The Shape Memory Effect And Super Elasticity
INTRODUCTION
The Shape Memory Alloys are quite fascinating materials characterised by a Shape
Memory effect and Super elasticity, which ordinary metals and alloys do not have.
This unique behaviour was first found in Au 47.5%Cd alloy in 1951, and was
publicised by its discovery in a Ti Ni alloy in 1963. After much research and
development thereafter, shape memory alloys are now being practically used as new
functional alloys for pipe couplings, antennae for cellular phones and various
actuators in electrical appliances, etc. Furthermore, they have attracted keen attention
as promising candidate for smart materials since they function as sensors as well as
actuators.
The shape memory effect and super elasticity are based on the diffusion less
transformation called martensitic transformation. The Shape memory effect is a
unique property of certain alloys exhibiting martensitic transformations. Even though
the alloy is deformed in low temperature phase, it recovers its original shape by
reverse transformation upon heating to a critical temperature called reverse
transformation temperature. Many other alloys such as In T1, 3, 4 Cu Zn and Cu Al
Ni were also found. The same alloys have another unique property called Super
elasticity at a higher temperature, which is associated with a large (18%) nonlinear
recoverable strain upon loading and unloading. Since these alloys have a unique
property in remembering the original shape, having an actuator function and having

19 May 2017 On July 28th, 103 years ago, the war of the nations, the great war, or
in other words, World War I began. To this day, it is still largely debated as to which
event initiated the beginning of the war. John Rohl, emeritus professor of history at
the University of Sussex, argues that World War Ibroke out as the result of a
conspiracy between the governments of imperial Germany and Austria Hungary to
bring about war. The purpose of bringing on the war was that the two countries
believed it would be better to go down fighting rather than to continue tolerating the
status quo. The countries also did so in opposition to Britain because of its ... Show

The Turks called for parliamentary elections, and in result, doubt was placed in the
status of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The two provinces had been under Ottoman
sovereignty, but were administered by Austria Hungary since 1878. Serbiawanted to
unite with Bosnia and Herzegovina to form a large Serbian kingdom. In opposition,
Austria Hungary annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Balkans. Austria
Hungary teased Russia with a trade off, which promised that if Russia accepted the
annexation, Austria Hungary would open the Dardanelles to Russian warships.
Instead, Austria Hungary proceeded with counteraction.
The annexation left both Serbia and Russia outraged. Germany, too, demanded that
the Russians accept the annexation, or Germany would declare war. In response,
Russia increased comfort and aid to Serbia, and the two countries were determined
to never again back down in the Balkans. Between 1912 and 1913, the Balkans
fought two wars among themselves. These wars resulted in huge casualties; the
Bulgarians lost around 65,000 men, the Greeks 9,500, the Montenegrins 3,000, and
the Serbs at least 36,000. The wars caused the people in the Balkans to become
angrier as tensions among the Great Powers continued to grow. The instability in the
Balkans was initially attractive to the Great Powers because they wanted to gain
influence. However, the

god, Tebow shows that faith can be a motivational presence that can help achieve a
dream that used to be a distant reality in the book Through My Eyes. The authors

commitment to faith helped him achieve his lifelong dream of playing
professional football. Tebow effectively illustrates ethos and logos by using his
first hand experiences and his inspirational tone helps pull the reader in. Tebow

Germany s To Blame For WWII
The conclusion of the First World War left many countries in desire of long lasting
peace. This shared fear of another war led to the Paris Peace Conference in January
1919, where the major powers of the world such as France, Britain, Italy, the U.S. and
Japan, excluding the defeated Central Powers, signed major treaties including the
Treaty of Versailles, Treaty of St. Germain, Treaty of Neuilly, and the Treaties of
Sevres and Lausanne. These treaties, specifically the Treaty of Versailles, placed the
blame for World War I
(WWI) entirely on Germany and Austria Hungary, which lead
to Germany s desire for revenge and consequently its role in World War II (WWII).
Evidently, the treaties were not entirely just to all of the countries involved,... Show

This is partially owing to the fact that Italy did not join WWII until 1940, twenty
years after the Treaty of Versailles, therefore it is likely that a majority of the Italian
public were no longer unhappy with the outcome of the First World War, and more
focused on internal affairs, such as the post war economic depression Italy was
experiencing at the time. The fact that Italy did not acquire the land which it had
believed to be rightfully Italian however did play a small role in Italy s
contribution to the Second World War, as it is reflected in Italy s foreign policy
during the war. Italy s foreign policy was concentrated on improving their military
power in order to reclaim land. Italy s military forces did not contribute much to the
war, however Italy did manage to seize Albania in 1939 during WWII, proving their
focus on territorial

important are the safety to the service s staff, public and the users of the generator.
In order to evade the risk of electric shock, the users mentioned above should be
informed of an operational generator (Small Scale Embedded Generator SSEG)

must be isolated prior to any electrical work installation/connection. The SSEG

This type of protection is known to be either a TT or TN systems. The TT System
of Earthing is not suitable where a TN C S system is available it s only used in old
installation or rural parts of the country where overhead cable supplies are used.
The associated earth fault loops with the TT System of Earthing is that the
exposed conductive metalwork causes a fault current to flow through it to earth
and return to the source via a general mass of earth (Figure 1). It is anticipated that
the level of fault current will cause the RCD to trip or to blow the fuse in the time
indicated in the ETCI rules. At 230 Volts its 5 seconds for fixed equipment, 0.4
seconds for portable equipment, socket outlets and 0.4 seconds for fixed equipment
in bathrooms. The main disadvantage of the TT system connection of protecting
against indirect contact is that the earth fault path resistance could easily allow a
continual earth fault to exist which may well be lethal or causes fire. The TN C S
system of earthing has the main earth terminal connected to the supply neutral and
the earth electrode. When the load fault to earth occurs it turn into a fault to the
incoming neutral and the fault route resistance is a lot lower than the TT system. A
large current will flow which causes the RCD to trip within the specified time

Abortion Is The Destruction Of A Fetus
In this essay, I will discuss my position on abortion, how it has changed, and how it
compares to others more established positions. Before I can begin this, however, I
must first discuss the terms that will be used and their definitions. For the purposes
of this essay an abortion is the destruction of a fetusat any point in development. A
fetus constitutes a fertilized egg. At the moment the egg and sperm converge, the
product is entitled a fetus. Prior to this course, my opinion on abortion was firm,
but underdeveloped. I had a position that stated abortion to be immoral but
acceptable in some cases. By this, I meant that it was always wrong, but could be
understood in some cases, and thus, somehow, less of a wrongness. I see now the
major issues with this argument and will use this essay to better clarify my
position, and I will find myself aligning very closely with the views of Don
Marquis, as portrayed by his article entitled An Argument that Abortion is Wrong. I
will expound upon these views as they are shared by mine, but will also cite
portions from writings by Judith Thomson and Mary Anne Warren. I find that my
position was developed by using terms and ideas from these three authors, but I
will also discuss how their writings and views conflict with mine. My position has
been altered by new knowledge, and new incorporation of different circumstances.
Prior to this class, I had an opinion that abortion was wrong, but it was okay if the
mother was raped or if

The Development of Rockets
1.3 Developing of rockets.
Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky was one of the very first people who put
forward the idea of using rockets for space missions, he was also the first person to
design a rocket for interplanetary exploration and he accomplished this in 1903.
German scientist Hermann Oberth continued to outline the principles of
interplanetary flight in 1920, soon followed by an American scientist Robert
Goddard who began to develop a liquid rocket engine in 1923 and by 1925 had
created a working prototype. He set up the first liquid rocket, using gasoline and
liquid oxygen as fuel in March of 1926. The works of Tsiolkovsky, Oberth and
Goddard were then continued by rocketry enthusiast groups in the United States, the
Soviet Union and Germany (Aerospace, 1994)
In Germany, similar works were led by German Interplanetary Society (VFR), as part
of the group, Johannes Winkler implemented Europe s first successful liquid rocket
launch in March of 1931 and Wernher von Braunwho began the development of
rocket engines for the German army artillery range in Kummersdorf in the winter of
1932. After the Nazis came to power in Germany they allocated some funding for
the development of missiles, and in the spring of 1936 the construction rocket centre
has been approved at Peenemunde, with von Braun appointed as technical director.
He developed the A 4 ballistic missile and in 1944 began its combat application
called V 2. Military applications of V 2 demonstrated the
Animal Agriculture
The Effects of Animal Agriculture on our Environment and Biodiversity Biodiversity
is defined as the variety of life in an environment, specifically the existence of many
different kinds of plants and animals [1] , but biodiversity is so much more than that.
Biodiversity is incredibly important to a well functioning ecosystem, and without it,
food webs would break down and many organisms wouldn t be able to survive.
Biodiversityis especially important in California, a biodiversity hotspot. California

The majority of human activities are incredibly detrimental to the environment, and
we need to reduce these activities if we want to save our planet. Activities that cause
things like pollution, deforestation, global warming, and excessive water usage are
some of the major causes of our environment s decline. All of these are caused by one
activity: animal agriculture. According to the UN s report, the livestock industry is
one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious
environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. [5] To lessen the
blow of animal agriculture on our environment, I propose that we enact Meatless
Mondays. Meatless Mondays is a trend in which one day a week, you substitute all
meat products with another food. In my action plan, we will start Meatless
Mondays right here at SDA and if successful, we will branch out to the entire
school district. To begin, we will show the Humane Society s three minute video on
the benefits of Meatless Mondays during homeroom. We can put up posters around
campus and put a reminder on MTV at the beginning of the week. Additionally, if
the Mosaic Cafe doesn t serve meat products on Mondays, that alone could make a
difference. To try and keep students adhering to it and maybe even sharing it with
their families, there are several ways that we could help this weekly
Earthquakes On May 22, 1960 In Chile
According to Brillinger (2011), earthquakes were recorded after happening to get an
earthquake statistics. Earthquakes may be large or small, serious or trivial; however,
the higher the magnitude, the greater the damage to a particular location and the
surrounding area. Earthquakes can also create other natural disasters, like tsunamis

Statistics of earthquakes can be extremely important for it can give governments

is beneficial in proving or disproving results. Just as is the case with primary and
qualitative research, it is costly and time consuming. This tool requires extensive
analysis of statistics and data. Generally, it requires retesting, and refinement.
Moreover, it does not lend itself to areas of ambiguity.
Finally, focus groups provide in depth data. They are a good way to involve the
target group in the research process in a more intimate way. Researchers can observe
the group while they are having dialogue to gauge authenticity. This tool also allows
the researcher to use visual stimuli to interact with its target. However, this tool is not
the most efficient way to gather information. As with most of the tools mentioned, it
is time consuming. Therefore, not scientific. Focus groups can produce obscure
results if they are not strictly moderated. Additionally, they often must be incentivized
for participation.

The Effectiveness Of Traditional Lecture And Scenario...
Background: The effect of innovations within the healthcare industry causes many
scientific and technical changes in healthcare delivery. To cope with these changes,
there is necessitate to prepare and train healthcare workers to improve employees
knowledge and the quality of care. Limited clinical experience with a new mode of
mechanical ventilation, such as Airway Pressure Released Ventilation mode, make its
implementation difficult in the real critical world. Adequate staff training time is
essential to improve employees knowledge and skills. Objective: To evaluate the
effectiveness of traditional lecture and scenario based learningfor training respiratory
therapists and critical care residents at Rush University Medical Center for the use of
Airway Pressure Release Ventilation (APRV). Methods: This is one group pretest and
posttest intervention study, a quasi experimental research design. The study is
introducing an educational intervention to train the use of APRV. The educational
strategy involves traditional lecture and scenario based learning. Different scenarios
will be created based on APRV application. The population will include respiratory
therapists, critical care residents, fellows and attending physicians at Rush University
Medical Center.

Classical Western History
The Foundation of the United States
Throughout Classical Western history, certain civilizations have prospered more than
others. The strongest civilizations adopt the best practices of past cultures while also
developing innovative practices. America s civilization is an excellent example. It
has taken the best practices of many past civilizations, such as those of Greece and
Rome, to become what many would say is the greatest civilization in history. In fact,
while Greece has contributed to the modern makeup of the United States, Rome s
civilization was more influential due to its democratic principles, emphasis on trade
in order to expand the empire, and development of common experiences to unite
society.
Democracy began with the Greeks, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greece established a platform for the beginning of democracy. The Romans used
these ideas and expanded upon them to form a government with written laws,
division of power and the ability to vote which are all key elements in the US
modern government. Also, Greece founded trade routes that allowed their empire to
thrive, but Rome again improved the method of trade by creating currency as well as
a system of roads which allowed their empire to expand. The complex trade and
transportation system of the US is a further developed version of this Roman system.
Finally, Greeks united their culture through sporting competitions and the Romans
further developed their common culture by popularizing sporting arenas and
spreading religion which are also significant aspects of US culture. Global success
today continues to occur when countries emulate the best of what the world shows
Islam Is A Religion Based On The Interpretation And...
Islam is a religion based on the interpretation and application of fundamental
scriptures geared towards the need of a growing, modernizing religious community.
The Qur an and the Prophet Mohammed s Sunnah and hadith serve as the main
sources for attaining religious knowledge. Scholars of Islam, Ulema, delegated a
mechanism in which they can gain knowledge after they have consulted the Quran
and Sunnah through ijtihad and qiyas. The flexibility with which they can use
reason, ijtihad, and analogies, qiyas, to answer questions of the time created doctrines
that shed light onto the growing concerns within the Muslim community. This
methodology has served to provide a path in which religious scholars can apply Islam
to the changing dynamics of gender roles. The modernizing world provided the
framework for female scholars to enter the field of religious study and interpret
Islam on their own. Drawing on their reasoning and their ability to make analogies to
stories within Islam helped women develop sound arguments within Islam that
codified women s rights. Muslim feminist used the religion of Islam as the backbone
of their movement by highlighting their rights and freedoms within Islamic scripture.
They opened the gates of ijtihad to reevaluate scripture pertaining to their rights in a
marriage free from the nuisances of male scholars. Religious tools in extracting
knowledge within the folds of Islam allowed women to challenge existing marriage
norms and gender roles based in
The First Book Of Nephi Summary
Book Review: The First Book of Nephi: His Reign and Ministry Nephi was one of
the sons of Lehi. Lehi received visions from the Lord and began attempting to
repent the people of Jerusalem. After his attempted murder from those angered by
his preaching, Lehi listened to God s commands and left Jerusalem. Shortly
afterwards, God commands Lehi to send his four sons back to Jerusalem so that
they may retrieve The Brass Plates held by Jerusalem s powerful leader Laban. The
brothers failed during their first couple attempts to take the Plates from Laban, but
once Nephi traveled alone and prayed to the Lord, he was successful in defeating
Laban with his own sword, which had been commanded by God, and returning the

Not long after Nephi s brothers attempt to kill him, Lehi has a vision of the Tree of
Life and takes it as a sign to continue his teachings about God and to convince his

with its interpretations that shows the future for the sons and their children. Lehi s
sons later marry the daughters of Ishmael and discover in which they use travel the
Red Sea to find the Americas. On this journey Nephi proves once more that there is
a God and his commandments should be followed, when his bow breaks but his
strong faith and will strengthened him enough to rebuild another bow and continue
to guide his family on their journey. The brothers are trialed many other times during
their journey, but finally Nephi s abusive older brothers began to exhibit some sort of
faith when Nephi commands them not to kill his father nor touch himself or they
would both die. Commanded by God, Nephi then touches his brothers, making them
believers. Once they reached Americas, Nephi was left in charge because of Lehi s
death. Nephi called the people in his land Nephites,
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electronic Payment

Payments are always an important of any business, whether it is traditional or

The Morality Of Odin And Nelson s Othello
While the matter is up for debate, an argument could be made that Othello is one of
Shakespeare s greatest tragedies. What is truly remarkable about Othello is the
almost prophetic nature it possesses, given how the work is centuries old. Its
commentary on interracial love and sexuality, as professor Kiernan Ryan describes
it, is more powerful now in the 21st century than it could ever have been at the dawn
of the 17th. With Shakespeare s commentary on a topic of such importance to present
times, it is of little surprise that Othellohas been modified into an adaptation more
suited for a modern audience. Tim Blake Nelson s 2001 film O takes the tragic
romance of Othello and moves it to the setting of a modern American prep school.
The film, more or less, mirrors the core plot of Othello, however, the depiction of
characters varies greatly between Othello and Iagoof Shakespeare s play and their
counterparts, Odin and Hugo, of Nelson s film. The Odin of Nelson s film has his
dark skin tone and outsider status depicted differently than Othello and he appears
more aggressive and violent in the film as opposed to the play. Hugo on the other
hand, almost matches Shakespeare s Iago point for point, but carves out a unique
niche for himself in the clear motivations he has for his actions in the film, opposing
their inherent ambiguity in the play. The changes made in the film certainly make it
more relevant to a contemporary environment, but in doing so, it loses some of what

the Causes of Generation Y s Growing Pains written by Rosie Evans, she expresses
her feelings on the issue of the Generation Y s challenges of entering adulthood in
today s society. Clearly, anyone born between the 1980 s to 2000 s is considered to
be a part of the Generation Y or Millennial generation. Therefore, the reluctances of
the Millennial s and entering adulthood has brought concern to the Baby Boomer
generation and society as a whole. In the article, Evans refers to two articles, the first
article, Henig s 2010 New York Times article What Is It About 20 Somethings? and
the second article, blogger Scammed Hard! What s Wrong with 20 Somethings? both
discussion pieces express different points of view on the controversy. Namely Evans

Watching A Disappearing Number in Theater Essay

Choose one production that you have seen and which you particularly enjoyed and
discuss the aspects which made it so successful.
A Disappearing Number
I went to see a Disappearing Number, in the Theater. The production was performed
by Complicite and was directed by Simon McBurney. I really enjoyed this
performance. I thought that the mixture of maths and romance as well as the
structure of the performance by incorporating the past and the present together, was
extremely successful.
The most successful aspect of the performance for me were the scene changes. I
found that the rotation of the blackboard, center stage, where the actors were able to
stoop beneath it in order to enter and exit the stage, was an effective touch to this ...

Another really effective aspect to the performance was the use of technology,
including sound effects, projections, pod casts and voice overs. The scene which
stood out most for me, concerning technology would be the scene where Al is
trapped in the lecture theatre. Here, he begins to look through Ruth?s belongings
of books, papers and passports. While he is doing this, actions too small to be seen
from the audience, a live streaming is being projected up onto the whiteboard
behind to show us, as the audience, what he is looking at. Al starts to read a page
from a book which has been marked down and as he starts to read a voice over
starts reading the same words, quietly at first and as that gradually builds up in
volume, Al?s voice decreases in volume till its just the voice over reading out the
words from the book. This is one of the first links to the past, a key theme in the
performance, as the voice over is the voice of G H Hardy, the great mathematician
reading from his own book.
We were introduced to the performance by the character Ruth giving a maths lecture,
simple at first but then getting extremely difficult to follow, going off on a tangent,
using mathematical terminology I had never even heard of. This maths theme carried
on throughout the whole performance, making it, from my point of view, the
strongest link from the present to the past, as Ruth was wanting to follow in the
footsteps of Ramanujan and Hardy.

Self help books are criticize because professional psychologists and analysts do not
believe that these books can be valid due to the fact there is no scientific theories
supporting the validity of the self help books and its assessments.
Validity
The validity of personality assessment test such as the Sixteen Personality Fact
Questionnaire and the Rorschach has been subject to many criticisms in the past
years. 16PF has been criticized for not determining the factors which it claims to
determine (Fehriinger, 2004). Although the 16PF have been heavily criticized the
validity of this instrument has been determine through researchers discovering the
Big Five Factors which has been epic in comprehending personalities that we know
today. These personality assessment tests have become more and more common
because of their relativity easy use to assessing an individual state of mind.
Authors of self help books reject their criticisms by insisting that these books are
helpful and some even believe that they are even more effective than therapy. Out of
the three personality assessment instrument self help books are probably the least
valid. Self help books are more of a recommendation that is not backed up by
scientific studies or theories.

My Soul Is Rested Summary
The book My soul is rested , by Howell Raines takes place during the civil rights
movement in the South. Howell Raines was a white southern journalist who
interviewed many people like activist, lawyers, and many other people in the states
of Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi that were involved in the civil rights
movement. As known, Rosa Parkswas the person who sparked the civil rights
movement by refusing to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus for the
one white citizen that was left standing on the bus. Unfortunately she was arrested,
fingerprinted, incarcerated, and trialed over this situation. Because of Rosa Parks
courage on December 1, 1955 people are now able to ride, sit, and coexists with
other nonblack people. Just like two of the many activists, Horton (white) and
Malone Jones (black), were two important characters in the civil rights movements.
The Civil Rights Movement was a social movementin the U.S. to end racial
segregation and discrimination against blacks. Raines wrote this book in order for
people to tell their side of their story in the civil rights movement. This book is about
political and social history. It s also a tribute to everyone that made history happen.
Myles Hortonwas one of the many people interviewed by Raines in My Soul is

1932. Like described in Biography.com, Highlander Folk School was known for its
advocacy for the impoverished and labor

mother s cells with their own religious beliefs; they have had experiences of being
misled and patronized by scientists and other people trying to exploit them; and
some members of the family, who live in poverty and cannot afford health

made. Over several years, Skloot forms a relationship with the Lacks family, who
begin to realize that she is not trying to exploit them. She becomes particularly close
to Henrietta s daughter, Deborah, who desperately wants to learn everything she can

Explain Why The Hangman Gets A Close Up
The Hangman gets a Closeup Being a hangman was a fruitless job, living your life

who hangs people. Hangman s decrease population and cause people to not rest in

the people he hanged otherwise he wouldn t hang them. All a hangman does is

The Importance Of Environmental Justice
In todays world, there are a fair share of groups with opposing viewpoints as well
as mindsets, which often leads to conflict. Certainly the forestry world has had its
fare share of people in power making decisions based on whats best for them finically
or personally, and not what is best for the community and/or forest. Deep ecology
includes a large majority of the same concepts in which they want to work towards
the best interest of the forest and environment, and for the majority focus on the fact
that humans are interfering with the forest to much as it is, and it needs to be
changed (Naess, 264). Environmental justice focuses on how currently there is an
elitist membership and narrow scope in the current conventional environmental
practices and tries to work towards sustainability(Gottlieb 1993). When both of
these collide they create what is knows as Wicked Problems , they go beyond
scientific, economic, and techno rational analysis and methods of problem solving
( Nie 307). Hence is is difficult to know when said conflict has been solved, We use
the term wicked in a meaning akin to that of malignant (in contrast to benign ) or
vicious (like a circle) or tricky (like a leprechaun) or aggressive (like a lion, in
contrast to the docility of a lamb) (Rittel and Webber 1973: p. 160) Recently there has
been an increase in the amount of drivers in the modern environmental movement,
some of which are resource scarcity, rise of outdoor recreation, changing
The Judicial Observation On The Australian Competition
And...
Executive summary
This essay will mainly analyze and discuss some relevant legal principles and terms
related to the judicial observation on legal position that the judge made in the
Australian Competition and Consumer Commission v Yazaki Corporation case.
Therefore, it is necessary to cover the following key issues: 1. Definition and
explanations of separate legal entity doctrine and corporate groups. 2. When will a
subsidiary company be recognized as an agent of its parent. 3. Under what
circumstances can corporate veil be ignored or lifted. Introduction
As mentioned in the prescribed text, the judge observes that there are cases where
a parent company manages its subsidiary and also where a subsidiary company
plays an agent role of its parent due to the parent s substantial control exercised.
Queries may then occur as in what is the exact relationship between a parent
company and its subsidiary, as well as what are the criteria that could determine that
relationship. Before clearly explaining these questions, a brief introduction of the
separate legal entity principal will be given, after which the importance of corporate
group where parent and subsidiary companies lie in will be illustrated, followed by a
thorough discussion of corporate veil. In the end, this essay will cover when to lift
the corporate veil under both Common law and Corporation Acts 2001, mainly
regarding some determining factors such as sham and fraud, as well as the contents in
Focused Eating Essay
This is an experimental study because it is looking at whether participation in
leanness focused sports causes disordered eating. Because it is looking at a causal
relationship, it is an experimental design, rather than correlational. The independent
variable we were studying was the sport type of participation. For this variable, the
participants could be characterized as leanness focused sport athletes, nonleaness
focused sport athletes, or non athletes. The dependent variable was the level of
disordered eating, as determined by the EAT 26. The data would be analyzed using a
one way ANOVA. If the result of this determined that there was a significant result,
somewhere in the data, the next step would be to perform post hoc tests to see where
the differences occur. An appropriate post hoc test would be Fisher s Least
Significant Difference test. The desired result of this study would be that leanness
focused sport athletes would have a significantly higher level of disorder eating than
nonleanness focused sport athletes. Additionally, nonleaness focused sport athletes
would have a significantly higher level of disordered eating than non athletes.

While this study only looked at Division III teams, it is possible that the effects of
sport type vary among the different classifications. Another potential area for study
would be to continue to study leanness focused sport athletes, nonleaness focused
sport athletes, and non athletes, but to also include in the study the amount of time
spent training for and participating in the sport. This would allow us to look at the
correlation between time participating and level of disordered eating. I would
hypothesize that as individuals spend more time participating, they would have a
higher level of disordered eating

Genie Case
In this film, we view the case of a child named Genie who was isolated as a child.
Genie was discovered on November 4th, 1970 at 13 years of age where she was
discovered to have been strapped to a potty chair and isolated from the world for
most of her life. Throughout the film we see the many researchers found an interest
in Genie and began to investigate if she would be able to acquire languagealthough
she had passed the critical period of language development. Although, these
researchers believed that they were helping Genie and she displayed significant
progress it was clear that Genie was not able to speak proper English. She was able

Every new place that Genie discovered was a new world for her, this raised her
curiosity and allowed her to want to engage and interact with her new
environment. As we know, as infants we are born with almost all the neurons that
we will have. In Genie s case, being strapped to a potter chair for most of her life
caused her to lose many of those synaptic connections that she was not able to use.
This process is referred to as pruning, which simply stated means use it or lose it,
when theses connections are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The
ability of the infant s brain to change in form and function is referred to as
plasticity, this is important because although Genie was not taught as a child her
brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new environment. Through this we
encounter how Genie s brain was able to change throughout her new life and how
the brain has this amazing ability that allows reorganization and the ability to form
new connections. For Genie, these connections were able to form because she now
had the chance to explore her environment, which is something she was unable to
do her entire childhood. In the beginning of the film when Genie was discovered
they examined her brain waves and found that Genie was expressed abnormal wave
patterns. This is referred to as sleep spindles, which is an indication of retardation;
this raised the question of whether or not Genie was impaired at birth or due to
isolation. However, after working with her they found that she was in deed capable
of forming new synaptic connections that allowed her to learn new words and
supported the concept of brain

Cerebral Palsy Changed My Life
Sometimes, life deals you a bad hand. Most of the time when you think of that line,
you d think of simply someone having bad luck. Well, in my case, life literally
dealt me a bad hand. I was born with Cerebral Palsy, so I never had full control over
my right limbs. Being disabled in this way let me experience things in ways that a
normal person wouldn t, and it taught me many things. The most important
takeaway I got from it was even when life deals you that bad hand, you have to
work around it and grow from it. Part of just dealing with it comes with knowing
your limitations, and finding ways around it. For example, growing up I played
soccer. I didn t play very well, obviously, having the limited mobility that I did. I
didn t even score
Why Do Louis Vuitton Fake

Many unsuspecting budget fashionistas spend up to $1000 on authentic Louis
Vuitton bags that turn out to be fakes. Before purchasing your bag, read these basic
rules to determine whether or not your Louis Vuitton is fake.
How to Tell If Your Louis Vuitton is Fake
If it claims to be brand new and costs less than $300, most likely it is fake.
If the LV logo is upright on both sides, it might be a fake.
If it s brand new and being sold on eBay or Yahoo! Auctions for less than $100, there
is a good chance it s fake.
If the piping is not leather, it is fake.
If the seams are uneven, frayed, the monogram is off or the bag is poorly sewn, it is

Les Florets
Post Negotiation Analysis Les Florets Entering Les Florets negotiation, I had set
for myself rules. Besides my will to buy the restaurant, I had some intermediary
objectives to help reach my goal. First, I needed to learn more about the seller s
reasons to sell. This way I could offer her different solutions to solve the situation.
Second, I needed to be flexible, despite the limit of $160,000. That meant I needed
to maintain a margin in the negotiation around the price, and I decided to start with a
price of $140,000, saying since I am not usually in charge of buying new restaurants,
I am limited in the money I can spend. This way, I could difficultly raise my offer to
$150,000 but negotiate other things, notably that the seller would... Show more

My intent was simply to make sure she knew she needed an agreement with me,
more than I did. I needed her to believe that reaching an agreement with me was her
best alternative. Obviously, our price targets were different and unmatchable. She
needed to have $190,000 and I could not pay more than $160,000. Just making
propositions and trying to be flexible on additional things besides the price was not
enough, because she thought she needed the money immediately. At least, it was
not enough until the seller knew she had no better alternative outside the one I was
able to offer. Also, I learned that although it may seem a lot better to maintain
cordiality and an atmosphere of trust during the negotiation, at some point, when it
is not going anywhere, it might be better to adopt a stronger position. Mainly, it
had to be used to show the other party that even if an agreement is profitable for
both parties, there is a point of no return, that it is time to really start looking for
other solutions, more creative ones. After having established my position over the
seller, making new propositions was a lot easier. Also, she had realized that not
reaching an agreement with me meant that she could not pursue her life s dream,
whereas reaching an agreement with me made it possible for even if it meant having
to delay for a few months. Adopting a stronger position and
Wolf Depredation
The study Effects of Wolf Mortality on Livestock Depredation , focused on the
influence of wolf mortality, controlled through sport hunting, on reducing livestock
depredation in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming from 1987 to 2012. The study also
served to test the claims that wolf breeding pairs are responsible for most of the
livestock depredations that occur because these pairs are bound to den sites and not
subject to natural/normal prey distribution; and that increased wolf mortality could
result in a fracture in the normal pack structure, resulting in increased breeding pairs
and higher livestock depredations. The goal was to prove support for the hypothesis
that livestock depredations would decrease following an increase in lethal control of
wolf populations. To test this hypothesis, a quantitative experiment was run, based on
numbers of wolf and livestock populations. This was an experimental study, which
was appropriate for testing the hypothesis, because it tested the widely accepted, but
untested,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yearly, the researchers collected the following: the number of livestock depredated,
the livestock population, a wolf population estimate, the number of wolf breeding
pairs, and the number of wolves killed for each wolf occupied area in each of the
three states. All of this data was quantitative and based on numbers. This data was
based on the population of livestock and wolves for a tri state area each year for 25
years. The data was collected from a couple of different federal agencies. The
number of livestock (cattle and sheep) depredated, wolf population estimates, number
of wolf breeding pairs, and number of wolves killed in each state were obtained from
the United States Fish and Wildlife Services Interagency Annual Wolf Report on a
yearly basis. The United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural
Statistics Service provided the livestock populations for each
A Family Holiday Choral Concert
Frozen A Family Holiday Choral Concert By: Jackie Draper Today, Classical
music isn t considered to be the most popular genre of music, but as I seen at MJC s
Frozen A family Holiday Choral Concert , the audience really enjoyed the songs that
fell into this genre. Whether one realizes it or not, we hear classical musicmore than
we think. When one is on hold with their doctor s office, at an upper scale
department store, or even at a fancy restaurant, more than likely the type of music
being played is classical. The Classical music period originated in the mid 1700 s
and lasted until the mid 1800 s. A lot of people don t realize, but classical music is
still being composed today, but is much different than what it was hundreds of years
ago. Most of the texture in classical music has multiple parts that tend to move in the
same rhythm, which is homophonic. One can hear simple classic instruments, such
as: strings, woodwinds, percussion, and brass when listening to this genre. Some of
the well known forms of music today, such as: symphonies, sonatas, concertos and
orchestras all derived from classical music. Baroque musicwas the genre that came
out before Classical music. This genre of music has more of a tonal center. The
texture of the music was a lot different than that of classical music. Baroque music is
usually polyphonic, but at times is homophonic. In fact, the Baroque era is what
made music shift from polyphony to homophony. One

One is the adequacy of the research itself. In view of the extent of the research, and
the high proportion of negative п¬Ѓndings, this seems unlikely to be fruitful. I will
deal with it here cursorily. Another is the appropriateness of the research to the
nature of the theory. In this respect I argue that it is the sort of theory which is not
easily amenable to crucial test, as Wahba and Bridwell accept. This would usually be
seen as a shortcoming. I here argue that, on the contrary, it is one of the qualities
which gives the theory its power. The third ground is that the theory itself can be
refined. A series of modifications are later proposed. The remainder of the paper
works through a number of stages. The general nature of Maslow s hierarchy is
п¬Ѓrst examined. A the same time the adequacy of current research methods to test
it is assessed. Then follows a more detailed analysis of the theory. As a consequence
of this examination I propose a series of Maslow revis(it)ed Paper 02 5
modifications to the categories of needs, their relationship, and the underlying
rationale for the hierarchy. Finally, I review the agreement between the theory and
other general theories which address similar issues. The nature of Maslow s
hierarchy Before the research can be assessed or the theory reviewed it is necessary
that I clarify the very nature of the theory. Briefly, I argue that it is essentially a
taxonomy, with
Who Is The Protagonist Theoden
To break away from the traditional method of introducing a character through
descriptions of physical appearances and personal behaviour, the first impression of
protagonist Theoden is formed through associations linked to water and the colour
blue as these themes are commonly referred to throughout the tale. The blue, is both
applied to provide simple detail of colour to the setting, however it is more so to
convey the emotional state of sadness, which is what it connotes. Theoden clearly
suffers with grief, and the setting is almost used as a tool of contrast for the character
with his surroundings. The moon and its far distanced companions ( here is a use of
a metaphor, to depict the stars with a different interpretation, ) illuminate ... Show

There is yet again the mentioning of colour, in which the blue faded to black
during the scene. The effect of this simple detail is the first step towards the
sudden change of the event, into an uneasy situation that foreshadows the
oncoming complications. Even so, the singing evolving into a tone of sharper and
darker melody reflects the water s changing atmosphere. Amaryllis develops
relentless behaviour as she pierces, claws and scrapes over Theoden s shrinking
body , implicating he is vulnerable and powerless, which can create some tension as
the reader may experience concern as to whether or not he shall survive. Overall, the
singing and drastic change of Amaryllis from a beautiful and radiant being to an
utterly ruthless character, followed by the helplessness of Theoden parallels to the
Greek myths of Sirens and Sailors, which is the form of what my stimulus text was

Albus Dumbledore Wiesel s Twelfth Night
The unknown s what we fear when we look upon the darkness, nothing more a
quote by Albus Dumbledore reminds me of Harry Potter knowing that Voldemort
s out and about and completely unaware about the capabilities of Voldemort.
Voldemort s very dangerous and Harry knows that and gets frightened when he
learns more and more about Voldemort. Voldemort s unsuccessful on his rise to
power. Before Harry got taken to the Dursleys Voldemort killed his parents. Right
as Voldemort attempted to kill Harry the magic from his wand made a big

he arrived a dark hooded figure sucking the blood from a unicorn. The only people

to realize that Hogwarts in danger so he took it upon himself to save everyone by
trying to get the stone back from whom he thought Snape. When Harry finally got to

Communism And Its Impact On Society And The Production
Of...
Communism, the idea I will be looking at the theory of communism, which describes
an end to bourgeoisie (private) property, according to Marx. I will argue that it is not
a defensible utopia. I accept that we may not have had a true communist nation, but
this highlights the unrealistic nature of communist, rather than its inevitability as
Marx believed. Similarly I will argue the nature of communismas described by Marx
necessarily leads to centralised planning, as market relations are abolished, which can
have disastrous effects on society and the production of good and services.
Marxist Communism and utopian socialism The term communism is one fraught with
many ideas and beliefs. For some, it stands as a humane alternative to the capitalist
society in which we live, and to others it is associated with misery and tyrannical
governments. Malia (1994) argues that when socialism, sometimes considered a
precursor to communism or an interchangeable term with communism, does gain
power and inevitably fails, it is often denounced by other communists as the
deterioration into state socialism or, even more confusingly, state capitalism . This
makes it difficult to evaluate the ill effects of nations that are inspired by socialist or
communist ideas when analysing the notion of the communist utopia. Marx works
represent what is coined as scientific socialism, one that is distinct from the French
utopian socialists that influenced much of his work (Yassour 1983; Hoover
American Women In The 1970 s
I think it is important to take time and actually think about all of the advancements
women have made. If you think about it we would not have some of the things we
have today due to the women in past standing up for they believe in. There is a
quote that I cannot remember off the top of my head, but I know that it is along
the lines of saying a woman in general is powerful, but once she realizes how truly
powerful she is, you better watch out. Like Mary Richards, American women in the
1970s were figuring out how to use their new powers to craft a good life (Collins
241). This quote is amazing because there are so many women that do not see their
potential. Everything is just a matter of you can do anything you put your mind to
and it was not until the 1970 s that women were starting to come around to see what
they were truly capable of.
I wonder what it was like back then to be the epitome of a great athlete and still not
be taken seriously. Not only could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I sincerely mean that when I say I did not know. The fact that in 1974 Congress
passed a ban on sex discrimination is actually just surprising because I never
realized that women were discriminated this severely. Just by reading I was almost
felt as if I was being offended by Sylvia Peterson s client. To me it sounds like
people just did not have a filter. Her client said to her when she asked why she was
given the cold shoulder after buying a house, Well, you bought this house, her client
retorted. You can t buy a house without being married (Collins 251). How about we
stop jumping to conclusions? I have gotten a sense that this book is just full of
conclusion jumpers. For example, women are just automatically bad at sports and if
you did this then that means you did that. I think it is pretty sad actually that Sylvia
was not even able to buy herself a house without getting attacked, even after doing
nothing
Evangelical Movements
Since the beginning of the twenty first century the nature and authority of scripture
have been issues regarding the Christian Faith. Throughout this paper the nature and
authority of scripture will be surveyed in reference to three theological movements:
Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo Orthodox. All three theological movements will be
explored by examining the issues, implications, and analysis and application of the
Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo Orthodox movements.
The Issues
The evangelicalism movement dates to the eighteenth century and is the earliest
movement of the three movements. Evangelicalism originally took place in Britain
and the British colonies and is connected to Puritanism and Pietism. Those who are in
accordance with the beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe it is possible to be in a Christian community where the believers in it come
from one or a mix of any of the three movements. From being raised in a Christian
household, I have an understanding of the various views on the authority of
scripture. After doing further research and writing this paper I have a deeper
understanding of the authority and nature of scripture. I know the word of God is
not just based on the inspiration of God, but that it is God breathed and infallible.
Having knowledge of that fact can help me when sharing scripture and what I have
learned with the people out in the world. It is also important for us to not hold
scripture above God, but instead use it to lead people to God through the
scriptures. Reading about evangelicalism reminds me that we as children of God
have a duty to be missionaries in our communities to help evangelize the world.
God is counting on us to help grow his garden of souls. God is counting on us to
plant the seed in someone who does not know or believe. With the help of God
through the Holy Spirit the sharing of His Word should come easily and we must
always remember that all things are possible through Christ. I will take the
knowledge of the scripture I have gained and

Rape of the Lock by Alexander Pope Essay
Rape of the Lock by Alexander Pope
Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock is not studied and admired only because of
its style and form, but also for its base content and underlying themes. Pope s ability
to manipulate text into mock heroic form, constructing a flow of satirical description
is what makes this poem one of such quality.
The piece was first published in 1712 by the request of Pope s friend, John Caryll.
It was to make peace between the Fermors and Petres, two prominent Roman
Catholic families at the time. The feud was supposedly caused by an incident at a
card game that ended with Lord Petre cutting a lock from the hair of lovely Arabella
Fermor. Caryll had hoped that Pope wrote a poem that would sooth the tempers ...

Pope s over exaggeration of Belinda s preparation accomplishes his intended goal of
revealing how worthless he believes these duties to be.
It is also necessary to discuss the fact that Pope seems to realize that the extreme
vanity is caused by his own gender. If Belinda s preparations are not for her male
acquaintances, then why? Speaking through Clarissa, Pope allows the reader to take
a step away from satire with a taste of sensibility, How vain are the Glories, all our
Pains, / Unless good sense preserve what beauty gains.... (N. 1) Here the author
seems to be pushing for a lack of shallowness in the opposite sex.
Using The Rape of the Lock, Pope has criticized and attempted to explain the
problem he himself sees in society s view of women and women s view of
themselves. It is also apparent that he has attempted to understand the situation. Pope
reveals a hint of sensitivity within the maze of critical satire:
Nature to your undoing arms mankind With strength of body, artifice of mind; But
gives your feeble sex, made up of fears, No guard but virtue, no redress but tears. Yet
custom (Seldom to your favour gain d) Absolves the virgin when by force constrain
d....(N. 1)
Is the author searching for female readers to appreciate his sensitivity, or more
likely, looking for some realization from his male peers? The Rape of the Lock can
be, and has been, examined on
Brown And Levinson Theory Of Politeness
Brown and Levinson s politeness theory was designed to expound on the methods
used by speakers who wish to mitigate face threats realised by face threatening acts
toward the hearer. Two significant divisions of the theory involve the fundamental
explanation of politeness and politeness strategies that also function as the core
framework to the theory. The two linguists elaborately explained on the workings of
politeness as well as as how it functions in different social interactions.
Complementarily, the second aspect of the theory encompasses elaborate lists of
politeness strategies. Politeness in the broad sense of the word is defined through the
introduction of the term face . According to Kitamura (2000), she states that there are
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Brown and Levinson (1987), either the speaker or hearer s face can
be threatened and can have an impact on either positive face or negative face. In
this case, the trait of this politeness strategy does not adhere to the face wants of the
addressee or speaker. There are two leading subcategories under face threatening act,
positive face threatening act and negative face threatening act. The positive face
threatening act is the denotation of appreciation or acceptance for another s wants
or feelings that can thus, impose damage to their face. The act of transgressing or
causing the loss of control over a situation toward someone indicates their positive
face being threatened such as apologise, humiliation, and holding guilt or
responsibility. On the contrary, any freedom to act or avoid from imposition is
obscured when it involves the negative face threatening act. FTAs can pose as an
insult or violation to a speaker s face when his negative face is under threat. As an
illustration, such FTAs include making insincere obligations to a promise or offer
made, offering gratitude, and accepting the hearer s excuses. In conclusion, the
significance of the politeness theory requires the effort of investigating into the ideas
involving politeness. Moreover, it also seeks for individuals to build a deeper
understanding concerning
Analysis Of Katniss Everdeen In The Novel The Hunger
Games
In the book The Hunger Games, author Suzanne Collins illustrates Katniss
Everdeen as a courageous sixteen year old woman who faces obligations under her
own circumstances. Her heroic skills are clearly expressed throughout the story.
Katniss proves she is courageous, a survivor and a girl on fire , by facing life s
battles independently. Growing up in a hectic household meant Katniss had to act
as a mother figure to her younger sister, Primrose. The Everdeen family collapsed
once Katniss s father, whose name is not revealed in the text, died in a mine
explosion. Such a devastating tragedy truly impacted each family member. Katniss
s mother, whose name is not mentioned, was unable to tolerate her grief after her
husband s devastating loss. The intense amount of grief, she stored within her
heart and soul was blocking her from living life. Depression is known to make one
lethargic, but Katniss s mother was severely depressed to the point where she had
no intention of escaping her bed or desire of playing the role of a mother. Katniss
evolved to be the leader in her household, since her unproductive mother suffered
from mental illnesses. After all, someone had to support twelve year old Primrose.
Katniss was in charge of providing food on the table, although they had no cash
remaining. As a matter of fact, the city awarded the Everdeen household a tiny
amount of money after their father s tragic loss. Unfortunately, the minimal portion
of money vanished, so living in poverty meant taking risks. She demonstrated
upholding the duty of an adult once her father passed away, at the age of eleven. A
child should be working on homework and hanging out with friends. Under her
circumstance, her childhood lasted for practically a decade. Another time Katniss
stepped out from her comfort zone was when she encountered a harsh period of
starvation. Luckily, she encountered Peeta outside of the bakery where he
purposely tossed her a burnt loaf of nut and raisin bread. This kind gesture seriously
saved Katniss s life and her family s. The reason behind Peeta s act of kindness lies
deep within his heart since Katniss was his lifelong crush. Katniss owed him back
once the Reaping s began. Once the seventy fourth hunger

Hesiod s Theogony lines 139 163 The Theogony means the birth of gods in Hesiod
s Theogony it is meant to explain the origin of the Greek Gods. My focus reading
the Theogony is to analyze how each god or goddess came to be and which part
clearly depicts the true meaning of this Ancient poem. I am going to be focusing
more on the births of the hated and despised children and creatures born gods. In
this part of the Theogony it is set during the births of some of the god s children
Right after the most hated child Cronos was born came the three Cyclopes Brontes,
Steropes, and Arges the sons of Uranus and Gaia. These giants Cyclopes where

  • 2. The Shape Memory Effect And Super Elasticity INTRODUCTION The Shape Memory Alloys are quite fascinating materials characterised by a Shape Memory effect and Super elasticity, which ordinary metals and alloys do not have. This unique behaviour was first found in Au 47.5%Cd alloy in 1951, and was publicised by its discovery in a Ti Ni alloy in 1963. After much research and development thereafter, shape memory alloys are now being practically used as new functional alloys for pipe couplings, antennae for cellular phones and various actuators in electrical appliances, etc. Furthermore, they have attracted keen attention as promising candidate for smart materials since they function as sensors as well as actuators. The shape memory effect and super elasticity are based on the diffusion less transformation called martensitic transformation. The Shape memory effect is a unique property of certain alloys exhibiting martensitic transformations. Even though the alloy is deformed in low temperature phase, it recovers its original shape by reverse transformation upon heating to a critical temperature called reverse transformation temperature. Many other alloys such as In T1, 3, 4 Cu Zn and Cu Al Ni were also found. The same alloys have another unique property called Super elasticity at a higher temperature, which is associated with a large (18%) nonlinear recoverable strain upon loading and unloading. Since these alloys have a unique property in remembering the original shape, having an actuator function and having

The Black Hand And World War I The Black Hand and World War I Sophia Reider Ms. Beck Honors World Cultures Period 3 19 May 2017 On July 28th, 103 years ago, the war of the nations, the great war, or in other words, World War I began. To this day, it is still largely debated as to which event initiated the beginning of the war. John Rohl, emeritus professor of history at the University of Sussex, argues that World War Ibroke out as the result of a conspiracy between the governments of imperial Germany and Austria Hungary to bring about war. The purpose of bringing on the war was that the two countries believed it would be better to go down fighting rather than to continue tolerating the status quo. The countries also did so in opposition to Britain because of its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Turks called for parliamentary elections, and in result, doubt was placed in the status of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The two provinces had been under Ottoman sovereignty, but were administered by Austria Hungary since 1878. Serbiawanted to unite with Bosnia and Herzegovina to form a large Serbian kingdom. In opposition, Austria Hungary annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Balkans. Austria Hungary teased Russia with a trade off, which promised that if Russia accepted the annexation, Austria Hungary would open the Dardanelles to Russian warships. Instead, Austria Hungary proceeded with counteraction. The annexation left both Serbia and Russia outraged. Germany, too, demanded that the Russians accept the annexation, or Germany would declare war. In response, Russia increased comfort and aid to Serbia, and the two countries were determined to never again back down in the Balkans. Between 1912 and 1913, the Balkans fought two wars among themselves. These wars resulted in huge casualties; the Bulgarians lost around 65,000 men, the Greeks 9,500, the Montenegrins 3,000, and the Serbs at least 36,000. The wars caused the people in the Balkans to become angrier as tensions among the Great Powers continued to grow. The instability in the Balkans was initially attractive to the Great Powers because they wanted to gain influence. However, the

Technologyhas only deepened its grasp on consumers by becoming a necessity for conformity. The Visits from Inside the Black Mirrorwill interpret the consumers desire for social acceptance. The fact that Italy did not acquire the land which it had believed to be rightfully Italian however did play a small role in Italy s contribution to the Second World War, as it is reflected in Italy s foreign policy during the war. Italy s foreign policy was concentrated on improving their military power in order to reclaim land. Italy s military forces did not contribute much to the war, however Italy did manage to seize Albania in 1939 during WWII, proving their focus on territorial

The most important are the safety to the service s staff, public and the users of the generator. In order to evade the risk of electric shock, the users mentioned above should be informed of an operational generator (Small Scale Embedded Generator SSEG) through labels, so they can take their precautions. The main source supply and SSEG must be isolated prior to any electrical work installation/connection. The SSEG should not have its own earth if connected parallel to another source (British Standard, 2008). The recommended parallel connection with LV distribution systems for a type... The TT System of Earthing is not suitable where a TN C S system is available it s only used in old installation or rural parts of the country where overhead cable supplies are used. The associated earth fault loops with the TT System of Earthing is that the exposed conductive metalwork causes a fault current to flow through it to earth and return to the source via a general mass of earth (Figure 1). It is anticipated that the level of fault current will cause the RCD to trip or to blow the fuse in the time indicated in the ETCI rules. At 230 Volts its 5 seconds for fixed equipment, 0.4 seconds for portable equipment, socket outlets and 0.4 seconds for fixed equipment in bathrooms. The main disadvantage of the TT system connection of protecting against indirect contact is that the earth fault path resistance could easily allow a continual earth fault to exist which may well be lethal or causes fire. The TN C S system of earthing has the main earth terminal connected to the supply neutral and the earth electrode. When the load fault to earth occurs it turn into a fault to the incoming neutral and the fault route resistance is a lot lower than the TT system. A large current will flow which causes the RCD to trip within the specified time (Figure 2). f Question 2 It is required to comply with

Before I can begin this, however, I must first discuss the terms that will be used and their definitions. For the purposes of this essay an abortion is the destruction of a fetusat any point in development. A fetus constitutes a fertilized egg. At the moment the egg and sperm converge, the product is entitled a fetus. Prior to this course, my opinion on abortion was firm, but underdeveloped. I had a position that stated abortion to be immoral but acceptable in some cases. By this, I meant that it was always wrong, but could be understood in some cases, and thus, somehow, less of a wrongness. I see now the major issues with this argument and will use this essay to better clarify my position, and I will find myself aligning very closely with the views of Don Marquis, as portrayed by his article entitled An Argument that Abortion is Wrong. I will expound upon these views as they are shared by mine, but will also cite portions from writings by Judith Thomson and Mary Anne Warren. I find that my position was developed by using terms and ideas from these three authors, but I will also discuss how their writings and views conflict with mine. My position has been altered by new knowledge, and new incorporation of different circumstances. Prior to this class, I had an opinion that abortion was wrong, but it was okay if the mother was raped or if

Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky was one of the very first people who put forward the idea of using rockets for space missions, he was also the first person to design a rocket for interplanetary exploration and he accomplished this in 1903. German scientist Hermann Oberth continued to outline the principles of interplanetary flight in 1920, soon followed by an American scientist Robert Goddard who began to develop a liquid rocket engine in 1923 and by 1925 had created a working prototype. He set up the first liquid rocket, using gasoline and liquid oxygen as fuel in March of 1926. The works of Tsiolkovsky, Oberth and Goddard were then continued by rocketry enthusiast groups in the United States, the Soviet Union and Germany (Aerospace, 1994) In Germany, similar works were led by German Interplanetary Society (VFR), as part of the group, Johannes Winkler implemented Europe s first successful liquid rocket launch in March of 1931 and Wernher von Braunwho began the development of rocket engines for the German army artillery range in Kummersdorf in the winter of 1932. Activities that cause things like pollution, deforestation, global warming, and excessive water usage are some of the major causes of our environment s decline. All of these are caused by one activity: animal agriculture. According to the UN s report, the livestock industry is one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. Islam is a religion based on the interpretation and application of fundamental scriptures geared towards the need of a growing, modernizing religious community. The Qur an and the Prophet Mohammed s Sunnah and hadith serve as the main sources for attaining religious knowledge. Scholars of Islam, Ulema, delegated a mechanism in which they can gain knowledge after they have consulted the Quran and Sunnah through ijtihad and qiyas. The flexibility with which they can use reason, ijtihad, and analogies, qiyas, to answer questions of the time created doctrines that shed light onto the growing concerns within the Muslim community. This methodology has served to provide a path in which religious scholars can apply Islam to the changing dynamics of gender roles. The modernizing world provided the framework for female scholars to enter the field of religious study and interpret Islam on their own. Drawing on their reasoning and their ability to make analogies to stories within Islam helped women develop sound arguments within Islam that codified women s rights. Muslim feminist used the religion of Islam as the backbone of their movement by highlighting their rights and freedoms within Islamic scripture. What is truly remarkable about Othello is the almost prophetic nature it possesses, given how the work is centuries old. Its commentary on interracial love and sexuality, as professor Kiernan Ryan describes it, is more powerful now in the 21st century than it could ever have been at the dawn of the 17th. With Shakespeare s commentary on a topic of such importance to present times, it is of little surprise that Othellohas been modified into an adaptation more suited for a modern audience. Tim Blake Nelson s 2001 film O takes the tragic romance of Othello and moves it to the setting of a modern American prep school. The film, more or less, mirrors the core plot of Othello, however, the depiction of characters varies greatly between Othello and Iagoof Shakespeare s play and their counterparts, Odin and Hugo, of Nelson s film. The Odin of Nelson s film has his dark skin tone and outsider status depicted differently than Othello and he appears more aggressive and violent in the film as opposed to the play. Hugo on the other hand, almost matches Shakespeare s Iago point for point, but carves out a unique niche for himself in the clear motivations he has for his actions in the film, opposing their inherent ambiguity in the play. The changes made in the film certainly make it more relevant to a contemporary environment, but in doing so, it loses some of what

This is one of the first links to the past, a key theme in the performance, as the voice over is the voice of G H Hardy, the great mathematician reading from his own book. All a hangman does is basically inflict death for something that may have been a petty crime. This was a job back in times
  • 34. The Importance Of Environmental Justice In todays world, there are a fair share of groups with opposing viewpoints as well as mindsets, which often leads to conflict. Certainly the forestry world has had its fare share of people in power making decisions based on whats best for them finically or personally, and not what is best for the community and/or forest. Deep ecology includes a large majority of the same concepts in which they want to work towards the best interest of the forest and environment, and for the majority focus on the fact that humans are interfering with the forest to much as it is, and it needs to be changed (Naess, 264). Environmental justice focuses on how currently there is an elitist membership and narrow scope in the current conventional environmental practices and tries to work towards sustainability(Gottlieb 1993). When both of these collide they create what is knows as Wicked Problems , they go beyond scientific, economic, and techno rational analysis and methods of problem solving ( Nie 307). Hence is is difficult to know when said conflict has been solved, We use the term wicked in a meaning akin to that of malignant (in contrast to benign ) or vicious (like a circle) or tricky (like a leprechaun) or aggressive (like a lion, in contrast to the docility of a lamb) (Rittel and Webber 1973: p. 160) Recently there has been an increase in the amount of drivers in the modern environmental movement, some of which are resource scarcity, rise of outdoor recreation, changing

Executive summary This essay will mainly analyze and discuss some relevant legal principles and terms related to the judicial observation on legal position that the judge made in the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission v Yazaki Corporation case. Therefore, it is necessary to cover the following key issues: 1. Definition and explanations of separate legal entity doctrine and corporate groups. 2. When will a subsidiary company be recognized as an agent of its parent. 3. Under what circumstances can corporate veil be ignored or lifted. Introduction As mentioned in the prescribed text, the judge observes that there are cases where a parent company manages its subsidiary and also where a subsidiary company plays an agent role of its parent due to the parent s substantial control exercised. Queries may then occur as in what is the exact relationship between a parent company and its subsidiary, as well as what are the criteria that could determine that relationship. Before clearly explaining these questions, a brief introduction of the separate legal entity principal will be given, after which the importance of corporate group where parent and subsidiary companies lie in will be illustrated, followed by a thorough discussion of corporate veil. In the end, this essay will cover when to lift the corporate veil under both Common law and Corporation Acts 2001, mainly regarding some determining factors such as sham and fraud, as well as the contents in

Because it is looking at a causal relationship, it is an experimental design, rather than correlational. The independent variable we were studying was the sport type of participation. For this variable, the participants could be characterized as leanness focused sport athletes, nonleaness focused sport athletes, or non athletes. The dependent variable was the level of disordered eating, as determined by the EAT 26. The data would be analyzed using a one way ANOVA. If the result of this determined that there was a significant result, somewhere in the data, the next step would be to perform post hoc tests to see where the differences occur. An appropriate post hoc test would be Fisher s Least Significant Difference test. The desired result of this study would be that leanness focused sport athletes would have a significantly higher level of disorder eating than nonleanness focused sport athletes. Additionally, nonleaness focused sport athletes would have a significantly higher level of disordered eating than non athletes. This would allow us to look at the correlation between time participating and level of disordered eating. I would hypothesize that as individuals spend more time participating, they would have a higher level of disordered eating

Every new place that Genie discovered was a new world for her, this raised her curiosity and allowed her to want to engage and interact with her new environment. As we know, as infants we are born with almost all the neurons that we will have. In Genie s case, being strapped to a potter chair for most of her life caused her to lose many of those synaptic connections that she was not able to use. This process is referred to as pruning, which simply stated means use it or lose it, when theses connections are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The ability of the infant s brain to change in form and function is referred to as plasticity, this is important because although Genie was not taught as a child her brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new environment. Through this we encounter how Genie s brain was able to change throughout her new life and how the brain has this amazing ability that allows reorganization and the ability to form new connections. For Genie, these connections were able to form because she now had the chance to explore her environment, which is something she was unable to do her entire childhood. In the beginning of the film when Genie was discovered they examined her brain waves and found that Genie was expressed abnormal wave patterns. This is referred to as sleep spindles, which is an indication of retardation; this raised the question of whether or not Genie was impaired at birth or due to isolation. However, after working with her they found that she was in deed capable of forming new synaptic connections that allowed her to learn new words and supported the concept of brain

That meant I needed to maintain a margin in the negotiation around the price, and I decided to start with a price of $140,000, saying since I am not usually in charge of buying new restaurants, I am limited in the money I can spend. Just making propositions and trying to be flexible on additional things besides the price was not enough, because she thought she needed the money immediately. At least, it was not enough until the seller knew she had no better alternative outside the one I was able to offer. Also, I learned that although it may seem a lot better to maintain cordiality and an atmosphere of trust during the negotiation, at some point, when it is not going anywhere, it might be better to adopt a stronger position. Mainly, it had to be used to show the other party that even if an agreement is profitable for both parties, there is a point of no return, that it is time to really start looking for other solutions, more creative ones. After having established my position over the seller, making new propositions was a lot easier. Wolf Depredation The study Effects of Wolf Mortality on Livestock Depredation , focused on the influence of wolf mortality, controlled through sport hunting, on reducing livestock depredation in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming from 1987 to 2012. The study also served to test the claims that wolf breeding pairs are responsible for most of the livestock depredations that occur because these pairs are bound to den sites and not subject to natural/normal prey distribution; and that increased wolf mortality could result in a fracture in the normal pack structure, resulting in increased breeding pairs and higher livestock depredations. The goal was to prove support for the hypothesis that livestock depredations would decrease following an increase in lethal control of wolf populations. To test this hypothesis, a quantitative experiment was run, based on numbers of wolf and livestock populations. A Family Holiday Choral Concert Frozen A Family Holiday Choral Concert By: Jackie Draper Today, Classical music isn t considered to be the most popular genre of music, but as I seen at MJC s Frozen A family Holiday Choral Concert , the audience really enjoyed the songs that fell into this genre. Whether one realizes it or not, we hear classical musicmore than we think. When one is on hold with their doctor s office, at an upper scale department store, or even at a fancy restaurant, more than likely the type of music being played is classical. The Classical music period originated in the mid 1700 s and lasted until the mid 1800 s. A lot of people don t realize, but classical music is still being composed today, but is much different than what it was hundreds of years ago. Most of the texture in classical music has multiple parts that tend to move in the same rhythm, which is homophonic. One can hear simple classic instruments, such as: strings, woodwinds, percussion, and brass when listening to this genre. Some of the well known forms of music today, such as: symphonies, sonatas, concertos and orchestras all derived from classical music. Baroque musicwas the genre that came out before Classical music. This genre of music has more of a tonal center. The texture of the music was a lot different than that of classical music. Baroque music is usually polyphonic, but at times is homophonic. In fact, the Baroque era is what made music shift from polyphony to homophony. One

In this respect I argue that it is the sort of theory which is not easily amenable to crucial test, as Wahba and Bridwell accept. This would usually be seen as a shortcoming. I here argue that, on the contrary, it is one of the qualities which gives the theory its power. The third ground is that the theory itself can be refined. Communism, the idea I will be looking at the theory of communism, which describes an end to bourgeoisie (private) property, according to Marx. I will argue that it is not a defensible utopia. I accept that we may not have had a true communist nation, but this highlights the unrealistic nature of communist, rather than its inevitability as Marx believed. Similarly I will argue the nature of communismas described by Marx necessarily leads to centralised planning, as market relations are abolished, which can have disastrous effects on society and the production of good and services. Marxist Communism and utopian socialism The term communism is one fraught with many ideas and beliefs. For some, it stands as a humane alternative to the capitalist society in which we live, and to others it is associated with misery and tyrannical governments. Malia (1994) argues that when socialism, sometimes considered a precursor to communism or an interchangeable term with communism, does gain power and inevitably fails, it is often denounced by other communists as the deterioration into state socialism or, even more confusingly, state capitalism . This makes it difficult to evaluate the ill effects of nations that are inspired by socialist or communist ideas when analysing the notion of the communist utopia. Marx works represent what is coined as scientific socialism, one that is distinct from the French utopian socialists that influenced much of his work (Yassour 1983; Hoover

The piece was first published in 1712 by the request of Pope s friend, John Caryll. It was to make peace between the Fermors and Petres, two prominent Roman Catholic families at the time.
