sparked controversy was Michael Powell s 1960 film Peeping Tom . The film is about a serial killer who films his victims as they are murdered. This film ended up being banned in many places around the world and was seen as one of the worst films. A few years later, Martin Scorsese brought the movie back into the light and is now seen as one of the greatest cult films ever made. The reason behind why it shifted from being appaling to being amazing, relies on the audience. Nothing about the film has changed over the years, but the opinion of it has. How can this be? It has to do with the audience s reaction and perception of the content. In 1960, audiences brains weren t trained to fetishize woman like they are in today s modern films. • 8. Why Hunting Should Be For Providing Food And Resources As... Oh Deer There are multiple and personal ways to look at hunting, such as a way to provide life or even a sport. There are also different tactics in hunting, such as high fence, low fence, endangered, poaching and etc. Ethically I believe the means of hunting should purposely be for providing food and resources as needed. More than 38 million Americans hunt and fish, as stated by nhfday.org. These statistics were in 2012 and records have concluded that the numbers have increased since then making huntinga higher demand. I believe as a hunter you should have a purpose for killing an animal. For example, many hunt for the meat, but you can utilize the rest of the animal for different resources, like bones or antlers being made into knives. Responsible hunters should be defined as respectful to natural resources because hunting provides a way of life and population control. Surveys are taken across the United States in various ways. In Texas we have multiple ways in how we calculate the white tailed deerpopulation. Right now, our current ratio of doe s to bucks is 10:1. We are overpopulated in both genders, but mainly in doe s which is why were limited on how many bucks we are allowed to kill per season. For the hunting season of 2015 2016, you were allowed to kill 5 white tailed deer in total; only 3 are allowed to be bucks or antlerless while the remaining 2 are strictly antlerless deer. • 9. Determining Mastery For Instructional Strategies Determining Mastery for Instructional Strategies Determining mastery can be a complex procedure even for the most experienced educators. It involves not only a designated percentage on assessments, but also must take into account the cognitive complexity of the assessment as well as the nature of the learning goal students are being asked to master. This further requires consideration for the rigor of expectations set for students performance (Guskey, 2001). An assessment can contain items or tasks that are so challenging that even students who receive a low cutoff score can be deemed as having achieved mastery. For example, think about the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). Though a student may only answer half of the test questions for the GRE physics exam correctly, due to the complexity of the questions, they will have performed better than over 70 percent of those who take the test. Another factor in determining mastery is professional judgement. Like it or not, scores on assessments aren t always completely accurate and some level of professional judgement is required to adjust scores for error, for example, slightly lowering the score out of concern for false rejection or incorrectly classifying a master as a non master (Guskey Andermann, 2014). This false rejection could be detrimental for borderline students in that it would affect their confidence and their desire to continue pursuing mastery as well as causing otherwise talented students not to pass a ... • 11. An Analysis Of George Ritzer s Five Components Of... McDonaldization McDonaldization is a term used by sociologist George Ritzer in his book The McDonaldization of Society (1993). Ritzer uses McDonaldization to describe a sociological phenomenon that is happening in our society. He explains that it becomes demonstrated when a culture adopts the principles of a fast food restaurant. Essentially, the term McDonaldizationis the process of rationalization. When Ritzer titled his book The McDonaldization of Society he is actually referring to the rationalization of society. Thus, the use of the word McDonaldization simply indicates that the fast foodrestaurant is one of many great examples of rationality. Ritzer discusses five components of McDonaldization: efficiency, predictability, control,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Safeway supermarket employees use non human technology to scan food in barcodes. Non human technology does not only controls the workers but customers as well. For instance, customers face a variety of structural barriers and they follow the norms when they enter a Safeway supermarket for they have to walk down aisles to obtain their desired goods. All of these are ways to control customers at the Safeway supermarkets to act in a manner in which the business wants them to act. The effects of non human technology in supermarkets illustrate how they are controlling customers wants and needs. The idea of a rationalized system can also become inefficient when there are too many regulations, which leads to irrationality. Although Safeway supermarkets find it efficient to stock up on all products, it is not efficient when you have to wade through the mini departments of the deli, the bakery, the fresh produce section, and aisle after aisle just to find what you are looking for. Another example of irrationality is that people know fast food is not good for their health but yet they still eat it, because it is efficient, cheap, and fast. People have taken McDonaldization to the next level where if they cannot have their dinner made within fifteen minutes they find something else that is quick and easy such as going to Safeway and purchasing frozen microwavable ... In fact, Reid (2016) suggests in his poll findings that many Canadians feel that Syrians should adapt to Canadian norms, instead of practicing their own culture: Canadians say they would prefer that minorities do more to fit in with mainstream Canada (para.8). This aspect of Eurocentric values include speaking English and French languages, but more importantly, that Syrians will be asked to forfeit their own cultural values to adapt into Canadian society. This is the underlying conflict in the immigrant crisis, which is fueling anti immigrant findings in the polls done by Reid in Canadian society. While the main focus is the bombing of Dresden during World War II, the book isn t really about Dresden; Vonnegut merely uses this specific battle as a method to express his strong sentiment against war in general. In the early part of the novel, Vonnegut narrates his visit to Bernard O Hare s home. O Hare s wife, Mary suddenly launches into an angry outburst after mumbling to herself for a time, and Vonnegut says She [Mary O Hare] had been talking to herself, so what she said was a fragment of a much larger conversation (Vonnegut 18). The introduction of such themes is significant because it plays an important role in situating the reader and providing historical context. In including the excerpt from the book, which is a study of crowd psychology, Vonnegut is borrowing wholesale from a history text. This text seeps into the voice of the narrator and subliminally impacts how the reader interprets the narrative. This is a method of foreshadowing the ideas that come later in the book in various forms and priming the reader to think in a certain way. Using this historical text also lends credibility to Vonnegut s writing, since the book he cites is often cited as the best book ever written about market psychology. Historically, the Children s Crusade resulted from the glamorization of war in children s eyes, as evidenced in the next part of the intertext: History in her solemn page...pathway of blood and tears. • 21. F. Salinger s The Catcher Of The Rye One of the best known novels in English speaking countries, J.D Salinger s Catcher In The Rye deals with Holden Caulfield s past trauma which is the triggering factor in his depression, anxiety and alienation. Holden tells an unnamed person what has happened in the three days prior to his mental breakdown. Through Holden s relatable characteristics and Salinger s narrative treatment, the book continues to engage audiences across generations. The way that Salinger writes gives the audience a very personal and insightful look into what Holden is feeling. It s told in the first person, in a confessional style, and utilises digression. This creates a sense of closeness with the protagonist. It s like Holden is talking directly to the reader. Salinger s use of stream of consciousness also makes it feel like it really is coming from the mind of a seventeen year old boy: I mean girls should smell a certain way like baby powder, new clothes and perfume ... I hate Old Spice ... Christ, I must be nuts. All of a sudden I start to imagine myself as the old sailor ... Holden s character still engages audiences in the 21st century because he deals with the problems that adolescents still face like rebellion, sexuality and the loss of innocence. The novel doesn t feel outdated at all, even though it was written in a very different time. One of the main focuses of the book is Holden s alienation from other people, which I think stems from his traumatic past. The loss of his brother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Genetics For Mongol Migration Maryann Steadman ANTH 3125 2014, October 11th Reflection Paper One Genetics for Mongol Migration Mongolia is located in between Russia and China, and is a neighbor to Kazakhstan. The people that live there are called Mongols. Mongolia, which is part of Asia, is part of what composes Eurasia. When it comes to DNA and chromosomal lineage, there are many factors that lead to how a person will look, who they will mate with, and what decisions they make in that process. These categories all run under the term genetics. The second week s lecture said that there are three major types of genetic data. There is autosomal, Y chromosome, and mitochondrial DNA. Autosomal is a combination of your mother and father s DNA that makes you. Y chromosomes come from your father and are given to a son, and mitochondrial DNA comes from your mother. Everyone has the autosomal and mitochondrial aspects of genetics. The mitochondrial makeup is just what genes you got from your mother. However, only males have the Y chromosome aspect of genetics since males sex genes are comprised of XY while females are XX. Mongols (and their language of Mongolic) originally came from the Altai Mountains, which are near Mongolia (week lecture two). In the second week s lecture it is also noted that Mongolia may have been the original location for starting Y chromosomal lineage. In Zerial s article, The Genetic Legacy of the Mongols, it talks about Mongols being a star cluster for other people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact, these studies are so rare that they almost constitute the White Space of research in the field (Frankel and NГ¤slund 2005). One reason for this reluctance to adopt AR can be attributed to the lack of rigor in some of the previously published works. Alvesson (1996, p.456) wrote ...much qualitative research is as superficial as questionnaire studies. Case research has, unfortunately, been used as an excuse for industrial tourism visiting lots of organisations without any pre conceived ideas as to what is being researched (Voss, Tsikriktsis, and Frohlich 2002, p.196). • 36. Definition Of Sanctity Of Human Life Definition: Sanctity of human life refers to the fact that human life, due to the fact that humans are created in the image of God and share His likeness, is valued over the lives of plants and animals. Unlike plants and animals, God blessed us with the ability to experience and convey emotion. Humans also can be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ or condemned to hell if they choose not to accept Christ. Man is the only being created in the image of God, therefore having the aforementioned blessings of emotion and salvation, making man so much more important. When people ignore this fundamental and necessary sanctity of life, terrible things like abortion and mass shootings occur. History: A biblical example of a violation of the sanctity of human life is in Genesis 4, the story of Cain and Abel. Cain violated the sanctity of human life and killed his own brother simply because Abel s sacrifice was accepted by God, but Cain s was not. Cain did not give his best to God in the offering, but instead of dealing with his own shortcomings with God, he murdered his brother out of anger and jealousy. By not fixing his own heart issue, he committed a vile sin that would forever shape his own life and the life of his descendents. There are many modern examples of this disregard for the value of life, such as: abortion, mass shootings, suicides, and suicide bombers. One major example is the recent Los Vegas shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival where 59 people were killed and at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We were at the pool almost every day, and if we were not at the pool we were lying in bed watching movies. This was the happiest I had ever been. We were all just genuinely happy. Towards the end of the summer, Kat, Sam and I were hanging out a lot more and starting to keep our distance from Jo. Once school started the three of us really started hanging out a lot more and we had our own group message. We never saw Jo any more because none of us had classes with her. Thus, bone modeling and remodeling preserve skeletal function throughout human life. The bone remodeling unit normally couples the bone resorption and bone formation. Research by Teitelbaum and Ross (2003) indicated that, the bone remodeling process regulates the gain and loss of bone mineral density in the human skeleton and directly influenced bone strength and vice versa. In bone remodelling process, resorption of extra cellular matrices by osteoclasts is followed by osteoblastic invasion of the cavity, and subsequent secretion of extra cellular matrix that is then mineralized (Ducy et al., 2000). These two processes, which together are called bone remodeling, occur continuously (Riggs et al., 2002). However, due to some of listed factors mentioned above, these processes turn out to be distracted and cauce osteoporosis (Rouhi, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis To Kill A Mockingbird takes place during the 1930 s, a time of intense racial inequity and prejudice. Harper Lee intends for the novel to display the harsh reality to the real world, and exhibit how life and society were really like during this period in history. Humanity s views and morals have shown little sign of ever being able to accept change or difference as seen in particular issues such as racism, discrimination, sexism, prejudice etc. Whilst reading the novel, readers can identify these well known problems and maybe even relate to some of the ideas that Lee is portraying. Lee uses symbols to effectively communicate and express her thoughts and opinions on the various themes of the book. Moreover, these symbols are able to tap into the subconscious mind to implement ideas that can be analyzed in order to understand their relevance to not only the plot line and major theme topics of the novel: appearance versus reality, conscience and integrity, and loss of innocence, but also to modern society. At first glance, Maycomb appears to be a quaint, peaceful town. Lee later proves this to be a common misconception made by outsiders. Throughout the novel, we come to learn the true nature and life of Maycomb. Underneath the picture perfect image, there is a disease spreading, infiltrating and infecting the minds of Maycomb. (pg 117). Jem, I ain t ever heard of a nigger snowman, I said. To this Jem replies with He won t be black for long. (Lee pg 89) The snowman is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Maggot Movement The Effect Of Temperature On The Rate Of Maggot Movement. Environmental Systems and Societies Planning Lab Gaurav Iyer Research Question To what extent does temperature affect the movement of Maggots? Introduction This Experiment aims to analyze the behaviour of the maggots in a particular temperature. Behaviour of the maggots is defined as the way they respond to their surrounding and environment. Maggots are organisms which react by quickly and a series of varied reflex reactions are shown and adapted. These kinds of actions are very important for keeping itself in a particular environment to live. Therefore, it would be expected that all maggots react in the same way to show a particular behavioural trend. Temperature is an environmental factor that will affect the maggot s behaviour. The temperature in the environment helps the maggots determine their rate of metabolism and its internal temperature. These organisms move according to the environmental temperature. A trend can be found to show the effect of temperature on the rate of movement of maggots. Hypothesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At higher temperatures, chemical reactions such as metabolism happen more faster because of the increase in kinetic energy of the particles. As metabolism supplies the organism with energy, there will be more energy produced at high temperatures. Thus, at higher temperatures the maggots will move more quickly as their pacy rate of metabolism gives them energy to do so. Also, if the temperature is too high for the maggots, there will be a decrease in the metabolic speed because of killing of enzymes which will cause the maggots to move ... • 43. Parson and Sociology Parsons most significant contribution to Sociology derives from the supposition that action does not exist in some vacuous state. Instead he argues that action(s) should be considered within the context of a broader system comprised of boundaries and the maintenance of such boundaries. He seems to suggest that appropriating the action system paradigm, to be discussed below, provides the most useful framework for analyzing social phenomena. In The Structure of Social Action (1937), Parsons lays the foundations for the establishment of the prevailing theoretical tradition (i.e., structural functionalism) in American Sociologyspanning decades. Although this meta theoretical approach received harsh criticism from conflict theorists in particular, its attempt to bring sophisticated and careful thinking to understanding how social scientists might examine social systems should not be dismissed. It is neither my intent nor responsibility to rehearse the extensions or criticisms offered by later theorists, but, rather, to focus on a few critical aspects of Parsons initial efforts to engage in an ongoing scholarly conversation. In doing so, I argue that although Parson s synthesizes the work of classical theorists, he is doing so in an effort to extrapolate the critical raw materials that might allow him to move beyond classical theoretical approaches to an analysis of the social world rather than charting a completely new course. The degree to which I am persuaded by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Chartists and Chartism Essays Chartists and Chartism Chartism was the name of a variety of protest movements in England during the 1830s and 40s, which aimed to bring about change in social and economic conditions through political reform. Its name comes from the People s Charter, a six point petition presented to the House of Commons with the hope of having it made law. The six point included annual parliaments, universal manhood suffrage, abolition of the property qualification for members of the House of Commons, the secret ballot, equal electoral districts, and salaries for members of Parliament. This was the first independent working class movement in the world, that is, not simply sporadic uprisings or agitation, and arose after the Reform Bill of ... The Convention then proclaimed a general strike, but many had no employer to strike against, and the Convention broke up after riots in various parts of England and Wales, with many leaders arrested and troops sent in by the government. A similar petition was presented in 1842, another bad time, with even more signatures, and was again firmly rejected. Again there were strikes; again leaders were jailed. 1848, the year Mary Barton was published, saw a final demonstration by the Chartists. This time they had collected over 5,000,000 signatures and the presentation to the Parliament was attended with great ceremony; an impressive parade carried the wagon loads of signatures to the House of Commons. This was the year of revolution in Europe there had been revolts in Paris, Vienna (3), Venice, Berlin, Milan, Rome, and Czechoslovakia and the British government was desperately afraid of large scale demonstrations. Many troops were deployed in London and the petition failed again, which brought about the virtual end of Chartism. ` The supporters of Chartism were from different working class groups, but all were victims of the Industrial Revolution. One group consisted of the older handicrafts and domestic skills those who worked on commission in their homes, at looms or knitting frames, under the so called putting out system, where their materials were supplied by a factor or middleman who later came to collect the finished work. It is clear from examining the philosophical thought and social trends during both the Qing and Ming dynasties that Confucian thought and ideology had a profound effect on Chinese society and moral values during that period. Confucian philosophy is an ethical and philosophical thinking system thought to have been developed from the teachings of Kong Fuzi, known as Confucius who lived between 551 478 BC in China. [1]The essence of Confucianism is that the human mind can be cultivated through virtue and moral perfection. This branch of Neo Confucianism was known as The School of principle . Although his works were written during the Song Dynasty, by the time of the Ming and Qing dynasty, they had been adopted as key text for the imperial examinations which meant that most of the educated men of that period would have a high of understanding of his thought. [11]One of Zhu Xi s most famous books was the book family rituals where he offered advice on many rituals including how to conduct weddings, funerals, family ceremonies, and the veneration of ancestors.[12] Zhu Xi was also known for implementing Buddhist thought into his philosophy. He argued for a Buddhist sense of high moral and also argued that one should engage in both academic and philosophical pursuits.[13] The other branch of neo Confucianism advocated by Wang Yang Ming was known as the school of mind which was founded by Ch eng Hao (1032 1085). [14] Although this school of thought also believed that the material world was built from a single immaterial principle, the difference was that this principle existed solely in the human mind. Wang Yang Ming believed that the principle of the universe is equivalent to the human mind and that the practice of humanity, referred to as jen unifies man with the universe. Wang Yang Ming expanded on this saying that innate knowledge can manifest the original mind that is equivalent to the universe.[15] The innate knowledge, in his opinion, represented the ... • 46. Perception Of Reality In The Allegory Of The Cave The issue in the philosophy of perception is explaining how perception could give someone either knowledge or a justified belief about the world. We recognize this reality to be something which we cannot change in any way. However, it can not be said about the perception of reality being completely true. The strange thing of all this is that reality may not actually exist. The reason we all think in one reality is that we only see our central point of the story. Just because someone sees something in a specific way does not make it so. This problem has been viewed in terms of a skeptical argument that appears to show that such knowledge and premise are impossible. He states that there are two kinds of perception: sensory perception and spiritual perception. Sensory perception is the world of aspect, in which we perceive, with the support of our sensory organs. For this reason, the world is the world of illusion. It is the world of shadows so in Plato s view, it is the world of falsification. The reality or truth is impossible to perceive through our senses. This extensive metaphor symbolizes how we humans have the ability to seek for philosophical knowledge or the light, but one will never experience the Truth, the sun, for the reason that it is what causes blindness for possessing too much knowledge. Although, experiencing the Truth can be achieved through spiritual perception, which is divine understanding. Spiritual enlightenment is unique for each individual, but there are some recognizable signs. First, one stops both suffering and struggling, which are also products of the mind. You will actually have trouble relating to how you used to manage to suffer, and emotions become valued messengers rather than problems. Spiritual perception can be possible when we reject the world of sensory perception, so until and unless we break all the material chains, we will not have spiritual perception. It is the exemplary philosophy of Plato and his spiritual perception as an ideal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
