The Social Capital Effects: Resources, Tie Strength, & Digital Divides Wenhong Chen
More than 20 percent of Americans still have no access to the Internet. How to get them connected is critical to narrowing the digital divides. Drawing on a two-wave national panel dataset, this paper examines the implications of social capital for Internet access and use. Results demonstrate social capital facilitates Internet access and use. In particularly, resource-rich bonding social capital helps overcome the digital divides both in access, general use, and online communication. Before the Internet can revitalize social capital, there must be the right social capital in place to close the digital divides. Highlighting the effect of social connectivity on digital connectivity, the findings have important implications for policymakers and practitioners.
Digital literacy - a new language for disruptionJoyce Hostyn
To achieve the digital enterprise, you need a workforce that embraces new ways of working. One in which they’re able to harness the power of information, collaboration, and communities to get their jobs done. This requires treating digital as a new language. One with a different grammar and syntax from what people are used to. And learning a new language isn't easy. How can we empower people through digital literacy to work smarter, treating digital as a language to use to express ideas and create magical experiences that people choose to participate in and, as a consequence, change their behavior? How can we get people dreaming in digital?
Responsive design, application development using APIs, and content strategy are hot topics in web development right now. These ideas belong to a bigger umbrella: ubiquitous computing and the role it plays in our lives. Traditional ideas of usability are undergoing dynamic changes as we move away from a desktop-first model of personal computing.
The internet refrigerator already exists and it's only the tip of the iceberg. In the near future, human-computer interactions will be thoroughly integrated into everyday objects and activities.
Postdesktop was a presentation to add clarity to responsive design as part of a larger context and to think about a shift that is changing the devices we use to access the web, the delivery method for education, the teaching and learning experience, and the whole of our lives.
Topics included a look at the role of pervasive computing:
• as it relates to responsive design
• in the classroom and textbooks
• in .edu marketing and utility on campuses

Promoting responsible Digital Citizenship within the school environment.
Schools have a duty of care to teach students how to behave in responsible and ethical ways when using the internet. A negative online presence can have a profound impact on a student’s learning, and personal and professional life. This looks at ways of helping students create a positive digital footprint and the process for developing a whole school Digital Citizenship program. Even if the term “digital native” have been debated for years by several esteemed scholars, this article aims to seek the digital natives’ attitude towards data protection and safety. It is fundamental, in a society which is evolving so fast, not to focus solely on the present, but to endeavour to improve the future by paying the utmost attention to the new generations. What balance of interests must we achieve between privacy vs transparency, secrecy vs security, reputation vs freedom of expression in a world of internet which is increasingly regulated by Moore’s Law, rather than by state legislation? The purpose is to analyze the current tension between privacy and other fundamental rights from a predominantly legal standpoint, pointing out that the solutions adopted by legislation and case law are not sufficient and that maybe it is also necessary to reconsider this value from an ethical viewpoint.
Does networking really make a difference? The answer is a resounding yes! In a study performed by Partnering Resources, 93% of completely successful change initiatives were led by leaders with very strong or strong personal networks. Not one change initiatives described as less successful was led by a leader with strong or very strong personal networks. Furthermore, a recent study featured in Sloan Management Review showed that high performing project teams had almost twice as many non-core contributors affiliated with the team.
In this highly interactive session, we learned about the science behind networking. We drew on insights from researchers and practitioners in the social sciences and in business to learned about the networking practices of high performers. We dispelled the myth that people who want strong networks should never eat alone and, instead, we learned about the simple actions that significantly contribute to the health of your network. We merged the art and science by mapping individual participants’ networks, identifying gaps, and developing plans for filling those gaps.

Cells use energy and raw materials for two functions, production of new cells and the maintenance of existing cells. In general, consumption of materials for maintenance is small w.r.t. the amount of materials used in the synthesis of new biomass.
Generally it is assumed that the use of materials for maintenance is proportional to the amount of cells present.

Knowledge management and social media by Enamul HaqueEnamul Haque
Today, most of the conversations happen on the web, using different social media tools. Conversations that are stored electronically are forming knowledge nuggets, serving the world, like it has never been before. That’s the Social media era that we are passing through. Which is changing the way we live our life & share knowledge.
In this session, we talk about the mobile and social web, and how it shapes economy, individual behavior and well-being, political events, and society as a whole.
Session for MSc Media Psychology students @salforduni. What does it mean to live and breath the web and how is technology impacting upon the self? Most importantly is the emphasis on our need for networks and how other people contribute to who we are and what we can achieve.

The exponential growth of social media and the ubiquitous use of mobile technology has changed the way we communicate both socially and for many also professionally. Digital spaces have to some extent removed barriers enabling social learning that is no longer constrained geographically (spacial boundaries) or by time-zone differences (temporal boundaries).
It is therefore timely to consider our digital capabilities and how these can be used to communicate and collaborate; and through interconnectedness provide opportunities for lifelong and lifewide learning that extend beyond the formal learning we are all familiar with.
This talk will consider why a professional online presence is so important; the value of using social media to develop global personal learning networks; and how through open sharing with our interconnected networks it is possible to develop our scholarly practice.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage

We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
