Technology in
communication
Communication is a process of sending and receiving messages through verbal
or nonverbal i.e, speech (oral communication), writing (written
communication), signs, signals, or behavior.
Communication is a process in which people share information, ideas and
feelings.
DETAILED INFORMATION:
• Technology has positive as well as negative impact on
communication.
• But logically thinking, technology has bettered the
communication process and has done negligible harm.
• The development of technology has considerably
improved our lifestyle.
• It has made its impact felt on each and every aspect of
life, including the communication techniques.
• There’s been a movement away from face-to-face
meetings / communication. Instead, people and
businesses use video conferencing.
• Technology is more portable and people have and expect
constant access to the internet.
• The invention of electronic equipment such as mobile
phones makes it easier for people to contact each other.
• Therefore, because of technology we take less time to
keep in touch with friends living far away
CHANGE NOWAND THEN
 BENEFITS
•Speed / time – money and time can be saved because it’s
much quicker to move information around.
•Cost – it feels free to send an email (although it isn’t); it’s
certainly cheaper than phone calls. Video conferencing saves
money on flights and accommodation.
•Online communication - brings families / friends together
across distances.
•Education – it’s accessible and there’s lots of free information
for students to refer.
•Community – it can reduce isolation and provide support
systems for people who need it.

 Strengthened relations:
Technology has made it easy to
keep in touch with old contacts,
and has also helped strengthen
relationships although they are far

COMMUNICATION
 No barriers:
Communication is now easy; in case of situations when you
want to convey some message urgently to someone, mobiles and
emails come in handy.
 E-schools:
Services like video-conferencing has made it possible
to give best education to students via expert faculty on
the web.
Development:
Technological advancements
in the modes of communication
have promoted faster decision-
making, and led to the
development and progress of the
world.
Video conferencing has
played a considerate role in
promoting faster decision-making.
Most of the businesses depend on
technology for communication.
 Better solutions:
Technology has brought the world closer and
promoted exchange of thoughts to find better
solutions to any problem.
NEGATIVE IMPACT
•Loss of face-to-face communication- may mean loss of some
communication skills and loss of the personal touch. Reliability
of information – everyone’s posting so just because
something’s on the web doesn’t mean it’s reliable.
•Addiction – some people get addicted to web / games etc.
which increases their social isolation and can cause health
problems.
•Interruptions – because people don’t tend to turn off
technology, they don’t focus or concentrate for uninterrupted
periods as much.
•Impact on interpersonal
communication:
The current generation
lacks essential interpersonal
skills (the ability to express
the ideas and thoughts to
others, face-to-face). A
major reason for this
tendency is increased
frequency of
communication through
texting and chatting on
websites.
 SPAM
Spam refers to unwanted and unsolicited email
messages.
Spam is widespread and has negative impacts on
business.
 Wading through spam email is a waste of time, and
spam filters can only do so much.
 Users of spam filters must then check for necessary
email messages diverted incorrectly as spam.
Language skills
•Morden communication technologies has integrated
themselves into every days life because of the way the
people communicate has drastically changed.
•Till now we used to communicate through calling each
other but now it also has being replaced by texting.
•In this few year the scale of people chatting has
drastically changed
